Joe Hart due to sign new Manchester City contract Richard Jolly December 5, 2014 MANCHESTER -- Joe Hart is set to sign a new contract with Manchester City imminently. The goalkeeper, whose current deal expires in 2016, has been in talks with the Premier League champions for several months about an extension. And manager Manuel Pellegrini confirmed he expects the 27-year-old to give the club a boost by putting pen to paper soon. "I always said it is important for this club to keep Joe with us," Pellegrini said in a news conference. "He is a very good goalkeeper and not only a very good goalkeeper, he is a very important player for the squad also, so maybe in the next days you will have good news." Hart will become the seventh City player to sign a contract extension this year after Aleksandar Kolarov, Samir Nasri, Vincent Kompany, David Silva, Sergio Aguero and Edin Dzeko. The former Birmingham loanee has made 275 appearances for City since his arrival from Shrewsbury in 2006. Pellegrini dropped Hart for a ...
RESULTS RECAP A late goal from Alexis Sanchez grabbed all three points for Arsenal as the Saints lost their second-straight game without scoring. Gunners have now won two on the spin. Spurs started brightly but first half goals from Eden Hazard and Didier Drogba put Chelsea 2-0 up and Tottenham never recovered. The EPL’s leaders look imperious and Loic Remy added another. The Blues are still top, six points clear of Man City. Speaking of City, they overcame going behind early on, as Conor Wickham gave Sunderland the lead. But barely two minutes later Sergio Aguero slammed home his 18th goal of the season, before he set up Stevan Jovetic to make it 2-1 at half time. Samir Nasri and Pablo Zabaleta combined in the second half to score a third and then Aguero grabbed another to make it 4-1. The Toffees went ahead through Romelu Lukaku in the first half, but Hull came flying back and Sone Aluko equalized at Goodison Park. Honors even. Sergio Aguero is as good as Lionel Messi and 'only Cristiano Ronaldo is better', says Samir Nasri
Manuel Pellegrini has revealed City will be without Stevan Jovetic, Fernando and Samir Nasri for Saturday's trip to Hull. Speaking at his pre-match press conference at Carrington, the Chilean confirmed the trio are not available for selection, although he also claimed they could return to action as soon as next week. On a more positive note, the 61-year-old declared Sergio Aguero and David Silva fit for the clash at the KC Stadium. "We continue with Jovetic and Fernando out of the team," he disclosed. "Both of them will be ready next week but Nasri also has a groin problem. "Aguero and Silva are both okay." The champions head into the game on the back of a thumping 7-0 win over Sheffield Wednesday - a result Pellegrini was delighted with and hopes will spur his players on against a side he feels will provide a tough test. "It was a very useful match for our team," he reflected. "We were not scoring too many goals here at home. We did not win the last four games. We did not play badly but we didn’t win. ...

Four additions have been made at the Etihad Stadium, with Eliaquim Mangala, Fernando, Willy Caballero and Bacary Sagna joining the Premier League champions. Their arrival will help to add depth to a squad already brimming with world-class talent. They will also help to complement key men on Manuel Pellegrini’s books. City have worked hard to ensure that the core of a successful side has been retained, with Samir Nasri, Aleksandar Kolarov, Sergio Aguero and club captain Kompany agreeing contact extensions. It feels like a productive window for those in the City camp, with old and new pulling in the same direction.

Five matches that decided the 2013-14 Premier League title By John Brewin | May 15, 2014 4:10:41 AM PDT After a 2013-14 Premier League title race of twists and turns, John Brewin selects the five most decisive games of the season as Manchester City ultimately claimed glory ahead of Liverpool on the final day. Manchester City 4-1 Manchester United, Sept. 22 This was the Sunday afternoon when it became clear that the champions would not be putting up a credible defence of their title. Three minutes either side of half-time crashingly delivered that message. David Moyes' Manchester United were destroyed by a City team that looked streets ahead. In the 17th minute, Sergio Aguero converted after attempts had rained down on David De Gea's goal. United's best hope was holding on for half-time and that Moyes might perform a tactical or motivational miracle. Yaya Toure's 45th-minute strike negated that, and whatever Moyes might have said had no effect as two quick goals by Aguero and Samir Nasri followed. Thereaft ...

Fancy seeing the ‘Arabian Messi’ Omar Abdulrahman and Ghanian Asamoah Gyan, going up against the likes of Vincent Kompany, Sergio Aguero, Yaya Toure, Samir Nasri and David Silva on UAE soil?
