The San Francisco 49ers might have a new defensive backs coach in the coming days. Former New York Giants defensive coordinator Perry Fewell is expected to travel to Santa Clara to interview for the job.
Reasons to hate the new Santa Clara 49ers. 1. Santa Clara 2. Harbough gone 3. York says winning doesn't matter winning with class matters. (he knows Alton Smith is a felon and McDonald beats up on women right?) 4. Levis Stadium and Santa Clara again 5. Still named San Francisco when they play in Santa Clara 6. Current Events Candlestick Park implosion plan has residents fearing for safety Joe Kukura Dec 26, 2014 You've likely noticed that the San Francisco 49ers no longer play their home games at Candlestick Park. (Their new home is Levi's Stadium, 40 miles down the road in Santa Clara.) Candlestick Park has been officially retired from use; the last event ever at Candlestick Park was a Paul Mccartney concert in August. The city of San Francisco and a team of developers now plan to tear down Candlestick Park and replace it with a shopping mall, parks, housing and a slew of other lovely-sounding mixed-use plans. What does not sound so lovely is a new change to the plan. Construction developer the Lennar Corporation, the firm that won the bid to tear down Candlestick and build new shops and housing on the site, has changed its mind on how to tear down Candlestick Park. What had originally been planned as a painstaking piece-by-piece demolition of the 70,000-seat stadium is now a plan to simply blow the place up w ...

Yosemite Lunch Walk 174 Again I say to The Weatherman: "46°? Then how do we have ice and frost?" It's definitely in the 25°-30° temperature range today in Yosemite Valley, as evidenced by two of these iPhone images. All four pictures were taken near the center of Cook's Meadow this afternoon. The landmark images are Half Dome with a rising moon on the upper right, and North Dome with the tufts of tall grass in Cook's Meadow on the lower left. The other two are the frozen (as in less than 32°, thank you) leaves on the ground. This will be my last Yosemite post for a week, as I will be departing for Santa Clara tomorrow to shoot the Foster Farms Bowl at Levis Stadium: Maryland vs Stanford. Then I'm driving up the Northern California coast through San Francisco, Point Reyes, Bodega Bay, Mendocino and Fort Bragg before heading home on Sunday. I'll be posting images from the coast trip throughout the week. Happy New Year! Or, as my brother Richard would say, Happy Near You!

(Photo by Michael Zagaris/San Francisco 49ers/Getty Images) (Reuters) - An $11,000 fine for unsportsmanlike conduct levied against San Francisco 49ers quarterback Colin Kaepernick resulted from his use of a racial slur during a game last week, Fox Sports reported on Sunday. Fox Sports' Jay Glazer, citing an unidentified National Football League referee, said Kaepernick slung the "N-word" at Chicago Bears' defender Lamarr Houston as the two exchanged insults after a play in the Sept. 14 game. Houston is black and Kaepernick is biracial. Kaepernick has denied using inappropriate language and said he would appeal the fine. In the locker room after the game, Houston told the Chicago Trib ...

It is illegal to play football at the new Levi's Stadium in Santa Clara, CA, home of the San Francisco 49ers football team. Specifically, the city ordinances governing the stadium state that "No person shall intentionally throw, discharge, launch or spill any solid object (including footballs, baseballs, beach balls, Frisbees or other such items) or liquid substance or otherwise cause such object or substance to be thrown, discharged, launched, spilled or to become airborne." It's also illegal to park a car in the parking lot, but that's a separate matter.
1969- Reasons for Leaving In the 1960s, parents of wealthy families in the Philippines often sent their children overseas to study. Among elite families in Cebu City, children were overwhelmingly -if not exclusively- sent to the United States. My sisters Margie and Gerry were sent to study at the Dominican Convent in San Rafael, California at a very young age in the 1950s and early 1960s. My brother Francis was sent to Virginia Military Academy and the University of San Francisco. Margie went on to study at the University of Santa Clara (Located in what is now called Silicon Valley) and my late sister Gerry went on to study at the prestigious Georgetown University in Washington DC. They were educated at the time when our family was at the height of its prosperity and power, the era of entertaining Philippine Presidents at home, when heads of Corporations like Cargil and US Admirals sent telegrams congratulating my mother and father on the birth of ‘little dickie’ (ie. me- my first name is Richard). ...

Your Bi-Weekly Bay Area Real Estate Market Update Record Year for Luxury Home Sales in the Bay Area If you thought the Bay Area's luxury housing market was on fire last year, you weren't mistaken. In fact, it turns out 2013 was a record-setting year for luxury home sales in our region. There were more luxury sales in the Bay Area last year than in any other year since the firm began keeping records dating back more than 25 years. Alameda County had a 70 percent surge in sales over $1 million, followed by Contra Costa County with a 63 percent spike, according to countywide data reported in the San Jose Mercury News. San Mateo, San Francisco and Santa Clara weren't far behind with increases of 39 percent, 34 percent and 29 percent, respectively. Although $1 million buys a "luxury" property in some parts of the Bay, it may take $2 million or even $3 million or more in other communities. And that multi-million-dollar segment of the market, our Coldwell Banker Previews market, was as hot as any last year. Ther ...

