Several roads are in danger of forming black ice. The 18 to Big Bear is shut down. The grape vine is very likely next to shut down. Early this morning at 530 am, my son flew out of Las Vegas to Grandma's house for Christmas 2014. She took him to restaurants for breakfast in San Francisco, cable car rides for lunch, shopping in North Beach and then home to the Wine Country where she decided to teach her grandson how to play the piano - Goal Grandma has had for the past four years - All the children had to learn the keyboard - What Grandma noticed (as shown in the video) is that her little Vegas baby dances like a performer on a casino stage playing his piano, "He moved like a stripper." Everybody suggested in their text messages to me; Psychology, early environmental factors, childhood development, bad dad raising his son in the Entertainment Capital of the World and taking him to events like First Friday in the Arts District? * As a publisher with a love for writing, I am sorry for sharing this ridiculously long chapter in my life, but it hasn't even been 24 hours and I miss my boy terribly. My Annual Christmas Letter 2014 to Friends & Family... January 2014 was a wonderful travel month for me. I spent 15 days on the road in my Jeep starting out at Lake Tahoe – Stateline to take in a concert at Harrah’s seeing one of my favorite bands, “Starship” – with Mickey Thomas. A new lady vocalist has joined the band to replace Grace Slick who sings the Oldie favorite, “White Rabbit” that made their former band, Jefferson Airplane, popular in the 1960’s with the San Francisco concert fans at Bill Graham’s Concert venues, the Avalon & Fillmore & Winterland Ballrooms. Harrah’s Showroom was packed to capacity that night with all old “hippie” fans. It was great fun! My Road Trip took me next to an overnight spent at Mono Lake, and the Tufa Trail hike to see the unusual rock formations that encircle parts of the shoreline of the lake. Tufa is a variety of limestone formed by the precipitation of carbonate minerals from ambient temperature water bodies. Next stop was Las Vegas and the ...

Saturday, November 29, 2014 Today in Elvis Presley History 1955 Elvis performed in "The Mosque Theater" Richmond, Virginia for "The Philip Morris Employees Night" 1958 - Elvis Presley's single "I Got Stung" hit in the U.S. 1962 Elvis returns to Memphis from Las Vegas and is greeted with bad news: his first nationwide tour in three years has fallen through, the result of an inability for the Colonel and RCA to come to terms on the details. The 43-date tour would have netted Elvis one million dollars. 1966 Elvis is tuned in to radio station WHBQ when he hears Tom Jones singing "Green, Green Grass Of Home." He calls the radio station and requests the song over and over again -although Mafia member Red West had brought the song to his attention in 1965 and was told it was "too country"! 1976 Elvis performed at the Cow Palace, San Francisco, California at 8:30 p.m. The crowd was 14300 and Elvis wore "Blue Swirl" suit with the White two-piece suit belt. Ok, just got back from the new Planet of the Apes movie and I just have to announce publicly that I don't think I can take much more. I'm exhausted. I mean I'm living in a world of crumpled architecture, shattered glass and twisted metal. Why is anyone still flying to the West Coast anymore? Between Godzilla and Pacific Rim I know that San Francisco is just a smoking ruin. And after Edge of Tomorrow Western Europe is just a crater and X-Men and Captain America reduced the Washington mall to ash. The Fast and Furious franchise has our highway system clogged with speeding tanks hauling room-sized bank vaults leaving flattened cars in their wakes. And I didn't even bother with Transformers this year. I remember when John Malkovich and Nicholas Cage crash landed a C130 cargo plane full of criminals on the Las Vegas Strip a few years ago asking what they could possibly reduce to cinders next. I should've known better than to ask. I just can't take anymore. I want to read an 18th century novel of manners in a s ...

With 2014 nearing its halfway point, a broad spectrum look at more than 380 markets nationwide confirms home prices jumped 11.3 percent in 2013’s final quarter compared to the year prior. CoreLogic released Tuesday its own quarterly Case-Shiller Indexes, assembled using the company’s proprietary data supplemented with statistics from the Federal Housing Finance Agency (FHFA). The analysis differs from the monthly S&P/Dow Jones Case Shiller Indices in that it covers a wider range of markets over a different time frame. While price percentages nationwide were up by double-digits in Q4, seven cities managed to shoot up into the 20 percent range year-over-year, with Las Vegas leading at 25.6 percent growth. The remaining six cities were all in California: Riverside (+23.8 percent), Oakland (+23.3 percent), Sacramento (+23.0 percent), Los Angeles (+20.3 percent), San Jose (+20.1 percent), and San Francisco (+20.0 percent). The sharp increase comes as no surprise for the region, which has suffered from low ...

There was a lovely memorial service for my Mom at her church this morning. Part of it was a time for friends and family members to say things. Here's what I said. When my Mom was in the Coast Guard in W.W. II she was stationed in New Orleans and she met a handsome sailor and married him. That was my father. He was a good fellow, from all I've learned. The problem was that he had a girl back home he really wanted to go back to. So the marriage ended. I wound up being raised by my Mom's parents. They were wonderful people and they were very good to me. Too good to me, probably.. In any event when I was growing up with my grandparents and my Mom was raising her Davis family in Mentor-On-The-Lake I didn't see her all that often and never got to know her very well. Years went by. In the late 1990's I was in San Francisco making my living as a sidewalk banjo player. A friend of mine in New York wanted to meet me in Las Vegas. At the same time my Mom was going to Las Vegas for the purpose of seeing t ...

