DUBAI, Jan 25 (Reuters) - The president of the United Arab Emirates has undergone surgery after a stroke and is in a stable condition, state news agency WAM reported on Saturday. It quoted the presidential affairs ministry as saying Sheikh Khalifa bin Zayed al-Nahayn suffered a stroke early on Friday which "required doctors to perform surgery", adding his condition has since stabilised. It gave no further details. Born in 1948, Sheikh Khalifa is known as a pro-Western moderniser whose low-key approach helped steer the Gulf Arab state through a tense era in regional politics. He came to power after the death of his father, Sheikh Zayed bin Sultan al-Nahayan, in 2004. Analysts say the popular leader has helped maintain the ruling family's ties with important clans and leaders of the other emirates, helping the UAE manage the fall-out from Dubai's debt crisis in 2009, and has tried to balance ties with countries such as Iran, Saudi Arabia and the United States. He is the eldest of Sheikh Zayed's 19 sons. (Re ...
The Yas Marina Circuit is located on Yas Island, a 2,550 hectare island on the east coast of Abu Dhabi. The circuit is unique on the Formula 1 calendar due to it being the only ‘dusk’ race of the season with the race starting in daylight and finishing under the powerful lights that replicate daylight throughout the lap, as seen in Singapore. Location – Yas Marina, Abu Dhabi, UAE The United Arab Emirates is made up of seven ‘Emirates’ and is located in the oil-rich and strategic Persian Gulf region and adjoins the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia and the Sultanate of Oman. Abu Dhabi is the capital of the UAE and equates to 87% of the UAE and embraces approx. 200 islands off its 700km coastline, which includes Yas Island, where the circuit is located. "Dhabi" is the Arabic name of a particular species of native Arabian gazelle that was once common in the region. Abu Dhabi means the place rich in "Dhabi". In 1966 the British assisted with the ascension of Sheikh Zayed bin Sultan Al Nahyan to the throne, whi ...
EX PRESIDENT FOR SALE by: Alan Dershowitz Jimmy Carter is making more money selling integrity than peanuts. I have known Jimmy Carter for more than 30 years. Recent disclosures of Carter's extensive financial connections to Arab oil money, particularly from Saudi Arabia , had deeply shaken my belief in his integrity. When I was first told that he received a monetary reward in the name of Sheikh Zayed bin Sultan Al Nahayan, and kept the money, even after Harvard returned money from the same source because of its anti-Semitic history, I simply did not believe it.How could a man of such apparent integrity enrich himself with dirty money from so dirty a source? In reading Carter's statements, I was reminded of the bad old Harvard of the 1930s, which continued to honor Nazi academics after the anti-Semitic policies of Hitler's government became clear. Harvard of the 1930s. I sadly concluded that Jimmy Carter of the 21st century has become complicit in evil. The extent of Carter's financial support from, and ev ...
CLB-15 Families and Friends, Your dedicated Marines and Sailors across all three ships (RUSHMORE, PELELIU, AND GREEN BAY) and a couple of locations ashore continue to do extremely well supporting and defending America’s interests at the forward edge of the Empire. With the conclusion of Exercise RED REEF in Saudi Arabia (as I had discussed in last month’s note), the 15th Marine Expeditionary Unit team of professionals has completed the last in her series of Theater Security Cooperation training events with foreign militaries. Although our official training exercise period with foreign militaries has concluded, we shall remain in the Middle East region for the time being to be at the ready to support any contingency or crisis should we be called upon to do so. We have, however, been keeping ourselves quite busy. Early in February, many of our personnel on the USS PELELIU went ashore in Djibouti to conduct the second in a series of MEU only sustainment training exercises. This was a good opportunity ...
