Middlesbrough pulled off an FA Cup upset as they beat Premier League champions Manchester City 2-0 at the Etihad Stadium.Patrick Bamford’s goal in the early stages of the second half put Boro ahead and substitute *** doubled the lead in stoppage time to take the Championship side into the last 16.Although there were opportunities for Willy Caballero and Dedryck Boyata, City boss Manuel Pellegrini named a strong side that included the likes of Vincent Kompany, David Silva and Sergio Aguero so could hardly point to a weakened line-up.But in a game that pitted a former Real Madrid coach in Pellegrini against a former assistant manager at the Bernabeu in Boro boss Aitor Karanka, it was an ex-Real goalkeeper that stole the show.Tomas Mejias made just one La Liga appearance for the Spanish giants prior to joining Middlesbrough last year but showed plenty of class in a hugely impressive display to deny City.Mejias kept out Stevan Jovetic’s rasping shot from distance before pulling off a

LEICESTER v Manchester City (Kick Off 3:00 p.m. UK time. add 1 hour for Nigeria and 2 hrs for South Africa) Leicester goalkeeper Ben Hamer will make only his second Premier League start in place of Kasper Schmeichel, who broke a metatarsal on Thursday. Ritchie de Laet and Wes Morgan are available after illness and suspension respectively, while Paul Konchesky's red card against Villa was overturned. Manchester City captain Vincent Kompany is set to play after a three-match absence with a hamstring problem. David Silva and Stevan Jovetic returned from injury against Roma in midweek. MATCH PREVIEW "It was the best of times, it was the worst of times…" The opening words of the Charles Dickens classic 'A Tale of Two Cities' seem appropriate for this fixture - thinking about the last week anyway. Not even confirmation that Sergio Aguero will be out of action until mid-January could dampen the Manchester City mood, with the opening of their highly-acclaimed £200m training complex followed by a famous Champio ...
Roma0 Manchester City2 Nasri 60′ Zabaleta 86′ Manchester City qualified for the Champions League last 16 for a second successive season as a win at Roma put them through alongside Group E winners Bayern Munich. Samir Nasri scored from 25 yards after the break before Pablo Zabaleta fired in from close range. Earlier Joe Hart tipped Gervinho's strike wide before touching Kostas Manolas's header onto the post. Bayern beat CSKA Moscow 3-0 to confirm City's qualification. It completed a remarkable turnaround for the Premier League champions, who looked to be heading out of the competition after failing to win any of their first four games. However, a 3-2 home win over German champions Bayern, which included a Sergio Aguero hat-trick, kept alive their hopes of making the last 16 - and they took full advantage with a stunning display in Rome. City, who had to win a European match in Italy for the first time, were without skipper Vincent Kompany, who failed a late fitness test, the suspended Yaya Toure and in ...
Joe Hart due to sign new Manchester City contract Richard Jolly December 5, 2014 MANCHESTER -- Joe Hart is set to sign a new contract with Manchester City imminently. The goalkeeper, whose current deal expires in 2016, has been in talks with the Premier League champions for several months about an extension. And manager Manuel Pellegrini confirmed he expects the 27-year-old to give the club a boost by putting pen to paper soon. "I always said it is important for this club to keep Joe with us," Pellegrini said in a news conference. "He is a very good goalkeeper and not only a very good goalkeeper, he is a very important player for the squad also, so maybe in the next days you will have good news." Hart will become the seventh City player to sign a contract extension this year after Aleksandar Kolarov, Samir Nasri, Vincent Kompany, David Silva, Sergio Aguero and Edin Dzeko. The former Birmingham loanee has made 275 appearances for City since his arrival from Shrewsbury in 2006. Pellegrini dropped Hart for a ...
Black Friday was turned inky blue for one City super fan - after Sergio Aguero autographed his back so it could be turned into a tatoo. Alan Smith, 55, already has six tributes to his club emblazoned across his body, including a full back celebration of City’s 3-2 win against Queen Park Rangers in May 2012 - the result which gave the club its first Premier League title. The body art is topped by the City badge, complete with the Latin slogan ‘Superbia In Proelia’ - or ‘Pride in Battle’. It also features portraits of Aguero, skipper Vincent Kompany, ex-manager Roberto Mancini and keeper Joe Hart. So after the striker’s book signing became an impromptu back signing, Alan high-tailed it to the tattoo parlour - and Aguero’s name has been freshly tattooed alongside his famous face.
Manuel Pellegrini, Vincent Kompany call Sergio Aguero one of world's best
Three Points: Manchester United vs. Manchester City MANCHESTER -- Three observations from Manchester City's 1-0 win over city rivals United as Chris Smalling's sending off handed the champions the advantage and Sergio Aguero made it count. 1. Smalling stupidity costs United One display of brilliance from Sergio Aguero was only allowed to happen by two displays of stupidity from Chris Smalling as Manchester City took the derby honours in a 1-0 win over rivals United at the Etihad. Smalling's sending off for two bookable offences in the first half was really the story of the match, as City returned to form and United still try to find consistency. Louis van Gaal said before this game that it was crucial not to go down to 10 men or let the emotions of a derby get to the team. But that was the opposite of what happened. Smalling's first booking, an attempt to block a Joe Hart kick-out, was an illustration of over-eagerness; the second was even worse as he slid in on James Milner knowing that if he mistimed hi ...

