The beginning of the Christian Church is reckoned from the great day on which the Holy Ghost came down, according as our Lord had promised to His Apostles. At that time, "Jews, devout men, out of every nation under heaven," were gathered together at Jerusalem, to keep the Feast of Pentecost (or Feast of Weeks), which was one of the three holy seasons at which God required His people to appear before Him in the place which He had chosen (Deuteronomy xvi. 16). Many of these devout men there converted by what they then saw and heard, to believe the Gospel; and, when they returned to their own countries, they carried back with them the news of the wonderful things which had taken place at Jerusalem. After this, the Apostles went forth "into all the world," as their Master had ordered them, to "preach the Gospel to every creature" (St Mark xvi. 15). The Book of Acts tells us something of what they did, and we may learn something more about it from the Epistles. And, although this be but a small part of the who ...

Wouldn't Sundays be lovely without the traffic and parking chaos caused by the St Mark's Coptic Church? This is how it would look. Today is the day after the feast of the Epiphany in the Coptic Calendar. There were major celebrations last night so today the usual Sunday masses and revenue raising bbqs were not held. If Sundays were like this you would be able to go out, do some shopping and be able to park outside your house. You would be able to have friends and relatives visit you because they would be able to park near your house. Elderly residents could be visited by their family members. But no, we can't have that. Enjoy today, friends and neighbours. Appreciate the quiet.

When I attended church services today at St Mark church in the Western Sydney suburb of Plumpton, the pastor in charge who happens to be a South Sudanese cancelled the usual Sunday services but instead as for the general prayers to God for our country to be peaceful. He asked five people to lead the prayers. Four of those people broke down in tears of agony before they could conclude. As a result, literally everybody was overwhelmed by emotions and had tears streaming down their faces while others screamed a cry of sadness, some collapsed hysterically, others like me were just fuming as they try to repress those painful feelings. An atmosphere of gloom looms in the church. One of them, an elderly woman showed an amazing composure by asking people to be strong and never lose hope. He said, "You are the future leaders that will bring good leadership tomorrow." I can extrapolate that to be how the South Sudanese all over the world regardless of tribes feel during these days of crises. The biggest problem he ...

Elvis Costello - Car Key Blanks - Blank Car Key Manufacturer Early life Costello was born Declan Patrick MacManus in St Mary's Hospital, London, the son of Lillian (ne Ablett) and Ross MacManus, a musician and bandleader. He is of Irish heritage. Costello lived in Twickenham, attending what is now St Mark's Catholic Secondary School in neighbouring Hounslow. With a musically inclined father (his father sang with The Joe Loss Orchestra), Costello's first broadcast recording was alongside his dad in a television commercial for R. White's Lemonade ("I'm a Secret Lemonade Drinker"). His father wrote and sang the song; Costello provided backing vocals. The ad won a silver award at the 1974 International Advertising Festival. Costello moved with his Liverpool-born mother to Birkenhead in 1971. There, he formed his first band, a folk duo called Rusty, with Allan Mayes. This from Dr Steve Disney on the Cornish Language: “Dr Steve Disney, Department of Applied Language Sciences, University of St Mark & St John, Plymouth I fully support the views and made the additional point in a previous post that it is very well known in academic circles that there are many benefits to learning a second language, regardless of which. For a start, bilingual people have long been known to have improved cognitive development (see for example Hakuta and Diaz 1985, and for a modern take). It has also been found that bilinguals have +4 year later onset of Alzheimer's than similar profile monolinguals ( for a summary would also ask; Why teach algebra? Why teach the history of art? Why teach football? Maybe one Cornish child in 100, 000 will become a professional footballer, maybe 1 in 10,000 will work in art, including galleries etc, maybe 1 in the 465,000 people in Cornwall will use a quadratic equation outside of school, yet every child that goes through school learns this stuff. Why? Beca ...

