Like is this Daniel Day-Lewis retirement like Steven Soderbergh's "retirement" from directing?
Daniel Day Lewis retiring just like Stephen King, and Steven Soderbergh and Tarantino, etc. etc.
Daniel Day Lewis has quit acting. Steven Soderbergh quit directing in 2013 and has made about 8 films a year since.
I assume Daniel Day Lewis is retiring the same way JAY-Z and Steven Soderbergh retired. Or maybe DDL really missed being a cobbler
I hope this is like Steven Soderbergh "retiring" from directing. But I'm worried it's deeper and permanent.

If you thought that director Farah Khan's Happy New Year will be just another big-budget time pass movie-watching experience, you've got it dead wrong. Here is the real story. For one, Farah in her efforts to create the perfect masala mix has borrowed liberally from each and every director right from Sanjay Bhansali to Prabhu Dheva. But her chief inspiration is Steven Soderbergh's Ocean's Trilogy, although Farah has insisted that "she has lifted but not in the Hitch-Partner sort of way." The director's other inspiration is the body of her previous work, Tees Maar Khan included. At the end of the trailer, SRK's character Charlie says, "Picture abhi baaki hai mere dost." That is an interesting hint, the fact being that Deepika Padukone who plays a dancer named Mohini (what an imaginative name) will also make a ghost appearance like she did in Om Shanti Om. The story of a heist, her character of a ghost will do all the stealing since the villain who owns the casino cannot see her: or, it. Farah is, in fact, ...

“Sex, lies and videotape, the debut feature from the 26-year-old writer-director Steven Soderbergh, wins the Palme d’Or at the Cannes Film Festival on this day in 1989. Born in Georgia on January 14, 1963, and raised in Baton Rouge, Louisiana, Soderbergh took university-level film courses and began making short films while still in high school. He got his first big break directing a full-length concert video for the band Yes, which earned him a Grammy nomination. He would expand his short film Winston, made in 1987, into sex, lies and videotape, which he reportedly wrote in a little more than a week. The film focused on the repressed Ann (Andie MacDowell) and her lawyer husband John (Peter Gallagher), who is having a steamy affair with Ann’s sister Cynthia (Laura San Giacomo). John’s old college friend Graham (James Spader) returns to town and reveals his penchant for videotaping women talking about their sexual experience, further complicating the situation when he becomes involved with Ann. "CANNES, France -- Nothing at this year's Cannes Film Festival has been awaited with such commingled dread and anticipation as the premiere of Steven Soderbergh's four-hour, two-headed Che Guevara biopic, screened here as a single competition entry even though Soderbergh has always intended it to become two different movies. And so it happened that on the first genuinely warm and sunny day since the festival opened, the press corps dragged its collective *** into the Théâtre Debussy at 6:30 on a lovely Mediterranean evening, and did not emerge until 11. We fortified ourselves with smuggled croissants and candy bars, with last-minute demitasses of espresso and bottles of water (but not too much of either, of course). And you know what? It was totally worth it. By the time we got to the 15-minute intermission and discovered that the festival had prepared sandwiches for us, served in brown paper bags emblazoned with the film's logo, it already felt like a special, only-in-Cannes event. Whether it's one mov ...

If you have a consistent style like Wong Kar-Wai then you're beating a dead horse. If you have an inconsistent style like Ang Lee then you're without a way. If you take your time between projects like Gaspar Noe then you're "not relevant." If you do a crap ton of films like Steven Soderbergh then you're "trying too hard." If you collaborate with the same people like Scorsese you're too timid. If you collaborate with a varied amount of people you're like Stanley Kubrick, you're erratic. If you use imagery like Terrence Malick then you're pretentious. If you use effects like Michael Bay then you're a corporate drone. I have begun to notice that film people just don't seem to be satisfied. Fascinating...

"The Arts provide a more comprehensive and insightful education because they invite students to explore the emotional, intuituve, and irrational aspects of life that science is hard pressed to explain." ~ Charles Fowler "The Arts are an essential part of public education. From dance and music to theatre and the visual arts, the Arts give children a unique means of expression, capturing their passions and emotions, and allowing them to explore new ideas, subject matter, and cultures. They bring us joy in every aspect of our lives. "Arts education not only enhances students' understanding of the world around them, but it also broadens their perspective on traditional academics. The Arts give us the creativity to express ourselves, while challenging our intellect. The Arts integrate life and learning for all students and are integral in the development of the whole person. "The Arts communicate and speak to us in ways that teach literacy and enhance our lives. We must continue to find a place for arts p ...
‘Blanco’ Gets Cinemax Pilot Order With Shiloh Fernandez Starring, Juan Carlos Fresnadillo Directing BY NELLIE ANDREEVA | Friday November 22, 2013 @ 1:31pm PST EXCLUSIVE: Cinemax has given a pilot greenlight to Blanco, a drama project which has cast Shiloh Fernandez (Evil Dead) as the lead. Feature director Juan Carlos Fresnadillo (28 Weeks Later) will direct the pilot, from Fox TV Studios and Lakeshore Entertainment. Blanco, which had been heating up at Cinemax since the summer, with the producers exploring casting and directing options, was written by Mark Rosner (Blue Bloods). It centers on Ruben (Fernandez), an uptown gangster — nicknamed Blanco for being a light-skinned Dominican — who uses his status as a confidential informant to turn the tables on law enforcement and build his criminal empire. Rosner and Lakeshore’s Gary Lucchesi and Tom Rosenberg are executive producing the pilot with Fresnadillo. Fernandez, repped by WME, Untitled Entertainment and Jackoway Tyerman, got his break on the ...
Find out what Steven Soderbergh has to say about an uninteresting, unfulfilling, & superficial life.
SOUL QUOTE "When you have no one in your life who you can call and say, 'I'm scared,' then your life is uninteresting, unfulfilling, superficial. You need somebody you can trust enough to say, 'I need help.'" - Steven Soderbergh