SANTA CLARA -- Get Ready To Rumble: WWE's WrestleMania, one of the country's biggest annual entertainment spectacles, is coming to the Bay Area for the first time. World Wrestling Entertainment says it will stage its main event, WrestleMania, at the San Francisco 49ers new Santa Clara stadium in March 2015. It's the first nonsports event announced for Levi's Stadium, which is expected to become one of California's biggest venues for concerts and other shows when it opens next summer. San Jose, which will host some of the other events during a "weeklong celebration," Santa Clara and the 49ers beat out 14 other cities that submitted bids to host the 2015 and 2016 WrestleManias. Philadelphia was considered the main competition for the 2015 "pop-culture extravaganza." Sunday morning rant: All of the 9 Bay Area counties from Sonoma to San Mateo, San Francisco through Alameda and the Inland East Bay have so many things to do and experience. Cows and vineyards a short drive from the big city dining and shows to the peaks of Marin's Mt. Tamalpais, Santa Clara's Mt. Hamilton and the Bay in between. The faults that threaten us also shape us, the fog that surrounds us gives water to the redwoods and native plants in summer. The mighty Pacific forms our western boundaries, the rolling hills of Solano and Contra Costs level out into the neighboring San Joaquin Valley to the east. Napa Vineyards in the north to the silicon giants of the South Bay, we are fortunate to call the San Francisco Bay Area our home.

San FranCISCO — Those with sentimental feelings about San Francisco's Candlestick Park better visit in the next year because the stadium likely won't be there long after the 49ers move out. Lennar Urban takes over ownership of the land from San Francisco following the 49ers' last game at the 53-year-old building and plans to take down the stadium within weeks, according to company officials. The 49ers will be moving out following the 2013-14 season and into their new $1.2 billion stadium in Santa Clara. The San Francisco Giants moved out of Candlestick Park following the 1999 baseball season. The Candlestick site is slated to become retail space and might even house a smaller arena, which could be a potential home for the San Francisco Bulls minor league hockey team, company officials said. Candlestick Park has been the site of a number of memorable events in sports, including two Giants World Series trips and several 49er playoff runs. It has also been the place where many sports legends have called ** ...

This is just parts of the interview Mark Davis had with Monte Poole that I posted yesterday. Negotiations regarding the team's stadium situation: "We're talking, and there are some encouraging signs. We've done plenty of talking in the past, and we still don't have a long-term solution. Oakland still is in the driver's seat. We want to stay. We don't want another short-term lease extension. We want something that will work for us, for the city and for the NFL. "But if we can't get something done, I've got to do what's best for the team. For the last 10 years, we've been deficit-spending. But we signed the agreements, so it's nobody's fault but our own." The impact of the 49ers' stadium being built in Santa Clara: "They're moving out of San Francisco, which could open an opportunity for us. The way I see it, the East Bay and the West Bay and the North Bay are there for us."

The game is scheduled for February 2016 at the San Francisco 49ers' new stadium in Santa Clara. Levi's Stadium will officially open in 2014 and reportedly is nearing the halfway point in its construction. The stadium is adjacent to the team's training complex. It is also next to Great America amusement park and across from the Santa Clara Convention Center. I (Lillieth) need your help please. We're already starting to plan the 2015 conference in Northern California. Since staying in San Francisco itself will probably be cost prohibitive, where else in N. CA would you like to see us go? What do you think about areas like: -Oakland (East Bay, Marriott usually offers good value rates) -South San Francisco/Burlingame (just south of SF, near SFO airport, couple nice/good value hotels in the area) -San Mateo (just a bit further south of SF) -Santa Rosa (near the Wine Country) -Santa Clara (45-60 minutes south of SF) -San Jose (adjacent to Santa Clara) -Sacramento (90 minutes east of SF and 90 minutes west of Lake Tahoe)
It appears that the City of San Francisco is taking the 49'ers Super Bowl loss hard. I heard on the news that Candlestick Park, the home of the Niners, and one of the most reviled stadiums in baseball history, will be demolished after the '13 NFL season. In all seriousness, it appears that the Niners will be moving to a new (?) stadium in Santa Clara, CA.
SANTA CLARA, Calif. -- Jed York's October 2010 proclamation might have been made largely of frustration. Or maybe it was denial, of the reality that the San Francisco 49ers' eighth straight non-winning season was on the horizon. But what was lunacy then looks like clairvoyance now. It's not that what the Niners CEO was predicting -- that his 0-5 team would win the NFC West -- would come true. It didn't. It was in York's reasoning, which stemmed from his belief that a sturdy foundation had been built in Santa Clara, even with some pieces crumbling around it. That belief kept York from blowing up the Niners completely in 2011. It led him to push current General Manager Trent Baalke to find current coach Jim Harbaugh. It prompted York to encourage the new regime to augment rather than detonate a roster, a staff and a program. Yes, the Niners' trip to the Super Bowl after 18 years away is, in large part, about the brilliant job Harbaugh has done since he became their coach in January 2011. But it's also about ...