Well Joe has arrived in America! First stop San Francisco, a visit to Alcatraz and then onto Death Valley, Las Vegas and The Hoover Dam, a helicopter flight over the Grand Canyon, then onto Los Angeles taking in Universal Studios and a basketball game, a lazy day on Venice beach then back home. Phew!! A very fun filled 10 day trip! Why couldn't our school trips be this exciting? A stomach churning ferry crossing to France, with a three night stay in a damp hostel, was all I went on at high school. How things have changed! Thomas and I are missing him already. x

How high is up? Halfway because the other half is down, right? But let's put it in perspective. The ISS (International Space Station) orbits at a height of 205 miles to 255 miles, depending on mission requirements. The distance between Los Angeles and San Francisco is about 346 miles, about 1-1/2 times the height of ISS. Los Angeles to Las Vegas is about 223 miles. Lake Ontario is about 190 miles long. The Chesapeake Bay is about 200 miles long. So, how high is up? I guess that depends on where you're headed.

Information to Empower Filipinos Feature: La Union's famous son to promote anti-cancer product BY: JOANNE NAMNAMA G. PARROCHA Friday 10th of January 2014 603 577 4 1 5 SAN FERNANDO CITY, January 10 (PIA) – One of La Union’s prominent sons is behind a nutritional product that may yet lead to a major breakthrough in disease prevention. An Ilocano geneticist, Dr. Alfredo Galvez discovered the anti-cancer properties of Lunasin that is found in soy during his post-doctoral research at the University of California in Berkeley. Lunasin, a Filipino word meaning to heal or to remedy, was shown to disrupt cancer cell division and prevent tumor formation. His research named LunaRich X was recently awarded the 2013 People’s Choice Stevie Awards for Favorite New Consumer Product and a bronze Stevie Award at the 11th American Business Awards in San Francisco. Cancer research was not his specialty but a sad family experience led Galvez to that path. He also dwelled on other chronic diseases. “It was seeing f ...

Californian Trip Part 3 (and the final part) - San Francisco - Fri 7th Feb - Tues 11th Feb, 2014. Lots to read coming up, but I will keep it as brief as I think I can. Hard, as so much fun we had!! My last trip report was we had just been to Vegas, and we just arrived at Las Vegas airport on Fri 7th Feb. Our flight to San Francisco should have been at 13:30, but said delayed until 2pm. Not too bad, but then got delayed again. We eventually took off at 15:55. About 413 miles from Vegas - San Francisco. I have been to the San Fran airport on route in 2012, but never been. As we took off, we saw The famous Vegas Strip, so we waved goodbye. We landed at San Francisco airport at 17:25. It was raining pretty heavily, and dull. Really excited as we were meeting up with 3 friends. 2 of them would see us at our hotel - Gene and Carol Funk from Walla Walla, Washington State - United States. Then, another friend of mine who lives about 30 mins away from the city - Bill Sperry. I did not know what he looked like! He ...
Diane and I are planning on a trip to San Francisco in May and I am wondering if some of you more seasoned travelers could make some suggestions. We could drive all the way and it would be about 2,100 miles and take a long 3 days. Or we could fly to either San Francisco or Las Vegas and rent a car to do the sight seeing. Cost would be $275 for flights to Vegas or $310 to Frisco and the car rental would be about $32 a day at either. A big part of the trip would be seeing some National Parks in Arizona and Utah. Hard to figure out the miles on those sort of trips. Seems that by the time you figure in the hotels and gas it may be close to a draw in terms of cost. I don't know what the costs are for a rental car or if there are added costs if we started rental in one place and dropped it off in the other. As I can see it there's about 1,000 miles and a couple of days of just haulin *** out to say Denver or just beyond both ways. Any thoughts?
Las Vegas, San Diego, Palm Springs, Phoenix, Bakersfield, Oakland, San Francisco and Sacramento. Now I'm on my way to Portland via Greyhound. 13 more hours. maybe I should have taken a shower!
"Time" magazine just did a study to figure out the cities where people take the most SELFIES. They analyzed the cities where people posted the most selfies on Instagram in January, and divided the number of selfies by the city's population. But obviously that doesn't factor in TOURISTS. Anyway, here are the top 10 cities in the U.S. with the most selfies . . . 1. New York . . . specifically Manhattan. 2. Miami. 3. Anaheim, California . . . probably because of Disneyland. 4. San Francisco. 5. Boston. 6. Newark, New Jersey. 7. Honolulu, Hawaii. 8. Las Vegas. 9. Washington, D.C. 10. Oakland, California. Worldwide, the city with the most selfies is Makati City, in the Philippines.

Thank you Bill. I found this site from two of my friends that I grew up with in PG County, Nancy Carter Catron and Mary Elizabeth Collins. I can't wait to tell my Four Sisters about this. I was born in DC but we moved to Silver Spring shortly afterward. We lived in Hyattsville most of our childhood. I started at Gallatin St. Elementary School in 2nd grade. A few days later, we had to walk our chairs up the street in the cold snowy weather to Hyattsville Elementary School. I went to Hyattsville Elementary School from 2nd to 6th grade, then onto Hyattsville Jr. High and then to Northwestern. I only went Northwestern for 10th grade, then moved to Upper Marlboro. Still in PG County. I moved away in 1975 to El Salvador for five years then to San Francisco, CA. Been living in Las Vegas for past 7 years. I am looking forward to the P.G. County Nostalgia site. Thanks again.

