Joe Hart due to sign new Manchester City contract Richard Jolly December 5, 2014 MANCHESTER -- Joe Hart is set to sign a new contract with Manchester City imminently. The goalkeeper, whose current deal expires in 2016, has been in talks with the Premier League champions for several months about an extension. And manager Manuel Pellegrini confirmed he expects the 27-year-old to give the club a boost by putting pen to paper soon. "I always said it is important for this club to keep Joe with us," Pellegrini said in a news conference. "He is a very good goalkeeper and not only a very good goalkeeper, he is a very important player for the squad also, so maybe in the next days you will have good news." Hart will become the seventh City player to sign a contract extension this year after Aleksandar Kolarov, Samir Nasri, Vincent Kompany, David Silva, Sergio Aguero and Edin Dzeko. The former Birmingham loanee has made 275 appearances for City since his arrival from Shrewsbury in 2006. Pellegrini dropped Hart for a ...
Black Friday was turned inky blue for one City super fan - after Sergio Aguero autographed his back so it could be turned into a tatoo. Alan Smith, 55, already has six tributes to his club emblazoned across his body, including a full back celebration of City’s 3-2 win against Queen Park Rangers in May 2012 - the result which gave the club its first Premier League title. The body art is topped by the City badge, complete with the Latin slogan ‘Superbia In Proelia’ - or ‘Pride in Battle’. It also features portraits of Aguero, skipper Vincent Kompany, ex-manager Roberto Mancini and keeper Joe Hart. So after the striker’s book signing became an impromptu back signing, Alan high-tailed it to the tattoo parlour - and Aguero’s name has been freshly tattooed alongside his famous face.
Louis Van Gaal slammed Chris Smalling and labelled him "stupid" after he was given a red card for two bookable offences in the first half of Manchester United's1-0 defeat to Manchester City. The England international, who started the game at centre-back, picked up his first caution for needlessly charging down Joe Hart's goal-kick before hacking down James Milner before half-time. That meant United had to play the remaining 52 minutes with 10 men and a makeshift back four of Antonio Valencia, Michael Carrick, Paddy McNair and Luke Shaw after Marcus Rojo also exited the game after dislocating his shoulder. Sergio Aguero ultimately made the extra man count by firing home a 63rd minute winner for City, though United did at least display an admirable spirit in the second period and could even have snatched a point, with Robin Van Persie, Angel Di Maria and Fellaini all going close. After the game, Van Gaal spoke of his anger at Smalling and said the defender was guilty of failing to control his aggression, wh ...
'Stupid' Smalling cost United - Van Gaal Manchester United manager Louis Van Gaal said that Chris Smalling's "stupid" dismissal had fatally undermined his side's chances in their 1-0 Premier League defeat at Manchester City on Sunday. Van Gaal: Manchester Derby is “biggest” he’ll manage; Rooney in, Falcao out NBC Sports Smalling was sent off in the 38th minute at the Etihad Stadium after receiving quick-fire yellow cards for trying to block a clearance by City goalkeeper Joe Hart and then scything down James Milner. City eventually prevailed through a 63rd-minute Sergio Aguero strike, leaving the champions six points behind leaders Chelsea and seven points above United, and Van Gaal said Smalling's red card was the turning point. "In the derby you have to be careful. The second yellow card was stupid," he told BBC Sport. "As a player you have to control your aggression. I didn't see the first yellow, but the second you know as a player you have a yellow, so you have to handle it differently. I said ...

