England Posted on October 3, 2014 by john Leaders Chelsea seek to quell Gunners(AFP) Cesc Fabregas will look to make Arsenal pay for their failure to re-sign him when he faces his old club in their match against Premier League leaders Chelsea at Stamford Bridge on Sunday. Once the jewel in the crown of Arsene Wenger’s squad, Spain midfielder Fabregas left the north London side to join boyhood club Barcelona in 2011. But he was never quite so central a figure with the star-studded Catalan giants and Arsenal had the option to buy back their former captain in pre-season. Mikel may be thrown out of Chelsea Jose Mourinho openly admitted that John Obi Mikel could end his stay at Chelsea FC. The Special One does not have enough squad place for foreigners so either him or other foreign players can be forced out of the club. After signing Dider Drogba the number of foreigners exceed the capacity of abroad players in Chelsea by one so that Mourinho will have to offload one of the players that couldn’t make it to the teams English Premier League squad anyway. John Obi Mikel, Petr Cech and Fernando Torres are among the figures linked with a move away from the English contenders but the weakest link among the three is undoubtedly Obi Mikel. “From the group you are expecting us to have as a squad, I have to send one away because we have one extra foreign player. “So from all these players, if you think all of them have to stay, you are wrong. One of them has to go,” Mourinho said. Despite playing over 200 matches for Chelsea FC Mikel’s time seems to have run out at Stamfor ...

Chelsea reject Inter bid for Mikel Chelsea have turned down a bid by Inter Milan for Nigeria star Mikel Obi. Inter, who are looking to strengthen ahead of a UEFA Europa League and Serie A campaign, have moved their attentions to the English Premier League. According to Vanguard, Nigeria midfielder Mikel is the player who has caught the attention of the Nerazzurri and they have approached the London club to try and initiate a deal. Reports in the English newspaper, The Daily Mirror, suggest that Inter have initially inquired about a loan move for the 27-year-old midfielder, but that has been refuted by Chelsea, who have in turn responded by making the player available for a 11 million price. The Nigerian star, who moved to Stamford Bridge after a controversial transfer in 2006, has gone on to make over 300 appearances for ‘The Blues’.
The Three Great Captains As the dust of this season’s English Premier League settles, we look back at three defensive blunders by the three most capable captains in the league. These mistakes marked the turning points that defined the race to the top of the table. The first was at Selhurst Park, when Terry, the grand commander of the miserly Chelsea defence, inexplicably headed the ball into his own net, though under duress from Crystal Palace forward. This swung the pendulum away from Chelsea towards Liverpool and Manchester City. This was not helped by their subsequent loss to Sunderland at Stamford Bridge. At Ainfield, after City had fought gallantly to equalize a two goal lead by Liverpool, Kompany, the stalwart at City’s defence, mis-kicked the ball, and allowed Cutinho to shoot the ball beyond the reach of Hart. This swung the pendulum away from City and towards Liverpool. Also at Ainfield two weeks later, Gerald, the Achilles heel of Liverpool's midfield, mis-controlled the ball and slipped ...
FOUR STAR CITY A DRAW AWAY FROM TITLE! Liverpool prayed for a miracle. Aston Villa were the supposed messiah. For an hour Cystanbul looked possible. Then Edin Dzeko opened the floodgates of a football heaven at Eastlands. By the time, Yaya Toure was hammering the final nail in the coffin of the Villains, the Red side of Merseyside must have been in death silence. Dzeko had got his brace and Stevan Jovetic had got on in the act. 4-0 it finished. Liverpool still praying for a miracle. Can West Ham be the new saviour? Man City now need only a draw to be confirmed champions of the English Premier League. The title has taken a short trip to the blue of the City. So it appears. Jose Mourinho said West Ham employ 19th century football, in perfecting the Portuguese art of packing the bus at Stamford Bridge, to get a draw. Even that artistry may not prove enough to derail Manchester's march to the third title in as many years. A draw will hand Manuel Pellegrini's men the title. Sunday is the decider. Miracles do h ...
