Vote, a right worth fighting for. Back on July 19-20, 1848, 300 angry people came together in Seneca Falls New York. From that gathering, sixty-eight women and thirty-two men signed Elizabeth Stanton's Declaration of Sentiments, which said that, "all men and women are created equal. " This was the first demand for female citizens to have the right to vote. We waited seventy-two more years for that to hapen. We only need wait until November 4th. Your voice, your vote!

The White House Office of the Press Secretary For Immediate Release (See the original) March 01, 2014 Presidential Proclamation - Women's History Month, 2014 BY THE PRESIDENT OF THE United States OF AMERICA A PROCLAMATION Throughout our Nation's history, American women have led movements for social and economic justice, made groundbreaking scientific discoveries, enriched our culture with stunning works of art and literature, and charted bold directions in our foreign policy. They have served our country with valor, from the battlefields of the Revolutionary War to the deserts of Iraq and mountains of Afghanistan. During Women's History Month, we recognize the victories, struggles, and stories of the women who have made our country what it is today. This month, we are reminded that even in America, freedom and justice have never come easily. As part of a centuries-old and ever-evolving movement, countless women have put their shoulder to the wheel of progress -- activists who gathered at Seneca Falls and ...

Annette Severs Carr this an example of what can happen to an amendment during the ratification process. This was a very recent one and one that I remember. The Equal Rights Amendment Freedom from legal sex discrimination, Alice Paul believed, required an Equal Rights Amendment that affirmed the equal application of the Constitution to all citizens. In 1923, in Seneca Falls for the celebration of the 75th anniversary of the 1848 Woman's Rights Convention, she introduced the "Lucretia Mott Amendment," which read: "Men and women shall have equal rights throughout the United States and every place subject to its jurisdiction." The amendment was introduced in every session of Congress until it passed in reworded form in 1972. Although the National Woman's Party and professional women such as Amelia Earhart supported the amendment, reformers who had worked for protective labor laws that treated women differently from men were afraid that the ERA would wipe out the progress they had made. In the early 1940s, the ...
and how about womans rights . The Republican Party pioneered the right of women to vote and was consistent in its support throughout the long campaign for acceptance. It was the first major party to advocate equal rights for women and the principle of equal pay for equal work. The Women’s Rights Convention held in Seneca Falls, N.Y., in 1848 marked the beginning of the women’s suffrage movement in the United States. Two years later there was a nationwide meeting in Worcester, Mass. By 1870, the Massachusetts Republican State Convention had already seated two suffragettes, Lucy Stone and Mary A. Livermore, as delegates. In addition, the National Republican Convention of 1872 approved a resolution favoring the admission of women to “wider fields of usefulness” and added that “the honest demand of this class of citizens for additional rights … should be treated with respectful consideration.” Wyoming, the state that pioneered women’s suffrage, sent two women, Therese A. Jenkins and Cora G. Ca ...

The Battle of Gettysburg, fought from July 1 to July 3, 1863, is considered the most important engagement of the American Civil War. After a great victory over Union forces at Chancellorsville, General Robert E. Lee marched his Army of Northern Virginia into Pennsylvania in late June 1863. On July 1, the advancing Confederates clashed with the Union's Army of the Potomac, commanded by General George G. Meade, at the crossroads town of Gettysburg. On July 3, Lee ordered an attack by fewer than 15,000 troops on the enemy's center at Cemetery Ridge. The assault, known as "Pickett's Charge," managed to pierce the Union lines but eventually failed, at the cost of thousands of rebel casualties, and Lee was forced to withdraw his battered army toward Virginia on July 4. Under proof that I don't want to be popular with anyone - - As a historian I can not find one conservative cause of the mid-nineteenth century that even a sizable minority would support today; and yet,( with the exception of slavery) almost every liberal cause fared better for being delayed. Women had to wait 70 years after Seneca Falls (1848), but today they vote at a higher percentage than males. It is the job of the conservative faction to oppose progress. Newton's laws of motion are applicable even to politics. One hundred years from now today's conservatives will be mocked as blind and ignorant, but the conservatives of that era will still battle for one or two of your causes. Least progressives become too self-righteous - not all liberal causes have been victorious (temperance, most notably), and at the end of a century at least one of your current crusades will draw a snicker from your great-great grandchildren.
I would like to send out a heartfelt thank you to the hundreds of people who made the wonderful run a success yesterday. From the many volunteers who dedicated an obscene amount of time and energy to the event to the local entities like the Seneca Falls Rec Center, our police department, Reds place, fingerlakes1and all our fantastic sponsors. There are literally too many to list. Despite the things that didn't go quite right or how we wanted them to go, there was a million things that did go right. Sometimes when you are in the middle of things and your PA system is not working and it's 12 degrees and snow is blowing sideways into your face and your wondering why the heck am I doing this, it's great to hear all the good things that happen as a result of the race. The business that is brought into this town, the money that's raised for charity, but most importantly the traditions that were started or carried on yesterday within family and friends. Thank you so much to everyone who helped. So many of you w ...

Holy crap! The mallard I shot in Amador County, California might have been banded in Seneca Falls, NY!!! One digit on the band has worn off, but the best I can tell it was a "1." If it was, that means this bird was banded as an adult in September 2005 (so who knows HOW old it is!) nearly 2,700 miles away. Incredible if it holds up.
Leah, Noah, and I are up in Bath, NY.yesterday we went to Seneca Falls to watch *** Winnett run in the Wonderful Life run. It was very cold, but Noah seemed to have a lot of fun.

