South Africa football captain Senzo Meyiwa shot dead South Africa’s football captain Senzo Meyiwa has died after being shot during a burglary, police say. He was reportedly attacked after men entered his girlfriend’s house in Vosloorus, south of Johannesburg. His agent described him as a humble man from a tough background who had become a “hero in everyone’s eyes”. The 27-year-old was the goalkeeper for Orlando Pirates and had played in South Africa’s last four Africa Cup of Nations qualifiers. On Saturday, he was in action for his club, when they progressed to the semi-finals of the South African League Cup, beating Ajax Cape Town 4-1. n a statement, the South African Police Service said two men had entered the house, around 20:00 (18:00 GMT), demanding mobiles phones and valuables. A third man remained outside. All three fled on foot after shots were fired. South Africa's national soccer goalkeeper and captain Senzo Meyiwa has been shot dead by burglars during a break-in, a killing that shocked the country and turned the spotlight once again on gun violence here. At an emotional news conference on Monday, Meyiwa's colleagues paid tribute to the 27-year-old, who was hit by a single round in the chest on Sunday night as he confronted two intruders at the home of actress and singer Kelly Khumalo. Meyiwa, who was shot in Vosloorus township southeast of Johannesburg, was dead on arrival at hospital, police said. His death highlighted the problem of gun violence in South Africa only days after Paralympic sprinter Oscar Pistorius was jailed for five years for shooting dead his girlfriend Reeva Steenkamp last year. This weekend's Johannesburg derby between Soweto giants Kaizer Chiefs and Orlando Pirates - the club Meyiwajoined as a 13- year-old and ended up leading - was postponed as a mark of respect. The derby is usually played in front of 90 000 fans. For those who don't watch Super Diski you should know that this individual played a crucial role in South African football. After having a fantastic season last time around he was awarded for his great input into the game by being selected to represent his country in 3 matches where he played a big role. He also captained his national team showing that he had the leadership qualities to lead even the greatest talents South African football had to offer. He tragically dead yesterday leaving the hearts of Orlando Pirates fans and the people of South Africa broken. South Africa will miss you. Diski will miss you. Rest in Peace Senzo Meyiwa
Senzo Meyiwa!!! Rest in peace!!! Orlando Pirates lost a goalkeeper, Bafana Bafana lost a goalkeeper, South Africa lost a goalkeeper and a son. South African soccer fans lost a goalkeeper, idol, hero, role model goalkeeper and a talent. The wife and children lost a loved one. The parents lost a son. South Africa needs good and reliable citizens who have eyes and ears to assist the police to bring the killers to book and be prosecuted. People in Gauteng used to 'know nothing, see nothing, hear nothing' in the past. Today's Gauteng people I hope they see, hear and help. May God help you, the reliable witnesses to help out.
Like a gardener plants his seeds with passion, watering them in the morning and the afternoon with high-hopes and dreams...that one of the good days the seed will grow, blossom and bear fruits for the gardener and even society.Doctor Irvin Khoza was the 1st to have tasted how sweet the fruit from the Meyiwa tree was,and the nation had a feel too of how the rough-diamond from the Meyiwa mine was! Suddenly a tragedy stroke and came lurking, robbing us our Senzo Meyiwa who was now a finished material.Ripe and ready to hit the ground running, when we started enjoying ourselves with the Meyiwa seeded fruit too.Enjoying the cleansheets kept in his recent Bafana games, his leadership skills(sighs)now he is sadly lost but will certainly forever lives-on in our hearts and memory boxes.May God have mercy and let his soul rest in peace...You-nique da-poet (Khosi fan) My condolences to The Meyiwa Family,Orlando Pirates Football Club,South Africa, myself and The Soccer Fratenity as a whole!

Police have offered a reward of nearly 153,000 rands (£8,700) for information that leads to the arrest of the three men, who fled the scene on foot. It is believed the 27-year-old was with girlfriend and South African popstar Kelly Khumalo when the intruders stormed the house located 20 miles from Johannesburg. One of the men is reported to have pointed a gun at Miss Khumalo, leading to an altercation that ended with the killing of Meyiwa. According to one report, one of the armed men demanded Meyiwa's mobile phone before firing a single shot into his chest. All three men left the scene after the shot was fired. Richter told their official website, “The Chiefs setup is professional. The facilities are similar to what you will find in Europe. You have the best opportunity to grow as a leading club in Africa.” “Stuart’s a quality coach, and I knew that he’d be great for Chiefs. Nahayo has not joined Pirates Valery Nahayo’s representative says talks of the defender having joined Orlando Pirates are far off. Reports on social media claim that the Former Kaizer Chiefs man – who in March told KickOff.com of his desire to return to the PSL – has penned a deal with the Buccaneers. But his representative Miguel Paiva tells KickOff.com that it is just transfer talk and that they recently met with his Belgian club regarding a possible move to another European club. The Burundian, whose current deal runs until June 2015, first arrived in South Africa in the 2004/05 season with Jomo Cosmos, where he played over 100 games before joining the Amakhosi.

