So awesome to meet Shani Davis at the Deloitte USOC Roadshow at Carnegie Mellon University
On this date in history in 2001, Shani Davis became the first African American to qualify for the U.S. Olympic speed skating team. Davis, a former roller skater from Chicago, beat his close friend and world cup champion Apolo Ohno in the 1,000 meter short-track final held in Kearns, Utah, qualifying for the 2002 Salt Lake Games. Upon arriving in Salt Lake City for the 2002 Winter Olympics, after opening day ceremonies, Davis decided to leave the Games early to compete in the 2002 Junior Country March and Junior World Championships held in Italy, where he won the 1500 m at both competitions. Davis became the only U.S. skater to ever make both short track and long track junior world teams three years in a row. However, at the 2006 Winter Olympics in Turin, Italy, Davis became the first black athlete to win a gold medal in an individual sport at the Olympic Winter Games, winning the speedskating 1000 meter event. He also won a silver medal in the 1500 meter event. At the 2010 Winter Olympics in Vancouver, C ...

Amidst so many disappointments in Sochi I'm not sure which was the biggest: men's hockey team, women's hockey team, men's speed skating team, Shaun White, Bode Miller, Shani Davis, etc.
First Shaun White, then Shani Davis, followed by the US Womens Maple Leaf like collapse with 2 mins left in the final, and now US Hockey ugh
After these 2 hockey losses to Canada, Shaun White failing, and Shani Davis not medaling, the Olympics are a disappointment for me.
And on another note, me, Shani Davis and Jonathan Kuck go against Canada tomorrow in the Team Pursuit!! We race around 7:30 AM Chicago time. Last event here we go!
And the U.S. women's hockey team blows it AGAIN...but seriously, did ANYONE on our Olympic team train for these games..like at all? Shaun White, choke..Shani Davis, choke, figure skaters, bobsledders, choke, choke, choke. Oh well, guess we'll have to wait for Rio to crush the world in the sports that matter lol smh
It's been a Winter Olympics of new records - we've seen the first ever British Olympic medal on snow, legends like Shaun White in the half-pipe and Shani Davis in the speed-skating have been usurped by younger contenders and we've witnessed the first Olympic shared gold in Alpine skiing. The network behind the Games has also delivered its share of records: the first time IPTV has been used to transmit live TV feeds to the Olympic family over the games network, the first time wireless network traffic has outnumbered wired traffic at a Winter Games and the first fabric-connected network to be deployed at an Olympic event. While all this is very exciting, you may be wondering how Sochi 2014 relates to the businesses which make up the vast majority of Avaya's customers. In reality there are many parallels between the average business network and that of these Olympic Winter Games. Regardless of the scale and profile of the project, organisations of all sizes face many of the same challenges and therefore shou ...
Boy Team USA has had some overhyped fails this time around...Shaun White, Shani Davis, and Lindsey Jacobellis. Good thing we've had some surprises or this could have been a super disappointment.

American speedskater Shani Davis was unable to medal in the men's 1500 meters on Saturday, finishing in 11th place. Teammate Brian Hansen also finished out of the medals in 7th place. The gold went to Poland's Zbigniew Brodka. Koen Verweij of the Netherlands took silver and Denny Morrison of Canada the bronze.
speedskating: WR holder Shani Davis 11th, Brian Hansen 7th. No US medal again. Davis had lots to say after. Stay tuned.
Olympics update: Shani Davis, Brian Hansen race in speedskating; USA, Russia face off in men's hockey
Brian Hansen currently in 4th. Bart Swings in 5th. Shani Davis up next!
Ok nice showing by USA Brian Hansen, in 4th place. Shani Davis up NOW. THE SUSPENSE
Belgium's Bart Swings just finished 2nd place in the 1500m. USA's Brian Hansen, Shani Davis, and Joey Mantia still to come!
The Olympics grind on. There are flashes of genuine excitement; but the feeling I’m watching people have peak moments in their lives while huddled on a couch in a darkened room fed intravenously with the repetitive and soul numbing commercials is turning the experience into a marathon of endurance in which spikes of pure pleasure are difficult to come by. The USA seems long in the tooth at these games - heroes from four years ago have become also-runs and dropped down the standings: Shaun White, Shani Davis, Bode Miller, Julia Mancuso – Bob Costas has pink eye, the Under Armour speed skating suits don’t work, the snow is melting in the mountains and even the terrorists haven’t shown up. In order not to see results in contests that have been decided in a time zone nine hours earlier than eastern America I avert my head from the rest of the worlds news. If the NYTimes must post the results on the front page then I will cancel my subscription. Rival television channels take impish delight in pricking ...
For all the American fans, still a big day, Shani Davis and Brian Hansen up in the 1500m at 9 a.m. ET
It’s hard to imagine how the Sochi Games could be going worse for Under Armour. After a pair of disastrous Olympic results involving Shani Davis and Heather Richardson, a suspect has emerged: the high-tech Under Armour racing suits the team adopted for these Olympics.

