Gentleman's Wimbledon 2014 singles and doubles seeds as well as seeding formula used by Wimbledon. Djokovic Named Top Seed For Wimbledon, Defending Champion Murray Third Seed Wimbledon, England by ATP Staff Novak Djokovic , the 2011 titlist, has been named top seed for The Championships on Wednesday. Rafael Nadal , who clinched his 14th Grand Slam championship at Roland Garros two weeks ago and is currently No. 1 in the Emirates ATP Rankings, is No. 2 seed. Nadal's seeding was influenced by his first-round loss to Steve Darcis at Wimbledon last year and his opening-round exit to Dustin Brown at the Gerry Weber Open last week. Defending champion Andy Murray is third seed, while fourth seed Roger Federer is aiming to capture his eighth Wimbledon title. Stan Wawrinka, this year's Australian Open champion, has been named the No. 5 seed. It means that Wawrinka could meet Djokovic, Nadal or Murray in the quarter-finals. The singles draw ceremony takes place on Friday. The singles seeds reflect the Top 32 in the ...
On 90 seconds today, we look at Spain's Rafael Nadal replacing Serbia's Novak Djorkovic as the world's number one . Nadal confirmed he would return to pole position for the first time in over two years after he was handed a free pass to the Beijing final following a back injury to semi-final opponent Tomas Berdych. Berdych retired 4-2 down in the first set, after running for a backhand, to continue Nadal's unbeaten run since his shock first-round exit to 135th-ranked Steve Darcis at Wimbledon. How inspired are you by Rafael Nadal's determination to bounce back to world number one, and what have you learnt?
Marion Bartoli's near-perfect day ... LONDON -- The big, flat-out hitters -- Serena Williams, Victoria Azarenka and Maria Sharapova -- were already chilling at home when the women's semifinals unfurled Thursday. That they also were the top three seeds here at the All England Club says a lot about today's game. Big is almost always better, but this retro final four has something different: variety. It happened on the men's side, when Roger Federer and Rafael Nadal succumbed to crazed, net-crashing volleyers named Steve Darcis and Sergiy Stakhovsky. As Martina Navratilova wrote in her Thursday column in the Times of London, all four women's semifinalists could have played in the wooden racket era. Their average height -- about 5-foot-7 -- isn't all that far beyond the height of an average woman. They resist the urge to hit everything hard and harder; rather, they have a pleasing array of spins and speeds for any occasion. Even Sabine Lisicki, the most powerful of the group, unleashed a hail of drop shots in ...
It's been a massive weekend at Wimbledon with lots of upsets. In the men's draw, Rafa Nadal and Roger Federer have been knocked out of the tournament by relatively unknown players Steve Darcis and Sergiy Stakhovsky. Have you been watching Wimbledon? What has been your most memorable moment so far? Who do you think will win the competition in both the women's and men's draw? Lee wants to hear your thoughts.
For the first time in his career, Rafael Nadal crashed out of the first round of a Grand Slam event, losing to 135th-ranked Steve Darcis, 7-6, 7-6, 6-4.
Wacky Wednesday at WimbledonSlips, but Federer Takes the Biggest Fall By NAILA-JEAN MEYERS WIMBLEDON, England — The carnage began early Wednesday at Wimbledon. Fifteen minutes into the first match on Court 3, the top-seeded American man, No. 18 John Isner, retired from his match against Adrian Mannarino with a left knee injury. By lunch, women’s No. 2 Victoria Azarenka and Steve Darcis, who upset Rafael Nadal in the first round Monday, had withdrawn because of injuries. At tea, a knee injury had forced No. 6 seed Jo-Wilfried Tsonga to quit his match after three sets, and third-seeded Maria Sharapova and ninth-seeded Caroline Wozniacki had lost to qualifiers after slipping on court and requiring medical treatment. At dinner, after seven singles players had retired or withdrawn with injuries, the All England Club issued an extraordinary statement defending the state of its grass. And as the sun was setting to bring one of the strangest days in Wimbledon history to an end, the most unusual sight of all o ...
