Ebola: FG flays 22 countries for stigmatising Nigerians: The Federal Government has flayed the stigmatisation of Nigerians by South Africa and 21 other countries over the outbreak of the deadly Ebola virus disease that was eradicated recently. The Federal Government said the eradication of the virus prompted the World Health Organisation to give Nigeria a clean bill of health over the disease. It named the countries that stigmatised Nigerians as Bahrain, Côte d'Ivoire, Equatorial Guinea, Cameroon, Cuba, Gabon, China, Egypt and Hong Kong. Others are Kuwait, Qatar, Sri Lanka, Turkey, Zambia, Mauritania, São Tomé & Principle, United Arab Emirates, Ukraine, Namibia, Seychelles and South Sudan. The Minister of Foreign Affairs, Amb. Welcome to this week’s Trumpeting Times, Issue Well the elephant world has been tremendously exciting this weekend, with people all over the world joining in to protest the sale of ivory and pledging to help protect the African elephant. Although our march in Hong Kong was delayed, the rest of the world and your love of elephants totally amazed me! Thank you SO MUCH to Katherine Connor at Boon Lott’s Elephant Sanctuary (BLES), Annie Saunders, Sasha Haldane, Karen Ludwig and Leanne Fogarty for your fabulous photos from marches right across the world!! Not only was there a show of love towards African eles this weekend, but I was thrilled to see that the fabulous Wildlife SOS has added another member to their herd, Lilly! Like so many other poor elephants, Lilly had lived her life working on the streets of India, placating the tourist industry. After walking into sanctuary on Sunday night, Lilly shall be chain-free and pain-free for the rest of her days! Staying with Wildlife SOS, one of Lilly’s futur ...

This will be the first official visit of a sitting ASHRAE President to South Africa since Richard Charles went there during the 1992-1993 Society year and promises to be a very interesting week. It will also be my first visit to Africa - filling a major gap in my travel resume. Over the course of five days in Johannesburg and Cape Town, I will be meeting with ASHRAE members, SAIRAC (an ASHRAE Associate Society), Consulting Engineers South Africa, South African Department of Environmental Affairs, South African Qualifications Certification Committee, South African Refrigeration and Airconditioning Contractors Association, Council for Scientific and Industrial Research and the trade press. After that, it will be time to focus on the annual meeting, but I still have two trips to Atlanta booked for important meetings before headi ...

95% OF THE WORLD'S RHINOS HAVE BEEN LOST IN THE PAST 40 YEARS. All rhino species are critically endangered, except the Southern white rhino, which has recovered from around 50 to over 20,000 individuals since the 1960s. The precipitous decline of African rhinos everywhere outside of South Africa was halted in 1993 by tough action from the Convention of the International Trade of Flora and Fauna (CITES), which led to the sanctioning of Taiwan by the Clinton Administration and the banning of domestic sales of rhino horn (International Trade ban being in place since 1975) in China, Hong Kong, and Taiwan. This process involved the arrest of rhino horn sellers and a public burning of rhino horn in China and tremendous publicity surrounding the sanctions in Taiwan. Between 1994 and 2008 both Black and Southern white rhino populations grew steadily. In 2008 poaching started to rise and last year the world witnessed record levels of rhino poaching in South Africa and Zimbabwe with the main markets identified as V ...

I have been watching a lot of movies recently. Reruns of the Star Wars, Lord of the Rings, etc. Last week I watched Godzilla. Yesterday, my family and I watched X-Men. We also saw the trailers for the upcoming sequels of the Transformer and Planet of the Apes movies. . . My two conclusions : 1 All the monsters, aliens, robots, future beings, gigantic spaceships, etc DO NOT attack Malaysia. They land and attack New York, London, Tokyo, Hong Kong, etc (they were even in South Africa – remember District 9?) but they don’t come to Malaysia. We are safe. Yey… Malaysia kita aman. 2 All the sophisticated / advanced humans /beings speak English. The Jedis, Yoda, the Elves, Gandalph the Grey, the Autobots, all the X-men, Superman, Batman, Ironman, Spiderman, The Hulk – all of them speak English. So people, please brush up your English if you want to do well in the future.

Here is the break down of the standings for Sevens Rugby after this past weekends event in Hong Kong the 7th stop in the series. This puts New Zealand in the lead and as long as they stay in first or second place for the next two rounds then they will win this years series. South Africa made some huge blunders this past week and ended up in 5th place in Hong Kong and they are the only ones close enough to win the Series at this point. Go New Zealand All Blacks! Great job of being consistent!

