Today is Sunday, Jan. 25, the 25th day of 2015. There are 340 days left in the year. Today's Highlight in History: On Jan. 25, 1915, America's first official transcontinental telephone call took place as Alexander Graham Bell, who was in New York, spoke to his former assistant, Thomas Watson, who was in San Francisco, over a line set up by American Telephone & Telegraph. On this date: In 1533, England's King Henry VIII secretly married his second wife, Anne Boleyn, who later gave birth to Elizabeth I. In 1890, reporter Nellie Bly (Elizabeth Cochrane) of the New York World completed a round-the-world journey in 72 days, 6 hours and 11 minutes. The United Mine Workers of America was founded in Columbus, Ohio. In 1915, the U.S. Supreme Court, in Coppage v. Kansas, upheld the right of employers to bar employees from belonging to labor unions by making them sign a "yellow dog contract." Uber says New York and San Francisco had nothing on Paris for New Year’s Eve stamina
I am deeply saddened to hear about the passing of former New York Governor Mario Cuomo. Mario was a true New York icon, a man of great intellect and oratorical skill. As a delegate at the 1984 Democratic National Convention in San Francisco, I remember how much pride I and the other delegates felt when he gave what is arguably one of the best political speeches in history. Mario's life was the quintessential American success story, the son of Italian immigrants who rose from modest beginnings in Queens to the governor’s mansion in Albany. Having served with Governor Cuomo in the State Legislature I can say there was not a more ardent supporter of the working class. My condolences go out to Matilda Cuomo and the rest of Mario’s family during this difficult time, including his son and our current Governor, Andrew Cuomo, who as I watched just today at his second inaugural address, made his father proud.

A Trip through the 1960s in Haight-Ashbury The historical, groovy and fun neighborhood near Golden Gate Park Overview: As the Mamas & the Papas suggested in their hit 1967 song, "if you're going to San Francisco, be sure to wear some flowers in your hair." Good advice, especially if your visit includes a stop in the Haight. The song was written to promote the Monterrey Pop Festival in June 1967, an event that attracted some of rock's biggest names (Janice Joplin, Jefferson Airplane, Otis Redding, Jimi Hendrix and The Who) and that is widely regarded as the catalyst for the Summer of Love and two Years Later--Woodstock, the New York rock festival that helped define a generation. The Summer of Love in 1967 was arguably the Haight's heyday, when 100,000 high school and college-aged kids descended on the area to listen to and play music, experiment with drugs, explore new ideas about authority, sex, race and just be. Haight housing was cheap and plentiful for penniless hippies as a result of a proposed plan t ...

Bermuda to host 2017 America's Cup - report 11:45 AM Friday Nov 21, 2014 The tax haven of Bermuda has been picked over San Diego to host the 2017 America's Cup, a person with knowledge of the situation told The Associated Press today. Quite a day yesterday. A lovely gig by the up and coming Abigail Angus at WM Jazz Club in the afternoon. I like the fact that she and her band play so many of her own songs. A nearly full WM Jazz for China Crisis. Tommy Dean went on as support with a guitar borrowed from China Crisis, and maintained his near 100% record of breaking a guitar string. China Crisis were excellent, a couple of impressive new tracks and all their 1980's new wave hits. The 1980's was a bit of a golden decade for me. Graduation from the LSE, my beloved MGB roadster, the only previous car of mine whose number plate I can remember. Marriage, a couple of years in the Far East, cross border M&A, lecturing in Hong Kong, San Francisco, Chicago, New York and Spain, buying our first house for £48,000, youngest Finance Director of a listed company, the births of Christopher and Josh. Would I turn back the clock if I could? Wishful Thinking.