NGELE WANTS EUROPE - MAKAAB Orlando Pirates public relations officer has refused to shed light on rumours that his team is after Botswana export to South Africa, Mogakolodi 'Tsotso' Ngele. Mickey Modisane said in an interview that he was not in position to deny or confirm that the Soweto-based Buccaneers were after the left-footed star, who recently won the Telkom Knock Out Player of the Tournament. Quizzed if he did not have any ambition to see Tsotso playing for Pirates, he pointed out that they recruited players based on the needs analysis. On other issues, Modisane hailed Botswana players plying their trade in South Africa, describing them as good and solid. He said one of the players that he once worked with, Mogogi Gabonamong had proved his mettle in South Africa. Modisane said Gabonamong was a solid defender with a good holding capacity. Although Modisane was cagey with information, BOPA was reliably informed that Orlando Pirates was scheduled to meet with Ngele’s agent, Mike Makaab on June 6, bu ...
-LOCAL NEWS- * Mamelodi Sundowns midfielder Thamsanqa Sangweni may again find himself out on loan next season, as his chances of playing for Pitso Mosimane have diminished. "He's a talented player. The one for the future for sure, but if you look at the number of quality players in his position then you can understand why he could be loaned out again next season," the source told Goal. * Knowledge Musona’s representatives ProSport International are still looking to place the striker with a European team. If that fails, Musona is set to continue playing for Chiefs in the 2014/15 season. “Knowledge has said that if he stays in South Africa, it can only be at Kaizer Chiefs,” Makaab adds. * League champions Mamelodi Sundowns have confirmed that they will be heading off to West Africa again for a pre-season tour. * Orlando Pirates have made extending defender, Siyabonga Sangweni’s contract a top priority, ahead of other targets Valery Nahayo and Buhle Mkhwanazi. * Supersport United are hopeful they can ...
KAA Gent defender Valery Nahayo is open to a move back to the PSL, with Supersport United or Orlando Pirates likely to be his next destination. Goal can confirm The Former Kaizer Chiefs player struggled to command a regular spot in the Gent starting line-up during this past season. Nahayo could only make 10 appearances in the Jupiler Pro League. Goal contacted his agent Miguel Paiva, who spoke exclusively to us about the Burundi international's current situation at the Belgian club. "At the moment, its up to the club to decide his immediate future. But the PSL could be an option. Everything will be clear very soon," Paiva told Goal. The 30-year-old former Burundi captain enjoyed his stay at Amakhosi between 2008 and 2011, winning the 2008 MTN Cup as well as the Telkom Knockout Cup double in 2010. He was then sold to the Belgian club in 2011. If Gent decide to offload the tall defender, he won't be short of admirers in South Africa. Fatau Dauda (Orlando Pirates) Age 29; 16 caps. First choice last year for Ghana at the African Nations Cup finals but since warned he would not make the World Cup trip unless he gets more regular club action. His problem is exacerbated by a move last July to South Africa where he has played just two league games for Orlando Pirates and lost his place in the Black Stars’ line-up. Rumours coming from within SAFA say that Ruud Krol has joined the list of candidates for the Bafana Bafana job. Krol, the former Dutch legendary player who won 83 caps for his country, is a Former Orlando Pirates coach, and was recently dismissed from his job at Esperance in Tunisia, where despite winning the league, he lost his job after a second loss in the Caf Champions League. What counts in Krol’s favour is that he has experience in South Africa and Africa, has won silverware, and has international experience, after a brief stint in charge of Tunisia, while he was also Egypt's coach in the nineties. The SAFA NEC meeting, where the Bafana coach is on the agenda, began on Saturday morning, and it is expected that a decision will be made, though the choice may not be announced yet. Sources within the SAFA ranks stated that they have also had informal talks with Nigeria’s Stephen Keshi and Iran’s current coach Carlos Queiroz. Queiroz remains a strong candidate, however it is believed that him sign ...

One last chance for us – Jele 10 Apr 2014 Happy Jele described the match against Mamelodi Sundowns on the weekend as the teams’ last chance to salvage their season. Jele was speaking at a Press conference this afternoon at the Premier Soccer League offices, ahead of the Nedbank Cup Quarter Final tussle with Sundowns on Saturday evening. He explained to a group of journalists at the packed PSL auditorium that Orlando Pirates will face Saturday’s clash at Loftus Stadium like a Cup final, as they intend to reach their fourth consecutive final in the current campaign. “We lost three finals already and this is the last chance for us to win something. It has been hard but we put ourselves in this situation; we cannot complain. "We won trebles and had to represent South Africa in the Champions League – we knew it would be hard and unfortunately from that competition, we have not had a great run in our domestic league. “But that is in the past. We have Sundowns to focus on… we have to win the game a ...
Dear Kaizer Chiefs supporters, I'm not going to say sorry for your team for being eliminated in the PRELIMINARY STAGES of the African Champions League. I didn't trust you to go all the way in any case. Your team is so predictable, playing the same squad week in and week out, playing long balls to Musona all the time. You haven't even tasted what it is to play in the Champions League, you haven't even played the African giants like Al Ahly, Zamalek, TP Mazembe, etc, yet you were beaten by a mediocre team AS Vita Club in the preliminary stages nogal. You blame the referee, but when we did so last year we were like cry babies. You were laughing from ear to ear when we Orlando Pirates were beaten in the FINALS of the same competition last season. But so far I'm happy to say Orlando Pirates is still the best team to have represented South Africa in the African Champions League by winning it in 1995, and winning the African Club Super Cup in 1996 and reaching the finals in 2013. I'm not feeling any pain for you ...

