Social Security & President Obama

Social security is primarily a social insurance program providing social protection or protection against socially recognized conditions, including poverty, old age, disability, unemployment and others. The Presidency of Barack Obama began at noon EST on January 20, 2009, when he became the 44th President of the United States. 5.0/5

President Obama is on board for boosting Social Security. Are you?
I applaud President Obama on his historic support for expanding Social Security.
I just finished watching 60 Minutes on CBS. The lead story was an interview of House Speaker John Boehner and the new Majority Leader of the Senate Mitch Mcconnell. The Republicans gained control of the US Senate in the 2014 Offyear Elections. The interview occurred after President Obama's State of the Union speech that took place this past Tuesday night. The US Congress.Senate and House have only 15 percent approval rating and the President has an approval rating of 46 percent. The interview focused on the new Republican government and relationship with President Obama. They acknowledged that both the President and the Congressional Leaders have the best interest of the Country in mind but the President and Republican majority in Congress disagree on how the best interest of the Country is achieved because of a difference in political views. Boehner and McConnell made it clear the new Congress planned to propose across the board tax cuts on all Americans. Something that the Republican government ...
On the first day of the new Congress, Republicans quietly introduced a rules change that would force Social Security into a manufactured crisis. Their goal? Ensure cuts to Social Security benefits down the road. The new rule puts a new restriction on the routine transfer of funds between the Social Security Trust Fund and the Social Security disability program, an action so normal that Congress has approved it 11 times. Unless Congress approves new revenues (which they won't), disabled Americans or seniors will see huge benefit cuts as soon as 2016.Pitting seniors against the disabled for Social Security benefits while huge corporations and CEO's get tax breaks? Come on, Congress, how low can you go?The Republican Congress might want to spend their times playing games with our retirement. But as long as he in the White House, President Obama has the power to veto bills that cut Social Security retirement benefits or disability insurance. A FEW THOUGHTS: 1) republicans led by boehner et al cut a 1,603 page budget bill deal with obama "that will permit funding for the implementation of President Obama's unilateral amnesty of as many as five million illegal aliens through at least Feb. 27, 2015"...the total amount of the bill is approx. $1 trillion...By cutting a deal to fund the Department of Homeland Security through Feb. 27, the House Republican leadership has given President Obama more than two and a half months to move forward with his unilateral amnesty of illegal aliens. During that time, Obama will be able to give illegal aliens visas and Social Security Numbers...this is yet another slap in the face by republicans as they work with obama to shaft the country...and people still defend them... 2) the united nations should be moved to kenya, the sudan, or some other sewer and the muslim group cair should be put there with them...both groups are upset by so-called torture techniques revealed in cia files that were released...what the fi ...
All About Obama's Executive Amnesty In a primetime address on November 20, President Obama made his sales pitch to the American People for a series of immigration executive actions he will sign on November 21 in Las Vegas, Nevada. Here is what you need to know: What actions is Obama taking specifically? The key to Obama's new immigration policy is the creation of one new amnesty program and the expansion of another. Specifically, Obama's new amnesty program will give illegal immigrants who have been in the United States for at least five years, and who are parents of U.S. citizens or legal residents, a three year work permit. This permit will also allow them to obtain a Social Security Number and get a driver's license. Pew estimates that 3.5 million current illegal immigrants will qualify for this program. Obama is also expanding the existing Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals amnesty program. Previously only those illegal immigrants who were born before 1981 and entered the U.S. as a minor before 20 ...
The Constitution is clear. In addition to the power of the purse, the supreme law of the land gives Congress a number of enumerated powers and, in Article 1, Section 8 of the United States Constitution, one of those powers is the power "to establish a uniform rule of naturalization..." Now... the occupant of the White House does have what is known as prosecutorial discretion. For example, Barack Obama could say that he is going to prioritize the prosecution and deportation of illegal aliens who have committed violent felonies. But that's not what Barack Obama is going to do. And he's not just going to simply refuse to enforce our immigration laws. He wants to start giving green cards and work permits and Social Security cards to MILLIONS of illegal aliens, and he ultimately wants to spend taxpayer dollars to fund programs to provide them with assistance in obtaining ObamaCare and Medicaid and Food Stamps and a ton of other goodies from Uncle Sugar. As Senator Jeff Sessions explained: "President Obama's ex ...
Either the Social Security Trust Fund has real assets to pay benefits or it doesn't; President Obama's recent warnings make it clear it doesn't.
Campaign for America's Future Election night was a debacle. Perversely, the Republican scorched-earth obstruction worked. But is that the whole story? In Arkansas, voters raised the Minimum Wage while electing a senator who opposed it. Coloradans defeated an anti-woman “personhood” amendment but elected a man who once supported it. The Republicans turned out the oldest and whitest, also known as their base. They stoked fear of Ebola and a fictional immigrant invasion. They ran commercials about beheadings and sputtered half truths about Health Care reform, the economy and President Obama. So what now? Do we whine and whimper? Or do we fight? Republicans know exactly what they are going to do on the first day of the new session. Do we? They will come with a smile, “ready to govern” and demand changes Americans overwhelmingly do not support. They will insist the President sign off on giveaways to global corporations, approve subsidies for big oil, accept cuts to Social Security and roll back Wall St ...
The people have been getting the shaft from President Obama since January 2009. He has done a splendid job for Wall Street, Banks, and Corporations (including the Insurance Companies) by forcing people to become customers under this joke of a law called The Affordable Care Act. Grab your ankles and reach for the Warming K-Y Lubricant because he's about to give all of us a good screwing. Keystone XL Pipeline, Trans Pacific Partnership, and the "chained CPI" that will reduce all future Social Security payments.are all coming soon from President Obama. To me, he is nothing but a corporate *** The ONLY differences to me between Obama and Bush are: 1.) Obama gives a far more rousing speech off of the teleprompter 2.) Obama's teeth are whiter ;) p.s. I'm as Liberal as it gets when it comes to politics. I voted for Obama in 2008 and in 2012. I voted for him simply because he was the lesser of two evils when compared with John Mccain and Mitt Romney. Unfortunately, our president is nothing more than a corporat .. ...
*THIS* Is a must read! A millennial's perspective. We must understand them instead of shaming them or we WILL lose in 2016. I ask you kindly to go like US Uncut and I'm deeply honored that they've liked mine. Let's support the largest voting bloc in our country. Most of you know by my posts and memes that I am a progressive liberal Democrat from the Elizabeth Warren wing of the Democratic Party (AKA populism). "Open Letter to Democrats From a Disillusioned Young Voter By Carl Gibson, Reader Supported News 07 November 14 Dear Democrats, Are you listening? President Obama says he hears us. He says that people don’t have a reason to show up to vote if the politicians they have to choose from don’t motivate them. He’s partially right. But that’s only part of a much larger problem. To all you would-be elected officials looking for my generation’s support at the polls, listen closely – get populist or get ready to lose bad. 2014’s low voter turnout was historic. .and AGAIN, all the sheeple who voted against President Obama will be expecting clean air and water, public education for their kids, and Social Security!! (Sigh.too bad those can't be taken away from just the ones who asked.)
Message I received from the Democrats this morning (I subscribe to their emails to keep watch) Title: What's next now that Democrats lost the Senate. Dear Darla, President Obama, lead. Before it's too late. Democrats have lost the Senate, and what happens next is going to depend a lot on what President Obama is willing to stand up and fight for. That’s not a comforting thought. But it’s also up to us and how far we’re willing to go to pressure the president to do the right and necessary thing. As we sort through the election results and think about what we as progressive activists should do next, it’s worth thinking about why we lost. We were up against hundreds of millions of dollars in spending by right wing extremists and billionaires. Our electoral system is rigged in perverse ways by state legislatures and election officials in order to curtail the act of voting among minorities and the progressive base. Party committees and candidate campaigns wasted hundreds of millions of dollars on inef . ...
Well I don't know about you but I am certainly excited about the Republicans taking control of the Senate in addition to the House. Now all of our problems will be solved because every problem was President Obama's fault. I guess that won't be an issue now. Looking forward to 4 percent or less unemployment, big tax cuts, balanced budgets, more defense spending, an end to illegal immigration, and cuts to all those freeloaders on food stamps, welfare, Social Security, Medicare, and Medicaid. Oh I almost forgot the new health plan that will replace the Affordable Care Act. And as a bonus, maybe they can figure out a way to keep more people from voting.
The Secret Service is charged with watching the president’s back, but who’s watching his wallet? When his credit card was declined last month while dining in New York, President Obama wondered if he had become a victim of identity theft. “It turned out, I guess I don’t use it enough,” Obama said Friday at the Consumer Financial Protection Bureau. “They thought there was some fraud going on,” he said, chatting while announcing a government plan to tighten security for debit cards that transfer federal benefits like Social Security to millions of Americans. “I was trying to explain to the waitress `No, I really think that I’ve been paying my bills.”‘ Fortunately first lady Michelle Obama was able to whip out a credit card they could use. Identity theft is a growing problem and an estimated 100 million people have been affected by security breaches in the past year at retailers like Target and Home Depot. “Even I’m affected by this,” he said. Increasingly, the midterm elections are trending toward the Republican candidates throughout the nation. While some states are behind the curve -- for instance, North Carolina and Michigan -- many others show mounting GOP leads. Beyond disapproval of President Obama and his policies, the impetus for this trend lies in the renewed focus on National Security, terrorism and Foreign Policy issues that have suddenly gripped the nation. A content analysis of the daily news shows that, with each beheading, the focus on the disastrous events in the Middle East grows. With attack helicopters now flying missions against the Islamic State in Iraq and Syria (ISIS), we are, effectively, in our third Iraq war. Every issue has an innate and largely immutable partisan skew, and voters have come to see each as "belonging" to one party or the other. Only through great effort and massive expenditure can the other party win an edge on a given issue biased against it. Education, environment, poverty, Social Security, the elde ...

Harry B. Lebowitz Mitch Mcconnell just went there. He promised to shutdown the government if Republicans win the Senate majority and President Obama doesn’t agree to brutal budget cuts -- gutting the EPA, repealing Obamacare, slashing Medicare, Medicaid and Social Security and more.1 McConnell’s hostage-taking agenda is simple: Obstruction or destruction. No matter who gets hurt.
President Obama, One Corporate Puppet Among Many By Carl Gibson, Reader Supported News 14 April 13 his year, the New Deal turned 80. And those same New Deal programs championed by FDR, a Democrat, defined the bedrock of the American left political achievements for all others who would seek the presidency. Now, the corporate takeover of our government has proven that those New Deal programs can be slowly dismantled by a Democrat president, as the Obama administration fully digs its heels in on an austerity agenda. He's not the one running the show, but rather, his strings are being pulled by Wall Street bankers and hedge fund managers like Pete Peterson, who is most of the wallet behind the corporate-funded "Fix the Debt" sham campaign. Even one of Fix the Debt's key spokesmen admitted that their goal was to create an "artificial crisis" that would justify gutting Social Security. Jack Lew, Obama's Treasury Secretary, is leading the administration's doublespeak on austerity. In Europe, he's told political ...

5 REASONS OBAMA'S 7.1 MILLION NUMBER IS MEANINGLESS On Tuesday, President Obama triumphantly announced that, with the power of the mainstream media, Hollywood, and the threat of the IRS, the mission had been accomplished: 7.1 million Americans had selected an Obamacare plan. Obama’s tone was nothing short of exuberant: “7.1 million Americans have now signed up for private insurance plans through these market places. 7.1! Yep!” He then went on to criticize those who had expressed objections to Obamacare for its deprivations of plans, doctors, drugs, and liberty: “Why are folks working so hard for people not to have Health Insurance?” Now, it was always foolhardy for Republicans and conservatives to stake their objections to Obamacare on the number of sign-ups; Social Security is going bankrupt despite 100% enrollment. The reality is that Obama was always destined to hit his required numbers because, after all, he has the power of government to compel action. The real problem with Obamacare has li ...
It's a ticking time bomb. That's why I'm hoping you'll sign your Balanced Budget Amendment petitions in support of H.J. Res. 5 and S.J. Res. 7, a bullet-proof Balanced Budget Amendment to your two U.S. Senators and Congressman, which I'll link to in a moment. But first, let me explain why your support is so important. The fact is, during Obama's tenure in office, our national debt has nearly doubled. And the reality is, the $17 trillion national debt we hear so much about is just the tip of the iceberg. When the government's unfunded liabilities for Medicare, Social Security, and federal employees' retirement benefits are counted, American taxpayers are really on the hook for over $86.8 trillion. President Obama and his big-spending allies in Washington, D.C. have been piling on to our national debt every day, and show no signs of slowing down. Rand Paul They've been spending money we don't have for so long, some economists are beginning to question not if the U.S. will ultimately have to declare bankrupt ...
Well, thanks to President Obama and his superior idea for Obama Care our Health Insurance deductible has risen to the point that I can no longer afford to go to the doctor to try to get my back straightened out and fixed to where I can get back to work and get off of Social Security disability Insurance. Florida Republicans decreased the days people could vote on purpose to make it difficult on people living in larger urban areas which has minorities who typically vote for Democrats. Republicans has gerrymandered (RIGGED) Congressional Districts so they cannot be voted out of office. Politic :poop: update... Something you wont hear in mainstream media Obama to Drop Social Security Cuts from New Budget. Social Security cuts that President Obama promised last year apparently aren't going to happen. Back then, many Democrats, including the president, though Social Security cuts should be on the table to strike a budget deal with Republicans. But one year later, the elusive "Grand Bargain" on the budget has been put aside. All indications are that Obama will drop the Social Security-cut proposal from his budget this year. Led by Sen. Elizabeth Warren (D-Mass.) and two other key Senate Democrats, most Democratic lawmakers opposed the cut. What's more, they even favor a Social Security benefit expansion. Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid (D-Nev.) and House Minority Leader Nancy Pelosi. (D-Calif.) applauded Obama for removing the proposal from his budget plan.
Fred Griesbach, AARP ! Dear Angelo, On Tuesday, President Obama released his budget for the 2015 Fiscal Year – and after you sent over a million letters and made tens of thousands of calls, I'm pleased to let you know that the president has taken cuts to Social Security in the form of the chained CPI off the table. As you know, the chained CPI, a feature of Pres. Obama's 2014 budget, would have cut Social Security benefits by $127 billion over the next ten years alone. The cut would have gotten larger and larger with each passing year – making it harder and harder for people to make ends meet. After all the amazing work of activists like you in the last year, we're happy to see the president recognize that Social Security doesn't contribute to the deficit – and that your hard-earned benefits shouldn't be cut in order to bring the deficit under control. Today, with a secure retirement out of reach for millions, Social Security has become more important than ever. It'd be wrong for the President or Co ...
Sen. Bernie Sanders (I-VT), and much of the left, are praising President Obama's budget today because he has dropped his proposal to cut Social Security via Chained CPI.
I am very interested in how President Obama was going to balance his budget and what was going to be in it. Infrastructure? Really? Wasn't infrastructure the main point of the TARP funds? Shovel ready jobs!!! What happened to that money? Oh yeah!! The "GREEN" initiative. We gave it to Solyndra and that battery company. "Dust in the wind" How about cutbacks on the entitlement programs? No such thing in this budget. Spend more. Raise the debt$8.3 trillion over the next decade. Oh, by the way. If someone pays in to Social Security all their lives, when you give them THEIR money back, it's not an entitlement!!! VA benefits are not entitlements, they put their *** on the line for you!!
For those of you who don't know ...at the very bottom of this article the attorney who authored this is John Wayne's daughter, also a Graduate of USC... SSN 042-68-4425 Well, Well, Well, it looks like someone thoroughly checked this out! I was wondering who was going to do research into B.O.'s SSN's numbers... Jean Paul Luwig or Barak Hussein Obama? SSN # 042-68-4425 WOW, read this, it's short - very interesting. An intensive investigation has revealed the identity of the man whose Social Security Number (SSN) is being used by President Obama: Jean Paul Ludwig, who was born in France in 1890,immigrated to the United States in 1924,and was assigned SSN 042-68-4425 (Obama's current SSN) rec'd on or about March 1977. Mr. Ludwig lived most of his adult life in Connecticut . Because of that, his SSN begins with the digits 042, which are among only a select few reserved for Connecticut residents. Barack H. You know I work hard for my money. Most of my life I have worked 2 jobs.I don't like seeing people on welfare year after year after year. But, the fact of the matter is the welfare system was in place many many years before President Obama took over. Now I come in contact with many poor people , some who have lost their jobs from downsizing.Others have been laid off.I have talked to older people on social security who would starve if they didn't have food stamps.I go to Roxbury and Dorchester everyday and I talk to people from Lynn too. When you have a nice home and you and your wife have a nice job, which is nice. Sometimes if you never come in contact with poor people who are homeless and cold living in shelters, living off food stamps , and other government assistance programs help with heat in apts.Maybe money for diapers for their babies. We Are A Work In Progress & I Am Proud To Be A Part Of Progress Forward As Chairwoman of the Torrance County Democratic Party, recently I was accused of being a "Non-thinking" Democrat, who will support any democrat, regardless of their corruption. This person went on to bad mouth me to every person that would listen at our Delegate's Convention. He claimed that because President Obama was a complete corporate sell-out and a completely corrupt person, and that I supported him, he very directly implied that I must be just like him. While I do not agree with President Obama on many things, but I am thankful that he was elected over John Mccain and Mitt Romney. When I think of all the letters that I have sent directly to our president, in opposition of many of his proposed positions regarding many things, from Chained CPI on Social Security to my opposition to the proposed XL Pipeline, not to mention the many petitions I have signed, naturally I have been very offended by this man's words and his obvious d . ...