Transfer news: Vincent Kompany hails Manchester City's summer business Vincent Kompany has saluted Manchester City's summer business, with fresh faces acquired and new deals agreed. Four additions have been made at the Etihad Stadium, with Eliaquim Mangala, Fernando, Willy Caballero and Bacary Sagna joining the Premier League champions. Their arrival will help to add depth to a squad already brimming with world-class talent. They will also help to complement key men on Manuel Pellegrini’s books. City have worked hard to ensure that the core of a successful side has been retained, with Samir Nasri, Aleksandar Kolarov, Sergio Aguero and club captain Kompany agreeing contact extensions. It feels like a productive window for those in the City camp, with old and new pulling in the same direction.

Newcastle have won just once in the last five seasons in their opening match (D2 L2). The Magpies have failed to score in their last three Barclays Premier League clashes with Manchester City. Man City full backs Aleksandar Kolarov (7) and Pablo Zabaleta (6) assisted more goals than any other defenders in the 2013-14 Premier League. Frank Lampard is the top scoring midfielder in Premier League history with 171 goals, as many as Aguero, Dzeko, Yaya Toure, David Silva and Vincent Kompany combined. Despite winning only two of their opening eight away games last season, City still ended the campaign with 34 road points. Only Liverpool and Arsenal (35) gained more (Man Utd & Chelsea also coll ...

"Wayne Rooney hasn't the right mentality or discipline to be a world class player" - Joey Barton. This is coming from the same man who has been sent off 8 times in his career, stubbed a lit cigar into the eye of a young team mate while at Man City, broke the leg of a pensioner while driving his car at 2am in Liverpool city centre, had a public altercation with a 15 year old Everton fan in Bangkok, dropped his shorts infront of live television cameras while playing against Everton, was arrested on suspicion of assault and criminal damage after an incident with a taxi driver, hospitalised a team mate after a fight at Man City's training ground, was arrested and jailed for 6 months for assault after his involvement in a pub brawl, punches Morten Gamst Pedersen in the stomach during a match while playing for Newcastle United, got sold by Newcastle United to QPR after publicly criticising Alan Shearer and finally charged by the FA £75,000 for assaulting Vincent Kompany and Sergio Aguero in 2012. Manchester United manager David Moyes would not confirm the fitness status of defenders Jonny Evans, Rio Ferdinand and Chris Smalling. However, United are definitely without captain Nemanja Vidic, who completes a two-match suspension. City boss Manuel Pellegrini has confirmed Matija Nastasic and Sergio Aguero remain absent with knee and hamstring injuries respectively. Skipper Vincent Kompany returns after his one-match ban.
Two of English footballs greatest rivals go head to head at night at Old Trafford, and both sides will go into the fixture with positive frames of mind following convincing victories over the weekend. Both sides will be without arguably their leading strikers, as Robin Van Persie and Sergio Aguero will miss the clash due to injury. Howver, they will both be buoyed by the returns of stalwarts Rio Ferdinand and Vincent Kompany, both no strangers to fierce Manchester derbies. (Manchester United vs Manchester City) KICK-OFF: 7.45pm
Tonight's BPL Fixtures Tuesday, 25 March 2014 21:45 Arsenal vs Swansea Newcastle vs Everton Man Utd vs Man City Preview David Moyes refused to reveal whether any of his injured centre-halves will be available for Manchester United's crunch derby against rivals City on Tuesday. Chris Smalling (hamstring), Jonny Evans (calf) and Rio Ferdinand (back) sat out the 2-0 win at West Ham on Saturday, but manager Moyes was giving no clues away regarding their fitness when questioned on the matter at his pre-match press conference. Winger Antonio Valencia (eye) is a doubt but defender Nemanja Vidic (suspension) and striker Robin Van Persie (knee) are definitely unavailable. Vincent Kompany will return from suspension to bolster City's back-line. Kompany sat out City's 5-0 thumping of Fulham at the Etihad Stadium after his sending-off in the previous week's Premier League win at Hull. PREDICTION TIME guys!!! MATCHDAY-Man.Utd. v Man.City kickoff 26/3/2014 am(Singapore time) Form guide: Manchester United go into the derby in a positive frame of mind, following the 3-0 and 2-0 wins over Olympiacos and West Ham respectively within the space of the last few days. City will also be in a buoyant mood, having beaten Hull and Fulham in the Barclays Premier League since their exits from both the FA Cup and the Champions League earlier this month. Ins and outs: Nemanja Vidic serves the second of the two-game suspension he accrued for his second red card of the season, against Liverpool. Jonny Evans, Chris Smalling and Rio Ferdinand were all absent from the squad for Saturday’s win at West Ham, but Michael Carrick acquitted himself superbly in central defence alongside Phil Jones and may be an option there once again. A knee injury has side-lined Robin Van Persie for four to six weeks. Vincent Kompany will be available for City after his own one-match ban, but Sergio Aguero has, according to Blu ...

