A versatile performer, Hooks worked alongside some of the “SNL” greats and held her own. Jan Hooks and Dana Carvey as Regis and Kathy Lee. Brilliant. Jan Hooks on 'Saturday Night Live' via
I was also watching Saturday Night Live on TV in the 90's. The movie was OK. I kinda like Dana Carvey as a comedian.
Then, Dana Carvey got all dressed up in LADIES CLOTHES and said how special things were! I KNOW! Saturday Night Live used to make you think.
Dana Carvey - ;rose to national prominence during a six-year run on NBC’s “Saturday Night Live,” where he became famous for such memorable characters as “Church Lady,” “Garth” and “Hans,” as well as spot-on impersonations of President George H.W. Kevin Nealon was born in St. Louis, Missouri (November 18, 1953). Nealon debuted on network television doing a stand-up routine for The Tonight Show Starring Johnny Carson in 1984. In 1986, Saturday Night Live recruited his friend Dana Carvey, and Carvey in turn recommended Nealon. Both joined the cast that year, and Nealon became a full-time performer in the 1987-1988 season, and remained for nine seasons.
For those of you under the age of 40, "The Church Lady" was a character played by comedian Dana Carvey on the TV show "Saturday Night Live".
Watching reruns of Saturday Night Live with the one the only The Great Dana Carvey. Not a funnier person on earth! Thanks for the laughs.
Warning: Saturday Night Live: The Best of Dana Carvey (1999) is only available until 05/01/2014
Dana Carvey on Saturday Night Live.love watching re-runs, but wish I could watch the ones from 1970 - 1990.
The Best Advice of the Year By Craig Ballantyne It was my golden age of television. When I was thirteen years old, I’d race home from my Sunday morning hockey game, rewind the tape in the VCR, lie on the family room floor out at the old farmhouse, and watch a recording of the latest episode of Saturday Night Live. Phil Hartman, Dana Carvey, Kevin Nealon. Colon Blow. Happy Fun Ball (still legal in 16 states!). Church Lady. Deep thoughts by Jack Handey. Those names and skits still bring a smile to my face almost 25 years later. Even Stuart Smalley. Do you remember that character played by Al Franken? Smalley was a parody of the self-help and affirmation world, with a catch-phrase he’d repeat to himself in a mirror, “You’re good enough, you’re smart enough, and doggone it, people like you!” It wasn’t a character that would elicit a great belly laugh, but a smile and a chuckle all the same. Stuart Smalley’s advice, however, won’t get you very far in the real world. Affirmations might give yo ...
As we watch the movie, "It's a Wonderful Life" with Jimmy Stewart, I often miss the "Married With Children" version/parody of "it's a Wonderful Life" as well as the "Alternative Ending" version on Saturday Night Live with Dana Carvey and Jon Lovitz...classics all.
On this day in 1993, Wayne's World 2--the sequel to the 1992 hit comedy starring Mike Myers and Dana Carvey as a pair of long-haired, heavy-metal-loving slackers who produce a cable access TV show from their basement--opens in theaters. Co-written by Myers, Wayne's World was based on a popular sketch from TV's Saturday Night Live featuring the Aurora, Illinois-based high school friends Wayne Campbell (Myers) and Garth Algar (Carvey), who host a show in which they play air guitar and hold forth on such topics as women and the god-like status of their musical idols, Aerosmith. Wayne and Garth popularized a long list of catchphrases, including: "Party on," "We're not worthy" and "Excellent!" Skits from Saturday Night Live, which debuted on NBC in 1975, have inspired a string of films, including The Blues Brothers (1980), Coneheads (1993) and A Night at the Roxbury (1998). Wayne's World is the highest grossing of these movies to date, while Wayne's World 2 comes in third, behind The Blues Brothers. Wayne Camp ...
Saturday Night Live star Dana Carvey performing his classic stand up bit "Chopping Broccoli" on Turkey Television in 1985
TV Crap Fact In 1997, Saturday Night Live alum Dana Carvey underwent open heart surgery, and the doctor operated on the wrong artery. Carvey sued and won $7.5 million, which he donated every cent to charity. Well isn't that special.
Watching the Sound of Music. Isn't that the set Dana Carvey used to use on Saturday Night Live?
Day 19: My complaint for the day: I participate in No-Shave November. This year, my beard is coming in nicely, but I have one of those painful ingrown hairs, or zits, or something right at the base of my mustache. I can't get rid of it, or even touch it, without it hurting, but I don't want to shave part of my mustache to see what it is, or expose it to the world. I wish my facial hair had self-healing powers. My thanks for the day: Season 17 of Saturday Night Live. I still watch on Netflix. David Spade, Chris Rock, Adam Sandler, Victoria Jackson, Dana Carvey, Phil Hartman, Kevin Nealon, Tim Meadows, Mike Myers, Ellen Cleghorne, Melanie Hutsell, Chris Farley & Julia Sweeney were the perfect ensemble cast. This is also my thanks for Day 19 of 1993.
25 years ago, I'd watch Star Trek reruns with my dad. Not because he meant to spend time with me, but because he liked the show. Mom would watch Saturday Night Live with me for the same reason: she liked the show. (This was the Phil Hartman/Dana Carvey years). To be able to be best friends with your own parents is an aweseome gift.
Is it me, or is the new Lady Gaga song "dope," reminiscent of Dana Carvey doing the "Choppin Broccoli," song on Saturday Night Live?
