Butterflies. Innocent, pretty and rather peaceful. You have been led astray. As the Giant African Swallowtail is not as pretty, innocent and peaceful as its international relatives. The Giant African Swallowtail (Papilio antimachus) is a butterfly in the family Papilionidae. With a wingspan between 18 and 23 centimeters (7.1 and 9.1 in), it is the largest butterfly in Africa and among the largest butterflies in the world. P. antimachus live in the tropical rain forests of West and Central Africa. The distribution area (range) stretches from Angola, Cameroon, Democratic Republic of Congo, Republic of the Congo, Gabon, Ghana, Ivory Coast, Liberia, Nigeria, Sierra Leone, and Uganda. The male is larger than the female and can often be seen in groups at nectar. The females show themselves less, continually flying high above the tree tops. The butterfly has no natural enemies because it is very toxic. SO toxic the butterflies poison can kill up to 8-9 cats or dogs. The life cycle of the African giant swallowtail ...

Liberia /laɪˈbɪəriə/, officially the Republic of Liberia, is a country in West Africa bordered by Sierra Leone to its west, Guinea to its north and Ivory Coast to its east. It covers an area of 111,369 square kilometres (43,000 sq mi) and is home to about 4 million people. English is the official language and over thirty indigenous languages are also spoken within the country. Its coastline is composed mostly of mangroves, while its more sparsely populated inland consists of forests opening onto a plateau of drier grasslands. The climate is hot and equatorial, with significant rainfall during the May–October rainy season and harsh harmattan winds the remainder of the year. The country possesses about forty percent of the remaining Upper Guinean rainforest. Liberia is the only country in Africa founded by United States colonization while occupied by native Africans. Beginning in 1820, the region was colonized by African Americans, most of whom were freed slaves. The colonists established a new coun ...

I think the media is doing a disservice to Africa by repeatedly referring to the Ebola epidemic as being in Africa or in West Africa. There are fifteen countries that are considered to be in West Africa and three have been affected by the virus.Think before condemning an entire continent that by-the-way consists of over 50 countries. "In line with the current membership of the Economic Community of West African States (ECOWAS), West Africa has been defined in Africa as including the fifteen countries of Benin, Burkina Faso, Cape Verde, Gambia, Ghana, Guinea, Guinea-Bissau, Ivory Coast, Liberia, Mali, Niger, Nigeria, Senegal, Sierra Leone and Togo."
DEMYSTIFYING INCUMBENCY FACTOR:: SIGNPOST TO IMMINENT 2015 INCUMBENT DEFEAT: For four decades post-independence, regime change through democratic elections was unheard of in Africa. In some countries, regime change was even impossible constitutionally because one-party rule was legitimized by constitutional instrument. On the other hand, countries whose constitutions had provisions for multi-party in practice, as the incumbent presidents or prime- ministers as the case may be, sat tight, often changing the provisions of the constitution regarding tenure to perpetuate their rule. However beginning from the 1990s, there have been pockets of democratic regime changes in Africa. Here am referring to inter-party change whereby upon defeat of a ruling party’s candidate, power is ceded to an opposition candidate as was the case in Zambia (1991), Ghana (2000), Senegal (2000),Kenya (2002), Benin Republic (2006), Sierra Leone (2007), Ivory Coast (2010) and Malawi (2014) To enhance the preparation of the Nigerian ...
They’re riding high again, that ruthless gang of neo-liberal interventionists who dismembered Yugoslavia in the 1990s and whose underlings introduced Factor-8 HIV-infected blood plasma to cause an AIDS crisis across the war-torn Balkans. Today the target is Africa and their newest bio-weapon of choice ebola. Indicted here are the Four Horsemen of pestilence, famine, war and death: Tony Blair, George Soros, Anthony Lake and Bernard Kouchner. Posing as saviors of humanity, these arch-criminals are charging into Africa in the service of the diabolical union between the British Crown and House of Rothschild. The devious plan to release the Zaire ebola strain into West Africa is aimed at a takeover of the rugged mineral-rich interior of Guinea, Sierra Leone, Liberia and Ivory Coast. Whoever wins the struggle for mining rights, which promise super-profits far in excess of the Blood Diamond conflicts, will be positioned as middleman between the global economy’s biggest steelmakers, particularly those in Chin ...
The primary responsibility of the leader of “any” country is to safeguard the wellbeing, security, and health of the citizens of their country. Current polls indicate that the American people have lost confidence in the elected leader of the United States, because the Obama administration is not taking the necessary steps to restrict potentially infected passengers from Guinea, Liberia, and Sierra Leone in West Africa from entering the United States, in order to safeguard the lives and security of American citizens from being infected with the Ebola Virus. The occupant of the Oval Office responsibility is to protect the health and safety of all Americans from being infected with diseases being carried by millions of infected Illegal aliens flooding across the wide open southern border. To date 22 countries have imposed travel bans on passengers with passports from West African countries (including the African nations of Togo, Gabon, the Ivory Coast, Senegal, Rwanda, Chad, South Sudan, Namibia, Angol . ...
