to quote gamecock radio " Line drive right field base hit. South Carolina has won the College World Series." (Wingo scored)
12 years ago this spring I watching Taylor Perkins play with his travel team Richmond Braves. We were playing a Prince George team. I think it was Prince George Gold but I'm not sure. There was a young man named Jackie Bradley Jr. playing for them and he was killing us. I was in Atlanta in 2007 where the 18U Braves were playing when Ray Tanner offered him a scholarship to play at South Carolina where he became MVP of the College World Series. Now I am sitting in my living room watching him play center field for the Boston Ref Sox. He just threw out one the fastest players in baseball trying to get to 3rd base on a fly ball. It was fun watching you play when you were 12 Jackie B and it is still fun.
Thousands of South Carolina fans celebrate the Gamecocks' College World Series win -
Go *** !! From mlb.com Top 10 Outfield Prospects: Jackie Bradley Jr., Red Sox: Part of two College World Series championship teams at South Carolina, Bradley Jr. earned a World Series ring as a rookie with the Red Sox after surprisingly making their Opening Day roster. A superb center fielder, he'll be a defensive upgrade over Jacoby Ellsbury, who left via free agency. Bradley Jr. is also an on-base machine who likely will be better than Ellsbury in that regard, too.
A few days after looking at 10 reasons South Carolina makes it to the College World Series, we look at six reasons the Gamecocks could fall short.

New uptown ballpark to bid for 2015 ACC tournament Last month, two Atlantic Coast Conference schools played in the College World Series. BB&T Ballpark, the new home of the Charlotte Knights minor-league franchise, hopes to host all 15 schools as soon as 2015. Dan Rajkowski, chief operating officer of the Knights, told me during a recent interview at the uptown stadium construction site that the team and city intend to bid for an ACC baseball tournament later this year. The Charlotte Sports Foundation, the nonprofit organizer and operator of the Belk Bowl and ACC football championship game here, will lead the bid campaign, Rajkowski said. Greensboro's NewBridge Bank Park, a 7,500-capacity stadium opened in 2005, hosts the ACC tournament next year. The conference has not made any site selections beyond 2014, ACC spokesperson Amy Yakola said. The Knights hosted the ACC tournament at their current home in Fort Mill in 2000 and 2001. South Carolina's all-but-endless Confederate flag controversy led to a refusa ...
Oregon State is headed back to the College World Series! Only 1 spot left. Who is going to get it? North Carolina or South Carolina? GO!
COLLEGE BASEBALL: They got a very impressive 50 wins this season, but UVA couldn't seal the deal in the Super Regionals, losing their series with Mississippi State 2-0. It's been a tough postseason for the national seeds. Six out of eight tickets to the College World Series have been punched and only one of them (LSU) is a national seed. It's been tough for the ACC as well. Eight teams from the conference made the tournament. Only NC State has clinched a spot in the College World Series. The only other team left, North Carolina has to play a decisive game 3 against South Carolina tomorrow.
College World Series-baseball, of course, but looking at those who have already punched their ticket for Omaha you would think it was going to be a basketball tournament---UCLA, Indiana, Louisville! If North Carolina tops South Carolina in the deciding game of their regional it will definitely have a basketball feel to the gathering. Pulling for Mississippi State and South Carolina to give the SEC three representatives in the eight-team series. Feel sorry for Florida State's Mike Martin, who year after year fields outstanding teams. His Seminoles were knocked out in the Supers by surprising Indiana. Sadly, Martin, who has brought many teams to Omaha, has never won a National Championship while at the helm in Tallahassee. Also sorry that Vanderbilt was upset by Louisville and not going to Nebraska. Vandy was ranked No. 1 most of the year, and again proves that oftentimes the best team does not win in the game of baseball. Too much can happen in the sport, a subpar performance, a bad hop, a bad call, etc.,e ...
So far UNC has won NCAA championships in Women's Soccer and Women's Lacrosse, and Duke has won the national title for Men's Lacrosse. Will the Tarheels add one more championship for NC with a win in the College World Series? The Diamond Heels had a rough win today over South Carolina. Help UNC's Colin Moran win the Golden Spike Award here.
An Angels prospect got catfished As the ace starter for back-to-back College World Series champion South Carolina, Michael Roth was a big name in the college baseball world before being drafted by the Angels last year. A big enough name to make him a catfishing victim, it turns out. Roth told Bill Shaikin of the Los Angeles Times about his experience, which started with a text message from someone in the summer of 2010: That started a stream of flattering texts and alluring phone calls from a woman Roth never had met, including the requisite visits that inevitably were canceled at the last minute. Roth said he sensed something fishy within a few weeks. He played along for a year, in the process discovering that three of his college teammates also had been in touch with the same woman, who claimed her name was Hope Porter. Roth apparently never figured out the real source behind the Porter identity, and he’s long since moved on. He also indicated that while he does feel some sympathy for Notre Dame lineb ...