Last year, President Obama offered to compromise Social Security inviolability on the alter of the plutocrats and their advocates (the GOP and the ConservaDems) who want to cut-- if not abolish-- social insurance. It was a bad mistake but, lucky for America, the Republicans, who had demanded it, refused to compromise and Chained CPI wasn't adopted. This year, the president has decided to focus on his State of the Union message about opportunity as his budgetary vision. It's a reflection that the budget is falling rapidly already and would fall more if Congress passes immigration reform. AP reported Thursday that there will be no Chained CPI cuts in this year's budget-- at least not Obama's. Ryan, of course, will have that… and worse. Part of this victory for progressives had to do with mobilizing against Chained CPI cuts, as has been reported lately in the press. We haven't come across a single House Republican who doesn't back Chained CPI cuts to Social Security, from Budget Committee chair Paul Ryan, ...

This blog is right on point and is well worth the time to read. If America is ever to return the great country it was this seems to be the route to take. Give a read and let me know what you think. December 23, 2013 Robert Borosage The Beltway crowd has discovered populism. Senator Elizabeth Warren’s surging popularity from her aggressive defense of Social Security and demand for Wall Street accountability has triggered talk of a populist challenge to Hillary Clinton in 2016. Bill De Blasio indicted New York’s Gilded Age inequality in his stunning victory in the New York Mayoral race. This month, President Obama returned to his campaign themes, delivering a speech calling inequality “the defining challenge of our time.” Republicans, preoccupied with their Tea Party zealots, mostly have avoided joining the debate, but the Wall Street wing of the Democratic Party raised the alarm. In an incoherent article appropriately placed in the Wall Street Journal, the New Democrats at the Third Way scorned War ...
Many Americans may not be aware that a Law Enforcement officer who apprehends someone for speeding and discovers the person is illegally in the country does nothing. They just release them on the spot.   It is even being applied to people in prison and jails. How did we get here? In early 2009 there was an Immigration and Customs Enforcement  raid, initiated and planned while President Bush was in office. In a statement about the operation, ICE said they were investigating criminal activity. They discovered hiring records revealing a significant number of people who were using bogus Social Security Numbers and counterfeit documents. They found 26 illegal immigrants working at this company. It was a completely legitimate and justified Law Enforcement action, but President Obama had just taken office and he had clearly promised this kind of thing wouldn't happen. Shortly thereafter, certain pro-amnesty groups criticized him. As a result, Secretary Napolitano vowed she would ``get to the bottom of it.'' An ...
Budget Bill Sent to White House: The Senate on Wednesday evening passed and sent to President Obama a budget that averts another government shutdown, eases sharp spending cuts known as sequestration and spares Social Security, Medicare and Medicaid from proposed cuts in benefits. In what he called a difficult decision, Sen. Bernie Sanders voted with the 64 - 36 majority to pass the budget. He voiced disappointment that it does nothing to create jobs and continues tax breaks for profitable corporations. His decision to vote for the bill boiled down to a choice between the “lesser of two evils,” Sanders said in an interview minutes after the vote with MSNBC’s Ed Schultz. Watch the interview:
Senator Schatz voted to advance the two-year Bipartisan Budget Act, which moved forward in the Senate today with a vote of 67-33. From Senator Schatz: “In a divided government, the people expect responsible leaders to find ways to govern and work together. For too long, the United States government has been lurching from crisis to manufactured crisis and using short–term stop gaps to fund the government – eroding the American People's confidence and hurting the economy. “This two-year budget moves us beyond the reckless threats of government shutdown, and lays a clear path to end sequestration and restore the appropriations process that Hawai‘i depends on, so I will support the agreement. Washington has to cooperate and work with President Obama to move the country and our economy forward. While this is not the exact bill I would craft on my own, this is much-needed cooperation in a town where compromise has become a dirty word. “This agreement rolls back the senseless sequester cuts that ...

We sure did. Than you Lyndon Johnson for Medicare and thank you Franklin Roosevelt for Social Security. A Bronx cheer to President Obama for offering to cut both programs!
Keith Olbermann Fan Page via Morning Joe I find it amusing that Nicolle Wallace is accusing this White House of incompetence. After all, she served as communications chief during the presidency of George W. Bush and in his 2004 re-election campaign. Was the George W. Bush administration incompetent? Jeez.let me count the ways, Nicolle. 9/11 attacks, Iraq with no WMD's, No Child Left Behind without paying for it, Medicare Part D without paying for it, Katrina, tried to privatize Social Security, to name a few. "W" was the Nitwit Commander in Chief and she talks about President Obama's incompetence? And Ms. Wallace also served as a senior adviser for John Mccain's presidential campaign which gave us an improperly vetted.drum roll please.Miss Mama Grizzly herself.the nincompoop incompetent Sarah Palin. You worked with these guys Nicolle. Didn't have a problem then did you? I think Ms. Nicolle Wallace needs to get a grip. Look within Ms. Wallace. Look within. Your past associations speak volumes.
RATING THE PRESIDENTS This was published October2, 2013 in my local neswpaper. Sadly I must add a codicil to the BHO section. - President Obama has been shown to be a serial prevaricator - Sad but true. - I began in 1933, so I’ll begin with FDR, Franklin Delano Roosevelt. A patrician of the Hudson Valley though rooted in the Dutch of New Amsterdam. He gave us Social Security and the Congress made it the greatest Ponzi scheme in history. We rallied behind him to conquer the Fascists, Nazis and samurai. He did not bring us out of a Great Depression, though some insist he did. HST is next. Harry S. Truman, a fine man and true heart. He did not add to distrust of government even when he tried to break the United Mine Workers strike. Then comes DDE, Dwight David Eisenhower. The only big lie he was caught in was one that he took for the country when Gary Powers’ U2 was shot down over Russia. Otherwise, what history will judge to be one of our great presidents. JFK, John Fitzgerald Kennedy is next. The disa ...
Republicans want President Obama to fail by any means necessary. Obama wants Affordable Healthcare for all Americans. Republicans only want things that are pursuant to the Rich and Greedy. The One-Percent of America. The Carl Rove and Koch Brothers. Billionaires that are buying representation in Congress. They do not believe in the poor and downtrodden members of the American Society. They bust Union Representation to prevent Fair Wages for jobs. They want to stop Medicare and Social Security benefits.
Today's news from Sen. Bernie Sanders (I-Vt.): Don't Cut Social Security: With eyes now turning toward a new Budget Committee, some liberals are worried about President Obama's proposal to cut Social Security. "The president is wrong on this issue, and I hope he rethinks it." Sen. Bernie Sanders, member of the new Budget Committee, told The Wall Street Journal and KPAM-AM in Portland, Ore. "The president is about to run into a major base problem if he tries to do this," said Rep. Keith Ellison, co-chairman of the Congressional Progressive Caucus, referring to using the new formula, the chained consumer-price index, to determine benefits. "My advice to him is: Don't do it." Sanders Calls Out Deficit Hypocrites: Sen. Sanders on Saturday offered a glimpse of how he might tackle the budget. "The hypocrisy is extraordinary. When it comes to Medicaid, we just can't afford to provide Health Insurance to our children [but] when it comes to going to a war that we never should have gotten into [in Iraq], no problem ...

Obama and Congress Set to Sell Out American People October 11th, 2013 • 3:56 PM After 11 days of government shutdown and panic mongering over the looming debt ceiling deadline, President Obama and Congressional leaders from both parties appear ready to cut a murderous austerity deal, hoping that the vast majority of Americans will be so relieved that the government has gone back to work that they will miss the genocidal consequences. Thursday night, into Friday morning, House and Senate Republicans met at the White House [1] with Obama and Treasury Secretary Jack Lew to finally work out a deal to fund the Federal Government and extend the debt ceiling. According to participants in the Friday morning Senate meeting with Obama, the topic went far beyond the immediate crisis to an "indepth talk" about future spending and the government debt crisis. All along, Republicans have been demanding deep cuts in Medicare and Social Security, even beyond the Obamacare slash and burn consequences and the devastating ...
Yesterday, National Economic Council Director Gene Sperling made some Democrats nervous when he told attendees of a breakfast event that President Obama would sign a two-week debt limit increase. The nervous Democrats thought this was a sign Obama was caving on his debt limit demands. It was not. Signing a short-term debt limit deal is entirely consistent with Obama's current position on the debt limit, which, as Press Secretary Jay Carney reiterated yesterday, is that Obama will never negotiate on the debt limit ever again. What many in Washington have failed to grasp is that, if forever is Obama's timeline for not negotiating on the debt limit, then every debt limit hike that is not a full repeal of the debt limit is a "short-term" debt limit hike. One year. One day. One trillion dollars. One dollar. These are all equal debt limit hikes in the White House's eyes. This is what makes Speaker John Boehner's R-OH current pu pu platter offer such an embarrassment: it doesn't come close to matching the scope ...
WHAT HAS PRESIDENT OBAMA DONE specifically for Transgender Americans? Here is a short list: (BTW - New history-making accomplishments keep rolling out, despite the unconscionable gridlock fomented by openly anti-Trans elements that have held this Administration's positive actions back from going "full steam ahead"): PRESIDENT OBAMA’S ACCOMPLISHMENTS for TRANSGENDER AMERICANS President Obama has taken unprecedented steps to expand rights, benefits, and resources for transgender people. From jobs and Health Care to veterans’ benefits and safer working, learning and traveling environments, the well-being of transgender Americans has been a priority of this Administration. PRESIDENT OBAMA TOOK PIVOTAL STEPS TO ENSURE THAT TRANSGENDER AMERICANS HAVE STRONGER PROTECTIONS AGAINST HATE CRIMES AND DISCRIMINATION • On October 28, 2009, President Obama signed the Matthew Shepard and James Byrd Jr. Hate Crimes Prevention Act into law, making it a federal crime to assault another individual because of his or her ...
President Obama heartily supports the Justice Department's efforts, saying that his administration "will use tools available through the Voting Rights Act to keep jurisdictions from enacting laws that have the effect of preventing people from voting," as reported by the AP via the Huffington Post. After being placed on hold approximately seventeen times, the nice ObamaCare lady said that if one does not have identification, one needs to provide a Social Security card. Of course, in order to obtain such a card, the ObamaCare enrollee needs two forms of identification, as noted by the Social Security Administration. President Obama made the (outrageous) statement that "Health Insurance is a right," during a weekly address last month. If voting is a right and Health Insurance is a right, why is it discriminatory to ask for identification to vote, but not to enroll in Health Insurance?
In his latest refocusing on economy Monday, President Obama touted falling deficits as one of his greatest accomplishments. He’s right: the deficit has finally dropped below a trillion dollars, which isn’t much to crow about. But don’t get used to even that. The non-partisan Congressional Budget Office just threw a big bucket of cold water on Obama’s week long economic fiesta. They issued a report warning that Obama and Congress are cutting the wrong spending. They’re cutting discretionary spending, like weapons, National Parks and science research, which was already declining. Meanwhile, as Baby Boomers retire, spending on the big three entitlement programs – Medicare, Medicaid and Social Security – as a percentage of GDP is expected to double in 25 years. The CBO says that unless something is done, by 2023, just 10 years away, the deficit will rise to a level that’s considered unsustainable. By 2038, it would be nearly twice that, and the accumulated national debt will reach 100 p ...
Contrary to popular belief...I do not hate Republicans. I hate the NRA and the Tea Bag party and the rich trying to change what the Republican's use to stand for. Being concerned about the human condition in America as well as other places does not make me a bleeding heart, it makes me human. Look at any current findings and you will see that the top 2% of wage earners in America are making more money than all of the Middle Class put together...and this is suppose to be during our "bad" time. How's come the rest of American's income *** when the top 2% are making money hand over fist. Are they not suppose to be creating good paying jobs for us. Isn't that why George W. Bush gave them those outrageous tax cuts that continued even into the first term of President Obama's administration? You want to know another thing...those tax cuts came from the surplus that Bill Clinton's 8 years in office started to create, and Social Security was in the black. Yep those funds were going to be paying down the n ...

Options Michael Lee Duncan Well that's just dandy, Hussein. You're going to cut SS by 12% of the DEFICIT in order to spend more money on something else. Say, re-installing Morsi? "Democrats love to claim that Republicans are cutting Social Security and Medicare, but President Obama is set to propose just that in a budget proposal next week, the New York Times reported Friday. But Obama will agree to the cuts in growth only if Republicans agree to raise taxes on the rich. According to the Times, Obama's budget will "embody the final compromise offer" he made to House Speaker John Boehner last year. According to a senior administration official, the budget Obama will present to Congress next Wednesday would reduce the deficit by $1.8 trillion over 10 years and will include a revised inflation adjustment called “chained CPI” that would curb cost-of-living increases in Social Security and other benefit programs. The Times said that "some Democrats and advocacy groups to Mr. Obama’s left" have already mo ...
True Story: A couple of days ago, my husband and I met a couple that is here to check out Ecuador as a place to relocate to for their retirement. Knowing that we are politically Liberal, the man almost immediately declared himself as a staunch Conservative. While complaining that his wife is trapped in a job (she wants to leave) solely for the medical insurance, the husband went off on a tirade about Obamacare. The irony escaped him completely. Without an ounce of self-awareness, he mentioned that he is collecting 3 union pensions which will finance his retirement, along with government checks from Social Security. He explained that they just "have to get out of the U.S. because of the way things are going" under President Obama. When asked what specifically has changed so drastically in the last 4 years that would necessitate them abandoning their beloved Tennessee, the man struggled to name one thing, eventually admitting, "It's just a feeling in my gut." He then griped, "Well, I don't want to have to . ...

