A TAD BEAT DOWN FROM MY 56-HOUR TRIP TO DC AND BACK FOR THE MANKIEWICZ AND BRADLEE MEMORIAL SERVICES, I didn't’t realize until now that Tom Menino, the very recent mayor of Boston had died. I knew him, barely, and only because of my connection to the Red Sox, but I was around him enough to get a sense of him, in both Boston and in San Diego (he was here with his wife when the Sox played the Padres, and John Henry and Larry Lucchino invited the mayor and his wife to attend the game at Petco Park in their company, and mine). There’s no chance in *** you get to be mayor of Boston absent the human touch, and Mayor Menino had it – and then some. I remember one of the mayor’s pals, Nick Mitropoulos, telling me that in Boston, “You don’t move a trash can without the mayor okaying it.” Talk about strong mayor government, that’s the Boston Way, and Mayor Menino used that great power to advance the public interest. Was he Boston’s greatest mayor? Others will make that judgment, but in my 12-yea .. ...

Mr. Gwynn, Mr. Padre. I don't know what to feel today. I was blessed to live in an era where you and Cal Ripken, Jr. gave 20 years of wonderful service to your respective organizations. In a world of free agency, steroids and professional athlete scandals, you lived above the fray. You always gave to the Padres, their fans, and more importantly, the community. I never played baseball, but I became a big fan of baseball, of the Padres, through you. You helped me appreciate the sweet science of hitting, honing your craft through video and hard work. The 5.5 hole was always afraid of the most pure hitter in baseball. I was honored to meet you a couple of times, and I was moved being at Petco Park during your retirement ceremony. I am proud to say that you represent San Diego sports, and with a heavy heart I tip my cap to you Mr. Gwynn.
Tony Gwynn was remembered fondly by fans who honored the late San Diego Padres legend outside of Petco Park.

Will Venable got things started for the Padres' offense with a leadoff home run in the first. The homer was Venable's first of the season and his 10th career leadoff home run, improving his franchise-best mark. The Padres used another big inning to pad the lead, with Chris Denorfia's two-run single serving as the big blow in a four-run fourth. "Two big outbursts on Friday and Saturday, and today we had some big hits," Padres manager Bud Black said. "Denorfia got the big two-out hit after they pitched around Will. James Ward won 10 of the last 11 games to upset big-serving Sam Querrey 1-6, 7-6, 3-6, 6-4, 6-1 on Friday and give Britain a commanding 2-0 lead over the United States in their Davis Cup World Group first-round tie in San Diego. The 175th-ranked Ward sealed his stunning victory over the 49th-ranked Querrey in just over three hours after Wimbledon champion Andy Murray had crushed Donald Young, the replacement for the injured John Isner, 6-1, 6-2, 6-3 in the opening singles match at Petco Park. Ward let out a deafening scream after ending the match on the red clay surface with an overhead forehand smash, having improved his Davis Cup singles record to 9-5.

Jerry Coleman - A STAR IN OUR LIVES! Yesterday thousands of us attended and paid our respects to iconic Padres broadcaster Jerry Coleman at his public memorial service at Petco Park. This service celebrating his life and accomplishments, both on and off the field. Mr. Coleman, who spent 71 years as a ballplayer and a broadcaster, passed away at the age of 89 here in San Diego. This event featured special guests whose lives were touched in one way or another by Mr. Coleman. Elected to the Padres' Hall of Fame in 2001, Mr. Coleman always tried to deflect any type of praise bestowed upon him. Whether it was for winning the Ford C. Frick Award for broadcasting in 2005, or his decorated military career, Mr. Coleman preferred to stay out of the spotlight. Prior to starring in the baseball broadcast booth, Mr. Coleman was an infielder for the Yankees from 1949-57. While trying to put together a successful baseball career, Mr. Coleman also served in World War II and the Korean conflict, making him the only ...