New Ebola update. American health officials promise Ebola will never become an epidemic in the United States. But it could end up a national scourge in another way: by forcing up the price of chocolate. The two largest producers of cocoa beans—the magic ingredient that makes chocolate chocolate—are Ivory Coast (also known as Côte d’Ivoire) and Ghana, which combined provide about 60% of the world's supply. Neither country is suffering an Ebola outbreak, but they’re in the same part of West Africa that includes Liberia, Sierra Leone and Guinea, which are basically ground zero for the killer virus that has claimed more than 4,000 lives so far. Nigeria, which accounts for another 6% of the world’s cocoa beans, has had roughly two dozen confirmed cases of Ebola inside its borders. Cocoa production hasn’t shut down, but Ivory Coast has sealed its shared borders with Liberia and Guinea, constricting the flow of some workers who travel into the country to harvest beans. A trade group called the World ...

THE EDUCATION MINISTER, REPUBLIC OF GHANA. Dear Madam, POSTPONE OPENING DATES OF UNIVERSITIES TO AVOID EBOLA SPREAD IN GHANA. . I write to officially appeal to your ministry to consider delaying the re-opening of various public and private universities across the country as means of preventing the spread of the deadly Ebola Virus Disease that has thrown the West African sub region into a state of fear and panic because of it's unprecedented spread and high fatality rates. With barely a week or two to the commencement of a fresh academic semester, Ghana's universities and other tertiary institutions awaits huge numbers of international students from sister African countries . With the Ebola Virus proving to be a cross boarder disease, the influx of thousands of students from Nigeria, Liberia, Sierra Leone, Angola, Gabon, Guinea, Togo, Ivory Coast, Burkina Faso, Gambia, Equatorial Guinea and other sister African nations who could be potential carriers of the deadly Ebola Virus can expose our tertiary instit ...
How to Prevent Ebola: Ebola hemorrhagic fever (Ebola HF) is a severe and sometimes-fatal disease in humans and primates, the precise origin of which remains unknown. Most researchers believe the disease is zoonotic, meaning "animal-borne." Named after the Ebola river in the Democratic Republic of Congo where the disease was first recognized, the disease has been confirmed in Gabon, Sudan, Guinea, Liberia, Sierra Leone, the Ivory Coast, and Uganda, since its discovery in 1976. You can learn to avoid the infection, protect yourself from its effects, and what steps to take in the event you become infected. Step1 Understand how the disease is spread. Ebola HF can be spread in a number of ways, though primarily via direct contact with patients, specifically the blood and secretions of an infected patient. Contact with objects such as clothing, bedding, and needles have also been linked to the spread of the disease. [1] Because the symptoms of Ebola HF are non-specific and take a while to become severe, the spr ...
World Health Organization The World Health Organisation has warned that the Ebola outbreak, which killed more than 700 people since February, is spreading quicker than efforts to contain the disease. The WHO Director- General, Margaret Chan urged the presidents of Guinea, Liberia, Sierra Leone and Ivory Coast at a meeting in Guinea’s capital Conakry on Friday to step up efforts to avoid “catastrophic consequences”, after the global health organisation announced a $100m plan to combat the epidemic. “This outbreak is moving faster than our efforts to control it. If the situation continues to deteriorate, the consequences can be catastrophic in terms of lost lives but also severe socioeconomic disruption and a high risk of spread to other countries.” “This meeting must mark a turning point in the outbreak response,” Chan said. The outbreak is by far the largest in the four-year history of the disease, with 729 deaths so far, including more than 60 healthcare workers, and 1,323 cases overall, sh ...

CNN) - It began with a just a handful of cases in Guinea in March. But it spread quickly to two other countries and is now the deadliest outbreak of Ebola Virus on record. At least 759 people in Guinea, Sierra Leone and Liberia have been infected by Ebola since its symptoms were first observed four months ago, according to the World Health Organization. 467 of them have died. That's a 61.5 percent mortality rate. The WHO says "drastic action is needed" to contain the virus, which has spread from rural areas to cities in West Africa. It has dispatched teams of experts to the region and is holding talks this week with the health ministers from 11 countries about what to do next. Why does Ebola generate such fear? Medecins Sans Frontieres (MSF) describes Ebola as "one of the world's most deadly diseases." "It is a highly infectious virus that can kill up to 90% of the people who catch it, causing terror among infected communities," it says. There is also no vaccination against it. Of Ebola's five sub-types, ...

It is as if everyone is afraid to tell the truth in the country. This government has been in power for six years for Christ sake. They are yet to fulfill any of the things they promised you. Now things are worse than what they came to meet but our chiefs, elders, civil society, clergy, intellectuals are all sitting unconcerned. None is asking questions why. A hungry man is an angry man. Liberia was more peaceful than Ghana. Ivory Coast was more peaceful than Ghana. Sierra Leone was more peaceful than Ghana. The civil strife we are seeing on the continent is as a result of bad governance and corrupt officials. Don't think Ghana is immune. They day the nation will explode, don't say I did not warn you. The signs are clear.