Meanwhile the Chicago Blackhawks scored two goals in the last minute Monday night to become Stanley Cup Champions in hockey. The Boston Bruins had a great season, but Chicago didn't want to leave Boston without the Cup or have a Game 7. And at Wimbledon how about all the upsets. First Rafael Nadal was beaten in the first round and then Steve Darcis of Belgium who beat him had a shoulder injury and had to withdraw from the tournament. And then Roger Federer, Maria Sharapova Victoria Azarenka and Lleyton Hewitt another former Wimbledon winner went down. So watch out Serena Williams and Novak Djokovic Maybe Andy Murray will be the first British man winner since the 1930s We'll see
Steve Darcis to Rafa - " Bhai clay court ke baahar ungli Nadal."
Wimbledon lost seven former No.1 players on Black Wednesday : Roger Federer, Maria Sharapova, Victoria Azarenka, Caroline Wozniacki, Ana Ivanovic, Jelena Jankovic and Lleyton Hewitt. That also includes players who suffered walkover and mid-match retirements: second-seeded Victoria Azarenka (walkover, right knee), men’s No. 6 Jo-Wilfried Tsonga (retirement, left knee), John Isner (retirement, left knee) and Steve Darcis (walkover, right shoulder), 10th-seeded Marin Cilic (walkover, left knee), 2006 quarterfinalist Radek Stepanek (retirement, left hamstring); and Yaroslava Shvedova (walkover, right arm). The International Tennis Federation said the seven players forced out is believed to be the most in one day at any Grand Slam event in the 45 years of the Open era.
Federer, Nadal & Sharapova defeated... What an upset in Wimbledon... Azarenka,Tsonga, Marin Cilic, John Isner, Stepanek and Day 1 star Steve Darcis will not be advancing any further at Wimbledon due to various ailments. So who will watch Wimbledon 2013?
Victoria Azarenka, John Isner and Steve Darcis were among the players who dropped out on Day 3 of the tournament.
WACKY WEDNESDAY AT WIMBLEDON It was a strange Wednesday at Wimbledon. The headlines of the day were the shock upsets of Roger Federer and Maria Sharapova. But in total seven former world no. 1 players failed to advance beyond the second round today, including Ana Ivanovic, Lleyton Hewitt, Caroline Wozniacki and Jelena Jankovic. Victoria Azarenka was the seventh no. 1 to depart, withdrawing from her match today due to an injury sustained in her previous match, as did Steve Darcis, the player who upset Rafa Nadal in the first round on Monday. John Isner injured his knee in his first service game and had to retire. Marin Cilic, Radek Stepanek, and Jo Wilfried Tsonga were also injured in their matches and retired. Yaroslava Shvedova also withdrew, bringing the total of withdrawals and retirements on one day to seven, a record for a single day in a Grand Slam. Hopefully all the players can make speedy recoveries and get back on the courts soon.
FedEx, Sharapova ,Hewitt out! Victoria Azarenka, Jo-Wilfried Tsonga, Radek Stepanek, Steve Darcis, Marin Cilic, John Isner and Yaroslava Shvedova retired hurt!!! What is happening? Looks like a Djoko-Andy final or is it the start of a new era?
SPEECHLESS. What a ruthless slaughter at Wimbledon - the likes of which I've never seen. 2nd round Federer is GONE. 36 straight quarterfinals in a row Grand Slam record from him GONE. Tsonga injured and GONE. Cilic injured and GONE. Isner injured and GONE. Benneteau GONE. The veteran Radek Stepanek injured and GONE. Lleyton Hewitt GONE. Steve Darcis (who just beat Nadal) GONE. On the women's side, Azarenka injured and GONE. Sharapova GONE. Wozniacki GONE. Ivanovic GONE. Jankovic GONE. Cirstea GONE. A historic record shattered. 11 seeds eliminated - 5 of them because of injuries. And the greatest player of all time has fallen in the 2nd round. Wow.
What the eff, Wimbledon. :| MaSha and RF out (wow upset!) Tsonga, Isner, Stepanek retire midmatch. Crazy injury scare from Caro. Walkovers c/o Vika, Steve Darcis (who just beat Rafa), Shvedova and Marin Cilic. WOW. Ang dugo lang ng 1st Wednesday of Wimbledon. CRAZY! Also, Ana beaten in straight sets by Eugenie Bouchard, wild lang din! Ang hirap lang iprocess. :| Then again, this is why tennis is *freaking* awesome.
