Last year's Wimbledon was the most unpredictable in memory. Roger Federer, Rafael Nadal and Maria Sharapova - owners of a combined 10 titles at the All England Club - were all gone by the end of the second round. Five-time champion Serena Williams left in the fourth. Add in the record-equaling withdrawals or mid-match retirements because of health problems. And to cap it all, Andy Murray finally gave Britain the men's champion it had wanted for more than three-quarters of a century. What might 2014 have in store? Here are five things to watch at Wimbledon, where play begins Monday: 'MURRESMO': The pairing of Murray and his new coach, Amelie Mauresmo, was quickly dubbed ''Murresmo,'' and their partnership is sure to draw a lot of notice. For one thing, Murray won the grass-court Grand Slam tournament - the first British man in 77 years to do so - with Ivan Lendl in his corner a year ago. For another, it's unusual for a top male tennis player to be coached by a woman. But Murray was coached for years by his ...
So finally we come to end of the month of UPSETs and inconsistencies. Some really good, some really sad but inevitable to accept them. What to comprehend from them lies upon us but these are some of the paradigm shifting events of the month according to me, worth acknowledging: 1. Narendra Modi led NDA winning the General Elections. 2. CSK not playing the finals for just the second time out of the 7 times. 3. Serena Williams and now Roger Federer out of French Open.

Rafael Nadal and Roger Federer easily progressed to the second round each recording straight sets wins. On the women's side Maria Sharapova continued her great form on clay with a 6-1, 6-2 thumping over compatriot Ksenia Pervak. Defending champion Serena Williams also progressed with a win over French youngster Alize Lim. Aussie fans will be pleased as Sam Stosur won her first round clash but Ash Barty and Nick Kyrgios unfortunately bowed out. :)

The French Open always presents a unique test. The second major of the season is the only one contested on clay, which requires a different skill set. It also starts a very busy stretch that continues through Wimbledon and the U.S. Open. Players are focused on setting a positive tone they can build from in the months ahead. Rafael Nadal and Serena Williams were the stars who accomplished that goal last year with triumphs at Roland Garros. It was Nadal's eighth French championship and Williams' second. Both the Spaniard and the American return with hope of defending their titles. There are 127 other players on each side looking to end those dreams. There is no scoreboard, nor officials to call the lines as the country’s best junior boy warms up. Francis Tiafoe, 16, has a full complement of shots and shows tactical savvy beyond his years. “I’m like 35 in tennis years,” he says. “I’ve been on a tennis court all my life.” (Jahi Chikwe ...

Jack’s Tennis Tip – Racket talent or athletic ability? I have a theory that you can put tennis players (any player) into one of two categories. They either fall under the category of 'racket talented' or 'athlete.' I made up this theory quite a while ago but I still think it is valid. There are a few players that confuse me but for the most part I think my theory holds true. Obviously the lines blur in some instances and without a doubt all of the players on the professional tour are racket talented and supremely athletic too, but bear with me; Rafael Nadal - athlete Novak Djokovic - athlete Stanislas Wawrinka - racket talented Juan Martin Del Potro - racket talented David Ferrer - athlete Andy Murray - athlete Tomas Berdych - racket talented Roger Federer - racket talented Richard Gasquet - racket talented Jo-Wilfried Tsonga - athlete Kei Nishikori - racket talented Gael Monfils - athlete Milos Raonic - racket talented John Isner - racket talented Grigor Dimitrov - racket talented Serena Williams - A ...

