Bowlers need to use brains more: Dhoni India skipper Mahendra Singh Dhoni said it was the "same mistake" of losing wickets at crucial intervals which cost them the fourth one-dayer and handed an unassailable 3-0 lead to New Zealand in the five-game ODI series. "We committed the same mistakes when it comes to batting. We lost wickets at crucial times, which has been the case so far in this series," Dhoni said after India lost the fourth ODI by seven wickets. "But even then we were able to get close to 280-odd runs which I thought was good enough provided we bowled well on this wicket but that was not the case." Dhoni was livid with his fast bowlers and said the pacers gave too much width and bowled very short at Seddon Park: "Right from the start, we gave away too many boundaries." In the end, it was once again the bowling woes that hampered India in this series and Dhoni said the bowlers need to apply their mind and try to improvise: "When it comes to talent, we definitely have bowlers who can do well. ndia will kick off their New Zealand tour in January with an ODI in Napier. Auckland and Wellington will host the two Tests later in February and have also been given an ODI each. Hamilton, which missed out on the Tests, has been awarded two ODIs, meaning India won't be playing any games in New Zealand's South Island. NZC chief executive David White said the four ODI venues, the only ones in the country with permanent lights, were selected keeping in mind the international and domestic broadcasters' requests for day-night matches, as well as to cater to the needs of Indian fans in New Zealand. "We felt that with the Tests in Wellington and Auckland, that Hamilton was the best spot for a second one-dayer with a large Indian population on their doorstep," White said. Auckland's Eden Park, with its bigger capacity, also edged out Hamilton's Seddon Park to stage the first Test from February 6-10, while the second will be played in the country's premier Test venue, the Basin Reserve in Wellington from February ...

A catch worth 83,000 dollars: Kiwi fan 'd' Kieran Powell Agence France-Presse | Updated: January 08, 2014 12:31 IST Hamilton: A New Zealand cricket fan won NZ$100,000 ($83,000) on Wednesday after taking a spectacular catch in the crowd at a one-day international between the West Indies and the Black Caps in Hamilton. As part of a sponsorship promotion, brewer Tui pledged to make the payout to any spectator who made a one-handed catch while wearing one of its distinctive orange T-shirts when the ball cleared the boundary. With the series reaching its fifth and final match, it appeared the prize would go unclaimed, despite some brave failures, including a leaping man who sent boundary advertising hoardings flying in Queenstown last week in his eagerness to cash in. But Michael Morton finally snared the prize when he latched onto a six from West Indies opening batsman Kieran Powell on the grassy embankment at Seddon Park. "It's pretty unbelievable," he told Sky News. "I was sitting there next to my dad and . ...

10 things to know about Corey Anderson Meet the man who broke Afridi's record of a 37-ball hundred Corey Anderson will be remembered for a long time to come for breaking Shahid Afridi‘s 17-year-old record of the fastest century in one-day internationals. Anderson achieved the feat against West Indies today in just 36 balls. In his entire innings of 131* off 47 deliveries, he hit as many as 14 sixes and 6 fours. But who is Corey Anderson? Here are a few facts about him: 1. Corey Anderson received a playing contract from New Zealand Cricket in 2007, making him the youngest player in New Zealand first-class cricket history to gain a contract. 2. Anderson made his one-day debut against England on 16th June 2013. 3. Anderson made his Test debut against Bangladesh at Chittagong on 9th October 2013. 4. His nickname is ‘Coza’. 5. Shane Bond is the one cricketer he admires the most. 6. ‘Getting to travel to different places in New Zealand’, he thinks is the best thing about a professional cricketer. 7. S ...
Alistair Cook praises New Zealand duo England were ambushed by 'wounded soldier' Martin Guptill as New Zealand won the first one-day international by three wickets. Alastair Cook's tourists appeared to be on course for an opening victory at several stages, but in the end Guptill and New Zealand captain Brendon McCullum (69no) were triumphant and jubilant at Seddon Park. England failed to capitalise as they had hoped, put in to bat first, on three individual half-centuries from Ian Bell (64), Jonathan Trott (68) and Joe Root (56). Instead, Mitchell McClenaghan - who was unable to complete his final over because of a series-ending side strain - finished with four for 56 as England ran out of steam on 258 all out. ~SportsMan

