Saturday Night Live’ star Jan Hooks dead at 57 NBC/NBC via Getty Images Jan Hooks, who died Thursday, recently portrayed Verna on ’30 Rock’ but was perhaps best known for her stint on ‘Saturday Night Live.’ Jan Hooks, who shot to fame in the 1980s on “Saturday Night Live,” died Thursday, according to reports. The 57-year-old actress had been struggling with an undisclosed illness, said TMZ.com, which first reported her death. Hooks died Thursday morning, the website reported. A versatile performer, Hooks worked alongside some of the “SNL” greats and held her own. She was most recognized for her signature skit playing an acid-tongued Southern belle with an improbable twang. Hooks was on the show from 1986 to 1991 and her co-stars included Chris Farley, Dana Carvey, Mike Myers and Dennis Miller. She credited colleague Phil Hartman for getting her past her crippling stage fright. In one of her most popular bits, she played half of the Sweeney sisters with Nora Dunn. NBC/NBC via Getty Ima ...
Love is a Dream is the Saturday Night Live musical fantasy film Neal Marshad produced and photographed collaborating with writer/director Tom Schiller and actors Phil Hartman and Jan Hooks. Love is a Dream became the last tribute to Phil at the finale of the SNL: Best of Phil Hartman compilation show in a special send off by all the current and past SNL cast members who worked with Phil including Candice Bergen, Dana Carvey, Danny DeVito, Will Ferrell, Chris Kattan, Steve Martin, Mike Myers, Chris Rock, Adam Sandler, and William Shatner. Al Franken was one of the writers along with Conan O'Brien.
Chris Farley was originally cast as Shrek and even recorded part of the dialogue. However, after his death, the role was given to fellow Saturday Night Live (1975) performer, Mike Myers. Shrek's "air quotes" in the film is an homage to Farley, whose character Bennett Brauer also used air quotes.

We stumbled upon this little gem of *** Jagger and Mike Myers on Saturday Night Live. What do you think of *** s Keith Richards impression?
The Second City - Saturday, February 1, 2014 at 7:30pm at Harbison Theatre at Midlands Technical College. The Saturday Night Live talent pipeline has flowed straight from this Chicago-based sketch comedy troupe since the days of John Belushi, Bill Murray and Gilda Radner, while more recent SNL alums include Amy Poehler, Jason Sudeikis, Mike Myers and Tina Fey. These smart, cutting-edge comedians will have you begging them to stop cutting up.
During his eight years on "Saturday Night Live" (1986-1994), Phil Hartman, who would have turned 65 on September 24, was known as "The Glue." He "never gave up on a sketch" and was unfailingly supportive of cast members, said Mike Myers, who added: "I just worshiped Phil." When he was shot and kille...
On this day in 1989, Mike Myers had his first episode as a cast member on Saturday Night Live.
On this day in 1993, Wayne's World 2--the sequel to the 1992 hit comedy starring Mike Myers and Dana Carvey as a pair of long-haired, heavy-metal-loving slackers who produce a cable access TV show from their basement--opens in theaters. Co-written by Myers, Wayne's World was based on a popular sketch from TV's Saturday Night Live featuring the Aurora, Illinois-based high school friends Wayne Campbell (Myers) and Garth Algar (Carvey), who host a show in which they play air guitar and hold forth on such topics as women and the god-like status of their musical idols, Aerosmith. Wayne and Garth popularized a long list of catchphrases, including: "Party on," "We're not worthy" and "Excellent!" Skits from Saturday Night Live, which debuted on NBC in 1975, have inspired a string of films, including The Blues Brothers (1980), Coneheads (1993) and A Night at the Roxbury (1998). Wayne's World is the highest grossing of these movies to date, while Wayne's World 2 comes in third, behind The Blues Brothers. Wayne Camp ...
Day 19: My complaint for the day: I participate in No-Shave November. This year, my beard is coming in nicely, but I have one of those painful ingrown hairs, or zits, or something right at the base of my mustache. I can't get rid of it, or even touch it, without it hurting, but I don't want to shave part of my mustache to see what it is, or expose it to the world. I wish my facial hair had self-healing powers. My thanks for the day: Season 17 of Saturday Night Live. I still watch on Netflix. David Spade, Chris Rock, Adam Sandler, Victoria Jackson, Dana Carvey, Phil Hartman, Kevin Nealon, Tim Meadows, Mike Myers, Ellen Cleghorne, Melanie Hutsell, Chris Farley & Julia Sweeney were the perfect ensemble cast. This is also my thanks for Day 19 of 1993.
-- "Schwing!" (Mike Myers and Dana Carvey as Wayne and Garth, "Saturday Night Live")
To contemplate Michael Jordan turning 50 on Sunday is to witness one's youth floating out with the tide, the water as merciless in its mission as Jordan was in his prime. He is in the sweet spot of the old "Saturday Night Live" sketch featuring Mike Myers, "Middle Aged Man," about a guy who was olde...
On the show "Saturday Night Live", Mike Myers' character, Linda Richman, was based on his mother-in-law.
In 1989, after publishing, at 81, his first collection of poems, Jimmy Stewart was spoofed as a guest on Sprockets, the Saturday Night Live satire of German artiness. Stewart, played by Dana Carvey, explained to the host, Dieter (Mike Myers), how he came to write such poems as "Old Rocking...
Remember the Saturday Night Live skit where Mike Myers used to get "Verklimpt" and say " things like "Cream cheese- chives or pineapple? talk amongst yourselves?" Those of you who still have enough stomach left to continue following the Presidential Campaign: " Mitt Romney: Bipartisan or Bipolar?" Talk among yourselves
I do believe that the best years of Saturday Night Live were the ones that Mike Myers and Dana Carvey were on...two words...Wayne's World!
Men from SNL (Saturday Night Live) easily break through in the Movies, Dan Aykroyd, Bill Murray, Billy Crystal, Adam Sandler, Mike Myers to name a few. But these past years the table turns, it is now the women from SNL who are making waves, there are Tina Faye and Amy Phoeler, and now comes Kristen Wiig, which keep me laughing in a 2 hour comedy flick, Bridesmaids.
For the past few years I've slowly been making my way through the entire run of Saturday Night Live. Now I'm finally up to 1989 when Mike Myers joined the cast.
Personal log, Stardate 2012.181 - Upon seeing the movie "Brave", which was brilliant by the way, I can't help but be reminded of Mike Myers' old "All Things Scottish" routine on Saturday Night Live and put Pixar in place of Scottish. "Welcome to All things Pixar. If it's not Pixar, IT'S CRAP!" Put simply, I'm proud to be an animation snob.

Ok, funny perspective on tonight...Almost entire cast of Weeds at the Hotel Cafe tonight supporting Hunter Parrish's show with me running sound. Night turned into nightmare because Sophie B. Hawkins played earlier and brought in her own sound engineer who re-configured the whole EQ and sound system, which ended up causing all kinds of problems later on, even though he knew what he was doing and helped in certain ways. He was a colorful scottish dude that kind of reminded me of Mike Myers' characters on Saturday Night Live ("if it's not scottish, it's crap!")...After Sophie's set, I had to struggle my *** off to get the Hotel sound system back to the normal good sound that we are known for, which included an intense decision to change the whole EQ preset in the middle of Hunter's show in order to eliminate the feedback and sonic issues I was getting that were making us (me) look bad. Luckily, it worked and I was able to get things back to sounding great again and everyone was happy. I feel like I aged 3 ye ...