List of awards and honours bestowed upon Nelson Mandela From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia Nelson Mandela This is a comprehensive list of awards, honours and other recognitions bestowed on Nelson Mandela. Mandela has received more than two hundred sixty awards over four decades, most notably the Nobel Peace Prize in 1993. From 1994 to 1999, Mandela was President of South Africa. He was the first such African to be elected in fully representative democratic polls. Before his presidency, Mandela was an anti-apartheid activist and leader of the African National Congress and its armed wing Umkhonto we Sizwe. He spent 27 years in prison, much of it in a cell on Robben Island the rest of the time he spent in Pollsmoor Prison, on convictions for crimes that included sabotage committed while he spearheaded the struggle against apartheid. Following his release from prison on 11 February 1990, his switch to a policy of reconciliation and negotiation helped lead the transition to multi-racial democracy in South A ...
Mandela-inspired Kruger leads in Hong Kong 06 Dec 2013 12:13:44 South Africa's Jbe Kruger grabbed the outright lead at the halfway stage of the Hong Kong Open on Friday, paying tribute afterwards to Nelson Mandela who he called a "real-life hero". Kruger added to an opening round 67 with a four-under-par 66, thanks to a scintillating putting display on the back nine that leaves him one shot clear of Stuart Manley going into the weekend. Organisers had billed the tournament as a clash between Spanish veteran Miguel Angel Jimenez, chasing a record-equalling fourth title, and 15-year-old Chinese prodigy Guan Tianlang. But Kruger had different ideas at the co-sanctioned European Tour and Asian Tour event, sinking seven birdies on Friday while Jimenez only partially moved up the leaderboard and Guan failed to make the cut. "Our country has lost a real-life hero," Kruger, who wore a black ribbon in memory of the anti-apartheid hero, said of Mandela after his round. "He was one of the best presidents I've ever s ...
India ranks 94th on global corruption perception index - Third Class India Berlin: India was Tuesday ranked among the world's highly corrupt nations at the 94th spot in a global list topped by Denmark and New Zealand as the cleanest, while Somalia emerged as the most corrupt. While India's rank has remained unchanged from the last year, it has emerged as more corrupt than three of its BRICS peers -- China (80th), South Africa and Brazil (both ranked 72nd) -- but better than Russia (127th) in this annual list of 177 countries compiled by Transparency International. According to the list, India has scored 36 points on a scale of 0-100, where 0 means that a country is perceived as highly corrupt and 100 means it is perceived as very clean. None of the countries have managed to get the perfect 100 score. Top-ranked Denmark and New Zealand have scored 91 points each to share the first place on the list. Somalia shares lowest rank with North Korea and Afghanistan with 8 points each. Those scoring marginally bet ...

I see there has been a bit of confusion pertaining next year ICC T20 World Cup - fair enough confusion is part of cricket these days. I will try to simplify it now, The men's World Cup (By the way they run concurently with the ladies'), So the men's World Cup consists of 16 teams, get that one right - 16 teams. Automatic qualification for the Test playing nations- West Indies, India, Bangladesh, Australia, England, South Africa, Pakistan, Zimbabwe, Sri Lanka and New Zealand. Then there is the 6 teams from the associates that played the qualifiers (The final which is on today) - Ireland, Afganistan, Netherlands, Hong Kong, Nepal and United Arab Emirates. So in total we have 16 teams already qualified for the World Cup. So how it will work out... (The confusion part) There is the first round (Please note its not a qualifier to the World Cup, its already the World Cup). The 1st round will have the 2 'strongest' Test playing nations (Zimbabwe and Bangladesh) and the 6 associate teams that played qualifiers. B ...

Solicitor From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia Not to be confused with Solicitor General (disambiguation) or Door-to-door salesperson in American English. A solicitor is a lawyer who traditionally deals with any legal matter including conducting proceedings in court. In the United Kingdom, a few Australian states, Hong Kong, South Africa (where they are called attorneys) and the Republic of Ireland, the legal profession is split between solicitors and barristers (called advocates in some countries), and a lawyer will usually only hold one of the two titles. However, in Canada, New Zealand and most Australian states, the legal profession is now for practical purposes "fused", allowing lawyers to hold the title of "barrister and solicitor" and practise as both. The distinction between barristers and solicitors is, however, retained. Some legal graduates will start off as one and then decide to become the other.[1] Contents [hide] 1 England and Wales 1.1 Regulatory scheme 1.2 Training and qualifications 1. ...
The Weyrich's have a had a few big events recently. Mike played on the school rugby team and they succeeded in winning the Asia Pacific championship, beating the perennial favorite Hong Kong International. This the first time for their school to win. It was an exciting game as Greg lost his voice yelling encouragement to the team. The ultimate cinderella story where they lost their first 6 games badly. Amazing turnaround. Move over American football. Below picture is one position Mike played (so called "being lifted in air at ball at throw-in" position). The second picture is our new housemate from South Africa (left, center is his girlfriend, right is Eunice). His parents were called away suddenly by his company. He needed a place to stay for a few months. We live in a place with a guest room. He has been a tremendous blessing as we interact with him. Today we watched his team win the cricket championship in Shanghai! He is semi-pro player in S. Africa.

