Last night'e episode of "Saturday Night Live" was actually pretty good. Woody Harrelson was a solid host; as he was back in 1992 when he last hosted. It was good to see an episode filled with mostly original ideas and an overall effort by the cast and Woody Harrelson to put on a good show. Woody Harrelson and castmembers Taran Killam and Kate Mckinnon were the best performers of the night. However, the whole cast did fine overall throughout the show. Even "Weekend Update" anchor Colin Jost did a decent job; as a couple of his jokes and even his delivery made me laugh. Thus, a good improvement over Chris Rock's episode; which was a surprising letdown-- mostly due to very weak sketches and not-so-great performances by the cast. I hope Woody Harrelson hosts the show again at some point. He and Jim Carrey have given us the best episodes of the season-- while they and former castmember Bill Hader have been the best hosts so far. Thus, a good show last night. Hopefully, Cameron Diaz's show is good as well. We . ...

'Saturday Night Live' replaces Cecily Strong with Michael Che at the 'Weekend Update' desk
What the *** Saturday Night Live?? Cecily Strong won't be on Weekend Update anymore? BOOO I say. BOO!
Comedian/writer Michael Che will replace Cecily Strong on the "Weekend Update" anchor desk for "Saturday Night Live's" 40th season.

Che, the first Black host of “Weekend Update”, will join Colin Jost. Cecily Strong, who served as co-anchor for two seasons, first with Seth Meyers and then with Jost, will return to being a full-time cast member.

Gilda Susan Radner (June 28, 1946 – May 20, 1989) She was best known as an original cast member of Saturday Night Live, for which she won an Emmy Award in 1978. Between 1975 and 1980, she created characters such as obnoxious personal advice expert Roseanne Roseannadanna and "Baba Wawa", a parody of Barbara Walters. Walters stated in an interview that Radner was the "first person to make fun of news anchors, now it's done all the time." She also played the character Emily Litella, an elderly hearing-impaired woman who gave angry and misinformed editorial replies on "Weekend Update". In addition, Radner parodied celebrities such as Lucille Ball, Patti Smith, and Olga Korbut in SNL sketches. In 1986, Gilda was diagnosed with ovarian cancer, which a few women in her family had died from. After treatment, she went into remission, and appeared to be in good spirits. However, the cancer returned and was more aggressive. Her husband, actor Gene Wilder, was by her side when she died at age 42. Gilda Radner was b ...

Saturday Night Live writer and stand up comedian Leslie Jones made her Weekend Update debut this week, and she did not waste time getting straight to the jokes about slave sex. Unsurprisingly, this was met with a mixed (but mostly negative) reception.
Comedian and writer Leslie Jones received criticism over the weekend for a bit she did during the Weekend Update on “Saturday Night Live.” In the bit, Jones joked that her love life would have been much better in the slave days, calling herself “the No. 1 slave draft pick.”
Is it me, or has Saturday Night Live gotten nastier this year? There seem to be a lot more mean-spirited jokes, as well as jokes in really poor taste, such as the bit during Weekend Update last night regarding slavery. If they were doing a take-off on the Nevada extremist's comments, it fell flat. Just seems like there is something like that every week now. Am I getting old and crotchety, or are they getting desperate?

Without many people noticing, Saturday Night Live has been rocking one of its very finest seasons in years. The new cast has chops, and the writers have almost completely abandoned set pieces where the same jokes occur over and over again - the exception being the always funny Shalin sketches in the classroom. The political stuff is still mostly lame - in a world with Jon Stewart and Stephen Colbert, I don't know why they keep doing Weekend Update or the cold opens at all. But most weeks, there are a lot of laughs, and they come from places of genuine weirdness, kind of the way things were in the first season all those years ago when nobody knew what this show was going to be. Oh, and Ed Sheeran last night was pretty darn cool - one of the two or three best musical acts I've seen this year on SNL.

Every single episode of Saturday Night Live has a joke about Florida on Weekend Update. Sadly always based on a true news story.
Tonight's Saturday Night Live was one of the best I've seen in a while. And not just because of Anna Kendrick, but the skits were all funny, there was no awkward staring at the teleprompters, Weekend Update is still the best part of the show and Anna Kendrick WAS fantastic. (Drake and Jonah Hill eps were terrible) Maybe it's because she can actually act? Seriously, Dongs, Les Juenes de Paris, Big John... And The Little Mermaid was priceless.