Nedbank Cup takes centre stage in SA By Graeme Jackson The 2014 Nedbank Cup resumes in South Africa this weekend, with the last 16 round kicking off in Cape Town on Friday evening when Santos host Orlando Pirates at Athlone Stadium. The People’s Team are two-time winners of the National Cup and have caused the Buccaneers problems in cup competitions in the past, meaning Vladimir Vermezovic’s side will have to recover quickly from their Soweto Derby loss to Kaizer Chiefs if they are to avoid slipping up on this potential banana skin. Saturday’s action sees a repeat of the 2010 Nedbank Cup Final when AmaZulu welcome Bidvest Wits to Durban for an afternoon kick-off. The Clever Boys crushed Usuthu 3-0 in that final four years ago, which was also the first competitive match played at the refurbished FNB Stadium. With home advantage on their side this time, AmaZulu will be looking to send Gavin Hunt’s side packing. Two further all-PSL clashes on Saturday see Platinum Stars, who are chasing a domestic cu ...
IS THE South African Premier League HAVING A NEGATIVE EFFECT ON AFRICAN FOOTBALL? This week we ask if the South African PSL is having a negative effect on African football as a whole. Big clubs in South Africa are signing many of Africa's rising stars but often failing to give them enough game time. For example, Ghana goalkeeper Fatau Dauda was dropped for a recent international friendly after failing to hold down a first team jersey at Orlando Pirates. On the other hand, players who do move to South Africa often become physically fitter and often earn more money. What do you think – is the way that South African clubs are attracting top players good for the standard of play on the continent?

Bafana Bafana have suffered two major blows ahead of the much anticipated international friendly against five-times world champion Brazil on Wednesday evening. Team captain Itumeleng Khune and Crystal Palace midfielder Kagisho Dikgacoi have been ruled out due to injury. Orlando Pirates keeper Senzo Meyiwa has been called up to replace Khune. The Good News is that star player Thulani Serero will be arriving in South Africa this evening, despite doubts about his fitness. Two other overseas-based players, Anele Ngcongca and Daylen Klaasen, will also be arriving this evening.

Since Roger De Sa resigned from the job, Eric Tinkler has been holding the fort, but Soccer Laduma can confirm that the Former Kaizer Chiefs mentor, 'VV', has been given the job. Commenting on the club's website he said, "I have unfinished business in South Africa. Orlando Pirates, a giant in African football, is offering me an opportunity to fulfill a dream of a lifetime. I am grateful for the opportunity. I have had to study Orlando Pirates very closely from the other side. I am therefore not coming into an unknown environment. It should help because I know the supporters expect me to hit the deck running.”added Vladimir Vermezovic. Orlando Pirates Chairman, Dr. Irvin Khoza, had this to say: “VV is not new to the South African condition. His hunger and discipline is impressive. I Prefer Europe – Uzoenyi Rangers International of Enugu winger, Chrisantus Ejike Uzoenyi has opened up on his targets in the transfer market, with a confession that he felt no qualms about missing out on a deal in South Africa, as his sight is on playing in Europe instead. Although the 2014 Championship of African Nations (CHAN) most valuable player acknowledged that his initial stint in Europe, with Stade Rennes of France ended abruptly because he was not able to cope with the cold weather, he admits it would still be better for him to seek a return rather than opt for time in South Africa. Online media reports indicate that seven South Africa clubs are eager to sign the former Heartland of Owerri and Gateway United of Abeokuta fleet-footed star, with Orlando Pirates, Supersport United and Mamelodi Sundowns leading the way. Also showing interest in the 25-year-old player’s signature are Ajax Cape Town, Mpumalanga Black Aces, Platinum Stars and Kaizer Chiefs, but they may all end up disappointed, as ...

Playing as a centre-foward converted from midfield, Lota earned plaudits in Zambia with the Press nicknaming him 'The Menace' for his scoring exploits during stints with several clubs that included Zanaco, Konkola Blades, Nchanga Rangers and Kabwe Warriors. But in South Africa Lota enjoyed cult hero status when he donned the Orlando Pirates shirt in which his 23 goals scored in all competitions during the 1999/2000 season is still a record. The 23 goals are a record for the most goa ...
Kaizer Chiefs have point to prove in Champions League South Africa's Kaizer Chiefs are feeling the pressure to do well as the Champions League kicks off this weekend after rivals Orlando Pirates reached last year's final. Chiefs return to the competition after a nine-year hiatus as South Africa's representative and start their campaign on Saturday with a home tie in the first leg of their first round encounter with Black Africa from neighbouring Namibia. After Pirates's success last year, and a sudden upsurge of interest in pan-African competition from usually haughty South African fans, Kaizer Chiefs coach Stuart Baxter says he hopes his side will not be burdened by expectations. "We do think that Pirates have raised the bar for South Africa and we have a duty (to try and emulate them) but it is not an obligation that is weighing us down. The most important thing is we have to play, we have to represent the club and everybody else," the Chiefs coach told BBC sport. "We do feel the pressure but I'm hoping ...
• Shun sentiments, use best Eagles• Not too impressed by Eagles’ CHAN outing Former Nigerian International, Willy Okpara has urged Super Eagles Coach Stephen Keshi to parade the best legs anywhere he could find them for the coming World Cup. Okpara, who is the goalkeeper trainer with his former club, Orlando Pirates of South Africa, said the Eagles handler should try and write his name in gold by parading the best players for the competition that will aid good performance and participation of the country in the world’s most popular tournament. Okpara, who watched the third place match on Saturday, blamed the Nigerian team for not utilising the advantage of one man down from the Ghanaian side which caused the team the final ticket of the competition, He said the same lapses were almost repeated in the third place match against Zimbabwe before Chinonso Obiozor scored the lone goal that won the match for Nigeria. “I want Stephen Keshi to work hard as he has been doing to search through all the nook ...
CLUBLESS Chipolopolo midfielder Isaac Chansa says people will know about his next career move in a fortnight. Chansa was offloaded by Chinese side Henan Jianye in 2012. "I am not saying anything over my future. People will soon know what next, maybe in the next two weeks," Chansa said in an interview after a training session with Zanaco on Wednesday afternoon. Chansa told online publication kickoff.com that he was still interested in playing in the South African Premier League should another opportunity arise. "If possible I can come and play in the PSL," Chansa said. "There is no doubt that I will soon be playing football again. People will know where I am once I start playing again because I still want to play football again." Chansa played for South Africa's Orlando Pirates in 2004 after moving from Power Dynamos. In 2007, he moved to Swedish outfit Helsingborgs IF. Chansa later returned to Pirates in 2010 before signing for Henan in 2012. However, his contract was terminated a