Today is Friday, July 5, the 186th day of 2013. There are 179 days left in the year. Today's Highlight in History: 1). In 1935, President Franklin D. Roosevelt signed the National Labor Relations Act. 2).In 1962, independence took effect in Algeria after 132 years of French rule; the same day, civilians of European descent, mostly French, came under attack by extremists in the port city of Oran. 3). In 1969, Death of Tom Mboya economics minister, assassinated in Narobi Kenya. 4). 1950 Law of Return passes, guarantees all Jews right to live in Israel 5). 1973 "Live & Let Die," James Bond film premiers 6). In 2008, "The Bachelor" TV personality Andrew Firestone (32) weds Serbian model and actress Ivana Bozilovic (30) at St Mark's in the Valley Episcopal Church in Los Olivos, California WHAT DO YOU REMEMBER ON THIS DAY PLEASE. IN YOUR VILLAGE, COUNTY, OR .
For the first (and possibly last) time I am drinking coffee in this Café overlooking Dam Square, sitting in the sunshine. OK, so it's a little touristy, but I think it's €3.50 well spent... And still considerably cheaper than the equivalent in St Mark's square in Venice!
Penguin Tai Chi. Tuesdays are always long days for me, with a Hypnosis Clinic sandwiched in-between Tai Chi classes, and all at different venues. Yesterday started with my Tai Chi students and I being inadvertently locked out of St Mark's Church Hall, in Lower Hutt. I managed to contact the centre manager, who came along to let us 10 minutes later. But, for that 10 minutes, passers by were treated to the hilarious site of our small but keen group going through our Tai Chi warm ups in the church car park. It was bitter cold, and we had on so many layers that we couldn't fully move. It looked as if a group of penguins were doing Tai Chi! We warmed up once we got inside though, and had a good laugh about it. It taught me a few things though. Namely, you don't need a sunny day and a beach to do Tai Chi outside, just a sense of humour, a car park and good coat!
St Mark's church was abuzz with activities tonight - the church had The Ensemble Singers performing directed by our very own church organist Angie Sainsbury! In the hall the Guild was hosting a family evening Bingo Event. It was amusing seeing our very own Father Musa running from one event to the other. You can still catch the Ensemble singers tomorrow at 4.00pm doing another show. A reminder church services tomorrow morning at 8.00am and 10.30am.

We always knew that Georgia was high-maintenance, so having to make multiple adjustments should not be surprising. According to the funeral directors, the Lutheran pastor, AND the Catholic Church, the following is TRUE and REAL. It was suggested to me that St Mark would be too small to accommodate the turnout, and the parking that would necessitate. So, the following funeral re-arrangements have been made: St Elizabeth Ann Seton Catholic Church (my church) 310 Hertzler Rd. Mechanicsburg (Mt Allen Heights neigborhood) At 11:00 AM Luncheon to follow. Note I: This will be Lutheran service. Note II: G's obituary is posted at Caring Bridge and at Malpezzi's web-site.

Miracle surrounding the death of St Mark (tradition) There is a tradition which says that Mark was the youth who witnessed Judas' betrayal of Christ in the Garden of Gethsemane. Of the four evangelists, only St. Mark relates the incident: And there followed Him a certain young man, having a linen cloth cast about his naked body; and the young men laid hold on him: And he left the linen cloth, and fled from them naked (Mark 14:51-52). His mother had a house in Jerusalem (cf. Acts 12:12), which some suppose to have been in or near the Garden. Perhaps the youth was awakened-the betrayal occurred at night-and ran out to see what the commotion was about. It is, in any case, a plausible explanation of why he was undressed. By birth a Jew of the priestly tribe of Levi, St. Mark was a nephew of the Apostle Barnabas. Although not a direct disciple of Jesus Christ, he was one of the 70 Apostles. One can assume that he became acquainted with many of Christ's disciples when they gathered in his mother's home. ...

1. The Departure of Pope Mikhail the First, the 68th. Patriarch of Alexandria. On this day of the year 818 A.M. (May 25th., 112 A.D.), the holy father Pope Mikhail, the sixty eighth Pope of Alexandria, departed. He was knowledgeable in the church books from his youth, and recited them from memory. He desired to worship God, and went to the wilderness and became a monk in St. Macarius monastery. He was ordained a priest, then he went to a place near Singar, and lived there in a cave for more than 20 years, fighting the good spiritual war. His virtues were known to everyone. He was chosen to the Throne of St Mark and was enthroned on the 12th day of Babah, 89 A.M. (October 9th., 192 A.D.), after he had proclaimed the Orthodox faith. He took care of the priests of the churches of Alexandria. He did not allow "Simony", and returned all the properties of the church that the Pope before him took to himself. He never too to himself even one Dinar. He lived on very little money, and spent most of it to feed the p ...

