San Francisco is considered one of the greatest cities in the world for many things, including five-star dining, a happening theater scene, and *** and *** culture. And, beyond the fifty-square-mile city, in the surrounding Bay Area, there’s so much more to explore, including Silicon Valley’s innovations, Marin’s Headlands, the vineyards of Napa Valley and Sonoma County, and Berkeley’s free spirit. For more information on travel in the area, contact the San Francisco Travel Association .

Anyone know of nice and affordable hotels in the Napa Valley and San Francisco area?
This morning we had a nice big sleep in in Napa Valley, I think the first of our trip so far. We stopped in at a restaurant for breakfast, I had so much food that I could barely finish it and it cost me less than a packet of gum. $2.89 for a full meal. We then hit the road and headed to Monterey which is a gorgeous little beach side town. We walked down to the sea side and saw lots of seals laying on the rocks, and squirrels running around the beach. We visited a place called Lovers Point and climbed up the mountains of rocks to overlook the ocean and get a great view of birds. We then headed on to Carmel, which now tops San Francisco as my favourite place. It was a gorgeous little European style town full of art galleries, antique stores, wineries, and restaurants. We then continued our journey on to San Luis Obispo where we drove on Big Sur, which was absolutely incredible. I'm not even sure how to describe how stunning it was. While we were driving we had the sun setting over the ocean to one side, and ...

NAPA — Lodging and tourism spending in the Napa Valley showed significant gains in 2013, bolstered in part by strong branding and a positive economic impact from the recent America’s Cup in San Francisco, tourism officials said.
What a three weeks it has been. Quit my last job on the 1st. Spent a lovely week off with my Michael and The Buster playing tourists in lovely San Francisco and Marin County. Started a new job on the 11th and have worked straight through until a few moments ago. Met a lot of great people at my new company Monday to Thursday, then flew to New Orleans for a convention last Friday. Gave a presentation on two protocols, about an ophthalmology molecule we are studying, that I know virtually nothing about. :). (somehow I still managed to impress. I am guessing it was the Prada suit and new shades). Also spent a lot of time walking the streets of the French Quarter, healing a few very old wounds that I suffered while living there in 1987, and thankfully finally found peace, forgiveness and compassion. Arrived back in SF Wednesday at midnight, in the office Thursday, and then spent the day today at cooking school/team building in the famous Sonoma/Napa Valley. The food we prepared, the bonding of new co workers, ...
I am in San Rafael just outside San Francisco. Going Wine tasting in Napa Valley on Sunday. I was at Stinson Beach for the day. The surf sucked! I am going to Laramie WY next week then back to Atlanta next Thursday and back to work. Fun week!! Found a house!!
So you think that you're a VIP? Well, here's... "The Ultimate VIP" thanks to Marco Brown The Pope has just finished a tour of the Napa Valley and is taking a limousine to San Francisco. Having never driven a limo, he asks the chauffeur if he can drive for a while. Since the chauffeur really doesn't have much of a choice, he climbs in the back of the limo and the Pope takes the wheel. The Pope proceeds down Silverado, and starts accelerating to see what the limo can do. He gets to about 90 MPH, and suddenly he sees the red and blue lights of the Highway Patrol in his mirror. He pulls over and the trooper comes to his window. The trooper, seeing who it is, says, 'Just a moment please, I need to call in.' The trooper calls in and asks for the chief. He tells the chief that he's got a REALLY important person pulled over, and asks how he should handle it. 'It's not Ted Kennedy again is it?' asks the chief. 'No Sir!' replies the trooper, 'This guy's more important.' 'Is it the Governor?' asks the chief. 'No! Ev ...
We had a great day exploring San Francisco. We saw the Golden Gate Bridge, the sea lions at Pier 39, then hiked to Lombard street (the most crooked, and I would say steep street in the world) and walked to Chinatown. We rode the trolley and a 1948 Cable Car still in commission. Looking forward to exploring Napa Valley this afternoon after class this morning.
...so thankful for these next two weeks off! Heading to San Francisco, Napa Valley, Lake Tahoe & then Dallas. I am blessed (: let the fun begin!