Former Ghanaian Goal Keeper Ali Jarah says Fatau Dauda will perform magic to keep his No. 1 position for the Black Stars. The ex Ashanti Gold shot stopper has not been in post for Orlando Pirates in South African since July 2013. With barely six months for the 2014 World Cup in Brazil, the spot for the No. 1 in goalpost for the Black Stars goes to wire as Coach Kwesi Appiah only features active players. The ex -Ashanti Gold Shot stopper is currently the first choice goalkeeper for Ghana after a fantastic display at Afcon 2013 in South Africa, but his move to Orlando Pirates has kept him dormant since July 2013 as Coach Roger De Sa claims Dauda’s performance do not merit a first team action. The likes of Adam Kwarasey of Strømsgodset, Razak Braimah of Córdoba, as well as Richard Olele Kingston of Balıkesirspor, will fight for a place in Kwesi Appiah's Final squad for Brazil with emerging Stephen Adams of Aduana, currently manning the post for the local stars in the Chan tournament. Ghana will appear . ...

Jali leaving Pirates for 'higher level' Posted: 24 January 2014 Time: 01:34 pm Andile Jali's agent Mike Makaab has confirmed that Orlando Pirates have sold the midfielder to Belgian club KV Oostende, and feels the move will take his career to the next level. Jali had been in discussions with Pirates over a new contract, but after failing to agree terms, the club accepted a fee for his services. Makaab believes Jali is making the right career move, as the Belgian Jupiler League has a great track record of improving African players. "Oostende have been bought out by new, wealthy owners and we, at Prosport International, share with the new owners the vision to build Andile Jali up as a player and enable him to move on to an even higher level in Europe," Makaab tells KickOff.com . SPORTS NEWS UPDATE WITH Babrah Ayebale Cranes striker Yunus Ssentamu who had an impressive performance during the CHAN championships in South Africa, left more than 10 clubs in South Africa fighting for his signature. Ssentamu revealed that he needs a lot of advice before choosing which team to join. However, Micho says he will not allow Ssentamu to join a club he (Micho) has not endorsed to sign him. “The player is still young and needs parental guidance,” Micho stated. Keizer chiefs and Mamelod Sundown are among the clubs in South Africa chasing the senior six leaver’s signature. According to reports, Orlando Pirates may lead the chart in signing Ssentamu. Some scouts, according to player, are willing to get him a deal in Europe too. Ssentamu has played less than 10 games in FUFA Super League being his debut season and he has scored five goals so far.
I wish all of us Orlando Pirates fan will one day accept that Itumeleng Khune is waaay better goalkeeper than Senzo Meyiwa and all other goalkeepers in South Africa. Khune's ball distribution is second best to none.

The Midweek Sun BOTSWANA STAR PLAYERS AT IT AGAIN Remember how Joel Mogorosi and Boitumelo Mafoko absconded from South Africa's Orlando Pirates to come back to Botswana when the club had registered them? Now it is Jerome Ramatlhakwane, Dirang Moloi and Phenyo Mongala who have disappeared from DRC's Don Bosco, a club that signed them from Mochudi Centre Chiefs. The players' whereabouts are unknown at their club that is engaged in a Diamond Challenge against Power Dynamos, Zesco United and Mamelodi Sundowns in Zambia. The players, much like Mogorosi and Mafoko then, say they want a speedy return to their home country as they are not happy at their club. The three players want a return to Magosi who on the other hand seem weary to encourage their move. The Chiefs' management do not want to be dragged into the matter, saying the trio belongs to the DRC club. The players are reported to be lying low in Botswana. Among their discomforts is their safety in what has been known as a war country, as well as their g ...

Dauda has been under intense pressure to consolidate his goalkeeping positon in the competitive fray of the senior national team in a situation where the Black Stars coach, Kwasi Appiah is spoilt for choice. Over the past weeks the situation has become compelling enough for the 28-year-old goal tender, following emerging reports that his strong rivals, Adams Kwarasey and Spain-based Razak Ibrahima, are in top shape and can make a strong case to dislodge him. Fatau wants Orlando Pirates of South Africa to preferably loan him back to his mother club or any other club as long as that will guarantee him a regular playing time ahead of the World Cup in Brazil this summer. Madiba: Our fallible leader 8 December 2013 9:55 Zama Ndlovu about Mandela’s mistakes never seems to be welcomed, but we cannot forget that he was also a flawed man, writes Zama Ndlovu Retired statesman, prisoner and once-intimidating boxer Nelson Mandela is dead. There was nothing left for Madiba to do but die. He was frail, wheelchair-bound and the gaps between his hospital admissions were getting shorter, while the stays were getting longer as his ailments became more serious. I was seven when he appeared from what seemed like nowhere. Like many South Africans, I did not know about the international campaign for his freedom until some weeks before he was released unconditionally from prison on February 11 1990. Suddenly, formerly banned images of him sprang up everywhere. Happiness and hope engulfed black South Africa. On the day of his release, our elders were so glued to their screens that even a Cup final between bitter Soweto soccer rivals, Orlando Pirates and Kaizer Chiefs, would have taken plac ...

