UNREST IN KWARA PDP PROVES COSTLY, AS KWARA LOSES MINISTERIAL SLOT THE unending disagreements, power play and ego grabbing presently on-going within the highest echelon of Peoples’ Democratic Party, PDP, Kwara State, has proved costly. This is aftermath the snub of the State at the Federal level, when the President Goodluck Jonathan nominated nobody from the State for the vacant ministerial slot. However, the former Governor of Kano State, Mallam Ibrahim Shekarau; Prince Adedayo Adeyeye (Ekiti); Abdul Bulama (Yobe); and Dr. Stephen Orlu (Delta) were all nominated as Ministers of the Federal Republic of Nigeria This was contained in a letter sent addressed to Senate President, Senator David Mark, which was read on the floor of the Senate. The President, in the letter, sought for the confirmation of the ministerial nominees by the Senate. Nominees from Kwara and Anambra States were not included in the names sent to the Senate. Jonathan also attached the curriculum vitae of nominees to the letter. The lett ...
We Live In Very Trying Times – Mark In line with the numerous acts of terrorism carried out by the Boko Haram terrorist group, the president of the Senate, Senator David Mark has observed that the West African sub-region is going through a very trying time, saying ‘’there has been a crescendo of regional security challenges that requires reinforcement to confront and overcome.’’ Mark, who represented President Goodluck Jonathan at the official opening of the 2014 First Ordinary Session of ECOWAS Parliament yesterday in Abuja, said ‘’Nigeria has recently been victimised by the scourge of terror which portends a clear and present danger to the sub-region and poses a great challenge.’’ He said “terrorism is alien to our culture,’’ and urged that due to the multifaceted nature of the threat caused by the Boko Haram insurgency, the sub regional institution must lead in focusing international assistance towards proffering rational solution to overcome these challenges. he Idoma are an ethnic-linguistic group that primarily inhabits lower and western areas of Benue State,Nigeria, and kindred groups can be found in Cross Rivers and Nasarawa states. They are known to be warriors and farmers of class, but very hospitable and peace-loving. On the intellectual plain, the Idoma have produced professors and other distinguish men of letters across the globe. Politically, they have contributed immensely to the unity, peace and development of Nigeria from the pre independence era till date. The history of Nigeria will not be complete without mentioning the Idoma heroes/heroines who sacrificed their comfort on the altar of Nigeria unity. An excellent example is the ‘DOCTRINE OF NECESSITY’ by Senator David Mark and his co-travelers at the upper legislative chamber. That Solomonic sagacity saved Nigeria from near collapse and stabilised the political atmosphere that was heading for chaos and anarchy. Other Idoma heroes that fought tirelessly and are still fighting for Nigeria’s ...

The way & manner the Senate President, Senator David Mark, has been piloting the affair of the Upper Legislative House is quite commendable. He has proved to be a wonderful manager in the Legislative business. With his "I rule you out of order," he was able to checkmate imminent crises arising from defection of Senators & motion to stop the confirmation of Ministerial nominee from Osun State.

To my president,President Goodluck Jonathan, copy to Senate President, Senator David Mark, speaker federal house of representative Hon Waziri Tambual,Imo state Governor Rochas Okorocha and speaker Imo state house of assembly Hon Uwajumogu and all traditional rulers, An appeal for the amendment or inclusion into law,the law of inheritance drawing my authority from the Holy bible in the book of Numbers chapter 27 verses 8 through 9 which says and I quote, And thou shalt speak unto the children of Israel saying,if a man die, and have no son ,then ye shall cause his inheritance to pass unto his daughter. Verse 9: And if he have no daughter then ye shall give his inheritance unto his brethren. Your Excellency, The Most Distinguished Senator, MY PIECE OF ADVICE TO SENATOR DAVID MARK: You have served your people enough, let someone else help you carry the burden of leadership “No man will make a great leader who want to do it all himself, or to get all the credit for doing it” Andrew Carnegie I am greatly constrained to formally write you this letter, your Excellency, the most distinguished Senator David Mark, the Senate President of the Federal Republic of Nigeria for so many reasons than one. First, I must say that such a letter as this shouldn’t have come from me because I am not a politician, and do not have political ambition neither am I aiming ambitiously at taking your position away from you. But I believe that our lives begin to ebb to an end when we keep silent about the things that are about to happen to us. For now, I do not have such bogus and over-sized ambition. Two, I am just – a mere child before you oh great man of valour. I hail from Igede, one of the component tribes a ...

"A very loyal and committed politician, Mr Botmang contributed immensely to the development of Plateau State, when he served as two-term deputy governor to the then Governor, Dr. Joshua Dariye. He was steadfast in allegiance, full of humility and an embodiment of selfless service, even during the disquiet days of the Dariye administration" the governor noted. Amosun prayed God to grant his soul eternal rest and also comfort his family and associates. While consoling Ma ...