BEFORE I BECAME PRESIDENT: When I become the President, I will paint the sky and install some national air conditioner to reduce the heat of the sun over the entire country. NOW THAT I AM PRESIDENT: Citizens: So you lied to us right? Hafiz: No! I fooled you guys! Did you guys really believe those things? You were so gullible! Who ever paints the sky? And to put the national air conditioner thing up, Sierra Leone, Guinea, and Ivory Coast will have to help by building huge and high walls. You guys shouldn't expect me to fence this country just because you hate heat. And more to it, the Atlantic Ocean side of this country has to be fenced as well. For that, I can ask the Chinese to do it some kind of way. But the real problem will be with the ceiling part. Either it will leak or it will fall on us. So if you guys know what I know, you will just return to your normal businesses and wait for the next show! Thank you for your understanding. Citizens: O' Hafiz, we like you O' Hafiz, Da lay fact!

Mandingo peoples, languages and influence: Mandingo, also known as Malinke, Mandinka, Maninka or Manding is a West African tribe, linked with the ancient Central Saharan lineage. They are Africa's most prominent Ethno-Linguistic group, occupying large parts of Mali, Senegal, Mauritania, Gambia, Guinea, Guinea-Bissau, Sierra Leone, Liberia, Burkina Faso, Ivory Coast, Chad, and Niger. The Mandingoes are a branch of the Mandé ethnic group, which also comprises several other ethno-lingual communities such as Bozo, Bambara, Kpelle, and Ligbi. The language they speak is called Mandi'nka kango, and it belongs to the Niger-Congo family of languages. Sometimes, because it is the language of the Mandingo/Mandinka tribe, it is also casually referred to as the Mandingo/Mandinka language. While Mandi'nka kango is the main language of Gambia and spoken natively in other countries with Mandingo population, it is also an officially recognized minority language in Senegal. This focuses on the dominant place that the comm ...
Nigerian government should enter state of war with these cruel animals who kill in the of their bloody thirst god. The country have soldiers who were able to stop war and restored peace in Liberia, Sierra Leone and Ivory Coast. Why wouldn't the President be a man and use the country's absolute military mighty to savage the country from the beasts who turn their country men and women in grill meat just to inherit 72 virgins. The government should expel the so called amnesty international and win this war through brutal means. So sad to see people who left their families this morning to go to work tore into pieces limb by limb.
Teaching teachers was the main purpose for Whitney Slovick's recent trek to Liberia, a tiny country on the western coast of Africa. She returned March 29th with a raft of pictures and stories to tell about her experiences there. Whitney had designated herself the official photographer of the trip. Whitney Slovick is a Glen Ellyn, Illinois native. She is a Glenbard South graduate, and has a Masters Degree in Education from the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign. Since 2012, she has been leading an after-school program for a non-profit in Nashville, Tennessee. A friend of hers told her of the great need to educate and provide support for teachers in the West African nation, which is bordered to the west by Sierra Leone, to the east by Ivory Coast and Guinea to the north. The coast of Liberia is on the Atlantic Ocean. Slovick decided she would travel to Liberia for this adventure for her spring break. She set out on her journey with three others on March 15th, 2014. THE FRENCH AFRICAN CONNECTION : 'Same crime': Why is one Guilty whilst the other is Not Guilty? President Charles Taylor guilty of aiding and abetting war crimes and crimes against humanity for supporting rebels who carried out atrocities in Sierra Leone in return for "Blood Diamonds" France under the leadership of President Nicolas Sarkozy in 2010 Presidential elections in Ivory Coast, France sided with Alessanne Outtara. Libyan intelligence reports from 2009 and 2010 indicated that the French Intelligence Service D.G.S.E. had begun infiltrating, financing and arming a group of “rebels” in the northern region of Ivory Coast. That French backed guerrilla began attacking predominantly pro-Gbagbo villages, committing massacres, and that French backed “rebels” were attacking the Presidential Residence.
The 2nd Cold War emerges and the Arms race begins to find its market. The destabilization of un popular regimes in the 3rd world countries become more vulnerable to the events that's unfolding in the West. Let's us pray for peace. If you think you are have a stable democracy in your country, wait until your neighboring countries who are experiencing similar fighting, I bet it will spill over, no matter what you believe in. Sierra Leone, Guinea, Ivory Coast, Guinea Bissau etc... World leaders, particularly in Africa, should condemned this move. Don't sit by until things get worsened, then try to react. Be proactive now! That is my advice to those who have ears to listen and eyes to see far beyond and minds to figure out an early solution. Obama is been tested . Prove me wrong. There is a conspiracy here!
