San Francisco 49ers' Jim Harbaugh is one of four coaches to leave on 'Black Monday'
THREE Head CoachES, TWO GM'S FIRED ON NFL'S BLACK MONDAY: The ax has fallen on three NFL Head Coaches and two general managers whose underachieving teams disappointed fans and the owners who pay their big salaries. Getting their “Black Monday” pink slips were Head Coaches Rex Ryan of the New York Jets, Mike Smith of the Falcons and Marc Trestman of the Chicago Bears, and GM’s John Idzik of the Jets and Phil Emery of the Bears. Also falling victim to the revolving door of coaches was Jim Harbaugh, who agreed to part ways with the San Francisco 49ers in a departure that was long expected. “Black Monday” comes the day after the regular season has ended and is the day when coaches are traditionally relieved of their duties and their former teams promise a fresh start in the pursuit of Super Bowl glory. The end for Ryan and Idzik came after one of the most disappointing Jets seasons in franchise history. With the Jets (4-12) failing to make the postseason for the fourth straight season, Team owner W ...

Coach: Kaepernick has another gear espn.com news services | May 29, 2014 Colin Kaepernick already has a fairly stout NFL resume. San Francisco 49ers tight end Vernon Davis is not attending the team's OTAs, a source confirmed to espn.com. Davis, who has two years left on the six-year, $42.7 million contract he signed in 2010, has been absent as he's seeking a new deal, according to a report by CSNBayArea.com. He is forfeiting a $200,000 workout bonus by not showing up. When asked about Davis' absence, Coach Jim Harbaugh told the media that workouts were voluntary. Davis was drafted sixth overall by the 49ers in 2006. He was a Pro Bowl selection last season after making 84 catches for 850 yards and 13 touchdowns. The 49ers' ability to re-sign or restructure Davis' deal could be hindered by their need to re-sign quarterback Colin Kaepernick and wide receiver Michael Crabtree, whose contracts are up at the end of the 2014 season.

Dennis ODonnell--Why Jonathan Martin? The 49ers signed Jonathan Martin because it makes sense. The trade costs the 49ers essentially nothing because it's a conditional 7th round pick. He won't be a starter in San Francisco, but any o-line coach can tell you, you can't have enough depth. If Martin can block, he stays. It's that simple. You know what he's been doing while Richie has gone Incognito? Martin has been taking classes at Stanford, where he played football under Jim Harbaugh, realizing that he'll need a profession after football. I love this move because the NFL investigation showed a pattern bullying in the Dolphins locker room. I love it because the bully is paying the price and doesn't have a job. I only hope the damage he and his cronies caused Jonathan Martin isn't long term. Most of all, I love the trade because it sends a message to the would-be bullys all over the world: Stand down. Way to go Harbaugh.

Per multiple league sources, the Cleveland Browns nearly pulled off a trade with the 49ers for the rights to Coach Jim Harbaugh. A deal that would have sent multiple draft picks to San Francisco was in place between the teams. But Harbaugh ultimately decided not to leave the 49ers. 49ERS 23 Green Bay 20 Is anyone not looking forward to this game? For that matter, is anyone more excited than Frank Gore? If you've watched the Packers' defense this season, you know it can be run on ... a lot. Green Bay allowed 125 rushing yards per game at 4.63 yards per carry. There is no reason to think Jim Harbaugh and his Niners staff won't use their full stable of backs to pound the Packers' front seven into submission. It's too bad Bruce Miller is hurt. It's not too bad that Colin Kaepernick is playing. So maybe Kaepernick won't put up 181 rushing yards like he did against the Packers in the playoffs last season; he can still certainly run for 50. Utilizing Kaepernick on zone-read plays and option runs will make Green Bay play 11-on-11, not 11-on-10, as the Pack would be able to do if it were Shaun Hill, Jim Druckenmiller or Steve Bono lining up under center for San Francisco. What We Learned from the NFL's 2013 Regular Season 8. The NFC West Is the Best Division in Football It was just a few short years ago (2010) that the Seattle Seahawks won the NFC West with a record of 7-9, prompting pundits to (correctly) call it the worst division in the history of football. Fast-forward just three years later, and there is no doubt that the NFC West is the best division in football. It's been a stunning turnaround. How did it happen? First, Seahawks coach Pete Carroll and general manager John Schneider have done an exemplary job of roster-building in the salary-cap era. The depth on their roster is unprecedented, and the unearthing of diamond-in-the-rough quarterback Russell Wilson in the third round of the 2012 draft was nothing short of a franchise-altering event. Seattle went 13-3 this season and claimed home-field advantage throughout the NFC playoffs. Second, the San Francisco 49ers hired Coach Jim Harbaugh, who immediately fashioned the team into a Super Bowl contender. They reach ...