I've felt weird lately because I haven't gone to enough 'holiday stuff."Today, though, I got to see a different kind of holiday tradition in Seneca Falls with the "It's a Wonderful Run." 5k. 4,000 people running in the snow. In theory, it sounds nuts, but it's not, really. I walked about half, because I have NO SKILL running in snow. Neither do a ton of other people, because I was far from being last. It was amazing seeing people doing this and being festive at the same time. People dressed like reindeer and grinches, kids and parents running and walking together in the snow. It really was Christmas.
After today, I realize how much I was secluded for so many years from so many wonderful things that life has to offer. Although I wasn't able to enjoy all the happenings in downtown Seneca Falls, I had the pleasure to work at Dave and Rita's Farm Market and Bakery and meet so many wonderful people. Some were visitors, participants of the It's a Wonderful Run 5K, an author and first time customers at the store but each and every one of them brought a smile to my face with their excitement, stories and experiences. Then, to top the day off, I was able to watch all the runners, almost 40 RCS students. approximately 10 RCS faculty and staff members and almost 4,000 other runners cross the finish line of the race. These are memories I can and will cherish for the rest of my life.
Congratulations to all my friend who ran in the "Wonderful Life" 5K in Seneca Falls today! Hope the frostbite heals quickly! ; )

I recently had a wonderful trip to Rochester, NY. I visited the home of Susan B. Anthony, learned about her relationship with Frederick Douglass, and also visited the National Women's Rights Park in Seneca Falls, NY, where people like Anthony, Lucretia Mott, and Cady Stanton (Douglass as well), met for the first National Women's rights conference in 1848. Super little National Park! I also went to the Eastman Kodak Museum, saw a fantastic collection of photography and cameras, including the actual camera used by Joe Rosenthal to take the photo of the Marines and Navy medic raising the flag on Iwo Jima, maybe one of the most significant photos of the 20th Century. It was taken on a Speed Graphic. I also met the curator of the museum, which was a great honor and privilege.
No "It's a Wonderful Life" for us. Elektra is keeping us from going to Seneca Falls tomorrow. What can you do. Hopefully the weather will be better when Amy flies in next weekend.
I have had the privilege of living in the Village of Lyons since 1985 after growing up in the neighboring town of Clyde. I have read the comments on both sights and this is the what I perceive from all the info. First and foremost whether we save or dissolve the village, the current problems that are facing the Village will still be there and will need to be absorbed by the town ( as I see it no savings, correct) What needs to happen is faith needs to be restored in the officials that have been elected by the voting population of Lyons. Problems have been passed from board to board with no resolution to the problems, the current board needs to suck it up, stop blaming previous boards and take care of the problem at hand. If you are not up to the task then you should not have run for the position, we voters put faith in you and it's time the governing body of Lyons step up to the plate. As far as the village workers go the can only do what the resources allow them to do. The streets are in terribl ...

I believe that was the slogan for the Seneca Falls Convention.
Seneca Wallace, who I refer to as Seneca Falls (no pun intended) was put in an extremely tough position. Our defense caved at the end and the result of the game was not on him. Get healthy Mr. Rodgers. We know how you get after you lose to the Bears...you win the Super Bowl.

Read and Sign this Declaration of Independence from the Tea Party and pass it on to others. Can we get a million Signers? So far we have two! The original Declaration of Independence was about grievances against King George. In 1848 women gathered in Seneca Falls, NY, issued a new Declaration where they changed the grievances from King George to grievances against men for denying them equal rights. Today American grievances are focused on the extremism of a Republican Party faction that is threatening to cripple the Government and the U. S. Constitution. In the Spirit of 1776 and in the Spirit of 1848, we offer this new Declaration for 2013. THE DECLARATION OF INDEPENDENCE FROM THE TEA PARTY [Please Join in Spreading this Message and Becoming a Signer of this Declaration] When in the Course of human events, it becomes necessary for the People of the United States to dissolve the Political Bands which have connected them with the Tea Party in its various forms and to assume among the powers of the earth, t ...
We have just been in Seneca Falls where Frank Capra set "It's A Wonderful Life." Here's the bridge where James Stewart, and our hero, are just about to throw themselves off when they are both rescued by an angel. :-) Can you believe the movie is 67 years old?
Although it is a bit fuzzy (okay, a lot fuzzy) this is the cast of our production of 'Driving Miss Daisy. From left to right are: Jarel Wright as Hoke Colburn Maggie Turner-Read as Daisy Werthan Craig 'Spazman' Simmons as Boolie Werthan The play that we are performing was adapted into the movie that stars Morgan Freeman, Jessica Tandy, and Dan Akroyd. It has been very interesting to see the differences between the play, and the movie. What was left out, what was added, how certain scenes were interpreted.  The play is presented in continuous vignettes, that progress into telling a compelling story of bigotry, prejudice, friendship, and love. October 25 (8PM), October 26 (8PM), October 27 (2PM), November 1 (8PM), and November 2 (8PM) at the New York Chiropractic College in Seneca Falls. Tickets are $10 presale, and $12 at the door.
"The best way to tell if the corn is good is to taste it straight from the cob before you cook it." That's the lesson that was learned from Tom Wilson, the owner of Dave and Rita's Farm Market and Bakery as he greeted guests with samples, arriving for the official Ribbon Cutting Ceremony event, celebrating the grand opening of his second business location. The event was hosted by the Seneca County Chamber of Commerce on August 30th at Dave & Rita's Farm Market & Bakery's newest location- on State Street in Seneca Falls. Pictured are Board Directors Pat Monahan of Finger Lakes Federal Credit Union and Melissa Weiman of Savannah Bank, N.A.