Think Nerds Have No Game? Some Reasons Nerds Make Great Partners. San Francisco Examiner When you think about Silicon Valley usually one of two visions come to mind; 1) money and 2) nerds. Some may ever argue that nerds and geeks are the ones responsible for putting Silicon Valley on the map as a technological "hot spot", and there is even a book aptly named Geek Silicon Valley: The Inside Guide to Palo Alto, Stanford, Menlo Park, Mountain View, Santa Clara, Sunnyvale, San Jose, San Francisco. Many people use the words geek and nerd interchangeably, but there is usually one major distinction between the two. According to Carrie Tucker, author of I Love Geeks, a "nerd" is often a term given to someone who is highly intellectual and knows a lot of diverse information, whereas a "geek" is sometimes known to focus in on a single obsession and then study it in minute detail. Sure, geeks & nerds might not have the best game in town, but they don't necessarily need it either. Here are a few reasons that gee ...

Raiders have no plans to share 49ers' Santa Clara stadium By Published: October 16, 2012 at 3:15 PM ET Modified: October 17, 2012 at 1:17 AM ET To Oakland Raiders owner Mark Davis, O.co Coliseum is a sight to behold, but not in a good way. Home to the Raiders and Oakland Athletics, the 46-year-old stadium is beyond renovation, Davis told NFL.com and NFL Network reporter Ian Rapoport during the NFL Fall Meeting in Chicago. The multipurpose stadium poses problems when it comes to repairs and upgrades and the sightlines for football are "absolutely terrible," Davis told Rapoport. The Raiders ' Bay Area rivals, the San Francisco 49ers , broke ground on their new, 68,500-seat Santa Clara Stadium in April. But Davis told Rapoport that he has no plans to share the stadium, a la the New York Giants and New York Jets before MetLife Stadium was built. "I give the 49ers all the credit in the world for getting a shovel in the ground in California," Davis said. "That's phenomenal. But we're trying to get our situation ...

Susan and I had a wonderful time in San Francisco. The weather was beautiful. We did all the tourist things. We climbed up the crookest road( Lombard) and the Coit tower in the same morning !! Oh my aching legs!!. We visited Alcatraz( and escaped). We took a 4 different tours of the city for the price of ONE!!We saw a few Hippies in their original habitat ( Haight-Asbury). Most are getting Social security now and have property in Santa Clara. We ate lunch on Fisherman's Warf( Alito's, really upscale restaurant). We saw the painted ladies twice. San Francisco is 30% asian. China Town was like not in America, Toto. We saw so many foreigners. Germans, Russians, Italians, British, Australians, New Zealanders. Some of these people were staying for 2 months holiday!! We both got our feet wet in the Pacific Ocean at Stinson beach , north of Muir Woods( Fantastic Redwoods, just awesome). We stopped for lunch at Bodega Bay. Pictures will be posted in a couple of days!!
I'm in Santa Cruz at cousin Jerri's. Gonna pick-up Sherri in Santa Clara and on to San Francisco to Choctaw cultural meeting. Love new pick of Caroline.
Hill was the only child of Elijah and Jane Hill, both of whom were descended from early American settlers. Born on August 9, 1853, in Porter County, Indiana, he came to California with his uncle when he was fourteen; his father had come West shortly before Andrew's birth but died of exhaustion and exposure after surviving an Indian attack. Although a Protestant, he studied for two years at the Catholic Santa Clara College, (now Santa Clara University) in Santa Clara: one year at high-school level and one at college freshman level. Forced by lack of funds to leave, he worked as a draftsman, then entered the California School of Design in San Francisco (now the San Francisco Art Institute) in 1875. In 1876 he opened a portrait painting business in San Jose with Louis Lussier, continuing solo after Lussier's death in 1882. In 1889, he opened the Hill and Franklin Photography Studio and Art Gallery with J. C. Franklin. When Franklin left a year later, he partnered with his mother-in-la ...

Santa Clara County officials shocked the city of Santa Clara and the San Francisco 49ers by announcing they would be pulling nearly $30 million out of the team's new football stadium, a move that's likely to trigger numerous lawsuits.
Santa Clara leaders have agreed to huddle up with legendary quarterback Joe Montana, who wants to build a four- or five-star hotel across from the San Francisco 49ers stadium.