In other news - Brazil are through to the final of the FIFA Confederations Cup with a 2-1 win over Uruguay in Belo Horizonte. Paulinho was the hero for the hosts, who scored a late winner after Uruguay's Edinson Cavani equalised Fred's opening goal. They now await the winner of Spain and Italy. And finally, not that Tennis gets too much of a run here, but it has been an absolute graveyard at Wimbeldon as Roger Federer, Jo-Wilfried Tsonga, Steve Darcis (Rafael Nadal's conqueror), Marin Cilic, Maria Sharapova and Victoria Azarenka are all out after they were defeated or withdrew from injury. Australia's Lleyton Hewitt was also a casualty, losing in four sets to German qualifier Dustin Brown. That's it for now, could be another fascinating day.
Roger Federer loses to Sergiy Stakhovsky at Wimbledon :-( :-( Wimbledon begins with massive upset Rafael Nadal Loses in Wimbledon 1st round to Steve Darcis !
Man who beat Nadal pulls out with shoulder injury 6/26/2013 6:59:00 AM LONDON (AP) - The player who stunned Rafael Nadal in the first round at Wimbledon, 135th-ranked Steve Darcis of Belgium, has withdrawn from the tournament because of an injured right shoulder. Darcis pulled out on Wednesday, hours before he was supposed to face Lukasz Kubot of Poland in the second round. It was a surprising development, given how well Darcis played while ending two-time Wimbledon champion Nadal's 22-match winning streak in straight sets on Monday. After that victory, by far the biggest of the 29-year-old Darcis' career, he said: ``I need to keep my focus. It would be a shame to beat Nadal, then stop there.'' Copyright 2013 Associated Press. 26th June 2013 at WIMBLEDON: What a tragic day it turned out for top players. Few bowed out of injury while others were knocked out by rookie players. Anna Ivanovic,Hewitt,Maria Sharapova, Bagdatis, Jo Wilfred Tsonga, Wawrinca, Victoria Azorenka, Cilic, Nadia Petrova, Jelina Jankovic, Sara Erani, John Isner, Steve Darcis, Caroline Wozniaki were knocked out surprisingly. But that was not all. The biggest upset came early at 2am...27th... THE 7 TIME WIMBLEBON CHAMPION Roger Federer was knocked out 6-7 7-6 6-4 7-6 by Stephenick :( :( Earlier Rafael Nadal also was defeated by Steve Darcis.
Victoria Azarenka, Steve Darcis, John Isner, Radek Stepanek, Marin Cilic, Yaroslava Shvedova, Jo-Wilfried Tsonga..had to pull out for injury
Unbelievable...two days after two-time champ Rafael Nadal was monumentally upset by Steve Darcis (who?) in the first round of Wimbledon, seven-time champion Roger Federer was just eliminated by unknown Sergiy Stakhovsky in Round 2. Tons of upsets (Sharapova as well), withdrawals and retirements today...Looks like a Murray-Djokovic final for sure, but one never knows.
mightn't be any tennis left for you!. Tsonga 7th withdrawal today after Victoria Azarenka, Steve Darcis etc...
Jo-Wilfried Tsonga pulls out of Wimbledon along with Victoria Azarenka, Steve Darcis, John Isner, Marin Cilic and...
unbelievable. just. firstly he crashes out in the 1st round. and every good player seems to join the growing list of casualties following it. my favourite Victoria Azarenka, Maria Sharapova, Ana Ivanovic out of the event. Caroline Wozniacki, Jo Wilfried Tsonga, Marin Cilic, Steve Darcis every freaking person is pulling out. is the world seriously coming to an end? god save Wimbledon.
Wimbledon 2013-full of upsets and injuries :p Rafael Nadal,Victoria Azarenka,Jo Wilfried Tsonga,Maria Sharapova.all are out! Nd yea Steve Darcis too :p Isn't it strange?
After twisting her knee in her First Round Match, Belarusian Victoria Azarenka withdrew from the Championships today. She was joined by three more players including Steve Darcis, the player who ousted Rafael Nadal.
Day 3 at Wimbledon has had Jo Wilfried, Radek Stepanek & John Isner retired & Victoria Azarenka giving walkover. Lleyton has lost to Dustin Brown. Caroline Wozniacki & Ana Ivanovic gone too. Maria Sharapova looking to be upset by unseeded portuguese player. Rafa's conqueror Steve Darcis has also given a walkover to his 2nd round opponent.