It is not running your team down to want your team to be the best. The Dallas Cowboys have the talent in place in a lot of positions. It angers me as a fan, because of that. Just look over at the San Francisco 49ers, Jim Harbaugh in one year as Head Coach had them knocking on the door of a Superbowl, the next year they were in it and *** this year they could win it, very impressive. Especially when you consider, we have a much better receiving core, where was Terrance Williams down the stretch? Where was Demarco Murray for god sakes!!! 59 yards rushed when your main qb is out is unacceptable. This coaching staff is in love with the pass, opposing defensive coordinators know this and plan for that. Run the football down their throat, force them to bring everyone up to stop the run, then pull out the play action to Dez or Terrance Williams...smarter play-calling could have won this game.

San Francisco 49ers Coach Jim Harbaugh reacts to rumors that the University of Texas is interested in him.
Jim Harbaugh is always good for a soundbite or two. This time the San Francisco 49ers coach responds to the University of Texas rumors by evoking his favorite daytime judge: Judge Judy!
TOP TEN Head Coach CANDIDATE FOR THE UNIVERSITY OF TEXAS 1. Mike Tomlin, Pittsburgh Steelers: A leader of men and a molder of young men is the best way to describe this dude. Disciplined and his take no excuses make no excuses style is just the thing this beleaguered program needs. 2. Jim Harbaugh, San Francisco 49ers: There is something about Jim Harbaugh that just screams college football. Like Tomlin he heads up one of the signature franchises not just in the NFL but in pro sports period. It’s going to take something extra special to pull him away….but then too, Texas falls into the extra special category. 3. Kirby Smart, Alabama: Since Nick Saban signed his extension getting him might be out of the question. So if you can’t get the real thing go with the next best thing as Kirby is Nick Saban-Lite. His tough, defensive bust ‘em in the mouth approach would be much appreciated on 6th Street. Some say he is the next great Alabama coach in waiting…why keep waiting Kirby…come to Austin ...
Ohh ohh Coach Harbaugh 4-0 when wearing his old cleats on game day ! Motivation ? Or Superstition ? Jim Harbaugh has found a new way to push his beloved San Francisco 49ers on to victory. Like the many Bud Light commercials currently making the rounds, “It’s only weird if it doesn’t work.” In London against the Jacksonville Jaguars, Harbaugh decided to wear cleats, partially as a joke after running on the field in an attempt to break up an altercation the previous week against the Tennessee Titans. After two weeks of his standard Jim Harbaugh Collection shoes, the 49ers’ Head Coach figured he had nothing to lose by switching back to his cleats. After three straight wins — and a 4-0 record overall, including a vital 19-17 victory Sunday over the Seattle Seahawks in his old gridiron kicks — the cleats just may be here to stay. Said Harbaugh of his new-found habit: “We’ve won every time I’ve worn the cleats. There was a time I was superstitious about not being superstitious. Now I’m sud ...