Dear Members, Court availability is looking good on the weekend. All three challenge courts will be in operation tomorrow. Some league play is scheduled for Saturday afternoon, yet otherwise courts are wide open. Chamber of Commerce weather is expected to continue through next week. Due to the Santa Ana winds, the courts have absorbed a great amount of debris and leaves. George is cleaning the courts as fast as possible to try and keep up with the conditions. Management is aware of the conditions and working hard to eliminate the dust as quickly as possible. The time is right to buy Davis Cup Tickets to help promote this great event which is coming to Petco Park in just a few weeks. Sales are coming along but they still have a lot of tickets to sell. San Diego doesn’t want to have the TV cameras panning empty seats in the stands! Rumor has it that single tickets are supposed to go on sale Monday. This high quality event takes place January 31-Feb 2, 2014 featuring USA vs. Great Britain. I'm atta ...
On a sad note RIP to a great American, from the greatest generation Jerry Coleman. A World War Two hero and a great Yankee player from the Fifties. SAN DIEGO -- Hall of Fame broadcaster Jerry Coleman, a former Second Baseman for the New York Yankees who interrupted his pro career to fly as a Marine Corps pilot in World War II and Korea, died Sunday after a brief illness, the San Diego Padres said. He was 89. Coleman spent more than four decades with the Padres as a broadcaster, and managed them in 1980. Padres president Mike Dee said Coleman died at a hospital Sunday afternoon. He said the team was notified by Coleman's wife, Maggie. "It's a sad day," Padres manager Bud Black said. "We're losing a San Diego icon. He's going to be missed." The Padres planned to keep Coleman's statue at Petco Park open until 11:30 p.m. Sunday so fans could pay tribute. The team unveiled the statue in September 2012. While recounting his military career in an interview days before the statue was unveiled, Coleman said: "Your ...

BYE, BYE BURNETT When the Yankees stop payin’, A.J. stops playin’…in Pittsburgh, anyway. RHP A.J. Burnett got paid $33 million to pitch for the Pirates over the last two seasons. But his previous employer, the New York Yankees, picked up $20m of that. Now that it’s time to pay full freight or part ways, the Pirates don’t want Burnett. That was made all but official when the Pirates signed RHP Edinson Volquez to a one-year, $5m deal. That’s about $9m less than Burnett probably wanted. Volquez is no bargain. The Pirates will likely get exactly what they paid for. Volquez, 30, led NL pitchers in earned runs allowed last year. In 2012, he led NL pitchers in bases on balls. Volquez has had one good year, 2008. He went 17-6 for Cincinnati, posting a 3.21 ERA. It’s his only big-league season with an ERA under four. Volquez went 9-12 with a 5.71 ERA last campaign, splitting it between San Diego and Los Angeles. San Diego's Petco Park is the best pitchers' ballpark in MLB. Volquez made 15 starts at P ...

I just spent an absolutely delightful late afternoon and evening with my brother, Jayar! He flew in from Houston, I picked him up at the airport, gave him a long 'cooks tour' - of San Diego - Downtown, all the places I go to court, the jail, my old building from the 80's then to the NEW library, Petco Park, the Harbor, Balboa Park, Mission Bay - up the coast to 101 for dinner in Encinitas - then dropped him at La Costa! WHAT a day - and wonderful review of this lovely city he's never seen most of it, and this was a 'fond farewell' for me - - I leave in 6 weeks. A beautiful day!

Luke Gregerson (6-8) allowed a one-out double in the 12th to Chris Owings, who came around to score on a triple by Didi Gregorius to lift Arizona to the victory. Josh Collmenter (5-4) pitched a scoreless 11th to earn the win and Brad Ziegler retired the Padres in the 12th for his 12th save. Woohoo, the Giants beat the Mets 2-1! Not too much happened in this game, but Mad Bum pitched a great game, going 7 innings only allowing one run! Juan Perez drove in a run! But yes, nice way for the Giants to close out this series against the Mets in the 1st half of their week in NYC. BTW, I commend all the Giants fans who showed up at Citi Field! Great job by them! I wish I could've been there. Giants fans took over Citi Field, like Giants fans take over Petco Park in San Diego! These games in NYC against the Mets were like Giants home games at AT&T. Padres 6, Dodgers 3 By Forrest Lee SAN DIEGO -- Pedro Ciriaco homered and drove in three runs to power the San Diego Padres to a 6-3 victory over the Los Angeles Dodgers on Thursday night at Petco Park. Ciriaco, who was acquired in a trade with the Boston Red Sox last Friday, went 2-for-4 with his first home run in a Padre uniform, a two-run shot in the eighth inning. His homer allowed the Padres (37-36) to capture their seventh home win in a row. He also hit an RBI triple in the seventh inning. Nick Vincent (2-0) relieved San Diego Starter Jason Marquis and worked a scoreless seventh inning for the victory. Dodgers reliever Matt Guerrier (2-3) was tagged for two runs on only six pitches and suffered the loss. Guerrier didn't retire a batter. Marquis, who was shooting for his ninth consecutive winning decision, lasted six innings and allowed two runs on seven hits with five strikeouts and a walk. He gave up a homer in the first to Dodgers rookie sensation Yasiel Puig and a sacrifice fly to Juan Uribe in t ...
Padres won today's game! Superb starting pitching has the San Diego Padres gaining ground on the NL West-leading Arizona Diamondbacks, and on the brink of their longest winning streak of the season. Giving the ball to Jason Marquis may keep them rolling. Marquis attempts to extend his longest winning streak in nine years Saturday night against the Diamondbacks. The Padres (33-34) have won four in a row thanks largely to a 1.71 ERA from the starters, who have each gone at least seven innings in each contest. That's helped San Diego move within four games of Arizona for the division lead, though it also has San Francisco and Colorado to pass. Eric Stults provided the latest gem Friday, tossing a two-hitter in a 2-1 win over the Diamondbacks (37-30) in the opener of this three-game series at Petco Park. "Anytime you start you want to finish the game," Stults said. Marquis (8-2. 3.59 ERA) hasn't done that this year, but he's won all seven decisions over his last nine starts behind a 3.15 ERA. That includes go ...