FOX is as duplicitous as the rest of the Alphabet soup networks.were Obamwat is concerned. There was someone within Fox News…who actually went to Sheriff Arpaio and Mike Zullo [the leader of Arpaio's Cold Case Posse team investigating Obama's phony Birth Certificate and strange Connecticut-issued Social Security Number] and said: “I am very sorry. I have tried to get Fox News to tell the truth on this. I have looked at your evidence that you presented at your press conferences. I know you have the goods on President Obama. I know that he has multiple cases of document fraud that can be proven in a court of law. I wanted Fox to run a story on that, and they said ‘Absolutely no way.’ So I am here to apologize to you because my network will not tell the truth.”
BLANKLEY: The authoritarian temptation When democracy get messy, despotic types seek its overthrow In the weeks during and since the debt-ceiling debate, the media, pushed by the Democratic Party, has peddled the propaganda that our government is broken - because the Republicans in the House of Representatives negotiated a better deal than the liberals wanted. Though it was President Obama and Treasury Secretary Timothy F. Geithner who, during the debate, said they couldn’t assure payment of Social Security or interest on the federal debt payments (while Republican leaders guaranteed there would be no lapse in such payments) it was the GOP that the media accused of irresponsible threats. It is par for the course for the losing side in a congressional fight to bewail the end of democracy in America. But it is rare for the major media to push - and the broader public to bite on - such a line. Yet the surprisingly gullible Wall Street and European opinion leaders bought into that propaganda. Indeed, Standa ...
Vol.2, No. 153 The Rooney Report “All the News That Fits on One Page” Saturday, June 1, 2013 National: Tornadoes ripped through Oklahoma again yesterday leaving five people dead, including a mother and her baby who were sucked out of their car. Vehicles were tossed off the highway and tractor-trailers overturned. A storm-chasing photo van was flipped and smashed. Storms in Missouri and Arkansas also killed six people Thursday and Friday. More bad weather could arrive Tuesday. ➢A Texas man is under investigation as the source of poisoned letters sent to President Obama and NY Mayor Michael Bloomberg. His wife called the FBI describing suspicious activity by her husband. The letters containing ricin were mailed in Shreveport, La. and the sender appeared to have extreme objections to gun control. ➢Medicare has at least two additional years to live, according to The White House. The Medicare Trust Fund now looks like it will be emptied in 2026. The outlook for Social Security remains the same: broke b ...
Oh, boy. I watched the debate for Missouri's 8th Congressional District for which we vote on June 4th. Here are the candidates: Steve Hodges (D) Jason Smith (R) Doug Enyart (Consititution) Bill Slantz (Libertarian) Steve Hodges was the most sensible of them all. He is on the conservative side of Democrat; but his responses were reasonable and showed he is using good logic. Steve does NOT want to cut Social Security. Jason Smith was like a cardboard version of the do nothing Republicans in DC. He wants do away with corporate regulations. Has unrealistic ideas about education --just the same old song all republicans sing. You would think he was running against President Obama and Nancy Pelosi instead of the names listed above. He wants to cut Social Security. Bill Slantz wants to do away with all regulations of any kind, any where. He wants to eliminate the IRS, DEA, EPA, and Income Taxes on all people and corporations. He wanted to cut Social Security and the Department of Education. (Wonder how ...
Today's news from Sen. Bernie Sanders (I-Vt.): Disabled Vets: Veterans’ service organizations are stepping out in opposition to a House bill that would tie Disabled Veterans benefits cost-of-living adjustments to Social Security increases. Sen. Bernie Sanders, the Senate veterans’ committee chairman, remains a “key ally” in opposition a stingier consumer price index proposed by President Obama that would cut yearly inflation adjustments, Military.com reported. Social Security: Sen. Elizabeth Warren joined Sen. Sanders and others on Wednesday at a summit on protecting Social Security benefits, The (Springfield, Mass.) Republican reported. When Franklin Delano Roosevelt signed Social Security into law in 1935, he envisioned the important New Deal legislation being strengthened over time. Instead, it has been attacked relentlessly over the last 80 years. Most recently, President Obama's fiscal 2014 budget proposal includes a change in…

Mega barf alert! Obusha begging and bribing the GOP to let him slash Social Security, Medicare, and Medicaid so Exxon Mobil can keep its tax subsidies: At GOP outreach dinner, Obama picks up the tab 06 Mar 2013 As part of his effort to improve relations between the White House and Capitol Hill, President Obama dined with a small group of Republican Senators this evening and, according to the White House, he paid for the dinner out of his own pocket. Sens. Tom Coburn, R-Okla.; Kelly Ayotte, R-N.H.; Saxby Chambliss, R-Ga.; John Hoeven, R-N.D.; John Mccain, R-Ariz.; Bob Corker, R-Tenn.; Mike Johanns, R-Neb.; Lindsey Graham, R-S.C.; Richard Burr, R-N.C.; Dan Coats, R-Ind., Ron Johnson, R-Wis.; and Pat Toomey, R-Pa.; are among the senators who joined the president for dinner tonight. The group dined at the Jefferson Hotel a few blocks from the White House.
INFORMATION DISSEMINATION: Obama Offers To Cave: It looks like President Obama may cave in to Republicans in hopes that they’ll cave to him. Obama told lawmakers on both sides of the aisle that he would consider cuts to to social programs like Medicare and Social Security in hopes that the move would convince Republican leaders to raise taxes and ultimately make a deal to mitigate the crippling economic damage of Friday’s sequester, according to Reuters. It’s as if Obama forgot that he won reelection in part on promises to raise taxes on the rich. But as The New York TimesPaul Krugman and the Washington Post’s Ezra Klein note, Obama’s efforts at compromise will likely be for naught. Every time the president gives Republicans what they want they just ask for more, the two write. And it looks like they might be right; on Sunday, Speaker of the House John Boehner repeated his stubborn line that Republican leaders wouldn’t consider budging on the tax issue. Meanwhile as politicians argue, the ...
Speaker Boehner Should Be Charge With Treason Speaker John Boehner should be arrested for Treason against the United States. He has sworn an oath to defend the Constitution of The United States, in reality he has done the complete opposite. Ever since he has been the Speaker the credit rating of the United States has been lowered, the economy in near collapse and struggling to recover. His efforts to negotiate with President Obama can only be described as worthless. He has not made an honest effort to serve All the people, just a few of his friends. Now with another deadline passed it is painfully obvious to anyone one that John Boehner serves John Boehner and what is good for him. He would like to see the United States default on it's debt, would like to see thousands lose their jobs(except his). Millions on Social Security to lose their ability to pay their bill, but life will go on for John Boehner, he will be able to pay his bills and buy food, but he could care less about the millions who are sufferin ...
THE SEQUESTER & THE DEFICIT... WE'RE HAVING THE WRONG CONVERSATION! Nobel Prize winning economist and columnist Paul Krugman sat down the MSNBC's Ed Schultz this Friday evening to discuss the recent madness we've been watching with this budget sequestration, which President Obama signed into law this Friday evening. Once again we find Krugman being one of the few voices of reason who is allowed some air time on our corporate media, discussing the fact that this deficit fetishism we're seeing from our politicians is exactly the wrong conversation we should be having right now. What we should be talking about first and foremost is getting Americans back to work. It was also good to hear some push back against the constant chatter we're hearing from the Villagers in the media who are continually pushing for Chained CPI, and pretending as though cutting Social Security benefits in exchange for "Tax Reform" -- a.k.a. lowering taxes on rich people and corporations -- is something anyone should think is acceptab ...
It's getting close to "Tax Day" and there has been some "chatter" regarding the accuracy of President Obama's pledge that "people currently making less than $250,000 will not see their taxes increase by one thin dime". I have just completed my 2012 taxes, so thought I'd give a first-hand accounting, rather than some parroted political talking points. First off, I'm retired and make considerably less than $250,000. Saying that, we retired folks did receive a very modest cost of living increase from Social Security last year. This increase caused my Adjusted Gross Income to rise slightly. Using the Standard Deduction once again... I'm here to report that my federal tax burden decreased by $10, and my state tax burden decreased by $6. That's right... I made more and paid less. Thank you President Obama, you are a man of your word.
If no cuts to Social Security, why must the president include "protections for the vulnerable?" At the White House website on February 21 there was posted the president's final offer to Boehner on deficit reduction. A Balanced Plan to Avert the Sequester and Reduce the Deficit In the middle of all the cuts that are listed is this sentence: Spending savings from Superlative CPI with protections for vulnerable From what I have read Superlative CPI is either the president's version of Chained CPI or they are the very same. I have read both. I have to wonder why the vulnerable need protecting? From what? If there are no cuts intended why is there a need for protection? Jay Carney told us in December that President Obama included it in the negotiations to find common ground with the Republicans. I find myself resenting that very much. From the White House transcript: Why Chained CPI was included by Obama MR. CARNEY: Well, let’s be clear about one thing: The President didn’t put it on the table. This is som ...
Craig Anderson This needs to be looked into. A National Biometric I.D.?? When the Social Security system was started back in 1935, few envisioned that their new "Social Security Number" would eventually be needed to have a phone, cable/satellite TV service, electric service, natural gas, life insurance, obtain a credit card, Health Care, purchase firearms, file taxes, obtain a job or to have a drivers license. The Social Security Number has provided a key for nearly anyone to invade your privacy, destroy your credit and to unlock any private aspect of your life. This is one of the reasons why identity theft is so widespread and rampant in this Country! The Washington Post and the Wall Street Journal report that President Obama and at least 8 Senators are now calling for a National ID Card, with a computer chip and other biometric features, that would be issued to EVERYONE. This is being sold under the guise of controlling immigration by enabling potential employers to establish immigration status. We're . ...

WORLD NEWS – USA OBAMA, SIMPSON-BOWLES DUEL OF AUSTERITY PLANS February 20, 2013 • 10:23AM COMMENT : UNDER OBAMA FOR MANY GREECE HAS ALREADY ARRIVED IN THE USA : IT IS CRIMINAL AS AMERICA ALREADY HAS A BLUE PRINT TO FIX THE COUNTRY AND MAKE IY A GREAT COUNTRY AGAIN President Obama and his Golems — the austerity freaks Alan Simpson and Erskine Bowles — traded proposals today for deep cuts in entitlement programs which keep senior citizens alive, all the while attacking "Congress" for failing to be as "smart" about austerity as these three claim to be. Simpson and Bowles were guest speakers at the Politico Breakfast event, and released new and more vicious demands for cuts of $2.4 trillion (2014-2023) over and above the estimated $2.7 trillion in cuts/caps/tax increases already enacted since the end of 2010. And that $2.4 trillion they crave to cut does not include cutting down Social Security, which they propose to do "on a separate track" through applying the chained CPI to benefits and raisi ...
Alan Simpson, Republican Senator from Wyoming and co-chair of President Obama's deficit commission, calls senior citizens the "Greediest Generation" as he compared Social Security to a Milk Cow with 310 million teats. Here's a response in a letter from Patty Myers, a career school teacher in Montana ... I think she is a little ticked off! She also tells it like it is! "Hey Alan, let's get a few things straight! by Patty Myers 1. As a career politician, you have been on the public dole *** for FIFTY YEARS. 2. I have been paying Social Security taxes for 48 YEARS (since I was 15 years old. I am now 63). 3. My Social Security payments, and those of millions of other Americans, were safely tucked away in an interest bearing account for decades until you political pukes decided to raid the account and give OUR money to a bunch of zero losers in return for votes, thus bankrupting the system and turning Social Security into a Ponzi scheme that would make Bernie Madoff proud. 4. Recently, just like Lucy & ...
For anyone who caught President Obama's State of the Union speech Tuesday (and the Republican response), we're probably looking at a big political fight over Social Security and Medicare. We all knew the costs of these programs would rise when the Baby Boom generation started to retire. In fact, Social Security largely planned for this back in the early 1980s so it doesn't require much in the way of alteration. Medicare is the program that's going to be the bigger issue. Medical costs continue to rise and people use Medicare because it's a good program. Here's a few guidelines I'd suggest when talking about cuts/changes to Medicare: 1. The standard of care must remain high. We're talking about the health of our senior population, which is essential to life, liberty and the pursuit of happiness. We cannot be horse trading human lives here. There is not an acceptable number of deaths and debilitating conditions that could otherwise be prevented we can tolerate on the balance sheet. 2. Medicare must be prese ...