Revealed: The Five Nominees for the Goal South Africa Player of the Year After showcasing the best SA players for Bafana, abroad in European leagues and at home in the PSL; it's time to unveil the official shortlist for fans to vote for their winner By Ignat Manjoo 02 Dec 2013 Selecting just five players in this final list of South Africa's top players for 2013 has proven more difficult than one could imagine. There's a number of SA players performing admirably across Europe, but local-based stars in the Premier Soccer League (PSL) are proving that they can match our players abroad. This was evident in the large number of PSL names chosen by Bafana Bafana coach Gordon Igesund in his national squads this year. Then there's the epic run of Orlando Pirates in flying all the way to the Caf Champions League Final, confirming the improvement in standard of the South African league. We at Goal wanted to list about four stand-out Bucs players, including the outstanding Andile Jali who many believe, (along with Ch ...
Yes we have qualified for the football mundial and our happiness is justifiable. But we have some homeworks to do. One of such is to work on Fatau Dauda. How can Ghana's first choice shotstopper be a third choice in a team in a Rugby nation like South Africa? I mean how? What precipitated the call for the Italian FA to decree, some tine ago, that only players plying their trade in Italy will be concidered for national team call up? Was it not because they wanted to give them more playing time? Just check the first goal we conceeded and you will realise how match-rusty our numero un goalkeeper has becoming warming the benches of Orlando Pirates. We need all our players active with about six months to the mundial and we cant afford to leave Dauda to rust like that. We can force his agents to apply for him to be sent on loan to another club, preferrably a Ghanaian club or the GFA should buy him out of that contract. We need all our men active!
An improved second half showing saw South Africa ease to a 3-0 victory over COSAFA rivals Swaziland in their international friendly played at the Somhlolo National Stadium in Lobamba on Friday night. After a lackluster first 45 minutes that ended 0-0, South Africa raced out the blocks in the second period and goals from Reneilwe Letsholonyane, Bongani Zungu and captain Thabo Nthethe handed them a comfortable victory in the end. Igesund recalled Orlando Pirates defender Rooi Mahamutsa to the starting line-up for the first time in four years and later gave Lennox Bacela his first international cap off the bench. Bafana might have been ahead inside the opening 30 seconds when Kermit Erasmus headed wide after ghosting in between two defenders. There was a scare at the other end when Sabelo Ndzinisa turned the defence and with just Senzo Meyiwa to beat in the South Africa goal, shot wide off the base of the post. Rising star Zungu was a halftime substitute for the ineffective Lerato Chabangu and changed the ga ...
Im a die hard Kaizer Chiefs fan.I have to say that Orlando Pirates did us proud not only did they put South African football on the map but the whole Southern African region, they represented. I don't understand why I should be over the moon and be proud of them loosing when we cant even beat Ajax Cape Town...Pirates did not only show physical fitness but they showed that mentally they are capable of making it in Africa. The lost to a team that has not played domestic football for close to two years but boasted experience on the African continent. What Pirates did was to throw a challenge to Kaizer Chiefs since they will be in the tournament next year. I can only hope that my team can represent us as Orlando Pirates did. Lastly we should be proud that IT WAS AN ALL South African TEAM THAT PIRATES PLAYED WITH.So I cant rejoice because they lost because they have achieved what Kaizer Chiefs has not yet achieved in all its years in the PSL, NSL.So as Khosi fans lets just sit down and pray ukuthi we don't get ...

