Senate Majority Leader Reid

Harry Mason Reid (born December 2, 1939) is the senior United States Senator from Nevada and a member of the Democratic Party serving since 1987. He has been the Senate Majority Leader since January 2007, having previously served as Minority Leader and Minority and Majority Whip.

Senator Harry Reid puts far too much stock in skin color. In 2008, Senate Majority Leader Reid (Dem. - Nev.) lauded the candidacy of Barack Obama because he was "light skinned" and had "no *** dialect unless he wanted one." Yes, he really said that and the media covered for him. Now, in 2014, Reid thinks he's outraged about the recent decision from the Supreme Court protecting religious liberty. Misrepresenting the actual decision, he said, "The one thing we are going to do during this work period... is to ensure that women's lives are not determined by virtue of five white men." Obviously, Justice Clarence Thomas is not “white.” But so what if he was??? It was actually racist for the leading elected Democrat in the senate to allude to their skin color anyhow when referencing a question of justice. Justice is supposed to be blind to things like skin color. Shame on Reid and the party that keeps him in power. It makes a mockery of our nation and shames us.
On the letter sent to the Washington Redskins from Senate Majority Leader Reid, and signed by fifty senators, ordering them to change the name of the team: When one of the most powerful assemblies in the world, the United States Senate, uses its stature in this way to intimidate an individual citizen or an organization, then it has ceased functioning in the service of liberty and has crossed into the dark and oppressive land of tyranny.
Recently, Senator Tom Coburn commented on the House passage of my Taxpayer Right-To-Know Act, saying: “I applaud the House’s passage of the Taxpayers Right to Know Act. This is precisely the kind of leadership the American people want to see from their elected representatives. Duplication across the federal government is a mother lode of potential savings. Each year, we waste at least $200 billion that would be much better spent by free people in free markets. Even worse, many agencies don’t even know how many programs they administer. I look forward to introducing a Senate companion to this bill in the near future and urge Senate Majority Leader Reid to not block consideration of this common sense measure.” I appreciate his kind and thoughtful words!
So true about what comes out of the mouth of US Senate Majority Leader Reid's mouth. 1. Mitt Romney failed to pay his taxes for ten years (false) 2. Individuals who suffered from medical care due to the Affordable Care Act are liars (false). 3. Bundy and his supporters in Nevada are "domestic terrorists" (false). I disagree with Bundy's position but he certainly is no domestic terrorist and Senator Reid should be ashamed of himself. One would think someone in Senator Reid's position would try to calm the flames down and resolve this problem. Instead, he throws gasoline on the flames. No real leadership here...just saying

The White House Lied To The Unions? No… Really? By: Morgan Brittany So the unions were duped into believing that Obama would take care of their health insurance issues and card check demands after they got him elected in 2008 and then again in 2012.Really?The unions are now waking up to the fact that Obamas promises were political moves that were never meant to be honored. It took the unions five years to figure this out, but better late than never I guess. In a stern letter to House Minority Leader Pelosi and Senate Majority Leader Reid, the unions stated that the proposed regulations to the Affordable Care Act would do nothing to help union health plans. In fact, these regulations would cut living standards for middle and low wage workers.Hey!Welcome to the realization that all of the rest of America has been dealing with. The unions are livid over the fact that the healthcare law does not provide subsidies for the Taft-Hartley plans (union negotiated trust funds), which affects about 20 million people ...
It's good to know Sen. Warren (Mass.) is trying to do what's right in this case. This came from an email from her. On June 13, 2013, I sent a letter urging then-U.S. Trade Representative nominee Michael Froman to support increased transparency in negotiations over the Trans-Pacific Partnership (TPP) and immediately make public the bracketed text of the TPP. Unfortunately, Mr. Froman refused to support this enhanced transparency. In January of this year, I joined several fellow Senators on a letter to Senate Majority Leader Reid urging him to advance an alternative trade agreement negotiation and approval process instead of Fast Track. I will keep pushing for transparency and public accountability in this area because it is critical that Congress and the American people have a strong voice in trade negotiations. Thank you again for reaching out to me on this issue, and I hope that you will continue to keep me informed about issues that are important to you. Sincerely, U.S. Senator Elizabeth Warren
TO THE VICTORS GO THE SPOILED FRUIT Tomorrow 1.3 million Americans lose their extended unemployment insurance. Some blame Republicans for their lost lifeline. Others believe Democrats were complicit in the budget deal that cost them $300 per week. But most curse both parties, even if unequally. The jobless expect the GOP to do them harm, and are never disappointed. The Democrats are held to a much higher standard: you owe us -- big time! Without the votes of jobless households, Senator Harry Reid would not have won reelection in 2010. Nor would President Barack Obama have won in 2012. In both cycles, voters from jobless households made up 30 to 35 percent of the turnout. They were the swing vote, shifted from being against all incumbents to supporting those who fought for them. Senate Majority Leader Reid was a case in point. In 2010, Nevada had "official" jobless rates over 19 percent. His campaign ads recounted what he had done, and what he wanted to do, to put Nevadans back to work. In Nevada exit poll ...
Senator Cornyn lashed out today at Senate Majority Leader Reid and his Democrats for their unwillingness to consider amendments to the defense authorization bill that would prevent cuts to military pensions, and classify the Fort Hood shooting as an act of terrorism.
Dear Friends, As Ranking Member of the Senate Armed Services Committee (SASC), it is my responsibility to ensure that our brave servicemembers have the training and equipment they require; that our troops are receiving the benefits our country has promised; and that we provide for the common defense of America and our allies from global adversaries. This is made possible each year when Congress passes my committee's bill, the National Defense Authorization Act (NDAA), with strong bipartisan support to authorize money budgeted for the Department of Defense (DoD). But Congress has failed to act this year on Chairman Levin's and my bill, and the current one expires on Dec. 31. Time and again, the President and Senate Majority Leader Reid have neglected to prioritize America's national security and the support of our men and women in uniform. My committee has had the NDAA bill ready for debate since June of this year, but Reid delayed bringing it to the Senate floor until days before Thanksgiving recesses. He ...
"Here's the historical facts, if anyone is interested: On September 17, 2009, Congressman Charlie Rangel introduced a bill in the House, H.R. 3590, the "Service Members Home Ownership Tax Act of 2009," whose purpose was "to amend the Internal Revenue Code of 1986 to modify the first-time homebuyers credit in the case of members of the Armed Forces and certain other Federal employees." The bill passed the House on October 8 by a 416-0 vote. On November 19, Harry Reid introduced his own version of H.R. 3590 in the Senate. He took the bill that had been unanimously passed by the House, renamed it the "Patient Protection and Affordable Care Act," deleted all its contents after the first sentence, and replaced it with totally different content. What followed was the first pass of the Senate version of ObamaCare. In his majority opinion, Justice Roberts failed to even mention the bill’s legislative history. He ignored the Origination Clause problem presented by Senate Majority Leader Reid's “shell bill” a ...