What a weird day in Wimbledon: Victoria Azarenka, Marin Cilic, Steve Darcis and Yaroslava Shvedova withdrew today. Jo-Wilfried Tsonga, John Isner and Radek Stepanek retired with injuries.
Seven withdraws or retirements today at Wimbledon including Victoria Azarenka, Jo-Wilfried Tsonga and Steve Darcis (the guy who beat Nadal). Sharapova complaining about the dangerous Court 2. Things clearing up nicely for my girl JJ to storm the finals!!
Day three at Wimbledon began in bizarre fashion as four big names, including Rafael Nadal's conqueror Steve Darcis and the women's second seed Victoria Azarenka, were all forced to pull out due to injury.
Flippin'eck - this Wimbledon is getting more and more ridiculous, Steve Darcis has pulled out due to injury.
More retirements marks this year's Wimbledon Championship. . . to join the list are John Isnaer (USA), Radek Stepanek (Czech) Steve Darcis (Belgian couqueror of Nadal), Marian Cilic (Croatia), Victoria Azarenka (Belarus). All this players retiring just on the same day (3rd day)... i think more time should be given for the players to move from the Clay to Grass season. Drop your view
8 days left and I feel bad for Victoria Azarenka, John Isner, Radek Stepanek, Steve Darcis and Marin Cilic who all got injured today at Wimbledon. Caroline Wozniacki could be next.
Crazy things going on at Wimbledon today. A flurry of players retiring from matches because of injuries: John Isner, Steve Darcis (who upset Nadal), Marin Cilic, Radek Stepanek, and the woman in the world Victoria Azarenka! Five players retiring today because of either elbow or knee injuries.
Steve Darcis, John Isner, Victoria Azarenka..and now Radek Stepanek.. 4 withdrawals in the space of an hour..that's after Philipp Kohlschreiber quits in the 5th set..Rafael Nadal bows out due to a bad knee..mardy fish and venus williams pulling out before the tournament began.. a bit chaotic out there it seems
Nadal puts the gentleman in gentlemen's singles LONDON (Reuters) - For Rafael Nadal dignity in defeat is a deeply held belief and, along with his arch rivals, the Spaniard has put the gentleman back into the gentlemen's singles at Wimbledon. Compare that with the catfight that broke out between Serena Williams and Maria Sharapova in the lead-up to the world's most famous tennis tournament. Nadal, who tumbled out of the championships in a straight sets defeat by Belgian journeyman Steve Darcis on the opening day, declined to blame his wounded knee despite persistent questioning at the post-match news conference. He doesn't do excuses. The Spaniard, like Roger Federer, Andy Murray and Novak Djokovic, is a great believer in mutual respect. The leading quartet on the men's circuit do not indulge in slanging matches. That prompted Latvian player Ernests Gulbis to complain in an interview with French newspaper L'Equipe last month that: "Tennis today badly lacks characters... all four of them are boring players. ...
Novak Djokovic proved shock-proof as a sense of order was restored on Tuesday after the tremors that rumbled around Wimbledon on opening night following Rafa Nadal's defeat. A day that began with Belgium's Steve Darcis waking up as the sport's latest giant-slayer after his shock first round defeat of 12-times major champion Nadal on Monday, continued in far less dramatic fashion at the All England club. Djokovic outmanoeuvred Mayer, a player just outside the top 32 seeds and who he faced in the quarterfinals last year, for a 6-3 7-5 6-4 victory. Nadal's fourth-seeded compatriot David Ferrer, who he beat to win an eighth French Open, completed a far-from-memorable Centre Court programme with a 6-1 4-6 7-5 6-2 win against Argentina's Martin Alund despite several tumbles. Other men's seeds also flourished with Czech 2010 runner-up Tomas Berdych, Argentine 2009 US Open champion Juan Martin del Potro, Germany's Tommy Haas and talented Bulgarian Grigor Dimitrov all enjoying straight sets wins. Djokovic had not ...