Then a tour of Yosemite for tiur and lunch, The wine train through Napa Valley and lunch on train execellent eneded with a tour of San Francisco! Glad to be back in Fl:)
Once again the trip to San Francisco was a treat... I left from the Old Persidio area once a base and now mostly a park and housing. The Bay stretches out towards downtown and soon the Golden Gate Bridge is in sight and Alcatraz out my passenger side window. Like a partially submerged turtle it sits there and guards the Bay and the memories of incarceration with little hope. Soon Marin County and Sausalito comes and goes. Next I pass through the last urban area considered Bay Area, a place called Santa Rosa, a bedroom community that sprawls out and a reminder of the burbs expansion. Soon we are in Wine Country, places like Ukiah, Alexander Valley, Knights valley, and not far to the East the famous Napa Valley. Lines of vintage grapes arranged like organized troops ready to march into battle in perfect formations. It always reminds me of Tuscany Italy in this part of California, its almost identical in weather and soil fauna and humidity. Perfect for wine... Next we drive through Willits and a sign that re ...
Just landed in San Francisco and feeling excited like a kid! If any friend is in the Bay Area let's meet! I'll be staying here for the next 2 weeks, mainly between Palo Alto and SF (and Napa Valley : )

Almost 500 Light Blues fans who have travelled from as far afield as the UK, Russia and Australia are in California for the annual gathering. This is the 21st version of the event which brings together supporters from North America and beyond. Last night’s unofficial welcome evening was a big hit as most of those attending congregated for the first time at the city’s Hyatt Regency hotel on Embarcadero. First-team stars Andy Little, Fraser Aird and Ross Perry took part in an exclusive question and answer session. Legendary Nine in a Row skipper Richard Gough was also interviewed before a disco ran into the early hours. Today a golf day is taking place as well as a wine tour around Napa Valley and a football match in memory of absent friends. With a number of other functions to look forward to between now and Sunday, Ferguson is sure it will be a weekend for everyone ...

Hey everybody! I'm in Napa valley tonight. I am having a blast! Yesterday, we toured San Francisco. Saw China Town, Telegraph Hill and lots of other exciting places. This morning we took a tour of Alcatraz. What an experience! I hope each and everyone of you has the chance to visit it someday. I have photos and will post them later. Just too exhausted now. After the tour, we ate at a delightful Mexican restaurant. Oh yes, yesterday it was Thai food and that was delicious as well. Peggy and I are enjoying this trip immensely. Just wish we could keep up with those two young men who brought us! Can you believe they walked a section of Alcatraz that is the equivalent of a 13-story building? Tomorrow I think we're going to visit a winery here in Napa Valley. Now it's time for a hot, hot, hot shower! And my bed will be calling me immediately afterwards. More tomorrow.
I'm reading the most amazing book, The Inventor and the Tycoon, which is about the railroad tycoon Leland Stanford and the pioneering photographer Eadweard Muybridge, who was an early news sensation for killing a man. Muybridge's experimentation with motion led to the making of movies. Much of the book takes place in San Francisco and the surrounding area, including Yosemite, Napa Valley, Oakland and Sacramento.
Ok so far my new and improved Discovering California film project will include Napa Valley, Sacramento, Tahoe, Yosemite, Big Sur, San Francisco, LA, Sequoia & King's Canyon, Death Valley, Joshua Tree, Monterey, Malibu, Palm Springs, Hollywood, Disneyland, Borrego Springs and of course San Diego. Is there anything I'm missing?? Let me know! I will go there! Lol
•Maryland Senators Barbara Mikulski and Ben Cardin will collect what they call a “San Francisco feast” of Dungeness crabs, Napa Valley wine, sourdough bread and Northern California cheeses as the result of a Super Bowl wager. [CBS Sports]
Joe Montana's Former San Francisco Condo for Sale under: News, Celebrity Homes Whether you're rooting for the San Francisco 49ers to win the Super Bowl or not, you'll probably still agree that former 49ers quarterback (and all-around football legend) Joe Montana has scored some touchdowns in real estate. Not only does he have a stunning $35 million Tuscan-style estate in California's Wine Country, but Joe Cool also used to live in some sweet digs in San Francisco. Though his former San Francisco condo is way more low-key than his Napa Valley mansion (like way, way more low-key), it's still totally nice. The spacious home offers wood-burning fireplaces, nine-foot ceilings, a private roof deck and views over the Golden Gate Bridge. It's still pricey -- $5,000 a month to rent -- but much more affordable than Montana's $35 million home (which has been on the market for a while). Plus, for added football star power, rumor has it that former wide receiver Dwight Clark also lived in the San Francisco townhouse, ...
