Samson Siasia, Stephen Keshi and now Sunday Oliseh all cant be lying about Mikel Obi's attitude of disdain concerning Super Eagles
Stephen Keshi said Mikel Obi didn't answer his calls. Sunday Oliseh is saying the same thing. Hm.
Stephen Keshi has dropped Mikel Obi and Emenike from his list of 15 foreign-based players for the 2017 ACN qualifying match against Chad.
SAME OLD GANG Keshi swings into action, invites Ike Uche, 24 others for Congo, South Africa matches Coach Stephen Keshi has called up 25 players for the must-win 2015 Cup of Nations qualifying matches against the Red Devils of Congo and Bafana Bafana of South Africa. Much –respected, Spain –based striker Ikechukwu Uche is called for the first time in nearly two years, and there is also a first senior team opportunity for Nasarawa United midfielder Tony Edjomari. Home –based defender Solomon Kwambe also return, and Aaron Samuel (who got one of the goals against Sudan), Hope Akpan, Sunday Emmanuel and home –boy Emem Eduok have further chances after being called for the matches against the Falcons of Sudan. I was down and weak after watching Stephen Keshi's Eagles defeated by divided Sudan who has being in a serious war for many years. Before last night meeting,we've met complete Sundan 13th times, the result is there for you to see by yourself. In those meetings when there was nothing like Southern Sudan we delt with them in the way it supose to be but yesterday's meeting was a big disgrace & dent on the image of this great country Nigeria. From every indication we can see that whatever seed you sow you must reap it wether you like it or not. The seed of mafia which Keshi sowed as a player is now yieding fruits for him to harvest. Mikel Obi mafia group is now a source of worry to big Boss but he is ashame to complain because he is eating from the scrubs from king's table. For Mikel to refused to board plane suported by Emenike that the seat is not comfortable is a minus to them as regard to patrotism and selfless service to national asignment to salvalge the image of the country battered by small Congo in o ...
Mikel opposed Azeez’s introduction –NFF official Mikel Obi kicked against the introduction of Ramon Azeez in place of the injured Ogenyi Onazi during the round of 16 match against France, a top team official has told . Almeria midfielder, Azeez, was preparing to come in for the injured Onazi, when within moments coach Stephen Keshi asked Reuben Gabriel to come in instead for the Lazio youngster. “Mikel made it very clear to Keshi that he did not wish for Ramon to play alongside him in the midfield and that was why Azeez was asked to sit down and in his place Reuben was brought in,” a top team official informed. The player power Mikel wielded in the Super Eagles was such that coach Keshi asked the midfielder if he wanted to be replaced during the Bosnia-Herzegovina match after he appeared to tire. “Should it be the player or the coach who should effect a substitution?” asked a baffled top official.
For me, Vincent Enyeama was the Man of The Match, Ahmed Musa showed great and fantastic improvement in his performance, Osaze Odemwingie played to instruction and as such, he was kind of passive in the game, while Mikel Obi was not in the game at all! Stephen Keshi still needs to get his tactics right; the defence needs to be tighter, and the attack needs more flexibility and versatility. Overall, it was a decent game!
Nigeria VS Bosnia&Eggovin -Peter Odemwingie's opener was Nigeria's 18th WC goal. -Nigeria is now the African team with the most WC goals (Cameroon on 17) -Nigeria is the 1st African team to qualify for the 2nd round (okay so u think Iran would beat Bosnia by 2 goals, even if Argentina beat 9ja 2-0 too)? -Nigeria is currently FIFA's fair team winning team, having just received ONLY one yellow card so far (Mourinho's styled & taught hacker; Mikel Obi) -This is Nigeria's 1st win in the World Cup in 18years (since France 1998 against Bulgaria) -Nigeria is the first African team to play 2 games in a World Cup and NOT concede a goal -Nigeria and Mexico are the ONLY two teams not to have conceded a goal so far -Stephen Keshi is the First & ONLY Nigerian coach to win a game in a World Cup -Nigerians Victor Enyeama has the BEST goalkeeping record in the best & top 5 leagues in Europe, having 21 clean sheets, now he's added 2 more in the World Cup -Nigeria is the ONLY team amongst old WC teams in Brazil to birth a ...
