San Francisco A jumbled collage of colorful neighborhoods and beautiful views, San Francisco draws those free-spirited types who have an eye for edgy art, a taste for imaginative cuisine and a zeal for adventure. It's really not surprising that songwriter Tony Bennett left his heart here: The city boasts jaw-dropping sights, world-class cuisine, cozy cafes and plenty of booming nightlife venues — there's no shortage of ways to stay busy here. Spend an hour or two sunning yourself alongside sea lions on the bay, admiring the views of the city from Twin Peaks, or strolling along the Marina. And for the quintessential San Franciscan experience, enjoy a ride on a cable car. Often described as Los Angeles' more refined northern cousin, cool and compact San Francisco takes the big-city buzz exuded by its southern counterpart and melds it with a sense of small-town charm. Here, you'll discover a mish-mash of culture flourishing throughout San Francisco's many vibrant quarters. Follow the crowds to the touristy ...
Arrived in Reno on Thursday and met up with my sister, D. We stayed at the Nugget that evening. Of course my sister arrived there first so she checked several rooms before the final selection. On Friday we headed to San Francisco and spent time at the Golden Gate Bridge. We also went to Muir Woods. Yesterday we started out on a wine tour but at the first stop realized that in addition to the tour fee we would have to pay $20+ at each winery to taste. I had a quick conversation with the tour guide and was able to get a refund so we went back to the hotel and made a reservation for a wine tour at the Jarvis Winery. This tour was well worth the expense and we had a wonderful time. Now today we are waiting for the fog to clear and then we will continue with sight seeing. Tomorrow we will head to Reno and then the conference will begin on Tuesday.
Santa Cruz.south out San Francisco yesterday, down the peninsula and over the Santa Cruz Mnts and down good old Highway 17 and right into my favorite little city/Big town on earth. Santa Cruz Botanical Gardens (Go Banana Slugs!!!). Truthfully every time I visit this heaven on earth or as close as I think heaven is, the weather has been warm, sunny and green green green, so I am always hesitant to revisit each time to break the magic of such a sacred treasure to me during my tougher time in life. It lived up to the billing yesterday, dozens of hummingbirds, gentle honey and native bees busily working the flowers, the banksia, correa, strawflowers, erica, and California Lilac in bloom as well as the Yellow Flannel Shrub under the California Live Oaks that greets me at the entry each visit. We wandered the Eucalyptu ...

Dutch scientists show: the 1962 Alcatraz Escape was possible On 11 June 1962, three prisoners escaped from the heavily guarded prison island of Alcatraz just north of San Francisco. Where did their handcrafted rubber boat take them that night? The fate of Clarence Anglin, John Anglin and Frank Morris has continued to mystify the world down to the present day. When Dutch scientists were developing a model of the San Francisco Bay to study the impact of sea-level rise, they realised that this model could also shed light on one of the USA’s most intriguing stories. They have now completed their simulation work and conclude that an escape was indeed possible. In hindsight, the best time to launch a boat from Alcatraz was 23.30, one and a half hours later than has generally been assumed. A rubber boat leaving Alcatraz at 23.30 would most likely have landed just north of the Golden Gate Bridge. The model also shows that debris in that scenario would be likely to wash up at Angel Island, exactly where one of t ...

