IPL 7: Mumbai Indians and Chennai Super Kings eye full retentions in auction Press Trust of India | 09-Jan-2014 17:32 PM New Delhi: Defending champions Mumbai Indians and the formidable Chennai Super Kings are the two franchises which are set to retain all five players when the teams submit their lists on Friday for the upcoming seventh edition of Indian Premier League. MI and CSK are the two teams that have the biggest fan base all over India and have had a core set of players that has remained pretty much the same over the years. As far as BCCI president N Srinivasan's franchise is concerned, skipper Mahendra Singh Dhoni will be retained along with Ravindra Jadeja, Ravichandran Ashwin and Suresh Raina - all India regulars. The choice of foreign player will be between West Indies' Dwayne Bravo and South Africa's Faf du Plessis. Dhoni's fascination for seam-bowling allrounders is widely documented and Bravo certainly will hold an edge over his South African rival, who has also caught the imagination with ...
Ricky Ponting, the former Australia captain and one of the greatest batsmen of the modern age, will retire from all cricket in October. The 38-year-old is currently in England playing county cricket for Surrey but he has said that the Champions League T20 campaign with Mumbai Indians, winners of this year's IPL, will be his last competitive outing. "While I'm enjoying my cricket as much as ever, it just feels like the right time to finish playing," Ponting told the Daily Mail. "My body and mind are in great shape and I know I'm going to really enjoy these last few months before the next stage of life begins." Ponting announced his Test retirement during Australia's home series against South Africa last year, making a farewell appearance in the defeat at Perth. In 168 Test matches he amassed 13378 runs, second only to Sachin Tendulkar, as well as 13704 runs in ODIs, winning three World Cups, two as captain. In what has turned out to be his final season in Australia, Ponting helped Tasmania to victory in th ...

IPL 2013 'I have never in my life seen this much money' In ten minutes at the IPL auction, South Africa allrounder Chris Morris went from a franchise cricketer on a decent contract to rich beyond his dreams Chris Morris was in the Kimberley dressing room with his Lions team-mates on Sunday morning. Little did he know he was sitting on a diamond mine. Across the Indian Ocean, the IPL auction was taking place. Morris was one of the outsiders, with a base price of just US$20,000. That is the equivalent of R177,000 - which can buy a mid-level new car in South Africa. Interested to see if he would be picked up by any team, Morris and some of his team-mates turned on an iPad and watched the action unfold live on this website. Three franchises bid for Morris - the Mumbai Indians, Chennai Super Kings and the Sunrisers Hyderabad. Super Kings' bid reached US$95,000 and then Mumbai upped to US$100,000. Gordon Parsons, the Lions bowling coach, "grabbed the iPad away from me and saw that it was up to 100,000," Morris ...

The IPL 2013 auction was supposed to be a relatively quiet one where settled franchises looked to fill in a couple of holes in their squads but, as is the case every year, it had plenty of surprises. Most of the biggest earners were players barely known outside their home countries, while marquee names like Michael Clarke and Ricky Ponting attracted only one bid each. Australia's Glenn Maxwell talked himself up as his side's X-factor at the World Twenty20 last year, and though he flopped there, Mumbai Indians splurged a million dollars for his services. Australia have a wealth of young fast bowlers but few would have bet that the one getting the largest paycheque would be 21-year-old South Australian Kane Richardson, who was bought by Pune Warriors for $700,000. Another player with only one international cap, South Africa allrounder Chris Morris, was picked up by Chennai Super Kings for $625,000. Kolkata Knight Riders spent a similar amount on Sri Lanka offspinner Sachithra Senanayake, who has struggled t ...

A typical Caribbean cricketer, Dwayne Bravo, is full of life and passion on the field. He made his Test debut at Lord's in July 2004 and immediately made a mark with his swing bowling claiming three wickets. He finished the Test series with a fine all-round performance at Old Trafford - where he took 6 for 55 - his best bowling performance in a Test innings - after making a classy 77 earlier in the match. After the end of the series, he was recognized as a genuine all-round talent of the kind that West Indies badly needed. Bravo bats with typical West Indian flair with lovely shots all round the wicket. He clips balls on the legs with the sort of lazy elegance that would make VVS Laxman proud. He is very wristy and that gives him enough time to maneuver the ball into gaps against the spinners. He is elegance personified when he uses his feet to get to the pitch of the ball against the spinners, lofting them all the way into the stands. He made his maiden Test ton against South Africa in April 2004-05 at A ...

It's Dale Steyn vs. Mumbai Indians and Deccan Chargers. He's getting 0 support. He barely ever gets any support! A devastating bowler who suffers from the sub-par performance of others in his own team. Dale deserves the World Cup. If not India, I want South Africa to win the next one.
What's it with Mumbai Indians openers becoming MPs? First Jayasuriya, now Tendulkar. Very soon, Richard Levi will be premier of South Africa
India and Mumbai Indians' medium-pacer Munaf Patel had a good outing against Deccan Chargers at Visakhapatnam on Monday night in the ninth match of the ongoing fifth edition of the Indian Premier League. Munaf bowled an exceptional spell at the start, middle and end of the Chargers' innings to finish with figures of 4 for 20; and he also took a good catch at long-on to give Lasith Malinga his third wicket of the match. But, Munaf spoilt what should have been a memorable night in one moment of petulant outburst when he launched a sustained verbal assault on the umpires after a decision went against him. In the third ball of his third over and the 13th of the Chargers' innings, Munaf thought he had clean bowled the opposition captain captain Kumar Sangakkara, who had added 36 runs for the fourth wicket with Daniel Christian. Sangakkara attempted to drive a full delivery, but dragged the ball onto the stumps; however square leg umpire Johan Cloete of South Africa thought the ball had come off wicket-keeper D ...
MS Dhoni: It is a very interesting game. It is good to start the first game with home advantage. Some of the boys have been together for a longer time. We came from South Africa and had to shoot a lot of ads for the clients and such things. We would have liked to bowl first too but not too disappointed. I've never seen so much grass on this wicket. In the Champions League we were a little worried that it was coming on a little slow. Faf and Ravindra Jadeja will be making their debut for Chennai. Harbhajan: I'm always very loose. It is a different challenge and we are ready for it. We have got a young and exciting squad. Ambati Rayudu and Rohit Sharma are back. Rohit did not play in the Champions League. Levi has joined us from South Africa. Chennai has always been a special ground for us. Last year we won the Champions League here. Chennai are always a good team to play against. It is a fresh wicket and we would like to bowl first. Levi is playing. Mumbai Indians have won the toss and elected to field The ...