CITY HOLD ARSENAL IN 2-2 THRILLER Martin Demichelis headed a late equaliser as Manchester City drew 2-2 with potential title rivals Arsenal in a pulsating encounter at Emirates Stadium. City had taken a first-half lead through Sergio Aguero, only for Arsenal to respond with fine goals from Jack Wilshere and Alexis Sanchez before veteran defender Demichelis earned the Premier League champions a point. Danny Welbeck was presented with an early chance to vindicate his selection as Arsenal’s main striker when he seized on David Silva’s poor pass, but the deadline day signing’s dink over Joe Hart came back off the post. Arsenal were in the ascendancy in the first half, but were rocked on their heels on 28 minutes when City broke with pace and Jesus Navas’ excellent low ball into the box was cleverly finished by Aguero. The home side levelled on 63 minutes when Aaron Ramsey played in Wilshere, who skipped past former team-mate Gael Clichy before lifting a delightful shot over Joe Hart into the net. Wils ...
Stoke City registered their first Premier League victory in Manchester as Mame Biram Diouf's fine solo effort stunned the champions. Man City 0-1 Stoke Diouf 58′ The Senegal international and former United striker raced 70 yards before slotting under Joe Hart. The hosts could have had a late penalty but Yaya Toure was booked for diving. Stoke had lost all 12 previous league matches at the Etihad Stadium and Old Trafford and manager Mark Hughes will savour this victory at his former club. The odds were stacked against the visitors who had not even scored at Manchester City in the Premier League By contrast, Manuel Pellegrini's men had failed to hit the net in just one of their last 70 home matches and the Chilean started with Sergio Aguero, who had taken just 23 seconds to score off the bench against Liverpool, up front. The Potters had failed to keep a clean sheet in their last 12 league matches but a resolute performance from Hughes's side saw them do just that and Diouf's second-half strike capped a . ...

Joe Hart believes Premier League champions Manchester City have now established themselves as one of English football's superpowers. Sheikh Mansour's takeover in 2008 heralded a new era at the club, with global stars such as Sergio Aguero, Yaya Toure and David Silva being brought to the Etihad Stadium. And City's haul of two Premier League titles, the FA Cup and the Capital One Cup in the last three years is evidence for Hart that they are now among the country's footballing elite.

Joe Hart has rubbished suggestions that winning the 2011/12 Premier League title gives Man City the edge over rivals. With just a month left in this season’s title race, it looks like being one of the closest finishes yet with Man City, Liverpool and Chelsea all eyeing up the prize come May. While Chelsea have been accustomed to fighting for domestic dominance since the arrival of Roman Abramovich, Liverpool are relatively new to the experience having finished seventh last season. As for Man City, they can harp back to memories of two seasons ago when they snatched the title out of arch rivals Manchester United’s hands on goal difference thanks to a last-gasp Sergio Aguero strike against QPR on the final day. But with this campaign fast becoming a three-horse race with an extra team thrown into the mix, England goalkeeper Hart is adamant City’s maiden Premier League success and the pressures it put them through will have no bearing on the destination of the title this season. “I have been lucky th ...

GO BARCA GO Manchester City 0-2 Barcelona Last updated 19-Lab-2014 1:13 sn. GMT+3 Manuel Pellegrini criticises referee Eriksson By Phil McNulty Chief football writer at Etihad Stadium Manchester City's Champions League ambitions look all but extinguished after Lionel Messi and Dani Alves gave Barcelona victory in the last-16 first leg at Etihad Stadium. Messi broke the deadlock from the spot in the 54th minute after he was fouled by City defender Martin Demichelis, who was also sent off for a challenge that was initially made outside the penalty area. And despite a defiant response from Manuel Pellegrini's side, Alves delivered what is surely the decisive blow when he exchanged passes with Neymar before sliding a cool finish under City keeper Joe Hart in the final minute. City's supporters applauded their side's efforts at the final whistle but the subdued atmosphere around the ground moments later reflected the brutal reality that the task of recovering this tie is surely beyond them in the second leg at ...