WILD STORM TODAY By Martha Mendoza San FranCISCO (AP) — A powerful storm churned through Northern California on Thursday, knocking out power to tens of thousands and delaying commuters while soaking the region with much-needed rain. Throughout the Bay Area, waves slammed onto waterfronts, ferries were bound to their docks, many schools canceled classes and the gusting winds had motorists tightly gripping their steering wheels on the Golden Gate Bridge, where managers created a buffer zone to prevent head-on collisions by swerving cars. The iconic Suspension Bridge is engineered to swing in cross winds, and engineers were standing by, but "the concern we have right now is more about vehicles," spokeswoman Priya David Clemens said. In Santa Cruz, about an hour south of San Francisco, an elementary school student was trapped for about 15 minutes when an 80-foot tree fell on him, pinning his arm and shoulder until rescuers with chain saws cut it apart. He was taken to a hospital in good condition but likely ...
Before the construction of all the bridges within the region, the San Francisco ferries were an important part of everyday life for many in the Bay Area. Being the only form of transportation in and out of the city, thousands of people relied on the ferries. The famous Ferry Building was then used as the main terminal. After the construction of many of the now iconic bridges of the Bay Area such as the Golden Gate Bridge, the necessity for the ferries had drastically reduced. Although many of the old lines are no longer existent, tourists and residents alike still come in the thousands to use the ferries which are still active today. The Ferry Building was reopened in the early 2000s to become one of the most popular tourists attractions within the city. The old baggage claim area has been renovated to become a gourmet marketplace featuring local goods. PS: While taking the ferries at daytime is fun, I recommend taking a ride at a later time because the night view of the city and the bridges are just AMAZ ...
San Andreas Fault 'BURPS' 2.1 OFF GOLDEN Gate Bridge The USGS reported an offshore 2.1 magnitude earthquake @ 11:15 am smack dab on the San Andreas Fault located five miles off the Golden Gate Bridge and 5 miles SSW of Tamalpais-Homestead Valley, 7 miles SSW of Mill Valley & 9 miles W of San Francisco. It was 6.3 miles deep. There was one dubious report of "feeling it" from Emeryville (18 miles away). They would have felt it in San Francisco (half the distance) before the East Bay. Rarely offshore quakes this small are felt. But it does show some activity on the San Andreas Fault - something we haven't seen of late. An Amazing Fact: Have you ever heard your parents say, “If your friends told you to jump off a bridge, would you do it?” Apparently some do. On March 11, 2011, a California high school student visiting the Golden Gate Bridge on a morning field trip climbed over a railing and jumped. He was evidently urged on by a dare from fellow classmates. Miraculously the teenager survived the 220-foot plunge into San Francisco Bay that kills dozens of people each year. Landing on water after a 220-foot fall feels like landing on concrete after a 100-foot drop. Most jumpers die a grisly death with massive internal injuries, broken bones, and skull fractures. Some die from internal bleeding, while others drown in the cold water. But amazingly the 17-year-old lived. A statement from his school said he suffered no severe injuries beyond bruising and tenderness. He was rescued by a surfer who paddled over and towed him ashore. California Highway Patrol Officer Chris Rardin said, “It’s a miracle in itself. The major ...

This is where my parents danced in 1939 in San Francisco & we make their table tops!. The views from the restaurant are spectacular; of the financial district, Chinatown, North Beach, The San Francisco Bay, and the Grace Cathedral and Huntington Park. In 1939 the hotel owner George D. Smith converted the 11-room penthouse on the hotel's 19th floor into a glass-walled cocktail lounge which became known as the Top of The Mark. The hotel itself was built on the site of the old Mark Hopkins mansion, which burnt down after the San Francisco earthquake of 1906. During World War II, when San Francisco was a major transit point for troops going to the Pacific Theater, US Navy officers traditionally had a farewell drink before shipping out while watching the sun set over the Golden Gate Bridge.

I'm toying with the idea of flying out to San Francisco, California for a few days (maybe a late flight on Friday, January 16 to San Fran & a late flight back to Boston on Sunday, January 18, with the state holiday to recover on Monday, January 19). My singular goal is to visit The Walt Disney Family Museum but I have no idea what hotels may be available nearby & what their price ranges may be. Does anyone have any experience with the area who may be able to suggest an affordable hotel that is within a reasonable (walking?) distance of the Presidio?! I'd settle for a reasonable public transit or similar commute. Sure, I wouldn't mind seeing the Golden Gate Bridge but beyond that, I don't really have an opinion on seeing anything else. Any & all help would be appreciated. My date is also flexible and I'm just picking that for a long weekend so I don't have to use vacation time. :)