The idea of Lionel Messi, Robin Van Persie, Sergio Aguero, Vincent Kompany and Sergio Ramos all in the same team may not be as far-fetched as you think.

Who are your top 5 footballers to have worn the sky blue shirt? -Kie Here's my top 5... Nicolas Anelka - During his time at City, was when I first got into football, may not be a City great but he was my favourite footballer when I first got into football, scored a few against United as well. Shaun Goater - A club legend and City's all time top scorer. An inspiration on the field as well as off the field. Shaun Wright-Phillips - One of my all time favourite footballers, to me also a City legend! Vincent Kompany - In my opinion he is the best defender in the world, a monster of a defender who's also great with his feet and is an excellent captain. Sergio Aguero - I had the choice between him and Kompany, but I went for the Argentine hitman Sergio Aguero. His goal against QPR is mainly the reason why but he is in my opinion, the best player to have played for City.

Team News & LATE Fitness check : Manchester City v Chelsea Manchester City manager Manuel Pellegrini confirmed Sergio Aguero is out for a month, so Edin Dzeko will be expected to partner the returning Alvaro Negredo. The rest of the side picks itself, with a midfield of Jesus Navas, Yaya Toure, Fernandinho and David Silva and a defence featuring Pablo Zabaleta, Vincent Kompany and Martin Demichelis. The only question mark is who gets the nod between Gael Clichy and Aleksandar Kolarov, with Kolarov favourite after Clichy started at White Hart Lane on Wednesday. Chelsea will be without Fernando Torres, so Samuel Eto'o will start at the Etihad. It seems unlikely Jose Mourinho will do any rotating, so expect to see the strongest line-up available. This could mean a start for Matic in midfield alongside Ramires, with Oscar, Eden Hazard and Willian supporting Eto'o. West Brom v Liverpool West Brom striker Nicolas Anelka has been ruled out with a knee injury, and will not feature against one of his former sides. ...
After demolishing Spurs 5-1 on Wednesday and with the chance to win four trophies at the end of the 2013/14 season, Manchester City are chasing the improbable target of scoring two centuries of goals in all competitions. The five goals they scored on Wednesday made it 115 goals scored already in 37 games, an average of 3.1 goals per game. And starting next Monday, when they face Chelsea at the Etihad, City have at least 27 matches to play till the end of the season – that is saying they get to the finals of all their cup competitions plus the 15 games they have to play in the Premiership. Their 115-goal haul have been provided by a dozen players – from their two top strikers; Sergio Aguero, who has scored 26 goals to Alvaro Negredo on 23. Substitute striker, Edin Dzeko, has scored 17, while midfield juggernaut, Yaya Toure has weighed in with 15. And what makes the Citizens a fearsome goal-scoring side is that all departments of their play have provided goals. Left-back Aleksandar Kolarov has scored fo ...
WHO'S SCORING ALL THE GOALS? City's 115 goals have come from 12 different players this season. Unsurprisingly, strikers Sergio Aguero and Alvaro Negredo are leading the way but the midfielders have been pulling their weight too - most notably, Yaya Toure has netted 15 times already. Centre back and captain Vincent Kompany is among the goals as well, scoring three times from defence. He isn't the highest- scoring defender at City though. Aleksandar Kolarov has four goals from left back. 1. Sergio Aguero 26 2. Alvaro Negredo 23 3. Edin Dzeko 17 4. Yaya Toure 15 5. Jesus Navas 5 6. Samir Nasri 5 7. David Silva 5 8. Aleksandar Kolarov 4 9. Fernandinho 3 10. Stevan Jovetic 3 11. Vincent Kompany 3 12. James Milner 2
escape scare, Liverpool win Sergio Aguero scored a hat-trick as Manchester City escaped a huge FA Cup upset by coming from behind to win 4-2 at home to second-tier Watford on Saturday. Beaten Championship play-off finalists last season, Watford went 2-0 up inside 30 minutes through Fernando Forestieri and Troy Deeney to leave free-scoring City at risk of a shock defeat. However, Aguero struck three times in the last half an hour, with Aleksandar Kolarov also on target, to send last season's beaten finalists into the fifth round. With Watford 15th in the Championship, they were given little chance of pulling off an upset at the Etihad Stadium, but they took the lead in the 21st minute when Forestieri beat Costel Pantilimon. It was a reward for the visitors' bold start to the game and nine minutes later they made it 2-0, with Deeney finishing off a sweeping move involving Sean Murray and Ikechi Anya. City manager Manuel Pellegrini sent on defenders Vincent Kompany and Pablo Zabaleta for the second half and ...