Rescued from a thread: I will always remember the time, early in my sojourn at the job from *** when I decided I wanted to go to Worldcon the following year. I submitted my time off schedule in writing the prior December. I repeated it in January. In March I was asked to schedule vacations for everyone in my apartment, so I produced a chart that included my plans and gave it to my boss again. Then the month before my vacation I reminded the bosses that it was coming up. Then again two weeks before. Then, I got called into the office and told something I had to take care of the following week. I told them I'd be in San Francisco. "But I thought you were going tomorrow?" "Yes, I am. But I will still be there next week. It's a ten day trip." "I thought you were just going for four days and that you'd be back on Monday!" "Nobody except a rich person flies from New York to the West Coast for four days. You do that you spend two whole days of your trip traveling and two days fighting jet lag. I told you I am .. ...

Every 5 years the global elite has starved to death approx. 54,750,000 people for corporate profit increases made from false food and resource scarcity. Here is the math: 16,000 children starve to death every day + 14,000 adults (approx.) = 30,000 x 365 = 10,950,000 x 5 = 54,750,000 That is more people than Hitler, Stalin, Mao, and George Bush combined; also consider the fact that it sure ain’t poor people who can afford their own slavery. Therefore it is safe to assume that the same global elite fund all these fascist slave regimes all over the planet, making our current elite the most spoiled, genocidal, and least responsible of them all. And it’s not like we don’t have the technology to solve these problems peacefully, except who wants peace and equality, when the promise of having billions of slaves is right in front of you? Farewell America How French Intelligence Wrote a Book about the Kennedy Assassination William Turner He was slight and fidgety, with a wispy mustache and fingertips yellowed by countless Gitanes. He called himself Herve Lamarr, but in the twilight world of intelligence that may not have been the name on his baptismal certificate. The Frenchman had called the day before, long distance, saying he had to see me. It was September 1968, three months after the assassination of Robert F. Kennedy in Los Angeles. I was familiar with Lamarr's project: a book titled Farewell America, which contended that the assassination of John F. Kennedy at Dallas on Nov. 22 was a conspiracy that robbed America of her future. As we sat in the coffee shop of the Fairmont Hotel on top of San Francisco's Nob Hill, I wondered what the great urgency was. Lamarr chitchatted earnestly, but had no punch line. I introduced Lamarr to Jim Rose, who was driving me to the airport to catch a plane for New York. Rose was a pilot who had flown C ...

ON THIS DATE (23 Years Ago) October 25, 1991 - Bill Graham/Wolodia Grajonca (b. January 8, 1931) tragically and sadly died in a helicopter crash, when it hit a 200ft utility tower in Sonoma County, California Born in Berlin, a Holocaust survivor and orphaned, fate eventually took him to America, where he stayed in a foster home in The Bronx in New York City. After being taunted as an immigrant and being called a Nazi because of his German accent, he taught himself a perfect New York accent, graduated from DeWitt Clinton High School, changed his name, and was drafted into the United States Army in 1951, serving in the Korean War, where he was awarded both the Bronze Star and Purple Heart. Graham moved from New York to San Francisco in the early 1960s to be closer to his sister, Rita. He was invited to attend a free concert in Golden Gate Park, where he made contact with the San Francisco Mime Troupe, a radical theater group. He gave up a promising business career to manage the troupe in 1965. After Mime Tr ...

San Francisco is playing at St. Louis tonight in NFL Monday Night Football on ESPN. San Francisco played at St. Louis last night in MLB NLCS baseball on FOX Sports 1. In football it's the 49ers vs. the Rams. In baseball it's the Giants vs. the Cardinals. The baseball Giants, now in San Francisco, were originally from New York. The New York football Giants played last night vs. the Philadelphia Eagles in NFL Sunday Night Football on NBC. The Rams originated in Cleveland in 1936, moved to Los Angeles in 1946 until 1994. Now the Rams are St. Louis' football team. St. Louis used to be the home of the football Cardinals, which are now based in Arizona. The baseball Cardinals advanced to play the baseball Giants by defeating the Los Angeles Dodgers. Los Angeles used to have the Rams and Raiders, but currently does not have a football team, while the Dodgers were originally from Brooklyn.