One of the world's scariest places - Aokigahara, Japan This forest at the base of Mount Fuji is like something out of The Blair Witch Project. It has an historic association with demons in Japanese mythology, and is the second most popular place in the world for suicides, after San Francisco's Golden Gate Bridge. More than 50 people took their own lives here in 2010 alone, and an annual body hunt is undertaken by volunteers. Carleton Morse - Created Soap Opera 'One Man's Family'! Carleton E. Morse, who created "One Man's Family," the longest-running soap opera in American radio history, died on Monday. He was 91. "One Man's Family" centered on a family in the well-to-do Sea Cliff area of San Francisco, overlooking the Golden Gate Bridge. The tribulations of its main characters, Fanny, Henry and Jack Barbour, dominated the national airwaves from the time the show began in 1932 until it went off the air in 1959 after 3,256 episodes. Its fame made San Franciscans proud, said a city historian, Gladys Hansen. "It was our early-day mini-series," she said. "But ours, at least, always had a full family, and everyone cared about each other. It was our adopted family. It meant home to all of us. No matter where you were, if you turned on the radio, you were home." Mr. Morse was born in 1901 in Jennings, La. He moved west with his family in 1906, just before the great earthquake. His family pushed on to Oregon but returned to Sacrament ...

Golden Gate Bridge?. Thats in San Francisco also... Game is in Oakland.
How much would it cost if the King of Monsters destroyed San Francisco's Golden Gate Bridge? Plenty.
Mythbusters discussed the 11th June 1960 escape from Alcatraz tonight. They say that anyone who went into the water would quickly die from the cold. Water temperature in San Francisco Bay right now is 15.3C, and presumably in June it would be a bit warmer. It is about 4-5km from Alcatraz to land on Marin Headlands near the Golden Gate Bridge, though intelligently using the tide could effectively reduce this considerably. (Angel Island is closer, but we're told that tidal currents make this a bad choice). Anyhow, I finally get to my question: Given what we know about the distance and the water temperature, are there sea swimmers here who would think that they could make it to safety from Alcatraz swimming all the way? It doesn't seem beyond possibility, but there seems to be an assumption that if the escapees raincoat 'boat' failed and they landed in water, that they would certainly drown. Surely not so in June if they could swim.
Thank you all for the kind birthday wishes! I feel a lot older and wiser compared to yesterday. The Lions Gate is not as extravagant as the Golden Gate Bridge in San Francisco but it is part of Vancouver and it is still quite the sight at night time!
A fearless worker on the unfinished Golden Gate Bridge, San Francisco. Ca 1935
Out at the ranch yesterday evening... This is the view from "Sunset Ridge". The mountain top in the background is Mt. Tamalpais which is on the north side of the Golden Gate Bridge. This view is looking across the bay to the mountains (Tamalpais) which have the Pacific Ocean on the other side. I can see from Napa to San Francisco, with binoculars, and watch the fog roll in.
We had a wonderful day in San Francisco today. We went to the National Maritime Museum on the waterfront and to Fisherman's Wharf. We had lunch at Capurro's at the Wharf. We then drove around and found the Lombard Street which is so steep it winds back and forth as it descends. We saw the streetcars and I got a good photo of the Golden Gate Bridge. All in all, it was a great day.
It's set in San Francisco and highlights the Golden Gate Bridge but it's based on Chris Christie and the George Washington.
We had an amazing adventure to San Francisco over the weekend. We probably put in 50,000 miles of walking. Lmao.. Ok... maybe not that many! Lol... We started out at Neiman Marcus for lunch, then off to pier 39, China Town an many, many, pubs along the way an last of all ended up in Sausalito with a beautiful view of the Golden Gate Bridge! :-P

