if Mushfiq wanted an offspinner SO BADLY why didn't he get Sohag Gazi in the side? It was a poor reason he gave. 3 lefties. (2/3)

Bangladesh vs West Indies, ICC World TWENTY20 2014, 20th Match, Group 2, Mirpur IN THE SPOTLIGHT : As someone who strikes at around 130 in T20s, Dwayne Smith will want to make amends for his torturous 29-ball 11 against India that robbed West Indies of any momentum at the start of the innings. With Chris Gayle expected to stick to his method of biding his time early on, Smith is entrusted with the task of providing the opening fireworks. Bangladesh's new-ball bowlers have a challenge on their hands. Chris Gayle had recently jokingly remarked that he had made Sohag Gazi famous by hitting him for six off the first ball of a Test. That was when West Indies last toured Bangladesh in 2012, but even on that tour Gayle didn't exactly dominate - Gazi dismissed him three times in Tests and ODIs. The rivalry is set to resume on Tuesday, when Gazi is expected to be picked as a replacement for Farhad Reza TEAM NEWS : West Indies coach Ottis Gibson has said they have to still take a decision on their quick bowling lin ...
Why no disciplinary actions taken by Match Referee after Stuart Broad's comment regarding Umpiring?? Whereas few days ago Sohag Gazi was penalized by Match Referee for making remarks about Umpiring. Curious mind wants to know about this double standard,

What do you think of the Bangladesh 14-member squad for the first Test against Sri Lanka: Mushfiqur Rahim (captain and wk), Tamim Iqbal, Sakib Al Hasan, Nasir Hossain, Mominul Haque, Shamsur Rahman, Mahmudullah Riyad, Imrul Kayes, Abdur Razzaq, Sohag Gazi, Robiul Islam, Rubel Hossain, Alamin Hossain and Marshall Ayub.
WHATEVER happens in the third and final match of the three-match one-day international series at the Fatullah Osman Ali stadium tomorrow, Bangladesh have well and truly reasserted their ascendancy over New Zealand, at least in the shorter version of cricket. The Tigers have won six ODI matches against the Kiwis on the trot, including the 4-0 drubbing back in 2010. A win in the final match of the series, and then, of course, in the Twenty20 international on November 6, would certainly be the perfect icing on the cake. Yet, even if it does not happen, Mushfiqur Rahim and his boys can still hold their heads high.Throughout the series thus far, the local cricketers have played like champions. Indeed, rash shots were there and wickets were thrown away. However, the frequency seems to have gone down significantly. While the series would be memorable for the back-to-back centuries by Mominul, and the century and hat-trick feat by Sohag Gazi, it was ultimately a team effort. Tamim Iqbal, known for his devil-may-d ...
Bowlers secure series win for Bangladesh Sohag Gazi’s all-round show takes Bangladesh to sixth consecutive win over New Zealand Tamim Iqbal became Bangladesh's top run- scorer in One-Day Internationals as his team beat New Zealand by 40 runs in the second game to take an unassailable 2-0 lead in the three-match series. This was Bangladesh’s sixth consecutive win over New Zealand, following a 4-0 victory in 2010 in Bangladesh. Set a target of 248, New Zealand caved in for 207 in 46.4 overs on Thursday (October 31) in Mirpur. Bangladesh had already won Tuesday's series opener by 43 runs. Sohag Gazi, the offspinner, and Mashrafe Mortaza, the veteran right-arm pacer, led Bangladesh's bowling attack, sharing six wickets between them to stifle New Zealand. Gazi had earlier contributed a 24-ball 26 from No. 8 to help his side post a competitive total. Mortaza struck early, bowling Hamish Rutherford for 1 and Gazi took a return catch off Anton Devcich, the other opener. When Abdur Razzak then trapped Grant El ...
Bangladesh clinch series win with one match left. Bangladesh strike bowler Mashrafe Bin Mortaza and off-spinner Sohag Gazi’s brilliant bowling helped their team Bangladesh to crush over the visitor New Zealand 40 runs defeat held at the Sher-e-Bangla National Cricket Stadium in Mirpur on Thursday. Bangladesh off-spinner Sohag Gazi was adjudged the player of the match for his all-round performance. Chasing a 248-run target set by the visiting New Zealand for victory, Bangladesh strike bowler Mashrafe Bin Mortoza brought his team rapid glory when he bowled Kiwi opener Hamish Rutherford in his second over. Things were going in favour of the Tigers as spinners were able to send another two top-order Kiwi batsmen to dressing room within 45 runs. At a point, it was thought that Bangladesh could get another comprehensive win like the previous match. The speculation was changing suddenly when Kiwis’ notable figure Ross Taylor and pinch hitter Corey Anderson made a joint counter and eased the early collapse af ...
Bangladesh sealed the three-match ODI series with a 40-run victory against New Zealand in the second tie on Thursday. Mashrafe Bin Morataza and Sohag Gazi picked up three wickets each to bundle the visitors out for 207 in 46.4 overs, who were chasing 247. The win marked the sixth consecutive ODI win for Bangladesh over New Zealand. Deciding to bat first, Bangladesh made 247 all out with an over to spare. Tamim Iqbal top scored with 58 for the hosts. He reached his 25th ODI fifty from 75 deliveries with the help of five fours and a six before being bowled by Corey Anderson. Bangladesh’s cautious start suffered the first blow when debutant Shamsur Rahman (25) stepped out of his crease to a floated delivery from Nathan McCullum, only to miss the line of the ball and get stumped. Anderson struck next to break the promising second- wicket partnership of 47. Mominul, who made 31 off 34 deliveries with five boundaries, tried to hook a short delivery on the body but top-edged it to the hands of Nathan McCullum ...
New Zealand allrounder Corey Anderson has said that the rain interruption in the first ODI worked in their favour but Rubel Hossain's hat-trick made the difference once play resumed. Rubel's six-wicket haul got Bangladesh off to a good start, and made sure they defeated New Zealand for the fifth time in as many completed games. "The rain actually brought it back to where we would have liked it," Anderson said. "It became a shortened game with the big hitters down the order. You cannot take anything away from Rubel, he bowled very well. Hat-tricks don't come around often. A cluster like that will always make a difference in the game. The hat-trick didn't do us any favours at all." In his short career, Anderson has become the first victim of two hat-tricks. Sohag Gazi trapped him lbw in the first Test, before taking the wickets of BJ Watling and Doug Bracewell. This time it was Rubel who clean bowled Anderson in the 24th over to soon complete his hat-trick and changed the complexion of the game. "We made th ...

