SUNDAY FIXTURE MAN CITY TO MEET CHELSEA Two months ago few could have imagined a Premier League clash between Manchester City and Chelsea would have little bearing on the title race yet Sunday’s fixture is likely to be eclipsed by top against bottom battles. With 12 games left, champions City are 12 points adrift of leaders Manchester United, who visit bottom side Queens Park Rangers on Saturday (3:00 p.m), while third-placed Chelsea are a further four points behind. With their title challenges all but over and Champions League spots looking likely, the focus has switched to respective managers Roberto Mancini and Rafael Benitez, who know that any defeat can harm their job prospects long-term. Benitez is only in charge at Stamford Bridge until the end of the season but his hopes of a more permanent role seem doomed because of his unpopularity with the fans. Meanwhile, media reports have speculated that Mancini could be axed in May. Chelsea skipper John Terry, desperate to get back in the first team for ...

Here's the match report from Stamford Bridge...
The crisis-o-meter klaxon sounded at just after twenty-five past nine last night at Stamford Bridge. Chelsea had suffered a stodgy evening against Queens Park Rangers, the sort of bad day at the office that all of us have from time to time, when everything takes thirty seconds longer than we were expecting it to and that inevitable feeling of clock-watching is tempered only by that nagging feeling that there was something that needs to be done which hasn’t been. Queens Park Rangers, for their part, had defended doughtily, broken with menace and looked some distance from being the eleven man soap opera that we might have expected them to be if we took the entirety of our knowledge of them from the tabloid press, and with twelve minutes to play, when Shaun Wright-Philips swept in what turned out to be the only goal of the evening, it was well deserved, a solid indication that talk of their relegation from the Premier League isn’t quite the discussion of a foregone conclusion that it had been supposed to ...

It was a happy New Year for Queens Park Rangers at Stamford Bridge on Wednesday, with the Premier League's bottom club stunning capital rivals Chelsea 1-0. Shaun Wright-Phillips ensured Harry Redknapp's side made the best possible start to 2013, with the ex-Chelsea winger returning to haunt his former employers with a stinging drive which moved QPR level on points with Reading and five adrift of safety. Marko Marin, making his first start for Chelsea, was extremely lucky to escape a fourth-minute red card from referee Lee Mason after driving into the shin of Stephane Mbia with a one-footed, studs-first challenge. QPR then suffered a setback when Junior Hoilett limped off in the 16th minute with what appeared to be a hamstring problem, resulting in Wright-Phillips' arrival from the bench. The visitors rarely escaped their own half during the opening period, but defended resolutely with skipper Clint Hill nodding clear a curling shot from Oscar. Chelsea then lost their way in the 10 minutes before half-time ...

The Senegal striker's representatives met Chelsea officials last night to discuss a £7.5million move - but the two sides were unable to reach agreement over personal terms. The talks were labelled 'unproductive' which has immediately let Arsenal, Liverpool and Queens Park Rangers back into the race. However, last season's FA Cup and Champions League winners are not completely out of the running and could come back in with a better offer if owner Roman Abramovich feels Rafa Benitez's squad needs help up front if they are to mount a title challenge this season. Captain John Terry returns as Chelsea look to get back winning ways in the English Premier League when they host Liverpool on Sunday. Terry received a four-match ban in September for racially abusing Queens Park Rangers' defender Anton Ferdinand last season and sat on the bench in their 3-2 Champions League win against Shakhtar on Wednesday. As goodbyes go, they simply don't get any more dramatic. With his last ever kick in a Chelsea shirt, Didier Drogba won the Champions League for the first time in our history, and the man who departs the club this summer after eight years service will be forever regarded as a Stamford Bridge legend. While the Ivorian has certainly enjoyed more productive seasons in terms of the amount of goals scored, few will be able to match the 2011/12 campaign for the significance and importance of his strikes. He began the season on the bench, with Andre Villas-Boas giving Fernando Torres the nod in attack, and didn't score a goal until he netted in the 4-1 win against Swansea at the end of September. Following the Spaniard's dismissal in the same game and subsequent three-game ban, the Ivorian was handed his chance, but a first-half red card during a fiery London derby at Queens Park Rangers ensured he would need to wait a little longer for the game time he so desperately craved. A must-win game in the Champions Leag ...
