Golden Gate Park was Rocking and Rolling on Saturday with Outside Lands, but Roxanne, Rafe and I decided to experience the "Quake House" at the Academy of Science. Then we walked the Haight. Awesome day to be in San Francisco and to be a San Franciscan!

Mission get into Outside Lands yesterday was a bust, instead ate too much mushroom dust Frollicking about in Golden Gate Park, trying to regain our composure, to get to the bar before dark Needing to get inside, to reduce our exposure A dreary San Francisco day in August, thick foggy sheets of water flying through the air Slight case of wanderlust, such an interesting yet strange affair Laughing in cold, delirious bliss Getting attacked by pigeons and the mutant turkey duck, it doesn't get any weirder than this They wanted our cheeze-it's And of course it's just my luck, so little would hit me so hard All normal thought now a disregard Trying to embrace it and not get stuck, on the focus of past and present, of insecurity and resent In the dimly lit bar bathroom, wash my hands in the sink Trying to focus on my self in the mirror, trying to think a little more clearer Back at the bar, can't stop stirring my drink Paranoid everyone's looking at me Oh what they must think!! Gulp down the liquor, feel the bur ...
It's the end of Day 4 of the Outside Lands trip, and I've seen the mind-blowing Rio Grande Gulch in Taos, explored the Bellagio and Caesar's Palace in Vegas, stayed at a Travellodge in Dookietown,USA, and tonight I got to see Andrew Bird, Beck, and Antibalas (among others) in San Francisco. Finishing up Day 4, I saw Neil Young with Crazy Horse, played card games at a Frisco Irish Pub, and walked the night streets of San Francisco with good musician friends. Tomorrow should be fun, too.
Once again, I must ask myself the annual question: If I am all the way down here by Stern Grove, @ 2 1/2 miles away, and I can hear Outside Lands through my closed window like I'm less than a 100' from the stage, and the bass is vibrating the floor of my room, what in gawd's name must it be like if you actually live next to Golden Gate Park?? --and mind you, I'm a BIG supporter of live entertainment, and San Francisco being home to Great & Amazing Stuff To Do (rather than being a haven for NIMBYs and elitist no-fun'ners.) but still... Wow... this must pretty much suck for a lot of people.
Unless you have tickets to the highly anticipated Outside Lands Festival in Golden Gate Park, you are probably wondering what there is to do in San Francisco th

Living in the Bay Area is great, but sometimes there's an embarrassment of riches. This weekend, I need to choose among four major music festivals. San Francisco has Outside Lands, with Neil Young, Stevie Wonder, Metallica, Foo Fighters, Norah Jones and many, many more. Santa Cruz has the 50th Anniversary of the Cabrillo Music Festival, with some very interesting modern classical performances. Down in Hollister is the Good Old Fashioned Bluegrass Festival, which is always fun. Finally just a mile away is the San Jose Jazz Festival, with Dianne Reeves, Wayne Henderson, Terence Blanchard, etc. How can I possibly decide?
Of Monsters and Men and Tennis are among five bands worth a look on Neil Young day at Outside Lands in San Francisco.

So tired of the crappy line-up at every Outside Lands Festival. Except Norah Jones and Stevie Wonder. Indie music bores the *** out of me. Just reminds me of the crappy San Francisco music scene. One week left and I'm outta here.