Imperious Sangakkara Makes Bangladesh Toil (sadia news english) Published: March 08, 2013 GALLE, Sri Lanka (Reuters) - Kumar Sangakkara struck his 31st test century to equal the Sri Lanka record held by Mahela Jayawardene as the hosts reached 361 for three on the first day of the first test against Bangladesh on Friday. Sangakkara, playing his first competitive match since December after recovering from a finger injury, smashed the hapless Bangladesh attack to all parts before he departed for 142 after he was caught by Jahurul Islam in the covers off Sohag Gazi. He was dropped on 111 when Mohammad Ashraful put down a head high chance at mid on off Gazi who took the other two wickets to fall. "It's a great privilege to equal Mahela's record. Getting runs and scoring more hundreds sometimes you can say there is a selfish element, but if you keep doing that, you benefit and your side benefits as well," said Sangakkara. "It was very satisfying getting back into the runs. Going into this match I had only batte ...

Their ownership wasn't confirmed until the week before the players' auction, so they were quite far behind in terms of planning about their personnel. However, their early acquisition of a strong management will be beneficial for them. It includes Mohammad Salahuddin, the former Bangladesh fielding coach and the man regarded as the guru of Shakib Al Hasan and Mushfiqur Rahim, who is incidentally the Sylhet Royals captain this time. There are only two players from Sylhet Division in the squad - medium-pace bowler Nazmul Hossain and opening batsman Imtiaz Hossain - but the likes of Mushfiqur, Sohag Gazi and Mominul Haque will be required to perform for the team to go beyond the first stage. Among the foreign players, Dwayne Smith, Hamilton Masakadza and Paul Stirling are some of the useful performers, while their Pakistani recruits are relatively unknown. The absence of Andre Russell and Tino Best have hurt the side's chances, but they have included Dirk Nannes - a welcome addition to the pace attack.   Ke ...