"JUBILANT: Black Caps bowler Ian Butler celebrates with skipper Brendan McCullum after taking the wicket of England batsman Eoin Morgan at Seddon Park last night." Great day yesterday for Ian Butler, not only did he bowl out a Pom but but more importantly bought a new suitcase from me at so Did Hamish Rutherford and his Dad Ken bought a wallet.
McCullum, bowlers help NZ level series Hamilton, February 12 Captain Brendon McCullum led the way with the bat while his bowlers produced a disciplined display to beat England by 55 runs in the second Twenty20 international at Seddon Park on Tuesday and level the three-match series. McCullum had anchored New Zealand's innings to power them to 192 for six with 74 runs from 38 balls as he plundered England's attack for six boundaries and five sixes. Mitchell McClenaghan, who took two wickets in successive balls in the second over, Trent Boult and Ian Butler then put the power- packed England batting line-up under constant pressure with aggressive pace bowling. Butler finished with two for nine from four overs, while McClenaghan had two for 24. James Franklin mopped up the tail to finish with 4-15 off 3.3 overs. Jos Buttler produced a cameo of 54 but received little help as England were dismissed for 137 in 19.3 overs. England had won the first match at Eden Park in Auckland on Saturday by 40 runs, which was ...
McCullum Leads New Zealand To Comfortable Win: A brilliant innings of 74 from New Zealand captain Brendon McCullum helped his side level the Twenty20 series against England at Hamilton's Seddon Park. McCullum stopped the Black Caps innings from being derailed by a cluster of wickets and smashed 38 off the final two overs. Three sixes came off the penultimate over from England skipper Stuart Broad, with Jade...

Local Sports News Newbie Verma bags seven An unlikely cameo appearance last season kept Anurag Verma out of the record books for having one of the most prolific first-class cricket debuts yesterday in Hamilton. The Northern Knights seamer captured seven wickets as the hosts established a dominant hand in their sixth-round Plunket Shield match against the Auckland Aces at Seddon Park. It was the 22-year-old's second appearance in first-class cricket - he previously bowled four overs when making his shield debut last season against Otago in Dunedin as a mid-game replacement when B J Watling was called into the national squad. Had he not delivered those 24 balls, Verma's figures of 7-82 off 19 overs yesterday would have been the best bowling return by a debutant in the domestic first-class arena in 45 years. He was the spearhead in dismissing the visitors for 240 and by stumps, the SkyCity Knights were 88 runs behind with nine first-innings wickets in hand. When the four-day match began, it was hard to disti ...

Hamilton Sports News Unbeaten Knights hail returning test heroes The debatable maxim "never change a winning side" gets a theory test tonight when the Northern Knights chase their fourth successive HRV Cup victory. They take on the Otago Volts at Hamilton's Seddon Park with the inclusion of three Black Caps. Tim Southee, Kane Williamson and Daniel Flynn are all bound to start for the Twenty20 competition leaders, who will be without Corey Anderson and Trent Boult, with that duo named in the New Zealand T20 squad for South Africa. Southee will no doubt spearhead the SkyCity Knights' bowling line-up, with special responsibility on bowling in the dying stages of Otago's innings, while coach Grant Bradburn juggles with where to place Williamson and Flynn in a batting order which thumped 186 for 5 off 20 overs in their latest win over the Canterbury Wizards a fortnight ago. "It's a good headache situation - there's a number of different combinations we could utilise but that's a good problem to have," Bradburn ...
Plunket Shield update: weather has won the day at Seddon Park with this afternoon's drizzle forcing a premature end to the game. The Canterbury Wizards ended on 112/2 (Peter Fulton 68*) but it was the SKYCITY Northern Knights who played themselves into a winning position. Frustration yet again for the guys to come out with a draw, but congrats again on some significant milestones in this match - Graeme Aldridge breaking the all-time wicket-taking record, James Marshall breaking the all-time Northern Districts appearance record, another first-class century for Joey Yovich, a 5-for for G, and 50s from James Mitchell, Daryl Mitchell, BJ Watling and Corey Anderson. Let's put it all together again for the next round against Welly.

Fastest century in test cricket was a list rarely discussed untill one day internationals came along and batsmen started to express themselves more freely. Fastest ODI century is another list that hadn't attracted enough eyeballs before twenty20 cricket came along and batters became carefree.. Fastest T20 century is still an overambitious list as we've had only 6 individual hundreds in the shortest format so far but with increasing number of matches, this list too is bound to change. Richard Levi of South Africa, playing only his 2nd international match, mesmerised New Zealand at Seddon Park in Hamilton on 19 february 2012 with a 45 ball century. Kiwis knew little about this right handed bulky batsman and ended up bowling him on his pads repeatedly. Levi, taking advantage of short square boundaries, smashed 13 sixes and 5 fours in his unbeaten knock, equaling highest T20 score as well. Previously, Chris Gayle of West Indies held the record of fastest T20 century with his 50 ball ton against South Africans ...
