The Moreland Commission seems likely to play a big recurring role in the Sheldon Silver trial--was a big part of questioning today.
So far in Sheldon Silver's trial, the Moreland Commission to Investigate Public Corruption has come up two out of two days.
“A deal was cut to close Moreland Commission to the great relief of Sheldon Silver,” Bharara said. (It doesn't get much clearer than that.)
The charges against Assembly Speaker Sheldon Silver are staggering. U.S. Attorney Preet Bharara says Silver amassed a $4 million personal fortune by monetizing his office, and did so quietly and cleverly. The feds have seized $3.8 million from eight Silver bank accounts in six different banks. Bharara says the Moreland Commission was investigating but was shut down before it came out. He says no one is above the law, and stay tuned.