Super eight for Al Ahly as they outlast Pirates (African Football Media) Monday 11 November 2013 Egyptian giants Al Ahly will represent Africa at the Fifa Club World Cup in Morocco in December after winning an unprecedented eighth Caf Champions League title. A 2-0 win against South African club Orlando Pirates in Cairo on Sunday gave the Red Devils a 3-1 aggregate victory. Al Ahly fans celebrate After a 1-1 draw last weekend, officials in Egypt allowed Al Ahly to play the second leg in the capital Cairo despite previous security concerns, and a capacity crowd of 35,000 packed the Arab Contractors Stadium to cheer their team on to victory. They created a carnival atmosphere throughout the game, singing and dancing, prompting even Pirates coach Roger De Sa to remark there had been a terrific celebratory background to the game. Despite intense pressure from the start, Pirates managed to withstand the attacks of the home side in the first half and created several good scoring opportunities themselves, but bot ...
My approach to the Orlando Pirates vs Al Ahly game was - South Africa vs Egypt. I am a big Chiefs fan but I wanted Pirates (South Africa) to win. The founder of Kaizer Chiefs Mr. Motaung was once a Pirates player but because of quarrels within Pirates Mr Motaung moved and formed a team we know as Kaizer Chiefs today. This explains why Chiefs was formed almost three decades after Pirates. So if you laughing at Pirates loss know that you laughing at Chiefs too.
Mzansi unites behind Orlando Pirates The National African Football Supporters' Association (NAFSA) has noted with great delight a commendable spirt of unity and patriotism that is spread across the country ahead of the 2nd leg of the all important African Champions League finals in which South Africa's Orlando Pirates are expected to play their hearts against Al Haly of Egypt in Cairo this evening. Amabhaka-bhaka are the only South African team to ever lift the prestigious trophy back in 1995. The Association has been inundated with calls from different corners of the country calling for united force and support behind Pirates. This has in many ways evoked a Proudly South African showpiece of "the best ever" FIFA World Cup held in our home soil in 2010. NAFSA would like to single out its Patron-in-Chief Minister Fikile Mbalula for his leadership in calling for South Africans to rally behind the Buccaneers. Minister Mbalula has been consistent in calling for unity and patriotism. NAFSA's founding ideals ar ...
There are two teams in South Africa: Orlando Pirates and the rest. This thing of calling Kaizer Chiefs our "rival" must stop. Kaizer Chiefs cannot be our rival simply because we are at different levels in terms of quality. Our rival is Al-Ahly. The African continent is our battlefield while the battlefield of Kaizer Chiefs is confined within the borders of one country, South Africa. No, comrades,... Chiefs is not our rival. Chief's rivals are Sundowns, Black Leopards, AmaZulu FC, Polokwane City FC and all these other clubs. Not Pirates! We are too advanced to be in a rivalry with people who don't know what it's like to play with Africa's best! *Kaizer Chiefs is pursuing a South African agenda. Orlando Pirates is pursuing the African Renaissance agenda. Period!*Just hope di hout kop bo Jackie and the rest ba understander nou
Thabo Matlaba's perfomance is calling our National Head couch ! The boy is brilliant and well-dedicated ! We need young gifted boys who have the highest level of capacity in south africa in terms of football..! He reminds me those days i use to play an excellent football ! Yeah what can i say Orlando Pirates represents our Nation ! We're proud of you boys indeed! well
“Orlando Pirates have been brilliant so far, now they need to get that second star," De Villiers said. Come Saturday, however, Pirates would be up against a team which boast no fewer than nine stars on their club crest. Ahly have three stars at the top of their badge, representing 30+ Egyptian Premier League titles, while at the bottom, the Cairo 'Red Devils' have six stars, representing their Champions League trophies. Ahly had, in fact, won a record seven African titles but had yet to add the seventh to their crest, most likely due to a lack of space. In contrast, South Africa's Bafana Bafana have chosen never to add a star to their jersey, despite having won the Africa Cup of Nations in 1996. Teams such as Brazil (5), Italy (4) and Germany (3) all display their stars, symbolising their World Cup titles, while Uruguay, who have won two World Cups, have four stars on their crest. The two additional stars represent two Olympic titles (1924 and 1928).
We, the people of South Africa, declare for our country and the world to know: that South Africa belongs to all those who wear black and white, and that no club can justly claim authority unless it is based on the will of the people just like the Happy People. I remember 1995 I watched that match LIVE on MABALENG eish it was so emotional even though am a Sundowns supporter. Happy thanks Bucs,I remember: John Moeti,Brendon Sgqembe Silent,Gerald Raphahlele,Tinkler,Bruce Ramogoadi, Jerry Sikhosana,Roger Nzeng, Jethro Kambala, Midnight Express, Mark Fish, Botsotso Makhanya ,Bazuka Sishweni, Extension Mkhari the list is endless.Aluta I am touched and the people have given authority to Orlando Pirates, the national team! *as we amend the Sport Freedom Charter* Congrats ONCE AGAIN to Orlando Pirates.!!
South Africa's Orlando Pirates reached the African Champions League final on the away goals rule, after a 1-1 draw at Esperance of Tunisia.
The EFF launch was epic and the atmosphere was electric. The closest comparison to the atmosphere at the Koppie in Marikana is that of a Kaizer Chiefs and Orlando Pirates final match at the FNB stadium. Fighters came in the numbers from various branches around South Africa in struggle songs and dance with some carrying “Vuvuzelas.” The crowd was jubilant and singing praise songs of the EFF and Malema around the mountain. The EFF launch was well attended by ordinary South Africans whose EFF message resonates with them. This included miner workers, community members, AMCU union members in their green “T-shirts” and UDM leader, Bantu Holomisa who also addressed the crowd. There were well over 20 000 people who attended the EFF launch on 13 October 2013. Some political analysts have suggested that the EFF will receive just below 10% if we are lucky and some even have gone far as to suggest that EFF will get not more 2% of the vote in 2014 general elections. May I remind you that COPE which was formed ...
This morning I woke up and remembered how it truly is Orlando Pirates vs All African teams +refs+SA+and coaches...please bare with me this will be long *remember when we first won our Treble and we played all the games in South Africa and won a treble but guess what Andile Jali was overlooked and a runners up player won Thulane Serero was given all the accolades *The second treble we won we played 2 finals and won them and won the League too and also and still our players were overlooked and won nothing in awards especially Siyabonga Sangweni but the runners up player won the awards Siyabonga Nomvete *and its funny how last season When their favourite team won a fluke double and guess whose team player was given all the accolades?? Zebras won a fluke Double and their player is given all the accolades yet when we won a Double Treble none of our players were given anything No matter how much they try to overlook us and never praise us even if we win the ACL they will never give us credit But I don't care ou ...

bumped into a Mamelodi Sundowns official on Monday after they signed Khama Billiat and he declared: “We are done signing”. Platinum Stars’ Senzo Mazingisa also confirmed recently that the club is satisfied with their six new signings. But most clubs are still on the lookout for players to bolster their respective squads. So who else is in line to join a club before the transfer window closes on August 30? As KickOff.com reported, Moroka Swallows have made an offer to midfielder Gert Schalkwyk who has been on trial. The Dube Birds are waiting for his response. Malawi sensation Hellings ‘Gabadinho’ Mhango has reportedly returned to South Africa for transfer talks. He was on trial at AmaZulu, Bloemfontein Celtic and Free State Stars some weeks ago. The agent of highly-rated Nigerian striker Gambo Mohammed claims to have held talks with both Orlando Pirates and Bloemfontein Celtic. Kaizer Motaung In a sense, South Africa's favorite soccer club never plays an away match - Kaizer Chiefs, founded by SA soccer legend Kaizer Motaung, draws more supporters at away games than its opposition 'home' teams. As a youngster, Motaung dreamt of pulling on the black and white strip of the legendary Soweto club Orlando Pirates. At the age of 16 his dream came true, and he quickly established himself as one of the stars of the side. Then, in 1968, former West Ham United player Phil Woosnam, who was managing the Atlanta Chiefs in the recently formed North American Soccer League (NASL) in the United States, came to Africa looking for new talent. He recruited Motaung after trials held in Zambia. At first the move was a big shock to the system for the young striker. ANY STORIES YOU WANT TO SHARE ABOUT CHINCHA GULUVA?