Eden Hazard is probably as gifted a player as any in the Premier League, but what he does not have is the support that the likes of Luis Suarez, Philippe Coutinho, Daniel Sturridge, Raheem Sterling, Sergio Aguero, David Silva and Samir Nasri enjoy when they take to the field. It is not because Chelsea don’t have a talented supporting cast; far from it, they have some fantastic players. It’s just that, well, as Hazard himself said, they aren’t set up to play football are they?
has worried Sergio Aguero by selling star player Samir Nasri.
Man City STUMBLE AS EVERTON FAIL: Manchester City were forced to come from behind to earn a 2-2 draw against Sunderland at the Etihad Stadium, but the result put a dent in their title chances and left Gus Poyet's Black Cats six points from safety. Fernandinho's second-minute strike was cancelled out by a second-half brace from Connor Wickham, before Samir Nasri earned a late draw for the hosts. City made their presence felt from the off and when Lee Cattermole was caught in possession, the hosts pounced to take advantage. Sergio Aguero raced to the edge of the Sunderland box, before a sliding a ball into the path of Fernandinho, who fired into the roof of Vito Mannone's goal. Sunderland captain John O'Shea spurned two headed chances and Fabio Borini shot wide of the target having found space in the City box as the visitors failed to seize their opportunities to draw level. Despite City dominating possession throughout the second half, it was Sunderland who snatched the second goal. Emanuele Giaccherini b ...
Sunderland hold City, Crystal Palace cruise Liverpool's position atop the English Premier League table was strengthened on Wednesday when title rivals Manchester City were held to a 2-2 draw at home to bottom club Sunderland. Beaten 3-2 at Liverpool on Sunday, City were bidding to close to within four points of Brendan Rodgers's side in the first of their two games in hand. Fernandinho's 2nd-minute goal at the Etihad Stadium put City on track, but after Connor Wickham scored twice in the last 17 minutes, the hosts needed a fortuitous 88th-minute equaliser from Samir Nasri just to rescue a point. The result left City six points below Liverpool in third place and although Manuel Pellegrini's side still have a game in hand, the title is inching ever closer to Anfield. City were without injured midfielder Yaya Toure, but top scorer Sergio Aguero returned to their starting line-up alongside Alvaro Negredo as Pellegrini made five changes to the team that lost at Liverpool. The hosts made an ideal start, with Ne ...
Manchester City could find themselves in hot water with Uefa over Financial Fair Play, which could lead to positive implications for Arsenal or Everton in their quest for Champions League football next season. What’s the story? City are on the verge of a severe rap from football’s governing body for failing to comply with FFP. Why? After buying the likes of Sergio Aguero, Samir Nasri, Gael Clichy, Javi Garcia and Matija Nastasic, City posted a loss of £149m between 2011-2013 – FFP rules forbid clubs making losses in excess of £37.2 million over that period after certain exceptions are taken into account. What does this mean? It means that if City fail to provide new evidence in the next 48 hours to support claims they’ve played by the rules in their bid to balance the books (their £350million sponsorship deal with Etihad being under particular scrutiny), they are likely to be found guilty of FFP and be hit with either a heavy fine or transfer embargo. At this time, expulsion from the Champions L ...
Stadium desperate to land Anfield hot- shot. Man City are desperate to land Liverpool striker Luis Suarez and are ready to offer Brendan Rodgers his pick of a trio of talents in part of a cash plus player offer for the Uruguayan according to Football Direct News . The Etihad Stadium side may well be keen on partnering Suarez with Argentine goal machine Sergio Aguero, a pairing that would perhaps be as mouthwatering as any other in world football, however it seems hugely unlikely that the Anfield side would consider losing their prized asset this summer. Suarez is currently not only the top scorer in the Premier League he also leads the assist making charts and has fueled Liverpool's genuine Premier League title challenge. The 27 year old has forged a superb strike- pairing alongside Daniel Sturridge and there would appear to be no reason why Suarez would consider leaving Liverpool, not least as Champions League football has all but been assured for next term and the former Ajax man has only recently signe ...