A significant snowstorm and blizzard that pushed across the United States in the early days of 2014 created a ripple effect of flight delays across the country. The timing was especially problematic as the days following the start of the New Year are big for returning holiday travelers. Just days later, an ice storm in the Midwest created further travel headaches, with flights being canceled, bumped and delayed. Many of these travelers had already been bumped from the previous storm. As of 3 p.m. EST on Jan. 7, despite generally clear weather conditions across the country, the Federal Aviation Administration is listing delays at Atlanta and Fort Lauderdale airports. FlightStats shows excessive delays at most major hubs, including JFK, Newark, Denver, Detroit, Pittsburgh, O'Hare, Midway, Atlanta, Charlotte, St. Louis, Baltimore, Ronald Reagan and Washington Dulles. Significant delays are listed for Logan, Minneapolis, Houston, Austin, Tampa and Las Vegas. More than 1,000 flights have been canceled out of a ...
So we just got back from our Road Trip holiday last night. We drove from LA to San Francisco (6 hours) where we stayed a week with my family. Then SF-Sun Valley, Idaho (11 hours) where we hung out with Jen's family and other friends for a week, then SV-Las Vegas (8 hours) where we spent one night and then LV-LA (5 hours). It is amazing I am still married:-) My husband and I have such different styles of traveling. The car was filled to the rim (I am a light packer he wants to make sure he has more than he needs.) I like to stop along the way for snacks or something to eat. He hates to stop so he packs drinks and snacks that fill up the car even more (which means lots of garbage and various odors.) Then there is the issue of what to listen to on the radio. He likes Howard Stern and 70' rock, I like Broadway tunes and the Frank Sinatra station. Thank goodness the kids either sleep or watching movies with headphones on. Funny enough, we had a great time! Wondering what is the longest Road Trip your ...
Oh goody! It's CES. The one time of year when Las Vegas stops being a place San Francisco residents can fly to in order to avoid start-up *** wearing Google Glass and braying about their phones.
LITIGATION & RESOLUTION A handful of bands who participated on the 2013 PI tour, have received no dvd or perhaps have received a dvd with unacceptable video pixelation due to a faulty down converter. This problem has been isolated to the following shows. Phoenix, Las Vegas, Los Angeles, San Francisco, Portland, Salt Lake City and Denver. Following months of deliberation, DEPro has accepted responsibility for the snafu and has offered a settlement which we are expected to receive in the next couple of weeks at which time we will contact all affected bands and issue rebate checks. Once again, sincere apologies for the problem and more importantly for leaving everyone hanging, but seeing as how potential lawsuits were involved, we had to be very careful regarding what was said in public forums. Now that we have a plan for resolution in place, all those affected should expect resolve by the end of January. Questions, comments and concerns may be addressed to my attention. The 88 released Over and Over by Jermy Leeuwis, Editor on January 12, 2006 | genre: rock With their second album, Over and Over, The 88 refute the myth that art and the three-and-a-half-minute pop song can’t get along. While the new record shares the same rollicking spirit as its predecessor, Kind of Light, it also marks a sonic leap forward for the Los Angeles-based quintet. The buoyant melodies and general jollity that characterized album one infuse all 12 tracks of their sophomore release, only this time with an expanded sound, a result, no doubt, of the group’s artistic growth – and lots and lots of practice. Since Light debuted in early 2003, lead singer/guitarist Keith Slettedahl, keyboardist Adam Merrin, guitarist Brandon Jay, bassist Carlos Torres and drummer Mark Vasapolli have played practically nonstop throughout their native L.A., with tour dates in New York, San Francisco, Austin, Las Vegas, San Diego, Tucson and Washington D.C. Once word of The 88’s irrepressible harmonies and hoppin ...

Sedona's Best Fine Art Destination Gallery: Check out this Amaaazing artist! "The Woman of Paris" series... Artist: Ted CoConis Ted was awarded a scholarship to the Art Institute of Chicago during his grade school years, but instead of working toward academic success, he abandoned his formal education, added a few years to his age and trained as a pilot with the US Air Force near the end of World War II. He was honorably discharged a year later when they found out he was underage, so he joined the Merchant Marines and ended up in Russian-occupied Romania. By the time he got back, Chicago seemed pretty tame, so he headed off to Las Vegas and then Los Angeles, finally ending up in San Francisco, where he landed his first freelance commission as an illustrator. It wasn't long before a major art studio in New York recognized his talent, so he heeded the call and quickly established himself as one of this country's preeminent illustrators of books, magazines and movie posters. Ted's paintings have appeared in ...
I've liked so many of these I don't know which number to pick! I think my friend Carolyn Carolyn Pannone gave me 11, so here goes. If you "like" my status, I'll give you a number. Things about me you may not know- 1. I am practically bionic. Two new knees and a new left hip. Getting a new right hip next year. 2. I was an only child, and I loved it. Which is probably why I like being alone. 3. I've vacationed to: Puerto Rico, San Francisco, Los Angeles, Hawaii, Las Vegas, London, Paris, Rome, Madrid, Montreal, and Quebec. 4. I learned how to drive on a stick shift. 5. In Las Vegas, I went to a show and was picked to go up on the stage, where I was serenaded and kissed by Engelbert Humperdinck. 6. I love White Russians. (Sometimes a little to much). 7. I love all kinds of gadgets. 8. There are times I may not leave my house for days and that's fine with me. 9. I HATE talking on the phone and very rarely pick it up. 10. I am a terrible procrastinator. All my life. 11. I've always wanted one, s ...

So I was basically working for het then. We also drove to LA that year and went to Disneyland. SanDiego, San Francisco and in Las Vegas. Oh yeah, Rachel locked herself in the bathroom in the hotel and couldn't open it. Anyhow, it was a great year 1986! And I think that was also the year I was driving a Nissan Sentra.

“If your doctor warns you to watch your drinking, find a bar with a mirror.” — John Mooney Chimay Friday! Over this time I've found myself in such places as Long Beach, Las Vegas, San Francisco, Kansas City, Omaha, Chicago, Memphis, Nashville, Houston, Atlanta, Orlando, New York City, Lexington, and Killington on Chimay Friday and have never had a problem finding someone to serve me. Looking back on the last 10 months I realize all I've taken for granted as I get caught up in the daily grind (DJ - rat rayayace): backpacking Yosemite, Mt. Whitney, and Crater Lake; hiking the Grand Canyon, the southern Sierras, the Redwoods, and the surrounding mountains of Lake Havasu; Storm gazing during the Arizona monsoon season; traversing and experiencing much of San Francisco; multiple trips to Las Vegas; a Santa Barbara bachelor party coupled with a brother's wedding; my beautiful cousin's wedding; attending multiple UCLA games at the new Pauley Pavilion; being part of numerous great concerts with equally great company; living one block away from the Pacific Ocean; interacting with and creating personal connections with those around me; continued health of myself and loved ones; and all the while growing to where I want to be mentally. To be positively alive and part of this Universe truly is the greatest gift. Irie