ZIMBABWE international forward Khama Billiat spoke of his excitement yesterday as he got another big chance to break into Europe after being offered a trial stint at top Russian outfit Lokomotiv Moscow. Billiat was last night expected to fly out from Cape Town to Slovenia to join the Russian giants for their pre-season training camp. The Ajax Cape Town hotshot has been in demand in the off-season, with Absa Premiership giants Orlando Pirates and Mamelodi Sundowns heavily linked with a move for his signature. Such has been the huge interest on Billiat’s services that his club had even put a R10 million price tag on him, about a US$1 million at the time they made the valuation, to ensure only serious contenders put in their bid for the winger. Although such a figure would scare away potential suitors in South Africa, it is small change when it comes to European clubs and, in the event that Billiat passes his trials, he could go for about three or four times what Ajax Cape Town had put on his head for a do ...

Johannesburg - PSL champions, Kaizer Chiefs, could well be making their way to Europe in the near future as they plan for a possible preseason camp in Italy. According to the Soccer-Laduma website, it's thought that Chiefs, who won the PSL and Nedbank Cup titles last year, are eager to take on two Italian Serie A teams ahead of their 2013/14 campaign, in order to fully prepare themselves for their title defence. Amakhosi’s Head Coach, Stuart Baxter, spent several years working in Europe, building up an extensive contact base, something that it is believed he is using in order to try and organise the potential trip. There has been no confirmation as to whether the trip will go ahead. Baxter is due back in South Africa on the 29th of June after holidaying in Sweden following the end of his debut season in the Absa Premiership. Kaizer Chiefs and Orlando Pirates will clash on July 27, with the title of 2013 Carling Black Label Cup champions up for grabs.

Travel-weary African Champions Nigeria are away to Kenya Wednesday in a 2014 World Cup qualifier they dare not lose, with only the group winners progressing to the final round. The "Super Eagles" go into the matchday-four fixture level on five points and goal difference in Group F with Malawi and top of the table because they have scored more often. Namibia, away to Malawi in a match that kicks off 30 minutes earlier, have three points and Kenya two in a mini-league where goals have been a scarce commodity. Injuries rule out several South Africa-based Namibia stars, including strikers Rudolf Bester of Orlando Pirates and Henrico Botes from league runners-up Platinum Stars. Kenya v Nigeria, Malawi v Namibia - what's your predictions?
TLOU "SOX" SEGOLELA is the man of the moment. The all-conquering two-goal Bafana hero against Lesotho on Sunday, despite the wind, the mountains and the plastic pitch. And then we have the "Maradona" goal from "South Africa's Usain Bolt" against Free State Stars in 2011. Used mostly as an "impact" substitute by Orlando Pirates coaches since his move to the Buccaneers in 2007 (he also went on loan to Bloemfontein Celtic in 2009) there was talk earlier this month of a move to Soweto rivals with some debate over the two-year contract he signed last year NOT being extended to the end of June 2014. But with those two goals in Maseru on Sunday - the first a tap-in, the second a lovely turn-and-fire - the high-speed "Gautrain" has suddenly become a valuable property with those live images on SuperSport and the SABC making him the man of the moment. But there is a limit to footballing hype. I don't deny Segolela certainly deserves a water-tight deal for next season, something technical director Screamer Tshabalal ...
The Moses Mabhida Stadium has hosted a long list of successful events since its completion. World Cup soccer, local giants Kaizer Chiefs and Orlando Pirates in PSL and cup action, the Indian cricket team playing the Proteas, and Neil Diamond crooning away have all taken place under its mighty arch. But it has felt as though it is missing something that would separate it from the rest. Something like the Stig driving a Formula One car around a bespoke tarmac track, perhaps? This year’s Top Gear Live in mid-June will see the tame racing driver speeding around Moses Mabhida in the championship- winning 2011 Red Bull RB7 Formula One car. Not only is it a first for South Africa, but a world first for a Formula One car to be driven around a conventional stadium, says Top Gear Festival spokesman Kelly Fenning. “The Stig driving the Red Bull car is unique.” “The guys at Red Bull don’t even know who he is and they are giving him this multimillion-rand car.” The RB7 was the car in which Sebastian Vettel ...

