Newcastle United striker Shola Ameobi has admitted that he could leave at the end of the season. The 32-year-old's current contract with the Premier League club runs out in the summer, and there are no signs that he will be given a new deal. The Nigeria international has been at Newcastle his entire professional career and concedes that departing St James' Park will be hard for him. "After the summer, my future is unclear," he told the Shields Gazette. "Basically, I'll do what I've always done. Like I've always said, I've never taken it (playing for Newcastle) for granted. Every time I step on that pitch, I relish it. "When it does finally end, it'll be a sad moment, but at the moment my focus is trying to help this club. "That's what I've always tried to do, and that will never change." Ameobi's last Magpies start came in the 3-0 home defeat by rivals Sunderland on February 1, and his younger brother Sammy has been selected ahead of him in their last two defeats by Chelsea and Tottenham. Aluko Keeps World Cup Quest Hull City of England attacker, Omatsone ‘Sone’ Aluko says he is ready to keep working hard in order to gain a call-up to the Super Eagles squad for this year’s World Cup, despite missing out on the list of invitees for next month’s friendly against Mexico. Aluko admits he has not been in the Eagles’ picture for a long while but, after getting back into action with The Tigers after a spell out with injury, the former Aberdeen of Scotland and Birmingham City of England star says he will continue to fight for a place in Nigeria's World Cup squad until the final game of the season. After playing all 90 minutes on Monday evening’s FA Cup game against Brighton & Hove Albion, the Flying Eagles winger to Egypt 2009 FIFA U-20 World Cup declared that he is out to impress Eagles head coach, Stephen Keshi. The 25-year-old, whose sister, Eniola, plays for England’s female national team, has a single goal in the English Premier League this season, against Newcastle United in Se ...
The Super Eagles will feature seven new faces in the starting XI against the Azzurri in London on Monday evening Nigeria coach Stephen Keshi has opted for a changed line up against Italy in Monday evening’s international friendly at Fulham’s Craven Cottage. The match will see seven players who were on the bench in Saturday’s World Cup qualifier against Ethiopia start tonight’s match. They will play alongside Liverpool’s Victor Moses in a three-pronged attack. The lone midfield change is Brescia’s Nnamdi Oduamadi who will pair up with Chelsea’s John Obi Mikel and Lazio’s Ogenyi Onazi. In defence where Keshi made three changes, Rizespor’s Godfrey Oboabona (who keeps his place from the game against Ethiopia) will be joined by Nigeria Premier League-based trio of Azubuike Egwuekwe of Warri Wolves, Solomon Kwambe of Sunshine Stars and Benjamin Fra ...
Keshi Explains Ameobi Decision Super Eagles head coach, Stephen Keshi has thrown more light on his decision to keep Newcastle United striker, Shola Ameobi in the picture for an appearance against Ethiopia in next weekend’s World Cup final play-off qualifier, despite repeated reports n the media indicating that the player is injured. Rather than give up on the chances of Ameobi not being fit enough to star against the Walya Antelopes in Addis Ababa come October 13, The Big Boss insists it is wrong to rule the Kabba, Kogi State-born veteran out without any proper medical checks to ascertain his level of fitness. To this end, Keshi is sticking with Ameobi for the crunch encounter in Addis Ababa and insists that The Magpies’ striker will be fit for the Brazil 2014 play-off first leg against The Antelopes. Ameobi has been sidelined by a knock picked up while on international duty last month and Newcastle said he would be out for three weeks, after which he was then certified to be suffering from flu. No punishment for Ameobi The Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) will not take action against Shola Ameobi following his failure to honour his invitation to represent the West African nation at the 2013 Africa Cup of Nations in South Africa. The forward was called up by head coach of the Nigerian national team, Stephen Keshi alongside 31 others but he failed to turn up or give any reason for his decision. The 31-year-old striker made his senior international debut against Venezuela two months ago and was set to be included in a 23-man Super Eagles squad for the Cup of Nations between January 19 and February 10. But once Ameobi was chosen in a provisional Nigerian squad, the Newcastle United manager, Alan Pardew said the player would not be going to South Africa for the tournament without giving a reason. Although it emerged that a clause in the contract of Ameobi allowed the English Premier League club to retain his services during the tournament, Eagles coach, Keshi did not drop him from the squad until la ...

NFF dismisses claim Ameobi not for Nations Cup. Nigeria have debunked a claim by Newcastle that Shola Ameobi will skip next month’s African Nations Cup and that coach Stephen Keshi is aware of this. “We are not aware of such a thing about Shola (Ameobi), he is a FIFA-listed player for us. The federation is not aware, the head coach is not aware of this and that was why Shola was called up for the competition,” spokesman for the Nigeria Football Federation, Ademola Olajire, told MTNFootball.com. “We will do all within us to see that Shola or any player picked by the coach for the Nations Cup is released to us.” Newcastle United manager Alan Pardew said Shola Ameobi will not be going to the Nations Cup with Nigeria, according to BBC sports. The Kogi State indigene is on the 32-man provisional squad released by Eagles coach Stephen Keshi last week. Pardew said, “Shola won’t be going.