Following Jose Mourihno's comments that Man City will face the worst Barca side in recent times, we take a look at the teams' chances below: Barcelona had scored 100 this season by February, the only team in Europe to have bettered that is Man City with 115 goals. Alvaro Negrodo and Sergio Aguero who will miss this game have managed 49 goals between them. Fernandinho has passed fitness test and likely to partner Yaya Toure as double pivot in a 4-2-3-1 formation that is likely to see Samir Nasri in a central role with David Silva at the left. Stevan Jotevic will likely operate in the middle of attack, Jesus Navas at the right wing and Negredo leading the attack. Barcelona is likely to deplore their favorite 4-3-3 set up for another night of passing and possession game of tiki taka. ENGLISH FA CUP 5TH ROUND: MASSIVE SHOWDOWN AS CHELSEA ONCE AGAIN TAKES THE BATTLE TO THE Etihad Stadium TO FACE Manchester City! Manchester City vs Chelsea For the second time in the space of 12 days, Jose Mourinho takes his Chelsea team to the Etihad Stadium to do battle with Manuel Pellegrini's Manchester City, this time, in the 5th Round of the English FA Cup. Already this season, both sides have met in both legs of the English Premier League where Fernando Torres's last minutes goal gave Chelsea a 2-1 victory at the Stamford Bridge in the first leg. While Branislav Ivanovic fired Chelsea to a much talked about victory right inside the Etihad Stadium in the reverse fixture. The Blues are in search of a third straight victory over the Citizens this season. Manchester City have Samir Nasri and Javi Garcia back from injuries. They are both fully fit for this tie. While Fernandinho, Matija Nastsic and Sergio Aguero are still out injured. Chelsea on the other hand have Fernando Torres back, fit and ready fo ...
RIBERY,AGUERO & THE PLAYERS INJURED OR SUSPENDED FOR Champions League LAST 16 A number of high-profile names will be unavailable as the Champions League returns next week Manchester City - BARCELONA Manchester City manager Manuel Pellegrini will have to make do without Samir Nasri due to injury, while star forward Sergio Aguero and Brazilian midfielder Fernandinho also face a race to be fit due to physical problems. James Milner will have to watch the game from the stands after picking up a one-match ban following his three yellow cards in the group stages. For Barcelona, experienced defender Carles Puyol and Brazil international Neymar are expected to be match fit in time after resuming regular training action this week, but neither of the two has featured for the Catalans in recent weeks. Mexico international Jonathan dos Santos will miss the game as he is still recovering from a cruciate ligament injury. Manchester City defender Matija Nastasic (knee) has joined the club's injury list ahead of their midweek Premier League clash with Sunderland. The Serbian is not expected to be out long but misses Wednesday's contest at the Etihad Stadium along with striker Sergio Aguero (hamstring), playmaker Samir Nasri (knee) and midfielders Fernandinho and Javi Garcia (muscle injuries). Key midfielder Yaya Toure is available after escaping retrospective punishment following an off-the-ball incident involving Norwich's Ricky van Wolfswinkel last weekend. Wes Brown will miss out for Sunderland through suspension. The 34-year-old central defender will sit out both Wednesday's visit to Manchester and Saturday's FA Cup fifth-round tie against Southampton after being sent off for the second time this season - a further red card was later rescinded in November - in the 2-0 home defeat by Hull at the weekend. January signing Santiago Vergini is likely to deputise, while fellow defender Carlos Cuellar (hip) and striker Steven ...
Norwich defender Ryan Bennett is a doubt after straining a thigh muscle in training so new signing Joseph Yobo could make his Canaries debut. Wes Hoolahan returns to the squad after his on-off transfer saga, but Michael Turner and Jonny Howson remain out. Manchester City will be without the injured Sergio Aguero, Fernandinho, Samir Nasri and Javi Garcia. James Milner is fit after a groin injury, and Edin Dzeko and Joleon Lescott have overcome ankle problems. Manchester City's 7-0 thrashing of Norwich saw one of the most inept performances witnessed in the Premier League. With four home wins already behind them, that victory heralded the start of Manchester City's fabulous goal glut at home with 29 coming in the next seven matches. They would have beaten any team that day, but there was still no excusing Norwich's surrender. It smacked of a team that thought it was beaten before a ball was kicked - a team haunted by the two hammerings dished out by the same opponents in 2011-12. Following Monday's defeat b ...