Home Prices Still Surging, But Higher Interest Rates Could Slow Gains Two recent housing reports confirm what homebuyers and sellers already know: home prices have surged over the past year, especially in the Bay Area. But the bump in mortgage interest rates in recent months may be slowing those gains a bit and could lead to a more balanced market. S&P/Case-Shiller's most recent Home Price Index showed prices in the nation's 20 largest cities rose 12.1 percent over last year. The San Francisco metropolitan area had the second biggest jump in prices, surging 24.5 percent year over year. Las Vegas at 24.9 percent led all cities. Others in the top five were Los Angeles (19.9 percent), Phoenix (19.8 percent) and San Diego (19.3 percent). According to the report, which was based on June figures, prices in Dallas and Denver hit all-time highs, while San Francisco housing prices turned in the biggest rebound, rising 47% from their low in March 2009. But analysts say the gains may be slowing as interest rates mov ...

We've had no reception for the last 2 days, so that's why we've been a little quiet. After thinking we had fixed the Leanster in Las Vegas we headed off to ride through Death Valley, only to get 50 or so km for the day before having problems again.that night we made some more changes then got a motel for the night and considered all our options, including limping it to San Francisco, shipping it home and flying back not long after. Next morning we decide to head off through Death Valley and if it broke again just locking it in a rigid state just to get through... Somehow it seems be working so instead we ended up doing approx. 850km for the day, through Death Valley and across the bottom of Yosemite National Park, to make up time. Today we will cross Yosemite National Park again (another 150km), then only 350km more to go and we are back on track! Such a relief its working properly again!
The Dinwoodie's off to join youngest daughter in Vancouver tomorrow, hotels booked in Vancouver, San Francisco, Yosemite , New York and Toronto nothing as yet yet in Las Vegas, San Diego or LA should allow for some maneuvering. Harrison Drysdale's journey so far - San Francisco was Day 1 and 2 - unfortunately brand new camera stolen while at Pier 39 after Alcatraz trip - bummer. He is now in Las Vegas stayed at the Stratosphere Hotel (has roller coaster and other rides on top of building) for one night. Today he went to Hoover Dam and Grand Canyon temperature at 45degrees - crazy.
Day 10 (Monday): After breaking the shower in the motel, we set off from Saint Luis Obispo towards San Francisco. Today was much better than yesterday - the sun was out and there were amazing views all the way up the coast. We passed through Morro Bay, Hearst Castle where we encountered wild zebra on the land side and Elephant Seals on the sea side. Next we entered "The Big Sur", with stunning views around every turn, then onto Carmel by the sea for a walk along the beach. We took the "17 mile drive" through the private golfing town of Pacific Grove and then had dinner in Monterey before re-joining highway 1 for the last stretch through Santa Cruz and onto San Francisco, where we dropped off the car and Checked into the hotel. San Francisco is our base now for the next 5 nights before flying back to London via Las Vegas on Saturday. Still lots of fun to look forward to, including a tour of some wineries in the Sonoma valley, A trip to Alcatraz and a day trip to the Yosemite National Park.

The New York Mets sign right-handed reliever David Aardsma to a minor league contract and assigned him to Triple-A Las Vegas. He signed with the New York Mets after opting out of his minor league deal with the Miami Marlins. He was 1-0 with a 2.57 ERA for Triple-A New Orleans. Here's a little bit about him. -Former Seattle Mariners closer -The 31-year-old missed all of 2011 cause he had offseason hip surgery and then an elbow ligament replacement operation that July. -He signed with the Yankees before last season and made one appearance. He was cut by the Yankees on March 29 after failing to make their Opening Day roster, but signed with Miami. -A 2003 first-round pick by San Francisco, Aardsma saved a combined 69 games for the Mariners in 2009-10. Overall, Aardsma is 13-15 with 69 saves and a 4.22 ERA in 255 games. The Mets' bullpen has a 4.77 ERA, 29th in MLB. Do you guys think this was a good pick up? - Dontae

U.S. home price appreciation continued to exceed 5 percent in April May 21 2013 2:31PM Owners of Real Estate in Culver City likely saw their property values rise in April, as appreciation was strong once again. According to the Zillow Home Value Index, prices jumped 5.2 percent year-over-year in April - the sixth straight month of annual appreciation exceeding 5 percent. When compared to the previous month, home values were up 0.5 percent. The metro area with the greatest bump was Sacramento, with home prices jumping 3.4 percent on a monthly basis. Las Vegas wasn't far behind at 3 percent, followed by San Francisco at 2.8 percent. "April marks the sixth straight month of annual home value appreciation of 5 percent or above, the longest such streak since the height of the bubble in 2006," said Dr. Stan Humphries, Zillow's Chief Economist. With home prices on the rise in much of the country, many homeowners have been able to regain equity and avoid a foreclosure situation. In fact, foreclosure starts in Cal ...

By Troy Wolverton twolverton 03/07/2013 06:55:21 AM PST March 7, 2013 9:31 PM GMTUpdated: 03/07/2013 01:31:45 PM PST It used to be you had to go all the way to Las Vegas to play the slots. But soon, you may be able to gamble on your smartphone. Thanks to improvements in technology, a change in federal rules and shifting political calculations, a push to legalize online and mobile gambling is picking up steam. Three states already have moved to allow it, and Silicon Valley tech companies, including San Francisco-based social gaming giant Zynga, are rushing to cash in. "It's inevitable that this spreads pretty quickly," said Doug Walker, who studies casino gambling as a professor of economics at the College of Charleston in South Carolina. Last month, the governors of New Jersey and Nevada signed laws to legalize online gambling in their states. And earlier this year, Delaware, which legalized online gambling ...