Vincent Kompany, Yaya Toure & Sergio Aguero have all been listed in the 2013 Uefa team of the year! The only Premier League players to do so. Deservedly so.
Manchester City v Barcelona What a tie this is. Manchester City, fresh off a 6-3 hammering of league leaders Arsenal, seem to be unbeatable at home and are scoring goals for fun. The 3-2 win at Bayern Munich was proof that City are ready to fire with the big boys in Europe this season. The partnership of Sergio Aguero and Alvaro Negredo is a threat to any team on their day and it will be no different here. There are certain players that City have to keep fit however, such as captain Vincent Kompany, Aguero and Yaya Toure. If they do this, City have a real chance. The only concern for City is their struggling away form, which has been evident in the league. It remains to be seen as to whether they will cope with Barca's fluent passing at the Camp Nou. Although this seems like a very tough draw for Man City, Barcelona are certainly not the team that they were three or four years ago. They have major problems at the back, with Gerard Pique proving to be inconsistent, Javier Mascherano not completely settling ...

Newcastle United v Southampton – Saturday 15:00 Newcastle midfielder Yohan Cabaye will miss Southampton's visit to St James' Park through suspension. Fernando Torres snatched a late winner in a pulsating match at Stamford Bridge as Chelsea beat fellow title hopefuls Manchester City 2-1 to climb to second in the Premier League. Torres had earlier set up Andre Schurrle brilliantly to make it 1-0 to the Blues after 33 minutes, only for Sergio Aguero to power in a superb leveller in the 49th minute. Both sides had chances in an exciting finale but it looked like they would have to settle for a point apiece until Torres capitalised on a defensive mix-up between Matija Nastasic and Joe Hart to seal victory. Jose Mourinho kept faith with Torres up front following his two goals against Schalke and Chelsea began brightly as they looked to test a defence marshalled by Nastasic and debutant Martin Demichelis in the absence of injured captain Vincent Kompany. However, after one anxious moment when Gary Cahill volleyed over the top as the offside flag stayed down from an Oscar cross, Manuel Pellegrini's side soon settled and began to enjoy the majority of possessio ...

BPL TOP 5 EXPENSIVE TEAMS: 1. Manchester City - £380m Manchester City spent a club record fee to complete the signing of Atletico Madrid striker Sergio Aguero in the summer of 2011 and, after an instrumental role in delivering the title in his first season with the club, the Argentine remains the most highly-valued player on the books at the Etihad Stadium. According to Transfermarkt, Aguero's present market value of £39.5 million places him at the top of Manchester City's rankings, although he is closely followed by fleet-footed Spaniard David Silva. City spent £25 million to acquire Silva from Valencia, and his value has soared since his arrival in Manchester, with the 27-year-old worth 54 percent more now than he was upon arrival almost three years ago. Manchester City have two other players valued in excess of £30 million in Yaya Toure (£31.5m) and Vincent Kompany (£31m), making Roberto Mancini's squad the most valued in the Premier League. 2. The City boss must decide whether to maintain the recent 4-5-1 formation rolled out against Chelsea, which saw Yaya Toure tuck in behind Sergio Aguero, or move back to 4-4-2, with Carlos Tevez perhaps the favourite to get the nod to partner his compatriot. Barry's return could see Jack Rodwell dropped to the bench, while Kolo Toure could retain his start in defence should Kompany fail to make it - Joleon Lescott, benched against Chelsea, presents an alternative. admin "Amit"

