Morning Links: Keiser arrested after fight Eric D. Williams SAN DIEGO -- Good morning. Teri Figueroa and Michael Gehlken of U-T San Diego report that San Diego Chargers linebacker Thomas Keiser was arrested on a misdemeanor battery charge at a restaurant bar in the Gaslamp Quarter, a popular area for nightclubs here in San Diego Sunday evening. According to the report, Keiser, 24, and another man had an altercation that turned into a fight. Keiser was arrested at about 11 p.m. on Sunday, hours after his team’s victory over Kansas City. Keiser is out on bail. Per the report, the man involved in the fight had minor injuries and refused treatment at the scene. “We’re aware of the issue involving Thomas,” the Chargers said in a statement. “We’ll continue to monitor the situation and let the legal process run its course.” Keiser's arrest is bad timing for the Chargers, as they try and build momentum for the playoffs. With the return of Melvin Ingram and Jarret Johnson, Keiser's playing time has b ...
Mike McCoy mum on DB competition By Eric D. Williams SAN DIEGO -- Derek Cox was the last player on the field at Friday’s practice for the San Diego Chargers, working on back pedaling and speed work. About 30 yards away, San Diego coach Mike McCoy talked with general manager Tom Telesco and team president Dean Spanos. That conversation likely included a decision on if Cox would make his 12th straight start of the season on Sunday against Cincinnati. However, for now McCoy will not make that decision public. “We have a very good idea of what we’re doing,” said McCoy, when asked if he had made a decision on who the starting cornerbacks will be after holding an open competition in the secondary this week. Cox followed suit in the locker room, telling reporters that he did not know what decision had been made. “I’m not sure, you’ll have to ask Coach [McCoy],” Cox said. Signed to a four-year, $20 million deal in the offseason, Cox has been benched in three of the past four games. Cox said he’s ...

Short-handed Chargers defense gets it done Posted by Darin Gantt The Chargers were facing one of the league’s best fourth-quarter quarterbacks, without perhaps their four best linebackers. So naturally, it was the Chargers defense that stole the show in last night’s 19-9 win over the Colts. “We knew we were shorthanded out there,” safety Eric Weddle said, via Michael Gehlken of U-T San Diego. “Those guys stepped up, . . . Geez, they just played hard.” The Chargers were playing without starters Jarrett Johnson (hamstring) and Donald Butler (groin), in addition to the guys they knew wouldn’t be available (Dwight Freeney on IR and Melvin Ingram on the PUP list). That forced guys such as Andrew Gachkar and Tourek Williams into the starting lineup. So naturally, defensive coordinator John Pagano dialed up enough pressure to keep his brother’s team on its heels all night. “I thought he was aggressive when he needed to be aggressive,” Johnson said of Pagano and the defense he watched. “I th ...
Chargers' Dwight Freeney, Malcom Floyd out for year... The San Diego Chargers will play the rest of the season without two key starters. Seven-time Pro Bowl pass rusher Dwight Freeney will be placed on injured reserve after undergoing surgery to repair his torn quadriceps, a source briefed on his injury told NFL Media Insider Ian Rapoport on Tuesday. U-T San Diego first reported the news. The impact of Freeney's loss can't be overstated. The potential Hall of Famer was off to his best start in years. He toyed with Houston Texans All-Pro left tackle Duane Brown in the season opener and was second only to Chiefs outside linebacker Justin Houston in Pro Football Focus' pass-rushing metrics through four games. Already playing without 2012 first-round draft pick Melvin Ingram, the Chargers don't have another proven edge rusher on their roster. As if Freeney's injury isn't devastating enough, the Bolts will also have to do without Malcom Floyd. A source who has spoken to Floyd tells Rapoport that the wide recei ...
