t's always amused me as to when, how, and why they started so many musical awards! Being in the serious music world with super genious pianists of all ages, it amazes me that hundreds of the best (who are never heard), make the winners look like beginners. With mass media converting many who don't really know, it makes a difference over the last 10-15 years as to how they really got there. It was always being in the right place, at the correct time, which was great, but now, it's how much money someone is willing to put out there to make something out of nothing! Just a thought while I had a minute to think about it.Oscar Peterson, Art Tatum, Horowitz, Van Cliburn, Lang Lang, Herbie Hancock, then a few guitarists, Leo Kotke, Andres Segovia, Hendrix, Stevie Ray, Clapton, and on with no sound tracks or capos. I'm just so glad from the age of three, I was taught the right way and can understand helps in todays world! — feeling blessed.
oh of course not. Blues is the father of rock and Roll. I rank Gary high but he's not ahead of Stevie Ray, BB, Jimi, Or Buddy

Okay... I admit it... I'm a complete guitar techie nerd. My latest? Getting rid of the hum/buzz from my single coil Texas Specials... Yeah, I know... go buy some noiseless pickups for between $230 to $300 or more... With all the $ I gotta put out right now as a Dad/Granddad-business owner & a citizen of the new strapped economy, it just ain't gonna happen right now. But, people are noticing the noisy pickups, and my abilities to hide it when the band gets quiet just ain't fast enough to pull my pedals & volumes down. So... I got curious about these "dummy pickups" which it is said that Stevie Ray, Ritchie Blackmore, and others had in their Strats. I did my research and found that I had a leftover humbucker from a Schecter guitar that I replaced. I tore it apart & robbed the coils & got rid of the magnet. I found a way to stack them with a ground shield between them in my control cavity. So one handles my neck & bridge. The other takes care of the reverse wound middle pickup. I also found an ingenious way ...

Well the Ludington gig is over. We packed the trailers and headed home on Sunday. The event was successful in that the new equipment worked flawlessly. The new LED lighting washed the stage with ever changing colors and the new Mackie Thumpers pumped out thunderous, yet very clear and crisp sound. A great sound investment (pun?). We found that most every club in Ludington was light on attendance due to the awesome weather and the packed campgrounds. Also rumor of fireworks and outdoor parties kept many people from traveling to clubs. But we did a great job and had a great time. During our breaks, people had made their way to me to praise us for our sound, vocal harmonies, and our solid looks. Everyone in the band sings and a few of us were dressed like wannabe rock stars. Blasting Marshall amps to classics like Poison's "Nothing But A Good Time", Ozzy's "Crazy Train", Stevie Ray's "Pride and Joy", and dance music like Jimmy Eats World's "The Middle", Better Than Ezra's "Good", and other hits by the Romant ...

I have a Tim Krekel story. I usta go to concerts alone quite a bit, Delbert McClinton, Tommy Castro, Patty Griffin to name a few, and would walk downtown from my Butchertown home to the Kentucky Center or the Brown Theatre, Stevie Ray's etc. Well, I went to see Crosby & Nash one night in March or April at Whitney Hall several years ago and was walking home down Main Street after the concert, it was a clear, post rain night and the tall buildings and the downtown lights were awesomeness incarnate! As I passed Zena's (one of my fave bars) I heard a fantastic ribbon of music float out and fill those city canyons and I thought to hear the city singing its own song, Louisville's voice, Louisville's soul now. It was a totally magical tripped out moment to look up at that sky and those city lights and have my heart feel Tim's music as a universal song. I was drawn across the street to have a whiskey and a dance to TK and TKO and lifted my glass to Louisville, Steve Ferguson and all the other great musicians wh . ...
You might have seen her on Austin City Limits.well she's coming to West Point, MS...The Howlin' Wolf Memorial Blues Festival~ Friday Night Aug. 29th 2014. Oh its on! A musical force equipped with the soulful vocals of Janis and the guitar slinging skills of Stevie Ray, Carolyn Wonderland reaches into the depths of the Texas blues tradition with the wit of a poet. She hits the stage with unmatched presence, a true legend in her time. “She'd grown up the child of a singer in a band and began playing her mother's vintage Martin guitar when other girls were dressing dolls. She'd gone from being the teenage toast of her hometown Houston to sleeping in her van in Austin amid heaps of critical acclaim for fine recordings Alcohol & Salvation, Bloodless Revolution, and most recently, Miss Understood. Along with the guitar and the multitude of other instruments she learned to play – trumpet, accordion, piano, mandolin, lap steel – Wonderland's ability to whistle remains most unusual. Whistling is a uniquely v ...

I didn't appreciate it back then, but I sure do now. Austin is a great town.

2nd best part of the Triple H doc? The random appearances of Stevie Ray, Billy Kidman, and... Norman Smiley!
Artist Biography by Stephen Thomas Erlewine With his astonishingly accomplished guitar playing, Stevie Ray Vaughan ignited the blues revival of the '80s. Vaughan drew equally from bluesmen like Albert King, Otis Rush, and Muddy Waters and rock & roll players like Jimi Hendrix and Lonnie Mack, as well as the stray jazz guitarist like Kenny Burrell, developing a uniquely eclectic and fiery style that sounded like no other guitarist, regardless of genre. Vaughan bridged the gap between blues and rock like no other artist had since the late '60s. For the next seven years, Stevie Ray was the leading light in American blues, consistently selling out concerts while his albums regularly went gold. His tragic death in 1990 only emphasized his influence in blues and American rock & roll. Born and raised in Dallas, Vaughan began playing guitar as a child, inspired by older brother Jimmie. When he was in junior high school, he began playing in a number of garage bands, which occasionally landed gigs in local nightclu ...
It's 15 degrees outside this old drafty house and the heat pump can't keep up. I'm on the recliner with Emmitt Smith, Delroy Lindo and Stevie Ray. All three are shivering under our shared quilt. Patsy Cline will not even come out of her blanky to join us. She probably doesn't want to get under the quilt with those smelly boy dogs. This will not last long.
Whether its Stevie Ray about his Pride and Joy, Hank Williams about Dixie, or Waka Flocka about his gun sounds, passion creates good music.
Song of the Day January 22nd, 2014 | Pride And Joy by Stevie Ray Vaughan |

Stevie Ray and some Jimi calls for a good night
On Friday's Breakfast show we played Stevie Ray VaughnLittle Wing. On Monday morning we want to play a song suggested by you . The only stipulation is that it needs to be connected to Stevie Ray. It can be someone he’s collaborated with (and there’s been a few), someone who’s covered his songs or someone he's toured with. So, get your thinking caps on. The connection is entirely up to you. Just make it a good song so we can play it!
Rey Mysterio should've been in that storyline too. Where was Billy Kidman? Kanyon? Stevie Ray? Eddie Guerrero when he was with WCW?
I think Stevie Ray Vaughan said it best.
