Sheikh Zayed bin Sultan Al Nahyan ‎, (1918 – 2 November 2004), the principal driving force behind the formation of the United Arab Emirates (UAE), was the ruler of Abu Dhabi and first president of the UAE, a post which he held for over 30 years (1971–2004). The Yas Marina Circuit is located on Yas Island, a 2,550 hectare island on the east coast of Abu Dhabi. The circuit is unique on the Formula 1 calendar due to it being the only ‘dusk’ race of the season with the race starting in daylight and finishing under the powerful lights that replicate daylight throughout the lap, as seen in Singapore. World's largest floral garden opens in Dubai. The Dubai Miracle Garden with a total area of over 70,000 square meters opened in Dubai. According to local reports, the garden, where footpaths exceed four kilometers, has become the largest floral park in the world. The Miracle Garden owns the collection of more than 45 million flowers of different species, many of which were brought to the Persian Gulf for the first time. The park has an unusual exhibit: a portrait of the founder of the UAE, Sheikh Zayed bin Sultan Al Nahyan. The portrait is surrounded by seven huge hearts that symbolize seven emirates. The exposition is made of live flowers. In addition, the Miracle Garden has a ten-meter flower pyramid of 144 square meters and a wall of flowers that surrounds the park. Its length is 800 meters, and the height is 3 meters.
Balabagan grew up a Muslim, southern Philippines, Sultan Kudarat, Maguindanao. She was the fourth of a family of fourteen children; half died in childhood. She become a domestic worker, lying about her age, and obtained a post in the town of Al Ain in the UAE. July 19, 1994, for self defense, she killed her employer, Almas Mohammed al-Baloushi. On June 26, 1995, UAE court ruled she was guilty of manslaughter as well a victim of rape. However, the prosecution appealed. September 6, 1995, a second Islamic court convicted her of premeditated murder, sentencing her to death by firing squad. There was an international outcry and a defense campaign in several countries, as her case was seen as symbolising the ill-treatment of domestic servants in the Persian Gulf countries, as just a few months earlier there had been similar case of Flor Contemplación, a Filipina domestic servant who was hanged in Singapore.