Shani Davis and Heather Richardson gave it their best go at this venue. We're proud of you!
Saw this headline on the morning news: Shani Davis joins Shaun White and Bode Miller as American disappointments in Sochi. Good grief!! These men made it to the Olympics. They represented their country with style and smiled in the face of defeat. If there is an Olympian who I'd like my kids to look up to, it would be Shaun White. Not because he's won medals but because he knows how to lose with grace. My mom likes to say, "The sun don't shine on the same dog's *** every day." Wish American media would shove their negativity up theirs.
Shani Davis can not get it done. Fails to medal in the men's 1000m final.
Shani Davis and Shaun White were both trying to get a 3rd gold medal in their events and neither medaled at all. Unbelievable.

pick up your game. So many fav. going down. Shaun White, Bode Miller, Julia Mancuso and Shani Davis. Several missed Gold medals.
American favorites -- Bode Miller, Shani Davis, Shaun White, Julia Mancuso, Kelly Clark -- are having rough sledding in Sochi, as they fall short of their medals goals. But room at the top is being made for new faces -- like Kaitlyn Farrington and her surprise gold in the women's halfpipe yesterday. She did a great job of navigating the difficulties of the controversial pipe.
U.S. Speed Skater Shani Davis Now Faces an Uphill Battle to Win an Olympic Medal in Sochi via
Like Shaun White before him, Shani Davis had something major on the line, but he was unable to make history.
I've found several American athletes to be hard to root for this year (Bode Miller, Shani Davis, Shaun White to name a few)
Olympics-Mixed start for U.S. after favourites flop (Reuters) By Julian Linden SOCHI, Russia, Feb 13 (Reuters) – With more than a third of the medals on offer at the Sochi Olympics already handed out, the United States is in a familiar position. A team that was deemed to be one of the best America had ever sent to the Winter Olympics is tied for second place for gold medals with four and equal second for overall medals, with 12. Lindsey Vonn never even made it to Sochi, withdrawing from the downhill because of a knee injury, robbing the alpine skiers of their biggest drawcard. Sarah Hendrickson, the world champion in women’s skijumping, came 21st, while Shani Davis – who was chasing a third successive gold medal in the men’s 1,000 metres speedskating – limped home in eighth place. I liked a video from Shani Davis fails to win third straight gold
BHM are five African-American athletes to keep an eye on during the 2014 Winter Olympics at Sochi in Krasnodar Krai, Russia. Speed skater Shani Davis, along with women’s bobsled members Lolo Jones, Lauryn Williams, Aja Evans and Jasmine Fenlator, are each in position to help make American history in the Winter Olympics. Davis, 31, already made history by becoming the first Black male athlete to win a Winter Games Olympic individual sport medal when he won gold in the 1000-meter speed skating event at the 2006 Olympics at Turin. He won gold in the same event at the 2010 Winter Games at Vancouver, and could become the first American to ever win three straight Winter Games Olympic gold medals if he wins the 1000-meter again in Sochi.---and he did!!!

Finally got saturated with the Winter Olympics. Just seeing highlights now. A recurring theme for an oldie like me is the failure of the Three peat oldie stars like Shani Davis, Shaun White and the pulling out of Plushenko due to injury. I guess all good things must come to an end. Sweet sorrow. Getting too sentimental. :)
How do arguably the 2 best American Winter Olympians of our time, Shaun White and Chicago's own Shani Davis not get a medal?? Shani was the reason why I enjoy watching speed skating in the Olympics. Well, at least we got a US hockey team with J Quick and Patrick Kane that likes to whoop that behind!
Seeking gold and a Winter Olympics record, Shani Davis, stunningly, came up empty in his specialty event. Davis’ shot at Olympic history ended just 2 1/2 laps into his 1,000-meter race, when he was so far behind it was clear he could not catch the leaders Wednesday at Adler Arena. Stefan Goothuis w...