The artwork on this iconic "Poster From The Past" is quite similar to the art created for the more famous Radio City Music Hall poster, but this actually predates the New York version. Artists Dennis Larkins and Peter Barsotti designed this great image for a three-week series of shows at The Warfield Theater in San Francisco that began 34 Years Ago back on September 25th, 1980 and ran through October 14th. This poster was printed twice. Share the Good old Dead with a friend! Approval as always by Professor Poster
I’m all for protecting the environment, and we should continue to fully invest in technologies that can harness energy from the sun, wind and tides, with the goal of generating a large source of low cost power. However it always troubles me to see the Hollywood Stars that take leadership roles in environmental groups that complain about current fossil fuels being used when they live in multiple 25,000 sq ft mansions that require an abundance of energy to heat and AC and fly in private jets. Take Leo DiCaprio for example. He participated in the mid-day march, through midtown Manhattan along Central Park just two days before a United Nations summit on Tuesday at which world leaders will discuss how to decrease carbon emissions that scientists concerned about global warming believe threaten the environment. He always flies in private jets to multiple destinations around the world. According to The New York Times, a round-trip, commercial flight from New York to, say, San Francisco creates about three ton . ...

Apple has finally got the “big” religion. America’s biggest smartphone maker on Tuesday unveiled two new and larger-screen iPhones at a glitzy launch event in San Francisco. The event, which was one of the most anticipated in recent years, also saw the announcement of the Apple Watch, the company’s first foray into the wearable computing space, and Apple Pay, its take on smartphone payments. This was easily the most important keynote that Apple CEO Tim Cook has delivered since taking the reins from the late Steve Jobs in August 2011. The market liked what it saw, at least at first, pushing the share price up by as much as 5% in intraday trading. But it fell back sharply in late afternoon trading in New York to end down by 0,4%. It’s becoming increasingly difficult for Apple to keep anything it’s doing secret ahead of its big launch events. This year’s big iPhone event was no different. The new one will be available in two variants, the iPhone 6 and the iPhone 6 Plus. The former will feature ...

"Skyline of the World" begins on the right, near the terminal entrance, with some well-known and lesser-known buildings of New York. Continuing to the left, the skyline proceeds, including buildings from cities throughout the world. "Skyline of the World" juxtaposes well known international landmarks such as the Sydney Opera House with the Toronto City Hall and the Fuji TV Building in Tokyo. At the center of this procession, the Brooklyn Bridge appears from the wall behind it. The skyline then begins to narrow and become smaller, concluding at a point where passengers approach the concourses where they can glimpse the real New York skyline through the terminal's large windows. Structures representing American Airlines destinations from JFK -- including Chicago, San Francisco, London, Paris, Rome, Tokyo, Sao Paulo and Rio de Janeiro -- are all shown
Centuries-old Mystery Comes to Light The FACTS AS THEY ARE ALLEGED: On November 29, 1848, young Heinrich Muller set off from his upstate New York farm to the California goldfields. The 24-year-old left behind his wife, Eliza, a three-month old son, two brothers and his parents. His plan was to strike it rich and return to Oneida County and purchase more farm land. Muller survived the four-month steamship voyage to Panama, then slogged across the Isthmus before boarding another steamship for the two-week trip to San Francisco. Upon his California arrival, he wangled his way onto a wagon heading to the newly named “Hangtown” in the Sierra Nevada foothills. After six-weeks of digging with others, Muller had found a bit of gold, seen a hanging or two and had his picture taken with all his new equipment in Hangtown! In a letter dated April 14, 1849 he wrote of his plans to go solo gold panning. His goal was to head up 13 miles northwest to a mining camp called Pilot Hill. THE LETTER: Mrs. Eliza Muller Post ...