Ivory Coast will demand the United Nations to lift an ongoing ban on its diamond exports next month, as the country received a clean bill of health from the Kimberly Process, the body tasked with preventing the sale of precious gems from financing armed conflicts, in November last year. The embargo, imposed in 2005 during the West African nation's civil war, also aimed to stop the traffic of diamonds between neighbouring Liberia and war-torn Sierra Leone through Ivory Coast. Now that the war is over, however, the country’s government says diamonds are no longer a threat to stability. Fatimata Thes, the official in charge of the diamond sector at Ivory Coast's Mining Ministry, told Reuters had put a system in place to register diamond workers and track production. The authority said that since President Alassane Ouattara's government put in place a traceability system in May last year, collectives have stockpiled about 10,000 carats in preparation for the lifting of the embargo. Ivory Coast, the world's ...
OPINION Removing the Demons in our Subconscious Minds...Feeding it nutritiously By Oswald Hanciles “All that we are is the result of what we have thought. The mind is everything. What we think, we become” - Siddhartha Gautama Buddha About a week ago, at about 6:00 a.m., I was jogging up the steep hill to my residence off Hillcut Road in the West End of Freetown when an agitated elderly man walking down the hill speaking to a lady said: “.”Nar im make dem waiteman dem pass we.How dem bodi clean, nar so dem hart clean...But, black man, baa! How we bodi black, nar so we hart black...”. (Translation: ‘That is why whites [Caucasians] are superior to blacks (Negroid); their light-skinned bodies manifest their inner purity and integrity; but, blacks are as debased in their character as their dark skins.’). Exodus 23:13 - And in all things that I have said unto you be circumspect: and make no mention of the name of other gods, neither let it be heard out of thy mouth. Once you become enlightened to the truth, you can't continue to worship the Most High in ignorance by cleaving to that which is not Yah. John 4:24 - Yah is a Spirit: and they that worship him must worship him in spirit and in truth(law). Israel were a Hebrew speaking people, before they fled out of Jerusalem in 70CE running from Roman Persecution. They ran into Africa and arrived on the Ivory Coast of West Africa, such as Ghana and Nigeria and Sierra Leone. Having no desire to mingle with other nations Israel didn't go into the parts of Africa that Hamitic people lived such as Egypt, Libya, Ethiopia. according to scripture Israelites did not mix with gentiles and heathen nations. Israelites stayed in Africa for 1300 years until the Africans conspired with the Arabs and sold Israel to the Europeans such as Sir John Hawkins of The British Empire.

JANUARY 1999 12 January: RUF leader Corporal Foday Sankoh held talks with the Foreign Ministers of Ivory Coast and Togo on Tuesday after being flown to Conakry, Guinea. According to the United Nations Special Representative to Sierra Leone, Francis Okelo, who attended the talks, Sankoh said he wanted his freedom and official recognition for the RUF before agreeing to a cease-fire. Foreign Ministers Amara Essy of Ivory Coast and Joseph Kokou Koffigoh of Togo said Sankoh had expressed his "willingness for peace" and for a "political, not a military solution" to the Sierra Leone crisis. JANUARY 1999 10 January: Foreign Minister Amara Essy of Ivory Coast and his Togolese counterpart, Joseph Kokou Koffigoh, arrived in Guinea Sunday to confer with Guinean President Lansana Conte, on bringing about a cease-fire in the Sierra Leone conflict. Sam "Maskita" Bockarie said Sunday he would not leave his stronghold to meet regional mediators or for a face-to-face meeting with detained RUF leader Corporal Foday Sankoh. "Why should I leave my ground? ...I am not going to accept that. There is a trap," he said. Bockarie also asserted that the RUF was holding 200 Nigerian ECOMOG soldiers captured during the fighting. As we all prepare to lie safely and comfortably in our beds, we have no idea that yet another genocide is brewing on our continent. Children are being forcefully recruited as child soldiers, women have become sex slaves and men have become the objects of target practice. The pictures make my stomach churn, the reports make my blood boil. Why should another land so richly blessed be destroyed like this. And whilst the world looks on and takes an uninterested long look at the macabre movie playing out. And where is the African Union? Where are the Leaders of Africa? Have we all sold our conscience for the price of a peaceful sleep? Whatever happened to Osagyefo's rallying cry of every African's yoke being our collective yoke? Somalia, Rwanda, Burundi, Congo, Sierra Leone, Liberia, Ivory Coast, Sudan, Mali, Tunisia, Libya, Egypt and now we want the Central African Republic to also go down that abyss? Let us call on our Leaders to act across the continent. Let us raise our voices from the heights of Afadjato ...