Manuel Pellegrini has said it will be "difficult" for Fernandinho to be fit for Manchester City’s Champions League clash with Barcelona and that although Sergio Aguero will definitely be out he expects Samir Nasri to be available. • Curtis: Time to start another run City manager Pellegrini stressed there was no chance that top scorer Aguero would recover from a hamstring strain in time to face the Spanish champions at the Etihad Stadium on Feb. 18. "He is working with the physio," he added. "He has started running, but he will not be ready for Barcelona." Midfielder Fernandinho sustained a muscle strain in training on Sunday and sat out Monday's 1-0 defeat to Chelsea.
Manchester City striker Sergio Aguero is out for a month with a hamstring injury he sustained in the midweek win at Tottenham Hotspur. Midfielders Samir Nasri and Javi Garcia are also unavailable, with knee and muscle injuries respectively. Chelsea will monitor the fitness of winger Mohamed Salah following his move from Basel. Salah missed Wednesday's derby against West Ham along with Fernando Torres, who is sidelined with a knee injury. It could be explosive. It's bound to be fascinating. Having been frustrated by West Ham's "19th Century football", Jose Mourinho now has to come up with a plan to counter football from another planet. Well, not quite, but football being played by "the best team on the planet", according to Tottenham boss Tim Sherwood. It's a match that pitches the Premier League's most potent attack against its tightest defence, which in itself shows the massive difference a change of coach can have on the ethos of a club. Last season Roberto Mancini's City were the most miserly team arou ...
"The players that score the goals are players that I bought - Sergio Aguero, Edin Dzeko, Yaya Toure, David Silva and Samir Nasri."
A rampant Manchester City thrashed Tottenham to reassert their title credentials and move six points behind Premier League leaders Arsenal. The hosts went ahead after 14 seconds when a poor Hugo Lloris clearance led to Jesus Navas brilliantly chipping in. Alvaro Negredo's shot went in off Sandro and Aguero turned in a low cross as City went 3-0 up before the break. Aguero again slotted in before Negredo's 18-yard strike and a side-footed Navas shot completed the rout.   City have struggled on their travels this season but at home they have been an irresistible force and they were once again in sublime form at the Etihad, where they have a 100% record in the present campaign with six wins from as many games. The movement and ruthlessness of Sergio Aguero, the invention of Samir Nasri, the midfield power of Yaya Toure and pace of Navas was too much for a shell-shocked Spurs as they suffered their biggest league defeat since losing 6-1 to Chelsea in December 1997.
**Morning gist** Alvaro Negredo's hat-trick ensured Manchester City moved into the Champions League knockout phase for the first time with a comfortable win over CSKA Moscow. Sergio Aguero was the initial inspiration, scoring two and setting up another for Negredo as City scored three times inside the first half-hour to make it a straightforward night for Manuel Pellegrini's side. Having already secured a victory in Moscow, City knew they would be able to progress into the last 16 at the third time of asking if they won again and Viktoria Plzen failed to beat holders Bayern Munich. Aguero's early penalty was followed by a cool finish before a cross for strike partner Negredo effectively ended the contest. Seydou Doumbia did pull a goal back for CSKA before the interval but the outstanding Samir Nasri set up Negredo's second just after half-time to restore City's three-goal advantage. Doumbia beat City keeper Costel Pantilimon, once again chosen ahead of England keeper Joe Hart, from the spot for his secon ...
Manchester City 5 CSKA Moscow 2: match report Beautiful partnership: Álvaro Negredo (left) and Sergio Agüero both scored twice in Manchester City's defeat of CSKA Photo: AP By Henry Winter, Etihad Stadium9:40PM GMT 05 Nov 2013 CommentsComment Manchester City progressed to the knock-out stages of the Champions League for the first time thanks to their brilliant strike-force. Sergio Aguero scored the first two, then Alvaro Negredo swept in a hat-trick and the only disappointing, concerning element on the night were some defensive lapses. City’s attackers were magnificent. Negredo was named man of the match, having scored two tap-ins and then a late header, and others pushed him close. Having converted an early penalty, Aguero’s turn for his second and City’s goal was worth the admission fee alone, a celebration of penalty-box cunning and special technique. Samir Nasri delivered one of his best performances for City, hounding CSKA defenders and creating havoc in the visitors’ defence. David Silva a ...

Second goal from Sergio Aguero. Assisted by Samir Nasri. Persie who?
