Fun Fact of the Day...SNL Blacklist...Louise Lasser, star of soap opera parody "Mary Hartman, Mary Hartman" was the first performer banned from Saturday Night Live (1976) Lasser was said to be going through "personal problems" at the time and was often nearly incoherent throughout the broadcast. She refused to appear in any sketches unless she was in them alone, or if her only costar was Chevy Chase. She was married to Woody Allen for 4 years and now lives in New York. Other performers banned by Lorne Michaels include.Adrian Brody, Steven Seagal, Charles Grodin, Chevy Chase, Cypress Hill, Frank Zappa, Martin Lawrence, Robert Blake, Fear, Andy Kaufman, Milton Berle, The Replacements and.of course...Sinead O'Connor. Nothing compares to you... being so bad that you get banished from a show known for pushing the limits.

Jimmy Fallon has shown that his political humor is definitely left-leaning and it brings up the obvious point just made in a New York Magazine interview by longtime "Saturday Night Live" boss Lorne Michaels, who is helping to run both the Fallon show and the new Seth Meyers show after him on NBC. When asked about the rules for political satire, Michaels replied: "Republicans are easier for us than Democrats. Democrats tend to take it personally; Republicans think it's funny." Republicans can laugh at themselves, even when they're being mocked. Not Democrats. They have thin skin because they expect every comedian to fall at their feet - like Fallon does with the Obamas.

When Leno outmaneuvered Letterman to take the Tonight Show 22 years ago, it was big news, resulting in a book and movie, both titled "The Late Shift." But, nobody is talking about the "late shift" that happened this time. So, here's the way it went down: Late Night with Conan O'Brien was owned by Lorne Michaels, producer and co-creator of Saturday Night Live. Conan pushed for the Tonight Show, and threatened to leave NBC if he didn't get it. He accepted a deal that gave him the Tonight Show, but several years down the line. NBC was afraid he would leave. They shouldn't have been, because CBS had Letterman, Fox had a string of failures at 11:30, and ABC was, at the time, still content with Nightline and Politically Incorrect, before Bill Maher self-destructed that show (which I created, and which Billy and his manager and my childhood friend, Brad Grey, stole from me). NBC didn't ask Leno if he wanted out to let Conan in. They told him he was out. Leno made a choice, as a corporate minded guy, to ac ...

It's a definite no-no to laugh — or break — while performing a skit on "Saturday Night Live." Former cast member Bill Hader seemed to abandon that rule whenever he played Stefon, a club kid invited on to "Weekend Update" to give his terrible and hilarious ideas for places to go in New York City. Part of the giddiness was the character, Hader explained in an interview. However, writer and friend John Mulaney also tried to make him laugh with last-minute line changes. "Usually I start to break towards the end and that's because John [Mulaney] has changed the words or people are just laughing around me. My take on Jay Leno's forced resignation while on top: Lorne Michaels has taken over NBC Late Night programming, as well as some prime time stuff. "The Tonight Show" with Jimmy Fallon will become a daily Saturday Night Live, followed by the Seth Myers Hour (or whatever they call it). But wait!...there's more! Andy Samberg has an unwatchable show (Brooklyn 99), Amy Poehler on "Parks and Recreation", and I know there are others. Jay Leno's rating have been among his highest ever lately...whose idea was it to fire him, you buncha geniuses?

Democrats can't take a joke, according to "Saturday Night Live" creator Lorne Michaels.
Republicans are easier to make fun of because they will laugh at jokes about them while Democrats will take jokes about them personally, Lorne Michaels, producer of Saturday Night Live, said in an interview with New York Magazine.
When 'Saturday Night Live' Executive Producer Lorne Michaels was asked why the show makes fun of conservatives and not liberals, his response was that liberals get angry when we make fun of them.
Live from New York, it's . . . The Beatles! Over the years, many entertainment impresarios have offered millions of dollars to get the Beatles to reunite. None were successful, but it didn't stop them from trying. On April 24, 1976, "Saturday Night Live" producer Lorne Michaels made what would become a running gag on SNL with his offer of $3,000 to the Beatles to appear on the late-night comedy show. The camera then zoomed in for a close-up of a $3,000 check from NBC made payable to The Beatles. Having had no response from the Fab Four, a month later, on May 22, 1976, Michaels upped the ante to $3,200 - an extra $50 each, Michaels declared! Paul Mccartney has commented in interviews that he and John Lennon were watching the SNL broadcast from Lennon's apartment in the Dakota on the night when Michaels made his offer for the Beatles to reunite. McCartney reported that he and Lennon briefly toyed with the idea of going down to the NBC studios and taking Michaels up on the offer. Oh, what a show THAT would h ...