history of camera: The Committee for Accuracy in Middle East Reporting in America, or CAMERA, was founded in Washington, DC in 1982 by Winifred Meiselman, a teacher and social worker. Mrs. Meiselman formed CAMERA to respond to the Washington Post’s coverage of Israel’s Lebanon incursion, and to the paper’s general anti-Israel bias. Joining CAMERA’s Executive Board in the early days were such prominent Washington-area residents as Saul Stern and Bernard White. Win also recruited an Advisory Board which included Senators Rudy Boschwitz and Charles Grassley, Congressman Tom Lantos, journalist M. Stanton Evans, Ambassador Charles Lichenstein, Pastor Roy Stewart, and Rabbi David Yellin. Under Win’s leadership CAMERA created chapters in major cities, including New York, Chicago, Fort Lauderdale, Los Angeles, Miami, San Francisco, Philadelphia, and in 1988 a Boston chapter and office, founded and led by Andrea Levin. This Is Y Vaccination Is Sooo Important: Here are three of the diseases that have come back due to the anti-vaccine movement: 1. Measles After the measles vaccine was introduced in 1963, incidences of the diseases dropped by 99%. Since then, there have been an average of 60 measles cases per year in the U.S., but that number increased to 222 cases in 2011. Outbreaks have been reported in New York, Boston, Philadelphia, San Francisco and Los Angeles. 2. Mumps An ongoing outbreak at Ohio State University has resulted in 23 confirmed cases, and there was a similar outbreak at New York's Fordham University last month, with over a dozen students affected. Before the vaccine was introduced in 1967, there were 300,000 cases of mumps per year. Although that number sharply declined in later years to 200 incidences per year, in 2006 alone, there were 6,584 cases of mumps. Another outbreak in 2009 led to 3,400 cases. 3. Whooping cough At the height of the epidemic, whooping cough afflicted more than 250,000 children ...
July 1914 For five years AT&T had wanted to link the phone lines from one side of the country to the other. They finally found the device that could help them do it: Lee De Forest's "audions," the first vacuum tubes. They placed them along the 3,400 miles of wires connecting one coast to the other. As a voice signal traveled along the wires it naturally weakened. Every time it hit an audion, the signal was boosted. The first trial took place in July of 1914, when the president of the company, Theodore Vail, spoke from one coast to the other -- his voice boosted in Pittsburgh, Omaha, and Salt Lake City along the way. But the big celebration didn't occur until January 25, 1915, at a meeting in San Francisco. Sitting in New York, Alexander Graham Bell said into the phone what he had once said decades before: "Mr. Watson, come here. I want you." But this time Watson, sitting in San Francisco, replied, "It will take me five days to get there now!" Resources: -- Crystal Fire by Michael Riordan and Lillian Hodd ...

Victor The Overman Wheel Company gained international stature during the 1890s as the manufacturer of the Victor/Victoria bicycles, reputed to be the finest of the new model "safety" bicycles built in the United States. With offices in Boston, New York, Detroit, Denver, San Francisco, Los Angles, Portland, Oregon, and in Europe, Overman challenged Albert A. Pope's Columbia Bicycle Company of Hartford, Connecticut, for leadership in the booming bicycle business of the late nineteenth century. By 1897, prices began to fall, and cheap knockoffs flooded the market, damaging the reputation of companies such as the Overman Wheel Company, which would be forced into bankruptcy before going out of business after 1899. (masshist.org) However, in 1899 A. H. Overman decided to produce a Steam Car he called the Victor. Overman named his Steam Car after the bicycle that he made. Overman sold his Victor Bicycle business to the Stevens Arms & Tool Co. also of Chicopee Falls, MA in 1900. In 1901 A. H. Overman reorganized ...

