Potential England Squad changes for Six Nations 2014 January 8, 2014 England have plenty of injuries and absent players to contend with, so we’ve taken a look at who might replace them when the 2014 Six Nations squad is announced tomorrow. Injured: Alex Corbisiero Likely squad replacement: Matt Mullan Bolter: Alex Waller Despite Paul Doran-Jones’ presence in the Saxons squad, Matt Mullan was the man to step up in the Autumn when an injury crisis at loosehead occurred. He is likely to do so again, although Alex Waller, has been deputising for Corbisiero at the Saints in a very accomplished manner and could be in the mix. Stranger things have happened. Injured: Tom Croft Likely squad replacement: Tom Johnson Bolter: Luke Wallace England’s back-row is fairly settled, so any changes here will likely only be for squad purposes. With that in mind, would it be more beneficial to give a young gun like Luke Wallace a bit of experience of the England environment? He has been wearing six for Quins this season, ...
England search for Flood replacement 23rd December 2013 11:16 Toby Flood's cross-channel switch next season means England must now decide on who to back up Owen Farrell going into the RWC 2015. Farrell, England's number one, has only missed the Six Nations match against Italy this year since being used as a replacement against South Africa in November 2012. Although criticism remains over his ability to open up England's attack, the Saracen is the clear frontrunner in the position due to lack of clear competition around him. Flood indeed was Farrell's main rival, along with being England's most experience player during the November Tests with his 60 caps. All but confirmed, Flood's move to France - most likely to Toulouse - will render him unavailable for selection from next season such is England's policy with overseas players. The decision to be made by England head coach Stuart Lancaster is whether to use Flood in next year's Six Nations or to start developing a secondary and tertiary fly-half option a ...

Stoop to conquer While you've all been getting your breath back after a fantastic fortnight of Six Nations action, I've been on the hunt for the best bets ahead of this weekend's Aviva Premiership fixtures. The big match on Saturday sees the top two in the table going head-to-head as Harlequins welcome Leicester Tigers to the Twickenham Stoop. Second-placed Quins start the game as marginal favourites due to home advantage, however I fancy Leicester to nick this one and increase their lead at the top. The Tigers welcome back England trio Toby Flood, Manu Tuilagi and Thomas Waldrom, while four players; Tom and Ben Youngs, Geoff Parling and Dan Cole remain in the England camp. The stats, however, are hugely in... ~puffin
Six Nations; England v Scotland preview Uncapped Gloucester centre Billy Twelvetrees will start for England against Scotland at Twickenham on Saturday. Twelvetrees comes in for Manu Tuilagi, while Joe Marler replaces Alex Corbisiero in two changes from the side that started againstNew Zealandin December. Dylan Hartley, Toby Flood and David Strettle come on to the replacements’ bench for David Paice, Freddie Burns and Jonathan Joseph respectively. “We are happy to stick with the team that did so well against New Zealand, especially in light of the fact that they have all been in good form for their clubs since then,” said England head coach Stuart Lancaster. “There were some very tight calls, with some experienced players coming back into contention, and I am sure the bench will have a significant impact on the game. “We can’t wait to get back to Twickenham and hopefully experience the same atmosphere as the autumn when the crowd was superb. It means a lot to the players to have such support in ...