Today I went back to the Film Fest and saw and heard ELAINE STRITCH and visited with the fantastic staff of the Film Festival. I ended the night visiting with filmmakers from Rwanda, South Africa, Hong Kong, Italy, Cuba, and Greece. Yes, this is a status brag. Chicago is my kind of town.

In the world of economic policymaking, acronyms and shorthand are endemic. When he was Canada’s finance minister, Paul Martin scribbled the names of a handful of countries on a brown envelope in Larry Summers’ office, eventuating in today’s G20. We had the Asian Tigers (Taiwan, South Korea, Hong Kong, Singapore) and more recently the MISTs (Malaysia, Indonesia, South Korea, Turkey). The most popular of such pithy concoctions has undoubtedly been Jim O’Neil’s ‘BRICs,’ an acronym birthed in 2001 by the former Goldman Sachs Asset Manager to denote the transfer of wealth away from the G7 to the hottest markets in the developing world. After the financial crisis, the inevitability of the G8 evaporated as the G20 became the primary forum of economic governance. At the same time, a consensus formed around the viability of the BRICS (Brazil, Russia, India, China, and South Africa), though this too began to dissipate late last year as the emerging markets entered a collective lull. There are two majo ...

A pyramid scheme is a non-sustainable business model that involves promising participants payment or services, primarily for enrolling other people into the scheme, rather than supplying any real investment or sale of products or services to the public.[1][2] Various forms of pyramid schemes are illegal in many countries including Albania, Australia,[3][4] Austria,[5] Brazil, Canada, China,[6] Colombia,[7] Denmark, the Dominican Republic,[8] Estonia,[9] France, Germany, Hong Kong,[10] Hungary, Iceland, Iran,[11] Italy,[12] Japan,[13] Malaysia, Mexico, Nepal, the Netherlands,[14] New Zealand,[15] Norway,[16] the Philippines,[17] Poland, Portugal, Romania,[18] Russian Federation, South Africa,[19] Spain, Sri Lanka,[20] Sweden,[21] Switzerland, Taiwan, Thailand,[22] Turkey,[23] the United Kingdom, and the United States.[24] These types of schemes have existed for at least a century, some with variations to hide their true nature, and because of this, many people believe that all multilevel marketing plans ar ...

World War I -On June 28, 1914, Archduke Franz Ferdinand of Austria-Hungary was assassinated, setting off a chain of events leading to World War I. -Britain, allied to France by a more loosely worded treaty which placed a "moral obligation" upon her to defend France, declared war against Germany on 4 August. Her reason for entering the conflict lay in another direction: she was obligated to defend neutral Belgium by the terms of a 75-year old treaty. With Germany's invasion of Belgium on 4 August, and the Belgian King's appeal to Britain for assistance, Britain committed herself to Belgium's defence later that day. Like France, she was by extension also at war with Austria-Hungary. -With Britain's entry into the war, her colonies and dominions abroad variously offered military and financial assistance, and included Australia, Canada, India, New Zealand and the Union of South Africa. -By August 4, Britain had declared war on Germany and, as part of the Empire, Canada automatically entered in the fray. About five days ago I arrived in Helsinki, Finland. I touched down with Norwegian Airlines, having boarded at Gatwick Airport in the United Kingdom. It took me a sun-swept moment to realise that it had been almost six months since I had left South Africa to pursue further education abroad. I missed home, without knowing where I could find it, or how I wanted to do so. In a video promoting Sally Williams Fine Honey Nougat, a v/o narrator boasts that her goods can be found "as far afield as Helsinki". Some South Africans will recognise the Sally Williams label for her range of confectionery, including the waxy-papered nougat bars. Sally Williams had made it to Sydney, Paris, New York, London, Helsinki...She had made it in these splendorous global cities. And there I was, baking in the sun of one of the cosmopolitan dreamworlds. I have been lucky to have travelled fairly extensively in the last five years especially. My journeys have taken me to São Paulo, Hong Kong, Sharm el-Sheikh, and to various Europe ...

Following the G20 meeting over the weekend and the U.S. holiday yesterday, trading resumed in full last night with the Chinese back from their New Year’s celebration. Buyers were out in force last night, as strong physical demand from Singapore, Hong Kong and China propelled all four metals higher with platinum briefly trading over $1,700.00. The rally did not hold, as prices began to drift lower in Europe and continue to do so in early U.S. trading with gold and silver now in negative territory. Platinum is again trading at an $80.00 premium to gold on news that Anglo American Platinum in South Africa was forced to temporarily close mines, as conflicts once again broke out with the mine workers. Platinum and palladium are both up $10.00 this morning. Keep a close eye on European economic news this week as continued weak data will enable the USD to rally which will add short term pressure to metals prices as gold and silver struggle to hold $1,600.00 and $29.50 respectively.