June 19, 2014 is National Martini Day Today is National Martini Day! Although the exact origin of the martini is unknown, this iconic drink has earned a permanent place in the pantheon of classic cocktails. The first printed recipe for a “Martinez” cocktail appeared in a bartending manual published in San Francisco in 1887. However, historians disagree over whether the beverage actually originated on the West Coast. In 1911, a New York City bartender named Martini di Arma di Taggia began serving a cocktail made with gin, vermouth, orange bitters, and an olive garnish. The martini gained widespread popularity among Manhattan socialites, and has been associated with New York ever since. Today, 50% of all cocktails are served in a martini glass. Some of the most famous (historical and fictional) martini lovers include: John D. Rockefeller, Humphrey Bogart, Franklin D. Roosevelt, Clark Gable, Ernest Hemingway, and James Bond. To celebrate National Martini Day, enjoy a refreshing martini in the company of ...

June 8, 1896, Frank Maguire Mayo, famous stage actor and comedian, died in Grand Island Nebraska at the age of 57. He was best known for portraying Davy Crockett and Mark Twain's Pudd'nhead Wilson onstage. As a 17-year-old living in San Francisco, he began acting, soon performing with the Edwin Booth troupe in Shakespearean roles. His first real success was in the role of Badger in "The Streets of New York" in 1865. In 1872, the same year Buffalo Bill Cody visited the Bowery Theatre to see J.B. Studley wearing buckskin and portraying Cody, Mayo began appearing in a revival of the Davy Crockett role in a play titled "Davy Crockett: Or Be Sure You're Right, Then Go Ahead" which he continued to perform for 24 years, in both American and in England until his death. His homespun, humorous interpretation of the frontiersman, was based on the role portrayed by the illiterate Crockett himself as he campaigned for election in Tennessee when he spun tall tales surrounding his life growing up and whose speeches were ...

He is the son of a Pentecostal minister and a beauty shop owner and has two siblings. Washington first took the stage around the age of 7 or 8, appearing in a talent show at his local Boys & Girls Club. The club provided him with a safe place to be and to help keep him out of trouble. When he was 14, his parents' marriage broke down and he and his older sister were sent away to boarding school. Washington went to Fordham University, but he proved to be a poor student initially. After taking some time away from college, he returned to the university with a new interest in acting. The vote is expected to give momentum to campaigns across the US, from San Francisco and Chicago to New York State, to raise the incomes of minimum wage workers after Republicans in Congress blocked President Obama’s proposal for a national increase. But Sea ...

Maya Angelou (1928 – 2014): She Put A Smile on the Face of the World Written By Jonah Raskin I never met Maya Angelou but I knew her one and only son, Guy Johnson, who took me to the Sonoma Hotel on the plaza in the town of Sonoma and showed me the room where she wrote Gather Together in My Name, the second in the series of seven autobiographies that bear her name. If Guy was rightly proud of her so, too, America was proud of her, and perhaps the whole world as well that devoured her poetry, pondered her essays, made ample use of her cookbooks, watched her perform on stage and cheered as she recited “On the Pulse of the Morning” at Bill Clinton’s inauguration in 1993.  When she died on May 28, 2014 at the age of 86 the news traveled from North Carolina, where she was born, to Arkansas, where she spent part of her childhood, to San Francisco, New York, Tokyo, London, and the world of post-apartheid South Africa that her friend Nelson Mandela helped bring kicking and screaming into existence. She s ...
Did you know author & poet Maya Angelou was also a dancer. She studied dance & drama at the California Labor School & met dancers and choreographers Alvin Ailey & Ruth Beckford. Angelou & Ailey formed a dance team, calling themselves "Al and Rita". In her 20s, she moved to New York to study African dance with Trinidadian dancer Pearl Primus. In the early 1950s, she danced and sang calypso in night clubs in San Francisco.
"The precise Californian city in which the fortune cookie was invented is the subject of perhaps the most heated debate of our time – so heated, that there was actually a mock trial held in the ’80s to settle the dispute, and San Francisco won. These days, the largest manufacturers are in Brooklyn and New York, but as in many instances, San Francisco wins for tiniest, cutest, and making-it-by-handiest – in this case, for fortune cookie manufacturers."

