Kristina Mladenovic stuns Li Na PARIS -- Another day on the clay at the French Open, another reigning Australian Open champion bites the red dust. Li Na lost her first Grand Slam match since winning the title in Melbourne, falling to Kristina Mladenovic of France 7-5, 3-6, 6-1 on Tuesday. The loss came a day after men's Australian Open champion Stan Wawrinka was eliminated in the first round. Li, who won the French Open in 2011 and was seeded second this year, ended up with 37 unforced errors on a cool and overcast day at Roland Garros. Mladenovic had only 25 errors. "Nobody say if you No. 2 in the world you have to win all the matches. I mean, this is tennis," Li said. "I think doesn't matter who plays today against me; I always lose the match today because I don't think she ... put a lot of pressure [on] me. I think today just I gave it away." Just watched the absolute BEST Grand Slam tennis final in many years, with Nadal injured after the Stanimal, Stan Wawrinka, playing brillliantly, took the first set and was up a break in the second. But there's nothing more dangerous than a wounded bear. Nadal, unable to move and barely able to serve, somehow took the 3rd set! The fourth set was an emotional roller coaster for both players, and me, yelling at the TV, *** it, drop shot him, Stan ... move him side to side . bring him in with that hurt back and lob to make him hit an darn overhead!" The announcers started wondering the same. But Stan was able to close it out 6-3 in the fourth, becoming a Grand Slam winner and making some history by taking out the top two seeds, becoming in the world, and passing countryman Roger Federer as the Swiss player. Congrats to the Stanimal!!

Caught the replay from last nights’ semifinals….what a performance by Rafa Nadal in his victory over Roger Federer! With the quicker conditions and strong form that Roger showed in his wins over Tsonga and Murray, he was hoping to make it a chance for another Grand Slam final however Rafa just couldn’t be denied. Rafa was stronger in all parts of the game and kept Roger pinned to the baseline with heavy ground strokes making it tough for him to attack. Could be an interesting final - Rafa, going for his 14th Grand Slam title to tie Pete Sampras for Grand Slam titles, has never lost to Stan Wawrinka (12-0). And even though it’s the first Grand Slam final for Stan, he’s had an incredible 15 months, playing with a lot of confidence and looks much more in control out there…who knows maybe is his lucky number.
I'm really sorry Roger lost to Rafa. After the tie -break, I went to bed. Hope Stan Wawrinka gets his first Grand Slam win. Never been a Nadal fan.
Congratulations to my all time favorite tennis player, Rafael Nadal for trashing Roger Federer to set himself against Stan Wawrinka. Nadal will be vying for his 14th Grand Slam title. Best of luck, Nadal.
Australian Open 2014: Day Eleven Diminika Cibulkova? What? I don’t think anyone was guessing that Radwanska would experience such a complete let-down and lose so easliy. Congratulations are in order for Cibulkova. She is playing great tennis and is in her first Grand Slam final. Wow! Go Little One! Did anyone catch Radwanska covering the camera lens with her towel as she excited the court? I believe that you can tell who a person really is by how they handle adversity. Ms. Radwanska handles it like a Crabby Moo. Before Tennis Announcers go on air, they should all agree on the pronunciation of difficult names, like Dominika Cibulkova’s. Martina Navratilova says, “Si-buhl-kova,” while Tracy Austin says, “See-bull-kova.” Which is it? Cliff Drysdale said that Aga Radwanska’s game is, “sweet, gentle and interesting.” Was he talking about her game or her personality? Why did Stan Wawrinka get to play his semi-final a full day before Rafa Nadal and Roger Federer? He gets more rest ti ...
Roger Federer will finish the 2013 calendar year ranked 8th in the world.David Ferrer, Tomas Berdych and Stan Wawrinka with a combined zero Grand Slam titles all ranked ahead of him...how many of us saw that coming...
Reaching the semifinals in his first appearance in London crowns an unbelievable year for Stan Wawrinka. 12 months ago, he was 27 and ranked 17 in the world - tennis fans knew he had huge talent, but surely his shot at glory had gone. But in 2013 he reached a Masters 1000 final and played two of the best matches we saw at Grand Slams all year, both against Novak Djokovic - one in the US Open semi-final. Just goes to show it's never too late! And, unlike Tipsarevic last year - Stan doesn't look like being a one-season wonder. If anything, he's got the game to achieve even more in 2014, with a top 5 world ranking and a Grand Slam title in sight! So congratulations to Stan!

What a finale! Again they saved the best for last in Melbourne where its now 2 AM. NOVAK'S DONE IT! And how. Djokovic with an impossible dipping cross-court pass on the backhand wing, wins at last 12-10 on his third match point in the fifth set. Djokovic rips his shirt from his rippling torso, while Stan Wawrinka, not surprisingly, is close to tears as he trudges from the court amidst a standing ovation. Cramping legs, past exhaustion. That was emotional. They'll be buzzing about this incredible match for days to come. The two time defending champion is into his 15th straight Grand Slam quarter-final, which surpasses Ivan Lendl and puts him third on the all-time list behind Roger Federer (34) and Jimmy Connors (27). Djokovic faces Tomas Berdych of the Czech Republic next. Can Novak become the first man in the modern era to win 3 Australian Opens in a row?