San FranCISCO (KRON) — The weekend redesign of the last San Francisco exit before drivers get on the Golden Gate Bridge is causing confusion and even a serious wreck during the Monday morning commute.
Recently back from San Francisco. The Golden Gate Bridge isn't bad but it's no Forth Rail.
San Francisco looks just like in the movies. Hills with pastel Art Deco houses jammed together one after the other. Heading towards the Golden Gate Bridge now.
I definitely got my workout today with over four miles of pounding the city streets. I thought that I was being smart utilizing my "smart" phone along with the Google Maps application to try to unlock some of the mysteries of San Francisco's city transit system. It turns out that the app wasn't as slick as I initially thought it was. It doesn't differentiate between city busses and "other" commercial busses. I tried to board a bus with my Muni pass and the driver got really short with me for trying to do so. A passenger in the back came to my rescue and told me where to board the correct bus for my desired destination; which I did. Once I got to the Marina District I figured that I would walk the rest of the way because it was such a lovely day and the scenery was just splendid. Me and the Time Bandits got some great photos. After a while, I started to notice there weren't any city bus stops anywhere but kept on walking anyway and, before I knew it, I was standing beneath the Golden Gate Bridge. My ...

Takeoff RWY 28L, with a climbout towards the sunset over the Pacific Ocean. Right turn to pass the Golden Gate Bridge and downtown San Francisco. Two "problems": 1) The video is 6:30. 2) Irresistibly tempting to immediately fly to San Francisco. Can help you with number 2). Just buy a ticket! ✈️ Welcome to SAS!

There are days when you are just real happy to be a part of standup paddling and today was one of those days. On the beaches of San Francisco Bay under the gaze of the Golden Gate Bridge basking in sunshine, warm Spring temps and a light bay breeze over 40 SUP competitors of all ages and experience enjoyed a fun filled and competitive day of racing. Big shout out to Brent, Mel and John of the StFYC for their great spirit and efforts, the club is amazing host and we're looking forward to race on April 26 to determine the series champions. Also, big thanks to the Alexiou family of Santa Cruz for the great racing and great photos to come as well as Steve Funk and the boys who came down from Tahoe to race and take home some hardware. San Francisco day 3: bike ride across the Golden Gate Bridge to Sausalito 🚲
A day out to San Francisco. A wasted opportunity unable to visit the prison for the worst prisoner, Alcatraz. Only manage to take a shoot of it on a ferry ride. Golden Gate Bridge. Sea lions. And a mobile island.
So excited to go to California not only do we get to see family, but we are going to The Walt Disney Family Museum, the Exploratorium at its new home and a harbor cruise around the Golden Gate Bridge and Alcatraz. After being to San Francisco so many times I can't believe I get to finally do a bunch of touristy stuff!! :)

New to our list! Frank Family Pinot Noir. Gets a great review! 4.0 star rating 3/2/2014 We rode our bikes over the Golden Gate Bridge and it was the highlight of our trip in San Francisco. Blazing Saddles gave us a card for a complimentary appetizer for the Trident. They also told us they have complimentary bike parking too. We weren't sure if we were going to stop or not. However it appeared to be a really cool restaurant right on the water and as we approached the restaurant we wanted to have a waterfront view and glass of wine. Lucky us- it was Happy Hour! Woo Hoo! We ordered two glasses of $5 Happy Hour white wine, two fish tacos, a clam chowder bread bowl and calamari. As we sipped our wine the sun was going down and our experience at the Trident is a memorable one. The food was enjoyable and we both thought for Happy Hour food it was very good. The highlight was the Frank Family Pinot Noir and it made our evening magical to have a superb wine and beautiful setting. We would come back to the Trident ...