For all you girls that thing your hipsters, think twice.. here's the definition... educa te yourself on what your trying to be that your not. Hipsters are a subculture of men and women typically in their 20's and 30's that value independent thinking, counter-culture, progressive politics, an appreciation of art and indie-rock, creativity, intelligence, and witty banter. The greatest concentrations of hipsters can be found living in the Williamsburg, Wicker Park, and Mission District neighborhoods of major cosmopolitan centers such as New York, Chicago, and San Francisco respectively. Although "hipsterism" is really a state of mind,it is also often intertwined with distinct fashion sensibilities. Hipsters reject the culturally-ignorant attitudes of mainstream consumers, and are often be seen wearing vintage and thrift store inspired fashions, tight-fitting jeans, old-school sneakers, and sometimes thick rimmed glasses. Both hipster men and women sport similar androgynous hair styles that include combinatio ...

If Los Angeles has an inferiority complex, it's usually in regard to New York. Our deal with San Francisco and the Greater Bay Area was never about feeling inferior. Far from it. They sneered at us, but we never bothered to sneer back. San Francisco always seemed so pretty and...
Did you know there is an edible garden for inmates on Rikers Island in New York? Reoffending has dropped to 6% for those involved!! Compare that to 29% recidivism rate for those who don't garden!! Check out some more successful prison gardens in the link below. "These types of programs not only enhance the environment by increasing the green:asphalt ratio, but growing food near prison sites improves the nutritional intake of the inmates, as well as trains them for green jobs when they get out—a track that when followed has been proven to reduce the rate at which former inmates return to prison. One study in San Francisco showed that 29 percent of prisoners were re-arrested within four months of their release, while only 6 percent of those who partook in a gardening program were re-arrested."
My commencement address to the Class of 2014. Wherever you are... get out. Even if you grew up in cool cities like New York or San Francisco, or Chicago or Nashville... get out. There is way more to life than your hometown, as much as you love it, and you always will... or you might even hate it and you don't need this verbal push. The world is big, time is short. Live hard, love fast, experience everything, travel, travel, travel, and experience things your mother said was "bad for you", but remember to never take things to extreme... like drugs and alcohol for instance... they can be bad, and I know this from experience. Pursue all dreams, but if they don't come true, you might have to resort to other means to make a living, and that resort might become a rewarding career... so, be open to it, unless that resort is prostitution or a corporate investor. You are NOT the only person on Earth, and your entry into this world isn't any more special than the billions of others who inhabit this marble, s ...

Coffee History.1956 " Those were the days my friend, we thought they'd never end" This is the beginning of the modern era of coffee houses in areas such as North Beach in San Francisco and Greenwich Village in New York where Jazz beats play and intellectuals, poets, and the avant-garde exchange revolutionary ideas of politics and philosophy over coffee and espresso. This gives rise to the counter-culture of the Beatniks, Bohemians, and other free thinkers and their rebellion against traditions, setting the stage for the political and cultural revolutions of the 1960s.
Jurgen Klinsmann dropped veteran Eddie Johnson and called up teenager Julian Green when he named his preliminary squad for the US national team’s appearance at the World Cup in Brazil this summer. The USMNT head coach has largely gone with the tried and tested players who guided the team through qualifying. Bayern Munich's Julian Green made the 30-man roster, as did youngsters DeAndre Yedlin and John Brooks but Stoke City's Brek Shea and DC United's Johnson missed out Clint Dempsey will captain the side, which also includes plenty of World Cup experience with Tim Howard, Michael Bradley and Jozy Altidore . Life and careerr Myers was born in San Francisco, the daughter of an Australian rabbi and Austrian Jewish mother.[1] Her father became well-connected with California's emerging film industry, and introduced her to film pioneer D. I don't think I could have lived in any of the five New York City Burroughs. I guess if I was born in one it would have been different. I never liked LA much, but but I didn't spend much time there. That Big Hollywood sign and those sidewalks in Hollywood with all the stars footprints outside of Grauman's Chinese theater was good for a day. I've always been culturally and geographically adaptable. I loved the Bay Area and the city of San Francisco and the fresh sea food at the piers but I felt more at home in the desert, for some reason it fit my personality. It's Friday the weekend begins, there is a breeze and it's happy hour so I think I'll go see if I can get some cute bartender to put a smile on my face!...
“I know. I think you guys are pretty insane to try it.” “That’s us, the State Funhouse Opera Company and barbecue. Don’t worry, though, we had most of the casting figured out before we even scheduled it. Got a mezzo from New York to play Cherubino.” “Wow! Do you have to fly her out?” “Not at all. For a real mezzo, the chance to play Cherubino – and actually get paid for it – that’s worth a lot. She’s lucky if she breaks even on the deal – but then she’ll have that role on her resume. And Colby – that’s the lyric you heard – she’s up from San Francisco. And we’re talking to a Count from Fresno.”