Philadelphia Phillies 5-3 Over Washington Nationals In Nationals Park: Dan Haren Ks 10 In Nats' Loss To Phils. Dan Haren had been making steady progress after a rough start to his first year as a Washington National, but last time out in San Diego, California's Petco Park, the 32-year-old right-hander, who signed a 1-year/$13M dollar deal with the Nats this winter, had a setback. The 11-year veteran threw 97 pitches in just five innings of work and allowed nine hits and seven runs in what ended up a 13-4 loss to the Padres. That outing left the Nats' no.4 starter with a (4-5) record, a 5.54 ERA, 4.92 FIP, 10 HRs (1.79 HR/9) allowed, eight walks (1.43 BB/9) surrendered and 36 Ks (6.44 K/9) collected in nine starts and 50.1 IP so far in a Nationals uniform. Haren's 51st inning of the year went well with the Philadelphia Phillies' hitters going down in order in a 14-pitch top of the first tonight in D.C. By the end of his 10th start of 2013, Haren had collected 10 Ks, thrown 88 pitches in six innings and giv ...
Another Curly W! 6-2 win over Padres and Strasburg's first win since Opening Day and first time a start took him through the 8th inning. A swore bam-bam strokes a boomer of a homer and LaRocket hits another for his 13th straight game with a hit! Go Nat's SAN DIEGO -- Stephen Strasburg had quite the homecoming. Pitching in front of about 50 family members and friends, Strasburg lasted a career-high eight innings against his hometown Padres to snap a seven-start winless streak, and Bryce Harper and Adam LaRoche homered to lead the Washington Nationals to a 6-2 victory against San Diego on Thursday night. "It's easy pitching in front of a lot of loved ones," Strasburg said. "It's just another place to me, to be honest. It's my hometown. I'm an Aztec. But I look forward to pitching anyplace in the big leagues. It's kind of a dream come true." Strasburg's 54th big league start was his first professional appearance at Petco Park. San Diego has won 5 games in a row at Petco Park. Alonzo hit his 4th HR of the year. Jason Marquis got the Win.
If you asked the average person on the street to name some members of the San Diego Padres' roster, I would be willing to bet that you would get some weird looks...the Padres are not a team that seems to get much respect! After all, most of their games are on the West Coast and start after many fans' bedtimes; this team doesn't have a lot of star power, either, compared to a team like, say, the Yankees! Friends, it's time to start taking a deeper look at the team from San Diego...for starters, how about Chase Headley, a rising star in the game! In 2012, Headley hit .286 with 31 HR and 115 RBI; the 115 RBI led the National League! By the way, 23 of Headley's homers and 73 of his RBI came after the All-Star Break! Everth Cabrera also was a league champion in 2012...his 44 steals led the National League! The Padres play their home games in Petco Park, well-known as a pitchers' park (even though the fences are being moved in by several feet this season)...pitching kept the Padres in many games! Still here in Sunny San Diego. Got to go to TJ and hang out with my Compadres during BLACK HISTORY MONTH!! Got to go see both Qualcomm Stadium where the Chargers play and Petco Park where the Padres play. Nothing like Pac Bell Park HOME OF THE WORLD CHAMPION GIANTS!! And nothing like Monster Park formerly known as Candlestick Park or the STICK!! It's been fun being here and visiting some of the tourist attractions like Coronado Naval Shipyard, Coronado Beach, Camp Pendleton Marine Base, Navy Bases all over San Diego. It's cool how this town supports the military. I've been fortunate enough to be put in the Doubletree Hotel here and relax from our daily stress at work. The training is cool because I'm learning a lot about how to serve Veterans and provide Veteran assistance. Veterans helping Veterans!! Doesn't get any better than that. WHO'S GOT IT BETTER THAN US?!!?...NOBODY!!!
The stars are really aligning for me. CA Bar Exam in San Diego from July 30th through August 1st and then the New York Yankees arrive at Petco Park on August 2nd. Doesn't get much better than that.
AK 24-19, 1 Game Lead in AL East Thurs. Morning game - [San Diego - Petco Park] San Diego 6 Ainu Kamikazes 1 WP - 1908 Addie Joss (13-0) LP - 1969 Larry Dierker (5-5) star - SD cf 1986 Tim Raines (.368-2 HR-19 RBI-35 R-19 SB) - Raines was 4-for-5, 1 SB, 1 E (and 2 RBI. SD Starter 1908 Addie Joss is by far the most popular Pitcher in Open Leagues, but this is the most dominant record I have seen for him thus far at this point of the season. So, he needed little support. Raines struckout leading off the 1st, so he was not involved in that 3-run SD rally. His 2-Run Single came with 2-Out in th3 3rd, another 3-run Inning. It completed the scoring for the game. Standings - This is the 10th straight Win for SD (30-13), the team with the best record in the Majors. SD leads the NL Central by 9 Games. For AK, the Loss snaps a 4-game winning streak that has carried them to the top of the NL East. Two teams are only 1 GB. AK is equal to the pace of the current NL Wildcard Leader, from NL West.