The establishment of Democracy The Rothschild's instigate the French revolution in 1789 in an attempt to purge Europe of the widespread failure of Roman Catholic authority, as the religious frauds were being exposed through the revolution of the printing press, and the removal of the absolute monarch system which was difficult to dominate, so the Church and the Rothschild’s worked to establishment the fraud of democracy. "The French armies of the Directory, now intent on the destruction of the structures of Catholic temporal power, entered Rome on 29th August 1799, Pope Pius VI was kidnapped, an action sanctioned by the Directory in Paris who referred to him as the 'last Pope'. He died in captivity, a broken man. The remaining Cardinals fled to Austrian held Venice to convene the conclave for the inauguration of a successor. The election of Pius VII succeeded despite the denial of St Mark's Cathedral as a coronation venue by the Austrian authorities intent on controlling the power of the new pontiff.” ...

Well done Dr. Clarice Modeste you never gave up on them and that you made publicly clear Good to see you back! by Caribupdate VICTORIA, ST MARK’S: It was an emotional yet happy homecoming on Saturday as loved ones greeted three St Mark fishermen who were lost at sea for 10 days. Walter Burke, Maxwell Ettienne and Stefon St. Louis left the Waltham Fish Market on January 29 on a fishing expedition that was expected to last four days. However, by the second day, their fishing craft was experiencing trouble that they believed was being caused by a shortage of fuel. The boat began drifting and the men issued a distress call. Upon arriving in St Mark at 10:45am Saturday, Ettienne was welcomed home to teary hugs from his twin daughters and wife. He excitedly declared: “I’m back!’’ In an exclusive interview with Caribupdate Weekly, wife Lynette Ettienne said she never lost hope that her husband would safely return. She repeated his words to her before he left. “Whenever you see 40 days have passed and ...

This Robert Johnson photo is way cool. Back in late June 1991 a few weeks after we opened up his art gallery in The Cannery in San Francisco's famed Fisherman's Wharf Rick Griffin and I attended the second of three Jimi Hendrix estate auctions held at Sotheby's. At it I garnered Jimi's famous tourquoise inlaid belt buckle as well as two songs in his own handwriting. Rick, I and Eddie Murphy end up on local NYC channel 10 news, but I digress. Afterwards Rick and I were traipsign around St Mark's Square going in & out of the shops. One was a music store. Therein Rick scored and gave to me as a "thank you" present the then-semi-new "complete" CD collection replete with linear notes of all 42 known Robert Johnson songs. I still have that, one of my most treasured possessions on many levels. I miss my friend.
Congratulations to St Mark's High School Warrenpoint on winning their postponed Ulster Schools Cup game today
Meeting with the church council for a bit (@ St Mark's Lutheran Church)
What a hot blistery day it was today. This morning at 7 AM it was already 70 degrees. By 10 AM it was 80 degrees. Now that isn't really that hot for an old desert rat like me except I'm walking non-stop from 8:15 to 5:30. My body heat coupled with the outside heat makes for a difficult day. However, I was still able to walk 18.43 miles today. Only 4 more days of 18+ miles a day then I move down to 15+ miles a day until February 10th when I start my last 5 days of 5 miles a day. I can't wait for that (I think). I'm a little concerned I might not be giving myself enough "cool down" time but I'll take that chance. The last day I had off was Thanksgiving when I helped serve Thanksgiving dinner to Sandy survivors at St Mark's of the Bowery. On Friday I have the honor of walking a ways with fellow stroke survivor Sara Ellison Guthrie. I am so pleased she is going to join me for a bit even if its only a few steps. A few steps is better than no steps. I would also like to congratulate Benjamin Timoner who is walk ...

Portadown is located in an area known during the troubles as the "murder triangle" because of the high number of killings carried out by paramilitary organisations. The town is the site of an annual parade in July by an ex-serviceman's lodge of the Orange Order, from St Mark's Church in the town centre, where participants lay wreaths at the war memorial. Participants then marched to Drumcree Church through the predominately nationalist Obins Street (also known as the "Tunnel" area because of an underground walkway connecting it to a higher level at the bottom of Fowler's Entry/Mary Street/John Street). There are records of violent attacks on the Catholics in this area by members and supporters of the 'Orange boys' (later the Orange Order) dating as far back as June - July 1795. In the 1970s and 1980s residents of the Obins Street area objected to the Orange marches, claiming they were triumphalist and arguing that they marked them as being second-class citizens. A local anthropologist has argued th ...

