These 28 Senators are the strength of the Senate, and sad to say, they are all Democrats. Yesterday and last night they conducted a continuous series of speeches about our need to address the threat posed by climate change. They deserve our praise. As for the Republicans, they deserve our censure. Failure to have a plan regarding climate change is as irresponsible as going into battle without a plan. The full list of participating senators includes: Harry Reid of Nevada, *** Durbin of Illinois, Charles Schumer of New York, Patty Murray of Washington, Brian Schatz of Hawaii, Sheldon Whitehouse of Rhode Island, Barbara Boxer of California, Dianne Feinstein of California, Ron Wyden of Oregon, Bill Nelson of Florida, Maria Cantwell of Washington, Benjamin Cardin of Maryland, Bernie Sanders of Vermont, Amy Klobuchar of Minnesota, Mark Udall of Colorado, Tom Udall of New Mexico, Jeanne Shaheen of New Hampshire, Jeff Merkley of Oregon, Kirsten Gillibrand of New York, Al Franken of Minnesota, Richard Blumentha .. ...
Senate Democrats to Pull Climate Change All-Nighter About 30 Senate Democrats, including all four members of the Democratic leadership, plan to take to the Senate floor for an all-night “talk-a-thon” on climate change, starting at 7 p.m. Monday. Led by Democratic Sens. Brian Schatz and Barbara Boxer of California, the event is an effort to raise awareness of the issue and bolster support for the White House’s push to reduce greenhouse gas emissions by regulating power plants, among other measures. The president’s climate policies have come under harsh criticism from Republicans, who have accused the White House of “waging a war on coal.” The event is not a formal filibuster, since Democrats are not discussing any specific legislation, but they plan to hold the floor from the completion of voting on Monday until regular Senate business resumes on Tuesday morning at 9, according to a statement from Sen. Schatz’s office. One member of the task force, Sen. Sheldon Whitehouse (D.-R.I.) has given ...