OK, so football season is over and I went into hibernation. Like Phil, the groundhog, I came out briefly but I’m going back to sleep. While I was up, however, I couldn’t help but notice two seemingly disparate events. (Wait for it!) WAVY TV 10 has been in “Storm Mode” for what seems like two weeks. Luckily, in my retired leisure I don’t have to worry about going to work with so many *** on the roads. But it doesn’t help when media pushes the panic button five days before the storm even arrives, no matter how big it is. How many times do I need to see a reporter standing in the snow, telling me that it’s snowing? The second thing is that the Winter Olympics are going on in Sochi, Russia for two weeks. Too bad Sochi doesn’t have our snow! (See? I told you!) What *** in the IOC thought that holding the Winter Olympics at a quaint Russian summer beach resort on the Black Sea was a good idea? Can you say $? But payback is *** and despite NBC’s efforts to gloss over and hype up, I s ...

Sorry about the gap in standings, everyone. Two nights ago I had a really intense PCP (angel dust) experience and last night I was playing FIFA '14 Soccer with three of my co-workers. Did I lose a game all night? Of course not. Anyway, these standings are complete through yesterday's events. As you know, I watch recorded material later in the evening, so the results from today will be posted late tonight or tomorrow morning. Here we go. Lot's of perfect 9's yesterday in Halfpipe, and almost all people got a zero in the Men's 1000 Meter Speed Skating because Shani Davis, Denis Kuzin, Brian Hansen, and Mo Tae Bum all decided to dog it. Prior to landing i re- read my USA today and was amazed to read the story of what the USA today called one of Americas greatest Olympians.. Yet no one pays much attention too. He is Shani Davis who is at Sochi break barriers..! I never knew much of this amazing Olympian, today.. I do. Thank you Shani Davis for showing brown skin boys and girls, to follow their hearts. I was pulling hard for Shani Davis last night... but I guess the flying Dutchmen have to get a turn at gold too...
As of yesterday’s Olympic competition, Norway leads the medal count with 12 medals with Canada and the Netherlands tied with 10 medals. The United States follows those 3 with 9 medals. Germany has 8 medals, but leads with 6 of them being gold. It wasn’t a very good day for the American athletes yesterday, except for this duo. Kaitlyn Farrington of the U.S. captured gold in the women's Olympic snowboarding halfpipe final Wednesday, edging defending champion Torah Bright and American teammate Kelly Clark for the title. Farrington posted a score of 91.75 during her second run, just good enough to beat Bright's 91.50. Clark, who smacked the wall during her first run in the finals, recovered to earn bronze and win her third Olympic medal. Farrington, who lives in Salt Lake City, Utah, had spent most of the run-up to the games playing second-fiddle to Clark, the 2002 Olympic champion. The 24-year old needed to navigate the semifinals to reach the medal round but responded brilliantly. The victory gave ...

Had a job interview today for a position as a caregiver, finished an online test for my coding class, watched some Olympics (not a good night for US downhill skier Mancuso or Shani Davis in the 1K meter speed skating event )o: ) and some Burn Notice. It's tired and I'm late. Good night!
Gold for Dutch skater Stefan Groothuis, bronze for Michiel Mulder on 1,000 meters. Where have you gone, Shani Davis? h…
Dismal showing for the USA this time around. No Gold Medals for Shaun White, Shani Davis, Julia Mancuso or Bode Miller...
We had some upsets in Sochi.. Shaun White, Shani Davis, and now an injury to Arielle Gold.. Not good.I have to check what is happening with women's hockey? Is Canada up?
Shani Davis doesn't make history or win an Olympic medal for the U.S. speedskaters
Shani Davis finishing 8th is like the Miami Heat missing the playoffs. Unthinkable.
I dunno why I'm rewatching the men's 1000m speed skating. Shani Davis... Y u let me down? I still luv u, doh
are we the only one awake watching Sochi. Lets go Shani Davis!
Wow. Shani Davis. Just really screwed the pooch on his 1000m. That is nuts.
If Shani Davis is your "black friend," then I suggest you find someone a little more street hardened.
I feel like shani davis might be the only black guy at the Winter Olympics
Welp. Time to seen Shani Davis come up short.
Fun fact: Shani Davis went to my elementary school (Jordan Community School).
My brother just said I looked like I had the life sucked out of me after I watched Shani Davis in 1000m.
Nine medals isn't bad, but is it too early to say that Team USA is stinking it up in Sochi?
Tough to write about US Speedskating because I have so many friends who competed (emphasis on competed) at the Olympic Oval and worked there ( emphasis on worked). I feel bad for Shani Davis and the countless other skaters who still work their butts off for that shill of an organization -- yet have fallen on such hard times in Sochi. It was probably only a matter of time but it still *** to see it happen.
For American speedskater Shani Davis to feel famous—like stopped-in-the-street famous—he has to go more...