Just some facts about the 49ers/Seahawks, the NFC west and home-field advantage. With the win, 49ers head Coach Jim Harbaugh improved to 4-2 against the Seahawks and is now 8-3 in the month of December. San Francisco continued its home dominance in the division. The 49ers are 14-0-1 against NFC West opponents at Candlestick Park since 2009, giving the team the second-best winning percentage against divisional opponents at home during that span.
San Francisco 49ers head Coach Jim Harbaugh made an unusual change to his game-day attire earlier this season when he started wearing cleats during games. It turns out there is a perfectly logical ...
The Miami Dolphins are signing safety Michael Thomas off of the San Francisco 49ers' practice squad today, according to a source. Thomas is a 5-foot-11, 196-pounder from Stanford. He played for 49ers Coach Jim Harbaugh at Stanford. Signed as an undrafted free agent, Thomas spent last year on the 49ers' practice squad before being signed to a reserve-future deal in the offseason and then spending this season on their practice squad again. - National Football Post
San Francisco 49ers Coach Jim Harbaugh paid tribute to the late Al Davis during his Monday press conference. Harbaugh quoted Davis when asked about the 49ers playoff hopes. “Where we’re at we’ve got to win football games,” Harbaugh said. “Al Davis said it as well as can ever be said, ‘just win,’ and...
2 Interesting stats about the question "should Seattle have conserved time and let 49ers score quick TD with 2:30 remaining and no timeouts left?" FIRST, traditional way, Seattle gets the ball back with 20 to 30 seconds left (Seattle got it at 21 seconds after a kickoff return by Golden Tate). Using the pro football reference drive finder, there have been 31 drives that have started inside a team’s 30 yard line, with 20 to 30 seconds left, needing a field goal to tie or win. Teams have scored twice. Once on a hail mary (Tim Couch vs. the Saints) and once on a made field goal. That equates out to 6.5% of the time in the last 15 years. SECOND, teams that start a drive inside their own 30 with between 2:20 and 2:30 remaining in the game, needing a touchdown to tie or win. That has happened 23 times, and teams have scored a touchdown 9 times (39.1%). San Francisco would have gone for two, and might have been up 5, or 7. Obviously, in the latter scenario, the touchdown only ties. Looking at this, though, tha ...

Open Yahoo News Open SearchCancel NFL fines 49ers LB Brooks $15,570 for hit on Brees .Associated Press By JANIE McCAULEY 9 hours agoSanta Clara, Calif. (AP) — San Francisco 49ers linebacker Ahmad Brooks was fined $15,570 by the NFL on Wednesday for his hit on Saints quarterback Drew Brees last Sunday.Brooks' agent, Greg Williams, said his client would appeal the penalty — the standard fine for such hits to the head and neck area.Brooks leveled Brees, forcing a lost fumble. But the personal foul penalty kept the ball in the Saints' possession, and they soon kicked two late field goals to win 23-20. The tackle left Brees with blood on his chin.Brooks vehemently argued against the penalty, saying he didn't use his hands or helmet and called it a "bear hug." Brees labeled the hit a clothesline tackle. 49ers Coach Jim Harbaugh also reiterated Monday he thought the hit was clean."Our interpretation was, when we grade a player, if he's got a penalty we give him a minus, but we did not assign a minus on that ...