The Fate of Senate President Hang on the Balance as the Middle belt l APC Big shots Meet In Lafia Former National chairman of the People’s Democratic Party, The PDP, Audu Ogbeh alongside three ex-Governors of Benue, Nasarawa and one-time military Governor of Kwara State stormed Lafia in an eye-opener visit where stalwarts of the All Progressive Congress readied to whisk away power from the incumbent Senate President, Senator David Mark. The position of the APC heavyweight was made clear when the former military Governor of Kwara State and the National Vice Chairman of the APC Middle belt ( North-Central zone,) Retired General Ahmed Aboki addressed the senate minority leader, George Akume as Senate President in the making. It raised suspicious that the APC might be making a secret move to impeach the Senate President, who is from the PDP fold – that is if more senators decamp to the APC. General Aboki gave the indication at a political gathering tagged League of patriotic and progressive Youths. The vi ...
JONATHAN SCARED OF APC'S LATEST PLANS, BEGINS SECRET The embattled President Jonathan is said to be very jittery over reports that more members of the PDP in the National Assembly have decided to defect to APC on the resumption of plenary in the New Year. It was gathered that Jonathan sought the support of the Senate President, Senator David Mark, to go after the lawmakers to have a re-think and prevent the APC from taking over National Assembly completely. Jonathan has been meeting Mark more frequently at the Presidential Villa, Abuja, since December 25, 2013. Prominent among lawmakers expected to join the APC in January, is the Speaker of the House of Reps, Alhaji Aminu Tambuwal and about 30 more members of the lower chamber of the National Assembly. About 21 senators elected on the platform of PDP are also on their way out of PDP to APC this January. Already, former Governor of Kwara State, SENATOR BUKOLA SARAKIhas formally renounced his membership of PDP and embraced APC in a statement in Ilorin, the ...

*AVIATION: WE HAVE DONE WELL ...* Yakubu Dati Dr. Bernard Aliu, smiled broadly as Senate President, Senator David Mark, praised his dedication and forthrightness which has brought honour to Nigeria. Aliu, who serves as the country’s representative on the Board of ICAO is the newly elected President of the governing council of ICAO, the organ of the United Nations which oversees aviation safety globally. He is the first African to lead ICAO as its president, after over 60 years of its existence. Aviation Minister, Princess Stella Oduah, led the Aviation Ministry team which included the Special Adviser to the President on Aviation Reforms, Ms Anne Ene-Ita and Dr. Aliu. Industry observers say that Dr. Aliyu’s election has not only brought pride and a sense of high achievement to the country, it also symbolises the giant strides which the Nigerian aviation industry has taken over the past one year. This year, 2013 is particularly significant, as the year when most of the physical infrastructure that provi ...
Mark blasts Ondo Senator for failing to receive him at Akure airport: The Senate President, Senator David Mark...
Nigeria is a paradox wrapped in an oxymoron, and the Senators do not give a blink. Senate President, Senator David Mark, like most Nigerian leaders, is himself a living contradiction. When he was a minister for communications, he told Nigerians without any apologies that telephones were not meant for the poor. He could not imagine some damned messenger cuddling a phone to his ears and making calls. He forgot that today’s patrician luxury is tomorrow’s plebeian commonplace. He has been forced to endure the sight of his messengers and drivers scurrying down the Senate corridors cuddling their phones to their ears and talking their minutes away, while Senate Committees take minutes and waste our years. He now dons Agbada, he is wiser and he is older. Tomorrow he would listen to the broadcast at Eagles Square and he may not know (or, perhaps he may know) that as he would be listening, different addresses would be given in state capitals. But let us give it to Mark, he is wiser and sadder. He is sad that N ...
Nigerians mourn Akhigbe Written by Wednesday, 30 October 2013 I have lost a brother —Mark President of the Senate, Senator David Mark, on Tuesday, mourned the death of Vice Admiral Mike Akhigbe, describing his death as the loss of a brother, confidant, friend and comrade-at-arms. Senator Mark, who was overwhelmed by emotions, recalled their days at the Nigerian Defence Academy, noting that “Mike was fearless and very diligent in our course. “He took these attributes to all the formations where he was privileged to have been posted either in his core military postings or political offices. “He was one of the poster boys of our Course 3 and we were all very proud of him. His death is a huge personal loss to me, the members of Course 3, the Armed Forces, Edo State and the nation. “But we cannot question God. He alone gives life and takes same when he so desires. We are bound by his decision to take our brother and friend at this time. Senator Mark, who is the Chairman of Course 3 Alumni of the Nig ...