San Diego Chargers: 5 Players Whose Stock Is on the Rise After OTAs -- Ann BY ALEX RAMIREZ With OTAs almost over, not a lot of news has come out of San Diego. This isn't a surprise with Manti Te'o being sheltered from the media. After the horrific ACL injury to Melvin Ingram, the San Diego Chargers are looking for his replacement. Defensive End Dwight Freeney has been signed, but has not yet arrived to OTAs for personal reasons. Mike McCoy and his team want to put Ingram's injury behind them and prepare for the season. According to Chargers.com, the team is "off to a good start." McCoy is impressed with the hard work coming from the drills. He also loves the way the players have handled the change to a new system. Philip Rivers Most news about the San Diego Chargers usually involves Philip Rivers. The loudmouth quarterback is ready for Ken Whisenhunt, new offensive coordinator, and Mike McCoy's new offense. For a guy who WANTED Peyton Manning in the same division for competition, learning a new system is ...

*** u Darren Mcfadden! Lose money fantasy football H2H week one by half a point. Needed five more yards. But Chargers win with zero running game. Very impressive way to start the season. On behalf of San Diego, glad to have Melvin Ingram, Kendall Reyes, and Jarret Johnson now on our team. :)
Dear EA Sports, specifically the Madden 13 developers: The inability to edit players in Franchise mode, aka "coach" in connected careers, really needs to be brought back. I don't want to be able to cheat and make everyone 99 overall or edit physical attributes or things like that, but as with madden 12, the ability to switch people's positions is much desired and is a GLARING omission on the part of the developers this year. Example, I'm a San Diego fan and want to switch to a 4-3 defense, but I am not allowed to make Luis Castillo or corey liuget DTs or change Shaun Phillips and Melvin Ingram to DE. Or when drafting players along the offensive line and having the ability to change their position to match my needs, or moving a slower, older corner to safety ala Ronde Barber or Charles Woodson. This is an integral part of running a franchise and projecting where players will be the best fit. You say that this edition will be more realistic, yet we can't ask players to play a new position? Chuck Pagano in I ...
What does San Diego have to offer? Let's see...my birthplace, Switchfoot, nice weather...and most importantly, Chargers football! I won't get too excited though, Norv is still the coach, but you never know. Some good additions this year like Eddie Royal, Robert Meachem, and perhaps a rookie (Melvin Ingram) that can make an immediate impact. But we'll see, knowing a Norv coached team it will likely be another 8-8 season and miss the playoffs.
I'm watching the Green Bay and San Diego preseason replay. I'm gonna go out on a limb here and say Melvin Ingram from South Carolina will be the defensive rookie of the year! Dude looked unstoppable against Green Bay's starters! Jarett Lee looked really good through out the game too!
LaBoy was odd man out in San Diego: The Chargers selected South Carolina's Melvin Ingram with the No. 18 pick in...
It's signing day in San Diego. On the heels of the news that second-round pick Kendall Reyes has signed his rookie contract, the Chargers have announced that first-round pick Melvin Ingram has also agreed to a deal. It's the standard four-year deal with a team option for a fifth year.
God gave us Melvin Ingram and just as soon he took the great Junior Seau from us. What a great person and athlete to look up to as a kid in San Diego.
Folks, San Diego is killing this draft. It is just slaying it. A trio of pass-rusher Melvin Ingram (No. 18), defensive lineman Kendall Reyes (No. 49) and Brandon Taylor (No. 73) is a wicked group to bring into one defense. All three players were taken later than projected and could all make immediate impacts. Major kudos to San Diego for having a strong plan.
Alshon Jeffery was just picked in the second round and 45th overall of the NFL Draft by the Chicago Bears. This marks the first ever that USC has had 3 picks go in the first 45 selected. Congratulations to Stephon Gilmore to Buffalo, to Melvin Ingram to San Diego and now Alshon Jeffery to Chicago.
Wish Carolina had picked up ingram ; Gilmore , get your heavy clothes - Buffalo is cold ! Noticed they look at Melvin as a linebacker at next level - 6' 1" is too short for Defensive End - seems tall to me - lol !! Any guesses where A , Jeffrey will go ? Alot of WR gone already 10. Buffalo, Stephon Gilmore, db, South Carolina. 18. San Diego, Melvin Ingram, lb, South Carolina.
San Diego selected South Carolina DE/LB Melvin Ingram. Chargers brought in veteran OLB Jarret Johnson in the off-seaso…
