SB 1332, which would make VA's mandatory ultrasound requirement optional, was heard with no testimony from experts (some who had traveled hours to be there) and went to a vote before all of the Democrats could even get in the room. A full circle on RAPE. I met another rape survivor yesterday of very similar circumstances. Wow has my world been rocked. Many of you know of the recent rapes in a sports community that I work with very closely. Just to recap, two men, took there fellow female teammate to a garage on NYE and allegedly* raped her repeatedly (it was all caught on the security cams). Soon after, news broke of the history of their instructor who 20 years prior, went to trial for a 7 man gang rape against a 17 year old. He was acquitted*, but 3 other guys did time for rape. There was just too much rape in the news for me to handle and my world shut down for the last two weeks. Rather than focusing my anger towards the people and the people associated with the gym and their mantras, I decided to effect change myself. Andrew Tilgham and Sam Fellman The Pentagon has ordered the elimination of all formal restrictions preventing women from serving in ground combat and in combat career fields, potentially opening up as many as 34,000 Navy jobs, many of them in some of the service’s most storied branches. Defense Secretary Leon Panetta said Jan. 24 that some jobs will be opened up this year and all billets and career fields across the military should be open to women by the start of 2016 — unless the services seek specific exemptions. Across the military, that means potentially 200,000 jobs. “Not everyone is going to be able to be a combat soldier — but everyone is entitled to a chance,” Panetta told reporters at the Pentagon. I have heard of poignant stories of women being subjected to acid attacks, kidnapping and gang rape. Many of the perpetrators started with seemingly harmless acts of sexual harassment (what we euphemistically call eve teasing). They have her on a psych hold because of our choice to abort. Neither one of us are ready to have children especially from such a act of violence. Lacy goes back to court on Monday, but her parents have puled some strings to keep her locked up saying she is a danger to herself and others. We do have an attorney but we have our hands tied.