Omeruo, Moses Plot Chelsea Exit Two Super Eagles youngsters on loan from English Premier League side, Chelsea,, Kenneth Omeruo and Victor Moses have new shades of summer transfer news rolling round them, with heavy hints that they may both not return to Stamford Bridge at the end of their current deals at Middlesbrough and Liverpool respectively. Details of the report out of Queensland indicate that Omeruo is apparently not satisfied with the three-year-deal offered him by Chelsea, while Moses is being touted with a lucrative contract with Europa League hopefuls, Everton. Football Direct News is of the belief that the Toffees are keen to lure the 23-year old Moses to Goodison Park once he returns to Stamford Bridge from his loan at Liverpool. Moses has struggled at Anfield but that has not stopped Everton showing interest, as the club currently being handled by the gaffer who tinkered him at Wigan Athletic, Roberto Martinez, ostensibly want him to replace young Spaniard, Gerard Deulofeu who is set to retu ...
Norwich Confirm Yobo’s Absence Norwich City of England have confirmed that their veteran central defender, Joseph Yobo will miss action in the English Premier League this weekend, as the Super Eagles skipper is still nursing the same injury that kept him out of The Canaries’ line up for the previous fixture. The development means Yobo, who is on loan at Carrow Road from Fenerbahçe of Turkey, will not be dressed for against once fearsome but now embattled Manchester United, as the former Everton stopper will now set eyes on making a return for the next tie out against Chelsea. The 33-year-old Yobo has made eight appearances for Norwich since his January loan move from Fenerbahçe but will not be part of their trip to Manchester on Saturday due to calf injury. Yobo will be eager to show the national team coaches he is fit enough to be part of the Nigeria squad to the World Cup in June when he makes his expected return to full fitness for the game against Chelsea on May 4 at Stamford Bridge. Norwich man ...

Daily Independent How Mourinho destroyed Wenger By Peter Edema – Group Sports Editor “We came to kill, and we destroyed them in 10 minutes, Ten amazing minutes, no doubt this game was our game. After that, easy. Penalty, red card, 3-0. Easy. But my analysis of the game is about Mourinho and Wenger Mourinho and Wenger the 10 minutes, says Chelsea Manager, Jose Mourinho after his 6-0 disgrace of Arsene Wenger’s Arsenal last Saturday at Stamford Bridge. The above quote best sums up the outcome of the English Premier League match. With Wenger hoping to celebrate his 1000th match as the Gunners coach with a win at Stamford Bridge or at worst a draw so as to keep its title hopes alive, but got in the bargain a huge humiliation reminiscence of the 8-2 defeat at the hands of Alex Ferguson three seasons ago. The result of the match simply proves that Arsenal does not belong to the class of teams that should be counted as top four teams in the EPL. When Liverpool hammered it 5-1 weeks back, Wenger defende ...
Arsenal manager Arsene Wenger has taken full responsibility for his side's humiliating 6-0 loss to Chelsea on Saturday. The Gunners were completely outclassed by Jose Mourinho's team, running riot against them at Stamford Bridge. On a memorable occasion that Wenger was marking his 1000th game in charge of the club, there was nothing to cheer for the Frenchman as he watched his team torn apart by his great foe,Mourinho. Wenger described the defeat as one of the worst days in his career, saying after the game: "This is my fault," he was quoted as saying on BBC Sport. "We got a good hiding. You don't prepare all week to experience that." "I don't think there's too much need to talk about the mistakes we made," he added. "It's how we respond now on Tuesday night [against Swansea] and the best way is not to explain too much the mistakes." Wenger is currently the longest-serving manager in the English Premier League, and has only become the fourth coach after Sir Matt Busby, Dario Gradi and Sir Alex Ferguson - to a ...

Arsenal, City keep on Chelsea's tail (AFP) Saturday 22 February 2014 Arsenal and Manchester City replied in kind after John Terry scored an injury-time winner against Everton to preserve Chelsea's position as English Premier League leaders on Saturday. Chelsea's victory momentarily gave them a four-point lead at the summit, but Arsenal closed the gap to a point by overwhelming Sunderland 4-1 and City are three points back with a game in hand after edging Stoke City 1-0. Arsenal had been dealt a dispiriting 2-0 defeat by Bayern Munich in the UEFA Champions League on Wednesday and they reacted in style by outclassing third-bottom Sunderland at the Emirates Stadium. Left on the bench against Bayern, Olivier Giroud was restored to the starting line-up to face Sunderland and the Frenchman responded with a brace of goals in the first 31 minutes. The former Montpellier man also played a role in the glorious move that led to Tomas Rosicky chipping in Arsenal's third goal before half-time, with Laurent Koscielny h ...