"BE CAREFUL WITH THAT CONFERENCE" - By BASHIR TOFA President G. E. Jonathan's acceptance of the National Conference/Dialog on the 53rd Independence Day, may be a Greek Gift. He was adamantly against it just a few months ago; and was Senator David Mark, just a few weeks ago. For them both to make such a sudden and complete U- Turn, makes the whole thing suspicious. If they plan to use it to cause some confusion toward the 2015 elections, then they better make another U-Turn in the best interest of stability, as well as the existence of this country. If that is not the case, and I want to believe it is not, then they should only receive and widely publish the report of the Committee just formed, but suspend all other actions on the Conference until well after the 2015 elections. In fact, I would want such suggestion to come from the Committee themselves. No such a Conference or anything about it, besides the ad-hoc Committee's work, should take place before the elections. Better still, this Government shoul ...

Senate: The day of battle on July 06, 2013 at 12:17 am in Politics By JOSEPH ERUNKE Presiding over plenary sessions had not been as tasking for Senator David Mark as it was last Wednesday when emotion overflowed over the course of action on President Goodluck Jonathan’s apparent veto on the State of the Nation Address Bill. Even at difficult times when watchers of Senate events thought he would end in a quandary, Senator Mark almost always found a way out. However, last Wednesday he was dragged to his wits end when emotions nearly ended in fisticuffs as the senate deliberated on a bill requiring the compulsory annual briefing of the National Assembly by the president of the country on the state of affairs of the nation. President Goodluck Jonathan like his immediate predecessors had resented the bill. However, unlike his predecessors, he made the courtesy of giving his reasons and suggestions on amendments. Jonathan, in the letter dated June 10, and read at the Senate plenary last week had said he could ...
When the ACF talk of Northern presidential candidates, you only hear them mention names of Muhammadu Buhari, Ibrahim Babangida, Nasir El-rufai, Nuhu Ribadu, Ibrahim Shekarau, Sule Lamido, Atiku Abubakar, Musa Kwankwaso etc. You don’t hear them mention names like T.Y Danjuma, Audu Ogbe, Solomon Lar, Dan Suleiman, Senator David Mark, yet they claimed that we are all northerners.” The Iponu Idoma, an Idoma nation socio–cultural organization led by Mr. Oyinehi Inalegwu at a press conference in Kaduna, criticizing the Arewa Consultative Forum (ACF) over its recent clamp- down on General Lawrence Onoja and Senator John Wash-Pam over their visit to President Gooluck Jonathan in company of some Niger Delta politicians led by Chief Edwin Clark Musa Luka
Saturday, June 22, 2013 Abacha almost killed me but thanks to Rawlings -David Mark The Senate President, Senator David Mark would have been long dead during Gen. Sanni Abacha’s military regime; but for the timely intervention of former Ghanaian President, Jerry John Rawlings, the Senate President was saved. Rawlings, as President in 1995, ensured adequate security protection for Mark when he and his bosom friend and colleague, Tunde Ogbeha, fled Nigeria when the killer squad of former Head of State, late General Sani Abacha, came after them. Mark disclosed this on Monday while thanking Rawlings for honouring the invitation of the National Assembly to be guest speaker at the just-concluded two-day International Conference on Emerging Democracies in Africa. The conference was organised by the National Institute for Legislative Studies (NILS), in collaboration with some African and European parliamentarians in Abuja. Mark, in his moving story, revealed how he was forced to flee the country at the time, whe ...
"We have insisted throughout the discourse on the current security challenges which we are bringing to a close that Nigeria is committing a grave error by concentrating all attention, expending huge resources and exerting all efforts on the insurgency in the North which happily Senator David Mark promises will come to an end soon while turning a blind eye on the far more extensive, far more profound existential threat from the Niger Delta. What is happening in Niger Delta is unprecedented in the history of Nigeria, unprecedented in the world. ‘It is embarrassing,’ a seemingly bewildered President Jonathan laments, ‘that it is only in Nigeria that crude oil is stolen.’ But surprisingly, this gargantuan, worldwide enterprise is allowed to thrive in relative peace and, what is even more alarming, to keep growing exponentially, threatening the nation’s economy and undermining its foundation. Oil Theft continues unabated with the active participation of every family in the Niger Delta, as The Economi ...