Marshall and Bracco will guest star in Episode 2 as Tutti and Vaughn, close friends of Mulaney’s neighbor Oscar (Gould). Mulaney is slated to premiere later this year.
John Belushi would have been 65 yesterday. "Jan. 24 marks what would have been John Belushi's 65th birthday. To celebrate, we're featuring a vintage (and eerie) "Saturday Night Live" 1978 clip, “Don’t Look Back in Anger.” The short film takes place in the future. Belushi is an old man (if only) visiting the graves of comedians who died young, including Dan Aykroyd and Chevy Chase. "They all thought I'd be the first one to go," Belushi says in a prophetic statement. The "Animal House" star died in 1982 of a drug overdose. The first grave he visits in the film is that of Gilda Radner, who died of ovarian cancer at the age of 42. The two were friends, first working together on "The National Lampoon Radio Hour" and then as cast mates on "SNL.” Legend has it that Radner and others had to persuade Lorne Michaels to hire Belushi for the sketch comedy show. Radner outlived her friend by seven years. But even with his career cut short, Belushi remains an icon, thanks to star turns in "Animal House" and "Th ...

An Appeal To The Supremes On June 26, 2013 , the Justices of the Supreme Court in Washington, DC came together and made history. I want to dance in celebration, however, the music is missing. It is time for all The Supremes to come together and make history, especially the ones from Detroit. Dear Diana, Mary and Cindy: In 1970, the three of you broke up. I thought it forever ended my chances of seeing you perform live. Well, never say "forever". In fact, my forever came today. In 1975, Lorne Michaels (with whom I share a birthday, but that's not important now) offered The Beatles $3000 to reunite on Saturday Night Live. I would like to make you, The Supremes, a similar offer. I will bake each of you one free cheesecake a month for two years if you will reunite for a performance. Think of it... 72 cheesecakes. Sinead O'Connor appeared on "Saturday Night Live" as a musical guest in 1992, where she sang an a cappella version of Bob Marley's "War." O'Connor directed the song at the Roman Catholic Church, and changed the lyric "racism" to "child abuse;" she then presented a photo of Pope John Paul Ii to the camera whilst singing the word "evil." O'Connor finished her performance by tearing the photo of the pope into pieces whilst saying, "Fight the real enemy," and then throwing the pieces into the camera. SNL executives had no foreknowledge of O'Connor's plan; during the dress rehearsal, she held up a photo of a refugee child. After O'Connor was finished her performance, the audience was completely silent; Executive Producer Lorne Michaels recalled that "the air went out the studio". Michaels, who ordered that the applause sign not be used, described the incident as "on a certain level, a betrayal", but also "a serious expression of belief." Sexual abuse within the Catholic church didn't receive main stream media ...

Mulaney's boss over at Saturday Night Live, Lorne Michaels, will be the man to produce it
Giving Up I have watched Saturday Night Live off and on since 1975, introduced to it by my then twelve-year-old sister-in-law. I have watched for years, always hoping for that one moment of brilliance, that one moment of hilarity that makes watching the ninety minute show worthwhile. I can't even remember the last time I caught such a moment. Anyone who has watched over the years knows that the show has had up years and down years, good casts and bad casts; but the truth is that the show has not been any good for a long, long time, despite some terrific individual performers and performances. Maybe the show was never any good at all. I feel foolish for hanging on so long, much as Lorne Michaels ought to feel for producing it for so long. They say there's no fool like an old fool. Well, this old fool is giving up. A pox be upon me if I ever watch that pathetic show, or see any part of it, except when channel cruising, from now on. Enough. "Heralding a possible day when Lorne Michaels will have to hire another black person to prevent breaking Jay Pharoah, Saturday Night Live's Kenan Thompson has partnered with producer Michaels to write and star in his own sitcom for NBC" -The av club lmfao
It's the birthday of the man who created Saturday Night Live — Lorne Michaels, born in Toronto, Canada (November 17, 1944). He formed a comedy duo with Hart Pomerantz. In the early '70s, they had their own television Variety Show, The Hart and Lorne Terrific Hour, on Canadian television. They also contracted their talents to comedic acts in the United States, writing for Phyllis Diller, Lily Tomlin, Joan Rivers, and Woody Allen. They wrote for the NBC show Rowan & Martin's Laugh-In, and then NBC asked Michaels to come up with a comedy show to replace the Johnny Carson reruns that aired Saturday Nights at 11:30 p.m. Michaels recruited talent from all sorts of places. Dan Aykroyd was a fellow Canadian, and Chevy Chase, John Belushi, and Gilda Radner had worked on the National Lampoon show. Muppet creator Jim Henson created sketches for the show, and recent Harvard grad Al Franken was signed on as a writer. Michaels put together the first season, 1975-1976, and won an Emmy for it. He said: "The show doesn' ...