Serena Williams out, Agnieszka Radwanska out, Roger Federer stay, Wawrinka stay. Women's single done! Hate this.
Enjoying watching Australian Open on tv. So happy Roger Federer is moving like a 21-year-old and smacking his backhand. Only Maria Sharapova and Milos Raonic have fallen off the bandwagon among my faves. Ana Ivanovic played a game as pretty as she is to beat the top-seed, Serena Williams, who looked invincible up to this point. My other fave, Eugenie Bouchard, the 19-year-old Canadian, has just started playing Ivanovic. So confused who to cheer for. Go Ana! Go Genie! And yes, good luck to Stanislas Wawrinka with his match with Djokovic. Keep pounding those radar-sharp backhands!
Sharapova out, Nadal, Murray win Two-time defending champion Victoria Azarenka saw another of her main adversaries crash out of the Australian Open on Monday, while top-ranked Rafael Nadal and Wimbledon champion Andy Murray faced tougher-than-expected matches to advance to the quarterfinals at Melbourne Park. Maria Sharapova joined Serena Williams as fourth-round casualties, leaving Azarenka a potentially easier run to the women’s final, AFP reports. Sharapova was beaten by No. 20 Dominika Cibulkova in the match on Rod Laver Arena immediately before Azarenka defeated Sloane Stephens, the last remaining American in the singles draw. Nadal won three tough sets against Kei Nishikori, while Murray wasted four match points in the third set – including two in the tiebreaker – before dominating the fourth set against lucky loser Stephane Robert of France. Four-time Australian Open champion Roger Federer was never threatened in beating 2008 finalist Jo-Wilfried Tsonga 6-3, 7-5, 6-4 in a late match. He will ...
I'd kill to watch a mixed-doubles match of Serena Williams and Roger Federer v Maria Sharapova and Rafael Nadal.
Richard Gasquet is eliminated in 4-sets by Tommy Robredo, the SAME Man, who eliminated federer in the last year's US Open in straight sets... Well done robredo (Qualifies to the round of 16)! Samantha Sam Stosur is out AS WELL.. but that was a really close one out there though the score was: Ana Ivanovic bt Sam Stosur 6-7 6-2 6-2. As usual, Novak Djokovic bt Denis Istomin in ALMOST straight sets, 6-3 6-3 7-5... Tomas Berdych is also through to the fourth round and so is David Ferrer, and Kei Nishikori. and Yeah, Li Na almost lost. Lucie Safarova had three or four match points in her name, ALL OF WHICH were saved by Li when she was 3-5 down in the second set, all to get the set 7-6(10-8)... thunderous Li. She won the third and final set 6-3. What a Comeback Li in the Melbourne 40+ degree heat! Well PLAYED Lucie Safarova, well there has to be only one winner, Li Na... Serena Williams is also through, with an of course EASY win for her.. Roger Federer in action tomorrow along with Andy Murray, Jo Wilfried T ...
Royce Gracie named greatest athlete of all time Royce Gracie was selected to represent his family's version of Jiu-Jitsu in the first few UFCs because he looked far less athletic than for example his brother Rickson. Rickson too would have beaten everyone at UFC 1, but it would not have had the same effect on the world. When a muscular ferocious fighter wins, the assumption is that he won because he he was ferocious and muscular. When the 170 lb Royce dominated UFC 1, it was clear that there was something world changing in his technique. It was thus ironic that Royce was selected as one of the top 50 greatest athletes of all time. Royce came in at in a field that included Roger Federer, Mia Hamm, Lebron James, Michael Jordan, Mike Tyson, Serena Williams, and Tiger Woods. However, there is more to being a great athlete than being athletic. There is leadership, and heart and courage, and seeing the future and then making it, and in all these regards, Royce is an extraordinary choice. The list was generated ...
Australian Open draw is out and Bernard Tomic must be cursing his luck having drawn top seed Rafael Nadal in the first round. In Form Lleyton Hewitt comes up against 24th seed Andreas Seppi of Italy. World number 12 Sloane Stephens has hired legendary tennis mind Paul Annacone as her new coach. The second highest ranked American tennis star after Serena Williams made the appointment after a 'trial' in Los Angeles last month.Annacone split from Roger Federer after 3 1/2 years together in October and has worked with Tim Henman in the past too. However, he is most famous for being the long-time coach to multiple Grand Slam winner Pete Sampras
So . Just told Ollie I have surprise tickets to return to Pat Rafter Arena today! He jumped on the bed in excitement! Line up today is Sharapova, Serena Williams, Roger Federer (playing doubles) and Leyton Hewitt . Bring it on! :-)

Roger Federer is more loved than Serena Williams: Martina Navratilova
Serena WilliamS TO PLAY Brisbane International. BRISBANE, Australia (AP) Serena Williams has confirmed she will play in the Brisbane International tuneup event before next year's Australian Open. Brisbane tournament officials said Wednesday that Williams, the defending champion, and Australian Lleyton Hewitt would join the previously announced Roger Federer at the hard-court tournament at the Queensland Tennis Centre from Dec. 29-Jan. 5. The Australian Open, which Williams has won five times, begins Jan. 13 at Melbourne Park. Williams, the world No. 1, will be attempting to win her 18th Grand Slam singles title. Williams won nine WTA titles this year, including her fifth U.S. Open title and second at the French Open. Hewitt recently led Australia back into the Davis Cup's elite World Group after a six-year absence. He also reached the round of 16 at the U.S.
Serena confirms for Australian Open 02 Oct 2013 , Sydney, October 02, 2013 World tennis number one Serena Williams will begin her campaign for an 18th Grand Slam title by warming up for the 2014 Australian Open at the Brisbane International, she announced on Wednesday. Williams is the defending Brisbane champion and said the December 29-January 5 tournament fitted her preparations perfectly. "They have a great fitness centre; they have great courts that are identical to the surface played in Melbourne," she said in a statement. "Plus I have a week off after the tournament, so it's always a good preparation to play in Brisbane, and it's always fun to go back and try and defend your title." The American will be gunning for an 18th major title at the Australian Open, a feat that would put her alongside Martina Navratilova and Chris Evert in the all-time Open Era win list, behind only Steffi Graf (22). Another 17-time Grand Slam winner, Roger Federer, has previously confirmed he will also play at Brisbane, wh ...
Serena Williams headed to Brisbane - Defending champion Serena Williams will join Australian former world number one Lleyton Hewitt and 17-time Grand Slam champion Roger Federer in headli. link to the article
Rafael Nadal and Serena Williams didn’t need to win the U.S. Open, which concluded on Monday in New York, to join tennis’s pantheon; they have been a prominent part of it for some time now. Nadal had progressed from being a wrinkle in the argument that Roger Federer was the greatest male player of all time to being a contender for the honour himself. Serena, after her first-round defeat at Roland Garros last year, had dominated the women’s tour, winning three of five Grand Slam titles, an Olympic singles gold and causing former players of the stature of John Mcenroe, Martina Navratilova, and Chris Evert to suggest that there hadn’t been a better female player. Neither Nadal’s 13th major nor Serena’s 17th were records. Federer (17) and Pete Sampras (14) lead the men’s list while Margaret Court (24), Steffi Graf (22), Helen Wills Moody (19), Evert and Navratilova (18 each) top the women’s. But what Nadal’s second U.S. crown and Serena’s fifth did was advance their cases so strongly that ...

