Sachin Tendulkar the best cricketer I’ve seen: Sanath Jayasuriya
Opening up for the left-handers is Australia’s Matthew Hayden, a terrifying prospect for opposition bowlers. Through his sheer strength and size, Hayden was capable of destroying any bowling attack and would therefore be an ideal man at the top of the order as a left-hander. Alongside Hayden comes Sri Lanka’s Sanath Jayasuriya, a left-hander with an appetite for destruction. A man who believed in aggressive batting regardless of the format he was playing, Jayasuriya would be an ideal foil for Hayden in this left-handed team. In at No. 3 comes the best batsman in the history of Zimbabwe and a man regarded as one of the best of the last 20 years: Andy Flower. Flower managed to maintain a very high batting average despite his country’s struggles, and the left-hander would be an ideal man to have in this side. Another premier batsman, and one of the best in history. West Indian Brian Lara comes in at No. 4 for this team. A destructive player who used his high back-lift to hit the ball with immense power ...

Most boundaries (4s) scored (In his career, till date, Sachin has spanked the cricket ball across the boundary line a whopping 2,016 times!). Speaking of boundaries, during the course of his historic innings of 200*, he also went on to bag the record for the most number of boundaries scored by an individual in an ODI innings (25 boundary hits). Sachin Tendulkar has played the most one dayers (463 ODIs). Sanath Jayasuriya of Sri Lanka is behind him is 2nd ...
Hundred No. 6: 137 v Sri Lanka, Delhi, March 2 1996. Result: Sri Lanka Won Sachin Tendulkar scored his 6th ODI hundred, but it turned out to be his 1st ton in a losing cause. Up against the fearsome and soon to be World Champions, Sri Lanka, India were guilty of starting off slowly. They eventually reached 271, thanks to Tendulkar, who hit 8 fours and 5 sixes during a spectacular knock of 137. He was only dismissed, run-out, in the last over but by then he had been involved in a 175-run 3rd wicket stand with Mohammad Azharuddin, then an Indian record for all wickets. He played his part with the ball as well, but the Indians were helpless in front of the opening assault led by Sanath Jayasuriya and Romesh Kaluwitharana.

Sri Lanka national cricket team: The Sri Lankan cricket team is the national cricket team of Sri Lanka. The team first played international cricket in 1926–27, and were later awarded Test status in 1981, which made Sri Lanka the eighth Test Cricket playing nation. Since then, the team has continued to be a force in international cricket. The Sri Lankan cricket team reached the finals of the 2007 and 2011 Cricket World Cups consecutively. The batting of Sanath Jayasuriya, Aravinda de Silva, Mahela Jayawardene and Kumar Sangakkara backed up by the bowling of Muttiah Muralitharan, Chaminda Vaas and Lasith Malinga, among many other talented cricketers, has underpinned the successes of Sri Lankan cricket in the last two decades. How many Master Blasters are out there?. Viv Richards, Sachin Tendulkar and Sanath Jayasuriya. Think Sir Viv is the original though.
Virendra Sehwag the most dangerous batman of modern era also known as Viru. He is treated as one of the most hard-hitting opening batsman of all time. Some of the experts also went ahead to compare him with Sir Vivian Richards. In April 2009, Virendra Sehwag became the only Indian to be honored as the Wisden Leading Cricketer in the World for his performance in year 2008. Virendra Sehwag brilliance has no word to describe, his strike rates in Test Cricket are far better than any other players who have played the Test Cricket. Sachin Tendulkar (13,234 runs at 55.37) has a strike-rate of 54.12, Ricky Ponting (11,859 runs at 55.67) scores at a rate of 59.60, Matthew Hayden (8625 runs at 50.73) got his at 60.10, and Brian Lara (11,953 runs at 52.88) at 60.51. Sanath Jayasuriya comes closest, with a strike-rate of 65.10, but his average is just over 40. Who dismissed Rahul Dravid most often in Test Cricket? A distinguished bunch of bowlers lead the way in dismissing Rahul Dravid in Tests. Shane Warne did it eight times, Brett Lee seven, Muttiah Muralitharan and Shaun *** six. A slightly less distinguished trio - Doug Bollinger (Australia), Pommie Mbangwa (Zimbabwe) and Daren Powell (West Indies) - dismissed Dravid in both innings of the only Test they played against him. In ODIs (in which, it is easy to forget, Dravid piled up 10,889 runs) he was dismissed six times by Pakistan's Abdul Razzaq and Sanath Jayasuriya of Sri Lanka, and five times by seven other bowlers - including Lee, who dismissed him 12 times in all international cricket, one more than Murali. And the most successful bowler against Dravid in T20 internationals is … Ravi Bopara, who had him caught in the covers in the only such match he played!
How many records does Sachin Tendulkar hold? Several people have asked this over the years, and the answer is that it's not a precise number - it depends on your idea of a record, there isn't a set list. For example Tendulkar holds the record for the highest score in a one-day international in Pietermaritzburg (and several other grounds), although I don't suppose that one is terribly near the top of his personal list. But the major records he does hold include: most appearances in Tests (probably 200; Ricky Ponting and Steve Waugh come next with 168) and ODIs (463; Sanath Jayasuriya 445); most runs in Tests (currently 15,837; Ponting 13,378) and ODIs (18,426; Ponting 13,704); most hundreds in Tests (51; Jacques Kallis 44), ODIs (49; Ponting 30) and all international cricket (100; Ponting 71). Unsurprisingly he's also had more innings in Tests (327; Ponting 287) and ODIs (452; Jayasuriya 433) than anyone else. You can add in most ODI runs in a calendar year (1894 in 1998), most ODI hundreds against one tea ...