"BREAKING NEWS! The Super Eagles of Nigeria have said that they will not score any goal in the ongoing Fifa World Cup for SECURITY REASONS. According to the Head Coach Stephen Keshi, even if the Super Eagles are awarded a penalty, they would deliberately play it over the bar to save the lives of Nigerians. Asked why? Stephen Keshi said that BOKO HARAM has released a statement saying for each goal scored by the Super Eagles, BOKO HARAM will celebrate with a bomb blast that will kill at least a victim. Speaking to journalists in Brazil, Mikel Obi who is the all-time highest goal scorer of Chelsea Football" Club said: 'I planned to score at least twenty goals in this World Cup. But I get papa and mama for Nigeria. Because of this BOKO HARAM issue, there is nothing I can do'.
l blame the Head Coach, Stephen Keshi for the pool performances in today's match against Iran, he lacks the technical no how, he doesn't read match to know who to bring in and who to remove, he's choice of replacement is bad, removing Victor Moses who seems to threaterned the Iranian defence for Shola Ameobi was a wrong decision instead of Ahmed Musa...Mikel Obi played selfishly, he shuld raise his game, he shuld be releasing the ball in time than waiting for an opponent to come first...the starting line-up was okey but Keshi still need a lots of work to do...the team lacks pace, positioning and creativity. there is no difference from what the played in their friendly matches. there is no improvment or whatsover.. Keshi and Mikel Obi are our great disappointment in today's match..the likes of Victor Moses, Osaze and Shola Ameobi would have made difference and given us the needed goals...we need a tactician
The media has been awash with news of the rift between the Super Eagles most potent striker, Emmanuel Emenike and Mikel Obi after the Nigeria versus Greece friendly, but thankfully, this said rift has been settled by the team's chief coach, Stephen Keshi before departing for the World Cup tourney in Brazil.
John Mikel Obi, Victor Moses and Kenneth Omeruo are selected by their National Team coach Stephen Keshi.
After hours of waiting on Monday, Stephen Keshi released the final World Cup list at midnight. And as the drama and suspense that preceded the release, the list also came with some surprises. Joseph Yobo will play in his third Fifa World Cup finals and have opportunity to become Nigeria’s first-ever century — international after he was named in the African champions’ final list of 23 for Brazil 2014 but African Nations Championship Most Valuable Player, Ejike Uzoenyi and AFCON winner, Sunday Mba failed to make the final cut. Gabriel Rueben and Babatunde Michael made the list. Also going to their third World Cup are goalkeepers Vincent Enyeama and Austin Ejide, but midfield strongman Mikel Obi will only be attending his first finals after Nigeria narrowly missed Germany 2006 and he was omitted from South Africa 2010 due to injury. Former junior international defender Elderson Echiejile and Olympic silver medallist Osaze Odemwingie, who were also in South Africa four years ago, make the cut for the bi ...
For Nigeria to do well at the World Cup,Coach Stephen Keshi should drop these seven players: Vincent Enyeama,Kenneth Omeruho,Godfrey Oboabona,Mikel Obi,Ogenyi Onazi,Emmanuel Emenike and Osaze Odemwingie.
NIGERIA'S Super Eagles kicked off their 2014 World Cup preparations yesterday with a 2-2 draw against Scotland in London in a game that offered Head Coach Stephen Keshi the opportunity to look at several fringe players. Playing in front of a near capacity crowd of about 20,156, the Eagles scored a last minute equaliser through Uche Nwofor to clinch a draw. Today, the team flies to the US where it will play two more friendlies against Greece and Team USA on June 3 and 7 respectively before heading to Brazil where it will face Algeria in its last warm-up game on June 11. For yesterday's game, coach Keshi did not even name seven regulars on the team list, indicating that their places on the plane to Brazil are already secure. Mikel Obi, Emmanuel Emenike, Vincent Enyeama, Obinna Nsofor, Ogenyi Onazi, Kenneth Omeruo and Ahmed Musa were not named on the team sheet and appear certain to be among the final 23. Returnee skipper Joseph Yobo skippered the team, showing glimpses of his old self, as did Osaze Odemwing ...
Nigeria coach Stephen Keshi has named 30 players in his provisional squad for next month's World Cup. The reigning African champions will be making their fifth appearance at world football's major showpiece and have been drawn in the same group with Argentina, Iran and Bosnia. Usual suspects Vincent Enyeama, Mikel Obi, Efe Ambrose, Godfrey Oboabona, Ahmed Musa and Victor Moses have been included, as well as dark horses Ramon Azeez, Michael Babatunde and Azubuike Egwuekwe while midfield ace Joel Obi and Peter Odemwingie return after several months in the international wilderness. Top scorer of the 29th Africa Cup of Nations, Emmanuel Emenike, back from injury, returns to the fold. However, injured Nosa Igiebor and Reuben Gabriel are the surprise inclusion in the squad while the Keshi snubbed Ikechukwu Uche, Dynamo Kiev's Brown Ideye, Hull City’s Sone Aluko and Fegor Ogude who have had enjoyed productive seasons. There are four goalkeepers, eight defenders, eight midfielders and ten strikers. Full Squad G ...