OFFspinner Sohag Gazi, who claimed Man-of-the-Match awards on Test and ODI debut during West Indies' ongoing tour of Bangladesh, has been named in the hosts' 14-man squad for the one-off Twenty20. Batsmen Anamul Haque and Mominul Haque, who also debuted during this tour, have made the squad too. The fourth among Bangladesh's debutants, Abul Hasan, who scored a century from No. 10 in the Khulna Test, is the only newcomer to miss out: he is yet to recover from the side strain he suffered in the second ODI in Khulna. The injured Shakib Al Hasan, who was advised six weeks rest due to a shin injury, expectedly wasn't picked. Batsmen Mohammad Ashraful and Junaid Siddique, and allrounder Farhad Reza, who were part of the squad that played the World Twenty20, were not named in this squad. This year, Bangladesh played their most Twenty20s, winning four out of eight games. The match against West Indies is set to be played in Mirpur on December 10. COPY FROM :CRICINFO
It's about sohag gazi & saqlain... The day before the first ODI against West Indies, Sohag Gazi spent close to an hour bowling at Saqlain Mushtaq. The former Pakistan offspinner stood behind one stump, baseball mitt in one hand, on the wicket next to the one where the Bangladesh offspinner would make his ODI debut. Apart from the bowling, the only other activity during the whole exercise was when Saqlain moved the markers. It happened only a few times, to indicate what lines and length to bowl when the bowler switched to around the wicket, but there was very little exchange of words. It was clear that the plans were set and had been spelled out to the youngster, who devotedly carried them out the next day.
Bangladesh v West Indies, 2nd Test, Khulna, 3rd day Samuels, Chanderpaul build Windies lead Marlon Samuels shredded the Bangladesh attack in the morning, reached his maiden Test double hundred and then sat back to watch Shivnarine Chanderpaul breeze to his 27th century, which followed his unbeaten 203 in the Mirpur Test. The Khulna pitch refused to stand up for the third day running and apart from ruing their lack of luck, Bangladesh could do little else as West Indies piled on the lead. They did take two wickets, as they had on day two, but at the cost of 323 runs. Almost unobtrusively, Darren Bravo reached his fourth Test hundred, all of which have come in the subcontinent. His partnership with Samuels swelled to 326, West Indies' sixth-highest ever, before Sohag Gazi ended it by trapping Bravo in front. The one between Samuels and Chanderpaul added 177. Samuels switched gears each session from spectacular to sedate to smooth, with Chanderpaul outscoring him comfortably after lunch. Samuels had taken 82 ...

Cricket: Bangladesh hit back after Powell's twin hundred AFP – 24 minutes ago Opener Kieran Powell smashed a century in each innings before Bangladesh captured late wickets to keep hopes of an unlikely result in the first Test in Dhaka on Friday. The 22-year-old right-handed batsman scored 110 for his second century of the match to anchor his team to 244-6 at close on the fourth day, leading by 215 runs and setting up an intriguing fifth and final day. In the morning Bangladesh were dismissed for 556 runs in their first innings, taking a slender 29-run lead over the West Indies first knock of 527-4 declared. Powell, who made 117 in the first innings, batted with resolve and authority and added 189 runs for the second wicket with Darren Bravo who made 76. But left-arm spinner Shakib Al Hasan dismissed Powell and Denesh Ramdin for five and debutant Sohag Gazi took two wickets to stop the West Indian run flow sparked by Powell and Bravo. Their stand is a new record for the second wicket against Bangladesh, ...
Two left-handers, the youngest and oldest members of their side, combined to put West Indies in a dominant position on the first day in Mirpur. Bangladesh, playing their first Test this year, were competitive before lunch but faded against Kieran Powell and Shivnarine Chanderpaul, who struck centuries on a good batting pitch. The highlight on a tough day for the hosts was the performance of debutant offspinner Sohag Gazi, who overcame the worst-possible initiation into Test cricket to finish with three wickets. Powell and Chanderpaul batted determinedly after West Indies lost three wickets in the morning session. Unlike Chris Gayle and Marlon Samuels, who got carried away after impressivestarts, West Indies' two centurions focused on occupying the crease and seeing off the first few overs after the break when Bangladesh were still fresh from a wicket at the stroke of lunch. The first seven overs after the break yielded no boundaries, but Bangladesh could only contain for so long, as the pair gradually beg ...
