The Kiwanis Ravine heron colony has been hard hit by eagles this season, and our heron monitor estimates that half of the 90 or so nests have lost eggs and/or chicks (this includes nest 15E, seen on our heroncam). Some of the nests have been abandoned, some herons may re-nest – we just continue to wait and watch. Sometimes observing nature at work can be very hard. On a more uplifting note, the satellite colony in Commodore Park appears to have two new nests. For those who missed it, the great blue heron was on the front page of the Seattle Times on Saturday.

It’s about time. I think that what is happening all across this country is overdue. All the folks who occupied, along with all the folks who struggle and work each day to put food on their tables and make that next rent check, YOU are my constituency. I myself live paycheck to paycheck. I am not a rich man, like Obama or the Bushes. My Dad grew up in the little western Pennsylvania town of Greenville, and when we would visit in the Summer when I was a kid, I used to wander the banks of the river Shenango, wading knee-deep among tiger-lilies, catching fireflies in a jar. My Grandfather came back wounded from the trenches of World War I, and worked at Greenville Steel Car, building railroad cars. During the Great Depression, he grew potatoes and tomatoes in his gardens to help feed his neighbors and his community. I didn't know that hardship, but that is where I learned to love and respect Roosevelt and the New Deal, and that is why I can't stand the idea of anyone tearing down what FDR built up to get th ...

Short History lesson on propaganda and power. Concerning the second amendment issue; one only has to look to the past, to see their potential future. All it takes is one incident (real or manufactured), to begin this cycle of fabrications and lies. When reading this, replace communist with conservative - Hitler for Holder - Hindenburg for Obama: February 28, the Hitler regime persuaded President Paul von Hindenburg to issue an emergency decree, based on Article XLVIII of the Constitution (a provision passed by the Weimar republic), suspending constitutional guarantees and authorizing the Reich to seize executive power in any State which failed to take “the necessary measures for the restoration of law and order.” The official explanation was that evidence of “imminent Communist terrorism” was discovered in a search of the Karl Liebnecht House, Berlin's Communist headquarters, and that Communists were responsible for the Reichstag (German Parliament) fire of the night before. The decree was adopted ...
There is an order to nature! God is nature! And the way we see life and the way we believe! Has to do with whether we believe in the order of nature or the order of man! It's as simple as that! This whole conversation about who's right and wrong on this issue or any other issue comes down to who or what you love the most! The way of God or the way of man! -HG- PS, And I challenge anybody to prove that because I take a certain stance on any given issue! I don't love my brothers and my sisters who choose to do what they choose to do!

Thunder, please move back to Seattle & reclaim your true namesake - the Supersonics. OKC doesn't deserve a team - their fans are *** The fact that they booed Beverley (every time he touched the ball) because Westbrook got injured when Beverley tried to make a steal is sheer insanity. Personally, I like Scotty Brooks, as he as a former Rocket, but the Hack-a-Asik gimmick strategy was totally lame. 3-2 coming back to Houston.
On the first day, man created beer, and it was good. They may have created some other useless crap before that like fire or something, but nobody really cares. Then man created hardcore, and it was also kind of awesome. Then man, while under the influence of its greatest creation (beer), got a bright idea. To combine the two. Take six of the finest, beer-swillingest hardcore DJs the world has ever known, disguise their identities behind the names of six of the most deliciously drinkable beers ever created, and create an epic mashup the world had not seen since the first time somebody got it in their head to mix peanut butter and jelly. To create a single cohesive mix, recorded by six DJs across North America, that would be so epic, the world would be raising drinks in its honor for years to come. Thus, the Ice Cold Hardcore 6-Pack was born. Unconfirmed reports state that beer sales spiked over 700% that day. Humanity quickly realized that this was one good idea that should never be allowed to fall into a ...

The chef at a hotel in Switzerland lost a finger in a meat cutting machine and after a little shopping around, submitted a claim to his insurance company. The company expecting negligence sent out one of its men to have a look for himself. He tried the machine and he also lost a finger. The chef's claim was approved. 3. All I ever wanted was to make people smile, to get them to laugh, in hopes that I'd be accepted and loved. From an early age I knew that I was socially retarded and couldn't communicate properly with people. But I soon found out that I could bipass all the small talk and the complexities of social interactions if I just acted like an *** and persuaded people to chuckle via some light humor. And I excelled! My father passed away when I was 2 years old, he smoked some weed that was laced with something and the people he was with panicked and left without assisting him in any way. So growing up without a father or any make role model, I had no one to teach me the basic fundamentals of sports, mechanics, hunting, fishing, building etc. comedy was my only approach towards any social encounter. My mother, wanting a better life for her children, worked multiple jobs in order to send them to private school, hoping to offer them a greater educational opportunity than she felt that she had bestowed before her. So . ...

So this is my first time in Seattle, well in the airport at least. I feel like I should be listening to Nirvana or Pearl Jam. Instead, all they're playing in the terminal is elevator music. So grunge.