Brazil 2014: Enyeama, Emenike, Osaze, Mikel are Keshi’s biggest assets — Bazuaye *Says someone else took his father’s credit for the Atlanta ’96 gold As Nigerian football fans await the final release of the Super Eagles list for the 2014 Fifa World Cup in Brazil, former Nigerian International, Baldwin Bazuaye, has affirmed that players like Vincent Enyeama, Osaze Odemwingie, Emmanuel Emenike, Mikel Obi and Ikechukwu Uche will be Keshi’s biggest assets at the competition. In this interview with Sunday Vanguard sports, the former Lobi Stars FC of Markudi assistant manager and ex- Head Coach of the troubled Insurance of Benin, advises Stephen Keshi to be professional in the selection of players for the Mundial, adding that those calling on him to dump experienced players from the list do not mean well for him. Excerpts: Coach we have less than two months to Fifa World Cup in Brazil, are you comfortable with Super Eagles readiness for the competition? I would say ‘Yes and No,’ yes in the sense . ...
Nigerian Super Eagles Teammates; John Mikel Obi, Victor Moses, Vincent Enyeama and coach, Stephen Keshi all join in the fight against malaria. Watch video as they ask you to play your part!
OH, MIKEL! The day Jose Mourinho signed Matic, I lamented here that our own Mikel Obi's Chelsea days were over. But Chelsea fans, ever interested in mouthy exchanges, told me to mind my business. I wondered what could qualify better as my business when Nigeria's 2014 World Cup participation was in jeopardy! To win the Nations Cup in South Africa, Stephen Keshi anchored an average squad on Mikel and the ex-Chelsea regular showed why he was the main stay in Chelsea's back-to-back European triumphs. But Mourinho, just because Man City has Yaya Toure, decided he needed his own Yaya to stand any chance of winning the EPL. So, the Portuguese wittingly concluded to end the career of Mikel, who was in same playing mold with Yaya before the same Mourinho turned him into a robotic stationery, with instructions to sit deep, break up play, guide it with strength, pass to the nearest man but never near the centre line! Well, I pray Chelsea goes trophy-less this season so that Mourinho will come to grips that Mikel was ...
| credits: File copy Chelsea manager, Jose Mourinho, is hoping that Super Eagles midfielder Mikel Obi recovers in time for Wednesday’s UEFA Champions League game away at Turkish side, Galatasaray. Mikel did not feature in Chelsea’s hard earned 1-0 win over Everton on Saturday at Stamford Bridge and the Blues boss says his Nigerian import will face a late fitness test for the match in Istanbul. The Nigerian, if declared fit for the game, will play against former team mate Didier Drogba who now stars for the Turkish side. Mourinho said, “I don’t know if (John Obi) Mikel and David Luiz can recover in time either. “It’s important that at least one of them recovers as we won’t have Nemanja Matic as he is cup-tied. I don’t think we have other problems with players.” Nigeria coach Stephen Keshi is the other manager who is keeping a close watch on the status of the player as the country will take on Mexico in a friendly match on March 5. The match will be played in the United States of America. ...
A powerful team known for its attacking style of football, each generation of the Super Eagles have produced world class players who have gone on to have successful professional careers such as: Segun Odegbami, Christian Chukwu, Rashidi Yekini, Jay-Jay Okocha, Kanu Nwankwo, Finidi Geroge, Stephen Keshi, Sunday Oliseh, Taribo West, Victor Ikpeba, Daniel Amokachi, Mikel Obi and Peter Rufai - just to mention a few.