The Sooners have hosted three NCAA Regionals under Golloway while appearing in the program's only Super Regional appearances (2006, 2010 and 2012) and making it back to the College World Series in 2010 for the first time since 1995. The Sooners posted the program's fourth straight 40-win regular season in 2012, a first since 1989, and finished fourth in the Big 12 standings while making the program's fifth straight NCAA postseason appearance (35th overall). The 2011 season ended at 41-19 and with Michael Rocha (second team) and Dillon Overton (freshman) collecting All-America honors, while a program-bes ...
Client Notes Congratulations to two former College Prospects of America clients - Zarley Zalewski and Kyle Helisek both of whom were selected in the MLB amateur draft. Zarley was drafted in the 40th round by the Pittsburgh Pirates and Kyle was chosen by the St. Louis Cardinals in the 30th round. Zarley is a 2012 grad and has a scholarship offer to Kent State University, the surprise team of this year’s College World Series. Kyle received a scholarship 4 years ago to Villanova. Rachel Pacholke, former client of Gary Kadow in Cleveland, has been named women’s volleyball coach at Mercyhurst Northeast in Pennsylvania. Rachel began in her collegiate career at the school before transferring to Southern Wesleyan in South Carolina, where she graduated in 2008. Mercyhurst Northeast is not a typical two-year community college. It is a private JC and tends to recruit higher academic kids than most community colleges. It is a branch campus of NCAA D-II Mercyhurst College and a member of NJCAA.

South Carolina is poised to name baseball coach Ray Tanner as its new AD tomorrow. Coach Chad Holbrook will become the new head baseball coach. If anybody deserves a head coaching position, its Coach Holbrook.in the last seven years as an assistant coach at North and South Carolina, he has been to six of the last seven College World Series tourneys in Omaha.Gamecock sports sure is a lot of fun these days.just ask those orange bellied *** in the upstate of SC! It's good to see Gerrit Cole pitch again. Last time I saw him he was in the process of losing the College World Series to South Carolina.

I'm so proud of my Arizona Wildcats for winning the College World Series yesterday against South Carolina. Bear Down Arizona!
I know few care, but my adopted team in Tucson and Will's school, the University of Arizona Wildcats just won the College World Series against South Carolina, winner of last two championships. Go Pac 12, go home SEC. Gotta get a National Championship T-shirt.

Old friends Ray Tanner and Andy Lopez meet again as South Carolina faces Arizona in College World Series finals:...
I am so proud to say that my Alma Mater,THE South Carolina Gamecocks will play for a Three - Pete in the College World Series against Arizona (NOT to be confused with The Arizona State Sun Devils whom I adore - for many reasons, but one is their play-by-play man. A truly extraordinary three-time Emmy award winning announcer by the name of TM HEALEY!). Please root for my beloved Gamecocks starting Sunday night in the best of three games. GO *** MY BLOOD RUNNETH GARNET!!!
my College World Series finals pick: South Carolina wins its third straight National Championship when it sweeps Arizona in the best of three series. You just cannot beat South Carolina twice to eliminate them. They have so many seniors who have been a huge part of the previous two championships. Michael Roth, Matt Price and Christian Walker know how to win and that gives some of the youngsters confidence.
Just got back from covering the East Texas Pump Jacks vs. Victoria Generals at lovely Driller Park. Good, crisp game (3-0 win by the Pump Jacks), and Kyle got to help out with batboy duties. He also got a box of Chicken Express and got to sit on the field with the team to watch the post game fireworks show. Now we are watching the end of Arkansas vs. South Carolina at the College World Series. Pretty good night right there.
Alabama won the National Championship (playing another SEC team LSU) in Football, Kentucky in Basketball and now we got Arkansas and South Carolina competing to go to the NCAA College World Series in baseball. Any question about the SEC being the best conference in the NCAA...Ohh yeah can't forget about the Roll Tide Girls Team wining a National Championship in Softball!
South Carolina and Arkansas meet tonight in the last Semi Final game of the 2012 College World Series in Omaha.Which team advances to Sunday's best of 3 National Championship series vs. Arizona?
Michael Roth pitched a two-hitter and two-time defending national champion South Carolina eliminated Kent State from the College World Series with a 4-1 victory on Thursday.
I cannot believe that i am saying this... I have to give Kent State's baseball team credit for their run to the College World Series. That run ended today with a 4-1 defeat at the hands of South Carolina. However there is some positive news here... It means that the voice of the Indians Tom Hamilton will be back on the call of Cleveland Indians Baseball tomorrow night.