F.N.N. News Alert: Amhad Brooks fined $15, 575 for hit on Drew Brees... By Alex Kay Nov. 20, 2013 San Francisco 49ers linebacker Ahmad Brooks has reportedly been fined $15,750 for his controversial hit on New Orleans Saints quarterback Drew Brees during a Week 11 showdown between the two teams. ESPN’s Adam Schefter revealed the news on Wednesday afternoon: Brooks' fine brings with it another storyline as well, as former Baltimore Ravens star linebacker and current ESPN analyst Ray Lewis has offered to absorb half of the financial penalty. As per Larry Brown Sports, the future Hall of Fame linebacker was not only embarrassed that the referees decided to penalize Brooks for a hit he felt was legal, but also furious that the league office would likely fine him on top of that. He discussed the matter on ESPN's Monday Night Countdown prior to the game between the New England Patriots and Carolina Panthers: This is the most embarrassing call in the National Football League since the Tuck Rule and Tom Brady. San Francisco 49ers: 5 Reasons Greg Roman Should Be on the Hot Seat No. 1: Let Colin Kaepernick Be Colin Kaepernick The San Francisco 49ers have the worst passing offense in the league. They average only 168 yards-per-game, the lowest in the league. Their completion rate of 56.3 percent ranks 30th out of 32 teams. Stats are courtesy of NFL.com. Greg Roman and Jim Harbaugh are to blame for this. Since Harbaugh is not likely to be fired any time soon, it's Roman's butt on the hot seat. Colin Kaepernick has regressed this season, and the main reason is because Roman and Harbaugh are so afraid of him getting hurt that they have taken away what he does best. Kaepernick's biggest asset as a quarterback is his legs and his running ability; however, Roman and Harbaugh have drilled it into his head to stay in the pocket and avoid running unless there is no other alternative. In reality, Kaepernick has just as much of a chance of getting hurt standing in the pocket as he does on the run. Defensive linemen know wher ...
I have a question that might get answered. We all know there is bad blood and history between Pete Carroll and Jim Harbaugh. Continued.. Therefore, and with that being said, I can give credit when and where that it's due without me being all biased and making excuses about their players, but I am just simply stating the facts, the truth is that the past success of quarterbacks under the San Francisco 49ers' Head Coach Jim Harbaugh gives his quarterback Colin Kaepernick the edge as well over the Seattle Seahawks' quarterback Russell Wilson. The 49ers' head Coach Jim Harbaugh has proven himself to be a solid mentor and teacher of quarterbacks, because of the fact that he used to be an American ex-former NFL Professional Football Quarterback back during his time when he was a professional football player in general with the years of experience that when he was a quarterback, and the fact that Jim Harbaugh is more offensive minded than the 49ers' ex-former old coach that Mike Singletary was, because Mike Singletary was a defensive-minded guy in general, meaning that in as to which in general that he had that defensive kind, style, ...

Coming into Week 3, head Coach Jim Harbaugh had never suffered back-to-back defeats since taking over the San Francisco 49ers in 2011. Unfortunately for Harbaugh, his impressive streak came to an end on Sunday against the Indianapolis Colts. In surprising fashion, offensive coordinator Pep Hamilton’s offense and defensive coordinator Greg Manusky’s defense beat the 49ers at their own game. The Colts’ ground game cranked out 179 rushing yards on 39 carries while securing nine first downs. Additionally, the Colts offense possessed the ball for 36 minutes and 25 seconds whereas the Niners were on offense for 23:35. Ahead of Sunday’s game, few believed Indianapolis would lean heavily on its rushing attack to take down the reigning NFC West champs. Pundits have grown to trust quarterback Andrew Luck and Hamilton’s aerial assault, but they hadn’t seen enough prior to today to believe in Ahmad Bradshaw and Co. Despite trading for first-round running back Trent Richardson this past Wednesday, the Colt ...
-- The price for hitting an NFL quarterback late is $15,000. That's what Green Bay Packers outside linebacker Clay Matthews found out Friday. In the second quarter of the Packers' Week 1 matchup with the San Francisco 49ers, Colin Kaepernick scrambled and stepped out of bounds when Matthews leaped at him at a fully horizontal angle and tackled him after the whistle. The technical reason that Matthews was fined, according to an NFL spokesperson, was for "striking an opponent late." Matthews was not fined for anything that went on in the post-play scuffle. Matthews and 49ers offensive tackle Joe Staley fought briefly, with Staley being flagged for unsportsmanlike conduct. San Francisco Coach Jim Harbaugh thought Matthews threw "two punches to Joe's head; well, one punch and one open slap." Harbaugh criticized Matthews that both shots weren't punches. "If you're going to go to the face, come with some knuckles, not an open slap," Harbaugh told reporters Monday in San Francisco. "That young man (Matthews) wor ...