So, the Republicans are opposed to: Any gun control bill that might reduce the amount of violence and save lives; An increase in the Minimum Wage that would raise full-time workers out of poverty; Eliminating the tax loopholes that redistribute wealth from the Middle Class to the wealthy; Doing anything to offset the effects of climate change, which is bringing more violent storms, causing billions in damages and significant loss of life; Any investment in education, infrastructure and innovation that would lift the economy more than anything else we could do (according to the conservative Harvard Business School that has issued a major report on the economy). What are they for: destroying Social Security, Medicare, Medicaid, anything that helps the poor, the old, the sick; helping the wealthy continue to get wealthier at the expense of everyone else; keeping certain groups of people (Democrats) from having the right to vote; destroying President Obama in any way they can.
Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid has ruled out Social Security cuts in any plan to replace the sequester. In the State of the Union Address, President Obama can either stand with Harry Reid and Senate Democrats–or betray them.
WHAT OTHERS ARE SAYING In Fiscal Year 2011, total federal and state spending on the roughly 80 means-tested federal welfare programs reached $927 billion. More than 100 million people, or a third of the U.S. population, received aid from at least one of these programs (Social Security and Medicare are not included in these figures). Since the beginning of the War on Poverty in the mid-1960s, Government has spent $19.8 trillion (in inflation-adjusted 20ll dollars) on means- tested welfare. By comparison, the combined cost of all the wars in American history - from the Revolutionary War through the current war in Afghanistan - has been $6.98 trillion (in 2011 dollars) . Combined annual federal and state welfare spending will reach $156 trillion in 2022; overall, President Obama plans to spend $12.7 trillion on means-tested welfare in the next 10 years. Wow! THIS is not healthy: "More than 47 million Americans now depend on [food stamps], an almost incredible record, for it is 15 percent of the population compared with the 7.9 percent who received food stamps from 1970 to 2000. Meanwhile, nearly 11 million Americans are now collecting federal disability checks from Social Security, and half have signed on since President Obama came to office. In 1992, there was one person on disability for every 35 workers. Today it is one for every 16. " - Mortimer Zuckerman
On February 15th, the Supreme Court has scheduled a full court review of the DC District Court's decision regarding President Obama's recent "recess" appointments. You say you haven't heard about this in the mainstream media? Do you know why the FULL court review is being called? It seems there is a question about the president's Social Security Number. Strangely, it seems the person who owned that number died a long long time ago. It gets even stranger folks... the records show that relative of Michelle's changed the record in the database. It really is that blatant, believe it or not. Chief Justice Roberts is curious why the DC Court refused to act on the evidence presented on constitutional grounds that Obama didn't even have the legitimacy of the presidency to make those appointments. It acted on the other constitutional argument presented, but ignored this one. Oh no... that is not allowed. Dr. Orly Taitz has successfully argued to the Supreme Court, and now they are going to look into this m ...
The U.S. Government owes the Social Scecurity Trust Fund 2.5 Trillion dollars. So, when you hear Republicans and some Democrats talk about slashing Social Security benefits because the system is going to be insolvent is a few years. They are lying to all of us. If they would stop raiding the Social Security Trust Fund, there would be enough funds there. Folks, there are no problems with social security. If you can remember the term "Lock Box" coined by Vice-President Al Gore during the 2000 Presidential race, that was the reason, Mr. Gore wanted to keep the Trust Fund out of reach of the Congress. Well, massive tax cuts for the very rich and two wars being fought and the costs were never reflected in the budgets submitted by President Bush. Thus, the reason we are where we are. President Obama came and included the costs of the two wars into the budgets, the folks who created the debts are now saying that he, President Obama, created the debts. Yes, he added to the debts with the Stimulus. Without the Sti ...
I did not write this, but I definitely agree ... I do not HATE President Obama. I disagree with his POLICIES. He seems to be against everything I believe in, and to be for the policies I do not trust. I believe in personal responsibility and individual liberty, the Constitution as it was originally intended, small and controlled government, spending no more than you take in, and allowing people to make their own decisions and experience their ow...n consequences. I believe that the money I earn belongs to ME, and I should allow the government to use only what's needed for mutual defense, public infrastructure that we all use, and for specific activities enumerated in the Constitution. I believe the Commerce Clause has been abused for decades and twisted into something the Writers of the Constitution would never have condoned. I believe that run-away entitlements are by far our biggest spending problem and, if we don't do something to reign in Medicare and Social Security, our economy is doomed. I believe ...
Via G Tom Wilson Something my wife just wrote to Reid's website. Think she hit the nail on the head? I wish I would have saved her first email. Dear Sen. Reid: This is by way of a postscript to my earlier email. Happy now, smart guy? A U.S. Appeals Court just ruled that recess appointments made by President Obama (and, by extension, their actions as recess appointees) are unconstitutional. Without filibuster reform, which you so neatly scuttled, what do you think the chances are that any Obama appointee for any judicial post or federal regulatory position is going to be approved by this Senate (and your buddy Mitch Mcconnell)? Good job. You've just earned yourself a primary. I'm on Social Security, but I swear, I'll send as little as a dollar week to any Progressive Nevada Democrat that challenges you, starting tomorrow. If I could afford it, I'd move to Nevada and take you on myself. In the meantime, I'm going on every Progressive website in the world and urge Democrats to boycott your state until you're ...
A report in The Hill newspaper last night suggested that Sen. Charles Schumer (D-N.Y.) may be floating a proposal that includes cuts to Social Security and Medicare. If Sen. From James Taranto: Potemkin Prosperity If Chief Justice John Roberts thought upholding ObamaCare would be sufficient to win him the approval of left-liberal critics in the press, an editorial in today's New York Times ought to disabuse him of that notion. The Times uses the occasion of Roberts's swearing-in of President Obama to a second term to launch a gratuitous attack on Roberts, whom it compares unfavorably with Obama: The Obama and Roberts visions of America are very different. No disagreement is more fundamental than that about the connection between justice and prosperity. To Mr. Obama, prosperity enables justice and vice versa. Persuasively [snort], he said in his address, "Together, we discovered that a free market only thrives when there are rules to ensure competition and fair play." . . . And commitments to justice, like Medicare, Medicaid and Social Security, he said, "do not make us a nation of takers; they free us to take the risks that make this country great." The Roberts court, on the ...
A Letter I Wish Progressive Groups Would Send to Their Members by Norman Solomon on January 23, 2013 By Norman Solomon Dear Progressives, With President Obama’s second term underway and huge decisions looming on Capitol Hill, consider this statement from Howard Zinn: “When a social movement adopts the compromises of legislators, it has forgotten its role, which is to push and challenge the politicians, not to fall in meekly behind them.” With so much at stake, we can’t afford to forget our role. For starters, it must include public clarity. Let’s face it: despite often nice-sounding rhetoric from the president, this administration has continued with a wide range of policies antithetical to progressive values. Corporate power, climate change and perpetual war are running amok while civil liberties and economic fairness take a beating. President Obama has even put Social Security and Medicare on the table for cuts. Last fall, the vast majority of progressives voted for Obama to prevent the preside ...
Today - Reagan worshippers Across America are freaking out after President Obama's Second Inaugural Address, because he laid out a vision for America that puts an end to the Reagan Revolution and imagines a nation in which "we the people," through small-"d" democratic government, take better control of our economy and better care of each other. While Reagan stressed the importance of individualism in his inaugural, President Obama talked about cooperation and collective action. As he said on Tuesday, "preserving individual freedoms ultimately requires collective action." It's the difference between Reagan's "me" society and the traditional American "we" society the Founders envisioned. Reacting to the speech, Conservative pundit(see *** Charles Krauthammer called the President's words, "historically very important" and said that, "Obama basically is declaring the end of Reaganism in America." Obama has become the blank slate upon which both far right and far left project their most paranoid fantasies. On the Right, Ted Nugent: Nugent sneered at a visit by President Obama to the Vietnam Memorial. “He pretends to pay honor to men who die fighting communism and then hangs out with, hires and appoints communists: He is an evil, dangerous man who hates America and hates freedom, and we need to fix this as soon as possible.” On the left, Jill Stein: "Obama’s abandonment of his progressive base repeats 2008 post-election history, when the hope-and-change candidate suddenly devolved into a fearless defender of economic privilege. The supposedly populist candidate — who won re-election promising to tax the rich, protect Social Security, and make the economy fair — has morphed back into an invaluable ally of the economic elite. As Obama’s second term begins, he’s again undermining the progressive base, paving the way for more austerity, disparities, war and corporate power." This fascina . ...
President Barack Obama begins his second term with a progressive barn burner! Tonight on “The Ed Show” live from Washington, complete coverage of the 57th presidential inauguration or as Fox News called it, “the most depressing day of the year.” First up, Rep. Keith Ellison (D-MN) of the House Progressive Caucus responds to the president’s call to arms. Then, Obama spoke today about protecting the big three: Social Security, Medicare and Medicaid. John Nichols, Washington Correspondent ofThe Nation, talks about the president’s mandate and what today’s speech could mean for all Americans. President Obama made equality for women and immigration reform focal points in his inauguration speech. Ed will ask Terry O’Neill, President of The National Organization for Women, and Clarissa Martinez, Director of Civic Engagement and Immigration at the National Council of La Raza, what they expected in the president’s second term. The president made history in his second inaugural address, chroni ...
The Big Deal By Paul Krugman On the day President Obama signed the Affordable Care Act into law, an exuberant Vice President Biden famously pronounced the reform a “big something deal” — except that he didn’t use the word “something.” And he was right. In fact, I’d suggest using this phrase to describe the Obama administration as a whole. F.D.R. had his New Deal; well, Mr. Obama has his Big Deal. He hasn’t delivered everything his supporters wanted, and at times the survival of his achievements seemed very much in doubt. But if progressives look at where we are as the second term begins, they’ll find grounds for a lot of (qualified) satisfaction. Consider, in particular, three areas: Health Care, inequality and financial reform. Health reform is, as Mr. Biden suggested, the centerpiece of the Big Deal. Progressives have been trying to get some form of universal Health Insurance since the days of Harry Truman; they’ve finally succeeded. True, this wasn’t the health reform many were lo ...

I think I have to focus on a Possible move to Texas. That is a State that has it ball Together. I am serious. President Obama Has gone Crazy. We need a Balanced Budget Amendment. President Obama is about to be inaugurated for a second term. Congratulations to all his supporters, his family and to this great citizens of these United States. However, we must self-asess as to where this country really is since his ascendancy to the presidency in 2008. Pres. Obama has presided over the worst economic times since Franklin Delano Roosevelt in the 1930's. We know that for the most part, the banks, mortgage lenders and heartless financiers have been repsonsible for this decline. However, we must take cognisant of the fact that today, 48 million americans live below the poverty line and 42 million americans go hungry every day. There is still ambivalence over the Health Care system. Yes, there has been a slight decrease in unemployment, but most of the new jobs generated are low paying and without any-kind of furture financial future. in the meantime, we see the billionaires making more money than ever imagined and of course the remainder of the rich continuing to amass more wealth. The m ...
You know I really don't get it...how can Americans be jubilant about the forthcoming inauguration of second term President Obama? Already, even before he is inaugurated he is clearly demonstrating there is no "Hope" and "Change" coming from the White House. Instead, the CIA receives millions of dollars to continue Obama's "kill list," he is building his cabinet with corporatists and neocons and appoints drone mastermind and torture advocate John Brennan as director of the CIA. People the CIA needs to be disbanded, not pumped up. See "What I Learned About US Foreign Policy" and then tell me you will be dancing in the streets come inauguration day. They spent billions of dollars on a phony election and now millions on a fancy inauguration all the while wanting to cut Social Security and other social safety nets. Something is dreadfully wrong with Washington D.C. and something is dreadfully wrong with the rest of us for going along with the status quo.
I watched the Rachel Maddow show last night for the first time since the election and she was talking about the "debt ceiling" fight and she claimed over and over and over that "Republicans are threatening to default on the national debt"--which is a LIE. There's plenty of revenues pouring in to government to pay the interest on the national debt and as long as government has INCOME, it does not have to default on its debt obligations. In fact, President Obama says as much when he also lies and claims that he will "have to" suspend Social Security checks---as if there is no other spending he could cut--such as trips on Air Force One!
I would personally like to thank each of you who voted for President Obama and pushed Congress to adopt ObamaCare! Because of you I will now be $28.00 a month lighter in my monthly pay due to hours being cut to aviod the necessity of my employer providing Health Care. That comes out to $336.00 annually. Do you know what I could do with $336.00? Maybe make a car payment, or buy clothes for my kids, or maybe invest it to help with my retirement funding. I would also like to thank you for the 2% increase in my Social Security taxes as a result of the passage of the Fiscal Cliff Deal. Please add to that my gratitude for the additional taxes I am going to have to pay on stock dividends through the increase in capital gains on money that was already taxed as profit. For the record I am not Mitt Romney, I am not Warren Buffet, I am not Donald Trump, I am not Oprah, *** I don't even sniff making $250,000 a year. Weren't they the ones going to feel the squeeze. "No American who makes less than $250,000 a year ...

BREAKING: Debt Ceiling speech in a nutshell... "Obama says he will not negotiate with GOP over debt ceiling -- In the final news conference of his first term, President Obama warned Monday that he would not negotiate with Republicans over the federal debt ceiling, saying that Social Security checks would be delayed and the nation could enter a new recession if Republicans do not agree to allow for more U.S. borrowing. Obama said Republicans “will not collect a ransom in exchange for not crashing the American economy," ratcheting up the rhetoric over the looming deadline to raise the $16.4 trillion debt ceiling." -WaPo
True or False? Question 1: The majority of the National Debt was created by Republicans? Question 2: The Affordable Health Care Act (Obama Care) actually cuts the deficit? Question 3: Social Security has absolutely nothing to do with the deficit? Question 4: President Obama has cut spending & shrink the size of the government? Question 5: The true “Job Creators” are consumers, who drive the market, creating demand, thus creating jobs? Here is an update detailing how the current approved legislation may affect your pay for 2013. As you know Congress approved legislation on January 1st to extend the 2012 tax rates for most workers, except for those in the highest tax bracket. Updated federal Income Tax withholding tables for 2013, which reflect legislation signed January 2nd by President Obama, were released on January 3rd by the Internal Revenue Service in Notice 1036. Social Security Tax The 2% payroll tax cut for Social Security expired on December 31, 2012. This means that the existing Social Security tax rate will increase from 4.2% to 6.2%, thereby increasing the amount of Social Security tax deducted from your paycheck by 2%. As a result, all employees, regardless of their tax bracket, will see a reduction in their net pay (or ‘take-home’ pay) – effective with the first paycheck received in the New Year. Federal Income Withholding Tax for 2013 For most employees, the new federal withholding tax tables will not have any i ...

Social Security: It’s Worse Than You Think CONGRESS and President Obama have pushed through a relatively modest stopgap measure to avoid the “fiscal cliff,” but over the coming years, the United States will confront another huge cliff: Social Security. In the first presidential debate, Mr. Obama described Social Security as “structurally sound,” and Mitt Romney said that “neither the president nor I are proposing any changes” to the program. It was a rare issue on which both men agreed — and both were utterly wrong. For the first time in more than a quarter-century, Social Security ran a deficit in 2010: It spent $49 billion dollars more in benefits than it received in revenues, and drew from its trust funds to cover the shortfall. Those funds — a $2.7 trillion buffer built in anticipation of retiring Baby Boomers — will be exhausted by 2033, the government currently projects. Those facts are widely known. What’s not is that the Social Security Administration underestimates how long ...
A funny thing happened on the way top where we are. The President of the United States gave the Republican Party two huge cuts and the Republicans said no. Now we have Minority Leader McConnell saying there will be no deal on the debt or Sequestration with tax hikes at all. Last year during the debt ceiling debate President Obama and Speaker John Bahnoir were both ready to accept a $1 increase in taxes for every $4 in cuts. Bahnoir went back to his caucus and Eric Cantor, Bahnoir's number 2 man in the house and the Tea Party objected to the deal and Bahnoir came back with a no. Just recently the President placed Social Security and other items on the table that would have cut $1.6 Trillion in both revenue and cuts but lowered it to bring along some Republicans and settled on $1.2 off the debt and Republicans said no. The deal which was made with just $629 Billion raised will help trim the deficit. Republican leaders say they will not accept any tax hikes, but all crediable economist say we must elim ...
My sister and neice posted the following, this morning: I'm sure that not everyone has realized it, but your 2013 paychecks will be significantly lower due to more taxes. John got paid this week and we are losing hundreds each month. Then I read this from Obama (the great liar): "Obama said in his radio and Internet address Saturday that the new law — approved by Congress on New Year's Day and signed Thursday — raises taxes on the wealthiest Americans while preventing a middle-class tax hike that could have thrown the economy back into recession." ... We are nowhere near the threshold for "wealthy" so this is quite obviously a middle-class tax hike (payroll tax hikes and Social Security tax increases). USA Today says "About 77% of American households will face higher federal taxes in 2013 under the agreement negotiated between President Obama and Senate Republicans, estimates the Tax Policy Center, a nonpartisan Washington research group." And then I see Obama calling for MORE taxes and to raise the d ...

From Hank in NYC: Subject: To The Editor“Fury in G.O.P……….” – Front Page – January 3, 2013 The Republican Party is disintegrating before our eyes. The ultra right wing, or Tea Party element of the G.O.P. has made it virtually impossible for John Boehner, or any Speaker for that matter to control their caucus. The failure to even bring the Hurricane Sandy relief bill to the floor however, is inexcusable, and permanently etches Mr. Boehner’s record into history as the weakest, least compassionate Speaker in the last 50 years. The G.O.P. acts as though we did not have an election in November, and, like they don’t give a whit about the wishes of their constituents, especially those in dire need due to a horrific act of God. It is truly shameful that Mr. Boehner and his caucus want to cut Medicare, Medicaid and Social Security, and don’t have the decency or compassion for the hundreds of thousands of their fellow Americans left in Sandy’s wake. It is a good thing that President Obama did ...

The Wall Street Journal notes the “tax changes included in the bill hashed out between the White House and congressional Republicans Monday includes the first increases in top income-tax rates in nearly two decades… For millions of wage earners, the most immediate effect would be the lapse of a two-percentage-point payroll-tax cut that was part of a deal President Barack Obama struck with Republicans late in 2010. It lowered to 4.2% from 6.2% the employee portion of the Social Security tax, allowing workers to keep more take-home pay.” Politico: “But as big a deal as it was, it did little to address the nation’s long-term deficit problem — there’s nothing in it to pare back entitlement spending — or to defuse a potential crisis over raising the debt ceiling that could come as early as February.” Other key features of the deal summarized by Suzy Khimm: Tax rates will permanently rise to Clinton-era levels for families with income above $450,000 and individuals above $400,000. All income b ...