If you ever wondered why I thought Louis CK was an incredible human being, this is my reasoning. Hello. Its louis here. I’m clacking this to you on my phone in my dressing room here at studio 8H, right in 30 Rockefeller Center, in Manhattan, New York City, New York, america, world, current snapshot of all existence everywhere. Tonight I’m hosting Saturday Night Live, something I zero ever in my life saw happening to me. And yet here it is completely most probably happening (I mean, ANYTHING could NOT happen. So we’ll see). I’ve been working here all week with the cast, crew, producers and writers of SNL, and with Lorne Michaels. Such a great and talented group of people. And here we are in the middle of New York City, which was just slammed by a hurricane, leaving behind so much trouble, so much difficulty and trauma, which everyone here is still dealing with every day. Last night we shot some pre-tape segments in greenwich Village, which was pitch black dark for blocks and blocks, as it has been ...
Thank God Saturday Night Live got funny again, I was ready to go down to NBC and wait outside to punch Lorne Michaels in the neck but they fixed it. The Californians are back, Stefon is back, the killer theme park robots are back, and *** Dan met his long lost twin brother Butt Dave but they both died like 20 seconds later... it was great.
$5 Million offer is about as legit as Lorne Michaels offering the Beatles $3000 to reunite on Saturday Night Live
The next debate should be Sean Hannity against Chris Mathews with Wolf Blitzer monitoring. We would hear the same stretching of the truth that we heard during the past 3 debates but at least our vote wouldn't depend on it. The only real winner after these debates has been Lorne Michaels since they have given Saturday Night Live some of the best material in years.
Watching Saturday Night Live and the Weekend Update skit reported that rural people see Romney as more "right" for them as a split image shows Romney and Obama. The camera then zooms in to show the obvious difference in skin color. "Like" if you think that this mischaracterizes rural Americans as racists and is divisive. Way to go Lorne Michaels. Still watching, waiting for comedy...
I feel like the "regular citizens" asking questions were cast by Lorne Michaels for the next Saturday Night Live skit.
Just pitch Lorne Michaels a Britney Spears & episode of Saturday Night Live. The will go for it.
Saturday Night Live just has not been good since 74-79. If you don't know what I'm talking about you have not seen the Original Not Ready For Prime Time Players. seriously it just *** sucked in the 90's sucked in the first decade of this millennium, and it *** from now till Lorne Michaels finally ends our suffering!
o! my g-d mar tyr dumb of robin bush on octobigbird 11 19/53 B I N G O! MR CLOONEY! Saturday Night Live (abbreviated as SNL) is an American late-night live television sketch comedy and Variety Show created by Lorne Michaels and developed by *** Ebersol.[1] The show premiered on NBC on October 11, 1975, under the original title NBC's Saturday Night. The show's comedy sketches, which parody American culture and politics,[2] are performed by a large and varying cast of repertory and newer cast members.[2][3] Each episode is hosted by a celebrity guest, who usually delivers an opening monologue and performs in sketches with the cast, and features performances by a musical guest. An episode normally begins with a cold open sketch that ends with someone breaking character and proclaiming, "Live from New York, it's Saturday Night!", beginning the show proper.[4]

On October 11th, 1975, Canadian producer Lorne Michaels’ show Saturday Night Live aired its first episode with comedian George Carlin performing the opening monologue (rumors say he was high on drugs during the taping). Originally, the show was designed to fill a time slot that was left open when Johnny Carson asked for an additional day off during Saturdays. Faced with the option of running reruns, or potentially losing Carson by not offering him the extra day off, SNL was created as a temporary solution that did not have a direct focus, using both musical variety elements, atypical Muppet characters providing adult humor, short films, as well as the modern sketch comedy routine. No one anticipated the massive success the show would have as it went to span 38 seasons and as of the writing of this article, 727 episodes. The latest seasons are particularly noteworthy for their use of DSLR cameras (notably the Canon 5D MK II) to not only record certain sketches and sequences, but also the opening cred ...
Louie is invited to host Saturday Night Live. Gets in a fist fight with Lorne Michaels. Enjoys a pedicure.
You know, back in '76 when Lorne Michaels of Saturday Night Live offered The Beatles 3,000 dollars to appear on the show, Paul Mccartney said that he called up John Lennon and they really almost went through with it. Could you have imagined a Beatles reunion in '76 on SNL? Almost happened. I know in an alternate universe it DID happen. If only I could get my hands on that DVD.
Something today made me remember the performance by Fear on Saturday Night Live. Ian MacKaye was there and explained it in a pretty cool interview withNardwuar. Lorne Michaels broke the news yesterday that when the new season of Saturday Night Live starts this weekend, it will be Jay Pharoah playing President Obama rather than Fred Armisen, who has played POTUS since 2008. Jennifer Aniston nearly passed up on Friends to join the cast of Saturday Night Live. She met with Lorne Michaels about being a cast member on SNL prior to accepting the Friends gig. She was offered the job, but turned it down. She felt like the show was too much of a "boy's club". On the other hand, Janeane Garofalo, an SNL cast member from the 1994-95 season turned down a part on Friends that same year. She was the producers' first choice to play Monica. Imagine how different both of these shows would have been!
We imagine that a good 40% of Lorne Michaels' day is taken up by muttering, "What have I unleashed on the world?" After hearing about the activities of many "Saturday Night Live" alumni, you couldn't fault him.