Superb. Just superb from Sergio Aguero as he strokes in his second of the night! Samir Nasri pops the pass into the Argentine inside the penalty area, his first touch is immense to leave a defender in his wake, and he then steers a shot into the corner with the aid of a slight deflection.
Samir Nasri and Sergio Aguero tonight are absolutely ballin'
By Tom Maston It may not help heal the wounds of Stamford Bridge six days ago, but the way in which Manchester City dismantled Norwich was a delight to watch. Samir Nasri, Sergio Aguero and David Silva were all at their best while for Costel Pantilimon is was as easy a league debut as you would want. Questions must be asked of Chris Hughton, however, whose job at Carrow Road is coming under increasing pressure. No matter what the opposition, conceding 11 times in two trips to Manchester within five days is inexcusable. Yaya Toure, Sergio Aguero and Edin Dzeko added goals five, six and seven after the break as the match lived up to its goal-rich reputation, with 25 having been scored in the previous four top-flight meetings between the two sides. In addition to the change in goalkeeper, Negredo replaced Javi Garcia in the only other alteration to the City side that started a 2-1 defeat at Chelsea last Sunday. Chris Hughton also made a double change to his Norwich side from last weekend’s goalless draw wi ...

Manchester City 7-0 Norwich City Manchester City produced a footballing master-class as they thrashed hapless Norwich City 7-0 at the Etihad Stadium. Manchester City 7-0 Norwich City The result leaves the Canaries entrenched in the relegation zone while Manuel Pellegrini's rampant team are back in the top four. After the outstanding Samir Nasri's left-footed shot had hit the outside of John Ruddy's post, Manchester City took the lead in the 16th minute when Sergio Aguero's effort was deflected into the net by the unfortunate Bradley Johnson. Four minutes later Nasri and Aguero created the opening for David Silva to double the home team's lead and, in the 25th minute, it was 3-0 when Matija Nastasic's header was deflected past Ruddy. Pellegrini's side then scored their fourth goal in just 20 minutes when Alvaro Negredo tapped the ball home after a brilliantly incisive move. On the hour mark Yaya Toure fired a superb free-kick home as the Canaries defence was breached again and, in the 71st minute, a dreadf ...
The Spaniard was superb as Manchester City picked up a crucial 2-1 win at CSKA Moscow on Wednesday night and the success put Manuel Pellegrini's side back on track for qualifying from UEFA Champions League Group D. Sadly, the game was marred by racist chanting from the stands but, on the field, Silva was the star man. Sergio Aguero may have scored twice to help City comeback from Zoran Tosic's opener on a much-talked-about difficult pitch in Moscow, however, it was impossible to ignore Silva. He seems to be back to his wizardry performances of City's Premier League-winning campaign of 2011/12. CSKA Moscow v Manchester City starting line-ups Selection Boss Pellegrini made three changes for the crucial game in Russia as City aimed to respond to their humiliation at the hands of Bayern Munich on Matchday Two. Full-backs Pablo Zabaleta and Aleksandar Kolarov replaced Micah Richards and Gael Clichy while Jesus Navas returned at the expense of Samir Nasri. That meant strikers Aguero and Alvaro Negredo again led ...

Nightmare derby for United as City cruise 22 September By SAPA-AFP London – Manchester City thrashed Manchester United 4-1 in an extraordinary derby match as Arsenal went top of the Premier League on Sunday. In what was a first Manchester derby for both City manager Manuel Pellegrini and United counterpart David Moyes, Sergio Aguero scored twice at Eastlands with Yaya Toure and Samir Nasri also on target for the hosts. The first match between the two clubs since Alex Ferguson retired as manager of English champions United at the end of last season saw Aguero open the scoring in the 16th minute when he flicked in Aleksandar Kolarov's cross despite the ball being behind him. Toure made it 2-0 on the stroke of half-time when he turned in Alvaro Negredo's header from a corner. Whatever Moyes said at the interval to a United team missing injured striker Robin Van Persie had little effect as within five minutes of the re-start City were 4-0 up. Negredo saw his lofted cross to the far post volleyed in by the u ...
Soccer was good! Can't believe saw Samir Nasri and Sergio Aguero!!!