Morning everyone, we've got an exciting week ahead. Did you know that Roger Federer & Serena Williams are competing in Hamburg & Bastad?
Some things really puzzle me several tennis players win multiple Grand Slams and get no recognition yet just because Andy Murray wins Wimbledon he is worthy of a knighthood I think its totally pathetic, Virginia Wade won the Wimbledon title in 1977 and she was never made a Dame so what is the difference. Serena Williams & Venus Williams have won 5 Wimbledon titles, Rafael Nadal has won 2 Wimbledon titles, Roger Federer has won 7 Wimbledon titles, Maria Sharapova has won 1 Wimbledon title and do they get any recognition just for winning Wimbledon no they do not. If anyone should be knighted it should be soldiers in the army who do a far more important job fighting for their country and risk their lives on a daily basis. Andy Murray stands on a tennis court hitting a ball from one side to the other and gets paid millions just for doing that its totally out of order. Serena Williams has won 16 Grand Slams in Singles, 13 Grand Slams in Doubles, 2 Grand Slams in Mixed Doubles and 4 Olympic Gold Medals (1 in Si ...
Marion Bartoli's near-perfect day ... LONDON -- The big, flat-out hitters -- Serena Williams, Victoria Azarenka and Maria Sharapova -- were already chilling at home when the women's semifinals unfurled Thursday. That they also were the top three seeds here at the All England Club says a lot about today's game. Big is almost always better, but this retro final four has something different: variety. It happened on the men's side, when Roger Federer and Rafael Nadal succumbed to crazed, net-crashing volleyers named Steve Darcis and Sergiy Stakhovsky. As Martina Navratilova wrote in her Thursday column in the Times of London, all four women's semifinalists could have played in the wooden racket era. Their average height -- about 5-foot-7 -- isn't all that far beyond the height of an average woman. They resist the urge to hit everything hard and harder; rather, they have a pleasing array of spins and speeds for any occasion. Even Sabine Lisicki, the most powerful of the group, unleashed a hail of drop shots in ...
Can't believe Roger Federer and Serena Williams have been knocked out of this year
Serena Williams stunned at Wimbledon by German Sabine Lisicki Kvitova, Li Na also advance The Associated Press Posted: Jul 1, 2013 10:27 AM ET Last Updated: Jul 1, 2013 11:55 AM ET Sabine Lisicki overcome mid-match struggles to earn the biggest win of her career. Serena Williams saw her match streak end at 34 on Monday, and more importantly, her bid to repeat as Wimbledon champion. Germany's Sabine Lisicki topped Williams by scores of 6-2, 1-6, 6-4 on Centre Court, continuing a trend of upsets during the tournament's fortnight. Past Wimbledon champions Roger Federer, Rafael Nadal and Maria Sharapova exited the tournament last week, while top contenders Victoria Azarenka and Jo-Wilfried Tsonga were among a spate of injury casualties. "I probably couldn't be more disappointed," Williams said. "I think I may have backed off of a success. I was playing something successful. I didn't continue that path. The result didn't go the way it could have gone had I continued to play the way I did in the second set." No ...
Guess who? Djokovic, Murray and Serena lead unfamiliar cast Novak Djokovic, Andy Murray and Serena Williams will head a cast of fresh-faced hopefuls on Monday as Wimbledon heads into the second week which will be a Federer-free zone for the first time in 11 years. A second week which had promised back-to-back blockbuster matches after Murray, seven-times champion Roger Federer and 2008 and 2010 winner Rafa Nadal had been thrown together in the same half of the draw, will instead have a distinctly unfamiliar look to it following an unforgettable week of shocks. Gone are Federer, Nadal, Maria Sharapova and Victoria Azarenka - all former world number ones, all Grand Slam champions and who between them own 35 major trophies. Instead, the second week line-up includes an array of characters who had turned up at the All England Club expecting to play a supporting role but have been thrust into the limelight of a last-16 appearance. French duo Kenny de Schepper and Adrian Mannarino, Poland's Jerzy Janowicz, Italy ...
A renaissance for the aging set this season, Nine of the 32 players remaining at The Championships are 30 or over, Kimiko Date-Krumm remembers the good ol’ days, when she used to shop in the morning, then go play tennis at night. Those days are over, at least the shopping part. At 42 years young, Date-Krumm is still out there, the oldest of the old in what is turning into quite a renaissance for the aging set this tennis season, and here at Wimbledon this week. “When I was young, even during the tournament, I had energy for the shopping, but now I have no energy for that,” Date-Krumm said on Saturday, shortly after she fell 6-2, 6-0 to the tournament’s top thirty-something, Serena Williams. In all, nine of the 32 players remaining for the second week of Wimbledon will be 30 or over, tying the Wimbledon open-era record for the fourth round, last reached in 1975. Not among those nine: 31-year-old Roger Federer, the seven-time champion who exited early, but upon leaving, said, “I still have plans t ...