Bafana Bafana down Lesotho in a friendly Orlando Pirates midfielder Tlou Segolela scored two goals in each half to help Bafana Bafana see off Lesotho 2-0 in an international friendly match played at the Setsoto Stadium in Maseru, Lesotho on Sunday, 2 June 2013. South Africa remains unbeaten against the Mountain Kingdom with five victories in six meetings, with the other match drawn. The match got off to a flying start with Bafana creating several chances. Segolela opened the scoring on the stroke of halftime following a fine pass from Kaizer Chiefs midfielder Siphiwe Tshabalala. It was an easy tap-in for the man nicknamed Sox. That goal gave the cheering Bafana supporters something to celebrate going into the break. _ WORLD FOOTBALL NEWS - • Black Leopards striker Rodney Ramagalela says he is ready for the challenge of joining one of the country’s big teams. The 24-year-old was one of the few shining lights as Lidoda Duvha got relegated for the top-flight, and his performances have allegedly attracted the interests of Bidvest Wits and Mamelodi Sundowns. Pitso: Downs deserve some blame Pitso Mosimane has hinted that Mamelodi Sundowns have played as big a role as any in hiking the transfer prices in South African soccer. The Brazilians, backed by president Patrice Motsepe’s billions, have often been accused of paying over the top prices to secure a target – a player who then often just winds up sitting on the bench on or in the stands. And it’s not only the transfer fees – Downs also offer among the biggest salaries on offer, with Elias Pelembe and Katlego Mphela reportedly just two of the players making a killing at Chloorkop. The Brazilians are also allegedly preparing to sign a cheque worth R3million for Zimbabwean striker Cuthbert Malajila, while Aubrey Ngoma is also expected to join from Orlando Pirates. Mosimane says his club should carry some of the blame for skewing the transfer market. “The transfer market in South Africa at this point in time is really crazy,” he says. “If you look at what is happening in Europe and look at what we ...
The Caf Champions League draw is on the go, Orlando Pirates Football Club has just been drawn in Group A consisting of: Al Ahly(Egypt), AC Leopards (Congo), Orlando Pirates (South Africa), Zamalek (Egypt).
South Africa lets get behind Orlando Pirates and Supersport United they will make us proud.
Stuart Baxter spoilt the derby because of his ultra defensive british football. Kaizer Chiefs never came to play but to defend throughout the game. European coaches are slowly but surely killing our traditional diski football of skills with the non-sense direct football. Orlando Pirates spent a lot of time camping at Kaizer Chiefs half. It is bad to come to the game with parking the bus approach. Kaizer Chiefs have good ball players but under that ultra defensive techniques, they failed to play to their utmose best. It wasn't a good game for the global audience who anticipated a lot from both teams. Only one team (Orlando Pirates) came to the party with Chiefs parking bus with few offensive movements. The game was never a good advertisement of South Africa football. It was dull game due to conscious , backward and boring defensive tactics. What's ur view about the overall derby perfomance?
If you love South Africa, you can't miss the match Kaizer Chiefs vs Orlando Pirates. Its better than Real Madrid ...
A capacity 90,000 crowd and a global TV audience will watch a Soweto Derby between Kaizer Chiefs and Orlando Pirates tomorrow that could decide the South African Premiership title race. Chiefs hold a five-point lead over second-placed Pirates with nine rounds left. A win for the season-long pacesetters would make them firm favourites to become champions after the first season in charge for England-born former South Africa coach Stuart Baxter. A win for Pirates would narrow the gap to two points and the team seeking a record-equalling third consecutive title have a match in hand because of Caf Champions League commitments. With even more at stake than usual in a fixture dating back 43 years, it was not surprising that tickets for the mid-afternoon Soccer City stadium showdown were sold out two weeks ago. On our phone topic what are your predictions for the this weekend's clash?
The unconvincing performances of Orlando Pirates during their last two matches have exposed some glaring shortcomings that coach Roger De Sa will have to address if the team hopes to win any silverware this season. De Sa is understandably worried by the capitulation of his defence, which has let in a massive seven goals in just two games. And the situation has not been helped by the injury of defenders Rooi Mahamutsa, Robyn Johannes and – more recently – Siyabonga Sangweni. With Pirates in the Comoros Islands for their Caf Champions League preliminary round second-leg match against Djabal FC on Saturday, De Sa admits that his defence has to be more solid if Pirates hope to progress to the money-spinning stages of the competition. "We cannot afford to concede goals like this if we want to win silverware. This is an area of concern that we are addressing," De Sa says. Besides being eliminated from the Nedbank Cup, Pirates have also been booted out of the Telkom Cup and the MTN8 Cup – South Africa's tw ...

SAFA Second Division side Maluti FET College have warned Orlando Pirates to come prepared for a battle when they clash in the Nedbank Cup at the Charles Mopeli Stadium on Saturday. Maluti have drawn inspiration from Baroka FC’s amazing run in the same competition two years ago and feel they can caused one of the biggest cup shocks in South Africa soccer history against the defending Premiership champions. “We respect Pirates, but are not afraid of them,” coach Morena Ramoreboli tells KickOff.com. “Our preparations for this game have gone well. My intention and the aim of the team is to qualify for the next stage of the competition and the only way to do that is by beating Orlando Pirates on Saturday.” “We obviously don’t have any big-name players as we only believe in the development of our own youngsters. The team has been together for three seasons and we believe we are experienced and mature enough to compete against Pirates.”

Onyekachi Donatus Okonkwo or simply Tico (born 13 May 1982 in Aba, Nigeria) is a Nigerian football (soccer) midfielder who plays for Orlando Pirates. During his two-year stay in South Africa he was arguably one of the club's most influential players even scoring the decisive goal against his former club Enyimba to lead the Johannesburg-based club Orlando Pirates to the 2006 MTN Caf Champions League semifinals. At the same time he had a huge record of ill- discipline and unsporting behaviour. In August 2006, during a Telkom Charity Cup match against Bloemfontein Celtic, Okonkwo was red-carded but refused to leave the pitch and threatened to beat up referee Daniel Bennett and had to be hauled off the pitch by his team-mates. Zambia is in Group C at the upcoming event. They will face Nigeria, Burkina Faso and Ethiopia.

I wish him all of the best in his football career.