It's time for "Yes or B.S." We give you a statement, and you decide . . . YES, it's true . . . or NO, it's total B.S. "Late Night with Seth Meyers" premieres tonight on NBC, so that's today's topic. 1. Seth Meyers and Will Ferrell arrived at "Saturday Night Live" the same year. B.S. Will joined the cast in 1995. Seth didn't get there until 2001. 2. While Seth Meyers was a cast member on "Saturday Night Live", his brother was a cast member on the competing sketch comedy show "MADtv". Yes: His younger brother Josh Meyers was on "MADtv" from 2002 to 2004. 3. When Seth first started doing "Weekend Update", it was alongside Tina Fey. B.S. He REPLACED Tina when she left the show in 2006, and originally did "Weekend Update" with Amy Poehler. (Last month, "SNL" announced that Cecily Strong and head writer Colin Jost will be doing it now.) 4. Seth co-wrote the 2010 movie "MacGruber". B.S. Former cast member Bill Hader seemed to abandon that rule whenever he played Stefon, a club kid invited on to "Weekend Update" to give his terrible and hilarious ideas for places to go in New York City. Part of the giddiness was the character, Hader explained in an interview. However, writer and friend John Mulaney also tried to make him laugh with last-minute line changes. Just finished watching last Saturday's episode of Saturday Night Live. It was funny. Jonah Hill was last Saturday's episode's host. I liked the skit where he's having dinner with Kenan Thompson and a few of those other guys and he said "Excuse me for one moment" and then he walked into the bathroom and started yelling about stuff. It was so hilarious. They also did the Weekend Update skit with one of my favorite comedians Seth Meyers who will start his late night show next month i believe so he'll be leaving SNL very soon and the Weekend Update had one of my all time favorite SNL cast members Cecily Strong. It may as well have been called "Marissa Mayer and her celebrity friends at CES." All is right with my little world this weekend; I finally got to see my pals Candace and Anthony after taking on an insane work schedule for the past five weeks, Paul Mccartney and Barry Gibb hugged at the closing of "Saturday Night Live" after pretty much the entire show hit it out of the ballpark, I got to debut the band new song "Mele Kalikimaka" from sparkle*jets u.k. that they just completed last night on a cruise ship between the islands on KONI 104.7 FM this past half hour (Mahalo Michael Simmons), looking forward to exchanging cat hair ball stories with Leslie during a Lahaina sunset and of course, it's just another Sunday where my crush on Cecily Strong only gets stronger. I only hope that her schedule as an anchor with Weekend Update doesn't interfere with our wedding.
[Jimmy Fallon, Justin Timberlake on 'SNL': 5 Things to Watch For Jimmy Fallon and Justin Timberlake are returning to Saturday Night Live this week in what should be a fitting sendoff for 2013. There's a lot that could happen, but below we count down five of the most likely. Duck Dynasty Nothing screams "cold open" quite like this week's uproar over Duck Dynasty patriarch Phil Robertson. Before Thanksgiving, "Saturday Night Live's" Aidy Bryant took to "Weekend Update" as "The Worst Lady on an Airplane" to share some essential travel tips.
Dear Saturday Night Live, I understand the challenges of writing a weekly sketch show are far more daunting than the average Sunday morning armchair comedy writer realizes, but, in the future, please consider implementing the following rule when creating the line up for each week's program: "No character(s) shall make an appearance more than once per season, with the exception of those drawn from political and current events, and, of course, Weekend Update." It's just that... we got the joke the first time. Sincerely, Unemployed Amateur Comedy Writer
In honor of the Gettysburg Address anniversay, you should watch this bit from Weekend Update last week:

