I'm assuming most of you at least read some comics. What are your favorite current comics? Mine are Wolverine & and the X-Men (or anything written by Jason Aaron), Jonathan Hickman's New Avengers and Avengers (and again his Image stuff like Manhattan Projects), Saga, Revival, Pretty Deadly, Captain America, Uncanny Avengers (Rick Remender's is fast becoming one of my favorite writers), Batman, Batman & Robin, Justice League Dark, Constantine and that's about it from DC. I also read a lot of horror comics from Avatar and Dark Horse comics like Crossed, Ferals, Extinction Parade (all are adults only!), anything B.P.R.D and Hellboy related, anything by Steve Niles. Garth Ennis is by far my favorite writer and I'll check out whatever he writes. As you can see, I read less superhero comics but I still enjoy a few and always check them out. What are some of your favorites? Surprised this question hasn't been brought up before.
Steve Niles pointed out recently that this was the season for lists, and that it could be a difficult time for creators. I can empathise. For the vast majority of my 27 years in comics I never made the grade. I'm not even in the top 1000 comic artists book published a few years ago - as has been pointed out to me by numerous 'friends' (you know who you are!) Now before we go any further, let me get this straight - I'm not sorry for myself, I'm not fishing for compliments (though I will ask you to vote for Cap Stone later!) and I don't need a pat on the back. I'm very happy with my career in retrospect, Eisner or no Eisner. I'm clear about what I have achieved, and I'm also delighted to say that of late I've actually made one or two of the titular seasonal lists myself, or via Madefire. I would be lying if I said that didn't delight me! But in general I have a balanced eye around it all. I am, however, curious about the evolution of these lists. So often, it seems, superstars are created by marketing. You ...
Author Returns To IDW To Unite A Monster And A Madman San Diego, CA (December 12, 2013) – Visionary author and celebrated comic creator Steve Niles is returning to IDW in 2014 and bringing the most nefarious fiends along with him. Debuting in March, Niles weaves together a grave team-up between Frankenstein’s monster and Jack the Ripper in the terrifying new series, Monster & Madman. A lost soul, Frankenstein’s monster seeks refuge from his waking life but finds no comfort in the bitter harshness of his surroundings. He sets out to free himself from his lonely isolation and during this journey he finds himself at the doorstop of a creature more sinister than he could have imagined, the madman, Jack The Ripper. “Niles reminds me of Ozzy Osbourne,” said Chris Ryall, IDW’s Chief Creative Officer/Editor-in-Chief, “In the same way that Ozzy was always finding great new guitarists to bring his macabre visions to life, so too is Niles always finding amazingly talented and ...
THE PULL BOX-10/30/13 by JoshF on 30-Oct-2013 It’s new comic book day and here are the notable issues your Superior comic book guy is reading. Sandman Overture my opinion, The Sandman is the greatest comic book series of all time, and it means a lot to a lot of people. So what happens when Neil Gaiman returns for a Sandman story after 16 years? He doesn’t miss a beat. This issue is fantastic and for a book that has been primarily story driven since it started, the art in this is what really sold it. Probably the prettiest book to come out in years. Highest of recommendations. And oh yeah, The Corinthian. Ash and the Army of Darkness the AoD series that have been published to this point(except for the awesome movie adaptation by John Bolton) have been godawful. This one isn’t. Steve Niles writes this issue and shows some respect for the source material, doesn’t play it strictly for laughs. This story picks up immediately after the movie and could have been called Army of Darkness 2. It ...

Lance's upcoming biography ,"Not Bad for a Human", will be published by my bud Steve Niles' Bloody Pulp Books. How cool is that?! Lance has been a part of the Hollywood and theater firmament for decades: What a career! Terminator, Aliens, Pumpkinhead, Millenium, Dead Man, to name but a few. It's written by Joseph Maddrey with lots of excerpts of Lance speaking. To paraphrase Steve: "Really cool stuff. No salacious stuff, just great stories about working in Hollywood. Very gritty and real." The book will be also be illustrated by fellow Lance Fans, Tim Bradstreet, Tom Mandrake, bro Bernie Wrightson, as well as by yrs trly. Speaking of which,i did a B&W portrait study of Lance for a promo tee-shirt ( what a truly great face to try and capture on canvas or paper) I'll be doing a new Image or three for the bio as well. It's such a cool project. And the title is perfection. I spoke with Lance last week. What a great guy. Incredibly warm and a true artist--really committed to his passion for acting. Fascin ...

30 Days of Night: Dark Days, is completely mediocre. Maybe it wouldn't be if I watched the whole thing, but I won't. If you have to recast two actors to make the film, you're doing something wrong. If you have a character named Lilith, you're doing something wrong. I appreciate Steve Niles working on the screenplay and maybe the comics are awesome, but I'm not willing to put money on that anymore. On a somewhat related note, any recommendations for movies with Josh Hartnett?
It was last year. Spent lots of money with them. Sat in on a cool demo with Steve Niles and Scott Morse.