The weather has been beautiful in San Francisco! We enjoyed a Cable Car ride to Fisherman's Wharf, walking along Pier 39 and dinner at Union Square. Tomorrow we will head to Napa Valley and visit the vineyards for a couple of days before heading back to Atlanta.
Places I want to go in the next four years: Seattle, Boston, San Francisco, Napa Valley, New Orleans, NYC, Washington DC, Orlando, somewhere in Maine on the coast, Las Vegas a couple of times (hopefully once a year) Pittsburgh and Philadelphia, someplace in Mexico and at Venice, Italy and back to London. Guess I better buy some lottery tix, huh?
traveled by train from Chicago to Portland Oregon. it took 51 hours. should have only taken 48 hrs. but waiting for frieght trains and hitting a cow delayed us by 3 hrs. yes, I said hit a cow. beef tartar. wow. drove over 1954 miles in rental van and saw wonderous sights in the Oregon coast, Napa Valley, San Francisco, Golden Gate Bridge, Fishermans Wharf, then south to Carmel, Big Sur and coast highway. words can't discribe. Then east to Sequoia Natioal Park and was dwarfed by th giant trees. awe struck. then on to Yosemite. Wow. From there to Lake Tahoe and Reno. Side trips to Carson City and Virginia City. Caught the train in Reno and took it east to Chicago, with the beautiful Rockies in between. what a wonderful trip. enjoyed it so much with my wife, JoAnn and Don. thank you all for making it a trip of a lifetime. My love to you
Big win today on THE DOVE 105.5 Tampa Bay, Florida - $105 and a chance to win the DOVE destination vacation flyaway (1 out of 9 chance) to the Napa Valley and San Francisco, but they probably will throw my name out of the drawing! Wish me luck this Friday and GO DOVE (give it a try and listen online)!!
For its November issue, Travel & Leisure magazine has put out its list of 101 places worldwide--no particular order--that form, as they put it, 'the traveler's core curriculum.' Going by the cities or regions (not necessarily the named attractions), I live in one (No. 40), I've been to 17, and I see two or three that might well be added to the list by the time next year's list comes out. And the list is: Huangzhou (6), Vegas (7), a Mayan site (Uxmal, 11), NYC (14), British Columbia (28), San Francisco (33), Viequez, P.R. (39), L.A. (41), Napa Valley (45), Big Sur (47), Chicago (51), Charleston, SC (54), Amsterdam (55), Sedona, AZ (60), Beijing (65), Monument Valley, UT (93), and New Orleans (95). The most glaring omission?? Shanghai. Easy call.
Brother Les and SIL Kathe offered us a most gracious vacation in California which we would like to thank them for. Their home is lovely and cozy with 3 Sequoias off their deck...a very Zen place. Monterrey Bay, Cannery Row, Carmel, Napa Valley, Sonoma Valley, Bodega Bay, and San Francisco are all spectacular. Of course, the different cuisines and wines were a treat. And we flew on JetBLUE on very clear days so we got a great view of the country. I didn't find the TSAs to be at all invasive. Certainly a trip to remember. We had a wonderful time. :D
We're back home in Michigan following a wonderful nine days in California, spent in the Bay Area and Napa Valley. Sorry to leave, but it's always good to get home, even to rainy weather. The cats were certainly glad to see us. Many thanks to John Partridge for putting on the Napa Valley Ragtime Festival, and thanks also to Marty Eggers, Larisa Migachyov, and Craig Ventresco for inviting me to perform in their venues. Between gigs we explored San Francisco, visited Muir Woods, toured Napa Valley by train, and spent time with our son in Mountain View. Had a lovely time. To paraphrase the ex-governor: We'll be back.
Got back from San Francisco , Wow, great place , great sightseeing. Food? Whoa. Outstanding. Had every event going there. Blue Angels, Americas Cup , Not So Blue Grass at Golden Gate Park. The Giants, A's and 1,000,000 folks with 700 parking spots. We still had a great time. Went to Napa Valley for a couple of days and saw an Auto Zone and O'Rilley's. What's up with that?.