In the last minutes of tonight's Season Finale, Lorne Michaels and the cast of Saturday Night Live said goodbye to Kristen Wiig in a graduation-themed sketch-turned-emotional tear factory.
New York -- Kristen Wiig got a musical sendoff on the Season Finale of "Saturday Night Live" as the popular and versatile cast member made her exit after seven years. In the show's final sketch, guest host *** Jagger played the principal at a high school graduation and brought up Wiig, in cap and gown, as "one particular student who is leaving this summer." She danced in turn with Jagger, cast members and Executive Producer Lorne Michaels to the tune of the Rolling Stones classic "She's a Rainbow." Then the ensemble sang another Stones hit, "Ruby Tuesday," with its line, "still I'm gonna miss you." Wiig appeared to be holding back tears. Though NBC had made no prior announcement of her departure, it comes as no surprise. She starred in and co-wrote the hit comedy "Bridesmaids," and even before that had notable roles in "Friends With Kids," "Paul," "Adventureland" and "Knocked Up," among other films. She has six more in various stages of development. Wiig's almost limitless range of characters on "SNL" ha ...
WIIG SAYS GOODBYE TO SNL! As expected, Kristen Wiig has decided to leave Saturday Night Live after seven seasons, and got quite the sendoff during Saturday’s Season Finale. During the last sketch of the evening, host *** Jagger introduced a group of high school graduates, and then singled out Wiig, saying "You've meant quite a lot to us over the last seven years -- she got held back! -- so our music department got together and prepared a song to say goodbye." Then as Arcade Fire began singing, “She’s A Rainbow,” a teary-eyed Wiig shared a dance with all her cast members, with the final dance reserved for show creator Lorne Michaels. Then the band, and the cast, broke into “Ruby Tuesday,” with former cast members Amy Poehler, Rachel Dratch and Chris Kattan all joining in to say their goodbyes to the Bridesmaids star.
Last night, Saturday Night Live star Kristen Wiig signed off as a cast member for the final time. As a tribute, she danced with each of her fellow actors and actresses, as well as longtime headman Lorne Michaels. The moment was touching and fitting, the perfect way to say goodbye to a woman who ...

Saturday Night Live Season Goodbye: Good to see Amy Poehler, Rachel Dratch, Steve Martin, Lorne Michaels, Kristen Wiig, Jason Sudeikis, Andy Samberg on that stage. Man I would've loved to page that last show in the studio!
I just finished reading a book about Saturday Night Live called "Live From New York" by Tom Shales and James Andrew Miller. It was a good book, with great stories about controversial moments that aired over the years. I've tried to find some of the moments on Hulu, but have been unable to. I wonder if Lorne Michaels/SNL/NBC have exercised editorial control of the content on Hulu.
*** Jagger will host tomorrow night's (May 19th) Season Finale of NBC's Saturday Night Live. Rumors began swirling earlier this month that the Stones would be joining Jagger on the show when news leaked that he group had been rehearsing in Manhattan and Weehawken, New Jersey. Strangely, it was Keith Richards who revealed to Rolling Stone that Jagger would be playing without the band. Jagger will perform three times on Saturday, being backed by Foo Fighters, Arcade Fire, and Jeff Beck and his band, respectively. Jagger reportedly signed on to close out the show's 37th season at the personal request of Executive Producer Lorne Michaels. Jagger has appeared on SNL a total of five times over the years, performing as a musical guest once with the Stones on October 7th, 1978; twice as a solo act on February 6th, 1993 and again on December 8th, 2001; and made two cameos on the show -- on December 16th, 1978, singing with Peter Tosh and on February 6th, 1986 with a walk-on part with then-wife -- and that week's ...