It's been a massive weekend at Wimbledon with lots of upsets. In the men's draw, Rafa Nadal and Roger Federer have been knocked out of the tournament by relatively unknown players Steve Darcis and Sergiy Stakhovsky. Have you been watching Wimbledon? What has been your most memorable moment so far? Who do you think will win the competition in both the women's and men's draw? Lee wants to hear your thoughts.
Meanwhile the Chicago Blackhawks scored two goals in the last minute Monday night to become Stanley Cup Champions in hockey. The Boston Bruins had a great season, but Chicago didn't want to leave Boston without the Cup or have a Game 7. And at Wimbledon how about all the upsets. First Rafael Nadal was beaten in the first round and then Steve Darcis of Belgium who beat him had a shoulder injury and had to withdraw from the tournament. And then Roger Federer, Maria Sharapova Victoria Azarenka and Lleyton Hewitt another former Wimbledon winner went down. Serena Williams was so shocked by the defeats of Roger Federer and Maria Sharapova and the injury carnage ...
Nadal out, Sharapova out, my man Roger Federer out too, tired of watching; its been upsets so far except for Serena Williams"
Oops! Roger Federer has just been dumped out of Wimbledon in round 2. By a Sergei Stakhousky?? He joins familiar names like Nadal, Tsonga (men), Sharakova and Azarenka (women). Watch out Andy Murray, Serena Williams, Novak Djokovic. There are new kids in town..And they are hungry for the spotlight.
SW19 is so unforgiving. First it was Rafael Nadal, next Roger Federer and then Sharapova is out too! Will Serena William survive next round?
Wimbledon have called a foot fault on Roger Federer, demanding he change his shoes for his second-round match.
Nadal puts the gentleman in gentlemen's singles LONDON (Reuters) - For Rafael Nadal dignity in defeat is a deeply held belief and, along with his arch rivals, the Spaniard has put the gentleman back into the gentlemen's singles at Wimbledon. Compare that with the catfight that broke out between Serena Williams and Maria Sharapova in the lead-up to the world's most famous tennis tournament. Nadal, who tumbled out of the championships in a straight sets defeat by Belgian journeyman Steve Darcis on the opening day, declined to blame his wounded knee despite persistent questioning at the post-match news conference. He doesn't do excuses. The Spaniard, like Roger Federer, Andy Murray and Novak Djokovic, is a great believer in mutual respect. The leading quartet on the men's circuit do not indulge in slanging matches. That prompted Latvian player Ernests Gulbis to complain in an interview with French newspaper L'Equipe last month that: "Tennis today badly lacks characters... all four of them are boring players. ...

Great Britain's hero Andy Murray would also have a match on this day. He will face Taipei's Yen-Hsun Lu at the No. 1 Court. Crowd darling and third seed Maria Sharapova will also play on Wednesday and face Portugal's Michelle Larcher De Brito. The sportsbook handicappers have installed Novak Djokovic and Serena Williams as the favorites to win the Wimbledon title in their respective events.

Only 24 hours to go till Wimbledon! Roger Federer and Serena Williams won the 2012 title. Who are you rooting for this year?
Roger Federer or Serena Williams. Prolly the only sport u can compare men and women
I just played as Serena Williams against Roger Federer in the Daily Challenge
ESPN pundits John Mcenroe and Chris Evert gave their thoughts on who they think will be holding the trophies at the end of the Wimbledon fortnight. joined in to hear their views... In the days leading up to a major, the talk in the tennis world is always around who is favoured to take home the trophy at the close of the fortnight. In the case of The Championships 2013, Serena Williams is the leading candidate among the women. The 31-year-old Williams is the world No.1, the top seed and the defending champion who is fresh off a title at Roland Garros and riding a 31-match winning streak that dates back to March. But on the men's side, it's not as easy for the 127th Championships. Top seed Novak Djokovic won the year's opening major in Australia, but Rafael Nadal stormed back from injury to capture his record eighth title in Paris earlier this month. Roger Federer, a seven-times winner at Wimbledon, is the defending champion here. But it's actually Andy Murray who was technically the last to h ...