VISIT OF KHULAFA TO NIGERIA Ahmadiyya Jama’at Nigeria has consistently been recipients of the visits of khulafa'ul- Masih. This, among others, is a fulfillment of the prophecy “I shall convey thy message to the ends of the Earth which Allah, the Exalted vouchsafed to the Promised Messiah. With Huzurs’ visits, yet another prophecy Kings shall seek blessings from thy garment” became fulfilled. Successors to the Promised Messiah have visited Nigeria four different times – 1970, 1980, 1988 and 2004. Accordingly, he visited Nigeria, Ghana, Liberia, The Gambia, Ivory Coast and Sierra Leone. Huzur came first to Nigeria, where he toured Lagos, Ibadan Ijebu Ode and Ilaro. I AM HAPPY to be chosen to share my experiences with you on the Liberian war, and to delve further into the impact of the war on journalists and the role played by the religious community. I find myself best suited to speak on this topic because, throughout the crisis, I lived and still continue to live in Liberia and have a first-hand experience as a journalist to be able to say how many of us were affected by the civil war. Like most of my other colleagues, I was directly affected and had to stay away from home and my family for weeks because of clashes between the warring factions in my residential area. Since the late 1980s, early 1990s and up to early 2000s, the sub-region witnessed political instabilities, specifically with the four Mano River Union (MRU) countries (Liberia, Sierra Leone, Guinea and Ivory Coast) being at the epicenter of these crisis. Since its formation by freed black slaves in the 1800s, Liberia had been a citadel of peace and stability in Africa. The nation cracked this enviable ...
World Cup Qualifying Wrap: top groups topped Group A of the CAF section of FIFA World Cup qualifying, but will have to wait to see if they can play in the final round. They secured a 2-1 success at home to South Africa on Sunday, however, their place in the last phase is under threat following an announcement from FIFA that they are face an investigation for allegedly fielding an ineligible player in a fixture with Botswana on June 9. Bernard Parker had put ahead in the 33rd minute, but Getaneh Kebede equalised just before half-time and Parker then scored past his own goalkeeper with 20 minutes remaining, as Ethiopia claimed the points in Addis Ababa. In Group B, Tunisia affirmed their position as group leaders with a 1-1 draw in Equatorial Guinea. Their position in the last round was already confirmed by second-placed Cape Verde loss to Sierra Leone on Saturday, and Oussama Darragi's 64th minute penalty cancelled out Juvenal's first-half spot-kick for the hosts. Ivory Coast sealed their progression from ...
Syria is the worst humanitarian disaster of our times. But, I have to make one point. We've intervened in conflicts and crisis in Israel, Jordan, Kuwait, Iraq, Pakistan, Afghanistan, Egypt, Libya, Tunisia, Somalia, Yemen, Gaza, and now Syria. But we didn't in Sudan, Rwanda, Ethiopia, Congo, Mali, Mauritania, Ivory Coast, Sierra Leone, Cambodia, Eritrea, or Burma. Why is a middle eastern life, or victim of tragedy, worth more than one from anywhere else? Why is one part of the world more important to us?
According to the Annual Save Our Children Mother's Index, the ten worst places to be a mother are all in Africa. The Index, which is in its 14th year, looks at multiple factors when comprising the list - including death in pregnancy and childbirth as well as hardships faced by mothers after they give birth. The bottom 10 are Ivory Coast, Chad, Nigeria, Gambia, Central African Republic Niger, Mali, Sierra Leone, Somalia and the Democratic Republic of the Congo.

Oh what bliss, to find myself in this simply beautiful capital city. Lilongwe, Malawi, you bring me memories of West Africa...Sierra Leone, Guinea, Liberia, Gambia, Senegal, Togo, Benin, Ivory Coast, I miss you. It's been a while since I saw a woman carrying a pot on her head! I want a taste of this! It's nice to see a man ride his one and only bike, and not tire of repairing it! Where did simplicity run to? I like this tallest building that is 9 stories high. People are so friendly, and none suspects none. The tellers at the bank greet you with a smile. No one looks at you weirdly when you greet them while in the elevator! And I have denied the offer to be driven to church tomorrow because I want to walk those two kilometers to get there myself, so I can be a "local" and try my Chichewa on the few I will meet. Malawi, you are so green! The corn is sprouting healthily everywhere and traffic jam is not in your vocabulary! The view from my hotel window tells me you are very fertile. The One gift I need ri . ...
AIDS is caused by the human immunodeficiency virus (HIV), which originated in non-human primates in Sub-Saharan Africa and was transferred to humans during the late 19th or early 20th century. Two types of HIV infect humans: HIV-1 and HIV-2. HIV-1 is more virulent, is more easily transmitted and is the cause of the vast majority of HIV infections globally.[1] The pandemic strain of HIV-1 is closely related to a virus found in the chimpanzees of the subspecies Pan troglodytes troglodytes, which lives in the forests of the Central African nations of Cameroon, Equatorial Guinea, Gabon, Republic of Congo (or Congo-Brazzaville), and Central African Republic. HIV-2 is less transmittable and is largely confined to West Africa, along with its closest relative, a virus of the sooty mangabey (Cercocebus atys atys), an Old World monkey inhabiting southern Senegal, Guinea-Bissau, Guinea, Sierra Leone, Liberia, and western Ivory Coast.[1][2]
This is another major achievement by the Government of President Ernest Bai Koroma. Sierra Leone joins other West African countries Senegal, The Gambia, Ghana, Ivory Coast and Liberia who switched on their system last month. With today’s launching program, people in Sierra Leone can now subscribe with the companies licensed to operate in the country– Sierratel, Airtel, Africell, Commium, Afcom, limeline, Iptel, Nextgen, Teltak and Salcab. Internet and mobile phone services are now expected to be relatively cheaper.