:-(( Well, that ends it. Final score 4-1, a two-hitter for South Carolina with the last 22 Kent State batters retired in a row, with eight strikeouts and a complete game for South Carolina's pitcher, who faced only one batter over the minimum in a brilliant performance. Well, congratulations to the Golden Flashes for a great series in their first-ever College World Series appearance, even knocking off the country's number one ranked Florida State. South Carolina was going to be a challenge no matter what because they've won the CWS the last two years.

Today it is the Wildcats of Arizona vs the Seminoles of Florida State semi-finals of the NCAA College World Series. The Wildcats beat the Seminoles last Saturday 4-3 but the Seminoles worked their way through the losers portion of the bracket to earn this matchup. A Arizona win will put the Wildcats in the National Championship round which could be Arkansas or South Carolina. A loss will force another game tomorrow with the Seminoles since it is a double-elimination tournament. GO WILDCATS!!
The Winking Lizard Tavern hosted a party for baseball fans wanting to watch the Golden Flashes take on South Carolina in the College World Series, but were left empty-handed when the game was canceled because of rain in Omaha, Neb.
Kent State's College World Series game with South Carolina has been postponed until tomorrow. The game will be played at Noon et in Omaha.
The Golden Flashes will look to add to their string of late-inning, one-run victories — or maybe make it a little easier on themselves — when they take on two-time defending national champion South Carolina tonight at 8 at TD Ameritrade Park.
Oh well. Kent State U. and University of South Carolina were postponed because of rain this evening in the College World Series. Both have a loss, so the loser goes home in the double elimination tournament. Kent knocked of the top seeded team, Florida, in an upset. Help me cheer on the Golden Flashes to victory!
Kent St continues their journey in the College World Series tonight vs South Carolina tonight. Goodluck to the Zips, representing the MAC very well!
Kind of rooting for South Carolina tonight in the College World Series, that way Florida State can beat them to win the Title and I can harass Erik Nielsen and Jaymie Amos Nielsen.
hard to believe but I watched 90% of an NBA game last night, the other 10% I had to check in on the College World Series, our of the last 6 teams there, 3 were SEC, go figure, still have 2 of the 4 there, tonight South Carolina vs Kent State,
"The Gamecocks had won two straight National Championships and acquired an aura and a mystique not seen in college baseball since Darwin Barney's O-State Ballaz (better known as Oregon State's back-to-back 2006-2007 champions). But mystique and aura weren't enough Monday night against Arkansas' major league-quality pitching. Behind righthanders Ryne Stanek and Barrett Astin and a pair of two-out RBIs, the Razorbacks beat South Carolina 2-1 to improve to 2-0 at the 2012 College World Series."--John Manuel, Editor, Baseball America
Kent State Golden Flashes defeated and eliminated seed Florida in the NCAA College World Series last night. Tomorrow is South Carolina (winner of the last two CWS). Wearing the KSU ball cap proudly today @ FT Bragg. It was a sweet victory as Florida eliminated the NC State Wolfpack in the Super Regionals. In a perfect world Kent State would play the NC State Wolfpack for the CWS title. GO FLASHES!
Arkansas Razorbacks beat South Carolina 2 - 1 breaking their 22 game playoff winning streak to go 2 - 0 in the College World Series.
announces "Every Hog has its day, and after escaping against Baylor in the Super Regional the Arkansas Razorbacks will have their day to try to rain on South Carolina's potential 3 Peat Parade. However, the Gamecocks know a thing or two about downing other SEC teams as they put down Seed Florida in the CWS opening round. A win for Arkansas would snap Carolina's 22 game win streak, and a loss would send them spiraling to the Losers Bracket. A Carolina win puts them one win away from the College World Series Final, It's SOUTH CAROLINA! its Arkansas! This is the S-E-C at the College World Series."
my Monday picks for the College World Series: Florida eliminates Kent St. and South Carolina defeats Arkansas. Florida bounces back after a disappointing opening loss to South Carolina. Then, can anybody beat South Carolina in Omaha? Well to do so I think it has to come from a team not in the SEC because those teams don't have fond memories against them. South Carolina beats Florida in last year's finals and does the little things to beat a more talented Florida team on Saturday. They are a classic team and program right now on an unbelievable run. Been a fun World Series though
South Carolina (46-17) returns to action on Monday night at the College World Series against Arkansas (45-20). First pitch is set for 9 p.m. ET with the game televised live on ESPN2 with Mike Patrick, Orel Hershiser ... Myra and John, who should I pull for late on Monday night.lets see. Go ***
well went 3-1 in picking the winners for the first two days of the College World Series. And the lone loss went 12 innings when Florida State lost to Arizona. It looks like South Carolina and UCLA are on a collision course to meet in the final and a rematch of the 2010 championship series. I got FSU over Stony Brook and UCLA over Arizona tomorrow
Arkansas doesn't seem to be getting any respect at the College World Series. In order, coaches picked: Florida (25) FSU (11) Arizona (8) Stony Brook (7) South Carolina and UCLA (6) Kent State (3) Arkansas got no votes
South Carolina is going for three straight national titles and Florida is the No. 1 seed. Yet all the talk at the College World Series is about Stony Brook.
