'Saturday Night Live' takes dig at Johnny Manziel in Super Bowl sketch
I just had a rather rich question asked to me from someone I know... Would I still be a fan of college football if the NCAA required that student athletes had to maintain a 3.5 GPA and pursuing a degree of merit and worth? Because majors like say...Communications...are worthless and made up so that student athletes can have an easy ride. (Their words, not mine) Well, there's this one quarterback that I'm sure the entire nation has heard of and recieved a communications degree. He has endorsed major companies for 10's of millions of dollars including one that he owns 15+ franchises, set NFL records, appeared on Saturday Night Live twice, has a Super Bowl ring and many other accolades. However his most important attribute relating to his degree is how well versed and comfortable he is at public speaking. That single quality developed at the university level is one of the reasons he's so successful today. Thank you, Peyton Manning for proving your degree isn't worthless. Maybe someone who isn't really ...

Broncos quarterback Peyton Manning's conversion As this year's Super Bowl approaches, all eyes are on the weather. Hall of Fame player Mike Ditka calls the decision to play the game outside in New Jersey "stupid." Others think it's a "great idea." As of this morning, the high on Sunday is forecast to be 36 degrees, with possible snow showers. While some are watching conditions in the sky, this week we're thinking about the players on the ground. Each day we'll discover the Christian commitment of one of the Super Bowl athletes. Yesterday we learned the faith story of the Seattle Seahawks' quarterback, Russell Wilson; today we'll hear from Peyton Manning, quarterback of the Denver Broncos. This season, Manning scored more touchdowns and passed for more yards than any quarterback in history. He is famous for his charity work, very funny commercials, and numerous appearances on TV shows such as Saturday Night Live. What is not as well known is that he has been a committed Christian for more than two d ...

HOW TOUGH IS SOCCER.??.. Soccer requires tremendous cardiovascular endurance, as players must engage in 90 minutes of jogging, striding, running and sprinting. American football requires explosive strength every 20 to 40 seconds as a play is called and executed. The running back, wide receivers, cornerbacks and safeties require overall fitness analogous to that of a soccer player. In soccer, obese players such as football linemen are unheard of. And soccer players do not require an oxygen mask after a sprint, as Pittsburgh Steelers linebacker James Harrison did at the 2009 Super Bowl, becoming the subject of a skit on "Saturday Night Live." Strength Offensive and defensive line players in football typically weigh 300 lbs., with William "the Fridge" Perry pushing the scale during his playing career up to 380 lbs. A typical offensive tackle, the heaviest position, weighs 318 lbs. Brute force is required for this collision sport, whereas soccer is a contact sport that women can play and master at the elite l ...
Talk Back: Are the Newtown kids being exploited? Suddenly, the Newtown kids are stars. Shortly after the massacre at Sandy Hook Elementary school, they popped up on "Saturday Night Live." It was a touching moment -- we thought that would be it. But now, they seem to be everywhere. At the Super Bowl, at a Knicks game. There's even a movie in the works about a mentally ill child -- whose illness is triggered by the tragedy. To some close to Newtown -- it's crossed the line. Rudy Marconi, first selectman of Ridgefield, says: "The bottom line to us is anything, whether it's based on, inspired by mental health that concerns Newtown and that tragedy the wound is still way too fresh for anything to be done like that." And now we learn the "E" network, home of Joan Rivers, The Fashion Police, and the Kardashians, will feature the Newtown kids in the Grammy red carpet pre-show. They'll be singing the wildly popular song, "Call Me Maybe." You know -- the one about the girl who pines over a guy who's *** Call me ...
Eisenberg: Game Will Be Decided By Ray Lewis by John Eisenberg This is a Ray Lewis story that isn't about deer antler spray or revisiting Atlanta or how he is inspiring his teammates. It isn't about the Saturday Night Live spoof or the “last ride” or whether he might dance his way out of the tunnel Sunday. With all due respect to those myriad other ways he has made his way into the headlines this week, this is a Ray Lewis story about … sorry … football. As you may know, this clattering week of hype and chatter does, in fact, culminate with (whew) a game, one in which Lewis will play a crucial role. You could even say the outcome of Sunday's Super Bowl between the Ravens and San Francisco 49ers rests on his shoulders in a way. Here's my thinking: As stout as the 49ers are on defense, they aren't going to stop the Ravens' offense cold – not on a fast, indoor track with Joe Flacco on such a roll. The Ravens are going to put up some points. The big question is whether their defense can slow down qua ...