Going to see Dana Carvey and Dennis Miller from Saturday Night Live tomorrow night at the Allen Events Center. This was hubby's birthday present. Should be pretty funny-Dana Carvey is hysterical. Good way to unwind after a busy week. Have to go by the Kristyn McKenzie Sessom house to say hello and see my baby girl, Brynn. She is so funny - now everything is MINE! So precious!
WHO WINS THIS BATTLE? To me, the 3 best casts of Saturday Night Live was the original few seasons (Chevy Chase, Dan Akroyd, Gilda Radner, Steve Martin, Bill Murray, Garrett Morris), early 90's cast (Chris Rock, Dennis Miller, Dana Carvey, Adam Sandler, Chris Farley, David Spade, Rob Schneider) and the mid to late 90's cast (Will Ferrell, Tracy Morgan, Chris Kattan, Molly Shannon, Tim Meadows, Norm McDonald, Cheri Oteri, Ana Gasteyer, Darrell Hammond). Who wins in those 3 eras? I would love to put the Eddie Murphy era but during that time he was the funniest on there by far! There was also Martin Short and Julia Louis-Dryfuss. FYI: Did you know that Damon Waynes and Anthony Michael Hall was on SNL for a season?
I live Dana Carvey's portrayal of Church Lady in Saturday Night Live

Credit to the great writers of Saturday Night Live, this commercial parody is from the late 1990's. :-)
MT Fact: Dana Carvey, of Saturday Night Live and other shows, is from Missoula MT.
On 2/16/13, Saturday Night Live (SNL) broadcast a trailer for a fictitious movie named, “Djesus Uncrossed”. The trailer shows the movie is about the resurrected Christ Who rolls away the stone of His tomb and exits on a bloody mission of vengeance against the Romans who killed Him. The makers of this trailer and all others associated with its production and broadcast are not in any way to be commended, for they clearly intended to offend and mock Christ, Christianity, and Christians. But once again we see that people who do such things merely support – if not actually confirm – the very thing they mock. . For this reason, and this reason alone, I recommend watching this trailer: just to be reminded, in a reverse psychology sort of way, of how profoundly unique and wonderful Christ is. The trailer, in portraying Christ as wreaking bloody vengeance on the Romans, had shock value and was only “humorous,” because it is in such obvious stark contrast to the Person we know Christ was. The trailer de ...
Tonight 8 pm on WMTV Saturday Night Live in the 90 's: Pop Culture Nation 2 hour special with Dana Carvey, Will Farrell, Jimmy Fallon and Tina Fey. Rock on !
I'm watching Saturday Night Live episodes from the 90s...and after 4eps, I have come to the realization that comedy tv in the 1990s really really sucked.
Watching hours and hours of old school Saturday Night Live. Episodes from 1991 when SNL was the best ever. Chris Farley, Phil Hartman, Dana Carvey.should I go on?
Met and shook hands with Dana Carvey today. That was so cool to meet the greatest cast member from Saturday Night Live of all time.
I see Obama shooting his gun & I still think back to Dana Carvey's skit on Saturday Night Live when he used to say "he's a little girly man"
So we are watching ice skating on channel 13.and I can't help but think after all of Barry Manilow's cosmetic surgeries, that that is what you would have gotten on Saturday Night Live 20 years ago if Dana Carvey was to do an impression of Dudley Moore! Anyone else see it? Probably not cause no one else is lame enough to watch this crap!
I sure do. Mr. Carvey was my teacher. That would be Dana Carvey father. Dana Carvey is the funny comic on Saturday Night Live, he plays the Church Lady. Funny guy he is. He looks just like his dad.
Watched a 25 year old episode of Saturday Night Live today. Dana Carvey did the Cold Open as George Bush describing how he took over the U.S. government by coup d'etat ("Would a wimp do that?"). Host Candace Bergen's monologue concerned a pet turkey. Cher was the musical guest. Hans and Franz. And I'm wondering why we're stuck with Dennis Miller and Victoria Jackson, but had to lose Phil Hartman? This world is not fair.
Longing for the good 'ol days when Saturday Night Live was funny. Belushi, Farley, Spade, Dan Aykroyd, Will Ferrell, Dana Carvey and on and on. Just not funny like it used to be.
In 1989, after publishing, at 81, his first collection of poems, Jimmy Stewart was spoofed as a guest on Sprockets, the Saturday Night Live satire of German artiness. Stewart, played by Dana Carvey, explained to the host, Dieter (Mike Myers), how he came to write such poems as "Old Rocking...
The alumni from the 1990-1991 seasons of "Saturday Night Live" have really come into their own lately. Yes, I'm a supporter of consumer advocate/senatorial candidate Elizabeth Warren and I liked her speech last night. But to win in Massachusetts she may need something extra. How about this? She appears on Saturday Night Live with Dana Carvey. They're both outfitted in Church Lady costumes and scolding the *** out of (somebody playing) Paul Ryan about being in league with you-know-who -- Ayn Rand's ghost as SATAN. Then all four characters do the Church Lady dance.
Dana Carvey had a character during his years on Saturday Night Live who was a crotchety old man complaining about how much better everything was "in my day," the imagined halcyon times of his past. After almost 42 years immersed in the politics of Congress, I have to check myself regularly to avoid ...
I really don't know how this happened, but I'm in the living room answering emails, and old Saturday Night Live shows up on the big screen. Teri Miller and the kids pulled it up on Netflix. Man...it really used to be funny. Dana Carvey was hilarious.