If only I had 2000€ to do the 12 days trip from San Francisco to San Diego (including Las Vegas, Los Angeles, Death Valley, Bakersfield, etc)
Okay, so I have a partial list of the places Tom will be visiting on his Road Trip... This is not in any particular order, mind you, and there are no set dates as of yet, but this is a heads up! • San Francisco, CA • Los Angeles, CA • San Diego, CA (I’d like to travel down Route 1 in Cali to hit as many places as we can) • Muir Woods, Mill Valley, CA • Portland, OR • Seattle, WA • Crater Lake National Park, OR • Las Vegas, NV • Yellowstone National Park, WY • Grand Canyon, AZ • New Orleans, LA • Florida Keys, FL • Denver, CO • Colorado Springs, CO/Garden of the Gods If anybody has room for myself and as many as two others (one female) on their floors/couches/spare rooms, that'd be fantastic. Also, if you think you live in a particularly cool place that isn't on this list, tell me why. We might just stop in and say hi! Updates will come as things get more ironed out.

Explain something to me, Americans. Why are the major cities in America almost never a state capital? These days I was surprised when I saw on a map that the capital of Florida, for example, was nor Miami, nor Orlando, neither Tampa... but the never unheard of (to me) "Tallahassee". New York, Los Angeles, Chicago, Houston, New Orleans, Detroit, Seattle, San Francisco, Las Vegas... they're all very traditional worldwide known major cities, and none of them are capitals on their respective states. Is there any kind of pattern to chose a smaller city to host the capital, or every case has its own isolated background, and it's just all about a strange coincidence?
Have a great weekend everyone! Next weekend is our headlining show at Las Vegas Country Saloon and we can't wait to rock that stage with Death Valley High (from San Francisco) and our fellow Las Vegas bands The Solid Suns & Stickman Shadow! Come downtown, parking is EASY at the Fremont Street Experience garage, take the elevator down to the street, walk to the right a few feet and you are at the entrance to LVCS! Escalator up to the second floor and get ready to ROCK!
I heard "Is this the way to Amarillo" twice today. I thought this was strange, but I didn't realise it was the best selling song in the UK in 2005 until I looked it up just now. I get the impression that Americans enjoy singing songs about places in America. Just off the top of my head I can think of song titles that mention New York, Chicago, Alabama, California, Compton, Las Vegas, Los Angeles, Brooklyn, San Francisco, Nutbush, Beverly Hills, La Grange, Kokomo and er Graceland. The only UK place mentioned in a UK song title that I can think of is the River Tyne. Oh, and that little old town in the south east mentioned in a song by the Clash. Not sure what my point is, I was just rambling, but feel free to remind me of British places in song titles if you like.
Home Values, Sales and Housing Starts on Track for Big Growth Year By Gino Blefari President & CEO Intero Real Estate Services, Inc. The housing market kicked off 2013 with an energetic bang, with January marking the 15th consecutive month of home value gains and a positive report from Fannie Mae last week that noted housing is "on a sustained growth path," despite a potential damper on overall economic growth at the federal level. Home values were up 0.7% in January from the previous month, and up 6.2% year-over-year, according to the latest report from Zillow. It was the largest annual gain since July 2006, when home values rose 7.5% year-over-year. Zillow's home value index averaged $158,100 in January. The last time home values were this high at the national level was June 2004. The rise in values is spreading out as well. Major markets that saw the biggest annual increase in home values were Phoenix (21.9%), San Francisco (17.2%), San Jose (16.8%), Las Vegas (16.2%), and Sacramento (13.7%). And thank ...

Yes, I'm working early this morning. I have lots to do before I fly out early tomorrow morning for a very busy 3 days in Las Vegas making client calls with Pam. I look forward to all the Super Bowl TV commercials and game today. I've decided I'm rooting for Carolina. I like John Harbaugh a lot more than Jim. Yes, the Seahawks whacked San Francisco and it would be gratifying to say "we beat the Super Bowl Champs", but, looking ahead, the Seahawks have the potential of going all the way next season IF they play up to their potential.
Reno's Super Bowl odds reflect California's closeness If you’re a Baltimore Ravens booster looking for some extra line value on the Super Bowl spread or a San Francisco 49ers fan wanting to be in the company of fellow Red and Gold fanatics, Reno may be the place for you. With the California border just down the road and the Bay Area a mere 3.5 hours away, Reno Nevada sportsbooks have been a hot spot for 49ers bettors all season. And that trend has hit a frenzied peak in the postseason. A quick glance at Reno’s Super Bowl spread is a good indication of where most of the money is coming from heading toward Feb. 3. The Niners opened as 5-point favorites and have only recently come down to -4.5, while Las Vegas sportsbooks are dealing the spread as low as San Francisco -3.5 with the majority of early money on the underdog. “Because we anticipate more money on the 49ers, we look at the consensus line out there and keep it at a point or half a point higher,” Terry Cox, director of the race and sportsboo ...
Hi Everyone, We are looking for promoters to show "Legend Of Aahhh's" in South Lake Tahoe, Las Vegas, Mammoth and San Francisco. Hit me back if you are interested.
Thank-you everyone for all the love and support..here is the latest. God reassured me when I tearfully sold my large home and bought my smaller home in 2008. He said, 'Torii, why are you crying?' 'You won't need a large home, very soon, you will be traveling and will hardly be home.' I was traveling once a year lecturing around the world for Royal Caribbean but besides mini getaways to Las Vegas, I thought was that what He meant??? I shared what He said with my class. Well, it took less than three years when I started to travel once a month with 'my Bob.' Bob promised me that we won't be apart more than a few weeks. When that person lives in Wyoming, I didn't believe it. Well it is true, so far in 2013 it's San Diego (Jan), Chicago (Feb), Wyoming (March), Denver (April), San Francisco (May), Wyoming (july), Calif (August) and possibly Norway and Sweden in-between. Thank-you God, it was exactly like You said. You just didn't tell me that you were going to send me a great person, my future husband with that ...