Happy Chinese New Year! It is the year of the snake (hence the snake eel on this picture, taken in Komodo, Indonesia in 2012). Customers urged to be selective with their delicacies during the festivities, and more generally throughout the year: Via: Pierre-Yves Cousteau: Year of the Snake! Some wildlife products traditionally consumed during the New Year Festivities include: Abalone: This prized seafood delicacy may be popular, but stocks have plummeted especially in South Africa, a major supplier of abalone to East Asia, where Hong Kong is the main importer. Continued illegal harvesting and trade are having a severe impact on abalone populations, resulting in the closure of legal fisheries and the loss of hundreds of jobs. Before purchasing abalone, ask your supplier to demonstrate that it has been legally sourced. Shark fin soup: This soup made from shark fin is a traditional Chinese delicacy served at important occasions. Tens of millions of sharks are killed each year, placing severe pressures on slow ...

In March 2012, in India’s capital, New Delhi, the chairman of China Development Bank (CDB), by far the largest in the world (Brazil's being the second), Chen Yuan, proposed setting up a development bank for the BRICS nations of Brazil, Russia, India, China, and South Africa, following his life’s ambition to make CDB into a bank that would both serve the Communist Party’s goals and be profitable. China, with its financial base in Hong Kong, now has a chance to spread its capital, currency, and influence. For money and power have long gone together and likely always will. I'm all for this tera-development bank that will dwarf all the others and throw neoliberalism into where it belongs: the trash can.

471 is Made in Taiwan This is our human right to know, but the government and related department never educate the public, therefore we have to RESCUE ourselves. Nowadays, Chinese businessmen know that consumers do not prefer products 'made in china', so they don't show from which country it is made. However, you may now refer to the barcode, remember if the first 3 digits is 690 to 695, then it is Made in China . 00-13: USA & Canada 20-29: In-Store Functions 30-37: France 40-44: Germany 45: Japan (also 49) 46: Russian Federation 471: Taiwan 474: Estonia 475: Latvia 477: Lithuania 479: Sri Lanka 480: Philippines 482: Ukraine 484: Moldova 485: Armenia 486: Georgia 487: Kazakhstan 489: Hong Kong 49: Japan (JAN-13) 50: United Kingdom 520: Greece 528: Lebanon 529: Cyprus 531: Macedonia 535: Malta 539: Ireland 54: Belgium & Luxembourg 560: Portugal 569: Iceland 57: Denmark 590: Poland 594: Romania 599: Hungary 600 & 601: South Africa 609: Mauritius 611: Morocco 613: Algeria 619: Tunisia 622: Egypt 625: Jorda ...
Happy July 4th!!! I know there are problems in our country now. I have lived in England, South Africa, Botswana, and have spent many months in Europe and Hong Kong. Despite our problems, the USA has the best political system and individual freedoms of any country in the world. When I am frustrated by what is going on, I remember what it is like to live in another country. We have it "great" here!!! Happy 4th and Be Safe!
When we stayed overnight at Wadi Rum, we met a couple traveling from Paris, one person from Canada, and another from Hong Kong. I was so envious of how much traveling to other countries people do in Europe. The couple from Paris was clearly very middle class—a police officer and an Executive Assistant—and yet they traveled to another country once a year. They’ve been to almost all the European countries, Turkey, South Africa, Senegal, etc. The guy from Canada was an international studies major who graduated and then started traveling the world, South Africa being his most recent jaunt. He is living in Amman for six months studying Arabic. Another couple that we met later in Amman teach at the International School. They are in their late fifties/early sixties and have spent their lives teaching English in different countries (Greece, Burma, Honduras—all sorts of places). How your perspective must change by traveling to so many countries, living in them and learning about other cultures’ v ...

lorry "A truck, a long, flat wagon," 1838, British railroad word, probably from verb lurry "to pull, tug," of uncertain origin. Meaning "large motor vehicle for carrying goods" is first attested 1911. In the United States, Canada and Philippines "truck" is usually reserved for commercial vehicles larger than normal cars including pickups and other vehicles having an open load bed. In Australia, New Zealand and South Africa, the word "truck" is mostly reserved for larger vehicles; in Australia and New Zealand, a pickup truck is usually called a ute (short for "utility"), while in South Africa it is called a bakkie (Afrikaans: "container"). In the United Kingdom, India, Malaysia, Singapore, Ireland and Hong Kong lorry is used instead of truck, but only for the medium and heavy types. In American English, the word "truck" is often preceded by a word describing the type of vehicle, such as a "fire truck" or "tanker truck". In British English these would be referred to as "fire engine" and "tanker" or "petrol ...