Gold for the US in women's half pipe as Kaitlyn Farrington wins an extremely tight event over Australia's Torah Bright with American Kelly Clark taking the bronze. On the other hand, Shani Davis went into the 1000m spedskating event looking for his third straight gold and put up an 8th place effort with the Dutch taking gold yet again, this was a different one so they have at least 5 guys capable of taking gold on any given day. Gold medal favorite Julia Mancuso also came up short in the downhill skiing event, finishing 8th after winning the downhill portion of the super combined. More tanking by US athletes. The event featured the first tie for the gold in history for Dominique Gisin and Tina Maze. The Germans sweep the luge events with Tobias Wendl and Tobias Arlt flattening all competition. German Eric Frenzel took gold in the Nordic combined as well. The Russians go 1-2 in pairs Figure Skating. Norway still leads the medal count with 12, then Canada and the Netherlands with 10 and the US and Ru ...
*Oh well, not this time. US Olympic speed skating star Shani Davis lost at his attempt for a 3rd gold medal in Sochi Russia. Davis' shot at Olympic histor
I love the Winter Olympics!!! Perfect for a DVR! Although I am not sure what's going on with the U.S. athletes...they are winning medals at a decent clip compared to previous winter games but yet nearly everyone that is expected to win gold falters big time! Bode Miller, Shawn White, Julia Mancuso (in downhill), and Shani Davis come to mind - and we aren't even a week in yet! Maybe the historic success at Vancouver 4 years ago has clouded my judgement?
I watch Shani Davis and Julia Mancuso lose, then have to watch what felt like hours of pairs Figure Skating, all while enduring a second straight night of Matt Lauer as host. Then an American (Katelyn Farrington) finally wins gold and NBC SKIPS the medal ceremony. At least give me the patriotic moment, NBC!
Doubles luge. Weirdest "sport" ever. Never listen to the commentaries...just don't...it makes it even more difficult to take seriously. The Winter Olympics are quite odd altogether. I love em, but American football should be in there somewhere. ;) (hey, the Summer Olympics have soccer...) My honeys, Shaun White & Shani Davis didn't medal, so now I'm just watching to pass the time. Plus side...I've gotten to see a lot of Apolo Ohno. :D Ok. Done rambling. Back to doubles luge. Peace...
It's hard to three-peat, Joe Posnanski writes. Shaun White showed it. Seth Wescott never made. And Shani Davis, on Wednesday, just didn't have it
I am suffering. I am suffering. I am watching the Winter Olympics and i'm constantly being disappointed. First Shaun White no medal, now Shani Davis will not get a medal and Canada Women's hockey prevailed over USA. I think I am going to bed!
Bode Miller, Shaun White, and now Shani Davis! What's going on that the guys we're expecting to blow everyone out of the water aren't even making the podium?!
Wow, Shani Davis didn't win the Gold. His career must be over!
Bummer was really hoping for a 3rd Gold for Shani Davis :(
:Did Shani Davis stand up before the finish line?
Holy crap! First Shaun White NOW Shani Davis. *** is happening to TEAM USA??!?
Can Shani Davis 3pete in speed skating?I hope so
Just left the trail-blazing Olympian Shani Davis' viewing party at Sol Café. We look forward to working with his team on their I.C.E. Program.
No gold for Shani Davis or Shawn White & our medal count is low what is really going on with Team USA?
Shani Davis failed to defend his 2010 gold in the 1000m while Dutch skater Stefan Groothuis won gold.
You didn't make it happen this Olympics, Shani Davis but *** of a big-ups to you for raising the bar and giving kids a different when-i-grow-up goal.