"You don't need to wait till the date Nigeria will be better before coming home to contribute your quota. Unpaid Pensions: Biafran Soldiers Regret Fighting For Nigeria’s Unity Soldiers who fought for Ngeria in the Biafran war on Monday besieged the Oyo State Secretariat saying they regretted fighting against Biafran soldiers to ensure the unity of the country as they lament unpaid pensions. They said if they had known that the country would repay them in this wicked manner, they would have fought for the survival and sovereignty of Biafra. Speaking through their Chairman, Mr. Gabriel Oiakhena, the retired soldiers said, “we have been pushed to the wall. The families of over 500,000 soldiers who lost their lives in Biafra are suffering. “We who are alive are just living as destitute. Many of us have died because they did not have money to treat and fend for themselves. Senator David Mark has spent about twelve years and he has done nothing for us. “When the militants were pushed to the wall, they took up arms and fought with the last pint of their blood”. Another ex-soldier who spoke on the issue, Mr ...
NEWS REPORTS ARTICLES COLUMNISTS PERCEPTOR INTERVIEWS SPORTS ARTS & LIFE Grandpa In Politics: The Necessity Of Sober Reflection By Pius Adesanmi May 24, 2013 - 22:51 — siteadmin caption: Pius Adesanmi Columnist: Pius Adesanmi The good news for Professor Ango Abdullahi is that no Nigerian who has followed his history of public utterances since the 1980s runs the risk of accusing him falsely of being blessed with the ability to place reflection before speech. To ascribe that particular attribute to the spokesman of the Northern Elders Forum would be tantamount to bearing false witness against the man. Indeed, if Nigerian social historians decided to map the history of spectacularly careless and ill-reflected talk in the 1980s, Alhaji Umaru Dikko, Senator David Mark, and Professor Ango Abdullahi would claim the gold, silver, and bronze medals respectively in no particular order. The order of these medals in the Careless Talk Olympics would depend on how Nigerians ranked the 1980s verbal diarrhea of the afo ...
Banning menace of street begging Category: Opinion Published on Wednesday, 29 May 2013 05:00 Written by Ujudud Shariff Share Going by the recent call of the President of the Senate, Senator David Mark, on Northern Governor to ban the Almajiri Street Beggars from our streets and rehabilitate them through education is a noble request that demands the support of all. This call when considered with a recent study conducted by the Ministerial Committee on Madrasah Education, the population of the Almajiris in Nigeria was estimated at about 10 million! This calls for a drastic action to save ourselves from the uncertain future that lay ahead of us all. But it is also obvious that for Nigeria to achieve the Millennium Development Goals (MDGs) and Education For All (EFA) goals there is need for an accelerated intervention by the Universal Basic Education Commission to integrate the Qur’anic education (Traditional Tsangaya/Almajiri Education) with the Western Education. The issue of the menace pos ...

MARK, ARCHBISHOP OF CANTERBURY, OTHERS EULOGISE ACHEBE … AS BURIAL HOLDS TODAY: Thousands of people gathered at the Alex Ekwueme Square, Awka, on Wednesday to celebrate the literary icon, Prof. Chinua Achebe, whose final burial will take place at his village, Ikenga Ogidi, on Thursday. After extolling the virtues and achievements of the author of the famous Things Fall Apart, speakers at the Celebration of Life, a special programme organised by the Anambra State Government, called for his immortalisation. The Archbishop of Canterbury, the Most Rev. Justin Welby, urged young people to emulate Achebe. “Pick up the torch which he carried. Study your people with wisdom, insight and depth and come out with the resolution of their problems,” said Rev. Andrew Willer, who represented the head of the Anglican Church worldwide. ‘Nigeria needs N350b yearly to meet water, sanitation targets’ 52 minutes ago • Mark, Aliyu seek legislation to enable citizens sue govts over amenities President Goodluck Jonathan Monday said Nigeria needs over N350 billion ($1.91 billion) yearly to meet its water and sanitation targets. He disclosed this at the opening of a two-day Presidential Summit on Water at the Banquet Hall, Presidential Villa, Abuja. He said that a situation whereby rural and sub-urban areas do not have access to clean water is unacceptable. He spoke just as Senate President, Senator David Mark and Governor of Niger State, Babangida Aliyu, agreed on the need for a legislation that would give citizens the right to sue governments if they cannot have access to their basic needs. Aliyu said that such legislation is needed to make governments perform in delivering the dividend of governance to the people. Corroborating Aliyu’s views, Mark said: “I agree with Governor Babangida Aliyu that citizens should have the right to su ...