We can only imagine Empress Menen's busy day, it has often been written that she was up early and observed the Orthodox morning devotional time at sunrise. She often went to St Mark's Church on the Palace grounds for morning prayers. A women helped her in her office, and Menen must have spent time reviewing her many charities and the financial assets set aside to support them. So many schools, churches, train stations, airports, bridges were opened during Emperor Haile Selassie's reign, there were always events on the schedule to attend and she was spoke at many women's meetings. To see to her children's upbringing, Menen must have taken an interest in their schools and teachers. She most likely had a hand in the Ethiopian menus for the different receptions that were held as she was known to be a very good cook. As any good mother, she juggled many responsibilities at the same time. Hail the Empress!

Advent: “Pondering” Luke 2:19 “But Mary treasured all these words and pondered them in her heart.” Over fifty years ago my husband and I were members of St Mark's United Methodist Church in Rockville Centre, on Long Island. He was a member there from the time he was in high school, and I became a member after we married. I was asked to be “Mary” in their Christmas pageant. I was the mother of a baby girl and newly pregnant with my second child. I had been wondering how I would manage with two children so close together. I never thought that I “pondered” about it. “Pondered” wasn't a word that we used. But I guess I did “ponder”. Maybe I even worried! So that focused my attention on Mary differently than ever before. I couldn't imagine how it must have been for her. To be so young, and to be told her baby was “the Messiah” seemed amazing to me. How could she have absorbed all that? Thinking about her, I realized it would be good for me to just trust that I probably would do jus ...

The 118th Pope of the Orthodox Church HH is now seated in his throne at the Grand Cathedral of St Mark
How honourable is our church, the Coptic Orthodox Church... I am so joyful for everything it stands for... A real living church in Christ our Savior... The highlights: 1. The wonderful humility, love, wisdom of Anba Bakhomious. 2. The intended unity expressed by the churches to one another. 3. This wonderful character of our pope His Holiness Pope Ava Tawadrous II...the lion of the see of St Mark. I see every good thing in him for our Church Congratulations Your Holiness pray for us.
Congratulations to our blessed Pope of the Coptic Orthodox Church, His Holiness Pope Tawadros II. May you sit on the throne on the See of St Mark for many blessed and fruitful years and just as he founded our church may our church continue to grow in love all around the world through your leadership. Never fear and may God's will always be done through you, His chosen and holy vessel. We love you and can't wait for you to visit us. God bless your service +

Coptic Orthodox Church is waiting for their 118th pope of Alexandria and patriarch of the see of St Mark, the seat of which has been vacant since Pope Shenouda III died last March. I don't have misty eyes today over the election--just a lot of fear over more taxes to pay for everything Obama has promised everyone. Jon's pay has gone down over $10,000.00 per year for the last 4 years & we don't have anymore to give! Oh well, maybe he'll just quit his job and we'll apply for medicaid & live just as well as we do now. Maybe he can apply for disability since so many are now doing so & getting it right away. It took me almost 10 yrs to finally get it--& those were very tough times indeed. If it hadn't been for St Mark's Episcopal Church I don't know what I would have done--they bought my meds, food, utility bills for several months. Thank you Father Murray & most of all, God, who says He will supply all our needs--He did--I wanted some things but they weren't Needs just wants. I wasn't married when my health failed so badly--Mom had passed & Daddy was in the Nursing Home at Senath & being an only child--well, there was no one to help me. Daddy has since passed--boy, how I MISS HIM ...
Images from Cairo's St Mark cathedral, where Bishop Tawardos has been chosen as the new pope of Egypt's Coptic Christians.
Last Saturday at St George's, Belleville. To my right in the picture is Bishop John Roth, my ELCA counterpart, and then Fr Dale Coleman, rector of St George's. To my left are Deacon Joan Coleman and Pastor Brian Robison, who leads the ELCA congregation of St Mark, which has shared facilities with St George's since 1982.
Um, seriously? ... EGYPT'S Christians elected a British-educated pharmacist as their Pope in a sumptuous ritual at Cairo's St Mark's Cathedral yesterday when a blindfolded altar boy, said to be guided by God, pulled his name out of a crystal chalice. Wow, shades of Monty Python ...Listen, strange women lyin' in ponds distributin' swords is no basis for a system of government. Supreme executive power derives from a mandate from the masses, not from some farcical aquatic ceremony. Or in this case. blindfolded altar boys pulling names randomly out of a crystal goblet ...
And the Coptic Christians have a new Pope! God grant many happy years to the new Pope Tawadros, 118th successor of St Mark!