Wednesday morning Sports update: *A late penalty denied Australia an historic win as Japan qualified for the 2014 FIFA World Cup with a 1-1 draw in Saitama. *India hammered Australia by 243 runs in a Champions Trophy warm-up match after skittling out the defending champions for just 65 in Cardiff. Michael Clarke is in doubt for Saturday's tournament opener against England after missing the game against India due to his back injury. *Jo-Wilfried Tsonga sent Roger Federer crashing out of the French Open to take a step closer to ending France's 30-year wait for a men's champion at Roland Garros. Sixth-seed Tsonga had a convincing 7-5, 6-3, 6-3 victory to reach his first semi-final in Paris and first by a home player since Gael Monfils in 2008. World number one Serena Williams reached her first French Open semi-final since 2003, defeating unseeded Russian Svetlana Kuznetsova, 6-1, 3-6, 6-3. Like an apparition - I've spent last weekend in the stands of Phillipe Chartrier at the Roland Garros Grand Slam in Paris watching the gratest icons of our generation, Serena Williams, Maria Sharapova, Rafael Nadal and Roger Federer, but also Novak Djokovic, Jo-Wilfred Tsonga among others. When all of sudden, for a brief moment, John Mcenroe emerged from the []

We'll be speaking to a number of tennis stars including, Roger Federer, Serena Williams and Jimmy Connors on the show today. Lee will also be joined by a former French Open winner. Tune in at 1400GMT!
Most of the top seeded players have made it through the first three rounds of the French Open, the exceptions being Tomas Berdych, Li Na and Caroline Wozniaki. However, top men's seed, Novak Djokovic, has so far not demonstrated his tennis prowess while King of Clay, Rafael Nadal, struggled through his first two games dropping two sets early in the championship. It would seem that Roger Federer and Serena Williams are in top form and have so far had easy rides against their opponents. But who will be crowned Roland Garros 2013 Champion? Will Rafael Nadal lynch a historic nineth French Open title? DSTV brings us the action live from the French capital.
Roger Federer takes on Julien Benneteau while Serena Williams plays Sorana Cirstea in the French Open third round -
TENNIS Swiss icon Roger Federer was an easy second-round winner Wednesday at the 2013 French Open. The second-seeded former world No. 1 superstar dismantled helpless Indian Somdev Devvarman 6-2, 6-1, 6-1 in a brisk 82-minute affair on Court Lenglen. Devvarman was a two-time NCAA champion while attending the University of Virginia. Federer boasts a men's-record 254 Grand Slam singles match victories and is now third on the men's Open-Era list with 56 wins at the French. Federer's third-round opponent will be quality Frenchman Julien Benneteau, who upset the Swiss legend in Rotterdam earlier this season. Meanwhile, fourth-seeded David Ferrer and sixth seed Jo-Wilfried Tsonga also secured spots in the third round. On the women's side, world No. 1 superstar and former champion Serena Williams, Australian Open titlist Victoria Azarenka and last year's Wimbledon runner-up Agnieszka Radwanska were a trio of winners Wednesday at Roland Garros. The sizzling-hot 2002 French Open winner Williams won her 26th straigh ...
Roger Federer, Serena Williams, Venus Williams, Milos Raonic and David Ferrer highlight Day 1 action at the French Open on Sunday.
The 2013 French Open begins on Sunday with Round 1 play, as the 2nd Grand Slam tennis tournament of the year takes center stage on the red clay of Roland Garros in Paris. Novak Djokovic sits in the top stop on the men's singles side, and will face Belgium's David Goffin in Round 1. The man who defeated Djokovic in last year's final to capture the 2012 French Open title, Rafael Nadal, begins the tournament ranked 3rd, and will face Germany's Daniel Brands in Round 1. Roger Federer is the tournaments number 2 seed, and Spain's David Ferrer, at number 4, round out the top 4 spots. Americans Sam Querrey and John Isner are ranked number 18 and 19 respectively. Isner faces Carlos Berlocq, of Argentina, in Round 1 while Querrey takes on Slovakia's Lukas Lacko. On the women's singles side, Serena Williams holds the number 1 spot and she faces Anna Tatishvili, of Georgia, in Round 1. Williams sister, Venus, comes into the French Open with the number 30 seed. That weird moment when Quirk said he wanted Roger Federer and Serena Williams to procreate.
Australian Open champion Victoria Azarenka and 17-time Grand Slam winner Roger Federer are ready for their title defence at the BNP Paribas Open, even though a second consecutive title won't be enough for both to reclaim their world No. 1 ranking. The women's main draw, which gets underway on Wednesday with the top 32 seeds getting a first-round bye, has lost a bit of its sheen this year with current No. 1 Serena Williams skipping the event, along with sister Venus and China's Li Na who is battling the ankle injury she suffered while losing the Australian Open final against Azarenka. World No. 3 Maria Sharapova comes into the tournament seeded second followed by Poland's Agnieszka Radwanska and Germany's Angelique Kerber. World No. 10 Caroline Wozniacki of Denmark, who won the tournament in 2011, is also in the top quarter of the draw.