Another Single and Gantner's SF plated and Insurance Run. &.Kam p Larry Dierker - 8 IP, 2 H, 0 R, 2 W, 8 K - W. SD used a Single and 2 Walks, all with 2 Out, to load the bases vs. Isringhausen in the 9th, but c 2004 Brandon Inge grounded out to 1b, ending the game. Standings - Kam (29-27) cuts SD's lead in AL West to 7 Games. However, the main teams in the AL Wildcard Race Won. Kam is 2nd in both Races. In the Wildcard, they are tied for with St. Louis of the East, ...

Mon. Evening game - [St. Louis] Barking Macaws 10 Chicago 4 WP - 1905 Addie Joss (1-0) Save - 1963 Jim Umbricht - 2007 Livan Hernandez (0-1) star - BM rf 1956 Hank Aaron (.500-1 HR-4 RBI-4 R) - Aaron has started hot. This evening Aaron hit his first HR and drew 2 Walks in 3 AB, scoring 3 Runs. Oddly, it was one of the Walks that fed BM's 7-Run 1st Inning Rally. Livan Hernandez never made it out of that Inning. BM brought 12 Batters to the Plate. So, Aaron scored the 2nd Run after his Walk, then flied out to cf with runners at Second & Third, ending the Inning. Standings - BM (2-1) recover from their Opening Day loss to win the Series. They are tied with New York for 2nd in NL Central, 1 GB undefeated Montreal (3-0). San Diego (1-2) rounds out the Division. outlook - BM's first Road Trip will take them to Petco Park for 3 games at the San Diego (0-3) team in NL West. That is the team that Montreal swept in their Opening series.

After taking two of three games from their divisional foes, the St. Louis Cardinals, the Pirates travel to San Diego this week for three games at Petco Park, ten days after losing two of three to the Padres in Pittsburgh.