ENGLISH FA CUP 5TH ROUND: MASSIVE SHOWDOWN AS CHELSEA ONCE AGAIN TAKES THE BATTLE TO THE Etihad Stadium TO FACE Manchester City! Manchester City vs Chelsea For the second time in the space of 12 days, Jose Mourinho takes his Chelsea team to the Etihad Stadium to do battle with Manuel Pellegrini's Manchester City, this time, in the 5th Round of the English FA Cup. Already this season, both sides have met in both legs of the English Premier League where Fernando Torres's last minutes goal gave Chelsea a 2-1 victory at the Stamford Bridge in the first leg. While Branislav Ivanovic fired Chelsea to a much talked about victory right inside the Etihad Stadium in the reverse fixture. The Blues are in search of a third straight victory over the Citizens this season. Manchester City have Samir Nasri and Javi Garcia back from injuries. They are both fully fit for this tie. While Fernandinho, Matija Nastsic and Sergio Aguero are still out injured. Chelsea on the other hand have Fernando Torres back, fit and ready fo ...
Chelsea facing defensive dilemmas (PA) Wednesday 12 February 2014 Share Chelsea facing defensive dilemmas © AFP Chelsea boss Jose Mourinho is in danger of being without key central defenders John Terry and Gary Cahill for Saturday's FA Cup clash at Manchester City. Mourinho had hoped Terry would be fit for the English Premier League game at West Bromwich Albion after sitting out Saturday's 3-0 victory over Newcastle United at Stamford Bridge with a double muscle injury. But the 33-year-old was again missing, with his absence felt as the Baggies staged a late second-half rally to grab a 1-1 draw following Branislav Ivanovic's opener in first-half injury-time. Mourinho will be hoping the additional game off will have allowed Terry sufficient time to recover ahead of the fifth-round tie with City. Terry's presence is crucial as Cahill limped away from The Hawthorns with a damaged calf sustained shortly prior to Victor Anichebe heading home an 87th-minute equaliser, meaning he is now a major doubt for the tr ...

Salah passes medical in Paris ahead of imminent Chelsea move By Mohammed Nasr-El-Din Chelsea-bound Egyptian winger Mohamed Salah passed a medical in Paris on Friday ahead of his imminent move to Stamford Bridge. 21-year-old Mohamed Salah’s move to Chelsea now looks imminent as the medical was completed yesterday and the player is expected to sign a contract within the coming hours, Esportana report. Salah departed from Zurich on Friday morning to have his medical examination in Paris, which he passed in the evening. The Egyptian winger returned to Switzerland right after where he awaits on his visa and work permit’s arrival before traveling to London. The Egyptian couldn’t undergo a medical in London as he’s a non-EU player, but Salah is expected to sign a five-year contract with Chelsea ‘within the coming hours’. Once he is officially unveiled by Chelsea in London, he will become the first ever Egyptian international to join one of the ‘Big Four’ clubs of the English Premier League. It sh ...
Europa League Preview: St Gallen vs Swansea KO 18:00 Previous Meetings; Wayne Routledge's second-half goal secured a 1-0 win for Swansea when the sides first met on matchday two. It was Swansea's first encounter with Swiss opponents. St Gallen's only previous meetings with English Premier League opponents are fondly remembered; under Marcel Koller, the Swiss club eliminated Chelsea FC in the first round of the 2000/01 UEFA Cup, overturning a 1-0 deficit from the Stamford Bridge leg with a 2-0 win in St Gallen. Swansea are based in Wales but qualified for the UEFA Europa League as winners of the English League Cup. Only five UEFA club competition games have been played between Welsh and Swiss sides, with the Welsh having slightly the better of them – W3 D1 L1 (W3 D0 L0 at home – W0 D1 L1 in Switzerland). Match Background; St Gallen have lost all four of their Group A games since beating Kuban 2-0 on matchday one, though they also scored twice in their last home fixture: a 3-2 defeat by Valencia. Mikel, Moses, Osaze Shake England The biggest story out of England surely has to be John Obi Mikel’s first ever goal in the English Premier League, as the Chelsea midfielder made the best of his 185th appearance for The Blues to sink home a sizzler in the club’s 2-0 spanking of city mates, Fulham. Mikel scored his first goal in the EPL on a historic evening at Stamford Bridge, as The Blues rebounded from a four-match winless run to beat their London neighbours. ‘The Catalyst’ hit home the definitive goal in the 84th minute of play to hand Jose Mourinho and Chelsea fans a collective sigh of relief. Statistics showed that Mikel had 92% pass accuracy from 99 touches on the ball while committing one foul and attempted two shots, from which he scored one and successfully completed four tackles. Similar edifying statistics are also rolling in favour of the summer transfer duo of Victor Moses and Peter Osaze Odemwingie, who have both hit the ground running with their respective new clubs and already have ...