Nigeria has played the big brother role in Africa for some time now. Helping to free South Africa, Namibia from the clutches of their oppressors, helped in quelling Sierra Leon and Liberia civil war and a host of other military intervention in other African countries i.e. as it is presently in Mali. Most of the countries in Africa are indebted to Nigeria for the sacrifices we have made in ensuring freedom, peace and stability in their countries but how have they paid us? Not even a grudging thanks “Big brother” instead they hold a hostile posture against us! The recent discovery of the president of the senate, Senator David Mark on his visit to South Africa for the AFCON final was an eye opener! David Mark seems puzzled that many African countries are hostile to Nigeria. His evidence, he said was observing how dignitaries in the state box of the stadium at Johannesburg S.A were supporting Burkina Faso as against Nigeria during the final match of the AFCON 2013. “The Catholic Church and the Christian Association of Nigeria” said: “It is clear that many commentators on the announcement by the Catholic Church that it is “suspending its membership of CAN at the national level” have allowed themselves to be carried away by their Catholicism, admiration for Bishop Hassan Kukah and Cardinal John Onaiyekan, hatred of Pentecostalism, hatred of Pastor Ayo Oritsejafor, hatred for “wealthy Pastors”, Islamism, or other prejudice to detract them from examining the facts which they may not have been privy to. How can “closeness to government” be an issue raised by Catholic Bishops who have been intimate with Nigerian politicians for decades? Is there any Church more tolerant of corrupt politicians and businessmen than the Catholic Church? Which Church does Chief Anthony Anenih, Senator David Mark and Ifeanyi Uba, for example, belong to? When has Bishop Kukah or Cardinal Onaiyekan ever criticized these people? When did they stop fraternizing with PDP? What utt ...
The Senate President, Senator David Mark, has once again advocated capital punishment for terrorism-related offenses. Senator Mark made the call as federal lawmakers held the first plenary of the year. He commended the sacrifices made by security agents in fighting terrorism and said the senate would endeavour to enhance the capability of security agencies during the year. Senator Mark also read the letter from President Goodluck Jonathan containing the names of two ministerial nominees. They are Alhaji Kabiru Turaki from Kebbi state and Professor Chinedu Nebo from Enugu state.
During the last recruitment I to the State Security Services (they are still in training at Ojo Barracks, Lagos) Senator David Mark sent in over 40 names of his kinsmen in clear and flagrant violation of the Federal Character principle. There were supposed to have been 155 cadets but federal character violators like the Senate President increased the number to well above 300. . Now why is this Minister of Interior (same ministry that supervises immigrations) not screaming Federal Character violation? Why has he not fired the director of SSS?
DISTINGUISHED SENATOR DAVID MARK – Senate President Senator David Mark, the man at the seat of power in the Senate possessing a wealth of experience, and depicting the character of a charming intellect had an interesting childhood experience and history. Today,6th January 2013, I was asked by General Muhammadu Buhari, GCFR, former Head of State to be his Representative at the Holy Mass to mark the 30th Episcopal Ordination Anniversary and Celebration of the Elevation of Archbishop John O. Onaiyekan, CON as Cardinal of the Roman Catholic Church at Our Lady Queen of Nigeria, Pro-Cathederal, Area 3, Garki, Abuja. It was a grand occasion well attended by dignitaries including President Jonathan, his wife, Patience and President of the Senate, Senator David Mark. I was duly acknowledged by the Master of Ceremony as the representative of General Muhammadu Buhari. General Buhari commended John Cardinal Oniyekan for his sterling qualities and his role as a Peace Maker in a country racked by religious intolerance. General Buhari said the prevailing tension caused by religious intolerance is unnecessary and needless. My wife, Justina and son, Daniel Obasesam were also in attendance.
The Senate President was yesterday quoted to have admitted that most politicians in Nigeria are pretenders. He made this declaration while paying condellence visit to the Sarakis in llorin over the death of their father. The second republic senate majority leader senator Olusola Saraki who passed on this week was described by many polticians within the week as a kind hearted man who shared love with his people during his life time.Following what Senator David Mark said yesterday,it is then obviously clear that if not until our politicians stop lip service and take on issues using pragmatic measures,we will continue to cry foul and develop will remain at this retarded level.Iam of opinion that Mark should lead such talk as this at the hallo chamber so that our other representatives including himself who are already quilty of lip service judge themselves.NIGERIANS,WE ARE TALKING!
So many bizarre news on today`s dailies. Quite amusing! To vow to oppose Councils as federating units is a fight against Local Government autonomy by Governors Forum for their understanding of federalism or for their under standardizing of greed? Our problem, as a nation, is that those in position to decide things often allow interest to be the yardstick for decision taking. I see it as another sign of desperation and frustration for them. Them say monkey dey shine, na tree wey near tree e for dey shine o. These greedy Governors always like to threaten the president with court action against one oil account or the order, but they keep hijacking Local Government funds through JAAC. We are not Germans or Americans, we are Nigerians and we are tired of the way its being done here or there. Let us have our own style! Very soon, they will demand for state ARMY not state POLICE again! Senator David Mark is indeed right about pretenders in Nigerian 'politricks', none is innocent. Let's pray: 'our Father, ... Thy ...