Samir Nasri netted twice as Manchester City beat Chelsea 5-3 in the second match of the English clubs' end-of-season trip to the United States. Gareth Barry, James Milner and Edin Dzeko were also on the scoresheet as the Citizens followed up their victory in St Louis earlier in the week - when they fought back from 3-0 down to win 4-3 - with another thrilling triumph on Saturday evening in New York. The Light Blues were ahead inside five minutes. Oscar gave the ball away to Sergio Aguero whose strike was blocked by keeper Hilario but only as far as Barry who tapped the ball home from close range. City got their second on 29 when James Milner fed Nasri who lobbed Hilario before the match at the Yankees Stadium yielded six more goals after the break. Ramires pulled a goal back for the Dark Blues at the start of the second half after latching on to a long ball from David Luiz. Shortly afterwards Ramires came close to grabbing a second for Chelsea when his deflected effort was cleared off the line by Milner w ...
Manchester City pitched it just right again as their bid to win over the Big Apple continued at the home of the Yankees. In a week when they announced the formation of MLS club New York City FC, the Sky Blues could not quite make it ‘Six in the City’ against Chelsea. But they wowed a crowd of almost 40,000 by rattling in five goals with Samir Nasri scoring the pick of them with a classy double. A Chelsea team without their England stars could not get past first base each time they threatened a comeback and Rafa Benitez’s eventful spell in charge ended with a defeat. Football fans in the States probably thought Thursday’s seven-goal thriller in St Louis could not be topped but this was wide open right from the first whistle. Oscar was day-dreaming as he sent a back pass straight to the feet of Sergio Aguero — who hours earlier had signed a one-year extension to his City contract. The Argentine’s shot was saved by stand-in keeper Hilario but only to the feet of Gareth Barry who tapped in the reb ...

English Premier League Manchester City 3 (Zabaleta 43, Dzeko 56, Aguero pen 74) Stoke City 0 -By Tom Adams {EUROSPORT} 01-01-2013 Manchester City remain seven points behind leaders Manchester United after a comfortable 3-0 victory over Stoke City at the Etihad Stadium. Close-range finishes from Pablo Zabaleta and Edin Dzeko put City in firm control before Sergio Aguero completed the scoring with a penalty that was awarded despite Steven Nzonzi fouling David Silva outside the box after 73 minutes. However, Roberto Mancini's side lost the game's outstanding attacker, Aguero, to what appeared to be a hamstring injury, taking the shine off a fourth win in five games that keeps them in touch with their local rivals. Ryan Shawcross returned from suspension to strengthen the Premier League's meanest defence. For Manchester City, meanwhile, Samir Nasri started a three-game ban and was replaced by James Milner, with Joleon Lescott also in for Matija Nastasic. Dzeko retained his place after scoring twice against No ...
IT WAS not scoring goals that was the problem this time — it was stopping them. Edin Dzeko’s brace, one from Sergio Aguero and a harsh own-goal by Norwich keeper Mark Bunn earned Roberto Mancini’s Manchester City a deserved win. But they were made to sweat after some dodgy defending and a stupid head-butt from Samir Nasri saw the midfielder sent off at Carrow Road. After City’s shock 1-0 defeat at Sunderland on Boxing Day, the last thing they needed smack-bang in the middle of the festive fixture list was a tricky trip to Norwich. The Canaries had already seen off Manchester United and Arsenal at Carrow Road and clearly fancied another big scalp here. And they had reason to be optimistic too, given Mancini’s side’s recent poor form which has seen rivals United open up a seven-point lead at the top of the table. Part of City’s problem this season has been the inability of their strikers to rediscover the devastating form that helped them net their first Premier League title in May. Of their f ...
EPL SATURDAY ROUND UP ARSENAL beat Newcastle 7v 3,Walcott make a case Plus Manchester clubs battle to victory Hard-fought wins for Manchester United and Manchester City maintained the status quo at the top of the Premier League table on Saturday, as Tottenham rose to third thanks to a come-from-behind win against Sunderland. Elsewhere, Aston Villa dropped to within one place of the relegation zone after a third successive heavy defeat, this time at the hands of fellow strugglers Wigan, while 10-man Stoke City grabbed a late draw with Southampton, Fulham succumbed to Swansea and Reading picked up a hard-fought win against West Ham. A classy finish from Sergio Aguero settled Manchester City's nerves against Norwich City, as Edin Dzeko scored twice and was instrumental in a third to help City secure a 4-3 win despite seeing Samir Nasri sent off towards the end of the first half at Carrow Road. Dzeko - handed a rare start by Roberto Mancini - rewarded his manager for the selection with two goals in the openin ...