John Obi Mikel's first English Premier League goal helped end Chelsea's run of four winless games as they beat west London rivals Fulham 2-0 on Saturday. Mikel struck six minutes from fulltime against Fulham with a close-range half-volley after Oscar had opened the scoring early in the second half at Stamford Bridge. The three points took Jose Mourinho's team to the top of the table, after a testing period in which they lost to Bayern Munich in the Uefa Super Cup final and were beaten by Everton and Basle. Mourinho made a big statement with his team selection, with Juan Mata and David Luiz left out of the matchday squad altogether. Fulham, with three ex-Chelsea players in their midfield – Scott Parker, Damien Duff and Steve Sidwell – had the best of the early chances. Duff made ground on the right flank and when the ball broke to Alex Kacaniklic, he crossed for Sidwell to head just over the crossbar. Darren Bent had a clearer opportunity when Pajtim Kasami played him clean through on goal, but his tam ...
Mikel scores first EPL goal after seven years NIGERIAN midfielder, Mikel Obi, scored his first ever English Premier League goal on Saturday as Chelsea defeated Fulham 2-0 at Stamford Bridge. Mikel’s first goal came after 185 EPL appearances for Chelsea since he joined the Blues in 2006 from Lyn Oslo. Brazilian Oscar put the home side ahead in the 52nd minute but it was Mikel, who put the game beyond the hard fighting visitors with a superb finish with six minutes to regulation time, to the admiration of club owner, Roman Abramovich. The Nigeria international seems to have realised his attacking instinct as he had scored another classical goal in the 2013 Confederations Cup against Uruguay. “I am very happy for my goal; it’s been a long time. I also did (score) for the national team. It’s something I always want to do but I have to put myself in the right position,” Mikel said after the match. Another Nigerian, Sone Aluko fired a spectacular late winner for Hull City as the Tigers twice came back ...
Jose Mourinho, now that you have finally settled on your second stint at the helm of my club – Chelsea – allow me to lay our expectations to you. Off course, for the few years that you were away, the club had missed your services. That’s not in doubt. We loved you then and even loved you when you were gone. More so, even now, we love you and promise to love you even more in the days to come. However, let that not obscure the fact that we only called you back since we want results. You are the most loved Chelsea Manager of all time. You made a name during your first stay at the Stamford Bridge when you won the English Premier League (EPL) Cup for the club – the first since 1955. It was an outstanding achievement! A rare fete! And a triumph! But, you soon veered off the sanity path when you realized you were our treasure. Yes! You began insulting and infuriating anybody whom you disliked to prove that you were the boss. Off course, you were the boss. That was not in doubt. Nobody tried smarts on you ...
Should Mikel Eat Gala Offer? A dicey dilemma is staring Chelsea of England midfielder, John Mikel Obi (The Catalyst) in the eye, as a tempting offer has fallen on his lap from Galatasaray of Turkey, who are seriously thinking about lining out a summer transfer deal that should take him from Stamford Bridge to Istanbul. However, it’s not an open-shut issue, as the lure and glamour of the English Premier League plus possibilities of nicking more laurels and still garnering pounds with Chelsea appear like baits to keep the former Lyn Oslo of Norway star in London, even if he may end up tolling as a bit-part playing in the second coming of Portuguese gaffer, Jose Mourinho to The Blues. Mikel continues to rise in stock with both club and country, especially as an established Nigerian international, since bursting into the superstars’ galaxy after his intense transfer saga that involved Oslo Lyn of Norway as well as English Premier League rivals, Manchester United and Chelsea. The tripod tussle was over the ...