The latest word now is that the GOP is holding out now because of Social Security payments. Mitch Mcconnell is saying that he is at the dance and no one is my partner. Senator McConnell no one wants to dance with you because you failed as a dance partner long ago. The GOP wants the economy to go over the cliff in order to blame President Obama. Senator McConnell needs to be defeated in the next election because he does not represent Kentuckians. Hold Social Security hostage? No way, shame on you Senator!
Full statement from PCCC co-founder Adam Green on President Obama's press conference: "It would be good news if the Senate passed President Obama's fallback plan -- raise tax rates on those making over $250,000, extend unemployment benefits for millions of people, and give the Republicans none of their wildly-unpopular demands. Democrats have all of the leverage and the public on their side if they stand on principle. Given their strong hand, there is no circumstance under which Democrats should give tax breaks to those making over $250,000 or to ever cut Medicare, Medicaid, or Social Security benefits."
Tell President Obama, Speaker Pelosi, and your Congresspeople: No More Bad Bargains! Retirees, veterans, poor, and disabled people were saved last week from a dire bargain BY THE REPUBLICANS! President Obama offered a bad deal: change Cost of Living increases to a lower rate. He betrayed his promise NOT to cut Social Security and violated the trust of millions of voters. Speaker Pelosi said she would corral Democratic representatives to vote for it. The Republicans balked but we could still see a bad deal between now and New Years. Contact your elected officials NOW to tell them we’d rather step off the fiscal “curb” than stand for lower benefits. This deal would hurt the most vulnerable and doesn’t fix the so-called problem. Congressman Jerry Nadler is one of a growing segment of House Democrats that have broken with President Obama and Minority Leader Pelosi to protect Social Security! We have one thing to say to him: THANK YOU.
Three weeks ago, President Obama's Press Secretary said, "Social Security is off the table in deficit talks". However, in a deal announced by the administration late Monday, Democrats are ready to cut Social Security and Medicare, while allowing Middle Class tax cuts to expire. "With this latest capitulation on Social Security, I guess Democrats are intent on reliving the glory days of 2010." Markos Moulitsas
The Wall Street Journal November 26, 2012, 6:41 p.m. ET Why $16 Trillion Only Hints at the True U.S. Debt Hiding the government's liabilities from the public makes it seem that we can tax our way out of mounting deficits. We can't. By CHRIS COX AND BILL ARCHER A decade and a half ago, both of us served on President Clinton's Bipartisan Commission on Entitlement and Tax Reform, the forerunner to President Obama's recent National Commission on Fiscal Responsibility and Reform. In 1994 we predicted that, unless something was done to control runaway entitlement spending, Medicare and Social Security would eventually go bankrupt or confront severe benefit cuts. Eighteen years later, nothing has been done. Why? The usual reason is that entitlement reform is the third rail of American politics. That explanation presupposes voter demand for entitlements at any cost, even if it means bankrupting the nation. A better explanation is that the full extent of the problem has remained hidden from policy makers and the p ...
Today I heard three republicans say they would forget about their Grover Norquist pledge against America if we would agree to deep cuts in our Social Security and Medicare. We say *** No" to them and we want to see them charged with high crimes against America! I say we need to put every republican congress person's freedom on the table, and also their wages, benefits and retirement as well!!
There is, in fact, a growing conspiracy to destroy Medicare and Social Security. It's Pete Peterson, the anti-"entitlement" billionaire who made his money with the infamous Blackstone Group and Lehman Brothers, and a group of politicians who want to appear "serious" by supporting "the Grand Bargain" wherein minor tax increases will be allowed in return for cutting SS and Medicare benefits. Unfortunately, both ex-President Clinton and current President Obama seem to support this very bad idea. Tell your congresspeople, no cuts to Medicare and Social Security! They will listen to you.
Nov 22 – [A] Happy Thanksgiving, everyone. What I am thankful for this day is that my wife, Nanette, has received her healthcare cards and that I had a good visit with the Social Security people yesterday; everything is now in order and I should receive a letter to that effect from the local office on Monday. Since that would be received on November 26, the Medicare will begin on December 1. As a frugal person, I could not see paying an entire month for four to five days of coverage. I am also thankful for the cease fire arranged by Secretary of State Hilary Clinton and give thanks to President Obama for sending her to the Mideast for that purpose. Hopefully, Israel will begin treating the Palestinians more humanly so that true peace in the area can be achieved. Likewise, Hamas will begin to abandon their terroristic actions against Israel and learn to live in peace with their neighbors. The Israelis must end their encroachment into the West Bank and western Jerusalem and its displacement of Arab ...
targeting the “rich” simply isn’t going to cure our country’s problems. President Obama could confiscate 100% of their estimated $6.4 trillion in wealth and it would hardly make a dent in the $222 trillion Washington owes us, its foreign creditors, Social Security, Medicare and more. Quite to the contrary, it will aggravate our federal deficit and our national debt by systematically robbing our country of economic growth that’s largely propelled by entrepreneurs and risk-takers, by job-creators. Again, just take a look at the history books. During the French Revolution, class warfare leader Maximilien Robespierre enforced confiscatory taxes on the rich with the guillotine. Those that could get out of the country, left as fast as they could. In 1290, King Edward I issued an edict expelling all money-lenders (predominately the wealthy Jews) from England. And as we all know, Hitler went after them too. During the Bolshevik Revolution, Vladimir Lenin declared class war against capitalists, confiscat ...
Thanks to the expiration of the temporary payroll tax cut at the end of this year, President Obama has a historic opportunity to shore up Social Security. The Motley Fool's Chuck Saletta explains how this tax hike could be the best thing for the country.
FEDERAL Death Panel STALLS IN CONGRESS: To solve the problem of the 'Fiscal Cliff,' a bill to create a Federal Death Panel charged with eliminating Social Security recipients once they have reached their lifetime payout limit has been introduced. It stalled in Congress today. The sticking point is a Republican bid to include an exemption for wealthy Americans who decline to receive their benefits. Democrats say the math won't work unless everyone goes. President Obama is expected to offer his usual preemptive compromise.
Social Security is one of the most successful programs that our country has ever adopted. It's not in trouble. Other parts of our government have even borrowed $ from the Soc Sec Trust Fund over the decades. Even if we don't make any changes, Soc Sec will be able to keep it's commitments well into the 2030s. And the little bit of tweaking that will be necessary to keep Soc Sec viable beyond that is very doable. President Obama and other prominent Democrats need to voice this forcefully, and do it often to educate low-information Americans who have bought the GOP's lies that Soc Sec is in trouble.

President Obama, here's your list: Close Guantanamo Bay. Try or release prisoners. Re-regulate banks, Wall Street, and jail all those involved in the loans that took down the economy. Stop sending jobs overseas. Period. Continue to deport illegal persons from every outside nation. Stop drone attacks and bring ALL AMERICANS home from overseas. Hold Constitution Convention and remove Electoral College. Install a single term for each elected official and to just one office per individual. Expand Medicare for all. Return to Social Security the funding that has been removed from it and place it in a locked box. Stop ALL tax breaks and cuts. Rebuild America's infrastructure before it totally crashes. Thanks.
Over the past few weeks I’ve heard a lot of people wondering what President Obama has accomplished in the past four years. After doing some intense research (read 10 minutes on the internet – not just because I’m lazy, but it really didn’t take that long to find this stuff), here’s an abbreviated list: 1. Passed the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act which averted an economic depression, reversed the rapidly rising unemployment rate, and created nearly 3.7 million private sector jobs (effectively digging us out of the hole created by his predecessor whose economic policies mirror the trickle down, “let’s give rich people more money and trust they’ll do the right thing” policies of Governor Romney. Interesting side note: Paul Ryan’s favorite author Ayn Rand signed up for Social Security and Medicare later in life. Make of that what you will). 2. Signed the Affordable Care Act, an attempt to insure 32 million Americans who had no access to primary care medicine, and several other ...
Do you realize that it took more than 10 years to get totally out of the Great Depression (1930-1940)? This latest recession is regarded as the worst since the 30's. We are all spoiled by movies and TV shows when problems are solved in one or two hours. That is unrealistic, and especially in this case. In the last 4 years most Republicans did their best to obstruct progress. In fact, the Senate Minority Leader McConnell stated that the Number One objective was to deny President Obama a second term. The Republicans proceeded to use the filibuster more often than ever before in our nation's history. No compromises. No progress. Where in the *** did that leave many of the rest of us citizens? If you look at most of the other issues in this election (taxes, wome... n's rights, immigration, voter suppression, Social Security, Medicare, Medicaid, etc.), the Republicans and their party platform are putting each and everyone at great risk to satisfy the wealthy and large corporations. They have also tried to obs ...
During this Election, please "think" instead of believing the crap on TV. 1. NO President can raise taxes or lower taxes. Only Congress can change tax rates. 2. NO President can reverse Rowe Vs Wade. That's the Supreme Courts issue. 3. NO President can change or alter Medicaid, Medicare, or Social Security. That's Congress again. 4. President Obama is a US Citizen; get over it. 5. Bain Capital never closed a "profitable and thriving" business. Think with your own brain, not the media's attempt to think for you. Liberal, Conservative, or somewhere in between; VOTE "YOUR" CONSCIOUS
To all people who voted for President Obama last time, I know he has been a bit of a disappointment. I have been disappointed too. Given that we are all a little down because he did not transform Washington. He was handed an economy in meltdown and kept it from going down the drain. The economy is growing not falling off a cliff. It could grow faster if he had been given any help from Congress on additional jobs programs. You have seen what he had to deal with. The Republican House of Representatives have been against anything that he proposed. They have even been against building highways, paying for out Disabled Veterans and keeping the US Treasury from defaulting on our debt. From Day One, they decided to conspire to defeat President Obama. We should not reward their EXSTORTION. President Obama is all that stands against the Republican Party’s dismantling of Social Security, Medicare, Worker’s Rights, Universal Healthcare, Minimum Wage, as well as the rights of women to have: Equal Pay, Re ...
I did it again! Fully 99 out of 100 messages in my email box have been and continue to be requests for dollars to support President Obama's reelection bid, Tammy Baldwin, Sherrod Brown, Elizabeth Warren and Ami Bera. I've given to all of them and despite my urge to sit on my hands and suppress additional contributions, I couldn't. I gave again with hopes of defeating the Big Money interests such as *** Armey's Tea Party and Carl Rove's Crossroads GPS. If each of us gives a little and dedicates our votes, our 99% just might be able to neutralize their 1% and prevent the grand privatization moves that the 1% deems appropriate to grow our economy, build a platform for jobs creation while stripping Medicare, Medicaid, Social Security and the Patient Protection and Affordable Care Act from America. We must not let this happen. GIVE until it hurts to assure a future that builds on the good work of President Obama's first term.
Harry's Column for SCOOP, USA This Is It! Hopefully, when you read this column, the presidential election will be only four days away. It's up to us to get out the vote. This election is important for ALL of us, the 99%, or as Romney said, "the 47% who don't pay Income Tax" (because we don't make enough, we're on Social Security, we're in the Armed Services, or we're disabled. Romney thinks we're bums and he's said he wants to end Medicare and cut Social Security. With him as President, more teachers, firefighters, and civil service workers will be let go. He will lower taxes for the very rich and ours will rise. Medicaid would be cut drastically as would Food Stamps and Unemployment. In my life, I have never seen a President treated with such disrespect or heard public figures, other than people like the old Dixiecrats, make incredibly racist appeals. From calling President Obama "The Food Stamp President" (Romney), to his jumpin' jive by Palin. That *** Trump is now asking for the President's ...
The following is by economist Dean Baker published in the Guardian: The Economics of Social Security in the Presidential Race It is remarkable that Social Security hasn’t been a more prominent issue in the presidential race. After all, Governor Romney has proposed a plan that would imply cuts of more than 40 percent for middle-class workers just entering the labor force. Since Social Security is hugely popular across the political spectrum, it would seem that President Obama could gain an enormous advantage by clearly proclaiming his support for the program. But President Obama has consistently refused to rise to the defense of Social Security. In fact, in the first debate he explicitly took the issue off the table telling the American People that there is not much difference between his stand on Social Security and Romney’s. On its face, this is difficult understand. In addition to being good politics, there are also solid policy grounds for defending Social Security. The Social Security system is pe ...
1. President Barack Obama is not a “food stamp president.” According to recent figures, more food stamp recipients were actually added under President George W. Bush than under President Obama. Under President Bush the number of recipients rose by nearly 14.7 million. 2. Blacks are not the primary recipients of assistance through federal benefit programs. 35.7 percent of Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program, or SNAP, recipients and 43 percent of those on Medicaid—two of the largest public benefit programs—are white. 3. The main reasons why people living in poverty are not employed are illness and inability to find work. Approximately 56 percent of those who did not work in 2010 did not work due to illness, disability, retirement, or an inability to find work. 4. Social Security benefits have saved many senior citizens from poverty. If Social Security were excluded from income, 14 million seniors over the age of 65 would fall into poverty. 5. Many Americans receiving public benefits paid for t ...
First Person: Why This 72-Year-Old Floridian is Voting for Obama By Gloria Aguayo | Yahoo! Contributor Network – 13 hrs ago Florida's seniors, who represent about 22 percent of the state's voting-age population, may play a large role in how the state swings on Nov. 6. As Election Day nears, Yahoo News asked Floridians who are or nearing retirement, Medicare and Social Security age to share their thoughts on the election. Here's one perspective. FIRST PERSON | The 2012 presidential race is nearing a close, and the incumbent has a narrow lead. There are arguments to be heard both for and against giving President Obama a second term. Let me tell you a little about myself, and why Obama is my choice. I am a 72-year-old retiree living in Tampa. I raised my children as a single mom, their father and I having divorced in the mid 1970s. I experienced first-hand the trials and stress of being a female head of household. I feel that Obama can relate to my life story. Education was a vital factor in my gaining the ...
Mitt Romney has owned factories in China, I've seen and heard Mitt talk his China Factory, of 12 girls to a room, with a huge metal fence around the building! Mitt's "Get tough with China" is a myth, since he took $12 million of our tax dollars in Auto Bailout money and shipped 28 American Delco/Delphi Factories to China in 2009, consequently, no 2009 tax records!!! Mitt Romney has worked for MONEY, not AMERICANS!!! Do you see President Obama involved with voting? I see President Obama working for Americans, not Greed. Our President will keep Medicare there for ALL of Americans, not just Seniors today. He has NO plans to privatize Social Security, as Mitt and the GOP over the last 30 years (Remember GW Bush's plans. What would have happened to you S.S. now?), "earning" the Banksters involved $2.5 Trillion dollars of our Social Security dollars. Do you want to pay a CEO of Social Security? President Obama also has made Pell Grants easier to get, with no Banksters involved in taking our kid's i ...
Love this. ObamaCare's negative effect on MedicareR-J READERS 10/24/2012 12:00 AM To the editor: Any seniors who have received the 2013 Medicare booklet should take a long look at the list of Medicare Advantage programs that are available to us next year. Any of you who think President Obama and ObamaCare are good choices for seniors should review the booklet carefully. Medicare Advantage has been used by millions of seniors to cover services and costs (including many prescriptions) not covered by standard Medicare, and in many cases with no monthly premium over the amount already taken from your Social Security payments for Medicare Part B. In years past, we've had many choices of PPFS, PPO and HMO plans, with a wide range of premium and co-pay options. This year, there are only two PPO plans for Clark County, and both have a monthly premium. The only plans available without a premium are HMOs. When you find that your current Medicare Advantage provider will no longer offer the plan next year, and you fi ...
Hey There all you OLD people go do this! Hey – in just a few weeks, both political parties will be holding conventions and laying out their plans for the future. A clear plan for the future of Medicare and Social Security should be a part of that conversation – we shouldn't have to go to the polls without knowing where they stand on these critical issues! I just added my name to AARP's petition telling President Obama and Governor Romney to make their plans for Medicare and Social Security part of a public conversation. They'll be delivering our signatures to the presidential candidates – will you sign on too, and help make a strong statement that we are counting on the candidates to make their plans for these programs clear before the election? Here's the link: – and pass it on! The more signatures we can gather, the bigger the impact we can have. Elizabeth
Van Jones says President Obama should tell voters the facts about Social Security and Medicare.
Republican US Senate candidate Linda McMahon is now running a TV advertisement saying that voting for her is a great way to support President Obama. Not to be outdone, the Murphy forces are running an ad. featuring an elderly woman saying "I earned Social Security." Someone should write a book about this campaign.