Norwich City 3-4 Manchester City: Dzeko double enough for champions in end-of-year *** Roberto Mancini's side pick up the three points despite making the match a lot tougher than it needed to be, with Samir Nasri receiving a straight red card Manchester City have ended 2012 with three points after narrowly beating Norwich City 4-3 at Carrow Road in a fantastically entertaining encounter. City raced into a two-goal lead thanks to two Edin Dzeko goals, but Anthony Pilkington pulled one back before Sergio Aguero got the Blues’ third before half-time. Samir Nasri received a straight red card and Russell Martin got Norwich’s second, and later got a second of his own after Mark Bunn put the ball into his own goal and City got the three points. Despite losing to Chelsea last time out, Norwich fielded a very similar team as their only change saw the much-maligned Steve Morison started in place of Grant Holt, who picked up a late injury. Roberto Mancini, however, was understandably annoyed with his side’ ...
FOOTBALL- Newcastle 1-3 Manchester City: Yaya Toure seals victory to quell Toon fightback: Manchester City boosted their title credentials with a somewhat fortunate 3-1 victory over a struggling Newcastleside at St James’ Park. After dominating the early stages of the match, the Magpies’ defence capitulated for the rest of the first half as City’s attacking players came to life. And the visitors eventually took the lead after some clever play between Yaya Toure and Samir Nasri left Sergio Aguero with a tap-in. The champions found a second courtesy of a Javi Garcia header, but Alan Pardew’s men fought hard in the second period, and soon clawed one back through a Demba Ba header. The hosts pushed for an equaliser, but Yaya Toure sealed three points for the visitors with a goal against the run of play. Pardew was forced to change shape from the side that faced Fulham last weekend, as James Perch stepped in for the injured Hatem Ben Arfa allowing Papiss Cisse to revert to a more familiar role partner ...

Manchester City midfielder Samir Nasri looks set to miss Sunday's Premier League match with former club Arsenal. Nasri strained his hamstring during the 3-2 Champions League defeat at Real Madrid, but forwards Sergio Aguero and Mario Balotelli are available. Arsenal goalkeeper Wojciech Szczesny is again sidelined by an ankle injury so Vito Mannone will continue in goal. The game will come too soon for Jack Wilshere and Emmanuel Frimpong, who are back in training after long lay-offs. Nasri, who moved from Arsenal to City Last Summer in a £25m deal, is not expected to be sidelined for long. City manager Roberto Mancini said: "I do not think he will be ready for Sunday. We will try but it is difficult. I hope he will be okay for next week."

Manchester City began the new Premier League season the way they ended the last, coming back from 2-1 down at home to record a 3-2 victory, this time over Southampton. - Jolly: City win at a cost - Mancini on Aguero - Team of the Week - Photo gallery - Sat: Nightmare for Rodgers City dominated the opening period and, after David Silva had missed a penalty, eventually got their reward when Carlos Tevez beat Kelvin Davis at his near post, having been played in by Samir Nasri. There was some bad news for Roberto Mancini's men, however, as Sergio Aguero was stretchered off with a knee problem. The hosts wasted a glut of chances at the beginning of the second half, and were punished when substitute Rickie Lambert equalised with a composed first-time strike. Southampton went into dreamland shortly afterwards when, following a mistake from City debutant Jack Rodwell, Steven Davis found the net at the end of a counter- attack. But City, who left it so late before beating QPR 3-2 to take the Premier League title ...

Manchester City have taken a huge step towards winning the Premier League title with a 2-0 victory at Newcastle United. - Palmer: Spurs fail to seize chance - Arsenal 3-3 Norwich City Yaya Toure's brace saw City defeat Champions League-chasing Newcastle - a result that, in the opinion of both Roberto Mancini and Sir Alex Ferguson ahead of the match, would be decisive in the title race. After a goalless first-half, Mancini brought on Nigel de Jong on for Samir Nasri, allowing Toure to move into a more advanced role. It proved to be a masterstroke, as the Ivorian played a one-two with Sergio Aguero before curling a first-time strike past a diving Krul. Sergio Aguero missed a gilt-edged opportunity to put the result beyond Newcastle after being released by David Silva, and Toure then missed two chances to double his goal tally - his glancing header flashing wide before slipping when one-on-one with Tim Krul. However, he sealed the win two minutes from time with a cool finish. The result saw City move three p ...