49ers head Coach Jim Harbaugh wasn't happy with Packers Clay Matthews late out of bounds hit on his QB Colin Kaepernick on Sunday. "That certainly was a cheap shot," the San Francisco 49ers coach told reporters Monday. "Launching, clotheslining to the neck/head area. That was a bad play." Matthews response in typical fashion, "I'm an awesome player, I'm not a dirty player." Should Matthews have been hit with a big fine?

Elliot Harrison tops the Power Rankings with a pair of NFC West squads for the second time in a row. But who's No. 1: Marshawn Lynch's Seattle Seahawks or Aldon Smith's San Francisco 49ers?
San Francisco's receiving situation: The San Francisco 49ers have to sort out their receiving corps. They concluded precamp preparations with questions about how to fill in until Michael Crabtree recovers from a torn Achilles tendon. In minicamp, Jim Harbaugh had Anquan Boldin playing out of position at flanker. To fix that, the 49ers are thinking about using tight end Vernon Davis as a wide receiver. Mario Manningham might have to start camp on the physically unable to perform list, so young receivers A.J. Jenkins and Quinton Patton have to develop quickly. -Ryan
To understand how intense the rivalry between the 49ers and Seahawks has become, all you have to know is what San Francisco head Coach Jim Harbaugh said in response to a question about five Seattle players who have been suspended for using banned substances since 2011. Along with saying he "definitely noticed" what had been happening with the Seahawks, Harbaugh added that "you always want to be above reproach, especially when you're good, because you don't want people to come back and say, 'They're winning because they're cheating.'" Those comments rankled the Seahawks; cornerback Brandon Browner told a local radio station that if Harbaugh were lining up against him after making such a statement, "I'd put my hands around his neck." But they were only more fodder in what has suddenly become the NFL's best rivalry. "I don't like using the word 'hate,' but it's definitely like a heavyweight fight when we play each other," 49ers Pro Bowl linebacker Patrick Willis said. "We're not throwing little jabs that bar ...

Read the last 2 lines! San Francisco 49ers Picks: FS Eric Reid, DE Cornellius Carradine, TE Vance McDonald, OLB Corey Lemonier, WR Quinton Patton, RB Marcus Lattimore, DE Quinton Dial, OLB Nick Moody, QB B.J. Daniels, OT Carter Bykowski, DB Marcus Cooper. Analysis: The 49ers came into this draft with four pretty obvious needs: Safety, defensive end/line, second tight end and the eventual replacement for Frank Gore. Check, check, check and check. Sure, Reid, Carradine, McDonald and Lattimore might not all hit in the long run, but the 49ers got four strong candidates. The 49ers showed aggression by trading up for Reid, a guy who Coach Jim Harbaugh tried to recruit to Stanford, and still got Carradine, a guy who some people thought San Francisco was going to take in the first round. Lattimore is the truly intriguing prospect as he tries to come back from a horrific knee injury. If he returns to form, the 49ers might have nabbed the best back in the draft. Grade: A+

CBS San Francisco is showing an ad for Judge Judy that is nothing but Jim Harbaugh praising her. No, I’m not kidding.
49ers Breakdown: By John Breech Team overview: If you don't count the first two quarters of Super Bowl XLVII or David Akers' entire season, the 49ers were almost perfect in 2012. The defense finished the season ranked third in the NFL and the offense wasn't too shabby either, ranking 11th overall -- but lets talk more about the defense. The 49ers defense had four All-Pro players, including linebackers NaVorro Bowman -- who finished second in the league in tackles -- and Aldon Smith, whose 19.5 sacks in 2012 trailed only J.J. Watts' 20.5. Offensively, Coach Jim Harbaugh's decision to start Colin Kaepernick is the gift that keeps on giving for San Francisco. First, it paid off when Kaepernick led the 49ers to the Super Bowl. Then it paid off again when the 49ers were able to send backup Alex Smith to the Chiefs for a 2013 second-round draft pick and a conditional 2014 pick. The trade will free up $9.75 million in cap space for the 49ers. Except for taking receiver A.J. Jenkins in the first round of the 2012 ...