Call for action as suicides from San Francisco's Golden Gate Bridge reach record numbers
Sometimes I go for a walk on Google Maps. Today I've been to San Francisco and the Golden Gate Bridge.
Suicide Rates Hit Record High At Golden Gate Bridge A tragic record is being reported out of San Francisco. The amount of people who have jumped to their death from the Golden Gate Bridge is at it’s highest since it opened 77 years ago. The count is 2000 since it's been open. This should definitely be put in the gun control bill as bridge control.
I don't think anyone should take this very seriously, but it does illustrate how diverse our State truly is. He made some interesting choices here. Personally, I find Marin County and San Francisco to be very similar. It would be odd to cross the Golden Gate Bridge (by car, bike or on foot) and find yourself in a different state - especially for this Bay Area native who is accustom to driving many hours before entering a new state :)
When I first moved here the Golden Gate Bridge toll was .50 cents. NOW it's going up to 7 bucks and 8 by 2018? What a shakedown!! I would rather take the Richmond/San Rafael bridge, go thru Berkeley and cross Oakland Bay Bridge into SF than get stiffed and charged 7 bucks just for the privilege of entering San Francisco.
Golden Gate Bridge, San Francisco, California, USA. The way the sun is hitting it, makes it look like it is on fire. Beautiful.
San Francisco. I can't see the Great Wall of China from space but I can see the Golden Gate Bridge
How great is it to live in California? I mean, I can see the San Francisco skyline from my back porch. I can walk to the Golden Gate Bridge if I want. I wake up to the awesome sight of Mt. Tamalpais every morning. And, like my son Peter and his late dog Chase pictured here, I can be in Yosemite in less than three hours. Or, on a really good day when my sons Gabe and Peter and their wives Jen and Sierra are in town like in my cover photo above, we can all meet for brunch in Hayes Valley. The other pic is Gabe wearing my Sacramento Union baseball cap when I had a sweet job writing columns for the oldest paper West of the Mississippi, where both Mark Twain and Herb Caen were employed. I have never taken California for granted; never will. We are very blessed.

A dramatic fog settles over San Francisco and the Golden Gate Bridge
Today has been one of the best days of my life. Spent time with family, got to go to San Francisco, saw the Golden Gate Bridge, saw Alcatraz, and saw the Pacific Ocean. All of these things were completely new to me. Although some stuff got really emotional because this was a trip I planned to take with my Dad, I got to keep my promise to him and put a flower in my hair. Now I'm boarded my first leg of my flight home.
Wanna visit the Golden Gate Bridge in San Francisco? Here is my live video.
On this very special day, I'd just like to take a little time to spread a little love to someone who has made the last 2+ years of my life completely awesome. Living in San Francisco has been incredible, but it wouldn't be nearly as good without you. We've gone on plenty of adventures, including Oakland A's games agains the Mariners and Yankees, trips over the Golden Gate Bridge for romantic afternoon adventures in Sausalito, and even a couple of road trips up to the Seattle and Lopez Island for the 4th of July, with stops in Eureka and a jaunt through the Redwoods. And that trip to Stinson Beach and Point Reyes... I mean, I got engaged on that trip! What I'm really trying to say is, I love my Subaru Outback. Happy Valentine's Day to all the other lovers out there, too!
I live about 2 hours from San Francisco. It is a beautiful city, a little cold in the summer, but it has the Golden Gate Bridge. One time we left before 4am so we could walk on the bridge at sunrise. It was one of the most wonderful days of my life. My boys were small, played with toy cars, and my youngest was barely out of diapers. Can it be so many yesterdays that we laughed at the beauty all around us? Another morning we drove all night to Los Angelas, through the hills above the city. Streets so narrow it almost felt like being in Europe. We had to hike, but our hands planted themselves proudly on the "O" in the Hollywood sign just as it was officially sunrise. We stayed a few hours, then drove the four hours home. Victory! Another moment I was happy I acted on instinct. It isn't always accurate. I attempted to roller blade down a mountain in Palm Springs and flew over a cliff once. It was in the middle of the night. Maybe that was my problem, it needed to be sunrise. I had a small tear in ...

International design firm IDEO (www.ideo.com) is working on a project about what the First Amendment means to people in the 21st century, and we’re looking for two different types/groups of people to interview in the San Francisco area, all centered around advocacy, the 1st Amendment, and exciting spaces. The profiles are: -A family with at least two children, who love to go on vacation to sightsee. They would rather go to SF and see the Golden Gate Bridge or Alcatraz than go camping or head to the beach and just hang out. -A “Millennial”, 18-34, who has been or is currently part of some kind of advocacy. Whether you were part or a currently part of a college political club, volunteer for Habitat for Humanity, spread the word of God, or anything in between, we’re looking for people who are active in changing things around them. If you feel like you fit any of the above profiles and are interested in helping us, we’d love to meet with you. We’ll be in the SF area during the week of February 17 ...
It was a very tiring and exhausting week but indeed a wonderful and memorable experience. We visited various famous tourists spots in California, Anaheim's famous Disneyland, The Universal Studios , famous Walk of Fame, the Red Carpet in Los Angeles's Hollywood district, Sta Monica's beachfront, a great tour in San Francisco's tourist spots, the famous Golden Gate Bridge, the Bay Bridge, Pier 39 or the Fisherman's Wharf as they call it, and many more. And we had the chance to be reunited with our relatives. Many thanks to sister Leth Aguilar in touring us around.