Same with Manchester City I love Joe Hart and Sergio Aguero but I hate Edin Dzeko, yet they're my favorite team
Pellegrini feels frustration Manchester City boss Manuel Pellegrini felt the 1-0 home defeat to Chelsea was a frustrating match of missed chances. City had 25 shots in Monday night’s Etihad Stadium showdown against their title rivals, but only managed to get three on target in the 90 minutes. The visitors were more dangerous, with a third of their 18 shots testing Joe Hart in the City goal and a further three hitting the woodwork. Even then, City had chances to *** an equaliser at the death as David Silva and Stevan Jovetic both came close to finding a way past Petr Cech. Pellegrini pointed towards the absence of two of his key players – Sergio Aguero and Fernandinho – both of whom were sidelined through injury. “We had clear chances to score at least two goals but didn’t do it, and they had two or three shots against the post,” the Chilean told Sky Sports. “It was a very close game to play against Chelsea without (Sergio) Aguero and Fernandinho. “It’s important to note that we were m .. ...

**Morning gist** Alvaro Negredo's hat-trick ensured Manchester City moved into the Champions League knockout phase for the first time with a comfortable win over CSKA Moscow. Sergio Aguero was the initial inspiration, scoring two and setting up another for Negredo as City scored three times inside the first half-hour to make it a straightforward night for Manuel Pellegrini's side. Having already secured a victory in Moscow, City knew they would be able to progress into the last 16 at the third time of asking if they won again and Viktoria Plzen failed to beat holders Bayern Munich. Aguero's early penalty was followed by a cool finish before a cross for strike partner Negredo effectively ended the contest. Seydou Doumbia did pull a goal back for CSKA before the interval but the outstanding Samir Nasri set up Negredo's second just after half-time to restore City's three-goal advantage. Doumbia beat City keeper Costel Pantilimon, once again chosen ahead of England keeper Joe Hart, from the spot for his secon ...
City boss Manuel Pellegrini opted to hand the goalkeeping duties to Costel Pantilimon following Joe Hart's error against Chelsea last weekend, but the Romanian had had little to do at the Etihad Stadium as a Bradley Johnson own goal and strikes from David Silva, Matija Nastasic and Alvaro Negredo put the hosts four goals to the good at half-time. Sergio Aguero, Yaya Toure and Edin Dzeko completed the rout after the break to increase the pressure on Canaries boss Chris Hughton. Manchester United also enjoyed a comfortable win as they secured a 3-1 triumph over Fulham at Craven Cottage which did little to boost Martin Jol's long-term job prospects. United led 3-0 inside 23 minutes as Antonio Valencia, Robin Van Persie and Wayne Rooney all got on the scoresheet for the defending Premier League champions, before Alex Kacaniklic got a consolation for the hosts. Asmir Begovic became the fifth goalkeeper to score in the Premier League with a remarkable long-range goal, but it was not enough to give Stoke victory ...
Chelsea manager Jose Mourinho admits he has been surprised by Fernando Torres since he returned to Stamford Bridge as the striker continued his revival with the winner against Manchester City. The 29-year-old, who scored twice in the midweek Champions League win against Schalke, took advantage of a defensive mix-up in injury time to give Chelsea a 2-1 win. Mourinho said: "I have had a big surprise with Fernando from day one with the way he works. He has worked so much from the first day." He added: "Sometimes I have put him on the bench, sometimes he has not been selected, sometimes I have left him at home - but every day he has been the same. He has worked very hard." Torres tally Fernando Torres now has more Premier League assists (12) for Chelsea than he managed for Liverpool (2007-2011) City looked on course for a point when Sergio Aguero equalised after Andre Schurrle put Chelsea ahead - but confusion between goalkeeper Joe Hart and defender Matija Nastasic allowed Torres to pounce for the winner. Torres: That win was better because it was City (but Pellegrini says the result was 'one of his worst') Chelsea striker Fernando Torres admitted victory over Manchester City tasted sweeter after he capitalised on a late defensive blunder to secure a 2-1 win at Stamford Bridge. Torres was left with a simple finish following a miscommunication between Matija Nastasic and Joe Hart, which saw the defender head the ball beyond his goalkeeper. 'When you win a game like this against a great team like Manchester City in the last minutes of the game it feels much better,' Torres told Sky Sports 1. 'I think 1-1 was not right for the game. I think we controlled most of the game and we had more chances in the first half. 'At end we won a game we decided to win. We are happy because it is our first win against a contender for the Premier League.' A rejuvenated Torres set up Andre Schurrle's opener but Sergio Aguero cancelled that out with a stunning strike shortly after. But the game was settled on City's defensive ca ...