Antonelli scattered 10 Hits. The only Extra Base Hit for SD was a Double (for p Addie Joss, a .133 Hitter. ***That made me curious enough to look. In a game vs. NY of AL East on the Evening of June 27, Joss went 4-for-4 with 4 Doubles and 5 RBI. He did not Start that Evening. Joss entered in the after 3 Batters, with 0 Out in the 4th Inning. At that point SD trailed 6-4. Joss got tagged, too. At the end of the Inning NY led 10-4. SD answered with 7 Runs in the 4th to take an 11-10 lead. Joss' 3-Run Double was a big part of that rally. Joss settled down and pitched 5 IP, batting enough to collect those 4 Doubles. He shutout NY the rest of the way, leaving with a 14-10 lead. But, NY scored 6 Runs in the 9th to Win 16-14. Joss had 4 Doubles and No Decision. *** ...
I, as a big fan of the San Diego Padres am happy to hear that there has been an actual agreement signed to sell the Pads to a new ownership group including Peter O'Malley (Dodgers family), Ron Fowler (Del Mar Liquor/Beer distributor) and Phil Mickelson (professional golfer and native San Diegan)! This is great news for the club which is being sold for $800M after the $545M proposal fell thru earlier this Spring. I would like to believe that with this group of owners the Padres will not only survive in San Diego, but THRIVE with the new Fox deal and the "not so old" venue of Petco Park and a real BASEBALL GUY at the helm. GO PADRES!
4.1 aftershock at 9:33 am on Whittier fault in Santa Ana area (from last nights 4.4)..about 40 miles away in Orange County...hm. Felt a nice little rumble here in Studio City...exciting! Ruth and I Off to San Diego today to see the Cubs and the Padres- and Eric! A battle of the Titans! But San Diego is beautiful as is Petco Park!(and then there is the traditional Tilted Kilt stop at Petco's main entrance that ERIC insists on!)
For the second straight night, San Diego reliever Brad Brach put out a Chicago rally and the Padres beat the Cubs again at Petco Park. The final score this time was 7-4. Starter Ross Ohlendorf (4-2) pitched six innings and Huston Street chalked up his 20th save in 20 chances.
Come to Petco Park or Qualcomm Stadium in San Diego for your North American tour leg. Thank you sweetie.
A view of San Diego's Petco Park from a $26 million crosswalk from the Convention Center. A bridge to somewhere.
Coming home to Petco Park to start a six game homestand Friday night, the Padres (45-63) had to go up against the New York Mets (52-55) knuckleball ace R.A. Dickey (14-3). San Diego managed only four hits but behind the pitching of Clayton Richard (8-11), Luke Gregerson and Huston Street (18 saves) came away with a 3-1 victory.
Last day in San Diego so Nolan Bennett & I will be exploring downtown, maybe catch early dinner at Seaport Village & heading over to Petco Park to cheer on the Padres in their retro brown & yellow against the Mets! 80's band will also perform before the game & heading home right after. :)

Fun day in San Diego. Took the 901 bus to PETCO Park for a Padres day game ($1.10) for us seniors. Got a free hot dog and a coke for the price of the ticket. Cost me $16.75 for another beer and a brat. Padres won 8-4, of course they were play the Astros. Went down to the Gaslamp District and stopped off at The Reef. Watching Opening Day at Del Mar on the TV. Picking horses by names and Elaine did quite well. Me, not so well. Doesn't bode well for Fri. I may be buying lots of hay for the ponies. Took the ferry back from San Diego to Coronado. Got my lottery tickets for tonight. If I win the $13 million dollars I might be able to afford a house here. Saw one on Sunset Cliffs I wanted, a foreclosure for about $4 million. Went to the Coronado Brewing Company again for a couple of Goldens and Nachos. Probably my last visit this trip. Looking forward to the Wild Animal Park tomorrow.
Editor's Note: We sent CBR staffer Steve Sunu into the infected undead zone of Petco Park during Comic-Con International in San Diego. Steve managed to get us footage and a report of the event as he attempted to make his way from the infected area to evac in "The Walking Dead Escape." A chain link.
If you're at San Diego Comic-Con, and watching or reading The Walking Dead just isn't enough for you, there's a way to get even closer to the zombie carnage. On Friday night, a massive Walking Dead obstacle course, complete with hundreds of walkers, will open at San Diego's Petco Park, and we just c...