The thought of New York Jets star cornerback Darrelle Revis playing for the San Francisco 49ers next season is just frightening. Well, it's frightening for 31 other NFL franchises, at least. For Revis, the thought is exciting, as he told Michael Robinson on "The Real Rob Report" on Monday (via Manish Mehta of the New York Daily News): “You got to tip your hat off to them to what they did last this past year,” Revis said of the 49ers. “This is a team with a great coach—(Jim) Harbaugh—and great players on their team. They did it without me last year. So, for me, looking at their roster and their team, I would just be an addition to help them win that trophy. Would it be awesome? I mean, yeah.” “My main goal as a player—and I think all of us as players in the NFL—is to hold that Lombardi Trophy up in the air and wear that ring,” Revis added. “They are definitely a contender and they will be a contender for the next couple years… That’s a great conference… and we’ll see. Elliot Harrison of NFL.com on the Alex Smith trade Kansas City's paying way too steep a price I think the Chiefs are making a mistake. The price is too high (especially if the conditional pick ends up being another second-rounder, as some initial reports have stated). We have a catalogue on Alex Smith, and it's not impressive. Sure, he had a nice completion percentage (70.2) in 2012. You'll hear that stat touted, as well as his 104.1 passer rating last season. He did well with Jim Harbaugh in San Francisco. Nonetheless, Smith's career numbers are far less gaudy -- as in, not gaudy at all. He's a career sub-60 percent passer who, even with last season's 100-plus figure, owns a career passer rating south of 80. His best years (by far) came under Harbaugh. But guess who won't be going to Kansas City with him? When the Chicago Bears sent two picks (third rounders) to the Miami Dolphins for Brandon Marshall, it made sense, not only because the Bears needed him, but also because of the catalogue we had on Marsh ...

According to the Santa Rosa Press Democrat, Netter was arrested Wednesday, and cited for having a blood alcohol content above .08. “The 49ers are aware of the recent matter involving Al Netter,” the 49ers said in a statement. “We take these issues very seriously, but will reserve comment at this time as this is an ongoing legal matter. The organization will continue to gather the facts and monitor the developments closely.” Netter better hope he doesn’t end up in front of Judge Judy, or Jim Harbaugh.
Alex Smith reportedly on Arizona Cardinals' radar By Chris Wesseling Published: February 21, 2013 at 10:09 AM Modified: February 21, 2013 at 3:50 PM San Francisco 49ers general manager Trent Baalke acknowledged Thursday at the NFL Scouting Combine that Alex Smith likely will be shopped this offseason. The Arizona Cardinals are emerging as one team interested in acquiring the 49ers' backup quarterback. According to The Arizona Republic, there are decision-makers within the Cardinals' organization who are high on Smith. While Smith could "make a beeline to Arizona" if released, Republic beat writer Kent Somers doubts the Cardinals will actively pursue a trade. Perhaps the Kevin Kolb debacle left a bad taste in the organization's mouth. If the Cardinals do end up parlaying that interest into a trade offer, would the 49ers be willing to deal Smith to an NFC West rival? Assuming Cardinals general manager Steve Keim makes the best offer, there shouldn't be a hangup. Niners Coach Jim Harbaugh and offensive coord ...