Good Morning to all!,, I think this is a good news :) For six long years following the burst housing bubble and subsequent recession, residential condominium sales remained in a deep freeze. However, late last year, condo investment sales quietly began to recover in gateway markets such as Boston, San Francisco and New York. More recently, analysts and major investors are starting to take serious notice of the emerging condo market after several large residential and commercial developers announced new condo development projects in previously overbuilt markets such as South Florida, and bulk condo portfolios begin trading in Las Vegas and other metros where the housing market cratered so deeply in 2007. In a sign that demand is picking up, overall U.S. condominium investment sales volume and the average price paid per unit for condo projects reached their highest levels in seven years during the fourth quarter, according to an analysis of preliminary CoStar transaction data.

Your Bi-Weekly Bay Area Real Estate market update. There’s no doubt in my mind that the tide has turned. Just recently, the National Association of Realtors reported that October home sales in the U.S. were 11% higher than a year ago. This marked the seventh straight month that the nation’s housing market saw improvement year-over-year, the first time that’s happened since November 2005-May 2006. One thing I’ll explain about the U.S. housing market is that it’s a very local issue; prices and the strength of the market vary tremendously from state to state and city to city. While some cities in the U.S. suffered extremely sharp downturns in prices and sales – Las Vegas, San Diego and much of Florida come to mind – other areas were not really impacted as much. San Francisco and Silicon Valley, for example, never saw prices drop as sharply as most of the nation. And both regions have rebounded sharply in sales and prices with the biggest challenge being not enough homes for sale to meet buyer . ...

Here is a wonderful email we received in response to our Happy New Year! Turbo Charger: Thanks Larry, This is a perfect email for 12/31. I wish you a very Happy New Year and know that you will choose to make it so, as I will also. Towards that end I have joined the National Speakers Association and Jan. 3rd will fly to Las Vegas for a two day training in using humor in presentations and in late Feb. will go to San Francisco for a training in improving my public speaking focusing on content, structure, calls to action (sounds like the LDL in ways), and much more. As 2012 draws to a close one of my main lessons from this year has been to be better prepared, ready for, and able to respond fluidly to changes in plans. I have had events where I felt totally prepared and then found that the event was not as described and I was not always prepared for the level of change that would provide for what I would view as an optimum outcome. Just learning how to prepare and gain that sense of having 'hidden' resources t ...

Jed Kolko, Trulia Chief Economist Trulia's Chief Economist names Houston and San Francisco as the nation’s healthiest housing markets heading into 2013. Why? Good Morning, I am Chief Forecaster for T.R.A.P.T. and Staff Forecaster for Weather HQ on this Tuesday, December 18, 2012. We have much to talk to about this morning as we are finally getting the accuracy and forecast of the first major winter storm scenario setting up for the Western Great Lakes and Upper Midwest, so let’s get to the weather synopsis. First off, let’s talk about today’s weather. Starting out in the Pacific Northwest, we have a new Pacific storm system spreading some rain showers across coastal Washington and Oregon for today. Some of the rain showers in Oregon could mix with some wet snow flakes in Eugene and Portland, so beware of traveling in this region today. Down along the California coastline and interior west, we are seeing a lot of low level cloudiness with some isolated sprinkles likely for places like San Francisco, Los Angeles, Sacramento, Fresno, and so on. Las Vegas and Phoenix, you will be seeing some low level clouds and overcast with temperatures being below ...

Five Reasons Home Prices Have Been Rising By Nick Timiraos Home prices rose by 0.1% in September from the prior month and by 3.6% from one year ago, the largest such gain in six years, according to a report released Monday by Lender Processing Services. Compared with one year ago, prices are up by 17.7% in Phoenix, the largest gain among the nation’s 40 largest metro areas. Other cities with notable year-over-year increases include Detroit (11.7%), Las Vegas (11.5%), San Jose, Calif. (11.3%), San Francisco (10%), and Sacramento (8.3%). Among the top 40 metros, only a handful have posted year-over-year declines, led by St. Louis, which was down by 4.1%. Bridgeport, Conn., was down by 2.3%, while Chicago (-0.5%) and Cincinnati (-0.1%) also posted declines. The LPS figures serve as a good reminder that it’s still hard to generalize about housing. Some markets are up sharply amid big declines in both prices and the share of distressed sales, while others are still soft. Generally, though, there are at lea ...
Pop up alert Bloomingdales SandroSandro is opening three men’s pop-up shops inside Bloomingdale’s stores in California this week. Two are in Los Angeles — at the shopping centers Beverly Center and Westfield Century City — and one is in San Francisco on Market Street. The pop-up shops contain Sandro’s fall men’s collection for 30 to 50 percent off and its spring men’s collection at full price. While Sandro’s women’s line has a presence in Bloomingdale’s stores on the West Coast, the men’s line hasn’t been available at the retailer’s locations in the region before the pop-up shops. The pop-ups could be a precursor to Bloomingdale’s carrying Sandro’s men’s line more regularly at West Coast stores. On the women’s front, Sandro has been scouting locations for its own stores in California and is expecting to open a store in Los Angeles early next year. In addition, a women's store is slated to bow in April at The Forum Shops at Caesars Palace in Las Vegas.