San Francisco 49ers outside linebacker Aldon Smith was stabbed at a large house party early Saturday morning, according to the Santa Clara sheriff’s office. 49ers General Manager Trent Baalke issued this statement on the matter:

Out of nowhere, Santa Clara County officials have yanked $30 million in tax funds promised for the San Francisco 49ers' new Santa Clara stadium, saying they would rather spend the money on teachers than install "little televisions in the back of stadium seats." The 49ers and Santa Clara city leaders strongly and passionately object to the move, saying voters had specifically earmarked redevelopment funds to the stadium and that the county has no right to keep it. Lengthy court battles are likely, launching a rare soap opera in a stadium debate that has been mostly peaceful -- and supposedly long over. GOOD FOR YOU COUNTRY OFFICIALS!
Back home from Santa Clara and the SETI Conference and then July 3 it is Amtrak Bus to South Lake Tahoe for 4 th of July! I wonder if Amtrak has frequent traveler rewards I will have to find out. In 2012 I have taken Amtrak twice to Las Vegas, once to San Francisco and once to Santa Clara. Last year it was 3 times to San Francisco, 2 times to Reno and 1 time to South Lake Tahoe.
Getting the word out since I know folks in the Bay Area and some who might have been at the race. The victim in an assault that occurred on May 20, 2012 in Sharon Meadows in Golden Gate Park has died from his injury. Stephen Martin, 31, of Santa Clara, died on Friday, June 8 at San Francisco General Hospital. Martin had attended the May 20 Bay to Breakers Race with a group of friends, all in troll costumes. At approximately 5:00 P.M., there was a confrontation between Martin’s group and another group consisting of about 12 males and females. The males in the group were wearing 49’er white and red jerseys. Some of the females in the group were wearing purple clothing and one was wearing an orange tutu.
Niners get official permission to leave San Fran early Posted by Mike Florio on June 8, 2012, 12:05 AM EDT Getty Images The lights will be going out at (I Need A) Candlestick Park early, but fortunately not during a game between the 49ers and the Steelers. Earlier this week, the powers-that-be in San Francisco officially allowed the team to ditch its lease at Candlestick Park prematurely. They’ll exit after 2013, and they’ll move into the new facility in Santa Clara in 2014. The team will pay minimal rent in 2014 for the to-be-vacated premisew. The Niners also will make a $1 million donation to the San Francisco Recreation and Parks Department. Other concessions include an agreement that the 49ers and San Francisco will lead the effort to land a Super Bowl at the new venue.
Just got a call from the 49ers about upgrading my season tickets for Santa Clara. I told the guy that would not be necessary, and that I would not be traveling to Santa Clara. He had the balls to tell me that I'm giving up on the Niners. I then informed him that Jed York is giving up on San Francisco and I reminded him that I am a San Francisco native a diehard San FranCISCO Niner fan!!! And I explained to him that being a San Francisco 49ers fan is much more than just supporting the Niners it's about all the history of the 49ers playing here at Kezar, then at Candlestick and Jed York is taking all that away. So that's why I will not be traveling to Santa Clara! And with that said, he then said "okay I will take your name off the list for the new stadium" I said "thank you very much"
Bay Area is going to have a 1000 people course with Rajshree Patel from June 15-18. So it is real..the San Francisco 49ers will become in the near future the Santa Clara 49ers even though they are saying the name won't be changed! They are also hoping to have the stadium ready to host the Super Bowl 50! Guess they can move the Oakland Raiders to Redding next!
With a strike of the shovel through the heart of Silicon Valley, the San Francisco 49ers this evening will embark on a new era for the storied franchise by kicking off their move to Santa Clara.
New Show Announcements: Y&T at Avalon in Santa Clara, Sat June 30th Dream Theater at the Warfield, San Francisco, Sun July 01 Metallica as part of the Outside Lands Music Festival in Golden Gate Park, SF, Aug 10-12
I may be in the minority here, but I'm thinking that moving the 49ers to Santa Clara will be awesome for San Francisco. First, Santa Clara taxpayers will be subsidizing an amazing new stadium for the team. Advantage: San Francisco. In the place where the dump that is Candlestick currently resides, thousands of new homes will be built, providing much needed inventory for the city and providing a huge property tax base. Advantage: San Francisco. When people travel to the area for games or for big events (Super Bowls, etc.), they will still be spending all of their time and money in San Francisco. Ad: SF. We won't have to deal with gameday traffic to nearly the same extent once they move south. Ad: SF. And when games are being broadcast nationally, what images are they going to be showing in as they cut to/from the breaks? Certainly nothing from the Santa Clara area. They will still be showing the GGB, Fisherman's Wharf, Cable Cars, etc. So from a tourism marketing standpoint, SF will still be ...