A.J. Jenkins Looks to Expand Role Posted Feb 11, 2013 Taylor Price 49ers.comGoal Posts Blog It was a “humbling” rookie season for San Francisco 49ers first-round draft pick A.J. Jenkins, but also an experience he won’t soon forget. Jenkins was active for four regular season games and one playoff game in 2012, yet he made no receptions for the NFC Champions. Because of his unique rookie experience, the 6-foot, 192-pound wide receiver doesn’t plan on treating his first professional offseason as time off. Instead, Jenkins wants to work out in the Bay Area, catch passes from his quarterback and earn a greater role on the 49ers offense. “It’s not really an offseason for me,” said Jenkins, the No. 30 overall pick in the 2012 NFL Draft out of Illinois. “I’m going to use all this free time I have to try and get an edge.” It sounds like the young wideout has been closely listening to the words of his coach, Jim Harbaugh. Toby Gerhart's final touch in 2009's Big Game resembled a bowling ball obliterating teetering pins, a 29-yard haul that put Stanford on the verge of stealing a massive contest late. Frank Gore's last carry in Sunday's Super Bowl XLVII turned into a rumbling 33-yard dash that put his San Francisco 49ers team on the brink of the title-winning touchdown. The parallels are uncanny. In both situations, head Coach Jim Harbaugh never turned to his stud running back thereafter, suddenly shunning his team's massive physical advantage and relying instead on a first-year starting quarterback to daintily finish the job. In 2009, it was clear that California would not have stopped Gerhart, but redshirt freshman Andrew Luck threw two horribly designed passes instead, the last of of which was intercepted to seal the game. Golden Bears 34, Cardinal 28. History repeated itself in 2013 on a bigger stage. After a slow start, the 49ers were gashing the Ravens to the tune of eight yards per carry in the second half. Defensive ...
Despite what San Francisco 49ers head Coach Jim Harbaugh may believe, the referees were correct in not penalizing Jimmy Smith for holding in Super Bowl XLVII.
I am placing this on record. Stephen A. Smith and Skip Bayless are picking the San Francisco 49ers to win next years Superbowl. I will be SURE to BLAST them when this does not happen. No way will the 49ers win or even go to the Superbowl next year. Jim Harbaugh has created BAD, BAD karma for his team. You will see. Just watch.
Niners Have Better Chance Than Ravens To Be Back by THE Associated Press February 05, 2013 New Orleans (AP) — The Baltimore Ravens carried off the Lombardi Trophy. Their beaten opponent has a better chance of doing it next season. San Francisco running back Frank Gore insisted the 49ers were the more talented team even after losing 34-31 to the Ravens in Sunday's Super Bowl. The scoreboard said otherwise, but when the conference champions meet at the Meadowlands next February — yes, outdoors in the dead of winter for the NFL crown — the Niners easily could represent the NFC. Again. "I'd say we've got a great group of guys in the locker room, great warriors," Gore said, "and I'm not going to promise anything next year, but we're going to fight to get back here." The toughest fight might be in their own division with Seattle and rapidly improving St. Louis. The Seahawks were the only team to allow fewer points than the 49ers, and their rivalry — including the semi-feud between coaches Jim Harbaugh a ...
Dallas Cowboys coach Jason Garrett is as conservative as a blue blazer, gray slacks and black wing tips. It's time for a change. Garrett should try wearing Robert Graham shirt -- the more colorful the cuffs, the better --- and a pair of designer jeans from a consignment shop in the Bishop Arts district. For Garrett to keep his job as coach of the Dallas Cowboys for more than one more season, he must leave his comfort zone and the conservative approach he's used with the Cowboys and be bold next season. Understand, this ain't about trick plays. Or going for it on fourth down. It's about a mindset that shows his team winning is all that matters. Garrett must have the self-confidence and courage to make a bold move when the opportunity presents itself. That's the only way Garrett can remove this once-proud franchise from the muck of mediocrity. Garrett can look to each Super Bowl team for example. San Francisco Coach Jim Harbaugh benched Alex Smith, then the NFL's top-rated passer, for Colin Kaepernick, who ...