Oakland police say one of the city's most wanted fugitives was arrested at a San Francisco steak house where the suspected gang leader was spotted by an off-duty officer. Authorities say 20-year-old Ronnie Flenaugh was taken into custody around 10 p.m. Thursday at Ruth's Chris Steak House, where he was eating with 11 other people. Flenaugh was spotted by Oakland police Officer Ernesto Leyva Jr., who was there celebrating his wife's birthday. He called for more officers who helped him arrest Flenaugh on robbery and weapons violations. Police say Flenaugh had been wanted for several gang-related killings and robberies. They hope his arrest will end a wave of retaliatory shootings. Hours before Flenaugh's arrest, officers had raided a Las Vegas home where they believed they would find him.
Places I want to go in the next four years: Seattle, Boston, San Francisco, Napa Valley, New Orleans, NYC, Washington DC, Orlando, somewhere in Maine on the coast, Las Vegas a couple of times (hopefully once a year) Pittsburgh and Philadelphia, someplace in Mexico and at Venice, Italy and back to London. Guess I better buy some lottery tix, huh?
Raoul Duke: Strange memories on this nervous night in Las Vegas. Has it been five years? Six? It seems like a lifetime, the kind of peak that never comes again. San Francisco in the middle sixties was a very special time and place to be a part of. But no explanation, no mix of words or music or memories can touch that sense of knowing that you were there and alive in that corner of time in the world. Whatever it meant.

Well, after repeated e-mails and letters to United Airlines' Jeff Smisek, President & CEO of UAL, I have received no response! It is quite obvious that they ave no interest in Customer satisfaction or Public Relations, so without further adieu, here is a copy of my letter to Mr. Smisek: Mr. Smisek, I will relate to you the horrific and disastrous experience I recently had regarding my trip to France. I had a reservation on September 13, 2012, to fly from Las Vegas to Toulouse, France. Flight UA6503 was scheduled to depart Las Vegas at 4:41 PM, and arrive in San Francisco at 6:14 PM. That, of course, did not happen! The flight did not leave Las Vegas until after 5:30 PM, and consequently did not arrive in San Francisco until nearly 7:00! I and several other passengers missed our flight UA926 to Frankfurt, Germany! Flight UA926 was scheduled to depart San Francisco at 7:05 PM, but left 5 minutes early, in spite of repeated calls from the people on the ground in Las Vegas, and from the Purser on our fli ...

From Podeshare in Hollywod to Four Seasons in Las Vegas: My Big California Road Trip is drawing to a close. We set off from San Francisco and spend two nights in a tent in Yosemite Narional Park with earplugs to cut out all the scary noises from whoever was lurking around, cooking my birthday dinner over open fire, hiking through some stunning sceneries with amazing waterfalls and a wild Bob Cat just in front of us and a hint of a Coyote in the night shadows by our tent. Food stored VERY properly to avoid the bears to invite themselves (sigh of relief). I had packed so much winterclothes for the high altitude nights but it was 30C during day and 17C in the night! Then off to Death Valley for a complete change of scenery with an overnight in a rundown motel, 45C hot, hot, hot but so beautiful. Up at 6 every morning for the whole trip and we have now crash landed in Las Vegas at the Four Seasons Hotel with amazing views over the strip, what a cultur shock, dozing by the pool and soon ready to hit this crazy ...

So i have met two of my idols since i moved here to Las Vegas last year. Andre Agassi and Frank Hall.

ednesday, 05 September 2012 Heading Northwest The journey on which I will embark tomorrow has been in the works for little over a year now. It has definite spiritual aspects, which have come up fairly recently: Baha'i events in San Francisco and Glenwood Springs, CO, which I will discuss with those who are interested; visits with Baha'i and other friends in Reno, the East Bay, Eugene, Portland, Neah Bay, WA, Seattle, Vancouver, Jackson, WY; stops in Las Vegas, Tonopah, Hawthorne, NV, Lake Tahoe, Santa Rosa, Eureka,CA, along the Oregon coast, Aberdeen, WA, Port Angeles, Kelowna,BC, Spokane, Moscow, ID, Boise, Idaho Falls and Rock Springs, WY, any of which might entail spending time with online friends and all of which will be memorable, regardless. The people matter more than the scenery, which will appear in all my posts, nonetheless. It's not the destination that matters, it's the process.
Reposting-I am covered in San Fran and Sacramento, but still need help in all other areas. Hey all my West Coast/Southwest Crossfitting friends. Josh Mandel appears on a Sunday Columbus news program. "Sherrod Brown is raising money in San Francisco." he laments. News moderator asks, "You (Mandel) have held fundraisers in Hawaii, LA, the Bahamas, Las Vegas." Mandel," The US Senate seat is now a national arena with national concerns beyond Ohio alone." The follow up question which did not occur should have been. Then why are you complainng about Sherrod Brown raising money in San Francisco? Another election in which we have no realisitic candidate, just another rubber stamp.
"Three's Company"'s blonde actress (?) promoted the solar bikes in a testimonial published by Solar Energy Journal] Palm Springs - I travelled from San Francisco to Las Vegas and Los Angeles and back. For movie locations, Palm Springs was featured in "American Gigolo" [crime scene involving a menage-a-trois with the character of Armani garbed Richard Gere, known to Filipinos by his movies - "An Officer and a Gentleman", "Pretty Woman", "First Knight" (Versace), "Primal Fear"...] and the final scene in "Seven" (where the character of Brad Pitt, consumed by the deadly sin of Wrath, shoots to kill the serial killer, weakened by Lust and Envy.) "Tour of Luzon" with Solar Bikes?!? I say, why not!
I am so excited, I collect thimbles and I have several from my daughter Sierra's trip to Europe including a blown glass and wooden one. Also from Canada when they went there for the Star Trek convention. Then there are several from the few states I've been in and some like San Francisco and Las Vegas that my girls have brought me. Well, my sister is going to bring me a Disneyland one from there trip next month to go with my Paris Disneyland one and Elisa Cabrales is going to send me one from Texas, Louisiana and New York, which I of course will pay her for. A hospital volunteer promised to use the money I'm going to give her to pick up one in Utah for me next month also. My collection is growing by leaps and bounds and as I said, I'm so excited. When I have a nice Display Case I'll take a picture so you all can see my pretties. Thanks for letting me share my excitement.