Chelsea Player Ratings against ManCity Jose Mourinho's team climbed to second in the table after Fernando Torres seized upon Joe Hart's error to score a late winner, cancelling out Sergio Aguero's equaliser Petr Cech Was guilty of being far too causal for Aguero's rocket goal but made fine near-post saves from both the striker and Silva. Branislav Ivanovic Was combative, diligent and influential at set pieces in both boxes. Did get troubled by Silva's cunning but kept his head above water. Ashley Cole In his first start for three weeks, the England defender kept both Nasri and Navas quiet but offered little threat going forward. Gary Cahill Showed unquestioned commitment but struggled to cope with the movement and cunning of Aguero and Silva. Unable to close the angle for the equaliser. A well deserved victory... LONDON (AP) Fernando Torres capped off an impressive attacking display for Chelsea by seizing on Manchester City's defensive blunder in the 90th minute to clinch a 2-1 victory in the Premier League on Sunday. After Chelsea substitute Willian launched the ball forward, City goalkeeper Joe Hart found himself exposed on the edge of the penalty area and defender Matija Nastasic managed to head the ball over his own goalkeeper. In a run that encapsulated his energetic performance at Stamford Bridge, Torres raced onto the loose ball and sent it into the unguarded net. The second half had begun badly for Chelsea when Sergio Aguero canceled out Andre Schurrle's opener, which had been set up by Torres. But Torres' late winner ensured Chelsea ended the weekend still two points behind leader Arsenal. City dropped to seventh. Courtesy of ScoreMobile FC (
FINAL WHISTLE VERDICT: A GREAT MOMENT Posted on: Sun 27 Oct 2013 After watching his side pass arguably our biggest test of the season to date, Jose Mourinho was understandably a very happy man. Fernando Torres's last-gasp winner sealed a 2-1 victory over Manchester City at Stamford Bridge, and though there were times when we lived dangerously, it was a thoroughly deserved three points for the Blues, and a result which takes us above Liverpool into second place, only two points behind leaders Arsenal. Andre Schurrle had broken the deadlock in the 32nd minute, scoring from close range after being teed up by Torres, who went close moments later himself with a stunning strike which crashed against the bar. Manuel Pellegrini's side equalised, however, three minutes into the second half when Sergio Aguero scored from the tightest of angles, and with the game seemingly heading for a draw, up popped Torres with the decisive strike, his third in a week, leaving Mourinho reflecting on a job well done. 'First of all ...
Sergio Aguero scored twice as Manchester City came from behind to beat CSKA Moscow and reignite their Champions League Group D campaign. Manuel Pellegrini had complained about the pitch at the Khimki Arena, and the City boss must have feared the worst when Zoran Tosic put the hosts ahead. The former Manchester United player lobbed Joe Hart before Aguero levelled after David Silva's cross. Aguero capped a gutsy City display by heading home Alvaro Negredo's cross. It was far from comfortable for Pellegrini and his players, who were forced to endure some anxious moments against the Russian champions to record their second away win of the group stage. Play media Pellegrini condemns racist chants Indeed City goalkeeper Hart had to produce a fine stop with an outstretched leg to deny Japan international Keisuke Honda an equaliser deep into stoppage time. But victory over CSKA in the return game at the Etihad Stadium on 5 November ought to allow City to start planning for the knockout stages for the first time. ...