So, all you die-hard republicans. Feel free to access MSNBC and view the EDShow which was broadcast on Friday, October 19th, from Freeport, IL... You think this can't happen to you or yours? This is not a movie.this is life!! If you don't watch the View, I dare you to watch a clip from last week when Ann Romney had the gaul to equate her husband and five sons' two year Mormon Missionary service to serving our country in the Armed Services. Yup, two years of trying to convert people to the LDS Religion is "just like being in the Army and fighting for our country." Oh, yes, my private supplemental medical insurance increased my premium by 60% this year, because they could, while my Social Security cost of living increase was a whopping 1%. Yup, let's privatize Medicare. Make those insurance companies richer with more money going into administration than in paying for healthcare. Why not give President Obama a level playing field to finish what he has tried to move our country out of the recession. O ...
In the Grand Scheme of the universe one vote wont change the world’s mind. Hind sight is 20/20. To tell the truth I voted Republican in the past election. I did not think the world was ready for change. The world proved me wrong, I’m not afraid to be wrong, in fact it happens all the time, it’s just part of being human. But I do have the right as an American to change my mind. Barak Obama is the American President and I’ve changed my thinking since he’s become President. I have read and understand the Patient Protection and Affordable Care Act (which is known as Obamacare). I understand I will have to get and pay for Health Care. I’m ok with that in the grand scheme it is a “PLAN” a good plan. Social Security is not going to be affected in a negative way in fact they (Social Security recipients) will be ok plus TRICARE is military Health Care, also will be ok in the grand scheme. My point is, (It’s a PLAN). President Obama has brought home thousands of military service people, ...

Democrats and Republicans aren't the same anymore. Twice in their debate, President Obama and Mitt Romney brought up the names of Tip O'Neill, and Ronald Reagan, asserting that the relationship between Reagan and The speaker of the House for most of Reagan's presidency, should serve as a model for how political leaders can differ deeply on issues, and yet work together for the good of the country. They each believed deeply in what they fought for - and that each had deep concern about where the other's political views could take this country On occasion, these dueling philosophies brought both men to the mat - to the point where neither would back down. O'Neill stood firm against deep cuts and other proposed changes to Social Security, believing in his core that the elderly poor would bear too great a burden. (sound familiar?) In the fall of 1986, they waged war again over the renewal of the Clean Water Act. Just months before O'Neill retired, after 34 years in the House, leaders in Congress hammered out ...
The Romney/Ryan ticket walked into a buzz saw Thursday night during the Vice Presidential debate. That buzz saw was named Joe Biden. In stark contrast from President Obama's debate performance last week - Joe Biden was the aggressor all night - not letting one convenient lie from Paul Ryan go unchallenged. Biden exposed Romney and Ryan's plans to voucherize Medicare. He exposed their plans to stick the Middle Class with a tax hike while giving the super rich a massive tax cut. He exposed the hypocrisy of Paul Ryan criticizing the stimulus act, while at the same time Ryan was writing letters to Biden asking for stimulus funding to create jobs in his Congressional District. He exposed Ryan's previous attempts to privatize Social Security. And he exposed Ryan as belonging to a Party that has been committed to obstruction over the last four years preventing a genuine economic recovery.
Wall St.'s Next Profit Scheme -- Buying Up Every Piece of Your Home Town Across America, schools, roads, and water systems are for sale to the highest Wall Street bidder. September 27, 2012 | The pace of Wall Street’s war against the 99% is quickening in preparation for the kill. Having demonized public employees for being scheduled to receive pensions on their lifetime employment service, bondholders are insisting on getting the money instead. It is the same austerity philosophy that has been forced on Greece and Spain – and the same that is prompting President Obama and Mitt Romney to urge scaling back Social Security and Medicare. Unlike the U.S. Federal Government, most states and cities have constitutions that prevent them from running budget deficits. This means that when they cut property taxes, they either must borrow from the wealthy, or cut back employment and public services. For many years they borrowed, paying tax-exempt interest to wealthy bondholders. But carrying charges on these have ...
The unintended consequences of illegal immigrants being granted amnesty that most people don't think about or don't care about: By Ronald W. Mortensen, October 9, 2012 Advocates for illegal aliens have discovered the solution to our economic woes — the DREAM Act. If everyone would just stop complaining and praise President Obama for his efforts to stimulate the economy by legalizing illegal aliens, we would take another great leap forward toward utopia. According to a study by Juan Carlos Guzman and Raul C. Jara of the Center for American Progress, if Congress would just follow the president's example and pass the DREAM Act, an estimated 2.1 million illegal aliens who are now busy violating U.S. laws by using fraudulent Social Security Numbers (felony), perjuring themselves on I-9 forms (felony), and stealing the identities of innocent American children (felony) would inject a quick $329 billion into the economy while creating an additional 1.4 million jobs. To their credit, Guzman and Jara acknowledge ...
Before the debate, Tell President Obama & Governor Romney that we earned our Medicare and Social Security, and we deserve some answers:
Margie Prezioso OK guys, we have 4 weeks to the election and President Obama's numbers are still dropping in the polls. We need to step up our game. If you are a senior, you need to visit your local Senior Center and speak to other seniors about how Romney's policies will descimate Medicare and Social Security. If you have a grandma/grandpa it would be a good time to visit or call your grandparents and tell them the same thing. If you are a parent you need to attend a local PTA meeting or speak to parents at after-school activities and discuss how funding for public education will be voucherized and Pell Grants for college eliminated. If you are a college student, you need to make sure your fellow students are aware that under Romney you may have to drop out before getting your degree. All of us have an issue that we can talk to our friends, family, neighbors and community about. We can use cans or plastic cups to put in our chain link fences telling folks that you support our president and they should VO ...
Social Security: Sen. Bernie Sanders "will once again be leading the fight to protect Social Security from Obama, Democrats and Republicans, all of whom have bought into austerity. It begins now, not after President Obama is likely reelected," Taylor Marsh wrote at The Moderate Voice. Sanders "will be leading the fight against cutting the program's cost-of-living increases," she added. Irene Recovery: More than 13 months after Tropical Storm Irene swept through Vermont, some towns still are struggling with the Federal Government's disaster-aid program. Newfane officials received contradictory deadlines from FEMA as they seek approval of alternative uses for up to $455,220 in federal bridge replacement money. Rep. Peter Welch told the Brattleboro Reformer that he and Sens. Patrick Leahy and Sanders, have been "doing all we can to intervene" in such situations. UVM: Sen. Sanders spoke at Friday's installation of Thomas Sullivan as president of the University of Vermont. Mentioning student debt and the role ...
Nobody seems to be able to explain the performance of President Obama at the first debate, except to say that maybe he was distracted by actually having to do his job as President and that it is not uncommon for incumbents to not have a good first debate. I guess, then, we have to go back to the facts (sorry Mr. Romney). The facts are that the Republicans under policies like Mr. Romney's tanked the economy. The Republicans have run up the national debt with an irresponsible tax break and two major wars in Iraq and Afghanistan which President Obama has ended or begun to wind down. The Republicans could not find the enemy for 9/11, and President Obama did, and got him. The Republican, today anyway, say they are going to dismantle the Medicare program and make the Social Security program a welfare program instead of a get what you pay for program (please just give me my money back at rates of the Dow Jones returns if you do that, and I will be just fine, thank you). It is clear that Mr. Romney is a lyin ...
From: Lloyd Alan Fradkin - After the first Presidential Debate I heard MSNBC’s Ed Shultz go ballistic, because President Obama didn’t take advantage of the “47percent” comment from Mitt and seemed to say he agreed with Mitt on Social Security. On Fox I heard Sean Hannity praise Mitt’s performance as brilliant. However in the light of day this morning they both got it wrong letting their emotions, like many, dictate what they saw which was not the same Debate as my wife and I. Ronald Reagan made the famous comment to Jimmy Carter: “There you go again” and last night that comment best described Willard Mitt Romney. He has gone RETRO and reinvented himself once more as the MODERATE Governor of Massachusetts a fact that should send concern to the GOP base as much as Independents and the Administration. Here are five examples: 1. Romney completely dumped Paul Ryan’s “Path to Prosperity” last night even changing his position from the DAY BEFORE on Tax Cuts. Multiple times the NEW ROMNEY said ...
* Tonight, President Barack Obama made a claim about Social Security. OBAMA: Social Security is structurally sound, it's gonna have to be tweaked the way it was by Ronald Reagan and Speaker, Democratic Speaker Tip O'Neill. But it is, the basic structure is sound. President Obama said that, unlike Medicare, Social Security does not need to be fundamentally fixed to remain solvent. But according to the Congressional Budget Office, Social Security will run into financial trouble, too -- about 20 years from now. By the year 2030, the amount Social Security pays out will exceed the tax revenue coming in -- so in about 20 years the program will NOT be able to pay for itself through the payroll taxes Americans currently pay. *Mitt Romney claimed President Obama's Health Care law would take $716 billion out of Medicare. ROMNEY: What I support is no change for current retirees and near-retirees to Medicare. And the president supports taking $716 billion out of that program. In fact, that $716 billion comes from tr ...
So Mitt Romney now supports the key points of the Affordable Care Act, NOT lowering taxes on the wealthy, regulating Wall Street, keeping Social Security a socialized system. He is sounding more and more like President Obama everyday. Again he keeps changing his positions.
If your a Baby Boomer like I am, and receiving your Social Security that you worked for 30 to 40 years paying into, along with paying Federal, State, Local, Medicare Taxes, and Health Insurance if you could afford it, about 30% of your paycheck, and you pay sales tax on your groceries, everything you buy, gas tax, telephone tax, etc., but you don't pay 'Payroll Taxes' then Mitt Romney calls you a U.S. citizen who believes your a victim, and will not take responsibility for your own lives, believes your entitled to Medicare, along with the 47% of American Citizens he refers to in the recently-released video recorded at a fundraiser at $5,000.00 a seat in Boca Raton Florida. Romney says that you depend on the Government for your Food, Housing, You Name It, and that you will vote for President Obama in November no matter what. Will all you Mooching, Victimized Baby Boomers vote for President Obama in November ?