As some may remember I was flying Ira and her Daughter (which I treat as my daughter) down from Vancouver BC I showed them the whole city of Las Vegas from the Strip to the Dam to Red Rocks to entertainment on the strip. It's been difficult enough for California to build a bullet train between San Francisco and Los Angeles. But a Nevada-based group is looking create an extension off that long-in-the-works system that would stretch the Golden State's rail network all the way to Las Vegas.
Brilliance from my friend John M. Kawano, who writes the following in response to a Las Vegas Journal columnist who had a bad experience at Dodgers Stadium: Ahh, Mr. Coolican of the "Las Vegas Sun" speaks again. Ruminating on the subject of where Las Vegas should put a stadium (should one be built), he relates how he decided to visit Los Angeles and take in a Dodger game. For some reason he and his friend decide to stay in a downtown hotel and walk to the game. They then set out on the walk (three miles) and Mr. Coolican notes, unhappily, that there is no place to eat/drink on the way. Also, Dodger Stadium, he notes unhappily, is located uphill- I guess he believes that all baseball stadiums should be located in valleys. Naturally, he mentions with approval that stadiums in older cities such as San Francisco and Chicago are "ensconced in a neighborhood full of sports bars and apartment dwellers". This makes me pause. Aren't progressives like J. Patrick enamored with "diversity"? The idea that there's more ...

Former Raider Ben Davidson dies at 72 ALAMEDA, Calif. (AP) — Ben Davidson, the hulking defensive end who starred for the Oakland Raiders in the 1960s before becoming a famous television pitch man, has died. He was 72. Davidson died Monday night. He was being treated for prostate cancer. Former Raiders coach John Madden first reported Davidson's death Tuesday on KCBS radio in San Francisco. Davidson spent 11 years in pro football, starting with the Green Bay Packers and Washington Redskins in the NFL before joining the Raiders in the AFL in 1964. That's where the 6-foot-8 Davidson became famous. With his distinctive handlebar mustache, raspy voice and physical play, Davidson helped personify Al Davis' renegade Raiders on the 1960s. "He was a tough, gutsy ballplayer, team oriented with enough meanness in him to be feared and enough talent to be effective," former Raiders teammate Tom Flores said. Flores, who recently played golf with Davidson, got the news while in Las Vegas for a celebration of Davis, wh ...
I have had the most amazing few days with my sister Anna from Australia. She is traveling from coast to coast in the US and was able to stop by. We went to Oatman and then to The London Bridge in Lake Havasu City. We crossed the lake on the ferry to the casino on the other side. We had so much fun. She started out in New York then Chicago and drove Route 66 to Kingman. Now she is off to Las Vegas then San Francisco and finishing in Los Angeles. What an adventure! I was able to learn so much about our dad and my Aussie family. So on my bucket list is go to Australia and meet the rest of my brothers, sisters and step-mom. Thank you Anna! You are the best!! XOXOXOXO
I left Florida in the middle of tropical storm Debby.  I had a stopover in Las Vegas on my trip to San Francisco.  It was so cool I got to fly over the Grand Canyon, and I got to see Hoover Dam from the air. Sadly, I did not have my camera ready so I missed the moment. However, I do have pictures of...

Its well worth a visit. the helicoptor flight to the Grand Canyon was amazing, then we drove through Nevada desert to San Francisco, visited Alcatraz, Golden Gate Bridge, before taking Highway 1 to Los Angeles. Scenery was stunning, and def worth visit back. Finally we landed in Los Angeles, did the touristy bit and went to Hollywood - been there, done it, wouldn.t go back. Some real cool beaches, Malibut, Manhatten Beach and the Huntington where the Nike World Champs were on.
Back home from Santa Clara and the SETI Conference and then July 3 it is Amtrak Bus to South Lake Tahoe for 4 th of July! I wonder if Amtrak has frequent traveler rewards I will have to find out. In 2012 I have taken Amtrak twice to Las Vegas, once to San Francisco and once to Santa Clara. Last year it was 3 times to San Francisco, 2 times to Reno and 1 time to South Lake Tahoe.
Zappos left San Francisco way back in 2004, and since then it has become closely associated with its new home in Nevada — in fact, CEO Tony Hsieh is working to revitalize downtown Las Vegas, in part by turning it into a startup hub. At the same time, the Amazon-owned online retailer hasn’t entirely severed its connection to the Bay Area — in 2010, it reopened an office in SF, one that’s focused on experimenting with cool new ideas. The role of the 11-person SF team is getting a little more official today, with its renaming from Zappos San Francisco to Zappos Labs. To be clear, that’s basically the role that the team was filling already, releasing products like a fashion magazine-style iPad app. And it was even called Zappos Labs unofficially. Nonetheless, Will Young, who directs the local team, says the official change should make its mission of “disrupting online retail a lot more explicit.” He says that a lot of Zappos’ success is due to ideas that seemed innovative at the time, like fre ...

Man I totally have Hawaii on the brain. I'll be taking a trip to Maui in 10 1/2 months, with my wife and family but thats a way long time. I have become a total travel hound. various trips to California, Cincinatti, Kentucky, Louisana, the cruise to Jamacia, Grand Cayman Islands, and Cozemel, Mexico, Las Vegas, San Francisco for my honeymoon. Thats all happened within the last 16 months. But call me greedy and spoiled, I need this trip badly.
94 years ago today was born Willis Marie van Schaack in Minneapolis and raised by her grandparents. Most people remember her as Lili St. Cyr, burlesque star and actor. The story is supposed to go that some agent/choreographer/director spots a talented young woman in a chorus line but that never happened to her. She had to beg the manager of her club to allow her to do a solo act. He refused but eventually she ended up at a club called The Music Box in San Francisco performing in a group called the Duncan Sisters. It was here that she discovered a dancer's salary was only a fraction of the headliners pay. The difference was the headliner performed nude. It was then that she changed her name and came up with an act of her own. The first performances were reputedly not very good but Ivan Fehnova, who ran the production at the Music Box thought her looks were too exceptional to fire her and helped put together a new act and booked her in Las Vegas doing stripteases. She then traveled throughout North America, ...