Seattle University sent me a denial of admission e-mail a few hours ago. Nonplussed and aware of where I'm destined to go, here is what they received in their inbox in response just a few moments ago: Dear Mr. Bender/Ms. Cochran, Thank you for your letter of rejection. After careful consideration, I regret to inform you that I am unable to accept your refusal to offer me admission to Seattle University School of Law. This year, I have been particularly fortunate in receiving two rejection letters: one from Nova Southeastern University and Georgetown University. With such a varied and promising field of firms, it is impossible for me to accept all refusals. Despite your outstanding qualifications and previous experience in rejecting applicants, I find that your rejection letter does not meet with my needs at this time, therefore, I will initiate admission with this institution starting in the fall of this calendar year. I look forward to beginning classes on a full scholarship with this prestigious institu ...

I have been a bit of a free-thinker throughout my life with an ability to come to my own conclusions. Sometimes I keep my conclusions to myself, but usually I'm pretty open about them. This caused issues for me last year with the rightwing of my political party. Now it's causing problems with people on the left. The City of Washougal Council decided to invite its residents to a forum this Saturday to discuss the controversial Columbia River Crossing project. What this project involves exactly is a little fluid right now, but will probably involve tolls--at least on the I-5 bridge and perhaps the 205 bridge plus light rail. One individual has suggested that I am being pressured to bring this forward and trying to rig the forum. That is nonsense. The forum was suggested by another councilmember and I am able to arrive at my own conclusions about the project. This individual also suggests that Washougal taking a position on this project would be meaningless, i.e., "the matter ain't open for discussion" ...

We found out today from the Dr. that Ed has Chronic Lymphocytic Luekemea/Lymphoma. It is cancer of the blood and not curable, but it is in stage 0 and could remain there for a long time, or act up at any time. If and when it should become active they can do treatment and it could go back into remission. A lot of people have this type of cancer and have lived a long life with it. What they are having Ed do, is go back every month for blood work to keep an eye on it. They also took another sample of blood to see if there is any indication that this could be a fast moving type of cancer.

prophet Anuoluwapo oluwagbenga What Do You Know? I Know that I will Make it through the End Times! 1 John 2:15-27 & 4:1-6 March 3rd 2013 Intro: A. [Preparing for Judgment, Citation: Jon Mutchler, Ferndale, Washington; source: Seattle Times (3-27-00)] On March 26, 2000, Seattle’s famed Kingdome—home of the Seattle Seahawks, Mariners, and at times, the Super Sonics—was destroyed. Maryland-based Controlled Demolition Incorporated was hired to do the job of imploding the 25,000-ton structure that had marked Seattle’s skyline for two dozen years. Remarkable about the event was the extreme measures taken to ensure no one was hurt. CDI had experience with over 7,000 demolitions and knew how protect people. Engineers checked and rechecked the structure. The authorities evacuated several blocks around the Kingdome. Safety measures were in place to allow the countdown to stop at any time if there was concern about safety. All workers were individually accounted for by radio before the explosives were detona ...

have been a fan of the 49ers since the start of our Glory years in the 80's. And from what i have seen and understand what this football franchise stands for since 1981,is it's always been about winning Superbowls. And with that it starts with brilliant coaching and of course it always starts with the QB. Now after seeing and understanding what i know about what this 49ers team is about ,why are there questions about the decisions being made by the coach of the team. Which all he is doing is understanding what this 49er football team is all about. We are not a Mediocre football Franchise organization,In our past history we have won 5 SB's in a 13 year span faster than any franchise football team in the NFL. So with finally having a great coach and a great QB once again, who are we to even try to not support that? It's pretty ignorant as a fan of this football team if you are not aware of what this football team is all about... We are the San Francisco 49ers and we are about winning Superbowls.
Hello Seattle, feels good to be back in your beautiful city again. See you tomorrow!
Celebrating David's Birthday in Downtown Seattle we had a great night
Anyone know the law? I live in 1 unit of a 3 unit nicely restored Victorian by the lake/whole foods area. My roommate and I have been here for over 3 years- 1st yr in a lease; month to month since then. Question: Is landlord allowed to move into our apt. Just because he wants a place for "a couple months to a year"? We just sucked it up and figured we'd move this march 1st. But it's proving difficult and we're not entirely sure we have to move, without compensation or the landlord residing here for 2- maybe 3 years. I don't know the oakland law here. So if anyone could even share a couple words with me on this it'd be helpful. ASAP is necessary as we just may have to be out by the 1st. But if we are due relocation money or something I'd love to know. Thanks a million in advance. -Uriah

Another one I had to share: *Imagination!* Especially for my girls and their children, no matter what age.It is fun to sit in the backyard or lie down on a blanket and just watch the sky...Gonzo and I would put a blanket over a twin size mattress in the bed of my truck and just watch the skies...talking and laughing about what we saw. Thanks Tom! He said: An art so important to me when I was young is almost extinct today. It is the art of imagination. As a youth we watched very little TV, most of our time was spent out playing our favorite characters in make believe land, expanding our minds to explore in those ideas that were not real except in our imaginary worlds. Traveling to exotic places and defending our homes from flying dragons. We would lie in the tall grass in the summer and imagine that the clouds were different floating animals and that being a kid would last forever. Now as an old man I sit on my porch looking at the clouds in the sky and remember my imaginary world. A tear wells in my eyes . ...