MATCH PREVIEW Incredibly, the sale of Mario Balotelli means the reigning champions have virtually balanced their books in transfer dealings this season. But has Roberto Mancini got it right in depending on the current squad to retain the title? Balotelli's departure will leave a more harmonious dressing room. It'll also leave them short of striking cover at a time when goals have been hard to come by. Sergio Aguero, Edin Dzeko and Carlos Tevez have just seven between them in the last nine league and cup games. LAWRO'S PREDICTION Image of Mark Lawrenson Mark Lawrenson Football Analyst "This will be a tight game, but there have to be worries over City's defence with Vincent Kompany out injured. If Matija Nastasic is not fit, then Javi Garcia will have to drop into defence again and, if they show any sort of weakness then Luis Suarez will take them apart. "I have to take my hat off to Suarez because he has dropped a little bit deeper since Daniel Sturridge arrived and taken a different role but he has been e ...
THE post-Mario Balotelli era at Manchester City began in lacklustre fashion as it was held to a 0-0 draw at Queens Park Rangers today that prevented it from making up ground on Manchester United. Victory for City would have cut United's lead to just two points, but instead Alex Ferguson's side will tackle Southampton tomorrow with an opportunity to re-open a seven-point lead at the English Premier League summit. The troublesome Italian striker is expected to complete a switch to AC Milan tomorrow, and City could have done with some extra firepower at Loftus Road. An injury to Vincent Kompany obliged the champion to start with Spanish midfielder Javi Garcia at centre-back, but it began with both Carlos Tevez and Sergio Aguero in attack as they sought to exploit bottom club QPR's defensive frailties. Joleon Lescott blazed an early chance over the crossbar from close range, while Pablo Zabaleta headed against the bar from a David Silva cross and Aguero had a goal ruled out for offside.
Why spain is the powerhouse of soccer? . . . . Two Cities, three clubs. The world’s best XI of 2012 was comprised entirely of players from Barcelona (5), Real Madrid (5) and Falcao from Atletico Madrid. Or ‘Madrid 6 Barcelona 5’ according to Madrid-based sport paper AS, who prefer club and city one-upmanship. Not a single player who makes his living in the footballing powerhouses of Manchester, Munich or Milan made the XI. Not one who plays in Turin, Dortmund or Paris either. Casillas; Alves, Pique, Ramos, Marcelo; Alonso, Xavi, Iniesta; Messi, Falcao, Ronaldo are the chosen few, voted for by their peers from 49 players’ unions worldwide. It’s an incredible, if awkwardly named, FIFA/FIFPro Team, but it’s partly subjective and arguments will prevail. Why no Philipp Lahm, captain of Bayern Munich and Germany? What about Manchester City’s Yaya Toure, Sergio Aguero or Vincent Kompany? Andrea Pirlo, Giorgio Chiellini or Gianluigi Buffon from Italy? There’s no Petr Cech or Ashley Cole from Chels ...