There was a lovely memorial service for my Mom at her church this morning. Part of it was a time for friends and family members to say things. Here's what I said. When my Mom was in the Coast Guard in W.W. II she was stationed in New Orleans and she met a handsome sailor and married him. That was my father. He was a good fellow, from all I've learned. The problem was that he had a girl back home he really wanted to go back to. So the marriage ended. I wound up being raised by my Mom's parents. They were wonderful people and they were very good to me. Too good to me, probably.. In any event when I was growing up with my grandparents and my Mom was raising her Davis family in Mentor-On-The-Lake I didn't see her all that often and never got to know her very well. Years went by. In the late 1990's I was in San Francisco making my living as a sidewalk banjo player. A friend of mine in New York wanted to meet me in Las Vegas. At the same time my Mom was going to Las Vegas for the purpose of seeing t ...

WEST - Oakland Athletics Wild Card - Kansas City Royals Wild Card - Tampa Bay Rays (I also think that Baltimore, New York, and maybe Cleveland will be in it as well)

I am searching for any information on my great grandmother. Her name was Bertha Warshauer Kaplan and all I know is that she was born in Russia (now the Ukraine) in 1885 and died in San Francisco in 1967. They immigrated to SF (not thru New York) and she had one sister whose name I am struggling to remember. Husband was David Kaplan. I am working on ways to get more on the Kaplan side but the Warshauer side is also of interest. Is anyone else connected to or searching for this name? Thanks!! Laura

Leaving from San Francisco to go sailing around South America, then up to New York. Then back.
Demetrie Kabbaz, a dear friend from my younger days, passed away on March 25 in St. Louis. He is a great artist and spent days creating art in St. Louis, San Francisco, New York, Los Angeles and Santa Fe. He had just turned 70. He loved Marilyn Monroe and painted her endlessly. We used to drive through Forest Park in St. Louis singing show tunes and dreaming dreams. Our dreams were so big! Check out the link to his site and do scroll down on page 1 to see the link to collections thing that Love is continuous... Here is a Marilyn called Au Revoir.
Federal law enforcement agents arrested California State Sen. Leland Yee (D) and Charlotte Mayor Patrick Cannon (D), and raided the offices of New York State Assemblyman William Scarborough (D) in connection with unrelated corruption investigations on Wednesday. Yee was arrested at his home Wednesday morning and indicted on public corruption and bribery charges. Hundreds of FBI, IRS and local police officers also raided offices in the San Francisco Bay area and arrested several people, including Raymond "Shrimp Boy" Chow, former head of a Hong Kong-based crime gang. Both Yee, a candidate for California secretary of state, and Chow were scheduled to appear before U.S. Magistrate Judge Nathanael Cousins in San Francisco Wednesday afternoon.
In other news, have started selling Cliffs Bars. This makes me happy. I can pretend I'm in New York or San Francisco again.
Start spreading the news... New York, your obsession with San Francisco is getting a little creepy