Punch Ronaldo is World Footballer of the Year JANUARY 14, 2014 BY FATAI IBRAHIM Cristiano Ronaldo Real Madrid and Portugal forward Cristiano Ronaldo has won the FIFA Ballon d’Or award for player of the year. Ronaldo scored a staggering 69 goals in 59 matches for club and country in 2013 and was hot favourite to lift the prestigious award he last held in 2008, reports Sky Sports. Barcelona and Argentina’s Lionel Messi has claimed the honour over the past four years but had to make way for his La Liga rival, despite his 43 goals in as many matches last year. Bayern Munich winger Franck Ribery, who helped his side win the treble of Champions League, Bundesliga and German Cup, was the other player in the running but the France international was also to be disappointed. But from the Nigerian side, it was not all smooth sail for Ronaldo as he did not receive any vote from the three Nigerian voters. Nigeria coach Stephen Keshi who backed Mikel Obi for the African Footballer of the Year award ironically voted ...

The Super Eagles booked their ticket to the 2014 Fifa World Cup with a 4-1 aggregate win over the Walia Antelopes of Ethiopia in Calabar. Attention will now be switched to preparing and making a big impression on football’s grandest stage in Brazil. It was an arduous qualification campaign and after all these months of fielding several players, Nigeria Head Coach Stephen Keshi should have a mental composition of his squad by now. A raft of players were invited for the lengthy but worthwhile journey to the showpiece event and some have impressed while others are not likely to be on that flight to South America next summer. The sure bets to be in the squad include the three goalkeepers Vincent Enyeama, Austin Ejide and Chigozie Agbim. Godfrey Oboabona, Kenneth Omeruo, Efe Ambrose and Uwa Echiejile look set to be the fulcrum of the Eagles defence while Mikel Obi, Ogenyi Onazi, Victor Moses and Emmanuel Emenike will certainly keep their place in the 23-man squad barring injuries. Players like Brown Ideye an ...
Super Eagles Coach, Stephen Keshi, believes Nigeria would have beaten four-time world champions, Italy, on Monday if the team did not show them too much respect. Italy came back from 2-1 down to draw 2-2 with the Eagles at Fulham's Craven Cottage, London. "Maybe, we had too much of respect for them, but I am sure if by chance we meet at the World Cup, we will put up a better performance," Keshi said. He therefore demanded more work and focus from his players in the lead-up to next year's World Cup in Brazil. "It's time to go back and work hard for our various clubsides and stay healthy, because that will form the basis for invitation when we resume next year," he said. "The truth is that not everybody here will go to the World Cup, but that is how football goes, so those who want to be part of the team must remain fit and play regularly for their clubsides." England-based stars like Mikel Obi, Shola Ameobi and Victor Moses have since rejoined their clubs. Keshi and other team officials are expected back i ...
UPDATES •MIKEL, MOSES TRAIN WITH EAGLES England-based stars Mikel Obi and Victor Moses were among the 16 players who were part of the Super Eagles first training in Calabar on Tuesday. Despite local flight hiccups, only nine Super Eagles players missed this evening training ahead of Saturday’s World Cup playoff against Ethiopia. By Monday afternoon, coach Stephen Keshi has led all members of the technical crew and other officials into the city now described as Nigeria and Africa’s number one tourism destination. Few hours later, Chippa United of South Africa central defender, James Okwuosa arrived camp to become the frist player from outside the shores of Nigeria to arrive. Top team official Dayo Enebi Achor, had said after Okwuosa’s arrival that all other players were already in the country and he was praying for flight to be on schedule to Calabar so that all of them will be at the first training session of the team. He was dead on point. Immediately after lunch Tuesday, John Mikel Obi came in w ...

Super Eagles Chief Coach, Stephen Keshi today released the list of 25 players to play Nigeria's final World Cup qualifying match against Ethiopia in Calabar by mid-November. The team, which includes Kenneth Omeruo, Mikel Obi, Victor Moses, goalkeeper Vincent Enyeama and 21 others will also play an international friendly against Italy in London 48 hours after the clash with Ethiopia.
Super Eagles SQUAD AGAINST ETHIOPIA NAMED Nigeria coach Stephen Keshi has named the same 23 players he invited for the Super Eagles World Cup qualifying tie against Malawi earlier this month for October's crunch play-off first leg with Ethiopia. The same players, apart from Chelsea midfielder Mikel Obi and Liverpool striker Victor Moses, also took part in a 4:1 friendly thrashing of Burkina Faso recently. Out-of-favour skipper Joseph Yobo stays out of the squad that looks likely now to be Keshi's main squad for the play-offs. The Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) is making plans for the team to train for four days in Abuja before heading to Addis Ababa. The NFF is hoping to beat the effects of the Ethiopian capital's high altitude by scheduling the team to arrive on the eve of the tie. "It is common knowledge that there are two ways of counter acting the effects of high altitude," head of the NFF's technical department Emmanuel Ikpeme explained to Kickoffnigeria.com. "Either to travel at least two weeks i ...