Dear Supporter, As I was packing my bags and preparing to head back to Washington, D.C. after the Senate's one-week recess, I had one hope for today. No. It wasn't that I wouldn't be detained by the TSA this morning . . . AGAIN. Instead -- with so many important issues coming up before the Senate in the next few weeks -- my hope was that a few more of my colleagues actually bothered to listen to their constituents while they were home. But with so much at stake, I'm not taking anything for granted. That's why I'm asking you to sign the Defend Liberty Mandate to your U.S. Senators I've made up for you TODAY. As you'll see, the Defend Liberty Mandate urges your U.S. Senators to insist that border security is a central part of any "Immigration Reform" Bill. It also urges them to vote no on the new anti-gun assaults both President Obama and Senate Majority Leader Reid say WILL come back before Congress. With your help, my colleagues will quickly learn they have no choice but to start listening to the folks th ...
PLEASE think about this. You've seen the pictures and read about the gigantic migrations of the world into the U.S. during the long Ellis Island era. Can you even imagine what it will be like if the Senate passes S. 744 and gives green cards to that many and many more in just the next 10 years? Most Americans are asleep about this bill and have no idea how their entire way of life may be about to change forever. Rumors are that Senate Majority Leader Reid may file this next week to put the bill on the floor on Monday, June 10. We have very little time left to generate the massive public outcry that is necessary to defeat this bill. Around 7.3 million immigrants were given green cards in the decade of the 1980's. In the middle of the decade, Congress passed an amnesty for some 3 million illegal aliens and promised enforcement to stop future illegal immigration. Chain migration categories produced increases far above those promise. The enforcement never really happened, but employers got another big incre . ...
UPDATE: Sen. Coburn pulled from the floor the amendment requiring the government to report ammunition sales and missing firearms in order to prioritize the carry vote, that could pass. Unfortunately, too many Democrats were afraid to buck the White House and their leadership, so the amendment failed to get the 60 votes needed for passage. The Democrats who were not brave enough to vote for a pro-Second Amendment bill were Senate Majority Leader Reid and Sens. Leahy, Klobuchar, Wyden, Nelson and Bennet. Sens. Merkley, Udall and Warner were the only Democrats who are up for reelection in 2014 who switched their vote on the right to bear arms from four years ago. Eleven Democrats voted in favor: Sens. Tester, Pryor, Baucus, Begich, Donnelly, Hagan, Heidi Heitkamp of North Dakota, Joe Manchin of West Virginia, Pryor, Landrieu and Shaheen. Sen. Angus King, Maine Independent, also voted in favor. Sen. Mark Kirk of Illinois was the only Republican to vote against the right of Americans to bear arms in national p ...

What I wrote to my Senators, Representative, Senate Majority Leader Reid, and Speaker of the House Boehner. While I agree the people in the Northeast need to be helped and am appalled at how long it is taking for them to get said help, I lay the delay blame directly at the feet of Obama and Reid. Obama seemingly has disappeared after his initial “photo-op” by not saying anything pro or con about the Hurricane Sandy situation since then. He was the one that said the red tape would be done away with to expedite services. He was the one that said ALL phone calls would be answered within 15 minutes. What happened to his directives? Reid, while he may have actually got a bill passed by the Senate and turned over to the House for consideration, allowed the input of PORK that has nothing to do with Hurricane Sandy relief. Why can’t either the House or Senate put forth a bill and vote on it for its’ own merits? Why do members votes have to be BOUGHT to vote for bills rather than use their individual ...