KRU PEOPLE: AFRICA`S SAILOR TRIBE THAT REFUSED TO BE CAPTURED INTO SLAVERY The Kru people inhabit a homeland in coastal southeastern Liberia and neighboring Cote d`Ivoire (Ivory Coast). Some Kru have also migrated to the neighboring Sierra Leone to work as fishermen and dockworkers. The Kru along with the Grebo resisted Maryland settlers' efforts to control their trade. They were also infamous amongst early European slave raiders as being especially averse to capture. Their reputation was such that their value as slaves was less than that of other African peoples, because they would so frequently attempt to escape or to take their own lives upon being captured. Linguists use the name Kru to refer to a linguistic group within the larger larger Niger-Congo language family. Peoples speaking language in this Kru group include Bete, Dida, Grebo, Wobe and the Kru people themselves. The Kru languages belong to the Niger–Congo language family and are spoken by the Kru people from the southeast of Liberia to the ...

Africa's disposition to juxtapose elections to violence is sickening. Sierra Leone holds elections and the main chorus is "Peace"; Ghana holds election and everyone says: "Peace". What is wrong with us? It stands as if an election without violence or drama in Africa is not an election. In the case of Sierra Leone, more than a week passed before the losing party accepted defeat. The result of the elections in Ivory Coast was hundreds of people dying and a 3-month stand-off that has left a divided country and a former president languishing in an ICC jail. In 2008 in Ghana, we had near chaos when both (then ruling) NPP and the (then opposition) NDC claimed to have won the election. It took a mediated agreement to take the election into a run-off. Fast forward 2012 and we are have perfect re-play of the events from 2008; burning ballot boxes, party officials asking their members to converge on the offices of the Electoral Commission. Must violence be the signature of African elections? Must Politicians disres ...
Leone Stars home-based head coach has said that he’s satisfied with his team’s preparation for their Orange African Nations Championship (CHAN) match against Guinea despite there is no league taking place at the moment in Sierra Leone. The match is one of several CHAN Preliminary round first leg qualifying matches slated for next weekend in some parts of the continent and it’s scheduled for the 28th September Stadium in Conakry on December 2. The CHAN is restricted to only locally based players to expose them at the international scene as senior national 'A' teams in the continent most times use overseas based players in International Competitions. The CHAN was introduced by Africa’s football governing body, CAF in 2009. South Africa are hosting the third edition in 2014 and the two previous editions were hosted by Ivory Coast in 2009 and Sudan in 2011. Coach Keister, the former England based Sierra Leonean international said: “The league not playing is not an issue for me because we started tra ...
Few seem to joke any more. Indeed, the last time anyone laughed out there was over the memorable head-line “BANANA CHARGED WITH SODOMY” (relating to the Reverend Canaan Banana and his alleged proclivities). Zimbabwe was just the latest African state to squander its potential, to swap civil society for civil strife and pile high its corpses. Then the wrecking virus moves on and a fresh spasm of violence erupts elsewhere. Congo, Ivory Coast, Sudan, Rwanda, Sierra Leone, even Kenya. Take your pick, for it is the essence of Africa, the recurring A-Z of horror. Therefore, as surely as Nelson Mandela took those steps from captivity to freedom, his own country will doubtless shuffle into chaos and ruin. Mark my words. One day it will be the turn of South Africa to revert to type, its farms that lie wasted and its towns that are battle zones, its dreams and expectations that lie rotting on the veld. That is the way of things. Africa rarely surprises, it simply continues to appall. When interviewed on BBC Radi ...
Nigeria, Congo, Sierra Leone. These are the countries bad to di bone, Ghana, Cameroon, Ivory Coast, many to name we a fresh of the boat. RT
Cocoa traders who sell in Ghana will now earn 25 percent more than their Ivorian counterparts. A Reuters article suggests that this will lead to cocoa flight in neighboring Ivory Coast who has had to fix its prices after a decade of liberalization to boost its local cocoa industry.
How to Recognize a Country Code 234 Scam Country code 234 is the International Country code for the African country of Nigeria. If you have recently received an email that includes a phone number with the country code 234, it is most likely a scam. The very best thing to do is delete the email. The email may seem professional or alluring. However, it is a scam, and you should not fall prey to it. These email scams are growing in popularity. However, they are not new. Scams like these have been in existence since the 1920s, and they have always changed to embrace new forms of technology like email. Basically, a scam artist in Nigeria, the Ivory Coast, or Sierra Leone sends a mass email to a large mailing list. In the body of the email, they beg the recipient for help. They may claim to be a government official, a member of a royal family, or an important bank employee. They say that they are stuck in an embarrassing financial or legal problem. Then, they say that if you can help them out of the problem tha ...