Serena Williams and Roger Federer are the best tennis players ever to me
Although, if Roger Federer and/or Serena Williams win a Grandslam this year, I just might be re-invigorated : )
My grandpa got to meet with and get autographs from Novak Djokovic, Roger Federer, Juan Del Potro, and Serena Williams... -__-
so we have reached the semi final stage of the Aussie Open. Andy Murray has breezed through without dropping a set. No dramas at all but i guess those lie ahead. Waiting for him is that guy they keep saying is over the hill. Thats right, Roger Federer is still going strong and i would still have him as favourite over Muzza but only just. Djokovic meets Ferrer and as Ferrer does all the things Djokovic does but slightly less effectively means that Djokovic will win easy. Djokovic also gets to play one day earlier than the other semi final. Why do tennis organisers allow imbalances like that to happen? In the ladies, Serena Williams is surprisingly out having been beaten by her protege, Sloane Stephens (she did for Laura Robson). Stephens meets Azarenka who will destroy her i think. In the final semi final Maria meets Li Na. Sharapova has lost only 9 games en route to this stage. That is staggering but this will be tougher. Still going for Maria mind you.

The Big Four Grand Slams will obviously be the highlight of the calendar year in Tennis . Last season Novak Djokovic, Rafael Nadal, Roger Federer and Andy Murray all claimed one each. Will it be a return to a more dominant year for the Serb, Novak Djokovic though, with Nadal still struggling with fitness problems and Federer heading to the twilight years of his career? In the women’s category, can world number one Victoria Azarenka hold off the challenges of Serena Williams? Will Maria Sharapova make a bigger impact? The action starts mid January with the Australian Open, followed by the French Open in May, Wimbledon in July and the US Open to round off the Slam series in August. So much to look out for in the world of tennis in 2013.
Day 4 at the Australian Open Tennis and it's total fire ban stuff here at Melbourne Park! 39c outside, on court 49c and it's Aussie Bernard Tomic leading German Daniel Brands 2 sets to 1 and is 5-4 up in the fourth. Serena Williams (3) quashed any injury concerns after demolishing spaniard Garbine Muguruza in straight sets 6-2 6-0 whilst world no.1 Victoria Azarenka eased past Eleni Daniilidou form from Greece 6-1 6-0. Sam Stosur maybe out of the singles but she is still alive in the doubles after teaming up with young German Julia Gorges to def Daniela Hantuchova (SVK) & Anabel Mendina Garrigues (ESP) 6-3 6-1 Whilst the other Aussie in singles contention in the men's draw wild card James Duckworth has tied up the match and taken it to a fifth and deciding set. Duckworth trails 2-1 with players holding serve. On Rod Laver tonight Roger Federer (2) takes on Russia's Nikolay Davydenko, and Petra Kvitova (8) will play Aussie born Brit Laura Robson.
It is really amazing how Roger Federer has remained healthy and injury free throughout his career. Tennis is a rough sport and players succumb to horrendous injuries. Serena Williams and Brian Baker are the latest victims...
KBRAZ SPORTS Serena Williams frightened a few people, including herself. Defending champion Victoria Azarenka had a momentary lack of concentration. Two of the biggest names on the men's side at the Australian Open — Roger Federer and Andy Murray — had straight-set wins. Day 2 at Melbourne Park on Tuesday brought another day of perfect weather but a few anxious moments for Williams, who fell awkwardly on her right ankle in her 6-0, 6-0 win over No. 110-ranked Edina Gallovits-Hall. Williams had the ankle heavily taped by trainers and was able to continue and still dominate the Romanian player. Later, she said she hoped to continue playing — she'll have a scheduled day off Wednesday, returning Thursday to play her second-round match — and maintain her quest of winning her third Grand Slam tournament in a row and sixth Australian Open. "I think I was really, really close to panicking because a very similar thing happened to me last year, almost on the same side, the same shot," Williams said. "I just ...

Tennis - Victoria Azarenka and Serena Williams, Roger Federer and Andy Murray in same half of draw at Aussie Open.
Gents can stop asking tennis star Maria Sharapova if she fancies a game of Mixed Doubles as the world number two appears to have a new man. The Russian beauty has been linked with fellow tennis player Grigor Dimitrov, who is nicknamed “Baby Federer” as his playing style resembles that of world number two Roger Federer. Dimitrov, 21, who is ranked number 41, was rumoured to be dating another tennis player in Serena Williams but now a video of him and Sharapova flirting in Milan in December has appeared. After his Brisbane International final loss to Andy Murray the Bulgarian said: “I don’t discuss my private life.” However, reports suggest that this is just the result of the Sharapova’s marketing machine
Arithmetic IMG: Djokovic + = Federer Nadal? Roger Federer Photo Getty Images Media giant IMG ( International Management Group), which is known for being the managerial company for dozens of the most famous athletes of the world, including Tiger Woods, Maria Sharapova, Serena Williams, it seems has not the best of times. In May of this year, Roger Federer , who by that time has expired contract with IMG, did not want to renew for a further term, and together with his long-agent Tony Godsikom left the company. After 12 years of very successful work with IMG, Federer decided to indulge in a "single voyage." There are quite persistent rumors that Roger with Tony about to announce the creation of its own sports agency and even called when it happens - during Australian Open. Tennisspace quotes a passage from an interview with Federer, which sheds some light on the upcoming announcement, "It was tough year - and I have nothing on it was time. We had to discuss it calmly and we will take action, starting with US ...