Senator David Mark as the National Council of State as all retired presidents, Heads of State are members it should cutaccross all levels Govts including all LGa Chairmen and Councillors while all state Govs and legislators should benefit frm the system.
He didn't think properly. I think the information minister is a careless talker. It was a careless talk. I hope that the president cautions him and calls him to order. He shouldn't educate us; we should educate him. For any minister who talks that carelessly next time, we will take a resolution asking the President to sack him. For those who ask ministers to bow and go when they come here for screening, this should be a hard lesson. • Senator David Mark on reacting to comments made by Minister Labaran Maku that "National Assembly resolutions are merely advisory" while fielding questions on the National Assembly's resolutions on the suspended planned introduction of new N5000 note by the central bank of Nigeria.
Constitution amendment: Fashola canvasses state police, special status for Lagos BY DAPO AKINREFON, OLASUNKANMI AKONI & MONSUR OLOWOOPEJO KADUNA — There was palpable tension in Kaduna State, yesterday, as hundreds of youths protested the alleged killing of six members of a family at Maduachi village in Zonkwa area of Zangon Kataf Local Government in the state by suspected Fulani herdsmen. Finally, after years of giving to others it looks as if my ship has finally come in. This morning I received an email from Senator David Mark, president of THE OFFICE OF THE SENATE HOUSE FEDERAL REPUBLIC OF NIGERIA COMMITTEE ON FOREIGN PAYMENT (RESOLUTION PANEL ON CONTRACT PAYMENT) IKOYI-LAGOS NIGERIA. He says that he had a meeting with Head of State, DR GOODLUCK EBELE AZIKIWE JONATHAN and the Governor of Central Bank Of Nigeria, MR SANUSI LAMIDO SANUSI about how to redeem Nigeria's tarnished image. They have decided that their best course of action is to give me 3.4 million dollars!!! $$$ All I have to do is send my banking details to DR DAVID MICHAEL CHINAKA,PAYMASTER GENERAL OF NIGERIA AT CENTRAL BANK to avoid any transfer mistake. It may be the end of the road for Boko Haram and other terrorist organisation in Nigeria as leaders of National Assembly today in Kano, Northwest Nigeria, vowed to revisit the anti-terrorism act. Senator David Mark. Senate President, David Mark in company of Speaker of House of Representatives, Alhaji Aminu Waziri Tambuwal and other lawmakers paid a condolence visit to Governor Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso. They condemned Boko Haram’s deadly attack of last Friday in Kano during which a number of government installations were destroyed and hundreds of lives lost. According to Mark, “e will ensure that all these don’t happen again. We will make sure that we prevent it. It is good to forgive but if you lose relatives, brothers, friends, it is very difficult to forgive. But by virtue of virtually all the religions that I know, they always preach forgiveness and we shall leave vengeance to God. For us in government, we will make sure that this does not happen. I want to once more thank you for receiving us and p ...

I humbly crave the indulgence of the National Assembly men to allow the constitutional review to reflect the Fundamental Objectives and Directives of state policy. The unenforceability of the omnibus provisions contained in chapter 11 of the 1999 constitution has left damaging effects on the people. It's ironical to say something is fundamental yet lacks enforcement and justifiability. Senator David Mark,Sen.James Manager,Hon. Tambuwal pls take note.
The Senate President, Senator David Mark, has given an assurance that the National Health Bill before the National Assembly would be given accelerated hearing and passage.
I wish the Speaker of the Senat, Senator David Mark, is the president of this country.
Reading some of the denigrating comments about the First Lady's health and her return is a study in how low some Nigerians have gone in the belief that they must attack anything concerning the President as proof that they are not sycophants or that they are "patriotic".some media houses also maKe things worst by making headlines of mama Goodluck speeches as to make a mockery of the GEJ administration.some of which she never even wisper..turning the country to a state of chaos. I also felt that the Presidency should have avoided all the unwarranted speculations about the First Lady's ill-health by being proactively open about it; but it is sad that some feel they must now rubbish her recovery and return. What is surprising about the crowd that went to the airport to receive and welcome her? How is that proof of sycophancy? Was there no similar welcome for Senator David Mark who was away for a brief period in Israel on health grounds recently? Had late President Umaru Yar'adua actually recovered and return ...