Many people really don't know how civilized the people of Liberia are. We were civilized long before the Eurppeans and even before the free American slaves landed on our coast. Read this piece of history of our early textiles industry: The Country cloth Perhaps the simplest woven cloth in West Africa is country cloth. It made in the interior of Liberia (Lofa County) and in a arc around it which included Ivory Coast, Burkina Faso, Guinea, Sierra Leone and Mali. The cotton and skills to weave it probably came into the forest zone with people migrating from the Sahel because of other population pressures, war and famine. Traditionally Liberian country cloth was handspun, hand dyed and hand woven cotton, done in about four inch wide strips on a simple foot treadle loom. A standard bolt is about 36 yards long. The weaving pieces shown to the left are carved heddle pulleys, heddles, batten and reeds, boat and spinning spindles. Often the cloth was plain white, but natural dyes like indigo and kola were used to ...
The lesser spot-nosed monkey, lesser spot-nosed guenon, lesser white-nosed guenon, or lesser white-nosed monkey (Cercopithecus petaurista) is a species of primate in the Cercopithecidae family. It is found in Benin, Ivory Coast, Ghana, Guinea, Liberia, Sierra Leone, Togo, possibly Gambia, possibly Guinea-Bissau, and possibly Senegal.[
John Hawkins Jesus of Lubeck John Hawkins of Plymouth is widely acknowledged to be the pioneer of the English slave trade, because he was the first to run the Triangular trade, making a profit at every stop. In 1564, Queen Elizabeth I partnered with him by renting him the huge old 700-tonne ship Jesus of Lubeck, and he set forth on his second longer and more extensive voyage along with three small ships. Hawkins sailed to Borburata, privateering along the way. By the time he reached Borburata, he had captured around 400 Africans. After Borburata, Hawkins sailed to Rio de la Hacha. The Spanish officials tried to prevent Hawkins from selling the slaves by imposing taxes. Captain Hawkins refused the taxes and threatened to burn the towns. After selling his slaves, Captain Hawkins sailed to a French colony in Florida for a respite. Captain Hawkins returned to England in September 1566, his expedition a total success as his financiers made a 60% profit. Off the coast of Africa, near Sierra Leone, Hawkins captu ...
But there are no Blood Diamonds in Nigeria LOL that’s Sierra Leone and the Ivory Coast to name a few
Dear friends, My name is Christine Selemani I am the SOTU ambassador* from Malawi. I urge you to act with me. Africa is now one of the regions the most affected by coups and electoral irregularities. This is unacceptable especially because since January 30, 2007, during the 8th Ordinary Session of the Assembly of the African Union, « the African Charter on Democracy, Elections and Governance » was adopted. The charter aims resolutely and unambiguously at creating a culture of political change based on regular elections, free, fair and transparent, driven by competent, independent and impartial national electoral bodies. Up to date, only 15 out of 54 African states have ratified the charter, even though ratifying it will avoid the catastrophic consequences of constitutional provision failure. Also, we believe that only a focused and solid call to action can prevent the tragedies in the Ivory Coast, Mali, Kenya, Rwanda, Somalia, Liberia, Sierra Leone, and Congo from re-occurring in Africa. Congratulations to our good SA locked neighbours in the mountain Kingdom of Lesotho. They have just concluded peaceful elections and there is no party disputing the results. A rare occasion on the African Continent indeed! (remember who ignite artificial revolutions and cosmetic wars for commercial ends in the motherland). There was also a very loud silence and absence of the empire up north and west in affairs of Basotho elections. But this is no surprise, let us look at the reasons thereof: 1. Lesotho, relatively poor and heavily depended on South Africa, is of no interest to the empire. 2. They have neither precious mineral resources, enough land nor oil, and this does not attract the imperialist attention nearly half as does DRC, Sudan, Libya, Ivory Coast, Sierra Leone, Liberia, Zimbabwe, Botswa, Angola etc. 3. In Lesotho, there is no superior race that needs the protection of the empire up north or west (the reason for the absence of the superior race in Lesotho is that there is nothing for them to c ...
Sierra Leone, Liberia and Ivory Coast need funding to address the humanitarian crisis of violence against women, report claims
can't speak on Ivory Coast but i def know the meaning of Sierra Leone. I'm from there.
The white named regions after the resources they would extract. Gold from Sierra Leone (gold coast) and ivory from the Ivory Coast.
The issue of not only the oil being a curse, but the entire resources which are normally blessings, is a collective concern, again not to Liberians but the sub-region. We saw in the 80s and 90s when our timbers proceeds became a fuel to ignite wars in Liberia, Sierra Leone, Guinea and lastly Ivory Coast. And using it wisely should not be left with administrations but with regional bodies like ECOWAS, MRU etc.