Manchester City 3-1 Everton Manchester City ended Everton's unbeaten record in the Barclays Premier League to finish a difficult week on a high. Defeats by Aston Villa and Bayern Munich had made this a very important game for City and under-pressure goalkeeper Joe Hart, and they responded in style with a 3-1 win at the Etihad Stadium. Romelu Lukaku put Everton ahead in the 16th minute but Alvaro Negredo equalised a minute later and Sergio Aguero struck to give the hosts the lead just before half-time. The unlucky Tim Howard then diverted in a third in the 69th minute after initially saving Aguero's penalty. The victory was only City's third in 13 attempts against Everton, who tasted defeat for the first time in the league under Roberto Martinez. Shuvam
Manchester City boss Manuel Pellegrini defended his line-up after their derby thumping of Manchester United. City started the game with ten foreign outfield players. "There is room for English players in the team," claimed Pellegrini after strikes from Sergio Aguero (2), Yaya Toure and Samir Nasri blew United away. "We have four or five English players and I hope Micah Richards will play in the Capital One Cup," he added. "Milner usually plays, we have Joe Hart, and we also have Jack Rodwell and Joleon Lescott."
Stoke City Football Club 0-0 Manchester City FC - Official Stoke City and Manchester City both left the Britannia Stadium frustrated as they battled out a 0-0 draw in the Barclays Premier League. The hosts had the better of the chances but their finishing lacked accuracy. Kenwyne Jones was guilty of missing three good opportunities, and when he did manage to get an effort on target, he found Joe Hart in good form. Manchester City struggled to get going throughout the match and, despite introducing Sergio Aguero and Jesus Navas after the break, failed to test properly Asmir Begovic in the Stoke goal. Manuel Pellegrini made six changes from the side who beat Hull City before the international break, with Stevan Jovetic starting for the first time, the Montenegrin lining up in support of Alvaro Negredo in attack. The hosts were unchanged from their away victory at West Ham United, meaning Jones was again preferred as the lone striker ahead of Peter Crouch. Manchester City had a lot of the early possession bu ...
n the 21 years of the Premier League, there have been many great players. These players are replaced in time - for every Cantona there is an Henry, and for every Ginola there is a Ronaldo. English football has been graced by some true greats of the modern game, none more so than in the past decade. In that time, there have been some truly breathtaking moments - from Arsenal's 2003/04 'Invincibles', to Sergio Aguero's last-minute winner. In the last 10 seasons, there have been four title-winning clubs. Arsenal and Manchester City both won it once, Chelsea won it three times, with Manchester United winning the Premier League five times. Great players create great moments, so what makes a great player? Is it goals? In the past decade, winners of the Premier League's Golden Boot (awarded to the top scorer) includes Thierry Henry, Cristiano Ronaldo and Robin Van Persie. Is it clean sheets? Winners of the Premier League's Golden Glove in the last 10 years include Pepe Reina, Petr Cech and Joe Hart. So without f ...
Joe Hart returns in goal for Manchester City at the expense of Costel Pantilimon as the Citizens look to get past underdogs Wigan Athletic to win the FA Cup Final. Carlos Tevez starts up front for City, with Samir Nasri, Sergio Aguero and David Silva making up the trio of attackers behind him. Wigan, meanwhile, continue with Roger Espinoza, who scored a great volley in his last outing, at left-back, with Callum McManaman in the front three alone with Arouna Kona and Shaun Maloney. Surprisingly, there is also a place for Manchester United loanee Angelo Henriquez on the bench
Ok guys and gals here is the 3rd and final part of my season review. hope you enjoy. LFC 24/7 News 2012/13 Season Review Part 3: FEBRUARY... The month would start with a trip to the Emirates and reigning Premier League champions Man City. We'd shown earlier in the season that we were more than a match for them. After going 1-0 down to an Edin Dzeko strike in the 23rd minute we turned the game on its head. A stunning left foot strike from the edge of the box from new boy Sturridge against the club where he started his career. As you would expect the celebration was minimal. 1-1 at half time. We came out 2nd half and took control of the game and in the 73rd minute Captain Liverpool himself, Steven Gerrard, Hit a stunning 30 yard strike past a flailing Joe Hart. But that lead lasted only 6 minutes, as a long ball into the right corner caused a mix up between Martin Skrtel and an out rushing Pepe Reina. And Sergio Aguero fried a shot right footed, from the most ridiculous of angles and it dropped in just insi ...