The Orthodox Creed is being prayed now in the Grand Cathedral of St Mark in prior to the announcing 118th
GoodBye Mark McGwire, I don't understand why you would leave St. Louis to go to a city you have no affiliation with.
Why can't Barry Bonds show his face but Mark McGuire gets a pass?:
Mark McGwire leaving St. Louis Cardinals to become LA Dodgers hitting coach. (Cards have led NL in batting average in his 3 seasons).
Find beauty in the small things. The tiniest detail is often the true mark of excellence. A speck of beauty > a world of the unnoticed!!
May you always remember St. Louis, Mark McGwire. You took plenty of photos with your iPad. --
Walking down an empty St. Mark's is incredible.

Of all the pieces I’ve written, in all of my performance experience, this is easily the most-requested song of them all. I surely hope you enjoy this stirring live 2010 “Concert Of Hope” performance from Ft. Collins, CO.
It is truly soothing to listen to recordings of Compline from St. Mark's in Seattle. I could do it for hours to just relax and not worry about anything.
Every Pastor and every church, in my humble opinion, would be blessed to have a Mother Mary Woods (R.I.P.) to serve alongside. Radical Hospitality is who she was it was her life. She lived it, she embraced ; she owned it! Thanks be to God for the gift of Mother Woods! Joseph L. Giles your love preached that word from the Lord! Love you St. Mark! Thanks for being loving church family!
October 30, 2012--As Hurricane Sandy bore down on millions of people, the United Methodist Church was already helping them prepare, respond, and cope with their fear.
The bad thing about travelling? Being around people who mean you harm. My mom just lost her wallet to a pickpocket near st. mark's square--coincidentally dapit sa bridge of sighs. :(
"The final choice is surrendered to God via holy lot, allowing a blindfolded child to select the winning candidate Sunday in an altar lottery at St. Mark's Cathedral in Cairo." While the Copts use election to narrow down the field of candidates, the final choice is God's. Interesting way of doing business.

All ye Angels and Saints of God: pray for us. St. Celestine pray for us, St. Rita pray for us, St. Linus pray for us, St. Mark pray for us. Our Lady Queen of All Saints; pray for us.
I am very pleased with how our Bible study is growing on Sunday mornings - both spiritually and numerically. I can see how many times the readings on Sunday morning or throughout the week are often difficult to understand, and I often wonder how people can truly enjoy the mass if they do not compreh...
Thanks for sharing photos from your local UMC pumpkin patch!

Don't know why antibiotic makes me feel so tired! Must remember to drink water. Anyway the tooth has not tweaked since I started on it. So that is a sign the tooth indeed WAS getting infected! Probably have to get a root canal now. Oh well a thousand here a thousand there. What's money anyway. Why worry. Other than that Marty is coughing and spitting. Does it each morning after I give him his meds and start his food. Sometimes he does it all day long. I think he is gagging and trying to vomit. Am taking him to see his gastro doctor this afternoon to recheck that, he said he would "do something" if he was not better. Only reason it is better is he takes pills so he won't vomit. Or else he WOULD be vomiting. So is that better? I want to know WHYYY he is doing it. Because what if it is NOT his dysfunction, what if he has an ulcer big as his fist in there. Who knows! Think I am going to tell him today that he must scope him. Its the only way to know for sure. Tired of his guessing. Hay I can do THAT myself a ...
We implore for mercy of His Son, with the intercession of our Blessed Mother Mary...

Oops - hit the post button before I was finished. The pictures I posted are from Venice. Many are of the gondola ride with an accordion player and opera singer. The gorgeous building is Doge's Palace. The square and church is St. Mark's. The photos of the glass blower on Murano are poor quality because it was dark inside.
Beluzo earned her "golden ticket" for the upcoming tryouts by auditioning at Disneyworld.