On the eve of the first debate, these thoughts came to me, Every time I hear someone spout about how fair and balanced they are about the election, they turn out to be a Republican. I am not balanced, because there is a right and wrong. And by the way, if there is anyone in the country who doesn't know where each of the candidates stands right now, before the debates, then they have been deaf and mute for the last 18 months. I understand both parties positions and I support President Obama. Call me a liberal. Far from a dirty word, it is the most noble of ideals. I am honored to be associated with those causes. I favor Medicare, and universal health coverage for all Americans. I favor the Civil Rights Act, the Voting Rights Act, Social Security and the 14th Amendment to the US Constitution. I favor free school meals for disadvantaged school children. I favor food stamps for the poor, so that in the greatest and wealthiest country in the world, everyone should have an opportunity to receive basic nutrition ...
Ran across some information for all the VETERANS. Especially those that are leaning toward "DRAFT DODGER" mitt the twit. Get the facts. According to a recent poll, veterans are supporting Mitt Romney by 58% to 34% for President Obama. If you are a veteran, or are serving on active duty, and you're thinking about voting for Mitt Romney, there are some things you need to know. At the outset, I will state that Mitt. Romney, despite his recent campaign stops at the VFW national convention, his speech from the deck of the USS Wisconsin in Norfolk when he introduced Paul Ryan as his VP pick, and, yesterday, at an American Legion post in Virginia, is not our friend. I say, "Our", because I am a veteran and have been involved in veterans' advocacy since 1977 as a first-year law student in New Hampshire when we started a clinic to assist veterans with VA and Social Security disability claims. In 1978, I became one of the first people to be accredited by the VA as a service officer for Vietnam Veterans of America a ...
Rec'd a letter today from the Painter's International Union - my husbands union. They provided facts concerning the Romney/Ryan Plan. Their plan will be debilitation for all seniors. It reveals that under their plan, someone who is currently 65 on Medicare will pay an additional $11,000 during their retirement. A 54 year old today would pay an additional $124,600 and a 29 year old would pay an additional $331,200. Their Social Security would allow workers to divert 1/3 of their SS taxes into a private investment account rather than into the program. How would your social security benefit look now if you lost a third of it to the Wall Street crash 4 years ago? When you decided to retire you had 4 things to count on-your pension, your savings, Medicare and Social Security... If Romney/Ryan team succeeds, future retirees and beneficiaries of unions may not be as fortunate. We need to save Medicare and Social Security from Wall Street - Vote for re-electing President Obama and Vice President Biden. I WIL ...
1) President Obama stated that concern over Iran obtaining a nuclear weapon is just “noise.” Interestingly, this is the same word that Iranian President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad used on this topic. 2) Ambassador Susan Rice and other members of the administration falsely blamed a video and spontaneous protests for the terrorist attack against our Libyan embassy. 3) President Obama described the September 11th terrorist attack in Libya that led to the death of four Americans, including a U.S. Ambassador, as a “bump in the road.” 4) Senior Obama Campaign Strategist David Axelrod told Mark Halperin “this is not the time” for the President to put forward a plan to reform Social Security. 5) President Obama stated that his biggest lesson from his first term was that “you can’t change Washington from the inside.” Considering that President Obama’s entire 2008 election was based on the idea of bringing change to Washington, this is essentially an admission that he has failed. Some have tried to po ...
A letter to my Repub family and friends from this disabled vet. I posted this on FB. To all my family and friends who think I am too political. I would like you to know something. This election is personal for me. For 30 years I have worked to provide for myself and my family, (mostly working 50 hour weeks) including 7 years in the United States Air Force. I paid my taxes and paid into Social Security and Medicare. During my time in the Air Force I was deployed to the Middle East in support of Desert Shield/Desert Storm. I was one of thousands who returned a different person, both physically and mentally. Over the years my health has slowly deteriorated. I am now on 10 different medications and must use a cane to walk among other problems. I am no longer able to hold a full time job. Evey month I receive VA disability. I also receive my Health Care and medications through the VA. Mitt Romney has vowed to cut VA funding and other social services that many veterans rely on. President Obama has funded the VA ...
Wonder why gas prices are so high. Look at the investiments that President Obama has. The two main funds he is in is the Wellesley fund, and the Wellington funds. Both of these are heavily into petorleum companies. No wonder he is not worried about how high gas goes. But he is for the little guy. The last time I looked he had gutted Medicare by taking 750 Billion dollars from it to fund his Obama care. The senator from Mass, Mr Barney Franks was running the sub prime loans area of the government Called Freddie Mac and Sally Mae. He is a Democrat. They were forcing banks to make loans to people who could not afford them. No wonder so many failed. Oh by the way Obama is also invested in Wells Fargo Bank. They also owned many of the bad loans. The ones that are being purchased by the government. Many of the Americans should open their eyes and see the truth before it is too late. The people that have paid into Social Security for about 50 years or more are now afraid that the investment that they ...
I support President Obama for: 1. Reducing the potential impact of the severe recession and financial crisis that was ongoing when he took office by reducing the Social Security payroll tax by hundreds of billions of dollars which provided American workers with more money to pump into the economy, and investing even more hundreds of billions of dollars in state and local projects that otherwise would have been waiting for funding, which kept over a million Americans employed and provided them with income to further increase economic activity. Instead of seeing larger job losses every month as we did in the year before he took office, the loss of jobs decreased every month after he took office, and now we have had job increases for 30 months in a row, and a total of 2.5 million+ new jobs. The President proposed an additional Jobs Act which would have boosted the economy further and created millions of more jobs, but it was blocked by the Republicans. 2. Preventing the financial crisis from becoming many ti ...
Gary Johnson vs Mitt Romney: The Economy Should we expand or dismantle our Social Security program? Gary Johnson: Privatize the current system by allowing younger workers to contribute a portion of their payroll tax obligation to a private investment account Mitt Romney: Reform and raise the retirement age to account for people living longer Do you agree with President Obama's 2009 Stimulus Plan? Gary Johnson: No, I'm against any type of federal stimulus Mitt Romney: No Do you believe the 2001 and 2003 George W Bush Tax Cuts should be extended? Gary Johnson: Abolish the IRS and pass the Fair Tax legislation Mitt Romney: Yes Should the government raise the federal Minimum Wage? Gary Johnson: No, eliminate all federal wage standards Mitt Romney: Leave it up to the states to decide Should Congress raise the debt ceiling? Gary Johnson: No, cut spending Mitt Romney: no Should the U.S. have bailed out the major banks during the financial crisis of 2008? Their answers: No Should able-bodied, mentally capable adu ...
From the Opinion page of the WSJ, 9/17 - What Mitt Romney Might Have Said: Mitt Romney has been taking a beating for his remarks, taped at a May fundraiser, that 47% of Americans would automatically vote for President Obama because they are "dependent" on government. We could pile on, but instead we can report that we've been leaked pages of draft remarks that Mr. Romney might have delivered on the same subject but curiously didn't. Maybe he'll deliver them some time before Election Day: Related Video Columnist Kim Strassel on how Mitt Romney can turn his leaked fundraising video to his advantage. Photo: Associated Press "One tragedy of the Obama Presidency is how many more Americans have become dependent on the government. I know it's not their fault. Most want to be self-sufficient, to provide for their families, but they can't because there aren't enough jobs. "That's why 46 million Americans are on food stamps now, compared to 30 million in 2008. That's why 10.6 million were on Social Security disabil ...
I could be mistaken, but from what I have just read in the Dallas Morning News, New York Times, and the Washington Post, if you are Republican and are in the Armed Services, retired and your Social Security or other annuity is non=taxable, if your income is less than $30,000 (?), you probably should vote for President Obama for Mr. Romney is not concerned about you. I think that is what he said in the video, that he is not concerned about the 47% who paid no federal Income Tax. Can you believe what he said? Or is he going to flip flop on this?
I really shouldn't give this gazoombooba any more media attention tyan she already gets, but this list of Orly Taitz's beliefs is better - but less believable -than Mondoshark vs Pythonaurus, starring Debbie Gibson: Taitz alleges that President Obama is not a natural-born citizen of the United States and is therefore ineligible to serve as President. She claims he was born in Kenya and that he falsified his Selective Service papers and his application to the Illinois bar.[22] "I believe [Obama] is the most dangerous thing one can imagine, in that he represents radical communism and radical Islam: He was born and raised in radical Islam, all of his associations are with radical Islam, and he was groomed in the environment of the dirty Chicago mafia. Can there be anything scarier than that?"[23] Taitz has made other Obama-related claims, including: A number of homosexuals from Obama's former church have died mysteriously. Obama has dozens of Social Security Numbers, and his passport is inaccurate. Taitz cl ...
Mitt Romney has been rousing military-minded voters with warnings of giant defense cuts in January, but he’s only telling half the story. An alarming White House report issued Friday shows that the full impact of next year’s ham-handed budget cuts would affect virtually every government function, not just the Pentagon. From the Secret Service to food inspection to Air Traffic control, a broad range of programs would be cut by at least 7.6 percent, whether they are essential or frivolous. A few categories are exempt, including Medicare and Medicaid beneficiaries, Social Security, veterans affairs and military personnel. Everything else would be run through a Procrustean band saw, a mindless way to govern. These cuts, known as the sequester, were the result of the debt-limit crisis created by House Republicans last year, when they threatened to throw the government into default if the deficit were not reduced. President Obama and the Democrats tried to respond with a balanced package of spending reducti ...
Earlier this year; YES DOROTHY THERE IS AN OBAMA It was Dorothy's dog Toto, a standard bred cairn terrier, in the 1939 movie classic "The Wizard of Oz," tugging at the black curtain, who revealed the Great and Powerful Oz to be nothing more than a humbug, "Why, you're not a wizard at all, you're just a man! And you're a very bad man for pretending to be a wizard," exclaims Dorothy. Professor Marvel, chagrined after having been defrocked, and exhausted, unable to sustain the charade, replies apologetically, " Oh no my dear, I'm a very good man, just a very bad wizard." President Obama, also pretending to be a wizard, was finally defrocked at his own hand by a pathetic performance in what should have been an unremarkable low profile legislative routine but which ballooned into the debt ceiling debacle. Discredited by his serial lying about default and terrifying seniors about Social Security payment suspensions, while telling bankers behind the scenes that such calamities would not happen, Obama can't lay c ...
Chicago teachers are striking. Here are the facts: -The average Chicago teacher makes $74,839 a year. -Public school teachers get off: 2 1/2 months for the summer, two weeks for Christmas, an additional week for spring break, and every major holiday, plus sick days and personal days. - Chicago teachers do not pay Social Security taxes or receive benefits, and instead receive a public employee pension averaging $41,584 a year for a teacher with 28 years of service. -Chicago teachers’ benefit package includes a choice of three health plans, with maximum out-of-pocket amounts, including deductible, ranging from $4,000 to $4,800 (or 5.3 to 6.4 percent of the average teacher’s salary). -Chicago performs quite poorly on national assessments of educational quality according to Reuters. -This Fiscal Year, Chicago Public Schools are facing a $665 million deficit. -They are striking over the city refusing to give them a 4% raise. -President Obama has not chosen a side in this dispute. Jay Carney for the preside ...
Lessons for Obama: How FDR Fended Off The 1%’s Attacks Against His New Deal Reforms. Many of the same ultra-right families of the richest 1% in the U.S. currently attacking New Deal reforms protecting working families are the same families who attacked President Franklin Delano Roosevelt in the 1930s for introducing these reforms. Then and now, the targets include old age pensions (Social Security), more progressive taxation on the rich, and the right of employees to bargain collectively with their employers for improvement in wages and work conditions. President Roosevelt, however, responded differently to their attacks than President Obama. Here I discuss how, first by looking at a powerful family which, more than any other, led the attacks on FDR: the du Ponts of Delaware. They were the founders of the largest chemical company in the U.S.: E.I. du Pont de Nemours & Company, otherwise known simply as Du Pont. Keep in mind that they are not mere throwbacks to the 1930s. Ultra-conservative in their poli ...

The acceptance speeches by Paul Ryan and Mitt Romney at the GOP convention were only slightly more grounded in reality than Clint Eastwood’s conversation with an empty chair. Ryan is infamous for his pack of lies, from the attempt to blame President Obama for the closing of a Wisconsin GM factory that began shutting down during the Bush presidency, to the fantasy that Ryan’s austerity agenda is about something other than gutting Social Security, Medicare and Medicaid in order to enrich Wall Street speculators and the insurance industry. Sales of Ayn Rand’s most acclaimed novel, Atlas Shrugged, have more than tripled since President Obama was elected, and an increasing amount of Americans have since taken a very idealistic approach to benefit programs such as Medicare, Medicaid, and Social Security. Mitt Romney promises to make 12 million jobs, but has yet to outline a plan of how he plans to do that, other than get rid of President Obama. That isn't a plan. I want to see a real plan worked out in detail with names and promises from those names that they plan to help make 12 million jobs. Otherwise, I'm liable to believe that he means 12 million jobs in the other 149 countries and not the United States. Romney's good at outsourcing jobs. Destroying is what he knows best and he's already promised to destroy Medicaid, destroy Medicare, destroy Social Security and destroy national Health Care, but not really much on what he plans to build. He sounds like a Republican nutjob.
"Think for a moment what a problem that would have been for the Romney/RNC cabal. While Romney/Ryan tried to pass themselves off as champions of small government even as they propose to spend more during their first year in office than Obama is spending now, Ron Paul would have talked about his budget that would have cut $1 trillion during his first year in office. While Paul Ryan was attacking President Obama for cutting Medicare, Ron Paul would present his plan to phase out both Social Security and Medicare while still maintaining benefits for those who paid into the programs. While Romney beat the war drums against Iran, Ron Paul would talk not only about getting U.S. troops out of the Middle East, but getting out of Germany, Japan, Korea and 100 other countries as well. That may not have played well with the aging neoconservatives, but millions of people watching on television would have heard a completely different Republican platform. In short, a Ron Paul speech at the RNC would have been about real ...
I just watched some awesome, inspiring speeches over the last 4 days of the DNC convention. I was impressed with the detail, numbers and heart felt responses. I beg of the undecideds who did not take the opportunity to watch the conventions, to locate the speeches on the internet and watch. There are 2 very different and varying visions running against each other and to vote uninformed is dangerous. Just do not vote based on TV commercials, they are all lies. Become informed, see what both sides stand for and their vision for the future. Honestly, the best speeches for the DNC was Pres. Bill Clinton, Sen. John Kerry and President Obama. Do the research. Very important decisions about our future (especially women, children, Social Security and disabled). My decision has been made. Want questions answered, I'd be glad to offer my side. My family is truly dependent on the outcome of the election. Please get involved!
Please Mr. President: As the Democratic National Convention draws to a close tonight, Bernie laid out a strong, six-point agenda for the American Middle Class that he hopes President Obama embraces. In a column for USA Today, Bernie detailed the plan that includes defending Social Security, creating jobs, ending tax breaks for the wealthy, promoting clean energy, tightening the reins on Wall Street and overturning the Citizens United ruling that let corporations and billionaires buy politicians. As the longest serving independent in congressional history, Bernie also assessed how Republican nominee Mitt Romney has embraced the failed economic policies of George W. Bush, including more tax breaks for the rich, more job-destroying “free trade” and more Wall Street deregulation. Continue reading the latest Bernie Buzz here:
Three years after he was elected, the President was accused by the Republican Party of being wasteful, that his stimulus program had done nothing to help the economy. The Republican presidential candidate argued that the new social programs instituted under the president needed to be repealed, because the administration was undermining American individualism and self-sufficiency. The President reminded the voters that the depression had started under a Republican administration. The Republican candidate told the American People that the Federal Government needed to stay out of business affairs, and that the President needed to be faulted for not completely repairing the economy in the three and a half years he had been in office. The public opinion polls saw a tight race, and bold newspapers said that the Republican would win in a landslide. That President was not President Obama, but President Franklin Delano Roosevelt. Those social programs were part of the New Deal, and includes Social Security, ...
In a week with more political rhetoric than usual, Sen. Bernie Sanders offered facts to counter the fiction in Republican assaults on Social Security, Medicare and Medicaid. At the Republican National Convention, wealt hy donors hobnobbed Wednesday on a yacht flying a flag of the Cayman Islands, the tax haven where Mitt Romney and other wealthy individuals shelter their fortunes to avoid paying U.S. taxes. President Obama weighed in on Wednesday for a constitutional amendment to undo Citizens United. In the Senate, Sanders is the sponsor of an amendment to reverse the Supreme Court decision that let business and billionaires bankroll (mostly Republican) campaigns. Meanwhile, several states (with Republican governors) have put new laws on the books to discourage voting by young and old and poor people. A federal court on Thursday struck down one such an anti-democratic law in Texas. A Government Accountability Office investigation, which was requested by Sanders, is looking at similar laws in other states. ...

My name is Mae Yates, and in March I celebrated my 90th birthday. I remember a time before Social Security and Medicare. As a child growing up in the Great Depression, I know first-hand how these programs changed the lives of millions of Americans for the better. But Mitt Romney and Paul Ryan want to turn Medicare into a voucher system and privatize Social Security, ending these programs as we know them. Romney and Ryan's plan's would raise the cost of healthcare for seniors by thousands of dollars every year, and for millions of Florida women like me, the costs would be even higher. This isn't only about my generation -- I'm worried about the future for my children, my grandchildren, and my great-grandchildren. We must to act now to secure the future for them. You can help the Florida Democratic Party fight to protect Medicare and Social Security by re-electing President Obama -- will you donate $5 or more today? Thank you for standing with Florida Democrats to fight back against the extremism of the R ...
I was listening to an old favorite Jerry Garcia song and hearing the line “Don’t lend your hand to raise no flag atop no ship of fools.” In my mind unless you are very very rich and its ill gotten booty this is what you are doing if you vote republican this fall. One of my very smart FB friends said this morning “This election is not about race.” I have agreed with that since President Obama announced his candidacy in 2007. While I thought it was high time for a minority president I didn’t care WHICH minority. Black, female, Jewish, Asian American. Fine. I wanted someone who understood that we all worked for our Medicare and Social Security. Have paid for it all our lives. Understood that everyone deserves Health Care and that companies are built and sustained by the people who work hard for them all their lives and expect their share of the profits. I did NOT want another president who inherited a pile of ill-gotten money. On the other hand, unlike some of my republican friends and ...
via~ Marian Fisher Baby Boomers and Senior Citizens Against Republicans & The Tea Party: *** OF THE WEEK - Right wing extremist media sources are the winners of our special "tinfoil" *** Of The Week award, for spinning insane fabricatEd News stories to frighten crazy teabaggers. As a result, they're in a state of panic, and actually believe President Obama will declare martial law in November to stop the election. Many of them are stockpiling food and guns, just incase, and Michael Savage advertises freeze dried dinners for purchase in the event of an emergency. If that's not the most ridiculous thing you've ever heard, hold on. The latest propaganda, to add to the paranoia of the lunatic fringe, is the Social Security office has purchased 174,000 rounds of hollow point bullets (we kid you not, and heard it on a conservative radio program on 8/15/12). How stupid do you have to be to believe this garbage? Incredible!"
*Steps up on Soap Box* Dear President Obama and Mit Romney! Could you both do me a favor and stop bashing each other inthese debates hoping to win over votes,it is unproductive and not what I want to hear,I am sick and tired of hearing what you are going to do but never explain HOW this is to be accomplished and unless you both can give me a sure set plan that is FEASABLE I am not listening...aside from healthcare,Social Security what about the collpased housing market which is one of the downfalls of this economy...Obama? Are You An Extremist? After Paul Ryan was announced as Mitt Romney's running mate, it took less than 24 hours for The New York Times to define Congressman Paul Ryan as an "extremist". In a lead editorial the paper bannered this subheadline: "With no plan of his own, Mr. Romney can't distance himself from Mr. Ryan's extremist vision." That "vision" would be federal spending cuts and entitlement reform. While Chairman of the House Budget Committee, Ryan sent two spending bills to the Full House, both of which passed but were killed in the Senate - which is controlled by the Democrats. The bills cut federal programs across the board. Mr. Ryan is also a fan of reforming Medicare and Social Security, which are going bankrupt. In the bubble that is the liberal media, trimming government spending and making entitlements more fiscally viable ARE extreme positions. That's somewhat ironic because President Obama's strategy of massive government spending and borrowing is perhaps the most extreme economic plan in the ...

