Carla Jecha WHERE DID MY FITNESS JOURNEY BEGIN? In February 2006, I was in the obese category and desperate to make changes in my life. I went to my doctor in hopes of having gastric bypass surgery. She turned me down flat due to the many side effects. She suggested that I try the South Beach Diet. I grudgingly went to buy the book, but when I got home, I had a message that a group of women from my area were joining Weight Watchers the following Monday and wondered if I wanted to carpool. I made the commitment on February 6, 2006 to lose 125 pounds. Over the next year, I did lose the 125 pounds. I managed to do it by counting points, walking, and exercise videos. However, with the weight, I also lost muscle. I was very thin, old-looking and frail. In the course of the next months, I returned to old eating habits and the weight crept back. I tried to keep going to Weight Watchers, but it just did not work for me anymore. In the next 2 years, I put back 50 pounds. In 2010, I decided to try a per ...

Thank you all for the likes and support...I never thought I'd be trying to lose weight...I was incredibly skinny for most of my life, and only weighed 150 pounds when I moved to Hawaii 27 years ago. Gained 100 lbs more here, (hey, it was only 3-4 pounds a year!) until a couple of weeks ago. Huge thanks to Doug, for being the pioneer and doing Weight Watchers last fall, and for nudging me to do it with him again...I would never just do this on my own! In the last two weeks, I've had duck leg confit (2X), spaghetti squash, steak (2X Chuck favorite, most flavorful steak) roast chicken, salmon, 2 Godiva truffles, oranges, bananas, sauteed baby spinach (2X), ice cream, ahi poke, lots of mushrooms, zucchini, broccoli, and cauliflower, all delicious. No butter, cream or cheese; no bread, and just a tiny bit of pasta (orzo), rice, and potatoes. A palpable improvement in energy, and one belt notch so far!
In the words of Bro Ed.Are ya on a diet? Yep 3, South Beach, Atkins, and Weight Watchers.didn't get enough food on the first 2!!!
"Sweet potatoes are high in fiber, Vitamin A, Vitamin C, Vitamin B6, potassium and manganese. They can also help stabilize blood sugar, which means they're a good choice for diabetics. They're relatively low in calories for all of the nutritional power they pack, at approximately 95 calories each and have a low glycemic index in spite of their sweetness. Both Weight Watchers and the South Beach Diet have recommended sweet potatoes, roasted in a little coconut oil rather than fried, and doctors are recommending them for diabetics."