So many Bushouse and Schreur kin, in-laws and total strangers paid respects over the last week. Steve clearly made an impact on hundreds of lives and through so many Christian and secular avenues. Thank you to all of you for your support, calls, letters, emails, FB comments and tears. Thank you to our long time friends, my Rector Mary Frens and husband Rick for making the trip and giving us support. Thank you to our friends at St John's and St Mark's Episcopal Churches. Thank you to my children for traveling long distances to show your love and support to Patt, Eve, Matt, Seth, Anne, Dawn and I and scores of first and second cousins that also made such an effort.
The volunteer work day this Saturday to rake the mulch on the playground at St. Mark has been canceled. We were able to find a company to do it for free for us! Thank you to everyone that was planning to come. Instead, have a GREAT Saturday with your family!

People of Faith who have inspired me: John Shaw, organist from St Mark's, Grenoside, loved to play hymns and sing to God even when there was no one but Jesus listening. Who inspires you?
Having a sober day today. Off for a Gondola ride in the Venetian, visit St Mark's Sq, then over to Caesar's to watch the Fall of Atlantis, pop in to Flamingo's to check on the wildlife, then back for dinner and a show at the Golden Nugget! Might sneak a nightcap and a few hands just before bed.

Nearly finished my Diploma in Community Services Work and applying to do a Grad Dip in Pastoral Counselling via distance education through Charles Sturt next year. The head of Theology at St Mark's in Canberra where the residentials are held said I should apply, not because I have done this Diploma, but because I have a Science degree with Honours and started a PhD! Go figure!

The sudden death Sunday of Dr. Leon M. Orton, 66, of Ashland, beloved physician and surgeon in the Plymouth-Ashland area for the past forty years came as a great shock to his hundreds of friends. He and Mrs. Orton had been to Wellesley, Massachusetts to attend the engagement party announcing the betrothal of Miss Janet C. Ballou to his son, Russell C. Orton and were en route home when he was stricken with a heart attack in Lexington, Mass. With him in the car were Mrs. Orton, Robert McGlone, who was driving, a life-long friend of the family, and Atty. William Batchelder of Plymouth. Funeral services were held Wednesday afternoon at two o'clock in St Mark's Episcopal Church in Ashland, with Rev. Arthur W. Leaker officiating. Burial was in Trinity Cemetery in Holderness, with Gammons Funeral Home in charge of arrangements. Members of the Masonic Lodge, employees of the Sceva Speare Memorial Hospital, Graduate Nurses Association, and medical associates of the Plymouth and Laconia Hospital attended the ser ...

Sensational home made cakes on sale at St Mark's/Gamble Hall, Bishop Road/City Gardens till one today.
Leaving for Saginaw tomorrow to bury my older sister Marie Johnson Bailey on Monday. Out everything she did for me growing up and she did a lot, the one thing that impacted my life the most was when I was in the 4th grade on the south side she taught me my prayers. She got down on her knees and told me to say "now lay me down to sleep, I pray the Lord my soul to keep, it should die before I awake I pray the Lord my soul to take" she told me after that to pray for anybody or anything, and talk to God like he is kneeling down right next to you and believe he hears your payer. I was a praying little kid every night, praying for family, friends, my teachers, and I watched God answer my prayers and I still pray the same way today like God is right next to me not a lot of fancy words just straight talk telling him how I feel. Praying for all my family, relatives and friends and God is still answering my prayers today I believe that God can do ANYTHING but there is no room for doubt St Mark 11.23-24 he can move ...

As well meaning as both Mitt Romney and President Obama may be, "Neither of these men, or the best minds around them, can ever cause the American economy to grow!" However, the Lord Jesus Christ gave us the answer to this problem in the gospel according to St. Matthew, chapter 6 vs 33. In the very near future, we will all see that true growth, and prosperity will only be produced from of the Kingdom of God; "Christians being led by the Holy Spirit, until the Lord Jesus Christ returns!" (St Mark 4)

Just finished watching Endeavor fly over Long Beach from St Mark's lawn. As a child of the 60's who had to suffer the "new math", who thrilled at the first moon landing and who grieved Columbia and Challenger, it is good to pause and reflect on our human aspirations. The Space Station lives on under international care and now the U.S. looks beyond low earth orbit to the planets. What wonders are yet to come?