Finally back from a week in San Diego, Carmel, Napa Valley and San Francisco.good to be home but a great time! Alcatraz was very interesting but we were in San Fran at the same time as the America cup races, Blue Angels air show , 49rs game, baseball play-off game and a biker convention.what crowds!
Didn't sleep at all last night. Tossed and turned in bed with a lousy cold. Left the hotel in San Francisco at 04:30 AM missed our first flight to LA, made the second one, and now Lizzy and I are chilling in the terminal waiting for our flight to MIA. Saw one movie star, Ben Kingsley, he won the Oscar for Gandhi, and was in the movie, Shutter House, among many others. It was cool, he kept walking in front of us talking on his cell phone. This cold is driving me nuts. I haven't had a honeymoon yet. I was sick the whole time I was here. Although the castle tour in Napa Valley was good.
Driving from San Francisco to Napa Valley. Had a really bad experience with Best Western the night before. #
The Wine Country is a region of Northern California in the United States known as a premium wine-growing region. Viticulture and wine-making have been practiced in the region since the mid-19th century. There are over 400 wineries in the area north of San Francisco, mostly located in the area's valleys, including Napa Valley in Napa County, and the Sonoma Valley, Alexander Valley, Dry Creek Valley, Bennett Valley, and Russian River Valley in Sonoma County. Wine grapes are also grown at higher elevations, such as Atlas Peak and Mount Veeder AVAs. The region is defined not only in terms of viticulture, but also its ecology, geology, architecture, cuisine, and culture. The majority of the grape harvest, in terms of both area and value, derives from Sonoma County. Communities associated with the Wine Country include Santa Rosa, Kenwood, Healdsburg, Sonoma, Napa, Yountville, St. Helena, Calistoga, Geyserville, Petaluma, Sebastopol, Guerneville, historic Fort Ross and Ukiah.
Curious Facts about San Francisco, California, the Golden Gate, Alcatraz, San Francisco Coffee Shops, Sutro Baths, the Silicon Valley and Napa Valley.
I am home and recovering from the Paulding High School Reunion Party in Hiram, Georgia (west of hotlanta). anyway we had a great time. Tomorrow we fly to Las Vegas for a week and then up and down the California coast for a couple of weeks, I get to see the Grand Canyon, San Francisco, LA, Yosemite, Bryce Canyon, Napa Valley, and a day deep sea fishing with a buddy of mine. I gotta catch a plane to Chicago in the morning and then on to Vegas by probably around 5pm. Hey that's happy hour! We are gonna meet out good friends John and Eve and do a little gamblin' jeepers it's 2am, I better get to bed... later gator!
Kate and I have just returned from our trip to California where we were celebrating our one year wedding anniversary! We were in the beautiful and ultra-impressive Napa Valley and Sonoma Valley Wine Country for 4 nights and then 2 nights in the very cool city of San Francisco. We have put together a short slide show of our trip. The music is pretty cheesy but I guess we are too…. Check it out via the link below:
Thank you Larry Ellison - we love you too. "Although the Napa Valley Vintners have signed a deal to make Napa Valley wines the official wines of the America’s Cup and its activities, the Oracle Team has selected New Zealand winery Man O’ War Vineyards as its preferred supplier for the 2013 America’s Cup race in San Francisco."
Had a great day. Toured a Winery in the Napa Valley, went to San Francisco and visited China Town, Fisherman Warf, the Golden Gate Bridge and AT&T Ballpark. Lake Tahoe tomorrow
Yesterday was awesome!! First we visited Muir Woods. It is a national park that draws people in because of the huge redwood trees. We hiked about two miles and enjoyed the rushing brooks and and the lovely redwoods. We then went to Napa valley to tour a winery. It was awesome as well. We then went to Tiberon, with a beautiful view and had dinner. Finally we went up into the mts amd took pictures of the Golden Gate Bridge and San Francisco. It was breathtaking. Wow!
I finally added comments to the California album. We flew in and out of LA, rented a car and drove up Hwy 1 to San Francisco, on to Napa Valley, Yosemite, Kings Canyon and Seqouias. It is a beautiful state!