'SNL' Unveils Host, Musical Act for Show's Season 39 Premiere USA Today NBC's "Saturday Night Live" has announced hosts and musical acts for the first few episodes of the upcoming 39th season, and the headline is the return of former "Weekend Update" anchor Tina Fey to host the premiere. USA Today reports that Fey will host the Sept. 28 season opener, with Arcade Fire on tap as the musical act. The appearance will be Fey's fourth as guest host since she left "SNL" in 2006 to launch "30 Rock." Arcade Fire will also be making its fourth appearance. "For Week 2 on Oct. 5, Miley Cyrus, who made a grindingly big splash at MTV's Video Music Awards, will both host and perform as the musical guest," the story reports. "And Oct. 12, actor Bruce Willis returns for his second hosting stint, joined by Katy Perry, promoting her upcoming album 'Prism.'" The report adds: "Still no word on how producer Lorne Michaels plans to replenish the Not Ready for Prime Time Players lineup. 'SNL' lost Bill Hader, Fred Armisen and J ...
I watched the Showtime special on Richard Pryor last night. It awakened in me a few things that are annoying, in that I didn't figure them out without prompting. First, Dave Chappelle's act is a direct take-off of Pryor's. His imitation of whites is almost a mimic of Pryor's. No problem with that. My comedy steals as much as possible from the late, great Bill Hicks. Next, a Saturday Night Live skit with an exchange of racial epithets between Chevy Chase and Pryor exposed modern America as a candy *** zone where you really can't say anything of a charged nature at all. The 2 men are facing each other at the Weekend Update news desk. *** , fires Chase. *** , retorts Pryor. "Spear Chucker", volleys Chase. "Honky", spits Pryor. Per cultural rules, I can't finish the skit. Nice. Also in the documentary, Pryor absolutely eviscerated the cloying, retarded Dinah Shore as she minced coquettishly on her show, saying she couldn't even say the name of his album "That *** s Crazy". The outcry over In ...

Bill Hader's Weekend Update persona on Saturday Night Live never fails to amuse with questionable NYC club suggestions.
Sadness. Bill Hader is leaving Saturday Night Live, which means no more Stefon on Weekend Update after this week. I am already bummed out.
Bill Hader of "Saturday Night Live" is leaving. Since joining the show in 2005, Hader has brought to life numerous characters on "SNL." Among his most popular are Stefon, an over-the-top, *** New York correspondent on "Weekend Update"; talk-show host Vinny Vedecci; and Dwayne Vogelcheck of the nearly incestuous "kissing family," just to name a few.
Fred Armisen demonstrated Google Glass, the all-the-rage wearable computer, on Saturday Night Live. Let's just say Armisen, as Weekend Update tech correspondent Randall Meeks, found a few flaws in the device.
For the last 14 years or so one thing in my life that could be guranteed is that I would tune in the TV or watch my recording longing to hear those awesome words Live From New York it's Saturday Night. "There was a widespread belief Sarah Palin had said 'I can see Russia from my house!' According to a pre-election survey, a majority of the likely voters leaning towards Obama actually believed she had made this dumb statement. "They planned to vote against her because of it, but in fact, Palin had said no such thing. Actress Tina Fey, impersonating Palin in a comedy skit on 'Saturday Night Live' said it. It was a joke but because so many of the LIVs are younger people who get much, if not most, of their information from 'fake news' shows like SNL's 'Weekend Update', 'The Daily Show', and 'Colbert Report.'

A presidential election, the loss of key castmembers and a few bold hosting choices were among 2012's big moments for Saturday Night Live. One of Bill Hader's more popular characters on Saturday Night Live is Stefon, Weekend Update’s flamboyant correspondent. Often, writer John Mulaney will change the jokes in a sketch right before the sketch airs. Many of the new lines catch Hader off-guard, making him break character and laugh. Mulaney also often changes the cue cards so that Hader will read something he didn’t expect to read and get a genuine laugh.

I've watched Saturday Night Live since it started in 1975. I was then a freshman in college, and we would all gather in the Wright Hall lounge to watch it. We'd never seen anything like it. When I am at the house, I usually leave the television on and listen to the news to see what is going on in the world. Lately, something will really catch me off guard, and I have to check to see if I am on a "real news station", or if the channel has been switched to a re-run of the "Simpsons", or "The Weekend Update" (from Saturday Night Live). Today, I heard that Romney made a campaign stop in Cornhole, PA. The other day, I was stopped in my tracks when I overheard Obama say, "The private sector is doing fine". These are strange times when the news is more outlandish, and comedic than any sitcom, or political satire.