Manchester City prevail in seven-goal thriller. Manchester City have fought back from three goals down to defeat Chelsea 4-3 in their friendly in St Louis. A brace by Edin Dzeko helped City get back on track before Micah Richards struck deep in injury time to seal a thrilling win in front of 46,000 fans. City made the stronger start but it was Chelsea who took the lead against the run of play through Demba Ba. The Senegal striker headed home Juan Mata's teasing cross gave Chelsea the lead in the 18th minute. Sergio Aguero nearly got his team back on level terms just five minutes later, but his curling effort came back off the post. The Blues were then handed the chance to double their advantage on the stroke of half time when Karim Rekik brought down Mata inside the area, forcing the referee to point to the spot. Cesar Azpilicueta stepped up to take it, confidently dispatching the kick beyond a despairing Joe Hart. The teams were slow to get going after the restart, but the game reignited in the 55th minu ...

A Carlos Tevez-inspired City are back at Wembley after ruthlessly casting aside Barnsley in a one-sided FA Cup quarter-final at the Etihad Stadium. The brilliant Tevez scored a hat-trick and set up goals for Aleks Kolarov and David Silva in the 5-0 win as the Blues booked their place in the semi-final in emphatic style. On this evidence, nobody will want to draw the Premier League champions - who are still yet to concede a goal in the competition so far - in tomorrow’s draw. Roberto Mancini took the opportunity to rest a number of key personnel for the visit of the Tykes. With Vincent Kompany, Jack Rodwell and Sergio Aguero still side-lined with injury, Javi Garcia, Gael Clichy, Matija Nastasic, Joe Hart and James Milner were all relegated to the bench.
Manchester - Manchester City galvanised their grip on second place in the English Premier League and trimmed Manchester United's lead back to 12 points with a 2-0 victory at home to nearest rivals Chelsea on Sunday. After Chelsea's Frank Lampard had seen a penalty saved by England colleague Joe Hart, City prevailed through a pair of fine second-half goals from man-of-the-match Yaya Toure and substitute Carlos Tevez. Although City's chances of retaining their league title remain decidedly slender, they now have a seven-point advantage over Chelsea, who could slip to fourth if Tottenham Hotspur overcome West Ham United on Monday. Both City manager Roberto Mancini and his Chelsea counterpart Rafael Benitez flooded their sides with midfielders at the Etihad Stadium, while Benitez opted to leave John Terry and Fernando Torres on thebench. City deployed Sergio Aguero as a lone striker and although he had to plough a lone furrow, it was the hosts who dominated the firsthalf. Visiting goalkeeper Petr Cech had to ...
Superb second-half goals from Yaya Toure and Carlos Tevez helped Manchester City to a hard-fought win over Chelsea and reduced the gap to Manchester United at the top of the Premier League to 12 points. City were rewarded for a more attacking approach in the second period, after a first half in which they missed countless chances, Jack Rodwell and Sergio Aguero both going close to scoring for the hosts. They had almost paid for their wastefulness when Frank Lampard had a glorious opportunity to register his 200th Chelsea goal, but his penalty was saved by Joe Hart seven minutes after the break. Eleven minutes later City were finally in front when Yaya Toure kept his composure in the box to steer an angled shot into the bottom corner from 10 yards. They play at opposite ends of the pitch but Joe Hart and Sergio Aguero are telling the same story ahead of the trip to Norwich. Both are determined that the Blues will bounce back in customary fashion following the 1-0 defeat at Sunderland that left the champions trailing by seven points in the title race and allowed the chasing pack to close. Hart was his usual blunt self after Adam Johnson’s long range effort at the Stadium of Light ruined many a City Christmas. “We weren’t lacking in effort at Sunderland,” he declared. “We gave it everything but couldn’t break through a defensive wall. No-one else needs to know what gets said in the dressing room, it’s down to us to put things right. “We have dominated a lot of games but people play differently against us now as opposed to last season. We have to adjust to that and hopefully the second half of the season will be better for us." -Joe Hart For Aguero it was the first time in more than a dozen Premier League outings he had tasted defeat wh ...