Want to thank Bucky, Michael and Lang for combining to overcome the College World Series "Mascot Challenge" on The Drive! The guys collectively guessed the nicknames of the eight participants: Arizona, Arkansas, Florida, Florida State, Kent State, South Carolina, Stony Brook, UCLA. Who are you rooting for in Omaha?
Today on The Drive with B.J. Bennett, we will have our weekly chats with former UGA DL Gerald Anderson and former GSU DB Derek Heyden. Former BHS Pirate Jay Brown, who won a College World Series ring with South Carolina, will preview the CWS. New Orleans Saints CB Laron Scott will be rescheduled from yesterday. Tim Johnson of Johnson's Outdoors will check in as well. Call: 264-9977.
OMAHA, Neb. - After a day of travel and relaxing, South Carolina, and the other seven teams in the College World Series, gear up for their first big day at TD Ameritrade Park.
Wo *** ..The college World Series will be under way this Friday.here's the lineup...Stony Brook, UCLA, Arizona, Florida St., Kent State, Arkansas, South Carolina and Florida.Of course my team to cheer for will be Stony Brook as this is their first time ever to come to the College World Series...btw they are from Long Island New York.Omaha will no doubt adopt them too as they usually do all the first timers.I am so excited...love, love, love the College World Series.Omaha we Rock
Fans converge at Carolina Stadium in Columbia, SC for the South Carolina Gamecocks team send-off to the College World Series. Coach Ray Tanner says he hopes ...
As a person of the Northlands/Midwest I am just going to say go Kent State (my mom's Alma Mater) baseball. Good luck in the College World Series against the rest of the SEC based bracket--Arkansas, South Carolina, and Florida.
Arkansas, Florida and South Carolina make it to the College World Series. Question Can the SEC clinch it's fourth straight World Series Title? Something tells me that history is doomed to repeat itself. Let's see how many National Championships the SEC has this year: Football? Check --- Softball? Check --- Basketball? Check --- Track & Field (Indoor AND Outdoor)? Check --- Tennis? Check --- Golf? Check --- Baseball? To be determined...which conference is the best in the business? You be the judge.
Stud of the Day: The Sea Wolves of Stony Brook for taking down LSU in Baton Rouge to reach Omaha and the College World Series, these guys can play and Pedro's opening line on CWS is Stony Brook vs South Carolina in finals, LSU is singing today, "In French Baton Rouge might mean Red Stick but to me it means broken heart"
Arkansas, South Carolina, and Florida make the College World Series. The SEC is taking over in pretty much every sport. 3 time defending baseball National Champions, 6 time defending football National Champions, defending mens basketball champion and defending softball National Champions.
SEC gets 3 teams into the College World Series. Florida, South Carolina (defending 2X defending champs), and Arkansas. SEC!...SEC!.SEC! Of course, I would NOT want to be the team that has to play FSU early on. Can you say 35 runs in 2 Super Regional games??? :-O Congrats to relative unknowns Stony Brook and Kent State for getting to Omaha!
2010: College World Series first game: Oklahoma 4 South Carolina 3. SC has not lost a post season game (19 of them) since then. Who do we play in the 2012 Super Regional? Oklahoma is coming to Columbia.
The South Carolina Gamecocks baseball team represents the University of South Carolina in NCAA Division I college baseball. South Carolina has perennially been one of the best teams in college baseball since 1970, posting 28 NCAA Tournament appearances, 10 College World Series berths, and two National Championships: 2010 and 2011. Carolina is one of six schools in NCAA history to win back-to-back titles. Since joining the Southeastern Conference in 1992, the team has competed in the Eastern division. Ray Tanner is the current head coach, and he has guided the program to two consecutive National Championships, three SEC titles, one SEC tournament title, six division titles, five College World Series appearances, and thirteen straight NCAA Tournaments (longest current streak in the SEC). The Gamecocks currently hold two NCAA records for postseason success: the most consecutive NCAA tournament wins (18) and the most consecutive wins in the CWS record (11); both streaks are still active. The team plays its ** ...
SNHU Baseball team won the NCAA East Regional title. Headed to South Carolina this afternoon for the D2 college World Series! Fantastic Job!!