Adam Johnson scored against his former club as Sunderland shocked Manchester City with a hard-fought victory. City had the better of the first half as Vincent Kompany hit the bar and Simon Mignolet made good saves from Yaya Toure and David Silva. Sergio Aguero was denied late on as City fell seven points behind Manchester United in the title race.
Μanchester City-Reading Tactical Analysis Man City snatched a controversial winner in stoppage time over a determined Reading side who arrived at the Etihad and parked the bus. Both sides showed a number of changes from recent games. Vincent Kompany made the bench following his return from a groin injury, enabling Kolo Toure to start. With Gael Clichy out injured, Dutch youngster Karim Rekik started at left back. Gareth Barry was recalled following his suspension and partnered Javi Garcia, giving Toure license to push further upfield. Sergio Aguero and Carlos Tevez hoped to extend their record of Man City always winning when the two begin a game together. Man City used a 4-2-3-1 formation. Reading boss Brian McDermott rang the defensive changes following the heavy home defeat to Arsenal. Only Adrian Mariappa survived from that game with Chris Gunter, Alex Pearce and Ian Harte all recalled. 3) Manchester City 2-3 Manchester United FA Cup Third Round; 8th January, 2012 A game full of surprises, started by the inclusion of Paul Scholes – who had previously retired in the summer – in the 18-man squad. United were in complete control after Rooney gave the visitors the lead and Vincent Kompany was sent-off for a challenge on Nani. Danny Welbeck and another Rooney strike made it 3-0 at half-time. However, goals from Aleksandar Kolarov and Sergio Aguero made for a stunning second-half, with United progressing at the expense of their rivals.
Rafa Benitez could not inspire Chelsea to victory over Manchester City in his first game in charge and was the subject of protests from some fans in a goalless draw at Stamford Bridge. The Spaniard has succeeded the sacked Roberto Di Matteo on an interim basis and his former connection with Liverpool has made him unpopular in London. Sections of the Chelsea support held up banners against Benitez and they also stood and applauded in the 16th minute, which was Di Matteo's shirt number in his playing days, before the game ended in a forgettable 0-0 draw. Sergio Aguero wasted the best chance of a turgid Premier League encounter in driving rain, which the visitors had the better of in the first half but the home side the second. The draw moved unbeaten champions City to within a point of new leaders Manchester United, leaving Chelsea fourth. Benitez has shored up the Blues' defence during his four days in charge but he has his work cut out to get them playing the scintillating football demanded by the watchin ...
Manchester City 1-1 Borussia Dortmund: Ice cool Balotelli rescues precious Champions League point for Mancini’s men The Italian substitute and goalkeeper Joe Hart are the heroes for the English champions as they struggle to contain the outstanding Bundesliga holders. For Roberto Mancini, there continues to be no sign of improvement to an increasingly desperate Champions League record. The Italian cut a frustrated figure at Etihad Stadium as Manchester City needed an 89th-minute Mario Balotelli penalty to draw 1-1 against an excellent Borussia Dortmund side.Substitute Balotelli, who had only been on the pitch for eight minutes, stroked home the spot-kick with ice-cool precision after Neven Subotic had been harshly penalised for hand-balling a Sergio Aguero volley. It came after Dortmund had created a glut of excellent opportunities only to be denied by a Joe Hart masterclass in goal. The England No.1 could not prevent Marco Reus giving the visitors the lead after 60 minutes but he was equal to everything ...

Manchester City have copied a well known and proven blueprint for success in England, used in the past by Manchester United and Chelsea: First get a strong spine – a great goalkeeper (Joe Hart), a rock in defence (Vincent Kompany), a midfield general (Yaya Toure) , a player like Carlos Tevez – a determined dribbler , and a talisman (Sergio Aguero). - by Ouriel Daskal (Sport Business Editor)
What a fitting finale to the 2011-12 season of Barclays Premier League... kudos to Manchester City! That is the spirit of being Champions of the world's best league .. Coming back from 1-2 to clinch a goal with the last kick to win the championship deserves credit. It is very different from the manipulative mind games that we have been seeing win trophies for the last 2 decades. Step aside Manchester United! The 'noisy neighbors' have dismantled the abominable gum chewing old hag... Hats off to Roberto Mancini, Vincent Kompany and team (special mention of Ya Ya Toure, Sergio Aguero, Joe Hart and David Silva) ... Welcome to a new Era in football, and more importantly, goodbye to a bygone era of winning through manipulation and bad influence..!

City now need only to match the results of their Manchester rivals in the final two games of the league campaign in order to pip Sir Alex Ferguson's men to the trophy. City had scored 12 goals in three matches prior to this fixture and as a result Roberto Mancini opted to stick with the side that had relegated Wolves eight days earlier. That meant that Carlos Tevez faced his former club alongside Sergio Aguero in attack, with David Silva and Samir Nasri in support. Antonio Valencia was surprisingly omitted from the United starting XI, with Park Ji-Sung and Ryan Giggs joini ...
The half-time whistle goes and City walk off to a standing ovation. They have dominated this match without creating too many chances, but Kompany struck at a crucial time just before the interval and the onus is now on United to respond. 45+1 GOAL David Silva delivers the corner and Vincent Kompany climbs highest to beat Chris Smalling in the air and power a header past David de Gea. The crowd erupts and that goal is fully deserved for City. 45 Patrice Evra is well positioned to cut out a low cross from David Silva as City continue to build patiently. 43 Sergio Aguero feels aggrieved as he is muscled off the ball by Rio Ferdinand, but that is strong defending rather than a foul and the referee waves play on. 41 City are caught napping as the corner is played diagonally to Park Ji-sung just inside the area, but the South Korean blasts his shot way over the crossbar. 40 While City have definitely been the better team in this half, United still carry an attacking threat on the break and they win a corner her ...