Friends, I am now presenting the MAIN reason why the RECORDS "supposed to be" made by Sachin do not give a CORRECT picture of his BATTING SKILLS/GREATNESS. The practically CORRECT estimate of the "greatness" of a batsman is not mainly known from the CENTURIES or HALF CENTURIES he has hit, but from the "total number of RUNS" he has scored. Correct? Agreed that Sachin has made the HIGHEST no. of runs in both ODIs and Tests. But, after playing how many INNINGS. "This" is the MAIN point to be considered, which HAS TO BE taken into account. I will explain you this point by giving a simple EXAMPLE. Suppose, player "S" has made 1,000 runs in his career, from 50 innings. And player "X" has made only 900 runs in his career, but, from only 30 innings. So, although player S has made "more" runs than player X, who is actually/practically a "better" BATSMAN. Obviously, player X. Why? Bcoz he has scored his runs in "comparitively" LESS innings. In other words, he has a better "batting AVERAGE". Hence, the "Average" of ...
With due respect and appreciation for MSDs team India it's a rock solid fact that international teams nowadays have not been able to offer that challenges, competition or intensity compared to their predecessors. There was a time when one Mathew Hayden or Sanath Jayasuriya or an Inzamam Ul Haq proved again and again they were unstoppable especially against Indian attacks. Here lies the importance and greatness of the trios Tendulkar, Dravid & Ganguly.

Most half-centuries in one-day internationals without making a hundred! Pakistan's captain Misbah-ul-Haq, whose highest score in one-day internationals is 96 not out, has indeed reached 50 more often than anyone else (31) who never scored a century - although of course he might still get one, although at 39 he will probably be the oldest man ever to score one if he does (Sanath Jayasuriya and Geoff Boycott both scored ODI hundreds after turning 39). Misbah took the record in July this year from Andrew Jones of New Zealand, who made 25 ODI half-centuries without ever quite managing a hundred - his highest score was 93. Next come Graham Thorpe (21), Kim Hughes (17), and Mudassar Nazar and Michael Vaughan (both 16), before a couple of current players with 15: Elton Chigumbura of Zimbabwe and Sri Lanka's captain Angelo Mathews.

Buttler Blitz Helps England Avoid Whitewash England 287-6 (Bell 82, Buttler 47no) beat New Zealand 253 (Taylor 71) by 34 runs Third One-Day International, Trent Bridge A brilliant innings from Jos Buttler late on in the England innings helped them avoid a series whitewash against New Zealand at Trent Bridge last night. England had been going nowhere at the halfway point in their innings at 97 for two and had only 211 with just four overs to go. However, Eoin Morgan and, in particular, Buttler launched an assault of ferocious proportions. They plundered 76 runs from the final four overs and finished up on 287 for six with Buttler unbeaten on 49 off just 16 balls. Morgan began things by depositing the previously parsimonious Mitchell McClenaghan for six in the 47th over, but Buttler took over from then on and kept up the pressure following Morgan’s departure, run out for 49. In the 48th over, bowled by Kyle Mills, Buttler showcased all of his party tricks. The first ball was heaved over mid-wicket, prompt ...

Buttler boosts England against Kiwis NOTTINGHAM, England: Jos Buttler made an unbeaten 47 off just 16 balls to propel England to a total of 287 for six against New Zealand in the third and final One-day International at Trent Bridge on Wednesday. England, bidding to avoid a whitewash having already lost the series at 2-0 down, saw Ian Bell top score with 82 before he gave his wicket away.At 210 for five in the 46th over, it seemed England would fall short of a competitive total. But a stand of 62 between Eoin Morgan (49) and Buttler gave England’s bowlers a score to defend under the floodlights in this day/night fixture. Buttler needed a six off the last ball to surpass Sri Lanka great Sanath Jayasuriya’s 17-ball record for the fastest One-day International fifty, set against Pakistan in Singapore in 1996. But he managed only two off Tim Southee. caption NOTTINGHAM, England: England’s Jonathan Trott hits a four during their third One-day International match against New Zealand at Trent Bridge cricket ...

Did U Know: Kushal Perera of Sri Lanka is originally a right handed batsman - but he changed his stance to left handed batsman during his school days as his inspiration Sanath Jayasuriya was a left handed batsman...!!
No wonder why Perera's role model is Sanath Jayasuriya! DID YOU KNOW? Kushal Perera was a right-handed batsman but later on he became a left handed-batsman because his role model Jayasuriya is a left-handed batsman.