Who is this Darcis guy? By ALAN FRASER London - Name a famous Belgian, they always say. Well, Steve Darcis can join the likes of Hercule Poirot, Eddy Merckx and Audrey Hepburn for today at least, though probably not long thereafter. The predetermined fate of the shock maker is to be here today and gone tomorrow. It is a measure of the tennis obscurity from which the Anderlecht supporter from Liege emerged that the BBC did not know whether to sound the ‘s’ at the end of his surname or use the pronunciation preferred by Jane Austen in Pride and Prejudice. The ATP handbook suggests the latter. Nor did many seem to appreciate in advance of this stunning result that Mr Darcis had already created an upset on these very courts, on Centre Court no less. He had played in the first match on the hallowed turf at the London Olympics and even managed a victory over No 6 seed Tomas Berdych, an achievement that went pretty much unreported in these parts. Even with the nickname “Shark” you are not going to make w ...

Wimbledon shocker: Rafael Nadal loses to Steve Darcis of Belgium
Tennis - Wimbledon Where does latest crushing defeat leave Rafael Nadal? Was he fit enough to take to Centre Court in his Wimbledon opener? Should he have warmed up for the All England Club at another grass tournament? Why didn't he? Whose decision was it to jump straight into action in SW19 following the conclusion of the clay-court season? What are the implications of this latest set-back for his future on grass? Twice champion Rafael Nadal's stunning straight-set defeat to unheralded Steve Darcis on the first day of the 2013 Wimbledon Championships raised as many questions in the immediate aftermath of the match as it did eyebrows during it. At the same time, those eyebrows were sent soaring skywards, jaws on Centre Court dropped in the opposite direction as Nadal was bumped out of Wimbledon early for the second time in two years, following his equally shocking defeat at the hands of Lukas Rosol 12 months ago. How could this happen? Surely not even the most fervent Rafa sceptic could have seen this one ...

This is shocking - this is unreal - this is sensational - this is mindblowing - Nadal gets blown away off Centre Court and Wimbledon by dangerous Belgian journeyman Steve Darcis,in one of the greatest shock upsets in Wimbledon History ; we thought Nadal's 2nd Round exit last year to Rosol was monumental..this takes it up a few notches, and HOW..! And to think - Rafa was the pre-tournament favourite in the minds of many influential and respected Tennis journalists and authorities, including Tennis.com's Steve Tignor..he predicted Rafa would go on to beat Nole in the Final...well,take that..!
That's sport- Rafa Nadal falls in the first round at Wimbledon-- All credit to Steve Darcis but even a tennis enthusiast who does not like Rafa would agree that a fit Nadal would never lose in straight sets to the Belgian even on grass- Well it was probably too much for Nadal playing on one leg to adjust to the low bounce - It was really sad to see him run around so much to avoid putting pressure on his left knee and not hit backhands. The most talked about knees in the world has finally given way temporarily but hopefully Rafa should return back stronger and fitter soon...

LONDON Five things to watch at Wimbledon on Monday, Day 1 of the grass-court Grand Slam tennis tournament: 1. Seven-time Wimbledon champion Roger Federer, who won the 2012 title, is up against Romania's Victor Hanescu in the first match of the year on Centre Court. Andy Murray, last year's runner-up, renews his bid to give Britain its first male champion in 77 years by taking on Germany's Benjamin Becker (best known, if at all, for beating Andre Agassi in the American's last professional match, at the 2006 U.S. Open). And Rafael Nadal, twice the champion at Wimbledon, plays his first match at the All England Club since last year's surprising second-round loss, facing Belgium's Steve Darcis. The No. 2-seeded Murray, No. 3 Federer and No. 5 Nadal all wound up on the same half of the draw, which is why they all start on the same day, prompting this wisecrack from No. 1 ...

Okay. So World War Z has been on for less than an hour and I've had to leave the theater 3 times. These scary zombie movies are not for me. Walking Dead is like Sesame Street, comparatively speaking. It must be how big the screen is and how loud and fast it all seems.

Sometimes we need to give ourselves permission to grow, even though the people we love are not ready to change. We may even need to leave people behind in their dysfunction or suffering because we cannot recover for them. We don't need to suffer with them. It doesn't help. It doesn't help us to stay stuck just because someone we love is stuck. The potential for helping others is far greater when we detach, work on ourselves, and stop trying to force others to change with us.