Today, I biked a total of 33.9 miles. From my apartment up Polk Street to Fort Mason to Crissy Field, across the Golden Gate Bridge to Sausalito, then to Mill Valley to Strawberry, down to Belvedere and Tiburon, then on Paradise Drive all the way to Corte Madera and to the Ferry Terminal in Larkspur. After a boat ride from Larkspur to the Ferry Building in San Francisco, I rode home. I got to see a lot of Marin County that I had never been to, despite living in the Bay Area for seventeen years.

SeagateCreative partner Ross Ching offers up this amazing time-lapse film series called "Empty America." This first film reveals San Francisco, California. From the Golden Gate Bridge to Fisherman's Wharf to Lombard Street to Ghirardelli Square to the Bay Bridge - get a good look at some of San Francisco's most iconic landmarks (wiped empty of tourists and traffic). Ross worked with Thrash Lab to create this series of videos, aiming to show some of the most iconic cities in America — without people. It’s a series that was initially inspired by Matt Logue’s photo series “Empty LA”. Two years ago, Ross took Logue's concept and combined it with what he does best: time lapse photography. Ross' video “Running on Empty” was such a huge success that he wanted to expand upon it but didn’t have a budget to do so. Thanks to Thrash Lab's support, the series is now a reality.

TWO RIVET RULE FOR LIFE CHANGE These days, books promise easy and quick solutions to almost everything. Whether it’s a stain on your shirt or a marriage on the verge of collapse, it seems life’s problems can be corrected in just three easy steps. But in truth, our lives benefit from deep, lasting growth when we make changes slowly. At the time the Golden Gate Bridge was built in the 1930s, its designers believed their construction could withstand any magnitude earthquake. But the bridge lies just a few miles from the infamous San Andreas Fault, making it particularly vulnerable to earthquakes. As a crucial transportation hub for the San Francisco area, it was decided several sections of the bridge needed to undergo a “seismic retrofit.” There was only one problem. The bridge had to remain strong, usable, and as safe as possible against earthquakes until the retrofit was complete. To insure that, a “two rivet rule” was applied. This meant no more than two rivets at a time could be removed. If a ...

So I'm living in San Francisco, California (Golden Gate Bridge visible from the kitchen window) with my own studio apt that looks just like Carrie's from Sex and the City, it was just me and my baby girl Lelu at Christmas. I was laying in bed in front of the fireplace (electric, of course) looking at my big decorated black tree and watching all my favorite holiday movies on TV...best dream ever!!! Hoping for a dream come true in 2014!!!