The first great temple. The Illuminati are building their temples secretly throughout the United States. The last issue of this newsletter described the massive pyramid that has been built at Los Vegas. Pyramids have also been built at San Francisco (the Trans-America building) and in Chicago, and in other eastern places. The San Francisco building was built by people with ties to the Rockefellers. Just north of San Francisco and east of the Bohemian Grove is the Napa Valley of California. Anton LaVey moved to Napa Valley after his split with Aquino. LaVey ran a construction company during the 1910. out of Napa, CA. (As an aside, Anton LaVey’s chief representative in our Portland area is Rex ,,Diablos" Church, who grew up as Rex Nance in Seaside High School on the Oregon coast. Rex worked at the drug store at Broadway and Holiday at Seaside during high school. Two years after high school he returned to his hometown with his head shaved and wearing black in LaVey fashion. He had a stripper who dressed in ...

In Northern California Wine Country, Napa Valley and Sonoma County get all the attention. Another wine region I love is Livermore Valley, an easy drive from San Jose and Silicon Valley, and 35 miles east of San Francisco.
Backstage JBJ members are invited to a very special fan club-only trip to San Francisco and Napa Valley from August 26-29, that includes an intimate evening of conversation and music with Jon Bon Jovi

Amy and I are off on vacation to Los Altos, Napa Valley and San Francisco for 10 days. This is the first actual vacation I have taken in over 10 years. Looking forward to meeting the rest of Amy's family and her life-long girlfriends.
Yesterday was our sons birthday, he & his wife have been in Napa Valley, CA., (we've had the kids), his wife gave him two rounds of golf at Pebble Beach ( a dream of his Dads), Dennis just called me to say Matt is flying him out to San Francisco on Sat. to play with him. Home Depot was good enough to let him miss work on the spur of the moment. Priceless. Our Lord is so good.
Hiking in Yosemite for two days then an awesome dinner on a train through Napa Valley. Woke up this morning to enjoy a Hot Air Balloon ride over Wine Country. Just leaving San Francisco where we had lunch and now on our way to the coast to relax in Santa Cruz. God is so good to my family!
Brian explores one of the Bay Area's least traveled roads, heading north of Calistoga and south of Clear Lake. It's a drive ignored by nearly all Napa Valley wine tasters, who typically end their trip where ours begins.
Today is Todd Carrell's 50th birthday! To Dr. Todd, working in one of America's most economically distressed cities as the chief psychiatrist of a mental hospital, you earn every cent you make. It takes a special person to tend to the the needs of those who are unable to do that themselves, and Todd does it unselfishly and with great humility. I was honored to be his best man at his wedding back in 1995. Only Todd would get married at a vineyard in Napa Valley. His bride, Penny, looked beautiful, and we had a blast that day. Giving the toast to Todd and Penny was one of my greatest moments in my life. I have remembered when he was a med student at Baylor in Houston, an intern at Baylor Hospital in Dallas, and helped him move to the Bay Area back in 1992. We drove his 1969 Cadalliac Convertible from Dallas to San Francisco. We had just left Bishop, California when we experienced strong winds on the road. Signs were all over the place, warning us of this. A local police officer pulled us over; Tod ...

We didn't make many Kms yesterday but did have lots of bucket list experiences. 1. Hiked 5 miles into Ano Neuvo state park to experience elephant seals up close and personal. Wowww 2. Survived San Francisco's crawling traffic without having an accident. 3. Drove up some of the steepest streets I have ever seen in my life... In the mighty Matrix. Then drove the crookedest street in the world ! Lombard street :) 4. Drove across the Golden Gate Bridge. Now, today heading for the Napa Valley for a little celebratory wine.
Just an hour north of San Francisco, Napa Valley is home to some of the best Wine Country in the world, as well as many other attractions. In addition to the city of Napa, the Napa Valley extends north to Calistoga and south to American Canyon. Throughout the Valley, visitors will find a distinctive...
I had an enjoyable trip Easter Week with the Spokane Symphony Associates to San Francisco. In just four days we accomplished a great deal. We visited two wineries in the Napa Valley, saw exhibits at the Legion of Honor Museumand the DeYoung Museum, toured Alcatraz, heard the San Francisco Symphony with Itzak Perlman as bothviolin soloist and conductor, and saw three Balanchine ballets with the San Francisco Ballet Company. Our hotel was the Warwick, located conveniently just two blocks from Union Square on Geary St.