Creative Billboard Outdoor Advertising Most advertisements these days use advance technology and large screens. Never would you expect to see a billboard as repulsive as Lady Gaga’s Meat Dress. I mean, who would ever think of making an advertisement that would make people want to look away and vomit? The goal of any Billboard Advertising and marketing campaign should be the complete opposite, right? But that’s what Warner Bros. Pictures did. And hey! It worked! To promote the upcoming movie “Contagion” directed by Steven Soderbergh, Warner Bros. Pictures hired microbiologists and immunologists to create their super contagious, disgusting and one- of- a- kind billboard made of growing bacteria and placed it in an abandoned storefront window in Toronto. The scientist used live bacteria and allowed it to grow and spell out the name of the movie on the billboard. As expected, passersby were both revolted and amazed by their campaign but the good news was that they were given free passes to see Contagi ...
Steven Soderbergh is the Director of Magic Mike? Did he lose a bet?
1. I have an irrational distrust for those who, unilaterally and without any coercive circumstance or physical impediment, decide to become completely vegetarian. 2. I dislike the sight of red nail polish. 3. I once had a conversation with Steven Soderbergh about a large scale Cy Twombly canvas shortly after the artist's demise. 4. Random commuters often inquire about what I'm reading while riding the subway. 5. I don't enjoy the experience of getting a haircut. 6. Inadvertently I discovered Paul Thomas Anderson's "There Will Be Blood" on a matinee showing at a short distance from Lincoln Center. I watched the film twice that day, a few more times during the remainder of its theatrical release, and several ever since. It remains my favorite. 7. Jean-Paul Sartre was the most influential intellectual at an early age. 8. I can't recollect the last time I've slept for at least 8 hours. 9. Others frequently accuse me of having grotesque sense of humor. Often I derive laughter upon hearing tragic occurrences.

The Hunger Games: Catching Fire - continues the quality of the first film but with added tripod mounted cameras! The addition of teen heart-throbs like Philip Seymour Hoffman and Amanda Plummer was a bonus too. Sadly, not enough Toby Jones for my taste. Did you know Steven Soderbergh did second unit on the first film? Mental.

To Whom it May Concern: Please allow me to introduce my recently completed novel Nevolution— a futuristic detective/mystery story with a sci-fi punch. “Humanity has started to become extinct, only to resurface as something else...” The year is 2095. The fifteenth anniversary since the initiation of Project: Lazara Taxa, and its first successful human resurrection. Since that time, to fill the need for research into the long term effects of reanimation after death, government programs have made it financially advantageous for the common man to volunteer. As a result, thousands have applied. A new “species” of necrosapiens has been born. And now they are dying… permanently this time… at the hand of a serial killer. Detectives LINCOLN BLACKWOOD and CLARA ELLION are the lead detectives in a Necrocide Unit formed specifically to hunt down the killer. Their first victim has a bizarre wound, too small, too clean, and cauterized to be a gunshot. And then there is the ear tattoo… three small capita ...
A one-of-a-kind marketplace from Steven Soderbergh. - Extension 765
Well, I admit that I was a bit suspicious when I sat down to watch "Behind the Candelabra". I had obviously overlooked that it was a Steven Soderbergh film. Michael Douglas - pay close attention because this is something you would not hear easily from my lips - is pure genius. To portrait such a well-known personality (who was himself a caricature in his own right) and still avoid all the entrapments of playing him like one... it really requires talent, intelligence and sensitivity. It is definitely a mind-blowing performance. It is also particular brave in terms of physical exposure. I do not know that many actors (with sex-symbol status, as was Douglas case for many years) who would subject themselves to such risks. Along the way, the good surprises of almost unrecognizable Dan Ackroyd and, most specially, Debbie Reynolds. P.S.: Yes, Matt Damon is brilliant too.

I was given the ridiculously large number 12 by Gigi Calilan. 1. I am an extremely ordinary, unexceptional human, but I don't feel that way. 2. Steven Soderbergh makes a distinction between movies and cinema: movies you just watch, cinema is art - specific to the filmmaker.
Steven Soderbergh is that real rarity; a filmmaker who can manage a multi-million dollar George Clooney franchise, then turn around and make a movie for about $30 (give or take.) His ability to straddle the line between Hollywood and indie has put him in an enviable position, and this is a man who h...
There’s an accidental synchronicity between Spain Rodriguez’s graphic novel Che and Steven Soderbergh’s film Che—but the connection between Ben McCool and Mario Guevara’s graphic novel Nevsky and Sergei Eisenstein’s film Alexander Nevsky is wholly intentional. In fact, the 2012 book is an adaptation of the 1938 movie. A frame-to-panel celebration of a cinematic classic, Nevsky vividly pays homage not only to famed the 13th-century Russian freedom fighter, but to the filmmaker who, in his own way, fought for his homeland during a time of oppression.

Veteran TV director Michael Pressman got a surprising response when he asked students in his film directing class to describe their dream jobs. “Your job,” he said they told him recently. “We want to be the director in charge of a TV series.” Pressman, who has directed episodes of “Blue Bloods,” “Law & Order” and many other series, was stunned. This class, at New York's New School, focused on film. But the students weren't “dreaming of Oscar,” said Pressman, who has also directed several movies, including a “Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles” picture. “They want to make great TV series.” FALL TV 2013: Watch the trailers For decades, it was mostly a one-way journey.