NEW VS CITY: Shola Ameobi - a recent replacement for Papiss Cisse - rises to plant a header on goal from inside the box but it is straight at Joe Hart. Down the other end, Sergio Aguero shoots from range after cutting in from the left but his shot is a foot or so wide. (Adam)
Four people I have met but would love to meet again: Roberto Mancini. Sergio Aguero. David Silva and Joe Hart :-)

Joe Hart produced a goalkeeping masterclass as Mario Balotelli's last-gasp penalty earned Manchester City a fortunate point against Borussia Dortmund. The England international produced a host of breath-taking saves at the Etihad Stadium to keep his side in their Group D contest with the German champions. Hart was only beaten in the 62nd minute when substitute Jack Rodwell's awful blind pass allowed Marco Reus to burst through and fire the Bundesliga side into the lead. City had created plenty of openings in an end-to-end first period, but were second best after the interval and only numerous stops from their No.1 prevented the game being over long before the final whistle. And with time running out, referee Pavel Kralovec handed them a lifeline when he penalised Neven Subotic when Sergio Aguero's shot struck his arm from point-blank range, with Balotelli keeping his cool to send the excellent Roman Weidenfeller the wrong way. The score could easily have been 3-3 at half-time,but was not due to the brilli ...
Manchester City 1-1 Borussia Dortmund: Ice cool Balotelli rescues precious Champions League point for Mancini’s men The Italian substitute and goalkeeper Joe Hart are the heroes for the English champions as they struggle to contain the outstanding Bundesliga holders. For Roberto Mancini, there continues to be no sign of improvement to an increasingly desperate Champions League record. The Italian cut a frustrated figure at Etihad Stadium as Manchester City needed an 89th-minute Mario Balotelli penalty to draw 1-1 against an excellent Borussia Dortmund side.Substitute Balotelli, who had only been on the pitch for eight minutes, stroked home the spot-kick with ice-cool precision after Neven Subotic had been harshly penalised for hand-balling a Sergio Aguero volley. It came after Dortmund had created a glut of excellent opportunities only to be denied by a Joe Hart masterclass in goal. The England No.1 could not prevent Marco Reus giving the visitors the lead after 60 minutes but he was equal to everything ...

Manchester City have copied a well known and proven blueprint for success in England, used in the past by Manchester United and Chelsea: First get a strong spine – a great goalkeeper (Joe Hart), a rock in defence (Vincent Kompany), a midfield general (Yaya Toure) , a player like Carlos Tevez – a determined dribbler , and a talisman (Sergio Aguero). - by Ouriel Daskal (Sport Business Editor)
What a fitting finale to the 2011-12 season of Barclays Premier League... kudos to Manchester City! That is the spirit of being Champions of the world's best league .. Coming back from 1-2 to clinch a goal with the last kick to win the championship deserves credit. It is very different from the manipulative mind games that we have been seeing win trophies for the last 2 decades. Step aside Manchester United! The 'noisy neighbors' have dismantled the abominable gum chewing old hag... Hats off to Roberto Mancini, Vincent Kompany and team (special mention of Ya Ya Toure, Sergio Aguero, Joe Hart and David Silva) ... Welcome to a new Era in football, and more importantly, goodbye to a bygone era of winning through manipulation and bad influence..!