Two things though, firstly there is no chance I am even ten percent as good as him but more importantly .I am Kusal Janith and play my game the way I know. So it's a bit unfair to think I am a duplicate!", he said -Sri Lanka Fans-
About Tamim iqbal boss When the world talks about the sub-continental openers, they talk about the aggression factor. Virender Sehwag, Sanath Jayasuriya and Sachin Tendulkar have ruthlessly destroyed the bowling over the years. However, an opener from Bangladesh soon joined that list and made the world take notice. Tamim Iqbal was chosen in the Bangladesh team for the 2007 World Cup after just playing two matches against Zimbabwe. Against India, they were chasing a low score in tricky conditions. With the experienced Zaheer Khan bowling, it would have made sense for someone inexperienced to show respect and play him with caution. Tamim chose to disregard those factors and launched into the Indian bowling with brutal aggression. His six over deep mid wicket after skipping down the track to Zaheer was among the shots of the 2007 World Cup and ever since that knock, he has not looked back. He scored his first century against Ireland, but it was his knock against Zimbabwe at Harare which got him top billing. ...

TODAY IN HISTORY: 1977 Mahela Jayawardene, a modern Sri Lankan great was born on this day. And when Sri Lanka reached their second consecutive final in 2011, Jayawardene joined the exclusive list of batsmen who scored hundreds World Cup finals. 1887 A Kent legend is born. Chief selector Sanath Jayasuriya will meet with the locked-out players on Sunday evening, SLC president Upali Dharmadasa said. It is expected to be a personal attempt on Jayasuriya's part to break the deadlock between SLC and the players, and possibly aimed at selecting a full-strength squad for the first Test against Bangladesh on Friday. The dispute could also prevent the Sri Lanka Cricketers form playing in the IPL but Nishantha Ranatunga, theSLC secretary, was hopeful the stand-off would be resolved before the IPL began; both the players and the SLC stand to lose if the participation is affected, as the board receives 10% of player salaries in the IPL for providing them No Objection Certificates to play in the league.

Sri Lankan public don't like juniors playing IPL: Sanath Jayasuriya Former Sri Lanka captain and present chief selector Sanath Jayasuriya feels that it will be better if junior Sri Lankan players are kept away from IPL although it remains an "individual decision". The dashing opener feels that Sri Lankan people don't like young players participating in the IPL because they adopt different technique which is detrimental to their game. "However, experienced cricketers playing in IPL is infact good. But it is left to individual player's discretion which of the two games is better for him," he added. Jayasuriya said that the national captaincy has been handed over to Angelo Mathews for the smooth transition of the team. "We have picked up some young players and also appointed Angelo Mathews and Dinesh Chandimal as captain and vice-captain for smoother transition of the team. We need to get youngsters groomed by playing alongside senior players, before they quit," the prolific opener of yesteryears told mediap ...

CHENNAI: The big boys are 'well settled', the Pakistan players are conspicuous by their absence and the money left with the nine franchises doesn't exactly amount to much, as 108 players go under the hammer on Sunday ahead of the sixth edition of the Indian Premier League. It's about filling up a few empty slots for most of the sides and the two players likely to hog the limelight are the Aussies Michael Clarke and Ricky Ponting. Both have a base price of $400,000 and teams like Sunrisers and Mumbai Indians would definitely like to have the current Aussie capain in their ranks. However, Mumbai Indians might not rule out the Ponting option altogether. He displayed good form for the Hobart Hurricanes in the Big Bash and in addition to that, a possible Tendulkar-Ponting partnership at the top of the order can be a huge draw. Mumbai had tried that with Sanath Jayasuriya and the Little Master in the first three editions and it remains to be seen whether Nita Ambani and Co will take the same route again. There ...

-Jayasuriya's factor! he's the Master!- Sanath Jayasuriya did top-score in the highest Test total (340 out of 952 for 6 dec against India at the Premadasa Stadium in Colombo in 1997-98), the highest in ODIs (157 out of 443 for 9 against Netherlands at Amstelveen in 2006) and Twenty20 internationals (88 out of 260 for 6 against Kenya at Johannesburg in 2007-08). The only other player to play in all three of those games was Mahela Jayawardene (the first one was his Test debut). Of others who might have played in all three, Chaminda Vaas did not play in the ODI record, and Muttiah Muralitharan missed both the ODI and Twenty20 games. And yes, it's obviously unique - Sri Lanka have held the Test record all the time Twenty20 internationals have been played, so no one else has had a chance for a look-in! Share!
Sanath Jayasuriya. Hello, It is an unexpected journey that I will have to go on with the new post as the chairman of the National Selection Committee of Sri Lanka Cricket Board(SLCB). My main objective will be to make a decent test side, as we all know that Test Cricket is the best form of the game which follows up with One day(50 over) cricket which is superior in its own ways. I hope my fans will be with me on this journey as you always have. Take care, Sanath.