Roger Federer says he won’t play as often in the next few years and hopes to compete in the 2016 Olympics in Rio de Janeiro. The 31-year-old Federer says he’ll be more mindful about the tournaments he plays in the future to make sure he can continue playing at a high level. “I have to make sure that I take care of my schedule, of my body, of my mind,” he said on Thursday. “Hopefully, I can still stay on tour for many more years and hopefully play the Olympics here in three-and-a-half years or so, so I have to look far ahead and not just the next six months.” The winner of 17 Grand Slams is in Sao Paulo hosting exhibition matches involving Maria Sharapova, Victoria Azarenka, Serena Williams, Caroline Wozniacki, Jo-Wilfried Tsonga, Tommy Robredo, Tommy Haas and Thomaz Bellucci. The Bryan Brothers, Bob and Mike, are also participating. Federer plays Bellucci, Brazil’s top-ranked player, on Thursday.

Only Serena Williams Can Stop Serena Williams! RSI (c) The seeds have been announced. And if it always has been Serena Williams' world in imagination, so it is again in deed. As summer approached, the truth was that if she was in the draw and healthy, regardless of seed or ranking, Williams was considered the favorite in every tournament. This was true even though Williams hadn't won a major since Wimbledon in 2010, but none of the headliners of the women's game -- Caroline Wozniacki, Maria Sharapova, Victoria Azarenka -- could claim a mandate over her. Today, the imagination and the results have again aligned. A year that began with losses to Ekaterina Makarova at the Australian Open and Virginie Razzano at Roland Garros (in the first round, no less) continues at Flushing Meadows with Williams again holding the title of the dominant figure in the women's game on the court. Wimbledon was hers, and so was Olympic gold, in both in singles and doubles. The Serena narrative leading up to the London Games ce ...
Predictions for the US Open tomorrow Men's - Roger Federer Women's - Serena Williams
Tyler just met and got a ball signed by Serena Williams, we are now waiting on our meet and greet to meet Andy Murray and Roger Federer!
Prediction: Roger Federer and Sharapova - Serena Williams will be exhausted after her exploits at Wimbledon and in the Olympics - to win the U.S. Open while Andy Murray will be desperate to win that elusive Grand Slam title. Although Murray will definitely be buoyant after winning the Olympics despite being massacred by Chardy Fish a couple of days ago. I think Murray has a realistic chance as hardcourts is his preferred surface - well so he keeps reminding us - and he has already reached three Grand Slam finals (2008 U.S. Open, 2010 Australian Open and 2011 Australian Open) on hardcourts. Murray is pretty good on clay and grass as well but if he is going to break his Major duck then it will probably come on the hardcourts of Flushing Meadows or Melbourne.or maybe both. His limit on grass and clay will be semis - only reached final of Wimbledon because Nadal got humiliated in round one by a nobody lol - despite reaching final of Wimbledon and winning Olympics at Wimbledon. Okay Murray has beaten Nadal in ...

Roger Federer and Serena Williams each started their Olympic singles campaigns with victories, though Federer was created to figure tougher than expected.
Swimming legend Michael Phelps suffered a nervy start in his bid for Olympic history Saturday as the London Games swung into full-blown action with China claiming the first gold medal. Kazakh cyclist Alexandre Vinokourov shocked hosts Britain in the men's road race, and tennis stars Roger Federer and Serena Williams made progress in the familiar surroundings of Wimbledon. After Friday's lavish opening ceremony, the 30th Games got down to serious business with competition in 19 sports, from the far-flung rowing lake of Eton Dorney and across east London's Olympic Park. In the pool, visited on Saturday by Queen Elizabeth II, Phelps needs just three medals to surpass Soviet gymnast Larisa Latynina's all-time career record of 18. But the defending champion just scraped into Saturday's 400m individual medley final by the skin of his teeth. Phelps finished in 4min 13.33sec to grab the eighth and last spot in the final which takes place later Saturday, but sounded a defiant note afterwards despite his brush with ...

no point comparing it. Serena Williams would never beat Roger Federer at tennis. They are good players.
No point saying it's not as good as the men's game. That's like saying Serena Williams would lose to Roger Federer. Irrelevant