I'm going to be rich! This just came into my email: "Dearest Friend, Good day, may the blessings of God be upon you and grant you the wisdom and sympathy to understand my situation and how much I need your help. After going through your profile , l was convinced that you are reputable and a trust worthy person who can help me. I am contacting you with the hope that you will be of great assistance to me. My name is Richard Gama, I am 21 years old boy from Sierra Leone. My father and I escaped from our country at the heat of the civil war after loosing my mother and two of my senior brothers in the war. As a result of the political instability in my country even after the war, my father established his cocoa and coffee export business here in Abidjan Cote d'Ivoire ( Ivory Coast). He went to Bouake, a northern city to negociate for the purchase of a cocoa plantation when he was shot and killed by the rebel troupes fighting to take over the government of the former President Laurent Gbagbo . The death of my ...
West Africa supplied the majority of the slaves that went to work in the Caribbean and America. In the 18th century a long stretch of West African shoreline was called the Gold coast because of the precious metal that was found there. Other areas were given names to reflect the raw materials and resources they had. Next to the Gold coast there was the Grain Coast and next to that the Ivory Coast. This is still the name of a country today. The strip of land in West Africa that used to be called the Gold coast and the Grain Coast is the location for modern African countries such as Ghana, Togo and Benin. Other countries that supplied slaves were Senegal, Guinea, Sierra Leone, Liberia, Nigeria and Angola. These and most countries in modern Africa had their borders created during slavery and colonization. New territories were born as a result of the desire for European nations to build an overseas empire. Traditionally these were tribal people – they didn’t have, didn’t need to have, defined country bou ...
South Africa were the biggest African risers in the Fifa rankings this month, edging up four places to 67th spot. Elsewhere, Sierra Leone rose two places to 61st spot, to lie above Nigeria (63) for the first time in their history. Ivory Coast remain top in Africa at 15th, with Ghana second highest (22nd). DR Congo were the biggest fallers, dropping five places to 124th position. The 1974 African champions are now rated below the likes of Benin, Central African Republic and Sao Tome e Principe. Similarly, Nigeria - who have competed at four World Cups and won two Africa Cup of Nations tournaments - have now dropped below Sierra Leone in the rankings. Sierra Leone, whose population of six million is dwarfed by Nigeria's total in excess of 160m, have never travelled to a World Cup and have only ever competed at two Nations Cups - in 1994 and 1996. The top seven in the African rankings were unchanged, with Tunisia moving up to eight as Egypt dropped down the rankings. World and European champions Spain still ...
You know I think countries with flag that are just three colored bars, aren't really trying,. sorry if you’re from Armenia, Belgium, Bolivia, Bulgaria, Chad, Colombia, Congo, Republic of, Cote d'Ivoire, Estonia, France, French Guiana, Gabon, Germany, Guinea, Holland, Hungary, Ireland, Italy, Ivory Coast (Cote d'Ivoire), Lithuania, Luxembourg, Mali, Netherlands, Republic of Ireland, Romania, Russia, Sierra Leone, The Gambia, Yemen, or Yugoslavia. And I didn’t even include all the ones that are three colored bars with some sorta symbol in the middle…. I’m looking at you Mexico…..
Let's all stand up on our feet and fight against politics of columny, vituperation and vindictiveness that has characterised our body politics. Have we not learnt from the experiences of neibouring cote d' voire, siera Leone, Liberia and other African countries? Fellow ghanaians, be wise for the so called desperate politicians has diplomatic passport with which they can fly abroad with their families, leaving u and me to wallow in destitute and tattered penury. Posterity will not forgive u and i if this country is plunged into chaos and termoil before, during and after elections 2012. The hand of God was on Liberia, Sierra Leone, Rwanda, Burundi, Ivory Coast, yet most of them could not live to see the light of day. Prayer must go alongside with character.
Most likely the next former leader to face justice will be former Ivory Coast President Laurent Gbagbo, Who is jailed in the Hague on charges of attacking political opponents as he attempted to cling to power following elections last year. Prosecuting Taylor has proved how hard it is to bring leaders to justice.. He fled into exile in Nigeria after being indicated in 2003 and was only arrested three years later.. And while the Sierra Leone court is based in that country's capital, Freetown, Taylor's trial was staged in the Netherlands out of fears it could destabilize the region... The global implications meant little to survivors of the war in Sierra Leone who celebrated Taylor's conviction.
PEACE & JUSTICE! Finally some peace and justice for the people of Liberia, Sierra Leone, and the Ivory Coast. Warlord, murderer, rapist, and terrorist Charles Taylor was found guilty of majority of the crimes against humanity in West Africa. Hopefully peace will prevail in our mother land.
Next time i get a funny msg from a pretty girl in a refugee camp in Senegal I'm gonna screm very loud. I do empathise with victims of atrocities in Rwanda, Sierra Leone and Ivory Coast.. yes i do, but i'm a Zimbabwean (which translates to 'not so dumb') of above average intelligence.. and more than capable of holding my own with ladies (should i need one) so please do me a favor.. if you feel like handin me a load of cash.. do it the Osoufia (of Osuofia in London fame), just load it onto a truck and bring it to me, i could do with a couple of millions, but i ain't parting with a cent as processing fees.. now before then, bugger off and stop pesterring me