Nigeria's Victor Moses could be a surprise first target for new Everton boss Roberto Martinez Mirror Football reports. The Goodison new chief believes his former Wigan striker - sold to Chelsea for £9m - may be up for grabs with the arrival of Jose Mourinho at Stamford Bridge. With Romelu Lukaku heading back to Chelsea after an eye-catching loan year at West Brom, Moses could be squeezed out despite playing a role last season. Moses played under Martinez at Wigan and the new Toffees boss is keen to get reacquainted with the 22 year-old Nigerian who has enjoyed a flying year with Chelsea and Nigeria. Close watchers of the transfer market and the English Premier League suggest that Moses may find himself slipping further and further down the pecking order behind the likes of Eden Hazard, Juan Mata and Brazilian Oscar. With Mourinho back in the Chelsea hot seat, the Nigerian international could find a regular starting place even harder to hold down; and Moses may think his best bet is to seek pastures new a ...
Mourinho would choose Inter over Chelsea According to reports, Real Madrid boss Jose Mourinho would welcome a return to management in Italy rather than England. by Jason Pettigrove It would appear that Jose Mourinho’s days at Real Madrid are numbered with a divorce at the end of this season the most likely scenario. There will be no shortage of takers for the services of the ‘Special One’ and reports indicate that the Portuguese would prefer a return to Italy. Internazionale, where he won the treble, would be his preferred destination, but after losing out on Pep Guardiola, it is expected that Roman Abramovich will do everything in his power to rekindle a relationship that appeared broken a few years ago. Mourinho has not entirely dismissed a return to Stamford Bridge and he has made no secret of his love for the English Premier League. However, he has often remarked in interviews that his favourite football memory was his Champions League win with the Milan club. inside spanish football, admin andr ...

Chelsea have thrashed a hapless Aston Villa 8-0 in their English Premier League clash at Stamford Bridge in London.
Juventus are keen to sign Didier Drogba in the January transfer window and have him playing in Serie A when the African Cup of Nations is finished. Drogba is currently of the books of Chinese outfit Shanghai Shenhua, but it doesn’t seem as though his move to Asia has gone all that smoothly. The Chinese top flight is currently in its closed-season and the Ivorian is training with English Premier League side and former employers Chelsea, but is not likely to return to Stamford Bridge. Although Roman Abramovich would be keen to sign the man that won him in the Champions League, it is thought Drogba is happy to be remembered as a legend at the club and doesn’t want to do anything to damage that status. So, Juve are looking to bring in some fire-power in the window this season and Drogba is still a very good forward that can cause a lot of trouble for defences. He might see this as another challenge in his superb career, and could be ready to help the Italian champions reach the latter stages of the Europ ...
Report: Chelsea close in on Shaw Chelsea are closing in on the signing of Southampton prodigy Luke Shaw, according to reports. The young left-back, who turned 17 in July, has been closely monitored by the European Champions in recent months and is set to be the subject of an offer ahead of the January window. Goal.com report that Chelsea have identified Shaw as a potential understudy to Ryan Bertrand, with the prospect growing that Ashley Cole will leave Stamford Bridge. Shaw has been heavily scouted by several leading English Premier League clubs, with Arsenal and Manchester City among those who have made enquiries about signing him. But the firmest interest has been shown by Chelsea, who made it clear to Southampton they would like to take the England Under-17 international to Stamford Bridge. Shaw has been dubbed 'the new Gareth Bale' and is the latest star graduate of an academy which has recently produced Theo Walcott and Alex Oxlade- Chamberlain, as well as the Tottenham winger. Shaw made his Southa ...