Makes me look forward to 30yrs! Wimbledon 2012 Champions: Roger Federer & Serena Williams.
Serena Williams was born on exactly the same day and year as me and Roger Federer was also born in the same year. Must have been a year for winners!
I am a huge tennis fan. Congrats to two of the best of all time, Serena Williams and Roger Federer winning Wimbledon this weekend. Roger Federer's Finals match was in particular interesting as he was going up against the 'hometown boy' from Scotland, Andy Murray. The British sporting public are so passionate it can be suffocating at times, but it seems they really lifted Andy's spirits this tourney. Of course some of the UK press couldn't avoid some snarky comments afterwards. Referring to Andy's tearful postmatch comments, a writer commented: ' Andy Murray will appreciate Roger Federer too, one day. When he stops crying.'
Roger Federer becomes first man over 30 to win Wimbledon Singles Title since Serena Williams.

Roger Federer deserves big props for winning his 17th Grand Slam title today by also winning his 7th Wimbledon championship. He has got to be in the top 2-3 greatest men's tennis players ever. Remember when there were great American men tennis players? And what will happen to American women's tennis once Venus and Serena Williams retire?
Well .. year of the 30's at Wimbledon. Serena Williams and Roger Federer. By far the best of their generations.
2012 Wimbleton Open winners: Roger Federer over Andy Murray and Serena Williams over Agnieszka Radwanska.
Congrats to Serena Williams & Roger Federer on their Wimbledon Titles. David Beckham on hand to watch while his LA Galaxy play
Serena Williams should have played with Roger Federer in this year's Wimbledon final.
Serena Williams and Roger Federer to win the Wimbledon singles finals, just like 2009 when I was there!
I believe just being Andy Murray is enough to beat Roger Federer. Just being Agnieszka Radwanska won't be enough to beat Serena Williams.
Proud of Serena Williams and Roger Federer! Age is no limitation! Live stronger!
"wait for Wimbledon.Roger Federer and Serena Williams. Tough Match-up, Serena's shoulders bigger
Roger Federer and Serena Williams have turned back the years by being in another final, now it feels like 2005 not 2012...
- The 'Serve' minus the 'Volley' takes the Centre Stage on the Centre Court as 30+ Roger Federer and Serena Williams the big time 'servers' chase history in their own way. Odds too favour both these veterans as their opponents Andy Murray and Radwanska are first time finalists at Wimbledon. While Federer has won Wimbledon 6 times in 7 finals and looking forward to see his name next to Pete Sampras who won W'don 7 times in equal number of finals, Serena if she wins will equal her sister Venus Williams record of 5 titles here and would be the first woman aged 30 or over to capture the Ladies' Singles Championship since Martina Navratilova in 1990.
I have to tip my cap to Andy Murray for making it to the Wimbledon finals to face Roger Federer (the first brit to do so in over 70 years) but the question remains can he beat a guy on his best surface? And Serena Williams too you cheated death and are on the verge of another Wimbledon title way to go!!!
Hopeful that Roger Federer and Serena Williams are the new Wimbledon Champs after this weekend. Something to be said for mature experience over youthful exuberance...
Roger Federer against Andy Murray at the 2008 Tennis Masters Cup (Photo Credit: Wikipedia) Not too many tennis players flourish in their 30’s but this weekend could be a remarkable one at the All-England Club. Roger Federer, a month away from turning 31, has a chance to reclaim the sport’s No. [.
The Wimbledon weekend: • Roger Federer, long after many had written him off, is playing to re-claim the No. 1 world ranking and simultaneously set numerous all-time tournament and world-tour records. • A month after a first-round French loss signaled a final demise to detractors, Serena Williams is playing to tie her sister’s five Wimbledon singles crowns, while also teaming with that same sister (Venus, of course) to go for their fifth Wimbledon and thirteenth Grand Slam women’s doubles championship. • And, oh yes, Andy Murray is playing to be the first British-born male singles champ in 76 years and first British-born champ of any gender in 35 years. Why can’t they infuse any drama and history into this *** tournament?

Roger Federer and Serena Williams won their single semifinal matches and the sisters won also their double semifinal match ...happy for them.
He did it! The all time greatest, mens, tennis champion {ever} in history, and my favorite, at age 31, Roger Federer, has done it again after a 29 month drought, to make it back to the finals of the greatest tennis slam event ever at Wimbledon this morning, beating the current Novak Djokavic. He truely is the greatest mens tennis player of all time and could be ranked # 1 again in the world after Sunday's finals. And how cool is it on the women's side of the draw, that Serena Williams, after coming back at age 31 has come back from multiple surgeries and a near death experience to play in the in the finals tomarrow. Both my favorite players are at the top again and they're the oldest players out there. Pretty cool I think!!! You know where I'll be this weekend!! Everyone that knows me, knows the rules about me watching the finals of this Slams finals. Lol! ;)
Wimbledon. I will miss you next week. I will not miss getting up at 6am every morning to watch you, however. ;) Will be rooting for Serena Williams in the women's final and Roger Federer in the men's. Duh.