A friend of mine said "Shakespare never won a Nobel prize". True! I added that, I even wonder sometime if Shakespare ever realized how powerful and influencial his works were and became. That aside, this Awo/Achebe stuff is getting annoying by the day. We've heard that, "Achebe no like Awo because na Awo no make am win Nobel prize for literature!"; "Awo chop human flesh with Kwashiokwor"; "Ojukwu literally drank the federal forces blood and that of a few of his own armies"; "Gowon was a clueless ego tripper"; and "Achebe is a trouble maker and a rabble rouser who it was by mistake that his novel was translated into 50 languages". Laughable abi! What will ethnic sentiments not make people say? It seem to steal common sense away from those who are controlled by them. How I wish I am Senator David Mark so that I can shut down or delete every ethnic jingoist comments and posts online. I might even go further, send them to jail for disturbing my peace. Lolz. Nigeria @ 52 seems to be a lot celebrate for, but, come to think of it what celebrations when our roads particularly re becoming increasely unpassable?? From Otukpa junction to Aliade, Benue State, the road is in a terribly state of disrepair that ur speed is reduced to zero while plying that road. Even a section of the road has formed a kind of a big ditch that has divided the road into two! This made motorists to bye-pass it via Ugbakolo!! That portion the road is very bad that I intend to wonder what No: 3 man in Nigeria is doing about it and I say nothing, bcos no sign of any construction going on there! What worries me is that how can Senator David Mark, Senate President not use his influence in got & got this repaired and even turn it into a dual carriage way!!! This is similar to Gombe to Yola road & one says Atiku is from that area. Personally such persons who cld develop their areas shld never seek to be elected to positions of authority!

A CALL FOR A SOBER REFLECTION OF OUR ATTITUDE TOWARDS NIGERIA AS WE CELEBRATE OUR 52ND INDEPENDENCE. It’s yet another celebration for this great country Nigeria. Witnessing this celebration, I am delighted to be associated with this nation at a time when there is a need for collective responsibility and contribution in the nation building of our country Nigeria. The critically assessment of the state of decadence in our great nation and a call for a sober reflection of how our attitudes (Religious, Tribal, Cultural, Moral, Social, Political, Economic and Socio – Political) affects this development of this nation should be the focal thoughts in the heart of all well meaning citizens of this country. I maintain the same view with Senator David Mark when he counseled that, “Nobody is coming from the moon or the space to solve our problems for us. The challenge is that we must put behind us such mundane issues as ethnic or religious differences and come together as one people to tackle our problems”. ...
An irate Senate President, Senator David Mark today descended heavily on the Minister of information, Labaran Maku and indeed got personal when he described the President Jonathan’s government spokesman as a stupid person.
The unity of Nigeria is not negotiable - President Godluck Jonathan, Senator David Mark and co. MAY THEIR BLOOD BE UPON THE HEAD OF ALL THOSE SELFISH, WICKED AND MYOPIC NIGERIAN POLITICIANS AND THEIR COHORTS, WHO SEE THIS AS PART OF THE UNITY THAT CAN NEVER BE DISCUSSED. May they never escape the divine justice which is to come. The federal govt under President Jonathan, according to the Nigerian press, just recently, gave so many compensations including million cash, to the family of the later Boko Haram leader, Mohammed Yusuf . What did the federal govt give to the families of the thousands of victims of Boko Haram madness? NOTHING! All President Jonathan tells them is, get up, lick your wounds, don't complain, don't even expect a dialogue on the way out, because THE UNITY OF NIGERIA IS NOT NEGOTIABLE. The Hole Bible says in The Book of Mathew, chapter 7 vs 1 - 3 ... FOR THE MEASURE YOU GIVE IS THE SAME MEASURE YOU RECEIVE. N5,000 note: “We are not aware of any plans to stop printing” – CBN Posted about 4 hours ago | 0 comment There was indication yesterday that President Goodluck Jonathan might have bowed to mass pressure over the introduction of N5000 notes to the country by next year. It was gathered that Jonathan yesterday agreed with the two leaders of the Upper and Lower Chambers, Senator David Mark and Alhaji Aminu Tambuwal respectively at a meeting in Abuja that it is possible for his administration to suspend the printing of the highest currency. Jonathan was said to have given the assurance, stating that he had been properly briefed about how stakeholders in the country kicked against the new policy. Senator Lambasts Benue ACN Chairman Over Akume The Senate Minority Whip, Senator Ganiyu Solomon, yesterday lambasted the Benue State Chairman of the Action Congress of Nigeria (ACN), Comrade Abba Yaro, for fingering him in the alleged plots to remove Senator George Akume as the Senate Minority Leader. Yaro had in an interview with a national newspaper, accused both Solomon and Senator Chris Ngige, from Anambra, of being the brains behind the plot on the instructions of the Senate President, Senator David Mark. Yaro was quoted to have said “these people forget that Senate Minority leader’s position is not meant for ‘Mushin boys like Senator Ganiyu Solomon or men like Senator Chris Ngige.” However, Solomon in his reaction said, he was not surprised, adding that, “Mushin, despite its perceived notoriety would never field drunks and rascals for public offices, whether at the state or national levels. I amnot surprised that an irresponsible statement is coming from Yaro and his paymaster because they ...