San Francisco 49ers Coach Jim Harbaugh criticized the officials for what he believed was a pivotal non-call in the final minutes of his team's Super Bowl loss to the Baltimore Ravens.
Jim Harbaugh is a terrific coach: passionate, intuitive, and detail-oriented. But that final offensive series was horrific and I believe his intensity led to his team being very tight to start the game: 1st play from scrimmage, illegal formation negates 20 yard reception to Davis; 3rd and 9 at SF 18, Ahmad Brooks, offsides negates incomplete pass...next play, TD Ravens. All byproducts of being wound too tightly. The delay allowed the 49ers to exhale, but before that...they were wired the wrong way, and that one is on the Head Coach. I still believe with every football fiber in my body, San Francisco is the better team, but as we know, that means nothing. Congrats to the Baltimore Ravens, punctuating a riveting playoff run. Great, great football season...
Fact of the Day: San Francisco 49ers head Coach Jim Harbaugh went to college with and played alongside former professional wrestler Brian Pillman as a defensive back at the University of Miami.

San Francisco 49ers Head Coach Jim Harbaugh is in New Orleans now, busily preparing his team to face the Baltimore Ravens in the Super Bowl, the National Football League’s 47th annual championship game, on Sunday, Feb. 3.
San Francisco 49ers cornerback Chris Culliver apologized Thursday for anti *** comments he made to comedian Artie Lange during Super Bowl media day, saying "that's not what I feel in my heart." "I'm sorry if I offended anyone. They were very ugly comments," Culliver said during an hour-long media session. "Hopefully I learn and grow from this experience and this situation." A league official told ESPN NFL Insider Ed Werder that Culliver is unlikely to face discipline because of his inappropriate remarks. Culliver on Thursday said he would welcome a *** teammate to the 49ers, a reversal of his remarks to Lange two days earlier during an interview at the Superdome. "I treat everyone equal," Culliver said. "That's not how I feel." He added that he realized his comments were especially offensive to many people in San Francisco and the Bay Area, which is home to a large *** community. "I love San Francisco," Culliver said. 49ers CEO Jed York told reporters that he met with Culliver regarding his comments. "All ...

Things I think and know: 2012 NFL Season in review and beyond Featuring Super Bowl XLVII By: Eddie Chozet Jr This Sunday down in New Orleans will officially mark the end of another NFL season. As the two remaining teams will square off in probably the most intriguing and unique Super Bowl match-up ever, brother against brother. Head Coaches, John and Jim Harbaugh, will meet for the second time in two seasons, which John’s Baltimore Ravens team came out with a win over Jim’s San Francisco 49ers, 16-6 on Thanksgiving night in 2011. Only this time, it will be for the ultimate prize in football, the Vince Lombardi Trophy. Before going into the Super Bowl, lets take a look back on 2012 for every NFL team and what their future holds. AFC AFC East Buffalo Bills- Another disappointing season for the Bills, going 6-10 for the second consecutive season. Marking their ninth straight losing season. Santa Clara, Calif. -- Jed York's October 2010 proclamation might have been made largely of frustration. Or maybe it was denial, of the reality that the San Francisco 49ers' eighth straight non-winning season was on the horizon. But what was lunacy then looks like clairvoyance now. It's not that what the Niners CEO was predicting -- that his 0-5 team would win the NFC West -- would come true. It didn't. It was in York's reasoning, which stemmed from his belief that a sturdy foundation had been built in Santa Clara, even with some pieces crumbling around it. That belief kept York from blowing up the Niners completely in 2011. It led him to push current general manager Trent Baalke to find current Coach Jim Harbaugh. It prompted York to encourage the new regime to augment rather than detonate a roster, a staff and a program. Yes, the Niners' trip to the Super Bowl after 18 years away is, in large part, about the brilliant job Harbaugh has done since he became their coach in January 2011. But it's also about ...