Nigeria coach Stephen Keshi may have upped his plans in his drive to get Victor Anichebe back into the Super Eagles squad. Keshi has confirmed that he would visit England essentially to hold talks with the Everton striker who recently put his international career on hold so he could "manage his body accordingly". Keshi is hoping to persuade the 25-year-old to change his mind and was counting on telephone calls and support from Chelsea midfielder Mikel Obi. On Thursday a fresh angle to the drive emerged. "Anichebe is a great striker. He is young, strong and gives us several options in attack. I plan to visit him in England and talk to him face to face," Keshi told BBC Sport. "We've tried in the past on the telephone but now is the time to speak to him in a proper meeting atmosphere. He's a smart boy, intelligent enough to know what is good for his body and we have to respect his fitness programme with his club. We have to put this into consideration when we talk to him. Hopefully, he can change his mind an ...

It was even more funny watching Mikel Obi dominate the midfield being the attacking midfielder while Xavi and co were the defensive midfielders.Soldado was smothered by two Nigerian League central defenders, Azubuike Egwueke (of Warri Wolves) and Godfrey Oboabona (Sunshine Stars FC.) The technical crew of the Super Eagles of Nigeria led by coach Stephen Keshi have confirmed the list of players to represent the country at the forthcoming FIFA Confederations Cup in Brazil as they put their 19 matches unbeaten streak at stake. Although, they will come up against world champions, Spain in one of the matches in group B, Federation of International football Association (FIFA) stated on its website that Super Eagles Goalkeeper, Vincent Enyeama and Midfielder, Mikel Obi are the stars to watch in the Nigerian side. According to FIFA, the African champions have plenty of strength with Enyeama and Mikel Obi being mentioned as the notable players in the Super Eagles team. Nigeria's opponent and group B favourite, Spain boasts of the best midfielders expected at the tournament which begins Saturday, next week. Super Eagles Chief Coach, Stephen Keshi is expected to drop about five players as the team prepares to depart Frankfurt today for the international friendly match against Mexico in Miami, Florida, U.S. Super Eagles’ Team Co-ordinator, Emmanuel Atta told reporters that 22 players are currently in camp, adding that the players have intensified their efforts to convince the coach that they deserved to be in the team. Attah confirmed that Mikel Obi, Kalu Uche, Ahmed Musa, Victor Moses, Fengor Ogude have officially pulled out from the friendly, assuring that only Uche and Moses will be out of the entire busy June season, while Mikel, Musa and Ogude have notified that they would be fit and available for the World Cup qualifiers and Confederations Cup respectively. He disclosed that Keshi would release the names of players chosen for the Mexico friendly after dinner today, adding that about five players will remain in Frankfurt, while the rest will travel to the United States for the international friendly mat ...
The worst player in a team is the player who can't help but get carried away by his personal style rather than the overall strategy endorsed by the team leader or coach. The only thing that has two heads is a monster. Mikel Obi used to love dribbling skills like the famous Jay-Jay who mostly thrilled the audience. He was forced to drop his personal style for the general well being of the team under Jose Mourinho. Many people were not happy for his change in style of play and I presume he wasn't happy too. But he had enough strength to subdue his personal desires for the overall well being of the team. Today and at a very young age, he already has won almost every medal in club football . Osaze Odewingwe is Nigerian football star. He disdained Stephen Keshi so much that he claimed he had achieved more in football than Keshi . This might be true, but failure to conform to the discipline and conformity of a team makes you a sore thumb. Stephen Keshi dropped him from the team and went ahead to win the AFCON. ...
Chelsea fielded Mikel Obi for the full 90 minutes in the first of two high friendly matches against Manchester City on Thursday (Friday, Nigerian time). The Europa League winners raced to three goal lead by the 60th minute but were brought down to earth by City’s four goals reply. Mikel was playing for the first time after a hip injurythat kept him out of the last three weeks of the 2012/13 season. He was paired in central midfield by Chelsea U-18 player, Ruben Loftus-Cheek. The Nigerian who has asked to be dropped from the Super Eagles friendly match against Mexico on May 31 spear headed the first goal as his pass from deep released Yossi Benayoun who then passed on to Juan Mata to deliver the cross from which Demba B scored with a header. Coach Stephen Keshi had stated that he was not sure about the midfielder’s fitness but having featured for all of 90 minutes against City, the Super Eagles coach can be rest assured that Mikel will be ready for Kenya on June 5. England internationals, Gary Cahill, F ...