Midweek thoughts from a mixed up mind I have been enjoying the Olympics. Though that they are in Russia I hate that you know everything by time I get home. Hasn't been the best so far for team USA with Bode Miller, Shaun White and Shani Davis all failing to medal Tomorrow starts US men's hockey which I'll record and watch Did think it was cool to hear Santana in the pairs ice skating. Also got to hear the theme from James Bond I like that they are jazzing it up a bit. The US pairs she is 5'0 and he is 6'4. Talk about height difference I've also got into curling as well even though the US teams are not very good I'm rooting for women British team. They are cute and have Scotish accents 😄 I still can't believe that someone actually made T-shirts after the KSU win over KU. At least it's not the athletic dept that did it KSU played better that night but KU is better team and should go further in NCAA Sounds like all the snow this wknd is going to turn to mud though I'll be happy with the warmer weathe ...
Kind of a sad olympics for the USA speed skating team. I don't see why Shani Davis is so hyped. Too late to bring back Derek Parra?
It pisses me off - Joey raced before Shani Davis, and we did not see Joey Race. Joey skated in 15th!!
Well there goes our only chance at black people winning a gold medal for the USA..SHANI DAVIS JUST LOST IN SPEED SKATING. well u can still win at grabbing u some hot RUSSIAN WOMEN and drinking free vodka...ENJOY YO SELF SHANI DAVIS
American speed skater Shani Davis is a minor celebrity in America, but he's practically a folk hero in the Netherlands, where speed skating is beloved all year round. According to the Wall Street Journal, Davis is so respected by the Dutch that even his Olympic rival, Koen Verweij, considers him a h...
I cannot believe Shani Davis didn't place!
awww man Shani Davis didn't make it :(
Tonight Julia Mancuso headlines the gold medal final in women’s downhill and Shani Davis attempts to win the Men’s 1000m Speed Skating event for the 3rd time. In Women’s Halfpipe, the deep U.S. team led by Kelly Clark tries for a podium sweep. All this plus the gold medal final in Pairs’ Figure Skating. Are you enjoying the Olympics so far?
SOCHI, Russia — Shani Davis tried to go to a place no American man in Winter Olympics history had traveled. He came up just short of his destination.
Wondering if NBC is now thinking they have some major screw-ups on their hands. Acting like the NBA, the Peacock network has spent most of last year propping up and shining the light on certain Olympians. Now the ones THEY chose to get all the attention are either injured or have not captured a medal. Lindsey Vonn , Evan Lysacek, Shawn White and today Shani Davis all were given the glamour treatment from past performances and that is understandable. However, with their ages and recent injuries they were in jeopardy of being on the sidelines or unable to get a medal. When you "cherry-pick" the athletes you think are going to win, it will usually bite you in the *** Bob Costas eye situation is getting more pub then anything the American Olympians are doing in the events. One more issue with the media, when Davis doesn't medal using the word fail is an insult to any Olympian. They may not win, but fail is a poor choice. Any man or woman that makes an Olympic team is NOT a failure, they are the best in the w ...

Winter Olympic news yesterday mainly took place in the mountains, as Shaun White's bid for a 3rd straight Gold in the half pipe didn't go well. But Erin Hamlin won the 1st medal, she got bronze, of any US singles luge athlete in the 50 years luge has been an Olympic sport! When the U.S. athletes celebrate their accomplishments during the closing ceremony of the 2014 Olympic Winter Games in Russia on Feb. 23, one Michigan couple will be watching extra closely. But not because they are rooting for a particular athlete. They’ll be tuned in and beaming with justified pride as more than 200 athletes promenade in Sochi wearing custom ceremony sweaters which were knitted from yarn made in Michigan, on their farm, and in their unique fiber mill. Deb and Chuck McDermott of East Jordan, were chosen to be the suppliers to Ralph Lauren of 4,000 pounds, or 400,000 yards, of their own trademarked brand of Shepherd’s Wool yarn to be used to knit the sweaters. Modeled on Ralph Lauren’s website (www.teamusa.ralphlauren.com) by speed skater Shani Davis and ice dancers Meryl Davis and Charlie White, the Team USA Ceremony Sweater is totally crafted in the USA from soft wool. The turtleneck features the word “Polo” and reindeer on the front of the sweater and a U.S. flag and Olympic r ...
