England rise to dramatic win over Wales to leave Six Nations open • England 29-18 Wales There is a slightly old-fashioned feel about a Triple Crown these days but England will hope this sunny Sunday afternoon is the prelude to an extremely bright future. Some victories retain a lingering significance and, with Wales in their Rugby World Cup pool next year, this could be one of them. Even if Stuart Lancaster's side fail to nick this year's Six Nations title, they will still have taken a massive stride forwards. Already they have managed what no English side has done since the World Cup winners of 2003 and beat the Welsh, the Irish and the Scots in the same season. But for a couple of wicked bounces of the ball in Paris last month they would be within one win of a grand slam with this weekend's trip to Italy to come. As it is, they now need to defeat the Italians and hope France do them a favour by beating Ireland later the same day. A convenient draw at the Stade de France would be even better. Either wa ...
Sam Burgess leaves Rugby League for Rugby Union. Bath sign England Rugby league forward England Rugby league forward Sam Burgess is to switch codes and move to Bath on a three-year contract. The Premiership club will pay Australian side South Sydney Rabbitohs about £270,000 (AUS$500,000 Australian dollars) for the 25-year-old. He will join at the end of the NRL season in October. "With 2015 being a Rugby World Cup, it was an opportunity I had to pursue," Burgess said. "I can't wait to get my head down and start learning the game." The forward played four times in the 2013 Rugby League World Cup as England were beaten by New Zealand in the semi-final. England Rugby union head coach Stuart Lancaster met Burgess in Australia in August, and sees him playing at centre in the 15-man game. The 2015 Six Nations starts on 6 February, giving Burgess around three months to adapt for that tournament. The 2015 World Cup, which is being held in England, starts in September. Burgess said: "This has been a tough decisio ...
Best of the Weekend: Wales fall at the final hurdle December 2, 2013 Same old story for Wales Australia turned in one of the performances of their season, as they saw off the challenge of Wales at a packed Millennium Stadium, triumphing 30-26. Arguably the best test of the QBE Internationals, neutrals were treated to a ferocious and intense match, but ultimately the skill of Quade Cooper at fly half, and the tenacity of Australia at the breakdown, were enough to edge the result in their favour. George North, Toby Faletau, and Alun Wyn Jones in particular shone for Wales, but a combination of injuries and a resurgent Wallaby performance, meant that Wales are still left searching for that elusive win against one of the southern hemisphere’s ‘Big Three’. Wales have now lost 18 consecutive tests against the SANZAR nations, and turning their impressive Six Nations form into wins against these sides remains Warren Gatland’s biggest headache, as attentions turn inevitably towards the Rugby World Cup in 2 ...
Test debut for Malherbe as Pietersen, Fourie return to Springbok XV November 06, 2013 Experienced backline stars JP Pietersen and Jaque Fourie are back in the Springbok team for Saturday’s Castle Lager Outgoing Tour opener against Wales in Cardiff, while Frans Malherbe will make his Test debut at the Millennium Stadium. In naming his side for Saturday’s Test against the current Six Nations champions, Springbok coach Heyneke Meyer has decided to hand Fourie his first Test for South Africa since the Rugby World Cup in 2011, while a combination of injury and non-availability means Pietersen is back for his first taste of international rugby yet this season. “We’re very fortunate to have two world-class players in JP and Jaque available for selection and I wanted to get then into the action as soon as possible,” said Meyer. “They bring a vast amount of experience to the team and it was clear from our training sessions thus far that they are in great form and ready for Test rugby.” In the front r ...

Edwards leaves London Irish to focus on Wales Aviva Premiership Rugby club London Irish have confirmed that Shaun Edwards will no longer work with the club and that Brian Smith will look after their defence. Wales Assistant coach Edwards joined the club in the middle of last year on a consultancy basis but he will now concentrate on his commitments with the Welsh Rugby Union as they prepare for the fourth coming Six Nations Championship and the 2015 Rugby World Cup. London Irish Director of Rugby, Brian Smith said: "I have always been a supporter of Shaun Edwards and that will not change." "He is a world class defence coach and has put in place structures, strategies and techniques that we will take forward. I will step up on the defensive side for the remainder of this season. " "We would like to thank him for his efforts over the last six months and wish him well for the future."
DEIGHTON & BEAUMONT JOIN 2015World Cup BOARD London Olympics chief executive Paul Deighton has been appointed to the board of England Rugby 2015. England’s 2015 World Cup organising committee today announced Deighton and former England captain Bill Beaumont as its latest board member additions. It means that Deighton will link up again with former LOCOG director of sport Debbie Jevans, now England Rugby 2015′s chief executive. Deighton’s Olympics role included leading LOCOG’s day-to-day operations and having responsibility for a £2billion budget from the private sector. “Everyone recognises that the London Olympics and Paralympics have set a high benchmark for international sports events that follow,” Deighton said. “I want to bring the knowledge and experience gleaned from my time with LOCOG to help ensure that the organisation, delivery and feelgood factor of the Rugby World Cup in 2015 is right up there with London 2012.” Beaumont, the current Rugby Football Union and Six Nations chair ...

Ireland have been drawn in the same 2015 Rugby World Cup pool as France and Italy, along with a qualifier from the Americas and Europe. Happy with the draw?
New Zealand’s last defeat at home was on the 12th of September 2009 when they were beaten 32-29 by South Africa. They have lost just three of their last 32 matches at home. • New Zealand’s last defeat against a northern hemisphere side at home was the 27-22 defeat at the hands of France in Dunedin in 2009. • Since their thrilling 15-6 win over Australia in the Rugby World Cup, Ireland have beaten only Russia, Scotland and Italy twice. A 17-17 draw with France in Paris was the highlight of their Six Nations campaign but they have since conceded 72 points in their last two games against England (30-9) and New Zealand (41-10).
Thanks! It's my first football one but I did a couple of nifty ones for the Rugby World Cup and the Six Nations.