That we spent the day at the huge Monterey Bay Aquarium. And she loved it...and tried to take home a starfish from the petting tank... 5. That she went on a cross country road trip..and did wonderful! 6. That she ate alligator & liked it. 7. That she went to the aquarium and zoo in Dallas. 8. That she had pets, and loved them dearly. Pictures of Carmel got us thru many long days in the hospital. 9. That she loved riding in her Barbie jeep. 10. That she was a little fashionista & insisted on wearing her crown and Easter basket to Walmart. 11. That she thought everyone was her friend, she was such a friendly baby. 12. That she was more interested in playing with the wrapping paper with her Daddy than ...
San Francisco is a cool place. Although it was raining and with very low clouds, we did get to see the Golden Gate Bridge and Alcatraz. I drove down the famous Lombard Street and we dined at Fisherman's Wharf. The pic below is at Lou's Fish Shack - great fish tacos and fish and chips! Next stop, Jackson Hole, Wyoming.
Okay, my number is 14, so here goes: 1). I was named after the 1966 Alfred Hitchcock movie, Marnie. My parents saw the billboard, liked the name, but changed the spelling. 2). I was a nanny in Manhattan for the DuPont family. 3). I went to four different middle schools in the seventh grade. 3). My parents once let me cut school so I could be on the KFRC Dance Party in San Francisco. (Think American Bandstand, but local) 4). I talked my way into a birthday party for MTV VJ JJ Jackson back in the 80's. lol 5). I have stood on top of one of the towers of the Golden Gate Bridge. 6). My dogs are named after an actor and a musician (Gary Busey and Steve Earle) 7). . I'm a Colts fan from the Bay Area. I'm currently in San Francisco and about to jump off the Golden Gate Bridge.
About 6 Months ago I decided I wanted to at least attempt a half marathon. So I signed up and posted my registration in hopes maybe a friend or two would join me. When I went to the active.com site and looked at the list of upcoming events in my 6 month goal range. Healdsburg, CA! I grew up in Mendocino County and travel home often to visit family and friends and sometimes photography projects/assignments. So I'm well aware of the beauty north of the Golden Gate Bridge that unfolds from September to November. Done deal. The thought of running throught the amber and reddish and golden tones of freshly harvested vineyards was enough motivation for me. The side benefit was I thought I would be able to recruit some Mendocino friends to join in my fun/pain. Immediately there was interest on several parts but that was all thwarted by the Nike Womens Marathon in San Francisco the same date! So I lost my friends to the big party in the city. I tried to reschedule my run. No go. So i either eat the registration .. ...
Adventures cont... San Francisco is a really beautiful city which is set on so many hills. Yesterday we did a wine tour of the Soloma & Napa Valleys. The region produces lots of Pinot Noir which is a favourite of mine so I was excited. We visited the Muir Redwood forest which was pretty. Stopped at 3 vineyards purchased a couple of yummy bottles. Got dropped off at Sausalito which is where Otis Redding wrote "Sitting on The Dock of the Bay" because this town sits across for, the San Francsico Bay Area and gets unbelievable views of the city and Golden Gate Bridge. We then caught the ferry back to the city so we could catch these sites. Today we headed out to Fishermans Wharf which reminded me lots of Fremante. Then caught another boat out to Alcatraz for our night tour of "The Rock". Was tour was really well down and really interesting. Was also friggin freezing. We were rugged up like we were heading to the snow. Early night tonight for our early flight tomorrow to our last stop on this adventure before ...
We walked over the Golden Gate Bridge today easy walk took us 55 mins but we were stopping for photo's etc, my phone went flat as usual, amazing views. Much longer than the Brooklyn Bridge bit scary if your scared of heights. We were really lucky it was a beautiful clear day and no fog which is amazing for San Francisco. It was a great day apart from walking all over the city, those hilly streets kill, they are worse than walking the bridge !
Family & friends I just got into my motel room in San Francisco, had a smooth flight from Hawaii. Looking forward to checking out the Bay Area & city tomorrow, & hopefully go across the Golden Gate Bridge. It 12.00pm here & only left Hawaii at 2.00pm so the flight was only 4 hours long but flying into another Time Zone made us arrive at 10.30pm which was really only 7.00pm Hawaii time so I'm losing time as I go on lol

:: Casualty and damage reports from the four major Breen targets here on Earth are still being updated by the hour. However, for now, here's what we know about those targets. (I'll leave Starfleet casualty/damage reports for another update): San Francisco was hit hard in the Breen attack on Wednesday. Beyond the severe damage to Starfleet Headquarters and Starfleet Academy, the Golden Gate Bridge was destroyed. I believe it collapsed as a result of weapons fire, falling debris, and at least one Breen fighter that rammed into the suspension cables. As of today, there is no more Golden Gate Bridge; all that remains are the supports at both ends of the Bay. Three tall buildings in downtown San Francisco have also collapsed, taking down partial structures nearby as they fell. One of these collapsed towers is the historic 48-floor Transamerica Pyramid.