The biggest English Premier League game of the weekend is undoubtedly the Chelsea vs Manchester City matchup at Stamford Bridge in London today, November 25th. Chelsea will be hoping their home advantage & new coach earn them all the three points at stake. Both teams are coming off a disappointing week in the Champions League. Man City was held to a 1-1 home draw against Real Madrid which ultimately condemned them to the less prestigious EuropaCup while Chelsea were handed a lesson in goal scoring in Turin where they fell 3-0 to Italian champions, Juventus. City hasn’t lost a game in the league yet and go into this game in second place with 28 points from eight wins and four draws. Chelsea also come into this match sitting in fourth place just behind West Brom. They have seven wins, three draws and two losses in league play. A win against City here would put them right back in the middle of the title race after having only managed to earn two points in their last four league matches. In their last 10 me ...
West Brom vs. Chelsea: Recent Slump Makes Match a Must-Win for Blues In the last two weeks, Chelsea has dropped from the top spot in the English Premier League to third place. If this club is not careful, "things can get much worse". The last three league matches for the Blues have resulted in a loss and two draws. To make matters worse, two of these took place at home at Stamford Bridge. Although the hamstring injury to star midfielder Juan Mata hurt the team against Swansea City, he has played since and looks to be near full strength. Another excuse for the recent struggles could be the hectic schedule. Including Champions League and the Capital One Cup, Chelsea has played seven matches in 23 days. This is enough to cause any team to struggle with fatigue. Fortunately, there was a break in play and the squad had almost a full week to recuperate for the upcoming match. That next match is a big one. The Blues have to travel to The Hawthorns to face West Bromwich Albion, a club that has performed much bett ...
Captain John Terry returns as Chelsea look to get back winning ways in the English Premier League when they host Liverpool on Sunday. Terry received a four-match ban in September for racially abusing Queens Park Rangers' defender Anton Ferdinand last season and sat on the bench in their 3-2 Champions League win against Shakhtar on Wednesday. But the captain should line up this week at Stamford Bridge, in a boost for Chelsea's beleaguered defence, who have let through 10 goals in his absence from the side. Liverpool are 12 points behind second-placed Chelsea in 12th position after their worst start to a League season in 101 years - sitting on 11 points from 10 matches. Manager Brendan Rodgers rested captain Steven Gerrard and top scorer Luis Suarez in the side's 1-0 loss to Anzhi Makhachkala in the Europa League on Thursday. Suarez has been a shining light for Liverpool scoring seven goals, more than half of his team's total, and adding two assists in 10 Premier League games this season. Rodgers' squad dre ...
Another fantastic advert for the English Premier League from Stamford Bridge. Gutted at the score but considering the side we had out an incredible performance. Bring on Arsenal on Saturday
Chelsea to beat Arsenal without Drogba says Mikel Nigeria midfielder Mikel Obi has declared that Chelsea could still beat Arsenal without the dreaded Didier Drogba in Saturday's high-profile English Premier League clash. Mikel told MTNFootball.com that Chelsea have some exciting players who could score goals in the absence of Drogba, who the Nigeria star described as a Stamford Bridge legend. "I have heard that there is relief in Arsenal that Drogba won't play this game, but Chelsea is not all about Drogba. With due respect to him, he was a legend and I miss him, but there are a lot of exciting and good players in the attack who have been getting the goals for us now,” said Mikel. “We can beat Arsenal without Drogba and that is what we are going for at the Emirates on Saturday. “Arsenal are in good shape now no doubt, same goes for us, we have not lost in the league this season, and we hope to keep it that way." Chelsea are top of the EPL after five rounds of matches with 13 points, four points ahea ...

Chelsea and Newcastle lock horns in a crucial English Premier League clash at Stamford Bridge on Wednesday.
The eyes of the world will turn to Camp Nou on Tuesday when Barcelona host Chelsea in the Champions League semi-finals. Reigning champions Barca trail Chelsea 1-0 following their surprise defeat in the first leg at Stamford Bridge last Wednesday. Chelsea have been well below their best for much of the season, and few observers gave them a chance of upsetting Pep Guardiola's team. The home side did indeed see little of the ball during the 90 minutes, but somehow snatched a goal through veteran striker Didier Drogba just before the half-time whistle. Alexis Sanchez and Pedro Rodriguez hit the woodwork for Barca, and Chelsea goalkeeper Petr Cech was called upon several times to deny the visitors. Given the prize on offer, it would appear the coaches of both teams are prioritising Wednesday's return fixture over domestic considerations.