Guardian Nigeria, Mexico International Friendly:Keshi doubts Mikel’s availability, Eagles move to U.S. on Monday THURSDAY, 23 MAY 2013 00:00 EDITOR SPORT - HOME COACH Stephen Keshi doubts the availability of Chelsea midfielder, Mikel Obi, for the friendly international game against Mexico. The Super Eagles face Mexico in Houston, Texas, on May 31 as preparation for their hectic schedule in June when they will play two World Cup qualifiers, as well as, feature in the FIFA Confederations Cup. Mikel is in England to process an entry visa to Brazil in time for the Confederations Cup. “I’m not sure he’s coming,” Keshi told MTNFootball.com from the Eagles training camp in Germany. “Our agreement before with Chelsea was for them to drop off both Mikel and Victor Moses after their own game. But now he is pursuing a visa to Brazil. “We’re also not sure about his condition, if he is fit or not. And so, Mikel might not be there with us.” The Eagles have been seriously depleted by the withdrawal of ...

Stephen Keshi should try restructure the squad in a way to make Victor Moses the play maker of the team so that enough space will be there for him to make more deft moves while Mikel Obi is placed as a defensive midfielder, the role he plays in chelsea. This tends to put the team in good stead to break defence and gain more possession.
I disagree with Stephen Keshi that nobody is a master when it comes to penalty. Mikel Obi is not a good penalty taker, Chelsea will never risk penalty option with Mikel. An example of penalty is Frank Lampard. All the same, it was an improvement from the last game. Emenike is the man of the match
They just look Super. The Super Eagles aren't anywhere near Super and Stephen Keshi ain't a Super Coach. I hope we wouldn't require a miracle to qualify from that group. We are almost always obsessed with miracles as if these guys are playing for free. I must say I love Keshi's forward. I am glad Keshi didn't include Osaze Odewinge and Obafemi Martins. I love Mikel Obi's deft touches and passes, but I think we need a strong defensive mild fielder. And what the *** is Joseph Yobo doing in our defense?
J. yobo, Mikel Obi, Uche Ikechukwu, Vincent Enyeama, Ogude, Efe Ambrose, Echejile, Daniel Amokachi & indeed Stephen Keshi can all b summed up as a very big bunch of disapointment. Keshi sud resign. Is it an Ibo team? I feel 4 Ahmed Musa & Nosa Igiebor.
Nations Cup: Who makes Keshi’s final list? AS the CAF deadline for the submission of team’s final 23-man list approaches, the process of whittling down the number of players in the Super Eagles camp in Faro, Portugal has already commenced. It has been confirmed that the performance of the players in a training camp in Faro has made Keshi’s job of selecting the Best Players for the Nations Cup more difficult. The Eagles spokesman Ben Alaiya confirmed this when he said Stephen Keshi is “growing grey hairs” over picking his squad for the Afcon. According to him, “In fact Keshi at the training on Thursday did not know when he voiced out that he is in trouble as he doesn’t know who to drop.” For example, the emergence of Ogenyi Onazi, Rabiu Ibrahim, Nosa Igiebor, Gabriel Reuben, Henry Uche, Raheem Lawal, Obiora Nwankwo and Mikel Obi, the battle for a shirt in the midfield would be tensed. This is because, there are great players who are skilful and can handle the ball very well. Already, four p ...
Stephen Keshi says he spoken to Mikel obi and that the Nigeria FA is right behind him
KESHI, BEWARE BY ONOCHIE ANIBEZE I’m sure Stephen Keshi must be savouring the 3-1 victory against Venezuela in an international friendly in Florida Thursday morning. Venezuela were semifinalists in the last Copa America. They lost the third place match to Paraguay on penalties. They are no minnows in football. The good thing about that victory was the withdrawal of Mikel Obi and Victor Moses from the match. It afforded Keshi the chance to try other players who probably would not have played. Mikel and Moses, for now, would always win first team shirts if they honour invitations to National Team. But no one could say so of Brown Ideye and Ogenwo Onazi who scored brilliant goals. Nosa Igiebor stood out in Liberia in the 2-2 draw in the Nations Cup qualifier and lived up to expectation in Calabar. But in Florida he seemed to have sealed a regular shirt in the Eagles. Many will tell the story of his superb goal for long. Not to forget the performance of debutants Shola Ameobi and Bright *** Keshi describe . ...