Carlos Quentin is mashing the ball in San Diego. Since coming off the DL in late May, Quentin has 7 HR in 110 AB. Team leader Chase Headley has 8 HR in almost three times the at-bats (311 AB). If Quentin can hit them out at spacious Petco Park, what could he do at Citi Field?
Jealous that ur moving to San Diego. Tied with Bay Area for best place to live! Petco Park is great place to watch BB. Be safe!
It was a great night at beautiful Petco Park. The Ultimate Cookout was one of the best pre-game events I've ever attended. We saluted living legends from the *** Leagues for the ninth consecutive year. 30,000 fans witnessed Skatin' Clayton knock in 3 runs and pitch us to a 9-5 come-from-behind victory. I saw Luis Marino & Silvia Dominguez Marino and their kids and friends; Cynthia Ybarra, Kim Boyd, Jeff Hall, Jaye Tarantino and husband Tiny, and Pip and her dad. Errrybody was there. And then a fantastic fireworks show celebrating the 30 (!) year anniversary of San Diego-based "Fast Times at Ridgemont High". The whole night was awesome!
"Kicking it old school" at Wrigley Field was pretty cool. but give me Petco Park in beautiful San Diego any day. wouldn't hurt to have a better Padre team too.
Ryan Braun is the only player to hit 3 homers in a game at San Diego's Petco Park. He is also the only player to steal 3 flea collars from a Petco store. Shame, shame...

On way home from Nats stadium. Great win for the Os Third stadium with kids this year. Camden Yards, Petco Park in San Diego and now Nats Park. Filling up my bucket. 27 to go.
Just got home from my son Christian's birthday extravaganza in San Diego...Started at Petco Park Angel's Victory over the Padres. We sat in the all you can eat section. Four hot dogs, two bags of peanuts and four diet cokes were my contribution. We spent the rest of the evening in the Gas Lamp district listening to music and telling the bands that it was Christian's birthday. To my surprise;instead of being embarrassed he turned into quite the HAM! This morning we strolled through the farmers market and then Seaport Village shoppin and snacking...What a great time spent with family members...Those who were unable to make it were missed
Petco Park *Presents* San Diego Padres vs. Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim ;Tix and Info; tonight at 7:05pm
Great day in Orange County and San Diego. Very impressed with Petco Park too.
So Nicole started her new promotion today and was telling me about her office. Her old job she could see the Chargers practicing outside her building, and in her new building, she can see the San Diego Convention Center AND Petco Park AND all of Downtown San Diego. I'm in El Cajon and see the back of Big Lots. Mayhaps I picked the wrong career, hm. Great job, Coleski, I'm so proud of you!
The Walking Dead will invade San Diego's Petco Park just in time for Comic-Con. 45 minute lunchtime run through Downtown San Diego, along the bay, the Embarcadaro, Seaport Village, over the Convention Center steps, to Petco Park, through the Gaslamp and down Broadway in clear 75 degree San Diego weather. I don't care how far it was, how many calories I burned or how fast I did it. It was amazing! Pics will follow.
It’s a sunny Tuesday afternoon at Petco Park in Downtown San Diego. The Padres are engaged in batting practice while the Washington Nationals patiently wait their turn to take the field. The dugout is calm as the players prepare for the game.
As we reported, Phish front man Trey Anastasio threw out the ceremonial first pitch at last night’s Padres/Rockies game in San Diego. Big Red was representing his new musical, Hands On A Hardbody, as members of the cast performed the National Anthem at Petco Park.
There might be no more sedated atmosphere in North American big-league sports than a Monday night game at Petco Park in San Diego.
Once again here we go from Petco Park in San Diego. Lets go Brew Crew!!
Ryan Braun first EVER player to hit 3 HR in one game at Petco Park in San Diego. Is 4-5, 6 RBI , 3 Hrs and a triple good? Hez back!
Game 2 in San Diego. Cole Hamels v Edinson Volquez. Phillies try to make it 13 in a row here at Petco Park.
A 9-1 start is a 9-1 start, but before Dodger fans start thinking about where they want to sit during the playoffs they should remember that they played seven games against San Diego and three against Pittsburgh, both of whom are likely to finish last in their divisions. The Dodgers also have played six games at Dodger Stadium and the other four at Petco Park, which might as well be home games...
starts today go padres (@ Petco Park for Los Angeles Dodgers vs. San Diego Padres w/ 33 others) [pic]:
It's all over down in San Diego, as the Los Angeles Dodgers beat the Padres on MLB Opening Day, at Petco Park. The score was 5-3. Clayton Kershaw, starting with a bad case of the flu, pitched 3 shut out innings and then came out. Lindblum pitched 2 scoreless innings in relief and got the win, followed by excellent relief pitching in between and closed by Javi Guerra with brilliant pitching in the 9th. Matt Kemp was 2-4 with a deep home run and drove in 3 runs. The team looked real good. Totals for the Dodgers to wins, 5 runs, 7 hits, 0 errors. The Dodgers' magic number is 161. GO BIG BLUE WRECKING CREW!