Why would anyone in there right mind vote for Mit Romney. He and his new choice for vice pres. want to remove Social Security, screw up Medicare, Lower taxes for the rich and the *** with the poor and Middle Class. Are You forgetting that it has been the Republicans that has been saying NO to everything that pressident Obama has tried to accomplish. Have you forgotten that President Obama got rid of Bin Laden. You Republicans are caught up in just voting for Republicans that are for nothing but themselves, just because they are Republicans. WHAT IS WRONG HERE!
Just reminding all you people who love Mitt Romney & Paul Ryan and hate that black guy Obama. President Obama has never mentioned any desire to wipe out the life savings Trillion dollar trust funds known as Social Security & Medicare. When you are refused at the hospital and forced to work when your seventy years old - just to make ends meet - don't come crying to me when you helped them do what they promised to do.
Write something... Status Update By Bill Press President Obama could not have picked a better running mate for Mitt Romney. From now on, the campaign is not about jobs. It's about gutting Social Security, ending Medicare, and eliminating Medicaid. That's the Ryan plan, and Romney has swallowed it whole. Bring it on!! Congressman Chris Van Hollen (D-MD) has worked closely with Rep. Ryan, as Ranking Member of the House Budget Committee. He joins Monday's show at 8:30 AM ET to discuss the running mate pick. Also, The Nation's John Nichols joins us live from Wisconsin. 6-9 AM ET on Current and your local progressive talk station!
Nancy Ann Kiser-Ceballos shared PoliticsNation with Al Sharpton's photo. to all my family and friends who rely on Medicare, Social Security, Medicaid: please this time do not vote for someone who does not have your interest at heart. Listen to other news sources other than Fox News; because Fox News is lying to you!!! Do the research and vote for someone that really cares about you and your family. That is why I am voting for President Obama because is he taking good care of all of you!
Alan: "I just had ANOTHER conversation with a good friend who is thinking "Well, if Romney wins, he'll soften up on the key issues." Let's be straight with one another. With Romney as president, there will certainly be a Tea Party-leaning Senate in addition to a Tea Party-leaning House. Good-bye Social Security. Good-bye Medicare. Romney won't soften up one bit. Don't kid yourself. President Obama loses if Democrats don't vote, whether out of apathy--which the polls are showing, currently--or because of voter suppression, which the GOP is pushing very hard. Good-bye extra unemployment benefits, good-bye tax cuts for the Middle Class. Good-bye ACA. Good-bye Planned Parenthood. Good-bye legal abortions. Good bye legal birth control. Don't kid yourself. And this only scratches the surface. We haven't even started thinking about the things global corporations will want to extract. Natrual gas wells in everyone's back yards. Oil wells every 1,000 feet all along the Arctic Wilderness. And wars never-ending with ...

The Week in Review: The Senate on Wednesday voted to extend tax cuts for most working Americans but end Bush-era tax breaks for top income brackets. Sen. Bernie Sanders on Thursday called out deficit hawk hypocrites who supported wars, the wealthy and Wall Street and now want to cut programs for working families like Social Security. Speaking of which, why isn’t President Obama defending Social Security? That’s a question Sanders raised in a Senate speech on Tuesday. “Have you heard him? I haven't heard him,” Sanders said. “It causes me concern.” On Tuesday, Sanders testified about his amendment to undo Citizens United. On Wednesday, he spoke at the International AIDS conference on a proposal to make medicine more affordable. And on Friday, he saluted Vermont athletes as the Summer Olympics opened in London.
Neo-conservative Republicans continue their four year commitment to blocking all efforts by President Obama at job creation. To paraphrase Senate minority leader Mitch Mcconnell who three years ago said, We (neo-conservatives) have only one objective and that is to make President Obama a one term president. And they have proven many times over that they are willing to sacrifice Americans' health, jobs, and children to achieve that goal. The latest was example was Senate Republicans on Thursday blocked the No.1 item on the president's congressional "to-do-list," (job creation) by refusing to allow a vote on a bill that would give tax breaks for companies that "insource" jobs to the U.S. from overseas while eliminating tax deductions for companies that move jobs abroad. And if the neo-conservatives are successful in November we will return power to the very people who created the Great Recession and who have, in very clear terms, stated their hatred of Obama, Social Security, Medicare, Medicaid, school lo ...
I'm sure you've heard by now: Allen West has again embarrassed and offended the people of Florida's 18th district. This is what he told an interviewer on Fox News Sunday about Social Security disability benefits: "We're creating this sense of economic dependence which, to me, is a form of modern, 21st-century slavery." And this was just days after he claimed that President Obama doesn't want the American People to "have the self-esteem of getting up," and that "he'd rather you be his slave." His inability to simply be civil to his political opponents only adds to the public's cynicism and pessimism with Washington. It's time we move past partisan rhetoric and start taking action on the issues that matter. Sign my petition now and demand that Allen West stop the divisive rhetoric. Enough is enough. Let's send a clear message to Allen West that the voters of Florida's 18th have had enough of his political rhetoric and extremism. Thank you for standing with me. Patrick Murphy Candidate for Congress Flori ...
Governor Romney has just completed an address to the NAACP convention in Houston, Texas where he laid down the unvarnished truth about his hopes for being elected President of our United States Of America. In his fireside style of talk, he expressed his planned style of management of our nation's extreme debt that has been exacerbated by President Obama's failed bailouts and damaging attacks on our nations energy industry. His plan is to move to eliminate the plan called, "Obamacare," because of it's outlandish increase in taxes and attacks on the healthcare industry, intruding on the privacy and freedom to choose our own Health Insurance. Businesses will be over burdened with higher employee plans and penalties if they choose to opt out! Social Security, Medicare and Medicaid can be strengthened and freedom to choose can prevail. Our nation's small businesses will have a better chance to grow and thrive under his plan. Gov. Romney's plan for education focuses on elevating struggling schools to productive ...
My sister and I plan to volunteer our time on behalf of President Obama's campaign this fall. If Mitt Romney gets elected you can kiss your Medicare & Social Security goodbye. College loans? they'll be gone too! National right to work laws will be implemented. The Minimum Wage will go away. It will be like the New Deal never existed. The US will be a democracy in name only. Instead we will have an oligarchy ruled by the Koch Brothers and other millionaire elites. It is essential that President Obama gets reelected so we can retain a government of the people and not a government of the corporations!
President Obama Paying Your Electric Bill? Scam A warning tonight about a scam hitting the southeast, including some people here in Eastern Carolina. President Barack Obama is not going to pay your utility bill. Progress Energy is urging its customers be on alert for the new bill payment scam. Scammers claim the president will pay customers’ utility bills through a new federal program. Progress Energy says its received reports of customers who have been contacted about this scam in its Carolinas and Florida service territories. According to the Better Business Bureau, customers have been contacted in person and through fliers, social media and text messages with claims that President Obama is providing credits or applying payments to utility bills. To receive the money, scammers claim they need the customers' Social Security and bank routing numbers. In return, customers are given a false bank routing number that will supposedly pay their utility bills. The utility says in reality, there is no money, an ...
George W. Bush enacted his "Bush Tax Cuts" in 2001 & 2003. According to the non-partisan Congressional Research Service, the estimated loss in revenue over the last 10 years is just under $3 trillion. If you include the interest that needs to be paid, you can add another $606 billion, for a total of $3.6 trillion. It will be interesting to see if the Republicans, who are SO concerned about the deficit they want to "reform" your Medicare & Social Security, will force President Obama's hand in extending these cuts once again & give billionaires the tax cuts they need to "create jobs" (as they have done such a great job of doing over the last 4 years).
The ‘Unaffordable HealthCare Act’ Our Gross Domestic Product is $14,582,400,000,000. (a little rounding here) Healthcare cost was 15.3% of GDP in 2010 and projected to be 17.7% in 2012. Current Medicare (Part A only) taxes are 2.9% of earned income. Seniors are paying a bit more from their Social Security in for Medicare Part B but not that enough to cover this gap. To cover the necessary cost of the ‘Affordable HealthCare Act’ will require additional tax income of more that 15% (not everyone earns enough to pay taxes). This does not reduce your FICA or other Income Tax liabilities. Since an estimated 15% of Americans don’t have Healthcare or the resources to pay for it that burden will be passed on to taxpayers. This will make the 15% somewhere north of 16.5% in new taxes. Consider that close to 50% of all Americans pay no taxes at all. Now, think about what your additional tax liability is going to be. Justice Roberts just handed President Obama a huge Cherry Bomb, the fuse is burning and ...
It's a great day for Americans - we, the little people - with affirmation of President Obama's Affordable Health Care Act. After the two Citizens United decisions, I didn't think Chief Justice Roberts had it in him to rise above partisan politics and become a true constitutional justice. (I'm still holding my breath, but I AM breathing easier today.) Now, it is up to the crafters and supporters of this landmark legislation to help explain to the American People what is in it and why it will be recorded in history as one of our most precious protections, along with Social Security. The conservative bloggermouths must NOT be allowed to continue to redefine it and shape the debate on this! Thank you, President Obama. You rock!
REPOSTED: Raoul Cannon The Health Care Act was UPHELD which I as a GOP member am extremely proud it did and it was UPHELD with a deciding vote by a CONSERVATIVE JUSTICE(Justice Roberts) and IT was ALWAYS LEGAL which is funny as the current GOP leadership are quick to forget it was once Richard Nixon's IDEA and he went a step further he wanted it as a SINGLE PAYER SYSTEM like Social Security. Also Bob Dole 15 years ago proposed the EXACT BILL and it was supported by the GOP except for a few and President Obama implemented every part which the GOP supported yet the CURRENT crop of Talk Show Blow Hards and GOP leaders will not acknowledge this as it was passed by President Obama a BLACK MAN so they railed against it even though it was filled with GOP language which was once looked upon fondly.Great Job Prez

The Obama White House is drawing ridicule for appending the official online biographies of nearly every president over the last century in order to link President Obama's accomplishments to the former commanders in chief. The Obama team went into the pages of U.S. presidents dating back to Calvin Coolidge to add friendly looking "Did you know?" fact boxes to the end of their bios. Those additions were used to plug a host of Obama administration initiatives, ranging from the Health Care overhaul to the so-called "Buffett Rule" to his green-energy policies. For instance, the following line was added to the official bio of the late President Ronald Reagan: "In a June 28, 1985, speech, Reagan called for a fairer tax code, one where a multimillionaire did not have a lower tax rate than his secretary. Today, President Obama is calling for the same with the Buffett Rule." There's this at the bottom of the Franklin D. Roosevelt biography, for instance: "On August 14, 1935, President Roosevelt signed the Social Se ...
Here U have Karl Rove, the "LEAKER" (along with Scooter Libby) who SHOULD BE "Rotting in Jail" for "OUTING VALERIE PLAME" (an American "Secret-Service Agent")... having the AUDACITY 2 "DUMP ON" President Obama- not as a "News Analyst" for Fox "Fake & Biased" News... but as an "ORGANIZER FOR A SUPER-PAC" Funding MITT ROB-ME'S "Election Campaign... Besides, having his "Facts" all "Wrong" (Obama never "Promised": Unemployment going down to 5%; it was the "Trend Predicted" by the Congressional Budget Office, before discovering the US Economy was "MUCH WORSE" THAN THEY "THOUGHT"- when President Bush "left Office"!) What a "HATCHET-JOB" by Fox, Rove, & all of the "Romney-Liers" who will "SAY ANYTHING" & NOT GIVE OBAMA "CREDIT FOR ANYTHING" (even "Ridding us of Osama Bin Laden", & "Creating 4 Million more Private-Sector Jobs", since our "President Took-Office"!) It is obvious to all but the "Teabaggers" & "Wall Street Carpetbaggers"- that the "REPUBLI-THUG Party", is DOING EVERYTHING THEY "CAN". ...
From Glenn Greenwald at Salon.com Not only did President Obama propose large cuts to Social Security and Medicare, he has been assuring Washington insiders such as GOP Sen. Tom Coburn that he intends even larger ones if re-elected: If President Obama is president again, those problems are still there and we have to solve them. He knows that. We’ve had conversations where he’s told me he’ll go much further than anyone believes he’ll go to solve the entitlement problem if he can get the compromise. And I believe him. I believe he would.
This the first election since Citizens United. Show Wall Street and the Koch Brothers and Mitt this country isn't for sale. Get out and get active. Give money to Elizabeth Warren who is getting pummeled because of all the Wall Streeters giving money to Scott Brown. Give money to Tom Barrett who is running against the evil Scott Walker. Give money to Ron Barber who is running for Gabby Giffords seat against a guy who at least USED to be against Social Security and Medicare before he started running. He's still against women's rights and health. And of course get out and show your support for President Obama. The polls scare me. Don't get complacent. That Citizens United money is changing the landscape and what we think is a sure thing may not be so sure. It really is up to us.
President Me Reflecting on his two terms in office, President George W. Bush said in 2010, "You realize you're not it. You're a part of something bigger than yourself." This is a sentiment President Barack Obama did not inherit from his successor. Over the past month we have witnessed several displays of arrogant power emanating from our White House, emphasizing fealty to a person over the integrity of an American institution. Some are more serious than others. First, this week it was discovered that White House staff had edited the biographies of many past presidents on whitehouse.gov to include a bullet point or two inserting President Obama into each historical narrative. For example, while President Calvin Coolidge had been the first president to make a public radio address, President Obama is on LinkedIn; and while Social Security was introduced by President Roosevelt, under President Obama it still exists. But in a far more egregious example, they incorrectly added to President Ronald Reagan's biogr ...

My apparently "not-so" conservative republican rant on President Obama's decision to support *** marriage in the wake of NC's decision to ban it. How does our government fail our citizenship? By denying citizens access to marriage you deny them many basic privileges and benefits that other citizens have access. How many are we talking about? In 2004 the General Accounting office listed 1,138 federal statutory provisions classified to the United States Code in which benefits, rights, and privileges are contingent on marital status or in which marital status is a factor. These include: Social Security, housing, food stamps, veteran's benefits - such as pensions and survivor benefits, taxes on income, estates, gifts, property sales, and benefits due federal employees - civilian and military. Marriage status affects the rights of the widow or widower of the creator of a copyrighted work, it affects financial disclosure requirements, and prevents employers in the private sector from providing Health Care, pens ...
(CNN) -- Last week, President Obama's campaign launched a fictional storybook ad called, "The Life of Julia." The slide show narrative follows Julia, a cartoon character, from age 3 to age 67 and explains how Obama's policies, from Head Start to Obamacare to mandated contraception coverage to Medicare reform, would provide Julia with a better life than Mitt Romney or Paul Ryan could. Julia is not your typical all-American Girl, but an obviously independent, yuppie liberal woman. She goes to public school, graduates college, and becomes a Web designer. She is able to pursue her career because, at age 27, "her Health Insurance is required to cover birth control and preventive care, letting Julia focus on her work rather than worry about her health." At age 31 she "decides to have a child," with no mention of a father or husband. Her son Zachary heads off to a Race to the Top funded public school, while Julia goes on to start her own Web business. She retires at age 67 with Social Security and Medicare suppo ...
Progressive FDR: If Woodrow Wilson is viewed as the "Father of Liberal Progressives", FDR is its patron saint. New Deal, Social Security, concern for social justice, equality and a fair shake for all. President Obama calls him "...the greatest president and my personal role model..." Really? FDR interned 120,000 Japanese American citizens, considered both Racial Profiling & unconstitutional at the time. After the 1936 Olympics, white athletes were invited to the WH to meet FDR, but not blacks, including Jesse Owens, winner of 4 gold medals. As Ownes wrote "...Hitler did not snub me, FDR did...I got better treatment from the Nazis than my own president..." In 1939,the MS St Louis, a steamer containing 937 German Jewish refugees fleeing Hitler, were denied access by FDR. Secretary of State Cordell Hull "...we're not taking their Jews. We have enough of our own..." Forced to return to various unoccupied countries in Europe, including France, over 250 eventually died in concentration camps.
Quoting Abraham Lincoln, President Obama touted strong government, including public education, Social Security and building infrastructure, to about 3,000 Florida Atlantic University students and faculty this afternoon.
UPDATE: Wednesday 8:30 p.m. - Simpson isn't going anywhere, the New York Times reports. "Alan Simpson has apologized and while we regret and do not condone his comments, we accept his apology and he will continue to serve," White House spokesperson Jennifer Psaki told the Times. UPDATE: Wednesday 3:59 p.m. - Sen. Bernie Sanders (I-Vt.) and Rep. Peter DeFazio (D-Ore.) called on President Obama to fire Alan Simpson from the deficit commission for referring to Social Security as "a milk cow with 310 million *** " in an email this week to OWL executive director Ashley Carson.