Dear Senator David Mark, You will please permit the open nature of this letter to you. I am writing this letter to you because of your open assertion that the Nigerian online social media need to be checked. While I was almost finishing this letter to you, your Special Adviser on media and publicity, Mr. Kola Ologbondiyan gave a conference call on your behalf in which he said the media misquoted you. He said you did not call for the censorship of the social media, you only called for its check. Is not to say this is a Muslim or Northern problem; it is a Nigerian problem. Pontificating about Boko Haram by a retreating senator is not unlike the proverbial preaching of a woman: you are not surprised that the session isn’t done well; you are surprised that it is attempted at all. And with such disappointing results. And for good measure, while for some memory might have held the door wide open, for Senator David Mark, its lapse—and what a Freudian slip of a lapse it was—had tightly shut it, blocking out everything, including, as it were, some bit of self-knowledge. It all came out at the Senate Retreat in Uyo last week, where the Senate President embarrassingly forgot that he was a Northerner. Mark was later to deny it. But it could only have been after discarding his regional identity and forsaking the ranks of Northern leaders that Mark could admonish them thus: I call on the Northern elders that they should come out frankly and they should assist if they are in the position. But if they don ...

by NASIRU EL RUFAI For those wishing to understand Senator David Mark and his double-speak about insecurity in Nigeria, this piece by Dr. Hakeem Baba Ahmed sheds some light.enjoy. DECODING SENATOR DAVID MARK “When a dog sniffs at a shoe, you can be certain it will take it away.” Hausa Proverb At the end of November last year, I posted a comment under the translated Hausa proverb above, when the chorus of demands that northern leaders should find solutions to the insurgency by the JASLIWAJ (aka Boko Haram) was becoming loudly registered. I recall my good friend Bishop Mathew Kukah querying me about its meaning when I sent the comments to him, and I explained that the proverb warns of an impending event, or a suspicion that remote signals would translate into certain events. Within one week in that November, last year, Mrs Sarah Jibril, Special Adviser to President Jonathan and Pastor Oritsejafor, who carries his cross like a sword all the way to the Presidential Villa both demanded that northern leader ...
says Senate President David Mark has betrayed the trust bestowed on him as one of the leaders from the North because of his “inflammatory statements” that blamed northern leaders for not doing anything to stop Boko Haram insurgency in the region. Reacting to Mark’s remarks in Bauchi yesterday, Professor Abdullahi said Mark is number three citizen in the country; and number two citizen in the North after Vice-President Muhammad Namadi Sambo, saying the statement credited to him showed that he removed himself from the category of northern leaders “even though we considered him one of our own”. “If he has excluded himself from being a leader or elder, then I think he is quite right to say that others who are regarded as elders or leaders should be queried for some of the things that are going on”, he said. The former vice chancellor of Ahmadu Bello University, Zaria, also said he could not remember any meeting Senator David Mark convened in his responsibility as a Senate leader, northern leader ...

EXCERPT FROM THE OPENING SPEECH OF THE Senate President, Senator David Mark, AT THE SENATE RETREAT from the Nation newspaper 26th June 2012: Mark identified Boko Haram (Western education is sin) insurgency as a major security challenge. Mark warned that if care was not taken to confront Boko Haram, the sect’s activities might lead the country to break up. He said: “The question is, ‘can elders in the North solve this menace? If they can’t, let them say so. Because the impression the government is getting is that there are some groups of elders who can solve the problem. “I think it is proper for them to come out to solve the problem because Nigeria has to be one for others to exist. “The way the Boko Haram exercise is going at the moment, God forbid, it may result into the break-up of this country because people will not take it for too long. I called on the elders to come out frankly and assist to solve the problem.” He went on: “How long will the people wait? There is limit to patience, ...

Why Memories of June 12 will not Go Away In the past 19 years, it has been difficult, if not impossible, to forget the events of June 12 1993 and its dire consequences. A peaceful election where 14 million Nigerians took a decisive decision to change their destinies forever was mercilessly decimated by few people who were not more than 30 in number. A collective decision of 14 million Nigerians, who were determined, more than ever before, to change the political history of Nigeria forever was totally frustrated by fraudsters led by IBB and the late Sanni Abacha. 19 years after, I do not know how many of those people who took that ugly decision that are still alive today to witness where their bloody decision brought us to. But I know that Senator David Mark, OBJ, Tony Anenih, IBB and few others are still alive to see Nigeria they helped to destroy. I do not know whether they still remember how they came to that conclusion that Chief Abiola must be stopped even if heaven falls. Nineteen years after, those ...
